he makes you get into groups and discuss - doesn't teach at all
Freemen is without a doubt the worst teacher i've ever had in my entire life.
the worst teacher ive had. almost made me change my major
give him some credit... IMAGINE THAT: A TEACHER WHO ACTUALLY WANTS YOU TO THINK!!

Freeman is horredous and is a spiteful man who is totally full of ****. Dont take him. He should not be around in the first place
not THAT bad. very challenging
He is definitly the weirdest man on the entire planet. And he gave pop quizzes! What the hell is that? This isn't Fordham High School...
don't do it.
be prepared for anything you say to be twisted into his interpretation....you get to make a name tag too
tries to be things that he is not.
Stay away Stay far far Away!
There is not much organization to his class and you don't learn much. He is very skeptical about everything and there is a good amount of reading at times.
all i have to say is run as fast as u can...i litterally slept through this class..he is as unfair as he is boring..and the light always bounces off his head..very distracting..dont take him unless u like low grades.
Horrendous is not even the word. Should not even be a teacher at Fordham. God have mercy on his sole. Please do not take. Please
Ok. everyone that has rated him so far has hardly given the guy a chance. Sure, he needs help communicating what he knows with students in a more energetic and fun way, but he's probably one of the most intelligent profs I've had! You gotta do the work!

As Comic Book Man on the Simpsons would say...worst...professor...EVER. How Fordham keeps this man on their payroll is beyond me. As a person, he's not bad. But as a professor...he's the worst thing on earth.
Don't take this class with this man... he gives terrible advice!! He hasn't worked in the business and therefore it is unfair that they have him advising students about their internships in it. HE REALLY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.
Not a fan! Plan on teaching more than u learn, cuz he's constantly saying "tell me sumthin bout..." and "so what else?"... and u wanna say I DUNNO U TELL ME, U r the teacher moron! Didn't learn much, was very bored, and he reminds me of the teacher on Clueless...
THE MOST BORING CLASS AT FORDHAM!! I didn't learn a DAMN THING in that class. He was so boring, and kept us the entire time for NO REASON other than to hear himself talk. I hate the phrase "So how are your internships." Easy A, but you will DIE if you intern all day and then go there.
Professor Freeman is one of the smartest, on-target professors I have had. If you work hard and get involved in class discussions you will learn a lot!
He is tough there is no question about that. But it's a pretty enjoyable challenge. The TV class is interesting and there are some good discussions. Definitely worth taking.
um...nice ties..
One of the best Comm professors in the department! Not the easiest class but very interesting and definitely worth it. VERY helpful as well. Great advisor too!
Wow...never a more boring teacher at Fordham. You read the chapter and he asks about it and then "what else" Classes are mandatory and absolutely useless but he gives a lot of pop quizes so you have to be there. Long term paper that he doesn't help with at all. Stay away!
Cool guy.Not to much work. He's very smart and very helpful. Totally recommend him.
very helpful and approachable, will go out of his way to make sure you understand material. take him, so nice.
If you want to learn how to become a good speaker this class is excellent. The mere repetition of speech helps a ton but also the pointers from Freeman give you great new thoughts about speaking. I feel so comfortable speaking in front of big or small crowds now. I really reccommend this class.
great guy.
this guy is the man...easy to approach out of class...will go out of his way to help you...even offered me an extra credit assignment IF i did poorly on final...sometimes unclear but, hey, your not gonna learn anything is its all handed to you on a silver platter...
A great professor. Take his class.
Had him for children & the media- really easy class- we just talked about our childhoods most of the time and the actual information we learned was pretty interesting. great class- take it.
Easliy the worst professor I've ever had. Approaches topics with questions like "So, who here watches television?" and follows that thread for at least half an hour. Puts seemingly no effort into preparing for class and makes you pointlessly discuss in small groups while he (most of the time unsuccessfully) roams the internet for helpful examples.
Gives the impression that he's a substitute teacher, and we're waiting for the main event to return and take over. Wants to talk about fluff and nonsense, and springs everyone along. Take him if you're not interested in learning, but merely want some easy credits. Attend classes, though, for the pop quizzes. Flatter him, and you're IN.
Professor Freeman is nice and cares a lot about his students. If you try, you will do well, and the pop quizzes aren't bad at all. The class content seems tedious at times, but it's interesting. Take him!
get ready for the annoying tracking paper and quizzes on the readings.
Media Industries was one of the only classes I enjoyed going to last semester- it was interesting and not difficult- as long as you keep up with the tracking paper... Freeman presents an interesting angle, and most importantly is extremely accommodating to students
Requires about 80 pages of textbook reading a week, random quizzes with detailed questions, midterm, final, and tracking paper. Class is incredibly boring with no real direction. He never reviews the assigned reading, so you're lost as to what's important. Plus, he wasn't even a Communications major himself. Survivable but not recommended.
