very cool and helpful.
An entusiastic teacher, excited about introducing you to the French culture and language. Attendence is MAJOR! That's where your oral grade comes from. Tests are drawn from the homework, and the take-home essays really boost your grade. A lot of fun.
The best study abroad instructor I've ever had. Grading is very fair. Takes learning outside of the classroom into consideration. I could find no one better to go study abroad with. Fives would do no justice to rate the passion she ignites in students.
She is so sweet and good teacher. I wish she could speak slower;) but she is sooo good
She is very nice and will help you, but you dont learn anything in her class. Most students only take her because she's easy and fun, but you still wont learn anything.
My second and best French class ever! Lia is sooo passionate her energy is tangible. I've had only year of francais and thanks to her I speak with ease and understanding. Best language teacher at OCC hands down!
She speaks fast, but excellent. Attendance is very important...you'll get a good grade just for showing up and participating. She assigns take home essays as part of the test. She throws a party at the end of the semester at her house.
Lia is a wonderful teacher. Yes,attendance is important-be there! If she feels you are really trying, you should get a good grade. You DO learn from her. I went to France for a month after 280 and had a great time because I could speak and read some. She is passionate, and shares real world info. Those who say she was rude to them, were rude first!
she is definitely passionate about french. attendance is a must. i didnt like the fact that she had favorites. she's also anal about the little things like homework and attendance. felt like i was in grade school again. but overall, she is a good teacher; knows the subject inside out. just do the homework and study!
show interest in the subject and you'll find yourself on her good side. exams are very easy. compositions are nothing to worry about. sometimes her explanations of grammar points aren't very clear, but overall i learned a lot. plus she's a real sweetheart.
Seriously the best French professor I've had! Just show up (attendance is a must), have your book, and do your homework. As long as you show her that you're trying and actually learning something from the class, she'll give you a good grade. Just talk in class and you'll be one of her "favorites," and she'll base your grade off of that.
Lia is a sweetheart. Her class is very easy if you attend, pay attention, and do your homework. It's not difficult to get on her good side. I enjoyed her class but she does choose favorites. She's funny because she will just ignore you if she doesn't like what your saying, it's pretty funny to watch. Anyways, good teacher.
Lia is a sweetie. She plays favorites, but just show that you try and you will be one of them. I also studied abroad in Paris during the summer with her and she was a little psycho-but I think just because she was really excited. If she doesnt like you it is obvious, if she does you most likely will get an A.
Tres gentille! (very nice), haha. If you show her that you WANT to learn French; you're automatically one of her favorites. Pretty active class (no skits or anything though). She might come off a little condescending, but that's only towards the people who give her attitude and/or when you don't know the answer to a very easy question. Recommended!
Didn't like going to class. lots of hw,doesn't check it but do it bc we go over it in class and she tends to pick on people. very easy class. no in class exams/essays. all take home tests. she's a bit weird. but yea, take her for an easy A.
This is my second semmester with her..She deff. has her favorites, but its not difficult to be on that mental list she has.Just attend class and participate. I noticed if you dress like a metro-sexual, she will tell you you look 'french/stylish' and point you out to the class and again, earning brownie points. Dont get on her**** list and its cool
All these reviewers are ridiculous. Lia is an awesome teacher. With any foreign language you get what you put in. She is always willing to help during office hours or after class. She WANTS to help you, but you have to want to learn. She does pick favorites like some people said but it's not hard to be one of them. Just show up and participate.
She will not waste your time!Very sharp, energetic, passionate teacher. Focus is on speaking french more than reading/writing. Here grading is easy on exams, but you can not help but learn a lot if you just show up to class.
she is the best teacher ever, i took her for 5 semesters already and one of them was in her abroad class in paris france. she is so much fun, very knowlagable, she is really proud to be french so dont get into any arguments regarding france because she will hate you. but other than that shw is very sweet and helpfu.
A wonderful experience. Treats students like adults and expects that you will do homework for your own benefit. Immerses you in French culture and encourages you to speak and to feel comfortable practicing even if your French isn't perfect. Smart and warm.
