Good lecturer. Excellent multi-media presentation. Actively involved in his community and expects good writing on his papers. Grade based upon 3-4 essay exams. Pay attention and take VERY detailed notes. Know your subject.

He's a great teacher has great knowledge about history and politics. He uses multimedia, older and current as part of his lecture, so it becomes easier to understand. Great teaching style and intellegent.

I took his Armenian Diaspora class for god knows what reason, but even though I'm not Armenian, I'm glad I took the class. I came out with a B, and I must say it was definitely one of my hardest earned B's. He is very informative and passionate.

I have my PhD now because of his passion for teaching and for history. It's true you have to work hard, but you'll never forget what you learned in his classes.

Marashlian is hilarious and a great teacher. His class was one of my favorites. He knows everything about his subject, and you really learn and enjoy yourself with him. He doesn't gloss over anything and tells it like it is.

The Armenian history class was very interesting. He has great footage and evidence for his class discussions. Overall good. One thing bothered me, he tends to be a litte **** and I dont respect that.

marshalian is pretty hard. hes a really cool funny guy but you def have to read the text carefully and pay attention in class. his tests are kinda brutal but theres no hw. but i enjoyed it anyway, if ur down to work a bit take him hes great. the class is so interesting

One thing is that he is kind of biased sometimes when he is teaching about Armenian history. He thinks his view is the only that is right.

This dude is not much of a human being, but he's one hell of a professor. He is THE best professor i've ever had. His teaching method is original and very helpful. For some reason he seems to forget he's a teacher when you go to his office. He nags and rushes you. Nonetheless, GREAT TEACHER!

Took him for US history. He does a great job of presenting the material. It is a mix of political science, current events, and history. A truly original teacher. Very helpful, HIGHLY reccomended. And NO, all he talks about is NOT armenia. He mentions various minorities, which are an inseperable part of US history.

Mr.Marashlian is the best History and Pol.Sci teacher at GCC. He is smart,intelligent,and helps a lot when you go to his office.His tests are based on his lectures.U don't have to read the bood if you take good notes.Just one mid-term and one final.He prepares U 4 higher education and how to write a good essay.If U take his class, U'll learn a lot.

He's an easy teacher. You don't have to read book a lot, just take a good note and study it because his test is mainly based on his lecture. I dont feel any pressure from studying this class. Just go class, listen to him and take note. The only time you have to study is about 1 week before the test, and he only has about 3 tests throughout the seme

To anyone who has read the negative reviews-you can rest assured those were the people that rarely showed for class and got a less than desirable grade.Marashlian teaches you critical thinking, along with US history. Take the guys class and learn academic history and politics within the US, and just show up for class and take good notes.

By far the worst professor I have ever had. His tests are extremely difficult and grades extra hard on the essay portion. The lectures are based on videos which for a good portion are COMPLETELY irrelevant to U.S. history (videos of trips to armenia and segments of jay leno) and are a waste of time. He spent a whole week on the Armenian Genocide

DEFINETLY one of my favorite teachers at GCC. He is very smart and knows exactly what he is talking about. I want to take all his classes at GCC just because he is teaching them. The class is pretty easy and the lectures are pretty much all on video so if you are a visual learner you will do well. I highly recommend him to everyone!

Great teacher. gives a lot of notes, but all his notes are clear and understandable. if your are willing to go to class you will get no lower than a B. just take notes and ask him questions after class so he'll remember you and you'll pass. by the way his tests are essays so its easier to get a high grade.

Great professor. This class was truly unique. Dr. Marashlian gave us information that can be used to view the Middle East Conflict for years to come. I recommend this class to all students interested in learning about what happens on a daily basis in the middle east. This class gives you the knowledge to backup your arguments for the current war.

He is a very cool teacher if you ask for extra credit he will give it to you, I didn't know a thing about U.S history and ended up walking out of his class with a B and knowing a lot of things I never learned. He is a very easy teacher just read the textbook and take notes and you'll be fine.

He is a very dedicated teacher, he knows soo much and his lectures are truly very interesting. 2 essays and one final essay, if you have a B average on the first two and do veryy well on the final one, you'll get an A, also do extracredit and keep in touch with him, talk to him if you have any problems, and get advice, he's great!

