a great teacher to have!
GREAT TEACHER! Lectures are fun and interesting. Readings are assigned but you don't need to do them. Tests are based on lectures. Tests have fun questions.
his lectures are very interesting, brings politics to life--will really make a person interested in the subject
GREAT TEACHER!! You will enjoy the class.
Dr. Ringel is a very intellectual professor. He is always the Devil's Advocate, and be ready for harsh grading on all papers. For the exams, be ready to fill in blanks that you don't have a clue about.
He is a very good speaker. His lectures are fun and interesting. Just Take a lot of notes, and go to class. Tests are exactly what he talks about in his lectures. A fun teacher to take.
His lectures are pretty easy to follow and his tests are all multiple choice. He gives one paper but it's not too bad either, not a bad class to take, I enjoyed it!
Just go to class and take notes and you'll never have to read anything. Tests are m.c. 1 paper. He's pretty funny and an excellent speaker.
best professor i've ever had!
He's a good professor, bad thing is that he also knows it! *cocky* Test questions are straight from lectures. Meetings are fun at times and sometimes boring. Be sure to write fast b/c he talks pretty fast. *laptop recommended*
He's one of my best professors, One of the few professors who can hold my attention for an hour:). He's also hard on grading.
Very smart, knows the information, and keeps his views out of teaching. Is very direct on what he asks of the class, and is easy to follow.
Yawn!! Very dry and boring material. Stays on the safe path of politics not very profound class.Nice man and is funny at times.Class could include non-traditional media avenues.
Ringel is a really good professor, youll actually learn something from him. His tests are really easy (all multiple choice)..He does give out pop quizzes ocassionally though and does notice if you show up to class or not. Easy A if you actually study. I would take him again if I had to.
Personally, i found this class to be somewhat boring. Tests are somewhat easy, however. Suggested to sit closer, as you will probably enjoy the class more.
He KNOWS how to lecture. He has "pop" quizzes, but they are really only five; one after every section. His tests are based on his lectures and textbook. Class is pretty straight-forward. His graduate assistant holds reviews that are helpful. Just make sure you GO TO CLASS!
A real piece of work. He is seriously suffering from little-man-I-tis. His ego is enormous. He plays favorites and gives you a hard time if he doesn't like you. Don't question his unclear assignments, he takes it as a personal attack. Study guides are huge, he might as well not give one. An @$$hole!
His syllabus was 11 pages long, but do not let that scare you. He gives "popquizzes"-he emails you before class to let you know to stock up on scantrons, if you can call that a popquiz? I was able to maintain focus throughout the 2 hrs +. He is very clear on what he expects from you. Go to class!
He doesnt take attendance but he does have a participation grade that is based off of actual participation rather than attendance. Take good notes, before exams he gives you a study guide that is very helpful; & there are only 3 short papers. I suggest his class, hes a great teacher and funny.
I enjoyed his class! His graduate assistant has review sessions before the exams and his exams are multiple choice. Really knows his stuff and has actually held many positions in politics so he has first hand experience.
BOOOOOOORRRRRIIINNNNGGG. ALMOST FELL ASLEEP A FEW TIMES. HE'S NICE AND SOMETIMES FUNNY, BUT NEEDS SOME SERIOUS HELP KEEPING PEOPLE INTERESTED.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! He knows what he is talking about, and gets you interested in the material. He likes to play Devil's Advocate, which really makes you think.
This guy is serious. You can't cruise his class but he is very clear about what you need to learn for the exams. He also gives many little quizes that make you stay up on the reading, but they are easy and basic if you do the reading. Ringel is a smart guy and very respectable, but should loosen up a little. He hasn't Californianized yet.
I wouldn't take him again!!! (3 exlamation points, and I did well in the class)
Kinda of monotone. Doesn't really clarify much.
Knows what he's talking about. Good class if you're willing to do the work. Gives out a LOT of reading but you'll learn a lot if you take it seriously. Leads interesting lectures and discussions.
Awsome teacher really like him. and he makes the material interesting which is good considering it can sometimes be a bit dull. i suggest him REALLY. good guy

Ringel is a pretty cool instructor who is easy going and easy to talk to. He may play devil's advocate to some of your views but is a cool guy. The class is not too difficult as long as you go to class.
I like this class a lot. Ringel is a great teacher.
His POSC 100 class is very easy as long as you always attend the class. He'll have spontaneous quizzes every once in a while, but they're not difficult. I have found most of his lectures interesting and some of them actually quite funny.

