Leta wasn't terrible, but I would not take a class from her again. It seemed she cared more about seeing students work to exhaustion than learn and succeed. Asking questions seemed to irritate her. One student asked for a midterm outline and she replied "This is a classic university test, where you'll cram and cry and stress and just pray you pass"
If you have technical difficulties during a presentation and take longer than two minutes to fix she will automatically -20% off your grade. She assigned 2 books to be read and multiple readings every week along with them. Lost 40% on an assignment for using the wrong font. If I could rate zero I would.
This class sucked
The absolute worst class that I've ever taken. Run, don't walk to drop this class before the required time for your full deposit. I am highly regretting not doing the same!
This class is physically and mentally draining. All you are given is links to PDFs; multiple chapters a week. You then answer forums weekly on the chapters but it is incredibly hard to get a high grade. We were instructed not to contact TAs and Prof for help on our forums, and there is absolutely no guidance on what to study for midterm/final. Drop
Wouldn't recommend this prof to anyone. The weekly readings are extremely dry and grading is a nightmare. The TAs were advised by the prof to not give grades over 60% and grading was not justified (even when questioned). Instructions were vague making assignments extremely hard to grasp. If you enjoy INDG studies, don't take the class. It ruins it.
This has been an awful class. The level of expectation and prior knowledge for a 100 level class and how it does not take into consideration those who are knew to Canada or studying abroad is concerning. Prof expects a level of knowledge and critical thinking about issues that many people (in a very large, online class) have no prior knowledge of.
This professor is unclear in expectations in the syllabus. She uses a variety of TA's and they grade differently and post grades at different times allowing some students the advantage of reflecting prior to the next forum post. When approached for support she is not helpful. I would never take another class from this prof.
If you have question about your grading, you are given zero feedback on your assignments.
Prof uses 5 TAs to mark. This wouldn't be so bad except each TA marks differently. Some mark very hard while others mark easy. The readings are SO long. The tests have random questions that you read maybe once. If you have questions about your assignment, you will not get any feedback. Prof will not respond to emails until like 4 days later. Brutal
As someone who struggles with adhd reading 100s of pages is impossible. Not much support from her either. Has 5 TAs mark for her, (bless their souls) she uses prototrack which itself is a joke ... the exam and syllabus had several marks and if you're under or over her word count she will deduct you as well. I could go on and on
If you like getting feedback on your assignments, this course is not for you. There is no feedback given on the forum posts, so you have no idea why you ended up with the grade you got. The readings are long and boring. Midterm questions were confusing and often had grammatical errors that made them harder to understand. Don't take INDG with her.
No communication and is very rude when you ask questions.
Brutal professor if you can even call her that. Does not respond to emails and lets her TA's do all the work for her. Tells students to focus on module objectives on midterms but puts in questions that have nothing to do with either modules or the course at all. Horrible professor! Absolute garbage!
This Prof's midterm was written worse than my younger sister's first attempt at an essay. With at least 1 grammatical error for every question, many questions became outright illegible, taking the form of loosely connected sentence fragments.
Midterm questions were a joke. They had literal grammatical errors. The midterm was worth 30% of your final grade. You have to write forum posts every week that only makeup 4% of your grade. There is so much reading, it's horrible. Take INDG with literally anyone else!! Quickly drop this class before the 100% refund period is over, trust me.
This class is beyond frustrating. Throughout all the materials, countless spelling mistakes make the content's readability even more difficult. The materials are often provided sideways, and the photocopying of the materials was done poorly. The midterm contained things not yet in the content. Also, the TAs were told to grade poorly on all forums.
Leta is an average prof. You have to read 30-50 pages a week and write a 250 word forum post about the reading, which is reasonable for a 100-level class. The weekly summary is usually enough to write the forum. Marking isn't that harsh (60s are normal at the UofR). She responded quickly to the emails I sent her. The midterm had grammatical errors.
She can be quite rude and pushes students to the side, not seeming to care much about them or how they do in the class. Her exams are also incredibly messy and no amount of studying can prepare you for them, content on exams is near impossible to find in weekly assignments and readings.
Leta has been dislike bombed by so many students on here due to her interns marking being somewhat difficult. Leta herself isn't so bad, my only complaint is about her midterm which I found was very random and you couldn't really study for. If you can write at all, and can put up with little annoying things sometimes, you will pass easily
The class was organized well and the readings were pretty clear as well. The downsides was the exams, which were on seemingly obscure points rather than the ideas of the class, and the writing submissions, as the grading criteria wasn't clear until halfway through the course. There was also a mass email criticizing students for negative reviews.
