So sexy! He's a great teacher also and makes the class so much fun!
By far the best teacher I'd had while I was ISU. Very helpfull and entertaining, cool guy too. I highly encourage everyone to take a class of his.
Terrific class. I wasn't interested in anthro until his class. I would highly recomend him.
He is beautiful!!!
Peoples and Culture of S E Asia: Fascinating course taught by fine professor. No pre-req--he explains the basics of anthropology. Believes that a well-written novel teaches more than a thousand pages of theory--something I could appreciate as an English major. Work hard; you'll come away with a lifelong interest in the region and in anthropology.
Anthropology of SE Asia...really great class...really great teacher... The traditional text is supported by less 'dull' material/books...lectures are interesting...his first hand experiences are interesting as well. Well worth taking.
Dr. Thomas is an amazing professor. I took several classes from him and he influenced my decision to minor in anthropolgy. He encourages the students to think beyond the classroom setting. Particulary interesting is his class on the studies of Southeast Asia because of the personal touch he brings to the classroom. He is nice to look at too..
IT's a class that you don't mind sitting through. You show up and before you know it, it is time to go. Very interesting and fun class. Anthropology 100

Great Class
Dr. Thomas is interesting to listen to, well-organized, his lectures are well put together and you will like attending his classes. He has a great sense of humor and applies his own experiences in the field to the class. I totally recommend him!!
Probably the most interesting general education class I took. He has a lot of knowledge and experence. Very interesting lectures. Great class!
amazing professor. You will learn so much and have a completely new look at things. Go to class and take notes.- but that not hard because he is Good Lookin'! Try not to daydream! ;)
This was such a good class. I didn't even know what anthropology was when I signed up and now I'm minoring in it, and it's because of his teaching. He makes the class so interesting and you actually want to show up
Mr. Thomas is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is smart, funny, clear, very friendly and approachable. As long as you attend class regularly and do your reading, he is not difficult. He offers extra credit opportunities. He is also pretty hot which makes attending class all the more worth while!
Professor Thomas is awesome! If you do the reading and attend class, it's not hard to get an A. And he is easy on the eyes.
This guy really knows his stuff. He has a lot of experience in the field. He is a good teacher and keeps you interested. He also cares a lot about the students and will help you in any way he can.
Fantastic teacher who knew a lot about the subject. He has been to Southeast Asia and has a lot of experience there. Highly recommended, except that there are some weeks with a really high amount of reading needed.
Such an amazing teacher! In this class the notes were more to enhance your essays than anything else, but he is a fair grader, a great teacher, and makes his subject interesting! I wasn't at all excited for Anthropology, but now I'm taking another course (From him, of course)
Lewis was an amazing teacher. Lots of reading but still quite easy. Knows a lot about the subject and captures your interest.
Lewis is a fantastic teacher. Incredibly knowledgable in his field, and incredibly gifted at teaching. Because of his Southeast Asia class, I switched my major to Anthropology! Take ANTH from him!!!
I have had a class with Lewis before. He is awesome. I just took his Anthropology to Mormonism class and he was very respectful of the religion and added a lot of Anthropologic insight to it. I took the summer class, and the reading was intense with two short essays and a précis for every reading, but the class was worth it and it was great!
I've taken two classes from Lewis, and will probably take the Peoples of SE Asia, at some point. He is interesting, knowledgeable, fair, approachable, and any other nice thing you can say about a professor. There is a fair amount of reading, but it's all very relevant. You learn a lot in his class. Also, the man is HOT!
Thomas is awesome! You can tell he loves what he does and enjoys teaching it!
The CMLT class was changed to Thomas' class of S.E. Asia. I highly recommend taking whatever classes Thomas teaches. He is one of the best professors I've had at ISU and I'm probably graduating next semester. I enjoyed every day of class. He really makes it interesting and you learn a lot.
great teacher, i learned the most from this class. very interesting. lots of reading, lots of essays (2 a week, and a final one) but worth it
reminds me of indiana jones!
Thomas is probably the BEST professor I have ever had. He doesn't teach from textbooks, but from his life experiences in the field. He was fair, kind, and personable with the students. Oh and him being good-looking made class even more enjoyable ;)
Amazing professor! He makes every day in class interesting and he really knows what he is talking about. There is a lot of reading but he usually only picks the good stuff. Really does bring to mind Indiana Jones :)
very efficient and clear. NO TESTS. but lots of readings and reviews. a few papers....but interesting topics, and over all a good class. And he is hot
As an older, yet worldly student, I have found this teacher to be excellent. I enjoy his lectures tremendously!! I never thought I would or could enjoy anthropology classes, yet here I am, writing about this great teacher. Prof Thomas makes me want to go to Burma and see this culture first hand.