Very intresting guy, lectures are funny but be prepared he does engage and ask questions. Pop quizzes are usually on monday, and stick to reading more of the text book and less of the articles. prepare for the midterms though, they're a little harder then you expect. overall cool class and teacher, would definetly take him again.
Very interesting lecturer, the class is somewhat difficult though. Make sure you keep up on your readings.
a class you will want to go to
Awesome teacher! Pop quizzes suck. Easy if you study. You dont even need to read. Gives study guides for both midterms and final. The essay was the hardest assignment. If you read you'll easily do fine if you read. I never opened the book. Just study the terms. Sometimes he randomly calls on people for qustions, so read if you dont wanna look dumb.
Nice guy, easy quizzes, HARD midterm. Hard grader. doesn't care about attendance.
Awesome class, great teacher. He makes the class very interesting and worthwhile and teaches with an unbiased approach. The quizzes are cake as long as you go to class. Take good notes in class and check a few specifics in the book and you will do very well on his midterms too. Just be sure to start the essay early! Bottom line TAKE THIS CLASS
The class was pretty easy, he explained everything well and added a sense of humor to his lectures. Only had to write one paper, you don't really need to read the books, just go to the lectures and you'll be fine.
hes a really good professor. he did not make fun of me for when i gave dumb answers. though i did not get good grades, everyone around me seem to. im lazy and i got a C. Take this class to enrich ur mind and views
as long as you take alright notes, you'll do alright. interesting guy, knows what he's talking about. only one essay assigned and he gives study guides for all the exams. you don't even need to read the books, just make sure you don't miss the lectures.
great speaker. makes points very clear. will work with you. tests are not hard as long as you take good notes. overall good teacher who i would take again.
he really knows what he's talking about and presents arguments very clear and no biased like some profs. very helpful, i would take him again for another class.
The guy knows what he's talking about. There is a lot of reading material but most of it is informational your not really tested on it. Has pop quizes so you need to go to class, one essay, one small easy project, two mid-terms, and final. Lectures are interesting and he is funny. Take this professor, highly recommended!
Has a lot of knowledge about Political Science, has done it all. although can be sort of patronizing, and picks on people quite a bit, if you cnat explain yourself well. Tests are hard if you dont read or take good notes. I liked him because he knew what he was talking about, and thats all you really need.
very horrible and rude professor. Very conservative and unfair. Made my make up exam the ONLY exam with essay ?s. 3 others took make ups prior to mine and theirs was all multiple choice. When talked to him he said its how it is from now on..either **** or just dumb...AVOID!!
one of the best teachers i've ever had. class was interesting, which made it easy. go to class, study, and talk to him in his office hours = you'll love it.
Great class, just a lot of work.
Quite difficult...especially if you don't read you notes(and if you do not take good notes) Interesting, but goes too fast. He's rude and sarcastic...has an annoying voice :(
Dr. Ringel is a professor who thinks his class is the most important on campus. His grading standards are unfair since he is vague in his comments and his writing is so awfully messy. He made us watch extremely boring movies out of class, which was not fun at all. Students at Harvard would have a hard time in Ringel's class. Waste of time.
He is a fairly hard grader, but a fair one. His class is really interesting. He really challenges you. Can't be timid! Funny and entertaining while you learn a lot.
my advise, take him. Classes are lecture, basically random quizzes worth almost nothing, 1 short paper, 1 long paper, 2 midterms, and a final. go to class everday, take good notes. trust me, easy B with little studying.
Great teacher. Difficult tests but you learn alot. He may seem intimidating, but he is great. I would definetly recommend his class.
His lectures were extremely interesting for the subject matter. He has a "personable" personality, an obvious knowledge of the subject matter, and a knack for making you feel stupid if you ask a question. However, his class is fair enough- if you go to class and take notes you will do well on the exams. The papers are not unreasonable either.
This guy cracks me up. He always would crack jokes and never laugh at them. It was an easy class for me because he is very clear and he gives detailed study guides. Cool teacher. Loves his kids
He is a really good teacher! He is clear with his notes and expectations. His class is notes based. To be honest I never opened the text book. There are a couples of readings that are not in the text but he puts mostly everything online. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do well.
very hard class...u need 5 books n he tests u on all of em...u need a tape recorder if u realli want to do well....most of the info on the test comes from lectures ...and he goes extremely fast on his lectures....dont take him if you're planning to slack off...
The entire class is lecture. His lectures are pretty interesting, and he tries to incorporate them with students lives. He can be intimidating, but hes a nice guy. Exam questions come from class notes, so dont be absent. Theres one paper. Most of it is pretty basic, and you learned some of it in high school.
Awesome teacher.
