Prof. Beard is awesome... She's a really easy going and understanding teacher. Couldn't ask for a better mktg 301 teacher... Definitely recommend taking a class from her is you're into marketing...
she is awsome. very clear on her lectures knows how to make the class fun and teaches very well. i hope i can take the rest of my marketing classes with her!!!
Her tests have lots of memorization straight from the textbook, but the group projects are graded fairly and accurately. I thought I hated marketing, but I don't- I only mildly dislike it now.
Prof. Beard is an instructor that truly cares about her students. She is funny and charismatic, and she makes class really fun to go to. I highly recommend her!
Fun class, makes you really think about how marketing is involved in everday life. She is a good teacher with clear slides for lecture, but you do have to read/memorize points from the book to do well on exam. She bases her short answer part of exam off her lecture notes, and multiple choice off of the textbook.
The first day, she came in hugging all her "favored" students who evidently traveled with her to other countries. I wondered from day one if not being part of this "group" would affect my grade in the end. Although I earned very high scores on everything, my grade sure didn't reflect it in the end. Chooses favorites. Not at all fair.
Very charismatic, which the students seem to like, but she definitely picks favorites.
If you take her class, you will be busy with taking notes because it's important for exam. Even if you do good on exams, your grade is not guaranteed. It depends on if she likes you or not. She chooses favorites. Totally unfair class.
Tests were straight mass memorization of lists and somewhat pointless. Very cool teacher but doesn't put her notes online and can be very deceiving. Certainly not my favorite class due to the amount of memorizing and group project work.
As long as you attend class and listen and take notes, you'll do great. And attending class shouldn't be a problem because she is not a boring teacher. Presentation grades don't matter as much, because almost everyone will get the same grades on presentations. Make sure to do well on all the exams because that will determine most of your grade.
Leta is a very engaging professor that loves marketing. This class is a very broad survey of marketing but interesting. MC questions on exams are straight memorization from the book and short answers are from lecture. Must attend class for lecture notes. 2 group projects/presentations that are graded very reasonably. Also, participate!
Great professor! I highly recommend trying to get her. She made the class extremely interesting. Definitely one of the best courses I have taken at UW.
worst professor ever. She does teach you anything.
Shoot me now, this class is worthless. If you think memorization and a dumb group project are preparing you for anything.. you are most likely wrong. She teaches nothing useful, unless you like memorizing buzzwords, made up by idiot-savant marketing "experts".
For the losers who will end up making 30K/year ... this is your time to shine! ... She loves the idiots. If you are either successful or smart, I feel sorry for you here.
Leta is a great professor. Use the multimedia marketing lab to do well on quizzes... and definitely spend sometime on the mktg plan. She makes class interesting, always talking about current events and what not. Loved her class... and she loves teaching it!
One of the best classes I have ever taken at UW! She gives really practical and useful advice for business majors and not just those going into marketing. She also gets some great guest speakers!
This is one of the best classes I have taken at UW. Leta makes the class very engaging and fun. You learn a lot from lecture but it's extremely important to read if you want to do well on exams.
She is a great marketing professor and is always available to offer extra help. She brings in a lot of fantastic guest speakers as well! Highly recommend Leta.
Wonderful professor! I recommend her to anyone!
She is a great professor. If you want to do well on Concept Checks, you must attend class as alot of test questions come from her lectures. You better like taking notes. She does not share her PowerPoint slides. Definitions on tests come mostly from the book. For me peronally, I miss alot of the content of her lectures when I have to take notes.
Material is very straightforward, lots of in-class activities, great examples of concepts. Exams are MC w/ short answer taken from lecture. Leta is hilarious; easy to get a good grade. I got a 3.7 with not too much work!
Leta is a really nice lady. She's pretty funny and tries her best to keep the class engaged with lots of activities. Personally, I thought the class was too big for a lot of the activities to work though. Tests had more info from the textbook than I like. Class definitely wasn't the freebie I thought it would be.
