He hasn't taken into consideration that he doesn't teach at Harvard anymore. His tests are very difficult and reflect his overwhelming knowledge and prior teaching experience at Harvard. His focus seemed unclear. take him if you want to work hard!
well informed but tough teacher. He expects alot out of his students. He didn't stick to the syllabus at all.We didn't have enough time in the semester to cover all he wanted us to learn, so he extended class time 45min. for the last two wks. of class
Dr. Fox is very knowledgeable. He is very helpful but his test are very hard. Plan on working alot in this class.
Awesome professor. I took him two semesters straight. He is willing to stay after class as long as needed to help out. He is also very knowledgeable. What I always wonder is, how does his cup of coffee last him 3 hours.
He is very hard on his tests. He said if we pass his class any other chemisrty class will be easy for us. He is willing help and meet you after class to be sure you understand. Plan on working ESCTRMELly Hard!! God Luck!
I've just pass his class with a B , and I feel me like I"m an expert in chemistry! If you're in a Science Major, Dr.FOx is what you need. Hard, Very Hard...Good Luck!!!
Extremely intelligent man, willing to stay before/after to help you or clarify a question you may have. Do your homework, WRITE AND UNDERSTAND his problems he gives at the beginning of class. His brain is in another layer of the universe and you can't always grasp the concepts. Difficult - got an A but worked as though the rent was due yesterday!
he's a really smart person, he's pretty good at expalaining evertything, but his tests are really hard.
He is the man for chemistry when it comes to explaining something in depth. He makes sure the enire class understands the topic before moving on. He's a very dedicated professor who goes the extra mile in helping us, for instance giving us solutions handouts to questions from the text. To sum it all up...he's AWESOME!!!
I will agree that he really knows his Chem- great teacher. However I didn't like that you only had 2 exams and your final. The exams were 50% of your grade and your final was another 50%. He could have given more exams to give more opportunity to get better grades.
This class was very HARD!! Only Science majors should take this class. I was only taking Chemistry to meet my science requirement as I am a business major. What a mistake! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT A SCIENCE MAJOR. It is really tough, a lot of work and lot of problems. I dropped it after I got a 16 on the first test.
Chemistry, to me, seems esoteric, impossable even. For such a hard class, though, Dr. Fox made a great teacher. He's clear, smart, and funny. His electric personality will help ensure that you stay awake in his class and absorb the material.
very good teachnig skills
Hard Work but that is chemistry. Attend classes and be able to do the math work. Thats mostly what the majority of the test is about. I had 37 on my first test and a 97 on my second, he knows his stuff. Its just upto you to learn the work.
An awful teacher. So much information thrown at you for the exams. I studied so hard. His tests are brutal. He knows his stuff, but I feel he is detached from the students trying to grasp the concepts. It didn't help that the Timberlake book was a joke. DO NOT TAKE MR. FOX if you are a Nursing major.
Worst teacher you can ever have. His tests are so hard and his lectures are boring. He tries to be funny but he's not.Taking his class is like doing suicide.Don't do it.
Not easy at all. Just show up in class and PRACTICE! He enjoys helping you one-on-one.
Not an easy class, his tests are hard. He expects you to know chemistry so he can only review a couple of things. Easy A if you know this stuff but if you dont know the basic stuff allready dont expect to learn it from him. He doesnt take attendance, he gives homework but does not check it. Grades are based on tests only so teach yourself & study!!
He knows his stuff, but cannot relay it in an effective way. I love chemistry and I hated it while in his class. Cannot lecture in normal terms. Makes everything complicated. DO NOT take him. Out of 44 students 4 passed, including me with a D. The only class I ever got less than a B. I have taken other chemistry classes after him with great prof.
wow wat can i say about Dr. fox, he is jus an excelleny teacher. he made me not to scare of chemistry anymore. i really love his way of teachin. i wish he could teach organics too, i mean he is a very smart guy, they should let him teach organics. hey pupil take this professor u wont regrate it!
Dr.Fox is a good professor, he makes you work hard, but you wont regret it when u realize you actually understand chem.I took him in 6wks.He gives 2 tests=50% and final=50% of ur grade. If u are serious about chem. take him. Be prepared to study hard. Make sure u read the chapters before u go into class. Hard hard work pays off! I got an A!!!
Impt facts of Chemistry: ALL chem classes are hard; it's CHEMISTRY! The 3 tests mentioned below are only for summer classes. Regular term classes have diff syllabi. The ppl who complained mostly were in 1040 which means they don't know jack about chem. Dr. Fox is a really AWSOME teacher. You will learn alot, he is VERY helpful & interesting. TAKE H
Your grade is a reflection of how hard you work not how good a prof is! I took 1046e over a 6 week term and it was not easy. If you watched greys anatomy and decided you wanted to be a Dr. and then took fox and failed dont blame him study harder! I busted my ass and got an A! GROW UP PPL!! He is a great prof. who really cares! No chem class is easy
He is very passionate about what he teaches and it comes across in his teaching style. I would highly recommend taking this professor.
Even though chemistry is really hard, Dr.Fox knows his chemistry and knows how to teach it. I will highly recomend him, even though you have to study hard, promise you will understand chem. To bad he doesn't teach organic...
i hated this class. i wanted to be a zoologist until i met this man. he killed any interest i ever had in science. his final is worth 50% of your grade. i had a B in the class and ended up with a D because of the final. i studied for 2 weeks straight then he had the nerve to say i didnt study for the test. he was a complete ass. bad teacher.
I wonder if he is the one wrinting all this BS about himself because he such as A.S.S...and HE IS THE WORSE TEACHER I EVER HAD> IF YOU WANT TO FAIL..GO HEAD TAKE HIM.but you better have some control drugs prescribe with you...because IT WILL BE PAINFULL...HE IS HORRIBLE.
This guy is a great professor, he knows what he's teaching. If you dnt intend on working for your A, i advised you take someone else; but this guy really knows his stuff and when you leave his class you'll have a different perspective.
Need to keep up with class lec. & homework. Ask questions and make sure it's relevant. Very interesting class, but it is chemistry so either you need it or you don't. Not boring at all, but a lot of facts & formulas needed to be memorized. Best to memorize items he mentions early in the course. Would recommend if you like challenges with support.