The material is straightforward, but she wants you to do a lot of reading (but she goes through the assigned readings in lectures anyway) Descriptions of her assignments are vague, but if you clarify what she wants, you'll do fine. Attend lectures and put in the work, it's not as hard as it seems.
Ratemyprof is for students not profs, 99% of profs do not care what is said on here. You automatically look unprofessional by acknowledging RMP like its hatred and not valid criticism
I am currently in tears writing this. Her tests were impossible to study for. I felt like I was guessing on every question and I heavily studied the course material prior to taking them. Just pure trivia exams. 0 comprehension and long answer questions which makes no sense because most of the course work was forum posts answering a question.
This class was difficult for 100 level, but not impossible. The weekly forum post assignments needed better clarification. I reached out to the TA but found their response baffling. I was going to reach out to Dr. Kingfisher, but the (unfair) campaign against her had already started so I left her alone. Final was clearly laid out in an email.
Horrible professor. Very difficult for a 100 level introduction class. Lots of reading and most of the provided readings are posted upside-down and you have to download the pdfs and flip them. Scanned pdfs are difficult to read and not properly scanned. The professor uses TA's to grade and they all grade differently. Dont recommend this instructor
Class made up of forum posts questions were loosely tied to the readings. Exams were poorly written the questions based on information that was of little importance to the information learned. The exams did not give students the opportunity to reflect what was learned. Inconsistency in making and poor communication from prof. Interesting info.
Impossible to get a grade above 70% on assignments. Absolutely no feedback. Tests are brutally difficult. Prof. is not available and tells students not to contact her at all. Questions were never answered.
Zero consistency when grading, my grades where all over the place even though I felt all my assignments were similar in quality. The reading she gave were very uninteresting, and the questions asked after the readings had nothing to do with the readings. The midterm and the final were full of questions that had zero significance in the class.
avoid at all costs!! her TA's mark poorly and provide no feedback even when asked. too much reading and harsh marking for a 100 level class.
Expect to read!!!!! The marking system with this class is just unfair at this point. As someone who gets decent grades, I can assure you that this class is tough. The feedback I've been given has been the same for others in the class. It's almost like they "copy and paste" you're feedback which doesn't help me improve at all. Would not recommend.
Probably the least enjoyable class and professor I've gotten in my time at university so far. She marks as if the essays were to be written at a 300/400 level and expects memorization for all years of historical events, which is an outdated and ineffective way of teaching. Avoid this class if you have any choice at all.
She is honestly inconsiderate, very rude and doesn't care much about her students. Her exams are not related to her test you'll be guess 90% of the time. She doesn't give study guides but expects you to know everything including random indigenous names and year. Avoid at all costs please. Don't say I didn't warn you.
I struggle with ADHD, so the intense amount of reading often goes over my head and readings are the only thing she uses to teach (plus 2-minute videos that are often irrelevant). We are taught content that I would expect from a 300 or 400 level class, and assignments are marked fairly strict. Did okay on the midterm, but is mostly obscure facts.
If I didn't need this class I probably would have dropped it in the first week. She gets TAs to mark for her and they all mark so differently and never provide feedback. The midterm had absolutely nothing to do with the readings and despite studying for hours I got a sub-par mark. Save yourself
Leta's online course is terrible and I have not learned 1 thing this entire semester. The TA that I had was awful and the assignments did not relate to the readings whatsoever. Find a different course to take and do not make the same mistakes that I have.
Professor and TA were nice enough, but midterm and final contained both unclear and biased questions, also with mention of materials not used in the course. Grading was pretty much set between 50-70% no matter the level of effort into assignments. Hardest 100 level course I've ever taken, with way too many irrelevant readings.
tells us not to contact her yet TAs unresponsive and unhelpful. no outline for midterm, subpar outline for final, questions on both exams unclear or specific random trivia, pure guesswork. lots of assignments, sucked up all my time. take this class for a challenge if you want to learn how to do some hardcore studying.
The professor isn't all bad. She will give help when asked but it will be short and brief. Although, the readings are absurdly long and confusing at times. The test questions are usually unrelated to the material given and are guesswork for many of them. It's hard to get good marks on assignments too. This is a challenging class for the 100 level.