One of the best professors i've ever had. in my opinion he teaches with a completely unbiased opinion especially for a posc class. not even close to being extremely conservative (as mentioned in previous comments), vey clear, tests are primarily based on lectures.he'll exploit your stupidity if you are in fact stupid. don't say "like."
Good teacher, interesting lectures, good readings, tough grader. The exams are not too bad, except for the essay portion. Tough grader on the papers. Nice guy, the only thing I didn't like was how he puts students on the spot when asking questions or commenting on lectures. If he does not like you response, he will make sure everyone knows.
Disappointed with the class. Interesting reading but teacher has NO compassion unless you are one of his "favorites." No matter how hard you try, if he believes you can only get a certain grade on assignments, he will not change his mindset. Was warned not to take class, wish I would have taken the advice.
good teacher...dont need the text book covers everthing in class attendence is not mandatory but he gives pop quiz....test are easy...this teacher you love him or not...good teacher
This man does not want you to learn. If you are African American (& not one of his "favorites") DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. People of color, who are not ok with C's DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Not because of test or papers, but because he doesn't want you to learn. I'm warning you take anyone besides him!!
IF YOU WANT TO GET A GOOD GRADE, I SUGGEST YOU NOT TAKE HIM. HE THINKS HE IS BETTER THAN YOU AND HE WANTS TO MAKE YOU FEEL BAD. HOWEVER, HE DOESN'T THINK THIS IS WRONG...HE ACTUALLY BELIEVES IT'S REQUIRED AS A PROFESSOR?!?! ITS JUST SAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
rude, opinionated, stubborn, jerk, biased and subtly **** describes Ringel. one of the worst teachers ive ever had. if you are a person of color u are WARNED.DO NO TAKE HIS CLASS. he thinks his class is the only class you have. gives way to many reading assignments. hard grader. unwilling to give advice or help you improve your grade. AVOID HIM!!
Go to class, & you don't need the book. His lec. are easy to understand and mostly keeps you awake. He has a huge ego and is very sarcastic all the time; It's funny most of the time. He loves what he does and he cares about you if you show EFFORT. Go to his office hrs! know EVERYTHING on the study guides. he gives pop quizzes, so know your stuff.
TAKE HIS CLASS!!! you have to take poli-sci 100 as a requirement, so take him. His class if very straightforward. I only skimmed through the textbook when studying for a test & there are 2 papers (1 is extremely easy the other is a little difficult) and even though i received a D on the hard paper I still managed to get a high B in his class!!
he doesnt write anything down for lectures. He just talks to the class. He goes the whole class time. Took him 3 months + to return our paper we turned in at the beginning of class. Overall i hate POSC but he was a teacher that made it kinda easy. If you have a friend who took him..take all their tests and notes cus they are the same each semester
Ringel is a great guy. He is really funny and his teaching style is great. He is loud and sarcastic and I loved it. He can be intimidating because of his strong personality, but thats because he's from New Jersey. I recommend his class. Don't buy the book.
Thinks he's funny but he's not...could be a jerk, personally didn't like him. His aides are useless!! They grade tremendously hard but won't help you. Overall from 1-5, five the great- a 2.
He really knows what he's talking about! He made it very interesting and he made me laugh. I liked this class a lot even though I got a C, I really enjoyed his teaching. I recommend him!
Very good teacher, material was boring to me but he knows his stuff. Tests more on notes than textbook, so take good notes! Attendance not mandatory but he gives pop quizzes. Not a hard class, you just have to pay attention and keep up with the material. Gives study guides and reviews for tests.
i hated the way prof. ringle taught. majored in posc and he was the worst teacher by far at csulb.
he's whatever. because it is a lecture there is no direct contact w/ the man, but he may rub off as a wise ass (he is pretty smart) but in a snooty/arrogant way. u pretty much have to listen to him lecture and take notes the whole time. he gives pop quizzes randomly during lecture so show up to class!
Call me crazy, but I thought this class was awesome. Professor Ringel's lectures are very interesting and he's very animated and passionate. Pop quizzes and tests aren't too hard. Yeah, I liked it.
I learned a lot in his class. He does teach a lot of information. Note taking is enough to pass the midterms and final. He pop quizzes like crazy but if you are paying attention they are an easy 5 points. I recommend his class specially if you are just taking it as a GE.
Ringel certainly knows his stuff. He's smart and funny, and the best part is he only tests on lecture material. He assigns readings but I haven't opened my book all semester and I have an A. You have to come to class because he will do pop quizzes sometimes, and you have to take good notes, but he's a good teacher. I reccomend him.