Loved his class! Here's how you'll get an A: Class isnt mandatory BUT I highly recommend you go, many of his study guide topics come from the power points. Keep up with the reading, he gives reading quizzes every Thursday (5 questions, worth 10 pts). If you've got a question, he's more than happy to clarify in class.
Very clear when lecturing and likes to link his field experience into what you're currently learning. Exams are really extensive so don't put them off until the day before it's due. You don't need to go to class but I'd recommend going so you get more ideas for exam responses. I recommend it even if you aren't an anthro major/minor.
Very nice guy. I so failed that class and he gave me C- anyway:)
Well prepared and thought out discussion, not lectures. Always on time and ready to teach. Likes to link his research to his teaching. Very effective teacher.
Awesome teacher! Very laid back atmosphere in class, easy to follow and clear schedule. His interest in the subject and personal experiences woven into lectures made the class very interesting!
Professor Thomas was a fantastic teacher! He loves what he does, and makes class interesting. I took a summer class, so it was intense, but I learned a ton, and very doable. He is so willing to offer any suggestions on papers, and wants you to learn and succeed in his class. He's my most favorite professor I've ever had at ISU, and I've had a lot!
He is very professional, loves what he does.He has an amazing Energy and is very organized.
One of the most engaging, interesting, and interested professors I have had. I'm not even in his department, but I check every semester to see if I can fit a class of his into my schedule.
One of the greatest teachers. Professional, very helpful, and passionate about what he does.
Great teacher that understands the subject. Willing to help you understand. Welcomes experiences and opinions. Couldn't ask for a better teacher. I will be taking more of his classes when I can.
He's got some excellent stories about his travels in Burma, and teaches about the histories and cultures of the world. He's really easy to talk to in and outside of class.
Awesome Professor! He is so helpful and very well organized. I took his SE Asia class and really enjoyed it but be warned it's a lot of reading! I rarely took notes because what he said stuck in my head I was really pleased with the class. Definitely going to take more classes from him.
Great professor! I've never had a professor who makes a better test review sheet than he does. He really wants you to do well. He's like a real life Indiana Jones. ;)
Fantastic teacher!!! One of the best teachers I have ever had!! Super interesting!!
Lewis is most definitely the best professor I've had at Idaho State so far. Class attendance was not mandatory but I actually went because I wanted to...he made anthropology even more fascinating than it already is! Besides, he's adorable =)
AMAZING!!
I took ANTH2237 from Lewis. He is a great professor but man was this course tough. Don't take it unless you are fascinated with Burma and knowing all of the specific details of the country. He is very passionate about it (which is great) but if you aren't equally as interested in learning about the culture you won't enjoy this course. Lots of books
Lewis is hands down the BEST teacher I have ever had! Makes everything he teaches VERY interesting. This class was amazing because he has spent a substantial amount of time in Burma and other South East Asia countries. I highly recommend this class, or any OTHER class he teaches.
Professor Thomas is a very interesting guy with a ton of good things to say. He encourages class discussion and always gives good feedback on papers and summaries. There was a lot of read for this class, but it was mostly interesting and always pertained to the class. I would suggest taking any of his classes!
I took Anthropology of Mormonism through Professor Thomas and I was really impressed. He knows his stuff and allowed us to create our own opinions based off the readings. The papers for this class aren't super long but still require some thought. Overall, he was a great professor.
Great teacher! I was inspired
He's great! Good lectures, specific and to the point. Study and you'll pass, papers are long but have good meaning to what you're writing about. Overall nice guy and good at his job. Recommend strongly.
Honestly he was a really good teacher.. I just hated the subject. Be prepared to learn more than you ever thought you wanted to know about Burma.
This class was super easy. I took the honors section for it too. It was really only necessary to show up when we turned things in, but as long as you keep up with the readings and responses it's super easy. No tests or quizzes either. He's also really funny and a great guy to talk to. Beware to talk a lot about Burma though!
Great great great professor. I took Anthropology of South East Asia with him. He loves what he teaches and wants his students to learn about SE Asia. Attendance was not mandatory but if you do not attend it will be very difficult to pass his class. I really enjoyed his lectures but I would also have to record them and that would help me study.
He's pretty organized and structured in class during lectures and discussions, but most - if not all - of the actual work that needs to be done has to be done outside of class.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He knows the subject and is passionate about it. His lectures are incredibly interesting and I only wish I'd taken the course before I was so far into my degree so I could have minored in Anthropology. He's funny, friendly, open and helpful. I'm so grateful I took this class.