I find it extremely disheartening that an indigenous woman teaching indigenous studies completely failed to teach us properly. I can't imagine why the average canadian has no interest or passion for indg issues when this is the most we are taught.
Exam questions were mostly obscure pieces of trivia. Forum prompts had nothing to do with the assigned readings.
This class sucked. Kingfisher was unclear on instructions & VERY reading heavy. The readings & vids had very little info that was relevant to the class and were extremely dry. However, because this class was online and she had barely any lecture videos, the readings were necessary to pass the class. I would not take another class from her again.
One of the assignments had a trigger warning for sexual abuse but you still have to do it.
Tests are made up of facts that you have no way of preparing for. There are weird fill-in-the-blank questions of random quotes that students are given zero hints or clarification for beforehand. Expects students to memorize over 25 super-specific dates (ie: 26 March 1885). Has a "ppl expect this class to be easy so I'll make it impossible" attitude
Seems to expect perfection with little to no communication on actually guidelines. We were giving no info about the mid-term until 2 days before the test forcing everybody to cram for it.
don't take this class
This class made me hate INDG issues, and the fact that this is being made mandatory guarentees the next generation is more covert and resentful towards indg issues than the last.
The content is so interesting, but goodluck in this course. You read over 50 pages per week, so going through the weeks materials takes at least 2-3 days. Assignments are marked so hard, you cannot get over a 65. GOODLUCK on the exams it's pure trivia. Do not take this course if you don't need it.
This prof has made dislike indigenous studies a lot, this class is set up very poorly and it doesn't seem to bother her and won't change anything. Be very prepared to spend a lot of your time reading between 20 -37 pages sometimes more and it's usually two readings, videos from YouTube and knowledge checks. be very prepared
Did not give any instructions on assignments that were important to the assignment at all. Takes weeks to get back even the smallest assignments and when you did there was no explanations on why you got marked the way you did.
The professor expects us to remember all the dates and we have like 100's of them in the course material how would somebody expect that to be rememberes . Freinds please dont take this course.
Leta's class was not overly engaging and came with many challenges. Her class content is interesting, but her lectures are brief and mainly consist of reading books or documents that are photos of books, so if you use accessible software, good luck... I shed a few tears over this, lol. Her assignments were fun, but the midterm was memorizing:(
Leta is not good at communicating, and when asked for clarification turned defensive. she also plans for more then the 3 credit hours the course is advertised as, often supplying work for 4 or 5 hours a week. the class is verry large, so if you need to get in touch with her go directly to her email instead of through the TAs.
Structure of course is pretty fair. Assignments were worth almost half of the final grade. Midterm and final exams made up the other half. Insane amount of reading per week though, with some weeks consisting of videos and some being an hour long. Some weeks had 50 pages of reading PLUS an hour-long video. Be prepared to be frustrated
Course material is mostly just very lengthy reading (almost 50 pages a week) and long videos. The class is supposed to be 3 credit hours per week but the amount of reading almost doubled that. Instructions for assignments tend to be unclear and Dr. Kingfisher seems very defensive in responses to emails that ask for clarification.
Dr. Kingfisher is very unhelpful. These other reviews are right, it's all just tons of reading and long videos for our learning and she never even teaches us, let alone talks to us. We were told not to contact her and only contact the TA's, but it's December and my TA hasn't responded since October. Also not allowed to access prior knowledge.
Get ready to read heavy texts and material regarding topics that are very hard to grasp. It is solely based on government and political aspects through 30-page readings. For the final, she expects us to remember 50+ dates and events regarding history. It is extremely unrealistic.
Passive aggressive. Not welcoming.
I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot of things, and everything on the tests was from the units we had to read. The class was very organized, so I knew exactly what I had to do next. There is a lot of reading, and there were only 2 tests but they were worth almost half of the grades. If you study effectively this should not be an issue.
Leta is a great prof, very knowledgeable and passionate for the material. Course was enlightening and provided a thorough history from a rarely taught Indigenous perspective. 6 written assignments, midterm, final. All exam questions were from covered material. She included helpful info links as well. If you're not self motivated, you won't do well.
Your mark will depend on your TA, some mark harder than others. Dr Kingfisher rarely marks the work herself, and does not like being contacted by her students. If you can, avoid this professor. You will be expected to memorize obscure timelines, names, and dates WORD FOR WORD.