He knows what he is teaching "CHEM" and u need to study hard to pass him, its not bad its just how it is. Didnt like how he grades the tests, careless, and points count. If you take him be prepared to learn VERY VERY VERY HARD from the begging. I ended up with 79%, for the final studied for 6 hours per day for 3 days, Final saved my ass from "D".
Horrible professor!!!! Chemistry is hard as it is...Fox will make it three times harder!!!
If you plan on taking this class be prepared to study a whole bunch and just screw up your g.p.a take him. Tests are usually 10 questions no multiple choice. He makes lots of mistakes grading your tests. Good news he give partial credit. Final is like 50% of your grade and it hard.
I took gen chm 2 over the summer in 6 weeks and have to say Fox was the best chem teacher I ever had. My class started with 45 and ended with 12 people. It's chemistry, it's not easy, however, Fox will spend countless hours outside of class to get you to understand the material. I got an A, and was well prepared for Organic 1 & 2.(A's)
He is a no a good professor, he doesnt help you at all. He made a lot mistakes. Be careful
He was a great teacher. He really did make you understand. The test were not too hard but hard enough for chemistry. You do not have to memorize the periodic table :-) You can use the front page of your book on the test.
Horrific Man! I chose him for CHM1041 and could not stand the man. He is ruid to his students and will make you look like an idiot. ITS A CLASSROOM YOU ARE ALLOWED TO ASK QUESTIONS! I only was picked on once by him and that was the last time I went to his class. I dropped it the next day because he made fun of my test grade out loud. DONT TAKE HIM
He is a very nice man, talks alot, likes to teach BUT his tests are insane.... not easy to understand. I LOVE chemisrty and this man almost desroyed it for me!
2 exams(50%)and 1 final(50%) no HW no extra points. He explains a lot but not clear at all. if u kown chm very well, u should fine in his class but if u dont, leave him alone. he would say drop the class if you got C below caus he sure you will fail other exams
...HIS TEACHING SKILLS ARE NOT GREAT!IT'S A REALLY HARD CLASS AND HE DOESN'T MAKE IT EASY AT ALL! HIS TEST ARE REALLY HARD AND EACH OF THEM ARE ON THREE CHAPTERS!!! IF YOU LIKE CHEMISTRY AND LEARN FAST TAKE HIM OTHERWISE DON'T!!! FOR EXAMPLE I HAD "A"'S AT ALL MY TESTS AND A "C" FOR MY FINAL...MY FINAL GRADE WAS A "B" I WAS SO CROSSSED!!!
He is really hard..God forbid you are not a chem major. He does not explain anything clearly, and makes A LOT of mistakes himself on the board, but does not expect you to on his tests..he does not do test reviews of extra credits..or does he prepare anyone for anything. He is awful!
The subject is tough, not the teacher. He explains things good, but it's just a hard subject to comprehend. You must take all the tests (there are 4) and the final. the final is 50% of your final grade BUT most of the final that I took was multiple choice from the 4 chapter tests that we took. So the final was really easy to get an A on.
hahaha awwwe Lewis, what can i say, he lives up to his rep, I could bad mouth this synical loser all day, to be honest his class is hard but its simple at the same time if ya know ya chemestry.I had B in 1040 and 1041, yes i failed lewis But understand there is a high chance of you failing, to sum up lewis teaching skills think (GARBAGE) STAY AWAY.
yOU need to study inorder to get a grade, most kids failed and hated the teacher bc they did not study and failed the test! went after to check my tests and got extra points for finding mistakes! very smart and awesome teacher. i didnt miss a day the class, thats why i passed with an A
RUN AWAY!! If you know what's good for you and want to maintain your GPA don't take him! Huge ego..enjoys the thought of students failing. does not use book. write down every word that he says b/c he doesn't. Even when he does give notes, they are very vague. No hw,not much help. very hard. i studied for 2 weeks on only but his words "study it all"
The worst mistake you will ever make. This guy gave me a zero on a test because he ran out of copies and I wouldn't skip my next classes to go to the testing center. He doesn't realize how hard his class is and just expects you to pick up on everything like it should be common sense.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. He is a horrible teacher. Your grade is based on 3 tests & a final, which is 50% of your grade. He doesn't refer to the book at all & his notes are crap. He puts useless examples on the board. I had to drop him. I got a B in 1040. Take Professor Pocknee.
This class was pretty easy, basic chemistry... The only thing a student needs to do to pass his class is listen to his lecture and write notes. He always took the time to listen and answer any questions and clearify any concerns any student had. I wish I could have had him for CHM 1041.
best chem teacher i've ever had!duh u hav 2 read the book/study 2 understand so if ur not goin 2 invest time dont take this class!the tests were easy i got 100's on all of them and i came in2 his class knowing absolutely nothing abt chemistry. he explains things clearly and its not his fault if students dont have the mental capacity to understand!
All the comments said here have some truth to them. The guy is the BEST chm prof at BCC; but also the hardest to get an A in. the secret is to study his examples. they show up on the test. Do every example as he does it in the class because that is how you succeed. his tests do not entail any surprises. show up to every class and go to his office.
Wonderful teacher. He is very clear and simple. Eventhough 50% of your grad is 3 tests and the other 50% is the final, he does give extra credit on the test. Just take notes, listen, and practice the problems. If you put the work into you will get the grade you desereve.
When a professor's first words to a class are "I want to give you a test as soon as possible so that we can get rid of some people and move to a smaller classroom" you know you're in trouble. I thought he was useless and that the class was a waste of time. Tests are NOT multiple choice. I didn't respect him at all after that first comment.
this class ....
do the homework and you'll be straight , doing the homework gets you prepared for the tests. p.s. TAKE NOTES!!!
Dr. Fox's Chemistry classes can be quite challenging since he expects the best from his students. In order to succeed in his class, you need to make sure you take good notes, actually do the assigned practice problems, and keep yourself motivated. He does a terrific job teaching this difficult subject and can be quite personable.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, unless this is the only class your going to take and you are willing to take the time and invest in ALL in this class dont take this class. also if you want an A in chem dont take this class
Awesome. Do powerpoint, writes notes on board and gives many examples. Test are not that bad. 20% multiply choice and the other is showing your work on a problem, but even if answer is wrong will give partical credit. Take notes and come to class and you'll do fine
He is the best but he's not easy! Your grade is based on how much time you put into it. 50% comes from 3 tests; other 50% comes from final. If you don't put time into practice problems, attendance and note taking, dont take his class. He's a fair grader but you have to know what your doing. GREAT person, he is extremely helpful & very entertaining!