I had Lew Ringel as a professor at the U.S. Naval Academy. Very tough in all respects, but if you put forth effort you'll be fine. If you give a high school effort then you will flounder. As for the **** comments, that's insane. Sorry, but Lew is a huge liberal and someone who would never condone racism. He is arrogant as hell though...lol.
Tests are COMPLETELY based on the lecture. Only had to read the book for the paper and CA government quiz. Go to class, take notes, and you'll be fine. Gives pop quizzes so it's important to attend.
Easy A if you attend and take notes. He pop quizzes a lot so make sure you go to class. Test are all off of the lectures so its easy. i would recommend him.
Be prepared, be very prepared.Do not walk into class thinking it will be easy. It takes much hard work. You will lose a lot of sleep. Despite all this, it was one of my best experiences at CSULB so far. C
Easy Course! Just go to class, take notes and you'll get an A. Exams are DIRECTLY off lecture notes. Study Guides are really useful. He is really funny too!
One paper and three midterms. Do Study Guide, they help. Pop quizzes so might want to go to class even though attendance isnt mandatory. The pop quizzes matter! Two quizzes towards the end also. Good professor, funny without trying, and I had respect for him.
I thought this course was super hard! His 5 page essay was ridiculously hard and tests are sortof hard but will be able to get a good grade if you study HARD.This teacher is pretty funny and knows what he's talking about. If you're up for a challenge then take him.
political science is not interesting at all, but prof ringel definitely knows what he is talking about. the class is pretty HARD and you need to take extensive notes. he pop quizzes ALOT!!!!!! so class is not mandatory but just know he will be pop quizzing more then likely. if you actually like professors who expect something out of you take him.
The fact that he is from New Jersey says it all. He thinks he is Jon Stuart... yet not quite as interesting, or funny. Just beware, his grading standards and expectations are ridiculous for a level 100 class. Likes to hear himself talk for sure.
Weighted scale really sucks, but most of his lectures are more or less interesting. You can tell he's really into politics and New York and baseball and stuff. Do well on all the quizzes and tests and you might be lucky enough to get an A. Kinda hard with the weighted scale though.
Awesome professor. This class isn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Just go to class, do the study guides, and keep up with everything. You will learn a lot and he is very interesting. Much respect for this professor.
Ringel is a great professor. His lectures are interesting, extremely informative, and easy to pay attention to. Attend all class sessions, take notes, do the study guides and you'll do great. Everything on the exams is on the study guides.
By far the best professor & class at CSULB. It's a shame the PoliSci department doesn't have more professors like Ringel who take a unbiased approach to their teaching. He plays devil's advocate and makes you think about the other sides to an argument. I honestly found myself looking forward to the class and learned a lot! Tough, but a fair grader.
If you're lazy like me, it's super hard. I currently have a D. Pop quizzes screw you over unless you read the textbook prior to coming to class. He knows what he's talking about though. If you don't buy the textbook, take GOOD notes.
Great professor! Very interesting and and knows his stuff. Never been one to like politics very much, but I enjoyed this class. Not an easy A. However if you do the reading, go to class, and attend study sessions, you'll do great. You'll learn alot. Recommend!
Good professor, someone easy class but that is if you come to class, pay attention, read, and study. Pop quizzes, so you need to come to every class. 3 exams, always very available in office hours. I recommend.
POP QUIZZES! Don't leave class because he either gives pop quizzes before or after class. He gives study guides. Study the study guides and you'll do fine on the exams. There's no homework in this class.
Great teacher! Never liked polysci until this class! He's funny and teaches in a way where he tries to make the information interesting-almost like a story. His lectures are very informative. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, there are pop quizzes and his tests are based on lectures. GO TO CLASS! Very manageable class if you study.
This is one of those classes where you get what you put in. DO THE STUDY GUIDES! They help ALOT. I never really liked political science until I took this course. 2 midterms, pop quizzes, and a final. He may seem intimidating at first but this class isn't all that bad if you study.
Go to class! He gives out pretty easy pop quizzes like once a week that end up helping your grade! No papers ! Just 2 midterms, and a cumulative final, thats pretty easy because his outlines are helpful, make sure you study!study!study! Class can get a bit boring, but make sure you take good notes and thats all you need! Try finding book online!
You HAVE to go to class!Superb teacher! He grades hard and the two tests are hard but he is so helpful. He makes the class interesting. Study for the quizzes, and DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE NIGHT BEFORE to study for the midterm and final because you will FAIL if you do. Enjoyable teacher, but will never cancell class. I recommend him and this calss!