Twenty years from now I won't remember anything I learned from IBUS 300 or my grade (which was bad). What I will remember is that Leta is a fun, friendly, and engaging person who will have a lasting impression on me due to her unique teaching style and personality. Hands on activities, fun powerpoint slides, and a cool trade fair. Leta is a boss
Got a 4.0, so this isn't some bad student's whining. Avoid this class if you can until another prof starts teaching it. Felt like I was being brainwashed. For an international business class, it was oddly Amerocentric; couldn't choose a non-American company for the final project. Lectured too fast, and tests had many pointless questions.
Leta Beard is an awesome professor. This isn't necessarily the most challenging or academic class , but her passion and enthusiasm for marketing really shine through on a daily basis making the class interesting and engaging. I learned a lot about marketing, as well as business and general, and would highly recommend taking MKTG 301 with Leta
The lectures are surprisingly not boring when the content is dull. Exams have all sorts of random multiple choice questions which are pretty useless. A prerequisite for this course should include the ability to regurgitate powerpoint slides because the short questions are really specific.
This class is a joke. People say she's a good/funny person but NOT a good teacher. She just reads her PowerPoint slides FAST (you won't be able to write notes). She goes off topic into her own life experiences. Her tests are unclear and wording is tricky- especially short answer. 2 midterms, 1 final, a few time consuming group projects
This class is a total joke. Just memorize the whole textbook for the exams. Leta is a nice person but the class is horrible.
Her classes are like story time. You would learn more from reading the book and looking at her slides. Midterm MCQs are based on the book and open ended questions are very specific to her slides.
Leta is very nice and tries hard to make her class interesting and fun. That said, she goes over test material extremely quickly and can be somewhat vague and confusing. Going to quiz section really helped me understand the material better.
Leta has been one my favorite professors at UW. Her TA's (shout out to Sam) are so helpful! The tests are pretty much memorization but after a test I realize how much I actually know from her class and it's a lot of important content. Read the book & use your laptop for notes (she gives slides 4 u to fill in). Don't underestimate the amt 2 memorize
Seems like she doesn't know the material that well because she flies thru the important stuff in lecture. My TA (Sam) ended up teaching us the most important concepts and preparing for the exams. If there wasn't a quiz section, I don't think Leta would be capable of teaching this class. That being said, its relatively easy and graded on a curve.
The class itself was ok, because it was basically her telling irrelevant stories the whole time. But then, she flies through the important content we will get tested on without any explanation. Her notes online are incomplete and super unhelpful. Her TA does everything for her. Tests can be tough and unlike anything we discussed in class.
I absolutely LOVED Leta! The class in itself was already interesting, but she made it so much better! Her lectures are awesome: crystal clear but not boring at all! I would definitely take another one of her classes if she ever teaches them. 100% recommend!
Leta will love you if you talk in class or visit her. Otherwise, fend for yourself. Read the book and STUDY THE LECTURE/QUIZ SECTION SLIDES. You'll get most of the points if you focus on her slides even though the book has way more info and appears in MC questions. Lecture consists of stories and pointless activities she thinks are fun and helpful
Leta is a very nice woman but the material itself is very dry and little is learned by the end. The tests are very odd and ask the most random questions that check attendance. They are full of obscure questions like "What did we discuss in this lecture" or "What was this class activity about?" The exams hardly check your grasp on the material.
Learn the Vocabulary. Get a good team for the group project. Exams are multiple choice with 3 or 4 short answers. Only way you won't pass this class is if you don't listen. Relatively easy class. Biggest deal is the Country Report. Start early and do a good job. Focus on the country not the business. Trade Fair 5 min oral presentation on country.
The class materials is not tough itself but it is hard to learn when she does not cover any of the book materials. All you do in lecture is basically copy down her powerpoint slides and do lame activities. You will also write an about an extremely lengthy paper (20+ pages) on a country. DO NOT LOOK DOWN ON HER TESTS! HARD +Avoid her at all cost !
Leta's class was fun, but her exams were not. Don't overestimate how much you're actually learning during class. Go to class for participation, but make sure you go to quiz section too. Be careful who you choose for partners because the paper is long and you need people to stay on their game.
Her lectures are mostly just her telling pointless stories, then rushing through the slides in the last 15 min. The slides really don't have much content on them either. The book actually discusses a lot of interesting stuff, but she doesn't really talk about these things. You could tell that her TA Brian knew so much more than her on the subjects.