His tests did not reflect his teaching at all read the book
one of the best. Turned me on to Chemistry. Will always remember him! Truly one of the best teachers out there.
I know people say chemistry is hard subject in general which it is but Dr.Fox just makes it that much harder. He expects you to always be on his level and pick up on everything like its nothing and his test are ridiculously hard. There are 3 tests 50% of your grade and a final 50% of your grade. He sucks and he doesn't give audits.
I think he's a great teacher, you don't really use the book except for practice. Which you don't need much of. He's more than willing to explain everything in detail. 3 tests are 50% of your grade, and final is 50%. You have to go to class because his notes are what the test is based on.
chemistry is a hard subject, fox does not make it any easier!3 tests worth 50%,the final is worth 50%;no e.c.He expects when you come to class to already know the material & be on his level. He emphasizes doing the hw and that tests are based on it-bs!I asked for help-his response get a tutor! If your taking fox/or plan to..TRANSFER OR WITHDRAW ASAP!!
The worst teacher ever, dont take him. His tests are really hard, he doesn's curve grades or do anything to help you out.
Do not take him unless you are a chem major. He takes a difficult subject and makes it more difficult. He takes off points on correct answers. 3 tests and the final is worth 50% of your grade. Does not curve.
He is extremely difficult. You may understand whats happening in class, but once the exam is in front of you its a whole new ball game. If it wasnt for the final I would have surely failed the class. If you study the answers from the 3 exams you should do well on the final
fun class, he puts everything up on the board in detailed( sometimes too detailed) sentences. he makes random analogies which could be funny sometimes. he also makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on which is a great help. i would recommend taking him if you have the choice.
Do not take him.test are very hard I wanna tell him he does not teach at havard. I had to get toutor
he is not an easy teacher at all, i have studied extremely hard for this class and is still at a C average. He tires to explain but it doesnt help much sometimes, makes analogies that are not easy to understand. take another prof if possible unless u are really good at chemistry
He doesnt pity anyone. Dont take his class. its hell. especially the final.
50% of your grade is determined from final exam. It is just not right. There should be more exams and quizzes like others professors. Students should have other oppertunities to earn points not just 3 exams in the entire semester. Not right. TOO much material. he is not a bad teacher but could show bias toward some students.
Tends to go too much in detail when talking about certain topics. Wants you to know how they came about but confuses students. Study your tests for the final (is 50% of your grade). If you have trouble with basic algebra you may find the course more difficult. Overall, considering the course, he is a fairly good teacher.
He tries his best but doesnt teach well at all. if u study all 3 test u shld do ok in final but this class is hard esp for ppl like me who isnt good at these things. I studied my butt off anf just got a c and i paid attention in his class too.
please don't take him. explains nicely in class and you might get it. but he kinda warns you already for his tests and how you can possibly fail.....because it's hard. i warn you not to take him. if ur a genius then ok...fine go ahead and taste urself. but if you want a good grade please take any other teacher.
HE IS NOT THAT BAD. I'm not a genius, and I'm currently doing well in his class. The secret to getting an A is practically memorizing his online homework. I did that and got 104 on his test.
If you want an easy A don?t take him, but this is college people. He is excellent in explaining and cares a great deal as long as you do.If u want to pass DO THE HW and attend class! He is always willing to answer questions and help out.GREAT PROFFESOR!
If you want an easy A don?t take him, but this is college people. He is excellent in explaining and cares a great deal as long as you do.If u want to pass DO THE HW and go to class!!!He is always willing to answer questions.GREAT PROFFESOR!
I'm so glad this nightmare is over. He is VERY picky with points, often marking the whole problem wrong for little mistakes, and doesn't even teach most of the material tested on the multiple choice, which is why people do so bad on tests. Many of the HW problems have errors in solutions which makes it difficult to practice with them as he instruc
Wow that kid who wrote he got a 104 was the biggest nerd ever and extremely annoying so don't listen to him. expect to get a B or C in this class
Look its not supposed to be easy. He is a good professor and care about you "learning & retatining" your stuff. If you dont skip, do you homework, and take good notes you dont even need to open the book. test are straight out of the homework problems, and the final is a mix of past test questions... Do your part youl do well, if not check out MCeed
Terrible teacher. Complete waste of time. I would give anything to have gotten another professor or dropped his class. Do not take him for any class.
No matter how pissed you are that you failed, you cannot deny that this teacher is one of the best teachers in central campus. The material is difficult, but the teacher is not. He makes everything VERY CLEAR. You have to put in your effort if you want to pass the class. A good grade is not going to land on your lap.
I've taken him 3 times. If you want to pass, follow these rules: Never miss a class. Take detailed notes. Keep up with the work. Do the homework problems SEVERAL times. -- If you do that then you're sure to get at least a B :) He's very funny, Very entertaining, and a very good teacher. You just have to do your part as the student.
Literraly he stand up infront of the class and lectures the whole class. He writes his notes on the boards and makes it easy to pay attention. Tests are really hard he gives partial credit and extra credit on tests but no more then 10 pts extra credit. Be prepared to do alot of homework because course work is hard and his tests are harder.
Can't deny he is a very good teacher! Very few teachers really work hard for the students to understand. Chemistry is hard so you have to pay attention. Tests are hard but do your homework...Have to give credit because he tries his best for the students to understand...i worked my asz off and got a B, but it was difficult.
Very good teacher, I highly enjoyed his class and going. Makes small jokes that help you to remember things. The downfall was Quantum Mechanics, he could have talked Japanese and I would have understood the same material. Go to every class.
Very difficult class. Homework and notes still don't make the subject clear enough to make it through the tests. I had a 4.0 GPA and this was my last class for my degree. I got a C, and that's with studying and attending all classes. Nice man, but I prefer Prof. Madea.
He expects all students to know the information before hand. Out of 40 students only 3 passed the class. Most of the information he lectures, is not on the exam. The only way you can pass the class is by first, be a chemist, read the entire book a few times, and even then you are most likely going to fail the exam. By far the worst proffesor!
I liked Prof. Fox so much after 1040, that I took him again for 1041. He does not hand out easy grades, but if you do the online problems (with answers he provides), and go to class, it's very easy to pass. I will continue with him for all chemistry classes, he made it easy for me. The final is just questions from the previous tests..