She is so sweet. I would recommend a little background in french though. I don't know how beginners caught on so fast. Because she is all listening basically, hardly any actual writing (except for exams). The visual part isn't really there. If you don't go to class don't take her, she hates that. She is really passionate. I'd recommend her.
she's awesome. she's totally sweet and cares about her students. this class is really easy and if you try, she likes you. you really need to come to class, though. if you aren't going to come, you should email her with your reason and she's cool about it... just don't miss often. she is awesome and i highly recommend her class!!!
She's kind of crazy, but it's a great class. You HAVE to show up or you will fall behind (if you don't, though, email her). There are times that she speaks a million words a minute and no one is with her, but on the whole if you are up to date with your work, you will do great.
She's a sweet person, but she will throw you under the bus if you don't show up to class, I admit I've missed 5 classes and she really didn't like me...but towards the end of the semester I participated more and she saw improvement and efforts on my part, so I ended up getting an A in her class.(but I always had A's in all her exams) STUDY VOCABS!
Lia is wonderfully sweet. Make sure to attend class, and if you cannot make one or two lectures: let her know. As long as you study vocabulary and show up in class, you will have a brilliant time!
She is a very understandable. She tries to make have a little fun now and then, but at the same she also gives us work, but also you have to do is go to class and participate and you'll get an A. Trust me!
Lia is such a sweet lady. As long as you come to class and participate you'll do great. She makes class thing fun.
She's nice (like most French people). U shouldn't take this class if you don't know any French. She's not gonna explain much about grammar. Moreover, everything is spoken in French. SO you will be lost if you never had French before. However, you still fine if you learn hard.
ATTENDING
It's all about attendance and participation. She enjoys students who are interested in learning the language. Tests are written, but everything tested is stuff you learn over and over again in class. So if you put in the time, you're bound to get an A..!
lia is adorable. yeah she jumps on your butt if you dont get to class, but as long as you do well on the super easy exams and show you can speak french its all god. i missed a lot of classes but i still got a A becuase she liked me :)
Lia is such a sweet woman. She sincerely wants to share her enthusiasm with her students. This makes class fun.Attendance is essential. She tends towards favoritism, and will give you a hard time if you miss class or homework assignments. She doesn't explain grammar very well, and you may need to do some of your own research. Still, such a fun class!
Such an amazingly sweet woman. I've taken her for three semesters and it's rare to form relationships with your class and prof like you do in hers! 285 has almost no exams but two papers and an oral at the end. However, the homework load significantly increases. Still easy if you pay attention and participate in class.
This class I didn't do as well as I usually do, I turned in the two papers a day late :/. I still got an A though. She bases your grade a lot on if you like the language and participate. Seriously if your taking a language please make sure you like that language. Do the homework, participate, and you get an A.
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! MUST DEFINITELY TAKE HER!! SHE IS AWESOME
I took French 180 and 185 with her, and yes she picks favs, but usually with people that work hard and show up on time. If you pay attention in class and avoid texting, and make an effort, you will be one of her favs, and the class will be so much more fun for you after.
Lia is an amazing teacher and a great influence on all of her students. I highly recommend her and for everyone that said that you have to attend - I'm sorry but how do you expect to learn any language if you don't attend class? It is imperative that you attend class and participate in order to learn a language. Do everything and you'll get an A++!
Dunno what the comment below me is talking about. You only need to do 2 things to survive: do hw, and most of all, PARTICIPATE!! When she asks questions, raise your hand & answer as many as u can or at least try. She picks those that participate a lot as her favorites & gives em As. So even if u ace exams, u still won't get an A w/o participation
Absolutely show up on time, don't text, do the homework, show that you care and participate. This is how she picks her favorites. She likes the students who care. If this is too hard for you, feel free to quit school now. She is an amazing teacher who genuinely wants her students to learn the language. She teaches you to learn without translating.
Lia is a very passionate teacher. She loves what she teaches and wants every student to love learning languages. If you participate and smile she will love you. VERY EASY A. Just show up to class, do your homework, do not text, and try your hardest.