Absolutely loved Leta's class. She gives so many in class activities and everyone can participate in lively discussions. Unfortunately you have to do a super detailed group project. Do make sure you get a good team though, or else you will fail miserably.
Favorite teacher and class. Leta was so kind and outgoing. Made the 1 1/2 lecture fun and go by fast. The course content was relevant. There were also in class activities which made things interesting. Group project wasn't too bad. Very long 16 paper though. Trade fair was easy and fun too.
Professor Beard is super funny and engaging! I will say that her exams are pretty brutal, especially for a MKTG course. The tradeshow project is a blast and you do learn alot! Keep up with the readings throughout the quarter or you will do very poorly on the exams.
A lot of the work in the class felt like busy work, and we would spend a lot of time in class just sharing stories about something that barely related. She goes pretty fast over the actual test material, because we spent too much time on discussions. Get a good group and don't wait until the last minute on the paper.
Leta has a 10/10 personality and I love her as a person, but she is a pretty terrible lecturer. She speeds through her lectures and doesn't post her completed slides online afterward. Her tests are completely based off her lecture slides and a bit off the readings. She's an easy grader on the group projects. Get on her good side, it'll help.
Leta is an amazing person, who really cares about her students. She is so passionate about marketing, the material doesn't always get covered which poses a bit of an issue. The tests are MC and short answer, where the short answer can be a hit or miss. I never read textbooks, but you must for this class or else you won't pass. Review the slides!!
Leta is one of the sweetest ladies you could ever imagine meeting. Her lectures are a bit rushed and not maybe the best, but her heart is what matters. The content is relevant, but the class becomes more of story time than lecture. Fortunately, this fits the class structure well.
Leta is an amazing professor! Super knowledgeable about marketing and passionate too. The tests are straightforward with an even mixture of lecture and book so come to class and read the book! Also I've never had so much fun with a group project before!! Great class and great professor I would definitely recommend .
She's the sweetest! Brought candy for us all on the final (you could either get a Smarties or DumDum - depending on how well you thought you did). Lectures are interesting but don't really give you all you need for the tests (qz section and textbook are key). Also - trade fair... group 16-18 pg essay and poster presentation. Really fun overall!
She spends a lot of the lecture time talking about her experiences. While it might be interesting, it doesn't help with the course.
Leta is like the cool aunt you've always wanted. Never have I felt so happy to see a professor come class time. She is very sociable and encouraging. Much of the course content is from the textbook and exams are easy so long as you stay on top of the readings. Group projects are really fun and you'll learn a lot from them! WE LOVE LETA.
I wish there was more of a balance between actual course material and anecdotes during class. Her lectures don't actually help you prepare for the tests, even though they are entertaining. I'd say 80% of the test was based off of textbook reading, 20% lecture. group projects are an easy A if you try.
Very disorganized and messy and rushed lectures. Nice prof but pretty confusing on what you're going to be tested on. Didn't even respond to email about the final group project so my group never knew what we did wrong. Easy class but very frustrating and unclear that can bring your grade down
Very unstructured use of class time, with random amounts of time being devoted to lecture. She gives you powerpoints slides with blanks to fill in. Coming to class is very important as these powerpoints can be used in place of reading the book for exam studying. The group projects take quite a bit of time, but she grades everyone very well on it
Lectures are pretty important she uses lectures more than the book. Important to read the textbook too. The class is really engaging if you choose to participate, she really cares about the class and the topic and it shows.
Leta really cares about the class and students and has lots of international experience. The group project is super extensive but you'll be graded well for everything if you give it proper effort. Tests aren't that hard, just read the textbook. Participate! A really interesting discussion-based class.
Leta is a great professor who is definitely more of a friend than a professor. She was entertaining and made the class enjoyable to be in. The group project is heavily weighted, so pick your group members wisely. I did minimal work outside of class, and still received a decent grade.
Leta's class was just not fun. It baffles me how much she talks about irrelevant topics that we aren't tested on, in addition to the futile in-class exercises. Spending an hour trading cards? Yeah. Read the textbook to get a good grade, which by the way she lectures like 30% of the chapter, the rest is up to you. Take this class with someone else.