I walked in on the first day of lecture and immediately after dropped his class and got a refund. He was very cynical and negative. He makes a already difficult subject more difficult. Asking questions like if the suns temp. is 10 megakelvins convert it to F and C. My major is nursing none of my patients will have a temperature of megakelvins!
Know's his stuff, but expects you to know everything before you enter the class too. He makes it VERY difficult to pass the class and he's extremely inaccessible.
I took Fox twice. The first time I really thought the class was horrendous. The second time I realized you just have to attend all lectures and do the Q&A he posts on his website. Always ask questions!
YOU MUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK. NEVER FALL BEHIND IN IT. It's not collected, but that is how your pratice for the tests. There are 4 tests. 3 are worth 50% of your grade and the final is worth the other 50%. Fox is a great teacher, but you REALLY need to work if you want to pass. I needed 3 points to pass his class with a C & pratcially had to beg for i
BEST CHEM PROFESSOR!!! Really knows his stuff, but above all, knows how to explain it. Highly recommended. Be sure to do the hw, this will make your grade! Its how I got my A. Oh, and he's really nice/easy going. His class was a lot of fun as well
He's awesome. I took this class as a transient student and it really helped. You have to go to class everyday and he doesnt take attendance. Only take this class if you have the time to devote to it. He has homework problems all online so you wouldnt need a book. Writes all the notes on the board too. Overall really good class.
not at all a good professor, i was on the very few who passed the course, you only learn how to do his homework, and nothing more. if you want to actually learn chemistry take someone else like abassi at south or labine north/central you will have a higher grade and you will do better on std'ized tests(mcat, dat, pcat, etc...) Dr. fox is useless
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW WAS HIS TEST FOR test 2 and test 3 FOR CHM1046?
CHM1045 is a very, very difficult class. It doesn't matter who you take it with. But this guy is a whole lot of fun. He loves chemistry so much he makes you love chemistry. Unfortunately only about 20% of the class is passing currently, but that's because of the difficulty of the material. If you're not a chem major, take 1040 and 1041.
Awesome professor! HE makes the class interesting for all and he stops and asks questions to make sure everyone understands what he's talking about. He'll do extra examples if you ask him to and answers any question you have whether it's before, after or during class. Tip to do well: DO THE HOMEWORK. I didn't study my notes/read the book. Got an A!
This was my second time taking a class with Dr.Fox, and it was because this guy REALLY knows how to teach. Simple, clear, and to the point. Also, his final is worth 50% of your final grade, which can really help you out. I got a 69 on exam 1, did really well on fianl, and got the A. You'll learn a lot. By far the best professor I've had at BC.
Fox is probably one of the most comprehensive chem teachers at BC Central. I got an F, but only because I failed to do his online homework problems. If you do them, and actually go to and pay attention to class, then an A will be easy to achieve. 4 tests total; 3 average to 50% of the grade, the final test is cumulative, and worth the other 50%.
Great professor. Dr. Fox really knows what hes talking about, and can teach it clear. just do the homework and you'll be fine. he takes questions right out of it and puts them on the test. Gives partial credit on the test as well. if you want to pass i suggest you get into a study group with the people in your class.
He really knows his stuff off his head... No textbook use just listen in class and do the homework for the parts your not confident on and you'll get an A or B.. its that simple.
Dr. Fox is knowledgeable and actually cares about teaching. However, just because you attend every lecture and do the practice problems multiple, does not mean you will get an A or even a B. I know people in my study group who worked their butts off and got C's and D's. Good news though, if you do well on the final, you can pass the course.
Teacher in every sense of the word! Inspired me and made me love chem! Great personality! 100% clear! I'm never throwing out the notes I took in his class. If you don't do the optional HW, you probably won't pass his tests. Sometimes puts hw questions word for word on tests. The more I studied the better I did. Take him if your major is a science!
Cool guy. However, his inability to competently write tests and homework examples really weighs down his competence. Tries to be of assistance, but was never clear. I earned a B in his class, STRUGGLING. I retook the course with another professor. Passed with an overall grade of 99%. Just to depict that I'm not a slacker.
I took Dr. Fox for CHM1045 & failed the course. His notes come straight out of his head, he doesn't use the textbook. He gives way too much hw & none of it ever makes sense. It will take you hours to complete & then when you take the test it's nothing like his HW! I re-took the course w/ a different prof & got a "B". DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Great teacher. Very interesting, his notes are not easy but straight forward. I took his class in a weeks term and i learned much more than my entire high school science classes. If you really want learn something and have a fundamental knowledge of chemistry, i highly recommend you take his class.
Its a difficult course but he makes it fun. His homework is worth nothing but you better do it as many times as possible considering that thats the way you study for the exams. He makes class fun and entertaining. I would reccomend this professor to anyone taking any chemistry
Great Professor. If you want to know Chemistry, take him. If you just need Chemistry credit and aren't really all that interested in the material, take somebody else. Dr. Fox knows the subject matter so well he doesn't need a book to lecture. Take notes, and do all of the homework. Don't procrastinate. It requires a lot of hours to complete.
It wasn't an easy A by all means, but if you take good notes, ask questions, and do the homework, you can make it happen. No book used, he writes an outline of notes every class period. Impossible to catch up if you miss a day. VERY smart guy. He wants you to get the material down, but you have to work for it. I'd take him again!
"If you want an easy A go somewhere else. If you want to learn stay here" his words exactly. The man taught at Harvard for a while so if you're dedicated and manage your time well he'll be good for you. He is not easy and you might want to go the the tutoring center a couple times a week to stay on track. DO NOT FALL BEHIND.
He is a good professor, the class itself is a lot of work. I took this class with Bio and Bio Lab along with Speech and that was not a good idea. I work full time and there just wasn't enough time in the day to study for this course. I recommend the professor, just make sure you have the time. TONS of time. You'll be studying a lot.
If you're a Science Major, take him you will learn a lot!! i was not and he was hard as hell, so i had to switch out of his class. only because i didnt have him for chm1040 and i was lost for 1041. if i had him for 1040 i would of stayed.
