You can learn from this man, but you have to listen carefully. Best I've had
Absolute genius (extremely smart guy) in math. Loves to talk about math. Very enthusiastic makes you want to learn. Got B in class and studied hard- tests and quizzes tough. Take HIM if you are doing Engineering or will take upper level math courses.
Li is the best professor I have ever had. His enthusiasm made math fun! He is an excellent professor, the best PCC has to offer! You won't be disappointed to take his class;but it will require a lot of work and probably extra help-his door is always open!
Take this guy if you are going to be an engineer. It will really pay off if you take your classes with Zhou. Math will be easy when you leave his class to go do a major in engineering.
This professor is one of the best I've ever taken. Take him if you love math. Under his lead, the PCC won First (team and individual) in the Florida Mathematics Olympics held during March-April 2003. He is a great teacher and an excellent coach.
The nicest and most helpful professor I have ever met. He absolutely loves math and opens his door for help. His tests are not easy though and can be brain twisters even for the most prepared. But when you do pass his course though, you'll walk out with such a high level of math than ever before.
Zhou is an intelligent guy and he knows his Calculus very well. His class is one where you can understand the material, yet do ghastly on his tests.
Very nice guy, but I could barely understand what he was saying.
Math is not one of my favorite courses but his love of math is so adorable and it rubs off on the students...not only that but i feel 100% more confident in my math skills after taking his class.
Zhou was a good professor but his speech was difficult to comprehend. He was always there to help though.
Hard, but for a good reason. Learn the stuff back to front bc you will be thoroughly tested on every little detail. If you stick with it, and put alot of effort in, you will come away from his class with a good understanding of Calc.
I am not sure we all had the same guy, but I did not find him enjoyable. He is brilliant but has no business teaching. He spent more time telling us we were bad students than he did teaching. At least half the class failed or walked away with a D. Avoid unless a genius and want to be challenged!
He helped me to understand "why" and how algebra applied to the real world. Not only is he a wonderful teacher, but an extremely caring human being. Going into a classroom where the teacher always had a big smile helped make algebra a lot more tolerable.
Very helpful....I made a D in the class, but hehelped me to understand the material better than I thought I ever could. Took the class with another prof, and aced it....Made his class hard, but in turn when I took it else where, it was too easy...
Unless you're absolutely brilliant in math like he is - and I mean...REALLY brilliant in that math is your life, you enjoy studying mathematicians and math theories, then by all means take him. But for the rest of us, his class can be next to impossible. He's too focused on brainteasing math problems than he is getting to the exact concepts.
One word can sum up Zhou: Awesome. This class is very easy if you study, do the homework, and most importantly, *understand the concepts*, and you'll do fine. He's very visual, and is always willing to go the extra mile for anyone. As far as relations go, he's a very nice fellow, and is always making jokes. Take his classes, you'll be pleased.
Super nice person, but truly teaches far beyond the abilities of the"average" student. 3/4 of the class dropped. 1st one I had to drop, but still kept going just to learn. He will help anyone. Question is, will you get it?
He is a great math teacher. He is not easy, but you will leave the class actually understanding what you learned. As long as you do your homework and ask lots of questions you will be fine. He LOVES for you to ask questions so don't be emberassed to.
This was by far the most difficult professor I have ever had. He does not need to be teaching lower level math. He skips things "you should already know", which can be a problem if you don't. Willing to help his students, if you can understand him and his teaching technique. Roughly 32 people started this class, 3 passed.
i went in hating math, it was an extremely hard class, but not only did i learn alot i found a new respect for math..he really opens your eyes to what he loves...math
He is a nice guy, but does not know how to teach, he expects you to know alot. I guess they are more advance in china.
He's very difficut and the tests are hard. That's what I wanted though. I don't like the easy classes, don't feel as if I accomplished much when I get me "easy A",
Worst prof I've had. Tests/Quizzes are unfair and involve solving cute math problems rather than material. He's too cerebral to teach and expects you to be at his level of knowledge. I dropped the class with a grade of 27%. I've retaken this class & other advanced courses with other profs and got A's and B's and minoring in math. Avoid him.
BRILLIANT mathematician. Extremely knowledgeable. No one compares to his love, dedication, passion, & ENTHUSIASM in math. He teaches to a point where you'll understand the importance of the topic in real life. Yes, he's a hard teacher, but if you can do well on his tests, the final will be a piece of cake. Homework's a must if you want to do well!