Leta is a really warm and nice person. If you participate in class, she will really like you and help as much as possible. I highly recommend speaking in class if you want a good grade.
Her lecture is a bunch of fillers. Often requires a student to participate more than is required. At times, the test question doesn't come from in-class material.
Get ready to do a lot of busy work and too many useless collaborative activities. It's an easy class but the lectures feel like a waste of time and you basically just get tested on how well you read the textbook. There aren't really other options for professors though so get ready to get gold star stickers on your name tag in a "college" course.
Lectures were pointless. She doesn't talk about anything from the textbook (but that's what's on the test). Ex: we spent an entire hour of class playing a game where we guess which product is counterfeit and which is real. This was for the unit on GLOBAL CORRUPTION. Exercises like this felt useless. Not convinced she even knows the book material.
Leta is very nice and wants her students to succeed! However, in lecture we don't get taught much, it's all very reliant on the textbook. Everything assigned is fair game on the tests. Something may be mentioned for a few seconds, and then it ends up on the exam as a short-answer! Also the group report is like 16-18 pages, so be prepared for that.
I felt like all of my time spent in class was wasted. We already have to spend hours upon hours of reading the textbook, just for the test to have NOTHING from the textbook or the class in general. The lectures were insanely boring and basically just listening to her talk with other students for 2 hours straight.
All I learn from this class is 90% from the textbook and 10% from the Prof. Lectures are extremely boring & Leta literally reads off the slides . Not confident about her knowledge on International Business at all. The class wasn't hard (just read the textbook, take notes, know the materials in the lecture slides well) but it sucked.
The class discussions are usually filled with; what news article did you bring to class or pointless topics that are irrelevant. As for the quizzes, the questions are very specific and can be on something she briefly mentioned in the class. Additionally, the group project (country analysis) was not terrible as long as you're in a good group.
I was so taken with Leta during Marketing Concepts that I took her for International Business as well. Admittedly, these classes felt like 200 level material, and the course work was not very difficult. She is an excellent professor, however, and always brought a smile to my face. For her exams, make a "key terms" Quizlet. You're welcome.
Her live zoom session discussions were engaging, make sure you participate! Her recorded 20 min-is lectures were boring, I don't like when teachers lecture from slides clearly created by the publishers. The biggest thing is the big group project at the end, start that early!
Leta is one of the worst professors I've had at Foster. Her pre-recorded videos are dry and for you to do well in exams, just read the textbooks. Barely learned anything from the Professor and found her in-class lecture (mostly just discussion) a waste of time.
Leta is honestly so nice, she is understanding and super friendly, making her class very enjoyable. Her live lectures are just discussions, she has pre recorded lectures and you have to read the book to pass the quizzes! No midterm or final, just weekly quizzes and a final project, would definitely recommend taking this class with her!!
Leta's really nice and this class wasn't that bad! Majority of grade is the group project (not that hard) and weekly quizzes. quizzes are based on the pre-recorded lectures and textbook. if u have notes on these, u r chilling. questions include stuff from live lectures like shared articles/guest speakers. if u dont like talking alot, you'll do fine
I was wary of taking IBUS with Leta this quarter but I turned out to very much enjoy it! Leta is very sweet and caring and values participation, even if it's sporadic. The group project is manageable and kind of fun. As for the quizzes, just read and take notes on the textbook and you'll do fine, they were easy.
Leta is super nice and her lectures are very engaging and participation based. Read the textbook thoroughly before tests and your grade will be fine! Lectures go by quick and are really interesting. All in all a good person and professor
Leta's class is one of the fun core classes. She rewards the students that put in effort, and the content in the class is relevant and thoughtful. She appreciates positive, thoughtful, creative students. If you care, you'll do very well in this class. The concept checks (exams) are very important-- study the book but more importantly the lectures!
Leta is a bundle of sunshine. While the activities are sometimes more fun than educational, she gives you a reason to show up and engage with the content. To study, just read the textbook and look at lecture notes and you will be more than fine. She's a fairly lenient grader for assignments, just show effort and have fun.