Prof. Raileanu is nice, helpful, and very lenient. Classroom is always alive when she is there. You must participate, show interest, and speak french to obtain the grade you desire. Don't text, show up late, show up w/o hw, etc. Lastly, be a committed student and you will get an 'A.'
This was my 3rd semester with Lia and I just have to share how amazing she is. She truly shows an interest in her students and takes pride in them. She will treat you with respect, so as long as you do in return. Come to class, show interest, be respectful, do your homework and you'll get an A. Otherwise, good luck!
She'll divide students into ignored students, acceptable students, and favorite students. Who will go to French in summer will be her favorite, do homework, attend class every day, you will be acceptable. She is not fair and has a weird love about her France. But if you study, you can get easy A.
I started taking Lias class in French 180 knowing no French, now I'm in French 285. She has a delightful personality. French 180 & 185 were easy, but for 280 & 285 it does get a little more intense. She's the reason I want to combine French with my major. Show respect because I've seen students on her bad side (not pretty) also be motivated
Mme Lia is a blast! She's a very funny lady but don't irritate her or she will call you out and ignore you till you conform. She is extremely passionate about her work and wants everyone to succeed, for this reason she'll try to weed out slackers early on. Do the work, be respectful and participate. No cell phones/comps, shes old school. Love that!
Lia is a great teacher. She's very eccentric (a bit crazy) and incredibly passionate about what she teaches. As long as you come into her class with at least half the enthusiasm she has, she should like you. However she does play favorites, and as long as you give her a reason to like you, you should do fine. Great teacher, great lady.
i never taught i could learn french so easy. attend all the classes and do all the homework, you will not only get an easy A, you will speak and understand french quite well! you just need to put some effort. she only assigns little homework which only take a few minutes, but if you do it well and read it out loud to yourself, you'll be fine.
Lia is a genius when it comes to teaching foreign language. But she is tough! There is a ton of homework and daily studying to get an A. Attendance is VERY important to her and she makes it known that she feels that way. She can get a little intense with her expectations but it's only because she cares that you walk out of her class speaking French
If you have a real desire to learn to speak French then take her class. She is actually from France which helps tremendously. I loved her class and am planning to take this semester also.
Lia! If you have a real passion to learn French there is no better professor to learn it from than Lia. A true French woman herself she not only makes French fun to learn but encourages her students to apply it to everyday life. She's very honest and also gives helpful tips on how to retain a new language. Take her class you won't regret it!
I showed up for every single class and participated. That's really all she asks for. Some people really didn't like her, but I found her funny. She will make it clear that she doesn't really like you if you don't participate, are absent and don't do homework. Since I actually have a desire to learn the language, I enjoyed her class.
If you are mature, want to learn French, are willing to accept criticism, and if you do what she asks of you and show up to all or most class meetings, this is a fun class that you will be surprised at how much you know and can understand after. Lia is a good professor who knows the subject well, and if you do your part, you will learn a lot.
Lia is so sweet. She is unclear sometimes on what the homework is but if you miss it once or twice she'll just make you feel bad for a second then move on. If you participate and try you will get an A. She is very passionate about french culture and wants her students to be a part of it. This class is not for people that hate being called on.
Prof. Raileanu is the best language teacher I've ever had. Don't pay attention to reviews that call her "rude". At the end of the day, she is French and her personality is quirky but adorable. She's an easy A, but is a pro at helping you understand the language. Make sure you print out all the handouts.
First, Lia is French and very proud of it. She may come off judgy, but it's never mean-spirited. She wants everybody to speak French at all times, watch French TV, etc. H/W is a must! She checks. Also, prep. to write a lot of papers and never toss them. She calls on people and has a steel bear trap memory about absences, texting, H/W, etc.