Worst professor you could ever have. She was co teaching and told us not to contact the other instructor. Became very defensive when we wanted to get answers. The TA did everything, we were told to contact our group TA Unrealistic course expectations- she is extremely rude, defensive and honestly the worst instructor. Get rid of her
You don't deal with the prof half the time, it's all done through her TAs. Their grading is slow, don't expect high marks or to get marks back in time before next assignment. Make sure to follow everything to a T, as well, no outside info unless asked. Tests, mostly date memorizing, + random info you wouldn't think was important. Readings provided.
Terrible prof. I am so disturbed and have never been treated so poorly by a teacher. She does not grade the assignments and refers you to speak to her TAs if you have questions. She gave me a lower mark on an assignment simply for asking if she could answer my question instead of her TAs. She is rude, defensive, and unmannerly. Drop the class!
She was okay lots of articles and stuff. Pretty hard for an intro class. You have to remember lots of dates and specific details. If this is an extra credit class maybe do not take her but if you need this class just be prepared. Hope you get a good TA as they do all your markings on papers.
Borderline awful prof honestly. Was not allowed to contact her for assistance, which was understandable in such a large class, but the TAs were AWFUL, and "tattled" when the students "asked too many questions". TAs were unapproachable and rude. Avoid this course if you can.
I would hardly hear back from her and was rude in the emails. TA's corrected everything yet when reached out to my TA, I wouldn't get an email back. Her mid terms + final had mistakes on it and a lot of memorizing dates. I only did as good since I knew most of the stuff from grade 12 History class.
By far the worst prof I have ever had. 7 papers, a midterm, and final. This was a 100 level course! You will be reading and watching videos for atleast 4 hours every week. No support from the Prof (youre told v clearly to not email her) and no support from TAs. Sink or swim in this class, youre on your own. I will never take a class from her again
Was super excited for my first INDG course but the prof makes me want to never take another INDG course. Tough grader and u will be clueless about how to do well. Course materials are hard to access, so much going on in the course page and overall awful. She gives no extension without documentation which is inhumane. For a 100 course, exhausting.
Very disorganized class and hard to get hold of any TAs or the Prof.
Course is disorganized
Her reviews had scared me since day 1. I had joined this class hoping that it would not resemeble the ratings she was given. It is terrible, the tests were so hard and her reviews were very disorganized and did not make any sense. My TA was pretty nice, but it all depends on luck of who you get. I would never recommend this class to anyone.
Dr. Kingfisher is not an academic professor. Her tests/readings are full of typos, grammatical errors and are overall disorganized. Questions consist of random facts that seemingly ignore all the important material. The reviews purposefully lead you in the wrong direction. You will also have to write paper after paper throughout the course. Avoid.
I would not recommend this course to anyone. She does not teach and just throws work at us that takes up so much time and effort. I try my hardest and still when I get marked badly she just gets mad and doesn't help me on what I need fixed! When she gives good feedback I still have marks docked which again I do not know why! Bad communicator to!
Course load is 12hr a week - includes irrelevant 3 minute videos and 30 page readings that are extremely vague. TA's will lower your mark if you contact them in regards to an assignment instead of responding. Was very much looking forward to this course, now I am counting the days until it is over. Do not take this course through her!!!!
How is it possible for her to still have a job- she's rude, don't try to contact her or the ta. She gets mad at you for asking questions- she is so unprofessional good luck if you take her class- drop it, run and take it a different time. They should fire her
I feel like it has already been said but the content is heavy, I got bad grades despite being a good writer, got feedback that was not helpful, and overall was just constantly behind. I did learn a lot and do not regret taking it as I feel much more knowledgeable about Indigenous history, but I would not take another class with her.
Incredibly heavy for a 100 level class. So much reading and long videos to watch. Unecessary.
2+ hour videos as homework and then a 40 page reading is an EASY week. Insane levels of reading and very assignment / essay heavy. She expects very detailed knowledge (100s of EXACT dates) on what is supposed to be an introductory subject. More than half of the people I know that took this class dropped it. I wish I did too.
two hour videos and 60 pages of readings is an EASY week. If u take this class make sure to memorize every single one of the hundreds of dates ur gonna learn, because she expects u to know everything about this introductory level subject! More than half of the people I know who took this class dropped it because of her. I wish I did the same.