Won't take her again. She only puts in exams in the gradebook. Other projects and assignments she gave us that were worth so many points are still not graded in canvas and the quarter has been over for a month. Her test questions are so random. Things we didn't even discuss in class and you can only find the answers if you dig in the textbook.
This course is entirely textbook base, and the textbook is very, very long. She teaches nothing in the class, and all the quizzes are based on the textbook. Occasionally, there will be some questions regarding the lecture, but it's a tiny point. DON'T TAKE IT! If the course just reads the textbook, why am I here wasting my money going to a college?
This class has so much potential and could actually be interesting but Leta makes it the exact opposite. Exams are basically based off the textbook. She barely teaches, let alone actually prepares us for exams. Instead uses time to do pointless activities and has students do most of the talking. Shows bias towards students too.
This was, by a looooong shot, the funnest class I've taken at UW. You have to do the reading to do well on the exam, but if you go open-minded and just show effort, you'll do well. Make sure you understand all concepts before going into the exam, make the most out of your projects and just have fun. It'll go by crazy fast!
I'm currently trying to take the Foster Minor as a comm major and this was the best class I've taken so far in the curriculum. Leta has a class at the end which teaches you how to set up your LinkedIn and prep for interviews, and it was by far the most useful course material I have encountered so far.
Class is just a class discussion about marketing in the real world. Not worth the effort especially if we are being graded on content, not what we find on twitter. Quizzes are deeply based on textbook reading, get ready to read to learn anything. There is a group project.
Leta is a great person, super friendly, good lecturer. However, the tests are heavy on textbook readings (which I gave up on after week 2) and in-class participation is really important. Multiple group projects and a "final" (3rd exam). Overall mid class. I wouldn't mind taking another class with her but it wasn't like... the best class ever.
quizzes heavily relied on reading, and the design of the entire course revolves around forcing everyone to participate in live session, which is just a group discussion. Thus, no access to those slides for live sessions and no recordings.Y? The only way to review is through the reading, available slides and short videos are useless for the project.
Leta was great! I absolutely loved this class, it prepared us really well for future interviews and networking. Our big assignments are all in groups so make sure you know people going into the class (it's hard since it's online). Other than that I learned a lot and we only had a few assignments a week so it was super easy to manage!
Best Foster Professor. Participate and study, you will do well. Fun activities during class.
Leta is a great professor, and I found the class interesting. The tests were primarily textbook based, and her lectures strived to be different from the textbook. Activities were fun but did not relate to the test curriculum. Make sure you read and pay close attention to her slides because the most smallest things will be on the test.
Great person and professor. Fun activities throughout the entire quarter. Got to know every student and tried to get everyone to participate and have fun during class. Textbook is needed to do well on exams.
One of my favorite Foster professors! She is so caring and passionate about international business. I loved how interactive the class was, although the exams were a bit unpredictable. Just make sure to study the textbook, and you'll do well. She is also not a tough grader for projects at all. I would highly recommend taking a class with Leta!
The lectures were absolutely useless, most of it was just the professor trying to get people to answer questions in class and nothing was really taught. Be ready to read as the only thing you can do to learn in this class is read the textbook word for word.
Great professor, exams are very focused on textbook material and blank spots on the slides that she goes over in class. If you participate and show up, you will be rewarded. Makes a conscious effort to make every class engaging and fun with an activity.
I get why people like her, but she wasn't up my alley. She has some interesting anecdotes, but overall the class was very boring. The lecture slides themselves provide better, clearer information than what she is actually saying in class. Look up Quizlets for each exam, like "IBUS 300 Exam 2 Quizlet" on Google, the 200 card ones are super helpful!
Leta is nice. I really like our in-class engagement and discussion although it may not be relevant to real-life work. Her test will throw you off so my recommendation is to actually read her text book and slides thoroughly before exams. Participation also matters a lot
This class was boring and a waste of time. The content learnt is not useful for professional career. Also, be aware this professor wrongly accuses students without clear evidence.