I really struggled in this class because i chose not to do the readings, DO THE READINGS! the material is pretty boring and hard to pay attention but if you do the work you are fine. go to the lectures because he will have guest speakers and use what they say on the test.
He's really interested in what he's teaching, which makes the class interesting! He's got a lot of stories and examples from his own experiences which has been really cool. He assigns a lot of reading, but overall nothing too crazy.
Dr. Thomas is super cool. His lectures are interesting and engaging. As long as you do the work (which includes the reading) you will definitely get an A. He is like a real life Indiana Jones.
Professor Lewis is my favorite by teacher. I took Anthropology of Southeast Asia under him, and it was my favorite class. Professor Lewis' stories are fascinating. He's an anthropologist who spends a lot of time in Burma/Myanmar. His first-person stories are amazing. I've learned so much under him that I have applied to real life conversations.
One of the best professors I've had at ISU Professor Lewis is very inspiring and makes you think about thing from a different perspective. If you put the time in you will receive an A in this class. He wants all of his students to succeed. Awesome class!
Professor Thomas is one of my favorite professors that I have ever had. He teaches an in depth study of Southeast Asia and shares his own personal experiences throughout the semester. The books that we read for the class are very interesting and if you get your reading done, you will pass with flying colors.
This class was very interesting and I loved the topics we focused on. He really loves his field of anthropology and it shows. The readings can be a bit much sometimes but it's never really boring and I learn a lot. Jus do the readings, turn in your weekly responses and you'll easily get an A or B.
Good teacher learned a lot of information. Its cool he has actually been to some of the places he is teaching us about. Usually don't have to be their Fridays. Just do the reading and pay attention in class and you will do well. He also gives lots of extra credit.
Great professor.
He is one of the few professors I've actually liked. He knows what he's talking about because he's actually been to SEA and he has first hand experience. Be prepared to read a lot, and don't fall behind though because the tests are all on readings. He offers a lot of extra credit thankfully. Also you watch a few movies/clips!
This is a class about SE Asia. We do cover all of the country but none of them compare to Burma. Everything goes back to Burma. He is a little obsessed with Burma. It's understandable because that is where he focuses his studies but it's excessive at times. He is an easy going professor. He provides excellent reviews. No assignments are too hard.
Lewis was my very first college instructor. To put this simply, if I didn't have two kids and a wife, I would have changed my major to anthropology without a second thought. He opened up in me a passion for anthropology that would never have been revealed otherwise. Take his course!
No taken attendance.
I enjoyed this class very much. He is very passionate about what he teaches and you can certainly tell in his lectures. If you try in this class at all you will pass. He was an overall great professor and I would highly recommend.
Very awesome and very in tune with his career. He understands concepts and loves explaining them. He can definitely go on and on about certain topics, but most of the topics are interesting so most students dont mind too much. All in all, hes how a professor should be.
This class really changed my perspective. Overall the class was simple, but there was a lot of reading and papers involved. Some people say that you don't have to do the reading, but I advise you to at least skim. My only complaints were that he was a bit disorganized and so,e of his lectures were a little repetitive. Great class!
Awesome professor. You can tell that he is really enthusiastic about his job and he really wants his students to understand and do well. I learned more in this class than any of my other classes. Definitely one of my favorite classes.
The instructor is passionate about the materials. Attendance is not taken.
I took his intro class last Spring and had a blast. He truly enjoys the subject, and is willing to discuss it in depth. He cares about his students, and is willing to put the effort in to helping when he can. Can be slow to respond to emails though. I'm taking another class of his, if that says anything at all. 10/10 would recommend.
This class required an extensive amount of reading with weekly quizzes. He is pretty straight forward about what he expects and what is on the exams. You can tell he enjoys his job but he tends to mumble a lot. He provides a lot of helpful materials and cracks jokes in class. If you're going to take an anthropology class, take one from him.
Dr. Thomas was one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures made the class fun and you truly learn a lot from him. Just three exams in the class, weekly write ups and make sure you use his study guides and you'll do fine on the exams. Will definitely miss this class and his funny lectures, highly recommend this class for objective 6.
Great professor. He is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches and really looks at many sides of issues with an open perspective. He does require reading, but most of the material is very enjoyable. I would highly recommend taking a class from him.
Small papers about your thoughts on the reading are due each week (less than 1 page). 1 3 page paper. All exams are multiple choice. Funny, quirky, dad jokes, gives lots of extra credit and has great stories.