I had issues w/ midterm tech stuff which she was accommodating for when I emailed her directly. LOTS of reading. Had to memorize exact dates and a million court cases. Always behind/scrambling. TA's mark hard. Mostly clear grading criteria. Wouldn't take again but didn't have many issues w/ her directly.
it is super difficult to get into the flow at the start of the course. she is kind of stressful and makes it very clear she is not approachable. my TA was very kind and graded me fairly! i recommend downloading a screen reader to help with the mounds of readings she gives. I found assignments/case studies enjoyable. tests are all multi choice!
Take this class fully online/asynchronous if you can. This class was much simpler on my own then when I was in her lecture class. Be prepared to read lots but she gives great recaps and tons of time to work on assignments.
If you pay attention to the concepts and lessons taught, then you will do well in this class. Lots of reading, but the content is well interesting. The exams however are mostly multiple choice, but can consist of difficult questions.
If you take this prof, I know it is most likely because you have to. The unfortunate experience of this prof is because she NEVER responds and has heavy amounts of reading for an INTRO class. Such a good subject wasted because of a prof that has a lack of care for it. As well, be aware of having to do very insensitive assignments.
This class made me have lots of mental breakdowns, she gives way to much reading for an intro class, and when you try and get in touch with her she is rude and doesn't help much and refers you to the TA. If you can avoid don't take it with her. Will be taking this class with someone else.
As a first-year class, Leta Kingfisher's class is one that you will definitely cry about later on. She has high expectations for her students, but in all the wrong ways. Is not a good introductory course for first years and is definitely not a welcoming professor. TAs mostly do grading, and is adamant about not contacting her unless you NEED it.
Terrible class not even comparable to other 100class. Overload of info, reading, assign requirements turn one off of wanting to know or learn about IND cultures. Unfair marking, exam rules treating adults as if everyone is some kind of cheater or that we all lack integrity. Disgraceful! Indigenous and turned off by this class.
Too much for 100-level class. I took this class as an elective hoping it would be a little easier, but it turns out my higher level classes were easier than her class. Barely responds to emails, and mostly relies on her TAs.
It is pretty hard to give a rating for a teacher who is barely present, and actively tries to avoid you (by making her email the last resort for a problem). Your only hope is having a good TA, who is the one that does all the marking. The information was interesting, but there was an absurd amount for you to know for a beginning class. Good luck.
As an introductory class, the workload is too heavy. The exam style is a nightmare. The exam consists of true/false and filling the gaps. The multiple-choice questions, you must select all possible answers, otherwise, you will lose marks. She clearly stated this in every question. Her course gave me trauma, I almost took the whole semester off.
This professor was awful, there was too much material to go through and nothing was retainable. she also only interacted with students with a 8 min video one a week
Awful professor. Next to No interaction with student. Abundance to read and expected to remember all of it in order to pass.
She does not respond (it was an online asynchronous course), only 4 assignments/tests worth a lot, TA does all the marking, she reported me for plagiarism without speaking to me and I was found not guilty and she was not happy about that and I believe it affected my grades, she said things were mandatory on the paper but never told us until after.
I advise anyone who considers taking her class to run in the other direction. Although the topic is interesting, the readings are insane for an introductory level course and her policies are outrageous. She is never accessible and the TA's do all the marking. I seriously wished I had dropped this course and had taken it with another prof.
VERY reading heavy, papers have confusing and strict guidelines to follow for an introductory course. References require extensive adherence and caution. Professor relies entirely on the weight of their reused readings. Course is comparable to analyzing a textbook where each chapter is locked until you read all of the last chapter. Do not recommend
The amount of lecture material is ridiculous. Papers using outside sources are required to have screenshots including page numbers + the title of the website and cite them properly so it was “easy for the TAs to mark”. One paper most points she marked off were for slight grammatical errors despite this being an indigenous studies 100 level class.
The worst prof ever 😭 guys run because why would you have Too many notes for an introductory course ??
This course made me want to dropout of university
She's honestly not a good professor. Her assignments are so heavy and she gives you little time to complete it, she also communicates poorly and even though she makes mistakes she'll still find a way to turn it on you. Her Midterm and Exams are also unnecessarily hard, she expects you to know her course word word. For a first year class
Coming from a final year university student, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. The only course till date that i stand on the verge of failing. The assignments are difficult and graded unfairly by TAs. Communication with prof is limited. You can only hope to get a good TA or other Leta does not adjust your grades even if TAs are at fault.