Honestly, love the class and the professor. The exams and group projects are well spread out. You need to do the reading but there is only 3 exams in the entire class and they are doable if you put minimal effort. It was so cool learning about other countries and doing the Trade fair. She gives out rewards and participation points if you're active!
Leta doesn't teach anything in this class. Everything is in the textbook. She just reads the slides which have no context. Everything is just trivia and you have to compete to answer questions. This class is a waste of time and you're better off self-studying than coming to class for notes
Leta tries to make the class interesting with her lectures. A lot of the class participation was trivia-based. The only thing I didn't like was that you had to know every little detail from the lecture and the textbook. The exams focus on critical thinking and some memorization. Focus on understanding definitions and memorizing details.
Teaches it like a kindergarten class, gives out gold stars to put on your name tag when you raise your hand and answer a question like a good boy. She intentionally leaves out key information from the slides she posts on canvas to encourage you to come to class. The lectures were boring and added nothing to the material in the textbook. Avoid.
Leta is sweet and has many personal stories that are super interesting. My biggest piece of advice is to take notes on EVERYTHING, including what she says but doesn't show on slides in class. Take notes on activities and presentations from students too because it will all be on the exam. Read the textbook and pay attention to minor details for exam
Leta is old school who thinks her class is so important and treats everyone like children. I feel like I'm wasting time and money to sit in this class but then she does everything in her power to make you come to class: classes are not recorded, she leaves blanks on slides that's only shown in lectures.
Great professor who cares a lot about her students. Participation matters a lot so make sure you show up to class and participate. Other than that just pay attention and use study guides for the tests and the class is very doable
Honestly, the class is what you make out of it. During lectures, fill in the blanks on the slides, they will never be posted complete but always be tested. if you study that and the vocab words of the chapters, you are set to do well on the exams. The lectures can be boring but attendance is mandatory so show up and contribute to the conversation.
Rly easy class, 3 tests total but you can just use quizlets found online and your notes from the slides in lecture to study, it's curved so no big deal. She's chill, lectures can be a lil boring but overall she's a rly rly nice person, country analysis report isn't hard if you have a good group, I never stress about this class, W overall
She censors her presentation slides and makes attendance mandatory through Pollev. Honestly, kinda a boring class. I'm sure she's fine outside the classroom.
Professor Leta is chill but the class requires solid effort. Lectures can be dry, so use Unstuck AI alongside the textbook to stay on top of the details. Participation matters - just show up and contribute.
Leta was really nice but her lectures were not very useful for the content that we were tested on. However, you have to go to class in order to get lecture material because she does not record them. The class is based on group projects and 3 concept checks. I personally did not read the assigned text but it would be helpful for concept checks.
Kind person and good professor. Very passionate about international business and her students. Reading is relevant, but I found concept checks are majority class content. Attendance mandatory to score well on exams. Group projects are pretty fun but make sure you like your initial group as they will most likely also be your group for bigger project
super kind and a good teacher
Taking her marketing class rn, got mad at my group for doing work from the book that we haven't covered in class yet, but the content was in the book, and gave us a 0 for it when the whole class curriculum is based on the book anyway. She's hard to please if you don't do every single little thing she wants exactly how she wants it when she wants it
Leta was very kind and passionate about ibus. Attendance is taken through pollev and in person activities so you can't really miss class. Grading criteria is not clear at times, and 3 exams are very tricky but not cumulative. Group projects are fine but make sure you choose a good group!
So kind and passionate about teaching. Attendance is mandatory and she made all the lectures very engaging and interesting. Had a lot of fun in this class and thought the group project was very rewarding. Great Prof and great class!
Leta is a wonderful professor and knows her stuff! Class is interactive and allows opportunity to meet students and make groups. Talk to Leta outside of class; she wants to help all of her students succeed both academically and in their careers!!
Very sweet professor, make sure to attend lectures, as this is where most learning happens. But overall, just do the reading to prep for the exams, and Leta provides all the resources to succeed as she cares for all her students greatly. Highly recommend taking her if possible!
Leta is a wonderful, kind professor who works hard to help her students both in and outside the classroom. She ensures the lecture is fun and engaging. Leta responds quickly to student questions and genuinely cares about their success in her class.