Great Professor! Interesting, knowledgable and full of interesting examples to illustrate points. I loved this class. One of my favorites. And he is really helpful
I had Dr. Freeman for Intro to Comm & Media Arts. He is simply the BOMB!! And a total sweetheart too and very fair and makes learning fun. His class was one of the few class that I have looked forward to attending. However, please note, his research papers are challenging, but he does answer your questions to help you out as best as he can.
boring, talks about whatever the topic is without really making it interesting, unclear about the tracking paper, not really helpful, never lets us leave early, not a fun class, makes u do the reviews for the final because hes lazy, dont take him if u want to learn.
Professor Freeman definitely has knowledge about media industries, but it's difficult to sit through a class when the same 6 people speak up and everyone else is sleeping! Gives a tracking paper, midterm, final, and random quizzes. Overall, not the greatest professor and lacks one-on-one techniques with students in class, but he's tolerable.
He's is fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable. There's a midterm, final, and a paper which is broken up over the semester. He's a pretty fair grader and really gears and class to what we're all interested in. Definitely take him if you can. He's so nice
take this class. yeah it gets really boring but its easy. theres a huge paper thats divided up into liek 5 pages due here, 3 here, 2 here.. theres a book report where u read and informally tell the class what it was about, if you put a little effort- u will get an A
His teaching style definitely takes some getting used to, he wants it to be more of a dialogue with each other than him teaching and he doesn't know what to do if no one participates. Tried to get everyone to think and apply concepts to everyday life but it didn't work. Class was easy, but his teaching style is haphazard and unfocused.
Freeman is a good teacher. He is definitely not the best at provoking group discussion, but he tries. He tells interesting stories to relate theories to life (if you can bare to listen - he is boring) and he gears the class towards our interests. He is a really nice guy and very understanding. Papers are tedious but workload is easy & class is easy
He is pretty lazy because he never teaches the class. Each chapter is taught by a different student. When it comes time for exams, he's very much about "what do you think you should know?" as opposed to letting us know what's important. It's an easy class but also very annoying. I wouldn't take him again.
amazing no better teacher or guy in the world
He is a good person and a good professor. We usually read a chapter before class and then made a presentation about it in class. We had two easy exams and a few papers during the semester. He cares about students and sends emails regularly. Overall it was an easy class.
Great teacher, the grading criteria is clear so as long as you pay attention you should do well
He doesn't teach, he has the students read the book and lecture on key concepts, then has you memorize 80+ of them for the midterm where only ten show up and five can be left alone. He assigned a ten page paper to do during spring break like we had nothing better to do. Screw this guy
Took him as EP 1, lots of reading but interesting, 2 required textbooks you can get from the library, students teach the class, lots of talkingspeaking (bc its an EP 1), you have a say in the midterm and final, understanding,NICE, and TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. ALSO ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT
The tests and quizzes are pretty clear cut and he will always tell you the exam questions prior to the exam. Other than that, a lot depends on the research project. He didn't love my topic so at the midterm (before we had started the project) I had an A but ended up with a B- because he didn't like my project.
He's condescending and overall just very confusing as a person. He doesn't actually teach the class, he has you teach yourselves. No point in going. Would not recommend taking him if you can avoid it.
He is an okay guy, and tries to get the points of the topics across to you, but he also kind of weirdly looks at you as though you are his specimens. I think he likes seeing peoples reactions to things. He's not terrible, but I would make sure that you know exactly what he wants, and explain yourself very clearly in his essay/tests.
Took this as a Comm EP. This class is taught discussion based - which is a nice change. He has you discuss the readings & give talks on them - good way to learn. Overall nice guy, make sure you meet with him to discuss term paper and cite it correctly! I made the mistake and it cost me a huge loss of points on my paper - which is worth 20% of class
Generally not a difficult class but he doesn't give students good vibe
Professor Freeman is a nice guy but not a great professor. Attendance is mandatory but class is pretty pointless if you do the readings. Lots of pop quizzes, one 12 page paper, a written midterm, and a final.
I have taken him for multiple semesters and realized his teaching style is inconsistent. His work is really dumb and pointless. Lots of quizzes, lecture heavy, and REALLY BORING, REPETITIVE, AND NOT USEFUL FOR THE OUTSIDE WORLD. THINGS STATED IN LECTURES COME OUT OF THIN AIR!
I took Prof. Freeman for COMC 2111. His class is 100% discussion based, he does the majority of the talking. The grade is made up of a few projects and tests, all straight from the textbook so its easy to pass the class. He is super nice and friendly, his class may be a little boring. Overall, super easy, take your answers from the book.
There was one instance in this class where there was a lull in conversion so Prof. Freeman had all but one student close their eyes & we had to raise our hands to determine who actually read the assigned text or not. Completely unproductive & a waste of time. This class is based on rhetorical questions. Would recommend finding a different class.
I don't feel like I ever LEARNED anything. Class was all discussion-based, but he would talk a lot (sometimes too much). Really easy to slide by, but not very enjoyable. Took a while to respond to emails and get grades back. Idk what my grade is in this class... Readings were a drag and boring. He's not a BAD prof, just awkward and weird
Professor Freeman is an absolute gem. He always explains his expectations clearly, he helps his students achieve their goals. The workload is sometimes difficult but it is manageable. I cannot say enough good things about Professor Freeman. I highly recommend him for Effective Speaking.