Lewis is seriously my favorite professor I've had! He truly has taught me a lot! He is hilarious and I love his lectures. I definitely recommend this professor! Make sure you do you weekly readings because that is a lot of your grade!
One of my favorite professors! Very in touch with students and passionate about topics
Amazing professor 100% would take a class from him again
Dr. Thomas is the best professor in the world, hands down. He is really funny, really easy to talk to, and obviously cares a lot about his students and their success. If you go to ISU, take a class from him. You won't regret it.
Lots of reading & power points. He offers extra credit throughout. Take notes and pay attention you will pass.
He's a great professor and very knowledgeable and passionate about Anthropology. Gives detailed feedback about writing assignments and has open class discussions that are productive and helpful. Highly recommend!!
Lewis is a down to Earth guy. He really taught me to take a holistic approach to life. It's easy to look at other cultures, and judge. But to me, life isn't about judging, it's about understanding. He does have 5 to 10 pages of reading a week, but as you become more open minded, its FUN. If you need anthropology for your major, give him a shot!
This class was a breeze. We had weekly reading assignments with little worksheets and a few tests, but (as far as I can remember), it was all open-book. Being in his classroom felt safe? I dunno how else to say that. It was just a really comfortable and inviting environment. Very good teacher.
Amazing teacher, super interesting class, good assignments that made sense and helped you learn, and open book take home tests that were essentially essays. Loved it, would definitely take it again.
Excellent prof. Great stories about Burma.
Professor Thomas isn't a bad teacher. He is very nice and his class is not super hard. You do not have to go to class but if you don't you probably wont pass because his tests are based off lectures in class. The only thing i didn't like about him is he NEVER answers emails. Other than that he is very nice and easy class.
Great Professor very respected I would take his class again in a heartbeat
Amazing lectures and a very easy grader. I am very happy I took this class. There is a solid amount of reading and a few papers on them but the class was very easy and he gives you as many points as possible. Very easy A.
There is maybe one or two group assignments but they are pretty easy. His tests are a bit on the difficult side but he gives you a review sheet with the materials you need to prepare for them. You can take the class both online and in the classroom and he doesn't really care about attendance as log as you do your assignments on time.
There is a reading assignment every week, but it is usually always an easy read and the only homework is to answer 2-3 questions on the reading. Tests are very easy for the most part. Sometimes the wording is tricky and you really have to READ each question. He is an awesome professor.
I've only been to class like 3 times this entire semester because he always cancels. if you want easy honors credit take this class. but you also have to read so much stupid crap
This class was extremely easy, however, there was tons of assigned reading due nearly every week of the semester. Some of the reading was interesting, while some were extremely boring. Otherwise, this class was totally fine. As long as you do the homework and show up to class, it should be an easy pass.
He seems like a passionate guy, but this class was a ton of unnecessary reading and writing. I wrote more papers in this class than any English class I've ever taken. He assigns things as if they are super easy and short, and you end up reading 500 pages of a book and writing 3000 words. He also never grades anything, he just gave us all A's.
Class did get canceled on multiple occasions but everything I needed to do well in the class was posted online. Professor Thomas himself is a pretty fun professor. There is reading every week, but if you space it out over a few days, it's manageable. The homework was a bunch of easy quizzes over the readings and one 6 page essay at the end.
he was very kind and funny! However, he always cancelled class and had a crap ton of reading every week. easy class though and fair grader
He is very passionate about his field! There is a lot of reading, but you don't need to read every single thing all the way. Yes there is a lot of typing, but the prompts are easy and open to interpretation. When he cancelled class it was due to circumstances that were outside of his control. I highly recommend him if interested in anthropology!
This class was really laid back and a nice break from my more difficult classes. He was obviously interested in the pirate material, and was a cool dude. He brings in cool pirate stuff for some lectures. Lectures aren't necessary, just read the book/articles and take the weekly quizzes, and do the final project essay, and you'll be fine.
Lewis is an amazing instructor, I would take any class from him.
Gives the best feedback! Very kind but still constructive, great at trying to make sure everyone understands. Pretty funny during lectures and in class. Good at simplifying the materials when needed so that students can understand, isn't arrogant or touchy about his 'higher intellect' we could say. Very personable and friendly.
Professor Thomas is passionate about the subject matter, but the class has a lot of reading and writing. The workload can be heavy, but the assignments are fair. Using tools like unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me manage the workload. Overall, an engaging class if you're interested in anthropology.
Amazing professor, would take again a million times over. He cares about the students greatly and even offered to buy healthy food for those who couldn't afford it. He is hilarious and always makes a point to include everyone. Take his class if you can!