He's a nice guy, but expects you to know more than what you should going in to the class. He is a VERY hard teacher and is extremely overly excited about math. Unless you plan on dedicating your entire semester to this one class, I do NOT recommend taking him!
I had him for Basic and Intermediate Algebra. I really liked him a lot. You must go to class and do all of your homework. He is a GREAT teacher! I wish I could have taken him for College Algebra.
He's a VERY hard teacher. I don't recommend him. The only way someone can passes his class is if the person took previous classes w/him. Not like me...I took College Algebra 10 years ago, and he expects me to remember.
I took the summer session college algebra. Prof. Zhou WANTS you to know & understand math. He shows you why things are true. He gives good study tips & tests were always just like the homework. Coll. alg. was hard, no doubt about it, not an easy A. He's a smart man, take his advice when he offers it.
I personally did not care for his teaching style. He got very upset when asked for help. You are pretty much left to figure the math out on your own.
Prof. Zhou is a mathematical genius and a superb teacher. I strongly recommend him to anyone taking math.
Smart man; hard professor. Expects you to know the material... I personally didn't like his teaching style because he doesn't show many examples. I had difficulty understanding him not only because he didn't explain well, but also due to his thick accent. I would not take another class with him.
I did not particularly like this teacher. Very thick accent and doesn't give many concrete examples. Sometimes he's clear, but most of the time, his material is pretty vague. Homework is optional. His teaching style is very mental and not too visual. Expects you to know the material. Would not recommend taking without being very math inclined.
Very Hard. tends to think everyone should already know everything. If one person in the class gets it then he moves on. Doesn't explain the important details but goes on and on about useless information.
he's very helpful but says lame jokes
This guy gives crystal clear lectures, and his tests are super easy. I barely studied and got a B.
If you want an easy A, don't take this professor. If you want to learn and truly understand the subject, he is the best I have met. Homework is not turned in or graded, but if you don't do it, you won't pass the tests or quizzes. Great personality, always willing to help you understand a concept.
Unless you understand math very easily or want to spend hours studying I would not take his class. He is nice as a person but talks down to the class regularly and wastes time every single class lecturing and how we need to study study study hours and hours and hours. Can not wait until end of semester.
He talks down to the class and doesn't explain things properly.
What the heck are you all complaining about? If you opened a book, this work shouldn't be hard... here is a hint, try studying if you can't get by with minimal effort. Works like a charm, eh? Prof gets a 6.5/10.
I could sneeze on a paper and make an A. However, this was beyond the HARDEST class I have ever taken and dropped it on the fear of academic suicide. If you are secretly a math wizard take it, but if you're not then I would highly advise you not to. Nice guy who genuinely LOVES math, tough class.
Don't take this class if you aren't a math wizard. Goes over homework day of test. Doesn't seem to connect to students that don't get math easily. Smiled when handing out test papers and saying over half of us didn't get above 60% and that means we all didn't study enough.
Worst professor at Polk State.
Has a lot of enthusiasm for math, he really loves what he does
Terrible professor. Couldn't care less if you have trouble understanding the lesson. You don't have a chance to practice anything before you're tested on it. I did my homework with a tutor 3 times a week and never passed an assignment. Steer clear of this professor if you want to pass.
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Zhou is clear in his lectures, but he tries to cover too much too quickly. He can be hard to understand sometimes; he'll begin to talk in a whisper for no reason. If you take this class, be prepared for so much homework and hard tests. You will NOT pass this class without doing math constantly.
Li Zhou is a great Professor. A bit tough, but only because he expects the best out of you and believes that you will perform your best. He will help you in any way he can. All you have to do is ask. Plenty of homework which honestly helps you a great deal because all the quizzes and tests are like it. His knowledge on math history is amazing.
Put in the hard work and you will pass with an A like I did. He helped the whole class by getting each students' grade increase by a letter without any curve by increasing quizzes and offering more help. Truly an amazing Math Professor. The best I've ever had in my life. Tough, but when you advance you'll love him for it. Very inspirational. Enjoy!
Tough grader; lots of homework. Tests are harder than the homework and in class exercises.
I absolutely regret taking this professor. No help at all, if you want to fail take this class.