I have him for Poly Sci 101, and he is wonderful. Very well informed with video's that if you pay attention will teach you a ton and open your eyes to current events and their possible historic attachments. He's passionate, which always makes classes better, and he's been teaching for 20 years, so he knows what he's doing.

Great Teacher! Very hard class and you have to pay attention AT ALL TIMES during class. Grades fairly...you have to write A LOT on the tests. Tests are all essays and if you prove to him that you know the material you will get a good grade. DO NOT DISTURB THE CLASS! He presents all sides of politics and is very honest about everything.

Marashlian is very narrow minded. He does not think logically he teaches his students the way he was thought in the U.S. which is very ignorant. He does not go into indebt analysis of situations. Such as the Shah of Iran and the U.S. involvement. He is a whatever professor.

Levon is a very smart man. i took him twice but i gotta tell you hes classes are not easy you must really earn your grade. but the man has got to be respected he really knows his material.

There's only one way to score points in that class: essay exam. No notes, work, or anything is collected, so there's no other way to get points in that class. It's ALL based on the essay you write. Miss anything that he thinks is important on the essay, and you go down at least a couple of grades. You must take lots of notes and STUDY THEM to pass.

Is he hard? Yes!! Is he tough on his students? yes!! Does he prepare you for higher level of education? Absolutely. And despite what some other people have written, he's an excellent professor, who thinks highly of his students as to demand the utmost from them. He's detailed and encourages critical thinking. Mr. Marashlian is an amazing teacher. Although his class is tough you leave with great knowledge. Make sure you take a ton of notes because thats where your whole grade is. There are 3 exams which consist of essays and a final exam. The class is hard and it requires you to be in class every day. He is great and has awesome teaching methods.

GO TO HIS OFFICE HOUR. He is extremely helpful and sympathetic to his students. I agree the tests are long, hard, and you need every bit of information he tells you. I had a crazy amount of notes by the end. However, I put in a lot of effort and got an A. Don't complain without trying.

He was an excellent professor who prepared me for University upper level coursework when I transferred. His lectures were intriguing, enlightening and highly informative. My only complaint is, and I discovered this years later after reviewing my notes that he presents himself as "chezoke" but his views are staunchly "dashnak." That's the only minus

I enjoyed his class, but you must attend every lecture and take diligent notes. The class is entirely based on three exams, which are mostly comprised of difficult essays. True, you are screwed if you miss one class. But you won't want to - this guy is brilliant and entertaining. True, you'll watch a lot of videos, but I've learned more from him in one semester than I did in all of high school. All these reviews are pretty dot on, but I would like to mention something about the tests. You have 3 tests the whole semester, and honestly, your grade depends on how fast you can write. i didn't get a chance to finish the final, i wrote 9 pages, and for 2.5 hours i didn't lift my hand from the paper. He is a passionate professor, however.

I took his class in winter. It was very interesting and I knew every piece of information, but he still have me a C on my first essay. I wasn't even able to finish writing the second essay within the 1 hour, so I dropped the class. Take someone easier, unless you are content with a C

Honestly the best professor at GCC. He is so passionate about what he teaches and he knows his subject well. Open to questions and helps clarify anything you aren't sure about. Your grade is based on three tests and all you have to do is be in class and pay attentions. Definitely recommended to take AT LEAST once! HE IS AMAZING!!

I took several of his courses many years ago, and he was the best teacher I ever had. He inspired me to go on, which I did (to a PhD). About those essay exams: He used to give the questions a few days before exam. I learned a lot that way, and planned what I wanted to write ahead of time. I got A's, and still remember the important material now.

Hes a really good teacher but it would be better if his whole grading wasnt based on just 3 exams and I think he kind of expects too much for the final but overall hes really good and makes class interesting youll do good if you study well and tae interest

Very hard class and very harsh grader. Your whole grade is based on 2 exams and a final. He's an amazing professor and I learned so much about US hist in 1 semester than I had my whole life. Write down every word tht comes out of his mouth to do well on the MC section. Use the book only for the chapter the essay is on. Worked very hard and got a B

This man is a great teacher. He is hard but if you take notes, pay attention,and pre-write your essays before the test and get his feedback you will do good. Only 3 test with few multiple choice but mostly an essay test he gives the question before hand so you can prepare. He went to war so he knows his history better than any one I ever had.