Lia is a very caring and inspirational professor. She organizes field trips, shows French movies, and brings French snacks. She likes extra effort outside of class. The class involves reading a short book, French poems, songs and vocabulary. There are a few papers to write for the final, but not too difficult. Drawback - lecture feels long at times
The class was alright at best. She throws a lot of shade. She does want you to learn the language and complete all homework and projects in a timely manner. She will not hesitate to correct Mis-pronunciation and speaking in English instead of French. She does expect you to know a lot of the vocabulary by the next class. Take it for the easy A.
Prof. Raileanu is amazing. She truly cares about her students and wants them to learn the language. She emphasizes participation and attendance so if you plan on not going to class or not contributing, don't take this class. Her tests are relatively easy if you study and ask lots of questions. This is by far my favorite class last semester!
Not for lazy people. Keep phones away, prepare to behave and pay attention, you must participate then you get good grade. Lia is a great teacher that wants you to learn the language and culture. Serious class for serious students that are supposed to study and be ready to speak in class. She is tough but she is by far one of the best I ever had.
Lia is a great professor. Her class is mostly conversation activities, and it's an easy A if you show up. She doesn't have a break in her 2.5 hour class, and she can be a bit blunt about your accent or about her expectations for the course, but she is always available to help those who are putting in the effort. Would take again.
I absolutely love Lia! The lectures she gives are amazing and engaging. Also, she is a really passionate about the French language and will truly help you understand French. I took her for 3 semesters now and wish she could offer more. The world needs more Professors like her.
Her style is very helpful for those eager to speak the language. She focuses on training your ear and having you speak as much as possible, no translation. It can be hard especially if you've never had French before, but she is always willing to help those that put in the effort. Beware she can be judgemental and sassy, you cant be thin-skinned.
She is temperamental. Practice your eye contact, doing homework, participating, seating in the front, etc -- she grades on effort more than on knowledge!!! SO, as long as you come across as making an effort, she will grade you higher than someone who knows the language and has stopped trying!!!
Made classes fun and accessible. Highly recommended,
I loved her class! She is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. She really loves her job and always shows up with such a positive attitude everyday. Do not miss her class or you will fall behind. She never cancels/misses class. Homework is based out of the book, 2 assignments per day. 3 papers total. She wants everybody to succeed!
Such a sweet professor! She genuinely wants her students to learn the language & do well. Participation goes really far in her book so even if you're not 100% confident, try it anyways! She'll appreciate the effort - especially in an online forum. Show up to class on time & don't leave early without telling her! She'll call you out for it!
I really enjoyed her class, but I did have some prior experience with french. You need to keep your camera on in class. She is very temperamental so try to be agreeable. As long as you participate and show you are trying she will appreciate that. The book will be very useful, exams are spoken on zoom & written papers. You can't zone out.
I learned so much in this class coming from absolutely ZERO experience speaking French. I am also a very shy person but still got an A even though I prefer not to volunteer to speak. Granted I still spoke when called on and would turn red but meh not to shabs even when I made mistakes. She is funny and caring if you get to know her!
The professor is passionate about teaching not just the language but the French culture and even encouraged students do the month abroad in Paris! You need to show initiative and be attentive in class. She can tell if people are paying attention, who studies or not. Some students slacked and the ones who excelled are evidently passionate about it.
Conclusion: Serious teacher for serious students. I would def take the class again. 1. She is a serious teacher and prefers working with serious students. She wants to see effort and she is very strict. 2. She does pick on the stronger students often. She explained it in class: the stronger students leads the weaker students. And its true.
If you are passionate or are ready to fully learn a language, you HAVE to take this professor. She is incredibly caring, serious, and LOVES students who take initiative to learn and engage. Lectures are a MUST attend because you learn so much in them and you will speak a lot in this class. She will make the effort to help you learn. Ask questions!
Take the class if you genuinely are interested in french culture and language. It's easy to follow along as the homework is elementary level and the tests are all take-home/open book. The students who pull the "but I'm new :(" 9 weeks into the class are the only ones upset with madame's teaching methods. There are many opportunities to keep up.
All your grade comes from tests! You have to want to learn French and actually take the time to study outside of class. It's super easy to not want to do homework, skip class, or just simply not practice but as long as you find something to motivate you, the class is super SUPER easy.