This Professor is Awesome!!! He really knows Chemistry, and he really knows how to break down the material for you to understand the basics. It is not an easy A, but if you do the homework at least twice and go to every class (like you suppose to)You will do just fine!! I highly recommend Professor fox :)
Hes a pretty chill guy, he comes in and lectures very down to earth. Lectures are pretty boring though, but are helpful if u come to class and pay attention. I didnt really pay attention the times i showed up but i just did the hw a few times and pulled out with a borderline A! not impossible to get an A but not an easy A!
Prof. Fox is an awesome teacher. He teaches well and clearly. There are homework assignments online for each section. Do the homework, no book required! Only 4 tests are graded, challenging but if you put in the work you will do well and LEARN the material. I STRONGLY recommend him especially if you're a Chemistry major.
Great professor!Lecture isn't fun but he explains very well. Practice, practice, practice the homework and you will do well on the exams. But start on the homework early before its a lot. He gives 3 exams (50% of your grade) and a final exam (50%). The final exam was easy. For the final exam just study the old 3 exams and you will get an A.
Dr. Fox is an extremely inciteful professor who knows what he is talking about. He truly wants his students to succeed. I didn't do too well on the first exam, but ended up with an A. This class is no joke, but if you do the homework at least twice, and read your notes, you will be fine. Dr. Fox is the best chem professot at Broward College.
If you can spend 12+ hours a week doing the assignments and reading and doing his in class problems, you will do well. Challenging and demanding professor.
He is a great professor and is very knowledgeable and if you are serious about learning, take him. Make sure you have enough time to do HW and study, because it requires a lot of it!!
To be honest, I completely bombed his first test. But I passed with an A. This class will challenge you, he is one of the smartest men I have ever met. I decided to put in the hard work and take notes & study hours a day. He knows his chemistry. If you do the homework, study a couple hours a week, and don't give up, you will get an A like I did
A really great professor! It certainly is not a joke course, but if you put work in, it's not hard to get an A or a B. He is incredibly good at chemistry and has a knack for explaining even very complex things in a simply manner. He'll love you if you laugh at his jokes too!
Wonderful professor. He will break the material down so simply even with little or no interest understanding the material should be a cinch. He assigns a lot of practice work. None of it is graded but his tests use problems from the homework exactly as they are so doing them is advised. Final is just all of his tests so its super easy to study for
Great Teacher! He explains everything throughly and will answer any question you may have clearly. I love his analogies they make it easy to remember concepts and he really knows his stuff. The test are a bit hard but its not unpassable; just do the homework and you should be fine.
I took him for CHM1045 and CHM1046. I got Bs in both classes. He is a nice and helpful professor. I also find him very funny. You will understand the material that he teaches but his exams are kind of difficult. They are based on what he covers in class. He gives a lot of homework/practice questions that he doesn't grade but is helpful for tests.
Prof Fox is the best in my opinion, so what if he makes you work for your grade You need to if you want to advance. He explains concepts clearer than a crystal glass. He is the best and I am taking him again for CHM1041
Don't get me wrong professor fox is a genius. He does his lectures straight from his head and he really gets down to the details. But its so hard to stay focused on what he's explaining while you're writing. He expects you to know a lot and he doesn't do good with answering the students questions in class. Best of luck to you
He's a smart and funny man. Tests arent too bad, except for the multiple choices, because he wont teach a lot of them and most of them are in the book. But you dont really need a book as long as you take good notes and practice your homework.
He outlines everything for you and tells you WHY things are done, so you can understand concepts better. Three tests, and a final worth 50% of your grade is everything. You'll have little trouble if you actually do the homework!!! Final is based on the 3 tests, which he gives a key for afterwards. Study test keys and pass the final easy!!!!
Dr. Fox is very smart. I found the final exam difficult which is 50% of your grade. Mr. Fox takes days to go over what equation to use. Takes very long to get to the point and waits last minute to give the last two test.I would not recommend Mr. Fox because of his teaching style. Many tutors hated when I asked for help because Mr. Fox was so hard
Dr. Fox is a brilliant professor ! All of his lectures come right from his head, though he sometimes used his website to show some pictures. His website has a BUNCH of homework and he does not test you on anything he hasn't taught/ was not in the homework. HIGHLY recommend!
SUCH a good guy and teacher. You have to word for your grade, but it's SO worth it!!
This profesor will teach you more than you could imagine, he is the best if you are looking for deep info. He is also the hardest.
I passed with an A but i worked my butt off. Half of the students didn't do so good. This class is not for you if you plan on slacking. I never had any high school chemistry so i was advised to take this class. The teacher would frustrate me because he assumes we all had some prior chemistry knowledge from high school. He is a cool guy though.
Show up, pay attention, and do the homework and you're guaranteed a B or an A. He's an excellent lecturer and has a good sense of humor.
3 tests, and 1 final that is 50% of your grade. 9 problem and 20 mc with 1 extra credit to complete in 30 min. Does not give extra credit outside the test, does not drop lowest test grade, and no curve. Lectures are written and explained on the board (not powerpoint). 1 hour, 4x week office hours. No textbook or online chemistry required.
I am very picky about who I take as a professor and I can honestly say that I love Dr. Fox! He is an exceptional teacher and I wish he could teach all of my other classes. The man knows what he's talking about, and writes notes that you copy. As long as you do the practice problems online and memorize your notes, you're guaranteed an A or B.
This class was tough. Not going to sugar coat it, but as long as you do his assigned practice problems you should be OK. His grading is based on 3 tests which account for 50% and a final that 50%. The final was really easy, all you have to do is study the 3 tests. I had a 71% average after I took the 3 test and after the final I ended up with a B
This guy over here his really bad, he wants you to walk in his class from the first day that the class begins knowing your stuff which is ridiculous, because the fact of taking the class its to learn. Do not take this guy for chemistry he's going to make your semester horrible and you do not want to deal with professors like that. save headaches!
Only talks about the problems doesn't actually show you how to do the problems. I would never take his class again.
Exceptional professor & teacher! Actually TEACHES you chemistry, not like others who simply show Powerpoints. Writes & explains what you need to know from the text on the board. Shows you how to do the problems. Always in officeclass to answer questions. Hw used as a study guide (not graded). 3 tests, 1 cumulative final (based on 3 tests-easy).
He is a very good teacher to say the least. Will make you work for your grade on test. Attendance is a must in his class. Tests are hard.
He gives detailed notes from which tests derive. Online homeworks cover lecture material and must be done to succeed in course even though they are not collected or graded. He allowed adequate time for all three tests and final. Final was derived from three tests basically. Must consistently study lectures and do homework to succeed in course.