I've worked really hard in this course, but the heavy workload — including long readings and hour-long videos — has been overwhelming. It feels like I'm doing three courses in one, and despite my effort, my marks don't reflect that. I usually score above 80%, but this course might affect my GPA. I wish I had chosen a different course.
Honestly what can I say about this prof. I went into this class thinking it was going to be fun, I was sadly mistaken, I read the review prior but I didn't think they were that bad, boy was I wrong. She doesn't interact with her student much. I can say the saving grace for her was that most of her exams are multiple choice.
high expectations
The fact is that she's actually quite lazy (Took one Google image search to figure that out!) and seems like she organized the class the last minute. Some spelling mistakes in her "knowledge check" questions. What a waste of everybody's time.
lots of reading and exams require you to know the modules word for word.
Me and my roommate both took this class, I stuck out a few weeks but we both eventually dropped it. Major expectations, no help, not welcoming at all, says not to email her, insane amounts of reading, confusing assignments, etc. I spent an entire week just doing her coursework, caused me to fall behind in other classes. I wish I could write more.
i am currently talking this class , i didnt read RATE MY PRLOFESSOR , she is e v i l do not take this class
Dr Kingfisher was not always easy to access questions from. My TA however was easy to access. Dr Kingfisher is very adamant about not using AI. If you actively use AI to do your assignments for you, do not take her class (really don't take any class in university if you are relying on AI to do your assignments). Easy quizzes. Do knowledge checks Qs
Her class is tough for a 1st year, but that's part of univ. life. Get over it! She is tough on academic writing and use of AI and plagiarism. If you haven't written an academic paper yet, take other classes first and get help with that. knowledgeable and classes are well organized! Her quizzes are terrible (memory test) Don't take during spring
Extremely unsympathetic and difficult to learn from. Other students did most of the explaining through discord. Course is extremely difficult to navigate, and if you have a concern, she will direct you to a teachers assistant or the head of the department. She even recommended I skip a class to write her quiz instead of allowing me to re-schedule.
Extremely high expectations, but no support. Spelling mistakes in modules, but harsh grading. ENORMOUS workload/amount of reading. Directs you to other resources instead of helping herself. Recommended I dropped her class when I brought up concerns. Honestly not sure how she's still teaching when looking at other reviews. Wish I could write more:(
With all due respect, this class was awful. I was looking forward to this class and learning more about Indigenous society, but this class makes that impossible! The course is very unorganized and hard to navigate. The tests are AWFUL and felt impossible to study for. I studied day and night and still felt completely lost on her tests. Do not take!
DO NOT take this class. Save yourself by taking an in-person class. It will be so much easier. The course load is too heavy for the level of the course. I went into the class thinking it was going to be interesting and fun wrong the worst class I have ever taken, never again! Also hardly responds to emails and expects TAs to do all the work.
Leta is HORRIBLE. please save yourself. The 3 good reviews she has were 100% her and her TA's. She does not care about her students, and doesn't even really interact with the class. Her tests are insanely unfair, and she constantly has spelling errors but will give you a 0 if you do. if you want to succeed, her class isn't the way to do it.
The online INDG100 model is awfully constructed. The course load and readings are too much for a first year class. She has overly high expectations of categorically "new" uni students w/ no prior experience to uni classes. Tests are unfair and are practically impossible to study for. There's too much info to memorize for a 1st year online class.
Please do not take this class (please). Lot of material (way to much) and the assignments/quiz that are given are unbearable. Choose another professor for this course and you will almost certainly pass.
This class was awfully hard and i would absolutely not recommend taking it with her. Her readings are so long with many hours of videos to watch as well. Her tests are so incredibly stressful and hard. The workload of this class is extremely difficult for a first year student.
Lost all interest for Indigenous studies after taking this class. Leta Kingfisher continually justifies her unrealistic expectations by saying "This is what a university class is like." I have taken plenty of classes, and this was by far the worst. The tests are impossible even if you study and follow material, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE.
Leta has WAY too high of expectations for this class. This class has more notes and readings than all 3 of my 300-level classes COMBINED. Way too much to memorize and she tests on the most specific details. Do the readings as a lot of test questions come directly from them. A 100-level should not take up this much time and cause this much stress.
When all of your students complain to you about the amount of notes and readings and the diffculty of your tests, CHANGE THEM. Way to much information and way too high of expectations for a 100-level class. You get such a short amount of time to write the "quiz" which is more like a midterm or even a final.