I don't understand the negative comments. He did jump from topic to topic but it was easy to grasp the idea and maybe some people were too slow to understand it. He is a great teacher and he just expects you to put some effort in the class. You don't have to write word for word essays but as long as you write a good amount an "A" is def. easy!

Well pre-write your notes into a essay, i only needed to type 2 page essays before the test and remembered everything = GOODNESS! At least write 4 pages for the tests and your good. Hard class but nothings easy right ? :P You need detail DETAIL ; otherwise not for lazy people

Love him! Lectures are interesting, take notes on everything he says-they will be useful. On the tests, make sure you write as much information as you can seriously just write everything you know. If he see's you trying he will bump your grade up at the end of the semester-don't slack, come to class take notes and just look like your trying.

If you want to learn about politics and even more, take this class. The negative externality is that an A is very difficult to get and you will most likely get a C and if you try hard enough get a B. He is a respectable perfessor but I can find his hour test with an expectation of 3, 4, 5 and at the final, a 2.5 hour test maybe 8+ pages of work.

He is definitely not easy, but you will learn a lot about the course. He grades hard, and expects you to write a lot in short times given. You need to provide details both from his notes and the book. He lectures well and gives the answers of the multiple choice questions in it, so that part is easy. The writing parts of it are the real challenge.

While Dr. Marashlian has accomplished much throughout his life, his class does seem to be difficult to a ridiculous degree. I would write about 6-7 pages for his tests and would receive a C or a very low B, never an A. I don't know how you would earn an A in this class. Dr. Marashlian is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had in my entire life. He knows his subjects very well and he tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests. Prof. Marashlian is one of the most passionate professors I've taken. Though his lectures are purely video notes, he repeats the info constantly so you don't miss it. His tests are essays but all you do is summarize your notes. He is very lenient & gives tons of extra credit. I will definitely be taking his other courses.

The entire class consists of video material which isn't so bad. It was hard if you didn't listen, didn't show up, or didn't take notes; that was the only time anyone had trouble. Exams are essays. He gives many extra credit opportunities that can boost your grade a whole letter grade if u do them! I will definitely take classes with him again!!!

His class is challenging and requires full attention. The class is based on 3 exams and bunch of extra credits. His testing is a little bit unfair. He requires at least 3 pages written info and multiple choice questions. However, the material is so much there isn't enough time for all. On the other, I learned a lot from this class. He's a very educated and informed teacher. He used a lot of well picked videos during lectures, which made it a lot more interesting for me. He is a tough grader, but just write a lot and show you read the book on the essays.

Professor Marashlian was an amazing educator i took three courses with him POLYSCI111, PolySci101, and Ethic164. His lectures are mostly video recording which he commentates on all the time. Take good notes and you will get a solid B in the class. Getting an A requires some reading either from the book or news sources. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite classes I've taken at GCC. You can tell that he is very passionate about the subject he is teaching, if you want to learn something I highly recommend his class. There is no homework, just 3 written tests and he offers a lot of extra credit!

You HAVE to read the book -- no way around it. There are no powerpoint notes -- he shows tapes of shows/documentaries he recorded as the lecture material on which you have to take detailed notes. Tough grader -- you really have to bust your butt for a decent grade. Don't bother giving a different opinion than him -- he will shut you down quick.

Mr. Marashlian is an amazing professor, I took his 7:00am class and I learned so much from his lectures. He made us laugh all the time and encouraged us to participate in class discussions. at first I hated him. he is a very tough grader! u need to come to class, read the book and take good notes in order to pass. there are only 3 exams. his gives a lot of extra credit work. he can be rude sometimes, doesn't let u speak your mind, but, his class is very interesting. wasn't into politics until now. you will need to work for this class!