He is not an easy A. He requires a lot of time and effort but if you do the homework problems over and over you will do great. I ended up with a 102 in his class but I spent hours upon hours working on the homework problems.
The best professor to teach you Chem.,and I have seen many. He explains in simple terms and writes all on board! You NEED to really understand Chem1 to go on to Chem2 and Organic. You will need to devote everyday to doing the problems over and over, and got to his office to have him explain concepts. Your hard work WILL pay off for Organic.
He is an incredible teacher who will help if you ask. His tests are average, but the material itself is difficult and requires a lot of study time. The homework is harder than the tests are, so if you understand the homework then you're set for the exams. No need for the textbook. Knows his stuff and is funny and humble. Definitely recommend.
Lectures are Engaging. NO EXTRA CREDIT. You'll have 3 tests and final. You have to know Chem 1. Gives out practice problems which are similar to tests. DO THE PROBLEMS, YOU WILL NOT PASS IF YOU DON'T! NO FORMULA SHEETS. ALL MEMORIZATION. Material not easy, lots of Algebra and Stoichiometry. Final is cumulative of previous tests. Would take again!
Tough Tough Tough. Only worth it if you are a chemistry major and have to know every little detail. He really took his time to explain the material would definitely recommend him to aspiring chemists and pharmacists.
Honestly. He is very knowledgeable however not the best at explaining. He gives out review questions before the tests-doesn't go over it. Tests are very hard, few people pass them. I study soo much and i still haven't gotten a B on any so far. Basically one of the toughest classes because of his tests & I got 105% in chem one. WOULD NOT TAKE AGAIN.
Smart professor and the best part is he actually teaches. 3 test worth half your grade but he gives you a really easy final thats half your grade. To depict how easy the final was I had a C, A, C on his tests and an A in the final for an A overall. Make sure you check for mistakes on tests thats really what got me those Cs. Recommended if smart
He doesn't do office hours but he'll help you before or after class starts. The tests are a piece of cake if you do the homework and his lectures are basically chemistry concepts followed by problems you'll have to solve. He's always willing to answer questions in class and he tells you exactly what you need to know. He's a real straightshooter.
Such an amazing and wonderful professor. Fox is very knowledgeable and you can tell he has a passion for Chemistry. Grades consists of three tests which are 50% of your total grade and a cumulative final that's also 50%. As long as you do the practice problems, the tests are fairly easy. Provides great examples and made a hard subject fairly easy.
Awesome teacher! He really helped my understand the basics of chemistry to get me prepared for what's coming next. Highly recommended. If you do his online homework and study the notes, you'll definitely pass!
Fox is a brilliant professor, his lectures are amazing and really straight to the point with what you need to know. DO THE ONLINE PROBLEMS as they are harder than the tests but a lot of those problems can be found on tests. Got a D, C , A on my 3 tests and an A on the final and finished with a B.
Professor fox is truely a professional in his field. Is very very knowledgeable in what he teaches. Will teach you everything down to who first came up with the theory. He is a very good professor. I would recommend .
Very good professor, taught chemistry like a conversation !!!! You must do the homework even though its not for a grade but it really helps. Ask any questions that you have, he will definitely answer them.
Hes great sometimes, but its tough. And he just talks and talks, makes you feel stupid when you ask a question.
If you decide to take him, you HAVE to put in 10 hours of studying a week like he says. The material is complex & you really only have your notes to study from. There are only 3 tests & a final & thats it. Make sure you do all the practice problems and seek extra help if you need it. Not an easy professor nor an easy class, but definitely doable
I can tell you right now don't take this class if you have a busy life. This class was the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. He only gives 3 Test so if you fail the first test there's basically no way of you passing the class. Can't make it up with homework because he dosen't give any
He's a really good professor. This is my second time taking chemistry and hands down he's way better then most of the other chem professors . Everything on the test are on the reviews, just different wording and numbers. You just have to study, and you will pass.
He changed chemistry for me, it's really hard work but if you memorize the reviews, you can do really well on the exam. Try to get old exams, they're near identical. Amazing!
Only lectures doesn't teach very well
I am an A student. I do understand that chemistry is a difficult subject matter to being with. This class is ridiculous. I had to withdrawal because there was no way I was going to pass. I would not take him again. Do not take unless you can teach yourself.
Dr. Fox is awesome! He's very knowledgeable in chemistry, but also good at breaking everything down so it's easy to understand. The tough part about this class is that the only grades are the 3 tests and the final. It's intimidating but the online practices are great preparation for the tests! Pay attention and understand the topics & it's not bad!
Lectures are great! He's very passionate and knowledgeable about chemistry and tries to break it down for you as easy as possible. You do have to put in a lot of work yourself as well and do your own readings aside from the lectures - fast paced. Tough grading: 50% average of 3 tests and 50% final. You have to put in a lot of time for this class!
He knows the subject really well, but does not give you any chances to buffer your grades. The class only consisted of 3 tests (no curves) and a final which counts for 50% of your grade. Does not drop lowest test scores or provide you with any reviews for the tests. It is a hard class to pass. Take another professor if you're looking to pass.
To those of you who say that he can't teach, you are laying to yourself. His lectures are outstanding like no other teacher. And if you don't understand the lecture he persuades you to ask questions. Yes he doesn't grade homework. But instead will give you 4 test total (final included) from those homework packets and they do really help.
Fox is a very good professor. He teaches very crearly and makes chemistry easy. Tests are not hard and gives 10 pt extra credit on all of the. You do have to study because there no drops or anything. 3 tests worth 50 % and the final worth 50%
Dr. Fox is a Great Teacher. You will have to work but that's for any college course. You have to do the homework and study the notes cause the test questions come from the HW. The test are not hard as long as you do the homework and study. For those that say he is tough, more than likely didn't put in the time to study.
Great professor. Fox makes you work for your grade. Make sure to do the HW course packs on his website and you will definitely pass. His tests are not easy unless you are prepared. This is college and the subject is chemistry, you should not be looking for an easy A. Again great professor.