Exceellent teacher! You will get what you put in. STUDY! He gives you all the information needed for quizzes & tests, but you must pay attention. No papers, but time outside of class must be used if you expect to do well. Ringel really knows his stuff. Available during office hours and will answer any questions you have about the study guides (:
Make sure you take notes because they are mainly on the tests! I did slack off and so I was not able to get that A. Just make sure you review your notes for a pop quiz a week. Those are not so bad actually. Also the extra credit is offered at the end of the semester. I was able to boost up my grade 6%. He makes posc more enjoyable.
You MUST pay attention to his lectures. His tests are based solely on what he says, not on the textbook. He gives study guides for his 2 tests and 1 final. If you go to class, pay attention during lectures, take notes, and study with the guides, you'll pass the class. He's also a very good lecturer so it's not hard to pay attention in class.
Attendance is mandatory, in my opinion since he gives random pop quizzes. His tests are based on his lectures, so it's important to pay attention. Don't worry, his lectures aren't too boring. If he gives out extra credit, TAKE IT! It will seriously help out your grade if you messed up on exam or something. Overall, great professor!
I've had Dr. Ringel for three different classes and he is one of my absolute favorite professors. He's not the easiest but if you do the work and pay attention, you should be okay. Very smart man and cares deeply about his students.
Very challenging class. There isn't a ton of reading, but you have to dedicate time to reviewing the cases because they do pile up toward the end. Quizzes are easy, briefs require attention to detail. Ringel is an extraordinary professor. If you take one PS class, take him.
He knows what he's talking about and is very smart. Reading the cases prior to class wasn't necessary but I always did to participate in discussion. Tests are not extremely difficult if you study the study guide well before hand but the briefs are a little bit harder to Ace. Overall, great professor.
Hands down the best professor in the department. Class time is VERY efficiently spent; you'll learn a lot. He does a great job explaining the material. The reading is light, easy, and beneficial. Attendance is semi-mandatory (he gave ten random pop quizes, but each quiz only turned out to be about 1% of the final grade, so you can miss a few).
I hated the idea of having to take a gov class, but Ringel actually made me enjoy the class! The book is worthless, quizzes are based on lecture class before. Go to class everyday and take notes, he is very clear and genuinely wants students to succeed. Study guides are the test, very straight forward and easy if you study. Recommend indeed.
Ringel is a very good professor! I like PoliSci/History, so maybe I'm a bit biased but I thought the class was pretty easy and that he was a good and helpful prof. There are 3 Midterms and 1 Final, as well as 8 random pop quizzes (that's how he keeps track of attendance, but theyr'e only 10% of the grade so nbd if you miss). No HW besides readings.
LOVED this class!! You don't really need need the book and his tests/ quizzes are based off lectures. Go to class, pay attention, and its an easy A!!
One of the few professors that have left a lasting impression. He is an amazing teacher.
He only cares about winning. Do not take this class for an easy A. You will lose sleep, be stressed, and your other classes will suffer. The worst part though, like I said, is he only cares about winning competitions. If you are not as good as he wants you to be, he will not care about you at all.
Class time is used very efficiently. Take very good notes and you will do fine. I learned a lot about SCOTUS and the cases that affect our lives. He runs the Moot Court and suggested that I apply, and I did and got in. Other Mooters I spoke to seem to love it. I will post about 417 next semester.
I dont think ive ever had a prof. that teaches more clearly then Dr. Ringel. He is such a good public speaker, which makes his lecture a real joy to attend. He actually made me more interested in gov. Pay attention in class because his midterms are based off his lectures. Midterms are like 50 multiple choice. Final, 100 multiple choice.
He lectures EVERY DAY, but it's not that bad. He's really into what he teaches so he makes it interesting. I probably paid the most attention in his class. He has 3 exams and a final if you go to the review sessions with the graduate students and study the material you'll ace every test! He likes lists and tests based on facts too. DEF RECOMMEND!!
Blunt is his attribute. He gets straight to the material, but he is clear about it. He likes to walk around the room to make sure everyone is engaged. He provides some extra credit opportunities. I recommend a group study guide to pass the tests. Also, expect lots of pop quizzes! Great class.
Overall I highly recommend this professor! There are pop quizzes, four exams, an extra credit opportunity, and no homework. Take good notes and do the study guides and you're set! Also make sure to attend every lecture so you don't miss out. He gets to the point and puts emphasis on the important parts of the lecture so you know what to study.
Easy one of the best professors on campus. Classes are made up of mostly long lectures but the information is presented in an interesting manner. He knows what he is talking about and has great passion for the subject matter. As long as you don't procrastinate on studying you'll do great with this guy. Oh, and watch out for pop quizzes.