If you do not have a good memory, do not take this class. The quizes require you to know the material word for word. Even if you know the material, if you do not get the wording right, its marked as wrong. I don't know how she's able to continue teaching this class. PLEASE do not take this class
Your TA's will do all your grading and comunication. Leta does 3 zoom lectures (maybe less) a semester that are not always easy to attend, and thats her only communication during the semester, besides random blanket emails. Weekly readings are heavy, and usually 100+ knowledge questions after to complete that show up on the quiz, word for word.
Could easily spend 15+ hours on this class alone every week. INSANE amounts of reading & note taking. Extremely high expectations for a 100 level class. You're told to direct most questions to your TA but hardly hear back from them. I understand it's a huge class but it needs to be restructured. Don't take this class or take it from someone else.
Please do not take this class with Leta. I dropped the class long after the refund period was over due to it pushing me into a full on mental breakdown. The quizzes require you to fully memorize her 100+ knowledge check questions FOR EACH MODULE. The expectations are way too high and it is moreso a second year class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
This class made think about dropping out, i would highly not recommend this class if you have respect for yourself. This class was so much more stressful due to the fact that Leta wanted the questions to be directed to the TA's, however, they never asked and then you'd end up having to email her, which she would be kind of rude when answering.
expects 6 hours a week of work put into 100 level course, that is highly repetitive content from sask k-12 curriculum. the most she communicates with the class is to reprimand people, and threaten to share the course engagement of the students that complain. She is convinced that you are cheating before you start this course.
she litreally threatens students to show their academic progress to all other fellow students.
If you need a class to help you cry your feelings out, this is the one. Get ready to study for the class as if there are two combined in one. When you send out emails to the TAs or the prof personally, you're either responded to in a sassy manner by the prof, or just crickets. LOL good-luck!
I didn't trust the ratings for how terrible she was, and I regret it. I spend time crying and breaking down because of her. She's rude when you ask her anything. We had to talk to the Dean it got that bad. She is so unreasonable. If you want to get a good grade and leave with your sanity, DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER!
AWFUL COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Will not read your email, dry replies without expanding or explaining anything. No attempts to help accommodate anything for students. Will not meet you halfway. Impossible to get your point across. Awful professor. Doesn't treat students like people, or give any understanding. Don't expect to be helped.
Dr leta hates her job and reflects it onto her students. The worst class I have ever taken.
If you are here to see if you should keep this class or drop it, DROP IT! This class was a joke, the prof was incredibly rude, aggressive, and unprofessional. I've spent hours on this class and have not retained anything. Take any other professor, I can guarantee she will make you cry, and overall question your integrity and self worth.
She is probably the worst teacher/ prof I have ever had. Exams are incredibly long and majority fill in the blank with no word bank. Exams are heavily time restricted and a large amount of other students don't complete them in time. I'm not sure how she expects us to remember all the random names of indigenous practices off the dome. DO NOT TAKE!
Leta if you reading this, youre 1.0 rated. I hope I never cross path with you again.
I enjoyed the content of this course but the professor clearly hates her job. She will have you going to anyone else possible to ask a questions before her. Randomly took 4 weeks leave near end of semester. The 1st test is a wake up call but if you understand what you need to perpare for its possible to score better. If not mandatory, do not take.
She doesn't want to teach. Absolutely not taking it again
Overall, the prof just expected things out of the students (especially since it's usually a first year course) that no other prof I've had has asked of us. Respectfully, I would try and switch if you have a class of hers.
No passion for her craft. I will never understand a Doctor who teaches a 100 level course.
I will never in my life take one of her classes again, I have never been graded so unfairly in my entire life, words cannot express how horrific she really is, I never wanted to write a review on here but I have to. It got so bad I had to go to the Dean, please for your sanity do not take her classes.
Run don't walk! Drop this course immediately! It's almost like this prof is getting revenge for what happened to the Indigenous population by making it impossible to pass this course so you would have to re-learn everything again just for the to cycle to repeat.
FACT: This professor gives you mental anguish so she can sell somatic trauma therapy to her students
Not a good professor. Does not do her job at all. Makes you go through numerous people before you can reach her for anything.
The most rewarding part of taking her class is finishing it so you learn from the mistake of taking her class in the first place, avoiding her in the future. What a brutal semester. Reprimanded students in the only emails she was willing to send, and threatened to show our course engagement when we complained about her via email. She hates her job.