Professor is a very tough grader. Goes off on a tangent and sometimes gets lost about taking about stuff
He expects everyone to get the material and if you dont he believes its your fault and that we didnt study enough, i remeber him saying if we fail we dont care about our future he gives quizzes everyother class period and
Zhou is a nice person and I'm sure he'd made a great professor as well if he didn't try to cover so much material at once. While lecturing he ends up talking about the history of math which wastes class time that could be used to teach the lesson effectively. Hard grader but gives partial credit at times.
Very nice, inspirational, and you will learn a lot with this professor. He has a funny sense of humor and his personality is uplifting. However, don't be expecting an easy pass. Your work will be cut out for you. If you don't have a lot of free time, are working, etc. it's best to find another professor.
Prof. Li is a very dedicated mathmatician and he really cares about the education he is providing to his students. The course itself was difficult, but Li does his best to provide plenty of concepts if you dont really understand the first one explained. Do, your homework, attend class, and if you need help hes always willing to explain things 4 U
This professor is a genius. You'll learn so much in his class, and he is very encouraging. Personally, the course was too vigorous for me, and I had to withdraw. Very, very challenging professor, but through the challenge you learn a lot. When you do your homework, do all of the problems. He knows which ones students skip. He tests on every detail.
He is a terrible teacher. His tests are nothing from what he teaches. Also he teaches differently from the book, yet he wants us to do 5o questions a night to learn from the book. If you are not good at math I recommend that YOU DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I've struggled a lot through College Alrebra with Zhou but he's a good professor- you just have to really work for your grade. If math is your thing you should be good! He wants you to succeed and the material isn't impossible, but I've just found that his tests are particularly harder than the homework. If you're a hard worker he's worth taking!
Mr. Zhou is a amazing professor! He is clear about what he wants you to do, and will help you achieve success if you ask for it. Work hard, do the homework, and go to office hours. I took two of his math courses and did well.
Many people over-exaggerate Professor Zhou's class. What he expects from his students is very simple: come to class, take notes, ask questions if necessary, go home and do the homework, and come back prepared for discussion. The class is only difficult if YOU don't apply yourself and you fall behind.
I personally do not enjoy math at all, but Professor Zhou is a great teacher. As long as you do the homework and assignments you will pass the tests/the class. Just apply yourself and study. The tests are literally the same format as the paper assignments you go over in class. He really knows his stuff Highly recommend him. Currently have a 102%
He explains stuff very well. As long as you pay attention you will pass very easily.
This class was hard. All the homework was online and it had so many questions for each section. The homework takes forever to do dont wait last minute to do it. His test are just like his activity sheets so if you dont understand the activity you will fail the test. Hes a tough grader on the test too.
Li Zhuo only gives us one example and moves on to the next. If you dont know how to do it, forget about even asking for help in the classroom. I have a humanities professor that explains more things than he does and to be more specific humanities teacher just needs to give us notes and write it down. Math is more complex, We cant read from a book
He is very kind and seems to care about the students. He tries his best to explain the material but there is a language barrier. He sometimes does not understand the students and they sometimes do not understand him. Children are rude to him because of it. I've never been good at math but the class is shockingly easy if you just show up.
Its not that he isnt a good teacher , he doesnt seem to have the patience. Ill ask him a question and hell tell me to refer to a problem he done on the bored But seem like hell help everyone else. And hell try to shove so much into the hour or so and expect you to understand next class for the quiz which was very week.
He grades really hard. Isnt interested in teaching in another perspective; he teaches the students like we already learned and mastered the work. Gives way too much homework to do in a short amount of time. He gives 2-5 question quizzes on chapters we havent fully gotten through but grades them like we have . Terrible teacher if you suck at math.
He's a professor that loves math but for teaching it, he's not good. He makes students feel dumb for not knowing the content even when asking for help. He teaches a lot of guessing to find the right number which eats up class time. He uses mymathlab for homework. He's not flexible to anything. If you are bad in math, I would not recommend him.
The professor has a passion for math but is terrible at explaining things. He teaches a lot of guessing and makes you feel small for not knowing it. I leave class more confused than when I went in. The professor teaches like 3 different ways, MML and then the tutor teaches another way. It's very confusing for someone who is horrible in math.