Dr. Ringel is really knowledgeable. He knows what he's talking about and is a great speaker. I only fell asleep a few times, and most likely because it was an 8 AM! He's the perfect combination of hard headed and cool guy. No papers to write, midterms throughout and the for the final I pulled an all nighter. So good luck with that one!
3 case briefs, one midterm and a final. Go into his office hours w a draft of your case brief before it's due and he'll tell you what to fix to get an A. Study guide for both midterm and final. Participation matters but he sends you an email half way through letting you know if you need to up your participation. Not the easiest but worth the work.
Profesor Ringel is one of the POSC best professor i ever had, his lectures are tough but come one this is college, plus he explains everything easy, yes he goes fast but you actually learn a lot from this class. I love every class i have taken with his and definitely would take him again!!!
Best and informative political science teacher but he needs to slow down when lecturing because HE TALKS TOO FAST AND I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH HIS PACE
Ringel's lectures are really clear and hold all the answers to the tests. I'm bitter because I showed up to lectures and took notes at home and ended up just short of an A. Make sure you show up to class on time!!! He gives pop quizzes during the first 5 minutes. Good teacher, easy class to pass if you put in some effort.
A wonderful lecturer and very clear and direct. I enjoyed every class meeting . the class and material is a little tough but if you like law and The Constitution, this class is highly recommended.
Professor Ringel is an amazing lecturer. You can tell he's passionate about what he's talking about which makes you more interested in what he has to say. Tests are exactly like his study guides which are based off the lectures. Don't bother buying a book, you won't need it. Just make sure to attend class because of pop quizzes and lecture notes.
When I graduate, he will be the one professor I will always remember. Not only is he a great moot court coach, he really cares about his students. Lots of case briefs and reading (but if you're going to law school you should suck it up). Always gives you priority during his office hours. Extremely knowledgeable about constitutional law.
There are around 6 to 8 pop quizzes given in the beginning of class so coming to class is imperative. He lectures the whole time but everything he says fits in perfectly with what he puts on study guides. There are 3 exams and the final and that's it. The class before a test is just review so not mandatory to show up. Overall pretty good professor!
Great lecturer. To the point and organized. Tests require some study time, but they are passable. Attendance not mandatory, zero homework. You dont need the book, just study the study guide and take good notes!
Dr. Ringel is great. My only criticism is systemic. I don't think we should be expected to show up to class for a lecture these days. I'd rather we get a video lecture and show up to class for a conversation. His moderated discussions were the best. Look up his class on quizlet and facebook to see some gems my class left you and it will be easy.
Prof Ringel hands down my fav professor! His lectures at times got boring but he would through some jokes in to lighten up the mood. Tests were super easy and we got a study guide every time. Before each test, his graduate ta's would hold a review session. Helped for any extra questions.
Does not give pop quizzes anymore. Provides study guides that are exactly like the exams. Answers to the study guide are given during his lectures. No homework but long lectures. 3 midterms, 1 final. Great professor. Textbook not needed
Only 3 test and 1 final. Bittersweet because it not much workload but you need to do good on the exams to pass the class. Provides all study guides which are very similar to the exams. Would take again just wish I tried harder in first two exams. Study groups are key to fill out study guides together.
Never in my four years of undergrad have I ever had the pleasure of learning from a professor like Dr. Ringel. He really cares about his students. As long as you put in the effort, he'll do the same. Class is unlike any other. Competing is the best part. My only negative comment about Dr. Ringel is that I can't take his class again. Best professor.
Don't buy the textbook, but definitely attend lectures - even though they're not mandatory. He doesn't present with slides, you just have to take notes from what he verbally presents. Grade consists of four exams, which is good and bad. Definitely take him as a professor - he knows his stuff!
Professor Ringel hands down made political science one of my favorite classes. Textbook isn't necessary, but definitely attend lectures even if attendance isn't mandatory. 3 midterms, 1 final with a study guide before every exam stating exactly what might be on the exams. Exams are easy, as long as you put in the work. Amazing professor.
No one shoots more straight than this guy, his class isn't hard if you stay on top of your readings and pay attention to deadlines. Can be a tough grader but he gives great feedback, took me a little to get used to his style but once you hit that stride it is immersive and smooth sailing from then on.
I had Dr ringel in a few of my classes when I was an undergrad student. Im in grad school and I have yet to meet such an intelligent and engaging instructor yet. I really miss his lectures
I thoroughly enjoyed class with Dr. Ringel. His lectures are structured, not too much reading. He gives study guides for his exams which were helpful. His quizzes can be hard but just review before class. There are two case briefs, not bad. Just read the material, pay attention in class. You'll be fine.