Professor Fox is a brilliant person. Chemistry is not an easy subject and neither is his class. He's officially the first class I've ever failed. If you are willing to give 110% then go for it, otherwise pick another professor!!! Only 3 test and Final make up your grade. If you fail the first test theres such a slim chance of passing. 0/10
This professor really breaks down everything. There is online hw that is not graded but will help you on the tests. The tests are the only grades for the class. Chemistry is not an easy course with any professor it comes down to practice and doing hw problems
Professor Fox really takes his time to explain each lesson and is there to help. There are HW problems to do online that will help you be prepared for the tests. The HW is not graded but it is a must if you want to pass. Just like any math class you need to practice problems to get better at it. Great professor!
Dr. Fox is brilliant, Im just not sure he knows how to relay information well(teach). There are no quizzes, homework or book assigned. Just three tests and a final. In lecture he will give notes and a couple examples but on the test there are so many more different problems he doesn't go over in class. Had a 4.0 my whole college career until this F
Professor Lewis class is the best. He gives plenty practice problems online and during class which prepare you for the tests and he explains very detailed, just make sure to ask questions if you're confused. Don't skip lectures and do the homework it will safe you. STUDY!!!
Do not take him. this was the worst prof i've taken for chemistry and he does not know how to teach. what you learn in class is pointless, because it is not on the test. you do the homeworks, but there are so many questions. the ones you don't look at will be on the test.
Dr. Fox is the best chemistry teacher I have ever had. He really takes the time to write and explain everything in a way that is understandable. You are only graded on tests, there are practice problems as homework but not graded. This is not an easy A or a class you can cram for but when you finish the course you will have actually learned chem!
Nice professor, takes the time to explain complicated concepts. Don't miss his classes and absolutely do the homework , it will help you pass the exam. I got an A and learned chem. Definitely recommed
Dr. Fox made me love chemistry. He has cheesy dad jokes and makes the subject interesting. His "homework" (is optional) is found online, on his page. He is absolutely wonderful and you can clearly see the passion he has for his career. Yes, chemistry is a tough subject and yes you will have to work for it.
Knows a lot about chemistry but not good at teaching it, he doesn't have patience for students that are having trouble understanding it and make you feel stupid for asking questions, and the homework that is assigned is nothing like the test.
Very difficult class. If you don't study from the get-go you wont pass. He knows his stuff but makes it difficult to understand. He says "I dont expect genius from you guys" yet does not allow notes for the test for students like me that struggle to remember every concept of everything taught. Would not recommend.
lol he has only 3 tests and if you fail one just drop the class, doesnt do audits and I feel like he misses some things he's a funny dude and will make lecture interesting but you have to research and study a lot on your own, pretty decent answering questions but lecture heavy af with optional hw, if you wanna pass, do the hw
Dr. Fox is an amazing Chem teacher. If you do his online packets than you will get an A on the test. If you miss his class than you wont pass because he teaches the information well. I hate chemistry and this was my second time taking it and I got an A. I learned a lot.
Dr. Fox is intimidating but despite what he says his class isnt hard. He gives great notes so u dont need the textbooks and he teaches everything that will be on the test with great examples. If u do the packets (optional) and study you will pass with an A. You must attend lectures because he goes over a lot in one class. But he sets u up to pass
This guy is amazing! The only reason you would fail is because you dont study. 3 tests and 1 final(worth 50%). Right now I have a C because i got 2 D's and an A on the first 3 tests. (BECAUSE I DIDNT STuDY) So sad he isnt teaching 1041 next semester. ALL the tests are 110% .You have a chance even if you're failing. I still have a chance for an A
Professor Fox is a really fun and great teacher. Although the material can be difficult, he gives study guides for every test that are extremely helpful (do them and you will pass.) There is no textbook or online notes, you have to attend class to learn the material.
Considering Dr. Fox writes out notes on the board tbh all you really need to do to pass his class is go to class copy down and try to understand whats on the board and do the hw sometime before the test to review and reinforce everything and youll breeze through the class.
Dr. Fox is legit! Chemistry is hard, and the only way youll be good at it is by practicing, studying, and asking questions. Fox posts his HW packets online. Do them until you get it all correct and you will be fine. What you get out of your time with him is dependent on how much you put into it. Hes funny and knows his stuff! I recommend him!
Three tests and the Final. Online ''homework" optional, but helps you out a ton. He has absolutely amaing lectures. Never wanted to leave his class! I struggled at first because you need to learn the metric system a bit, and i had ZERO experience with it. (Easy to learn it you take the time.) Taking the final I brought my C up to an A! YES!
He is hilarious and has amazing lectures. He knows his chemistry but makes you study for it. His homework is optional but just like the test. He only has 3 test and a final and procrastinated quite a bit. All 3 test were taken during the last half of the semester. He is a smart guy and expects you to do the homework. (Please do the homework)
Amazing and knowledgeable instructor
I am taking him now and I know I DID NOT pass his class. However, that is fully my fault. Dr Fox is amazing and he will explain and explain until everybody understands the subject. Put in the amount of time that is needed and you will pass this class! DO NOT MISS CLASSES! He is amazing Professor who makes chem fun.
Go to class. Take notes. Review his homework problems and you should be fine. He's a great teacher. You learn a lot off real world applicable knowledge as well. He's funny if you have a sense off humor. Tests are fair but can't be a surprise if you do the homework
Dr. Fox is an interesting professor. He has a Ph.d in Marine Studies and a Masters in natural science. He certainly knows his stuff but it has always been unclear to me whether or not he understands thats student don't know chemistry or he's just making haste to make sure we cover every topic. In short, he moves quick and is smart but unaccessible.
This class was the hardest class Ive ever taken but I learned SO MUCH. If youre just looking for a science credit, then go elsewhere. But if youre a science major or intend on going to grad school, then this is your dude. He will get you ready for advanced chem and beyond. Its alot of work, but it is SO worth it if youre a science major.
3 tests and a final worth most of the grade (all same format). You NEED to attend lecture. He doesnt require the book b/c he provides extensive outlines in class as he teaches. There is optional homework with TONS of practice problems but I highly recommend doing it. If ucan do the homework u can do the tests. Hes a big help and explains well!
Professor Lewis does a great job at explaining the course content and details. In order to pass, you need to pay attention and take copious notes. The homework is not graded but some of the same questions appear on the test verbatim or with different numbers. There are three tests worth 50% of your grade and a final that is cumulative and worth 50%
Fox is interesting. He's very intelligent and teaches the base of the material well. However, he will NOT teach you everything in the homework. And you NEED to do the HW to pass to the tests. Don't take if you're busy or not motivated enough to teach yourself things. He says you need 10 hrs a week to study, and he is right. Great for STEM students.