I don't understand what else people would want? He knows the material, explains stuff with examples that are memorable/funny. He tells you everything that's in the exam, there are 3 in total; all are essays. If you pay attention in class, take notes, read the material and do practice essay at home then A for sure, also a lot of extra credit.

I've taken every course Professor Marashlian has taught. He is NOT an easy grader. He wants to know that you've learned the material you're being tested on. His 3 exams are in class essays but offers a lot of extra credit which gives you the opportunity to be bumped up at least half a grade. Creates his own teaching material. Unique but great prof.

Professor Marashlian gives clear direction as to what he wants on his exams and what he doesnt want. He expects you to read the book on your own time and definitely do so as you should mention things not discussed in class to get a good grade. Attendance is always taken, and definitely go to extra credit so he will bump up your grade!

One of the best professors I have ever had in my academic career, probably the best. He shows you vhs tapes that he has recorded throughout as well as personal experiences he has had related to the class. He inspired me to become a historian and embrace the beauty of history specifically Armenian and Russian history. I cant thank him enough!!

One of the best Professor I ever had. 3 exams all citing what you learned in lectures. Make sure to mention key words from the textbook as well proving u read the book. He is a great professor and Ive learned a lot from him!

Professor Marashlian is extremely knowledgable and passionate in his teaching. I learned so much about the Armenian Diaspora in such little time. However, he is a tough grader and has high expectations in your three written exams (what your grade is composed of). Also, he offers a ton of extra credit throughout the semester.

He makes learning so interesting! I'm not huge on learning about history but he was very passionate about the topics and that made it very interesting. 3 tests, thats it. Great professor, he's very clear about what he wants on the exams. I got A's on all the exams, but i put a lot of work into the essays. Very easy class! you also HAVE to read.

He honestly knows his material. You NEED to attend class in order to pass. There is no way to skip out because whatever he says is on the exam. His tests are all essays and 15 to 20 multiple choice questions. Overall, very good.

Makes lectures interesting, relates it to whats going on politically in the present, take notes he specifically wants you to take thats exactly how he wants his essay written.

Enjoyed his class and lectures! Youll really learn a lot in his class. He makes lot of funny jokes and hes really passionate about his job. There are 3 exams and if you take notes, read the chapters he gives youll be fine. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is truly a gem and knows exactly what he's talking about. Literally an encyclopedia of information. You have to write a lot of essays but just know that at the end, it is 100% worth it. One of the best teachers at GCC, hands-down.

Took his class last fall and let me tell you this isn't an easy going class BUT I learned more in this class than in all the other classes that I've taken so far. Be prepared to write A LOT for the essay on the 3 tests. Take down as much notes you can and read. Show him that you care too, he was nice enough to drop my lowest test score.

Wonderful professor and fair grader. I loved the lectures so much and learned a lot of facts that I talk to my family members about them. My nephew suggested this professor, and I would like to suggest other students who are planning to take political science. He is one of the best professors in GCC so don't miss his thoughtful lectures.

I took his class during Fall 2017. He is a very great professor! Very knowledgable! His class is very heavy on lectures and you definitely have to take notes because his midterms and final exam are from the videos you watch and whatever he talks about. His final exam is about 12 pages hand written essay and a 10 multiple choice questions.

Prof. Marashlian is a very passionate and dedicated to his field, and has has countless years presenting and arguing in front of various committee's (like the US house of reps), While his lectures are fun, your entire class grade is based on three essays, where the criteria for a particular grade is extremely vague. He also gives plenty of EC.

pros - You have to watch documentary movies and write papers based on the movies You've watched. You can watch the movies whenever You want, the writing is pretty straight forward. cons-He is a bit strict on his word count. Keep in mind: "minimum" word count, means You'll get the minimum grade to pass(C). he expects 20-30% more for You to get an A.

If you want to enroll in Armenian history or any subject related to it, choose this professor! he is easygoing and understanding.

im so happy there's a prof who loves his culture so much that he teaches it with so much passion. He gives essay prompts ahead of time so you can have it done before he opens the assignment. 100% reccomend

As someone who went to armenian school for a majority of my life, none of my teachers had the passion and excitement to teach as prof. Marashlian.