Super easy class. No hw, tests only. Everything on the tests will be provided on the study guide. His lectures are very interesting, funny and very detailed yet easy to go along and take notes. He knows his stuff. If he keeps repeating things, it will be on the test.
Pretty easy GE class. Attendance is not mandatory. There is no homework or anything, your grade is based only on 4 tests. He gives you a study guide of everything that will be on them. I would recommend you study for the tests a bit and you will be fine. The first test and the final are all multiple choice. The others are MC and short answer.
One of the best professors you will ever have. Put in the effort and you will find Moot Court to be an incredibly rewarding experience.
Grade based on 4 tests, 3 midterms and one final. The midterms are mc and short answer while the final is just mc. The test is just like the study guide so study it as much as possible.
Grades are based on 3 midterms and 1 final. He gives study guides out every exam and sets aside the lecture before the exam to go over the study guide in detailmake sure to make one study guide and share with the class, it HELPS. Take very detailed notes and pay attention to what he REPEATS, those will be essay questions. Great professor!
I attended class sometimes but always showed up on review days. Hes boring but okay. Study guides help the most, and he doesnt round up. No curving and no extra credit. 3 exams + the final. I didnt even open the textbook and passed the class.
Ringel is a great choice. No homework and the only grades are 3 exams and a final. He gives you a study guide before each exam and its exactly whats on the test. Utilize the study guides and you should be fine. Dont need to get the textbook. Lecture isn't mandatory but he doesnt have slides and talks the entire time so be ready to take notes
Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives only oral lectures- no powerpoint. His lectures are funny and cover everything that will be on the exam- textbook is completely unnecessary. Exams are multiple choice and short answer, but his study guides cover everything on the exam. The only thing you will be graded on are your 4 exams, so do your best!
Dr. Ringel is probably the best history teacher/professor I've ever had in my life. He's funny and you can tell he cares about his students. GO TO CLASS ON REVIEW DAYS AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE everything on the exam will be from the study guide. He also wants to be the "most accessible professor" on campus so he answers your emails pretty quickly lol
One of the best that CSULB has to offer. He's a brilliant lecturer, has clear grading criteria, and will go above and beyond to see you succeed and develop as a student as well. He will help you think critically, and understand complex topics in a simple way. The class isn't very tough either.
The lecture is enjoyable. The homework is extremely easy. His exams are based on his recorded videos so it is YOUR responsibility to take notes on them. Take good notes and you will pass the class. Exams are not proctored, but it doesn't matter because the questions are not on google so take good notes. Easiest class with very minimal work.
Worst professor. He makes an elective way harder than a science course. Avoid him at any cost.
I took this as an online class. Professor Ringel is very knowledgable and caring. He treats us like college students, not having to attend zoom meetings if we're able to survive without his extra help. You watch the 2-5 min clips of his lectures, divided and labeled into what it's talking about, and you should do fine in the class.
All 4 of his exams were 25 questions. His final was 100 questions and study guide did not help. Does not offer extra credit nor curves regardless of personal circumstances. The final was the reason why I didnt keep my A. He assigns 10-20, 4-5 min videos! Ive taken Upper Division classes with less work load! 10 quizzes 2 questions each!
6 exams throughout the semester but if you review the study guide you will pass. There are also weekly quizzes and discussions but they are very easy. The live Zoom meetings are not mandatory but I would recommend attending them because they can be very interesting. Overall he's a good professor and I would recommend taking this class.
Dr. Ringel was a good professor. He is a tough grader, but expectations are made clear and he is definitely straightforward. Get ready to read. He will ask questions about the reading in class. Participation really matters in his course. overall, you learn a lot from him.
If you're wanting to go to law school, take Moot Court with Dr. Ringel. Incredible experience. CSULB 2022 National Champs.
Cool dude overall. Only went to online zoom sessions probably less than 5 times. As long as you watch lectures, take notes, answer questions of the week, take online 2-3 question quizzes, complete chapter exams.. you will be fine. It might sound like a lot but it really isn't. Also be sure to join class discord. Everyone should help one another.
The professor is extremely nice. As long as you took good notes on the video lectures along with his PDF notes online, I guarantee you will pass the class. Discussion board every week, but again it's not difficult if you view the lectures. Professor actually read emails and respond fast!!