By now you most likely need Chem, so Dr. Fox is awesome! He teaches well and if you pay attention you'll learn a lot and by the end of the class, you can handle any Chemistry problem. Once you do the homework you'll do great on the tests. He gives extra credit questions for each test. TAKE him! His Class is very entertaining, never boring.
Genuinely one of the best teachers I've had in my college career! You can tell that he cares not only about his students but about the subject he's teaching. Attendance is optional, and there isn't homework, but if you care about your grade you'll do the practice problems and show up to the lecture. Only had 3 tests and the final!
this professor is very hard on grading. if youre into chem like that then take good notes. there are 4 tests, 3 are normal and count for half of your grade. the final counts as the other half. he will teach you everything you need but its on you to study. i barely passed
if you are not a good test taker do not take him... no homework !!!! just 4 tests thats all.. really nice professor but god that class was a nightmare.
Fox is one of the best out there he actually teaches and goes over many examples during lecture. He does not use powerpoints and teaches on the white board MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND CLASS!!!! attendance is not mandatory but to pass this class it will play a role. he gives 3 exams and a final worth 50% of your grade. NO JOKE! need to put in hours to pass
You will not find a better prof. than Fox. PERIOD! All lectures are hand written on the board so you can follow along with him as he speaks. No phoney professor that uses "powerpoint". Encourages you to visit office hours if you need more help. He is genuine and amazing! Chemistry is not EASY so don't expect to not work for your A!
Honestly, I thought this class was going to be a lot more difficult from what Ive heard. The class is pretty easy if you understand the topics and study. He really does have a passion for chemistry, and the lectures are interesting. Even though attendance is not mandatory, I recommend to still attend every class.
Hes a good teacher he gives 3 test and a final which is worth 50% of your grade , and a big tip to pass his exams are what ever problems he gives as examples during lecture is going to be on the test I got an B my scores were 96,55,87 and 94 on the final
Summer - must take! Caring, clear, patient. Always willing to answer questions. Doesn't expect you to know any chem. Writes EVERYTHING on board. Tests reflect hwk, no surprises. Must do hwk and not wait to last minute. If keep up with hwk, you will have the chance to ask him what you're confused about BEFORE the test. Lots of extra credit.
the test questions are straight from the homework (not required to do). he is really good on explaining topics and answering questions in great detail. he wants to see you succeed in his class. plus he's a funny and chill professor. always ask questions if you're confused don't be afraid!!
Amazing professor. Basically writes his own textbook with the notes he gives so go to class. Super great explanations. Do the practice questions before each test, read your notes, and you're set.
I retook chem1045 with him over the summer and he was just AMAZING. I'm not a chem person, and he just made everything SO CLEAR and simple. His tests were super fair, most of the questions were literally the reviews. After failing chem with Prof. Stacy-Ann I was able to get a 95 on the final with him. Im definitely taking him again
He made learning chemistry fun! Do the homework and you will pass the class with an A!
I would not recommend.
Professor Fox is a great teacher. He obviously knew his subjects and tries to explain it easily. He doesn't require the textbook, and, as long as you do the online work on his website you can get an A! Definitely recommended!
Dr. Fox is a great professor. He knows a lot and his lectures are fun. The only grades in class were 3 tests and 1 final. My grades on the tests were B, A, A, then A on the final. His notes are exactly the questions on the test. Chem isnt easy. Take good notes. HW is optional but I always did them for practice. I will def be taking him for chm1046.
This professor really knows his material, and makes his in-person lectures interesting. When switched to remote learning, he just posted his lectures through his website. Three tests are worth 50% of your grade, and the final is also 50%, which can sometimes not benefit others.
I took this professor for CHM1045 and got an A. He is a decent professor for live lecture if you put in the work, the majority of his problems come straight from his lectures/homework. Once he switched to remote learning he posted no live lectures. Only text about how to do the problems as if you already know what you're doing.
He was a good professor until we went remotely. We had to teach ourselves from his notes ,because once were we affected by covid he did not teach one lesson. I would take him for in person classes , but never online. He did curve exams. Our only contact with him during covid was via e-mail.
If ur reading this and corona is done for, I highly recommend him. His lectures are amazing, always available during office hours, and explains really well. ur grade consists of four tests, but thats with every chm teacher here .but dont take during corona. His 'lectures' consist of incomprehensible notes online and u can only talk to him viaemail
Amazing teacher and friendly and open to answer your questions. There is optional hw but DO IT. All the questions are similar to the tests. The only grades you get are from 3 tests and the final. The controversy with him comes from when we went online. Only communication is through email-had to teach myself by his notes. In person-yes online-no
Take him for in class he is the best! For online however i would not suggest. Do the hw it's basically the tests. Had his class half in class and half online cause of corona. Online tests caused great stress and some wrong answers on tests but if it's in person it's a no brainer.
professor fox if you are reading this please actually take the time to lecture online on platforms like zoom or bb collaborate you are an amazing teacher when you're actually teaching!! please dont be lazy!!! broward college should really make real time lecturing mandatory....
Because of Covid-19, I took half semester in person and half online. In person, Prof. Fox is awesome. His lectures are clear and he is always willing to answer all your questions. Online, however, it is very hard. He didn't do real time lecturing but instead made us read long pages of content that were hard to understand.
Thanks to Dr. Fox I found a drive in myself I never knew before. His Chemistry class showed me I had what it takes to succeed. Thanks to you I just graduated with my bachelors in Marine Biology, Duel major of Interdisciplinary studies AND Minor in CHEMISTRY from FIU. Thank you Dr. Fox, you inspired me to find my way and believe in myself.
best teacher I had in BC, he will answer every question you have about chem even if it does not have to do with the immediate subject, this however is a very hard class, but as long as you do what he says on the homework, you will be fine, if you miss a lecture however, it can be devastating. just pay attentio and do the homework. you will get an A
THIS CLASS IS JUST TESTS. He knows how to teach chemistry. You NEED to be there for every lecture and UNDERSTAND what hes teaching. ASK QUESTIONS! If your major is chem heavy, you should take this class. honestly, if you aren't in the STEMS field, you should look else where. He is my favorite Professor from BCC, ATM, TAKE THIS CLASS IN PERSON!!!!