Excellent class, I recommend it wholeheartedly. Professor Raileanu encourages students to be their best and achieve success. Oral exams are engaging and fun-- learning the language is done in a way that feels natural and relaxed. Learning a language takes dedication and focus and you will have all the tools you need to do so in this class.
If you want to learn French from this professor, which is the whole purpose of this class, be on time, don't miss classes, pay attention to everything she says, do your homework and study hard. If you don't, don't take the class.
One of my favorite professors I've had the pleasure of learning from. She won't let you get by half-hearted and knows if you didn't study. She is clear about what you need to learn before class and most of class is spent speaking so participation is necessary. It is a language class that requires effort but she is easy on grading if you try
The best part about her is her energy. She is not boring and doesn't just regurgitate material in a dry manner. She is good about making sure everyone participates so that everyone is engaged and learning, it's pretty hard not to learn from her unless you're trying not to. She gives the same class experience that you would get in France.
I don't know why she's tagged with tough grader and lots of homework. The amount of work she assigns is honestly much less then I'd expect from a 5 credit class and her grading is based mostly on effort. And she knows if you're not trying but really doesn't expect anything unrealistic. Remember, it's a high credit language class.
Professor Raileanu made sure to have every student participate to make the most out of forming connections in a different language. What I enjoyed most was that she has a strong emphasis on French history, ranging from famous artwork to historic figures, playing French songs, on top of teaching French grammar, that you won't gain anywhere else.
madame is the best professor you can have to learn french. she cares a lot about her students and their progress. she makes learning language a very natural process through oral practice, exams. work is minimal for a 5 unit class, esp honors, and grading is more based on effort. dont take this class if you want to get by without learning/studying
madame is the best professor you can have to learn french. she cares alot about her students and their progress. she makes learning language a very natural process through oral practice, exams. work is minimal for a 5 unit class, esp honors. and grading is based mainly on effort. dont take this class if you want to get by without studying/learning
Madame Raileanu truly cares about her students and retaining as much information of the French culture, history, and language as possible. Her passion is inspiring. She expects a lot from her students but it's because she sees their potential. Paris study abroad with her was a dream and it is what you make of the class. Put in the work = success.
Lia is a one of a kind professor. She cares about her students, I am so grateful that it was her who I had as a teacher. She grades each student on an individual basis based on their own personal progress with the language. She also has a lot of conversations, because what better way to have a language class than to really practice speaking it.
Excellent, passionate, dedicated teacher. If you really want to learn French, which is the whole purpose of signing up for a class/course like this, take this teacher class. Be always in class, listen, participate, ask questions, study, do your homework and you will reward yourself with a new language and a good grade.
She has been using for most of her long teaching career one of the most effective methods for acquiring a foreign language. If you really want/need to acquire the French, take her classes.
This professor knows how to keep a class engaged with her passion for the french language. I'm not a fan of going to class but she made me excited every time I walked through the door.
Most of her teaching is through lectures and LOTS of practice in class. She really wants to get everyone to speak French so expect to talk in class often! This class is definitely made for students who are really passionate about picking up a new language or want to learn more French, so don't take this class otherwise. I loved her interactions.
She's literally the best. My favorite professor at OCC. I highly recommend taking her classes. She's funny, caring, kind, generous, understanding, genuine. French is not easy to learn but I fell in love with it because of her. Last but not least, if you can afford, be with her for a month signing up for her SUMMER IN PARIS.
I've been taking french for five years and never improved but I took one year of french with this professor and improved a hundred fold!
You have to make sure to apply yourself in every class, but if you pay attention to her instructions she's the best teacher out there.
She is caring and understanding just like a terrific teacher should be. You can hear the passion flowing naturally as she teaches. You will acquire the French if you don't miss classes and participate during every class. Taking her summer class in Paris may change your life.
I took many French classes before in other schools and other professors but never learned any. After taking two of this professor classes and spending a month in her SUMMER IN PARIS program I became fluent.Great professor. Thank you!