For a GE, I liked this class. A lot of lectures but they were all posted online with pdf summaries. Take good notes and you should be fine, (read the syllabus to!)(my class had a group discord where we had a shared study guide). Not a lot of work, 9 short quizzes, 6 discussion boards (only do 3), and 4 exams. Textbook or attendance wasn't required
If you need to take POSC 100, please take him!!! You will not regret it! He is an amazing teacher who does a great job at keeping his students interested in what we are learning. His exams are pretty straight forward! We get a total of 10 quizzes and 4 exams. Also, there is no homework given! 10/10!
Attendance was not mandatory. We have 10 quizzes we can complete whenever we want. 4 exams. He is a really nice professor, no complaints.
I loved Ringel's class because of his lectures, both on-call and asynchronous (through the video lectures he's made). His study guides were useful too, but to pass I suggest using both the guide and his verbal lectures to understand what's going on. I think he's one of the professors that's mastered the means of online learning.
By far one of the easiest courses I took at CSULB. Lectures were informative but even if you didn't attend class you could still find lecture notes on beach board which included everything put on exams. No homework assigned and all exams were taken online and on your own time. 4 exams (including final and midterm) and 10 quizzes due at end of sem
Class was so easy. His study guides helped A LOT with the exams and quizzes. I only attended of few of his lectures and they were interesting but you don't really need to go to pass because he posts them online. 10/10 would recommend.
Prof. Ringel seems like a really nice guy and his lectures are informative however I found his exams to be ridiculous and long for no apparent reason. The final is cumulative which seems unnecessary for a level 100 class and be prepared for a slew of grammatical errors and unhelpful study guides. I am an honor student and had trouble passing. Avoid
This class is too hard for a GE, plus he grades too hard and isnt always specific on what he wants. His personality is very intimidating.
Lol I don't go to class at all and I'm managing an A. All quizzes and tests are online so you can use your notes or whatever. I'd recommend if you're looking for an easy GE.
Very entertaining and informative lecturer, and if lectures aren't your thing, then he sometimes posts his notes online anyway. Don't bother buying the textbook, pretty much nobody did, and we are doing all fine.
Professor Ringel's POSC100 class is a solid GE choice - manageable workload, helpful lectures (even recorded ones), and useful study guides. unstuck study made quiz prep a breeze.
Professor Ringel's class is a class I would take again as a GE. He's super sweet and funny. I'm not sure how people don't pass his class because it's relatively simple and straight to the point. There are 4 exams, 3 questions, and 10 quizzes in total. There's no homework. It's not heavy work at all so don't worry. Totally choose him if you can!
He makes the topic interesting take his class.
If you care at all about political science, this class will be interesting. I took this class as a freshman and have now decided to add a minor in POSC. He is very knowledgable and funny. If you go to class and take notes you will succeed. If you don't go to class and study hard before tests you will be fine too. Overall a fun class.
I wouldn't rec. I'm not a bad student, always A's, I do my work, but this professor is VERY vague, doesnt explain well, and then regrades what a TA says is 100 to a 65. We asked what template he wanted a paper, said it didn't matter but it did. I have no idea what happened to him now compare to these other ratings.
Wouldn't recommend. I'm a solid student who usually earns A's and stays on top of work, but this professor is extremely unclear. Instructions are vague, feedback is inconsistent, and grades get changed without reason. He posted no instructions for Paper 1 and still penalize students. DO NOT TAKE!
he's very unclear with his directions especially regarding the two papers, his class is not hard otherwise. read his vague directions and over explain yourself on the paper and ask a lot of questions through email, but when he responds to you on email he's very curt and borderline rude.
His directions for his papers are basically nonexistent and then he'll proceed to send passive aggressive emails about how we should've followed the nonexistent directions. I wouldn't recommend his class at all.
I love Dr. Ringel hes the best. Moot court is a blast with him, im sure his other classes are a blast with him. He grades hard at first but thats only because he wants to prepare you for writing for law school and as a attorney. Great guy and understands, go to his office hours and replies quick. Nothing but great things to say about him.
Eh. Taking this class online now. Not bad at all in terms of workload, really only quizzes, exams, and 2 papers. The only thing I dislike is that his directions for his papers are not clear at all. Got a 75% on my paper for a reason that was not stated in the directions.
Took his class online asynch so he might be different in person. Quizzes and exam ok, instructions for papers unclear. Would recommend emailing him your paper to review before the due date. He responds to emails at an efficient time but his responses are kind of wack. I emailed him with a few questions and he responded with like 3 words.
easyyyy. ppl complained about him grading papers but like just email him before its due and he'll give feedback. 4 exams, & 1 final 1st and final both only mcq, rest have like 2-4 short essay questions but very simple. two papers total -- both are like a page or less double spaced. a few quizzes, all mcq and 2 questions each for quiz. rlly easy