Professor Freeman is the definition of fine. Hes nice and gets the point across but class is very boring and he only lectures. No slides, no examples, just speech and vibes. This is good because it makes the class easy but I dont think anyones getting that much out of what hes saying.
Professor Freeman's Media Industries class was cool in theory, but not as engaging as I hoped. He's a sweet man but the lectures get really boring and there is one super long paper at the end of the semester. The midterm was super easy and I didn't study too hard, but I probably wouldn't take this class again.
Do not take this class if you are not a communications major. Very boring and at times made little to no sense. Very textbook and lecture-heavy. The quizzes are straightforward, however, the big paper which is 35% of your grade has few instructions given. Nothing was taken away from this class, overall really confusing.
I've taken Prof. Freeman for other classes and he wasn't great... but this class is an exception. Effective Speaking is my favorite class I've taken at Fordham. Unlike his other classes, he was super down to earth and the assignments were fun. Gave a speech almost every class, he would give personalized feedback. If you like to talk, MUST TAKE!
Prof. Freeman is the best! Lectures can get a bit boring and dry at times if no one participates (IT MATTERS! Class will go by much quicker). Super easy midterm and final, he gave us the questions. A few pop quizzes, but he drops the lowest. One tracking paper. Very relevant to current media industries like film, tv, music, etc. take this class
Lewis Freeman is the definition of "okay." His lectures are alright, some are interesting but others are pretty boring. Some assignments are easy but some (like the Industry Tracking Paper) are fairly hard. I wouldn't say I learned a ton in the class, it is all class discussion (but he's talking 70% of the time).
Heavy, boring lectures about textbook readings - easy to zone out but participate because it matters!!! Really nice prof, relatively easy grader, just boring lectures. 4 quizzes (3 count), industry tracking paper, midterm, final, and participation of course. Lets the class dictate what format the midterm/final are. Overall positive experience.
Often not difficult just boring. The class decides the midterm and final but other assignments do not get enough direction-- the tracking paper is a Trip. Ten pages singlespace. He lectures So Much but its mildly interesting since he knows a lot, you need to participate once a class. Put effort into tracking paper and zone out rest of the class.
He is a nice man outside of class but in class, you just listen to him talk the whole time. When you do participate in class he disagrees with you which makes participation unbearable. Textbook is interesting but majority of the class revolves around Tracking Paper. This "paper" has little instructions but high expectations. Take a different prof.
Freeman's effective speaking class wasn't what I expected it to be. It is outline heavy and repetitive. The classes are boring and he is redundant. His grading system is weird too as everyone starts out at 0.
He wants participation but barely calls on you when you raise your hand. He Doesn't explain things. His lectures are boring as he talks about the book. Barely teaches anything. I'm leaving this class with the same knowledge I came into with NOTHING! He teaches a Media class but doesn't allow technology. Everything has to be printed or handwritten.
I wouldn't be turned off by the bad reviews. I was nervous about the amount of reading but that is really the only homework and there is not a lot of writing to go with it. You have to participate every class but as long as you have one thing you want to say about the reading that is enough.
This class tends to be quite boring, but the teacher is really nice. We have homework all the time, with assignments that vary from 1 to 6 pages. The workload can be a bit overwhelming at times. Additionally, there are pop quizzes that keep us on our toes and make sure we're paying attention.
I'm not sure why Prof. Freeman doesn't have higher reviews. He is one of the best professors I've had at Fordham. He is so kind, helpful, and accommodating to students. As long as you're willing to do the work, you will do well in his class.
He didn't give us the syllabus after the add/drop date, and he did a lot of homework every day. That's how he tracks attendance; you are not allowed to use any technology in his class, which is pathetic since it is a media class. Take him if you need to but do not recommend him
Freeman is a very nice man, but I would not recommend this course for non-communications majors. It's very lecture-heavy, and the tracking paper is lengthy and somewhat tedious. There are enough small assignments where you can do well if you do the work. If you are a comm major, he is very knowledgeable, but otherwise, I wouldn't take this class.
Prof. Freeman is such a sweet man and caring that simply only wants you to learn something(anything) in his class. The class is structured so the students teach the majority of the readings, you will have to lead class twice a semester. All class assignments are structured around a final term paper, that does not have a big structure.
Laptop-free class. Insane amounts of reading. 15+ page paper due midway through the semester that was v hard + time consuming. Nice professor but the workload was a lot especially if you're not into the material. Discussion-based class w/ discussion leaders every class. Not the worst but not great.
freeman is a good professor that is nice. the entire class is just a class discussion. long readings that are kinda boring and annoying. literally the entire class is participation. the finals and midterms are not too hard and def not like studying hours for. read, pay attention, participate, follow guidelines that he gives
can't recommend him enough. very intelligent man, and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. he makes an effort to get to know all the members in class, which i have found to be refreshing. the class is almost entirely discussion-based, which is great to build your public speaking skills. it's a small class, so it's different than others