Lia loves teaching French and the students that really want to learn French. If this is what you want to do take her class(es). You will not be disappointed. Also, if you know some French or not at all, sign up her for SUMMER IN PARIS 2023 program.
Love love love this professor. She will make you love French and all French things. So much and made incredible frendships in this class. Couldn't recommend her enough.
Lia knows how to get a class engaged with her spirit for the french language. I hope to join her this summer for the paris program.
You can tell she tries to make the class fair for everyone whether they have a lot of french experience or very little. I felt overwhelmed at the start of the semester but I was able to fit in by the end.
She expects students to attend every class, participate, try, do homework for their own benefit; she dips you into the French language and culture; encourages you to speak and to feel comfortable practicing even if your French isn't perfect. I highly recommend all her courses.
Great Professor. You have to go every single class if you want to really learn French. She is passionate about the new language and culture she is trying so hard to instill in all of us. She has a great personality.
Lia is a sweetheart! Just show up and be sure to participate. Tests are written and participation based and are not difficult if you do the work.
I enjoyed the lectures because she speaks french the entire time instead of switching to english which a lot of french professor do.
Prof Raileanu is an amazing French teacher. As someone who has a hard time concentrating and learning something as difficult as a new language I can confidently say I wouldn't have progressed as much as I have without her guidance. This was my fourth and final semester with her. She is clear about her methods and grading from day one and are simple
B4 Lia's 1st class I didn't know 1 word in French. My hopes 4 learning it were low, but with Lia passion 4 teaching, always smiling & charming, no matter how tired she was, how many were waiting at her office door after class 4 help, she made sure that no one walked out of her office unsatisfied. She changed my life: I am a French teacher now.
A super fun and effective corse and professor
An unsung hero is a person who inspired you in your life, yet you feel you have not given that person the recognition he/she deserves. After taking this professor classes I declare her my unsung hero. Thank you professor Raileanu!
I took all Lia's classes at OCC as well as many other French classes at other community colleges and UCI. She is the greatest of all.
Lia passion for teaching is overflowing. She uses her own version of TPR (Total Physical Response) and Natural Approach way to teach French. Don't miss classes, listen, respond, try hard, do your homework and you will acquire the French the way you acquired your 1st language during your earliest stage of your life. She will also grade you fairly.
Professor Raileanu is one of the most caring professors I've had. She makes participation fun and I looked forward to class every week. I went from knowing almost no French to being able to hold a conversation about most every day subjects. Definitely recommend this teacher if you are serious about learning French.
This is the best class if you never took any French class before.
Lia is a wonderful professor! I was only at OCC for a year only but she taught me more than I could ever learn in High School! She's one of the most passionate and caring professors, she'll do everything she can to help you learn French.
She is such a sweet lady! She is really passionate about her students success. Makes the lectures fun. I never felt such a connection in the classroom than I did in her class. Her method is very effective.
Awesome!
I found the course material lacking and the teacher distasteful. All of the negative reviews on this page have been removed by request of the teacher in question. At one point the negative reviews were equal to the positive ones. I will be re-posting this review any time it is removed. This page is not reflective of what was originally on here.
She expects you to attend all classes, listen, participate, do your HW. The method she uses is amazingly effective. She is awesome,
Great course material. Very considerate and patient. Inspirational Passionate
She is the best professor of my life. I am looking forward to her next semester French class.
I enjoyed tremendously her class. She is a wonderful professor. She was able to create for me a strong learning foundation for my goal which is to become fluent.
I cannot believe how much French I learned in one semester! This teacher is awesome. I cannot wait to take at least another semester with her.
Her passion for teaching in general and teaching French in particular is amazing. If you really want to acquire the French language take her classes. Be there at all times.
I just finished Lia's SUMMER IN PARIS program. It was the best month of my lifetime. I never imagined how much I can learn while having so much fan too. Thank you, Lia. You are amazing. I will sign up for your advanced French classes for two more semesters.