I wouldn't wish this class on my worst enemy! He expects you to do almost 200 problems for homework regardless of your other classes, work, or home life. He's an absurdly tough grader who won't accept any work unless you do it his way, and when we had to finish online at the end he was even more unforgiving with his grading&assigned even MORE work!
When we transitioned to online he gave me marks off of my tests because I didn't show enough work, seemingly proving that I was cheating. Prior to that, he kept reminding us that he wasn't expecting to teach such a low-level course and telling us the material wasn't hard, while most of us were having a really hard time in the course.
Professor Zhou is intelligent yet strict. You will have to work hard for a good grade despite the ease of Algebra. There are no multiple choice questions; either you get it or you don't. He will remove full credit if the work is wrong but the answer is right- very black and white mentality. He ridiculed students who didn't understand quickly.
Unless you are ok w/ teaching yourself by relying on the textbook and sources other than the professor himself, then do NOT take this class w/ this professor. He does not explain concepts clearly. He assigns homework via MyMathLab so expect spend many hours solving and referring to the etext for help since the online lectures are a waste of time.
He ridicules you for not knowing answers or getting things wrong. He laughs right at you. Makes attendance mandatory but doesnt actually teach you anything during the lectures. Just tells you to go get tutoring. Worst math class ever
Not a nice teacher. Would make unnecessary comments if students didn't understand something. Expected students to already know the material. Would penalize you if you don't have immediate access to funds for school books. Had a complaint if you were late less than a minute, or wanted to use the restroom, but he would be late to class.
If you are seeking a degree that is unrelated to math/will need very minimal math later in life than you might want to pick a easier teacher. If you are seeking a engineering degree, or interested in math outside of academics than their is no better teacher at Polk State College IMO.
This professor is terrible at teaching and hard to understand him, He is extremely tough grader either you know the material or you dont at all. He sends a tons of homework in my Mathlab so be prepared specially if you are taking his class as a prerequisite.
He teaches as if you already know the material. If 1 person gets it then he just moves on to the next subject. Blamed us for not understanding the material and claimed we just didnt care enough to learn. Made smart remarks about those that didnt understand and laughed about it. This class will have you pressed and stressed.
I barely scraped by with an A in this class because it is quite difficult. However, Zhou is an incredibly smart guy, very enthusiastic about what he's teaching, and really wants you to love math as much as he does. I'm taking Calc 3 now, 2 years later, and just thought about how grateful I am to have such a good understanding of trig because of him
While I did pass with an A, I definitely worked for it. If you're a really bright student you can get an A, if you're average I would be careful and see if anyone else is available. While passionate about math, he's not the best at explaining things.
While Professor Zhou's class was a tough one, I would strongly recommend anyone who enjoys (or even just tolerates) math to take his class. His passion for mathematics is very obvious, and he explains topics in such depth - a way that you could never learn from a textbook or from simply memorizing formulas to pass. He is an awesome professor!
Professor Zhou is among the best math professors at Polk State! He always makes sure every student understands the material and is always willing to explain further. It is incredibly obvious he loves math and he enjoys sharing his passion with his students. Thanks to Professor Zhou, I understand math better than I ever have before!
Started class with 17 people, ended with 4 because everybody withdrew, including me. Not completely his fault, Precalc/Trig is very difficult. This class required >18 hours a week, basically a part-time job. He is a good professor and dives into the history of the material. He uses the hardest questions from HW on tests. Don't take MAC1147.
Didn't understand him at all. expects you to know math right away. If you struggle with math DO NOT take him.
I was an online student and Honorlock kept flagging me for things I was not doing and he was not understanding at all and I was failing all of the tests so there was no way I was cheating. You also need to teach yourself all of the material and his lectures are so lengthy and uninformative. Do not take if you have other priorities/responsibilities.
Overall, he was a nice dude, but he spent more time focused on how awful modern math is then actually teaching us the material. Constantly made comments on how we were probably going to fail and was just super discouraging. I work a full-time job and was taking his class and he didn't make it easy with how much homework he assigned.
Zhou is math savvy, but not great at answering questions when put in difficult wording. His teaching style is not for visual learners. He will not award extra credit in the case that you fail. 60% of your grade is tests. On top of all this, half the students dropped this class, some stopped showing up for tests even after the withdrawal deadline.
He does not work with you and provides little help.
This was one of the worst classes I ever taken definitely do not take this teacher he doesn't teach very well. I withdrew from his class.