I've taken french before for several years but this is the first time I've learned so much in a french class. She is so caring and she will do her best for you to get the best grade possible, you just have to be willing to learn! She truly is an amazing professor and whoever gets to learn from her is very lucky!
Professor Raileanu encourages students to be their best and achieve success. Oral exams are engaging and fun; learning the language is done in a way that feels natural and relaxed. Learning a language takes dedication and focus and you will have all the tools you need to do so in this class. Excellent class, I recommend it wholeheartedly.
She is awesome!
Very caring and emphasizes participation in class, which will help develop your grammar and accent! HW is assigned but not graded. Tests are split into written and speaking parts, with the written part being turned in and graded while the speaking exam is a casual group exam. Honors will have to pick and present a topic from any module in class.
Very nice professor, super caring and helpful. French requires a lot of practice, and therefore a lot of homework. Very easy to get an A if you put in the effort.
After taking Lia French classes I became a trilingual. I am fluent in English, Spanish and now French. She is the best teacher I had starting with first grade. She is a fair grader. You can have same result if: - you never miss a class - you in the class listening, participating - do your HW - ask as many Qs as you have outside class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Incredibly nice and understanding. You have to work hard but if you put in the effort you'll do well. Do your HW. Show up to every class - your body and your mind - and you'll do fine! She is a fair grader.
I give Lia straight A's for: - passion - patience - compassion - fairness - engaging - communication - empathy
I am a partially hard of hearing student. When I presented my letter of accommodations to her. She said she needed to make the same accommodations to all the students. She paired me with the lowest speaking student, and she did not allow students to ask questions. She will reiterate for you to think in French which is not fair for an intro class
Very nice professor, super caring and helpful. French requires a lot of practice, and therefore a lot of homework. Easy to get an A if you put in the effort.
I started from zero. My hopes for learning French were low but with Lia passion for teaching, always smiling & charming, no matter how tired she was, how many were waiting at her office door after class for answering all our questions, she made sure that no one walked out of her office unsatisfied.
She uses her own version of TPR (Total Physical Response) and Natural Approach way to teach French. Don't miss classes, listen, respond, try hard, do your homework and you will acquire the French the way you acquired your 1st language during your earliest stage of your life. She will also grade you fairly. Lia passion for teaching is overflowing.
Professor Raileanu is one of the most caring professors I've had. She makes participation fun. I looked forward to her class every week. I went from knowing almost no French to being able to hold a conversation about most everyday subjects. Definitely recommend this teacher if you are serious about learning French.
I've taken French before for several years and wasted my time. This is the first time I've learned a lot in Lia's French class. She is so caring and she will do her best for you to get the best grade possible, you just have to be willing to learn! She truly is an amazing professor and whoever gets in her class is very lucky.
Professor Raileanu encourages students to be their best and achieve success. Oral exams are engaging and fun; learning the language is done in a way that feels natural and relaxed. Learning a language takes dedication and focus and you will have all the tools you need to do so in this class. Excellent class, I recommend it wholeheartedly
This teacher is awesome. I cannot wait I cannot believe how much French I learned in one semester! I cannot wait to take at least another semester with her.
Probably the most effective French teacher in Orange County in the last 30 years.
Passionate, dedicated, she loves to teach and loves her students.
This is the best class if you never took any French class before. At the end of her class, you will probably be speaking better than students that were exposed to French in the wrong way. Her own method is the best. Don't miss a class. When you are in class have your mind in there too. You will want to take her class over and over and...
She is a great professor in general and French professor in particular. I consider myself very lucky for having taken all her classes that I was allowed to.
She is 50% of achieving your goal. You are the other 50%. Do your part and you get a French bull's eye.
Lia R. makes participation fun. I went from knowing almost no French to being able to hold a conversation about most every day subjects. She is one of the most caring professors I've had. If you are serious about learning French, take her class.
Professor Raileanu's FRE180 class is a great way to learn French. The lectures are engaging, and the oral exams make the learning process feel natural. Unstuckstudy and the course textbook are helpful study tools that complement the class well.
