Really interesting class! The professor points out lots of everyday things in our culture and others that you don't even think about. There is some reading for the class and the tests are a little tricky with words but all in all a good class.

He's a really nice guy and the lecture is easy to understand. But the tests are hard, you a million choices and combinations for answers, if I had known his tests were like that I wouldn't have taken him. There aren't many grades in the class.

He is a great profesor. Although his tests can be challenging if you understand the concepts he talks about in class you will do well. This is the best class I have taken so far, and I think he made it that way.

I really enjoyed his class at the beginnign of the year, but the further we got into the year, the more difficult i found it to concetrate in class. Tests are EXACTLY from his lectures in class, so take good notes.You don't necessarily have to read.

Liam is amazing! He'll teach you so much and get you out of being ethnocentric. Definitely take him. This is the best gen-ed I've taken. Go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine. Most of the readings are interesting, at least skim them. Awesome professor!

this class was very interesting. sometimes hard to stay awake but buckley is very intellectual. he will get you to think about why you do things and why the american culture is the way it is. i highly reccomend this class.

Best 8am I've had yet. He's a swell guy who wants to help his students. The books were fun to read and are essential for tests. Attendance is not required, and since most of his lectures are reiterations of the readings, I felt free to skip a great deal. Tests are a puzzle, as it's difficult to discern what to study.

Nothing bad to say. A GREAT lecturer, makes all the material interesting, the readings are interesting too. No attendance policy. The tests are challenging, but not necessarily difficult. He's got a british accent! what is not to love.

He is one of my favorite professors here at JMU. Lectures are intresting, test come right from the lectures. The readings are interesting for the most part. Only 3 tests including the final and one paper. Take him if you can!

Adorbable accent. Tests are easy. Class is interesting although I must admit I skip alot but still have an A! Take him if you can you wont regret it!

Makes class interesting with an odd take on the way we live. Readings aren't really necessary but taking notes would be a good idea since it makes up the majority of the tests. Most of the stuff is pretty simple and straight forward. Not a hard course load either. Not very hard to pull off being what he calls a "demi god".

Amazing professor. Had in spring 2007. Tips for success: Attend ALL lectures, write as much as you can on lectures, read the assigned text (not much at all b/c he specifies portions from each text). He is always in during office hours and is always open to conversation. Very chill. Also, he is very good in responding to questions via e-mail.

Great teacher, attendance isn't mandatory but there's no textbook so if you want to do well, just go listen to the lectures and take notes. Always willing to clarify things. Tests aren't that bad if you study for them with your notes; I never did the extra readings and I got an A. Great guy, great class. Take him :D

Great teacher. I admit I had a lil crush on him. Great accent and funny so he's great to listen to. He doesn't bore you. Lectures are good, short slides with video clips. You can get by without reading half of the book because he explains everything in class but I recommend you buy it just in case you don't do too well at first. He's really easy.

So helpful, didnt do too well on my first exam so went and reviewed before the other ones in office hours with him. Very knowledgeable! Ended up with a B as my final grade, but could've done better if I didnt get a C on the first exam. Considering an Anthro minor because of this class! Take him for GANTH195!

Liam Buckley is the best anthropology professor I have had thus far. The class is interesting and fun and he has a great personality. He also has a great linen suit he likes to wear :)

Liam is a great professor. He loves the subject matter, and you can tell he loves teaching and has a sense of humor! This class was fairly easy. I studied my notes the night before all the exams and got a B+. I never even cracked open the books he assigned because he explained the material so well. Take him if you can!

He is extremely knowledgeable and funny. It's not extremely hard, but the reading notes can be a pain in the butt when you have other papers and tests due on the same day. other than that, he is an amazing teacher and I suggest everyone take him.

He is a great professor and I would definitely recommend taking him. He is so funny in class and he makes the subject interesting. He does make you do reading notes once a week on one of the two reading assignments and that can be kind of annoying, but not too hard.

Dr. Buckley is pound for pound one of the top professors I've ever taken. He is incredibly intelligent and does a great job sharing his love for anthropology. His class was the perfect blend of challenge and reward for a GENED class. I wish I could now pursue anthropology as a major. Would recommend to anybody.

Favorite class by far. He's funny, passionate, clear, sexy, and British. Take this class no matter what, you will not regret it. Take notes off lecture, discussion in class, read an article for each class. Not much work at all, and the exams aren't bad either. No attendance policy, but you'll WANT to go every time because he's awesome.

As a freshman, I can honestly say he has made my first semester worthwhile. he is sooo amazing and i look forward to his class every tuesday and thursday. taking this class should be a no brainer, i recommend it without a doubt!!!! you will love it, mark my words. easy tests just study.

TAKE THIS CLASS! This class is early but trust me he will wake you up. If you go to class and take notes you will do great on the exams. In my class someone always organized a study guide which was really helpful. This teacher is helpful and funny. He is one of my favorite professors here

Dr. Buckley genuinely cares for his students. He's hilarious and makes class really interesting. I was not at all interested in this class when I signed up, but it became one of my favorites. There is a lot of difficult reading to keep up with but he never left our class in the dark with any test information. Take him!!

This class was too easy, pretty much a joke. His exams are all essay and he is very relaxed about everything. He is an awesome guy and its great to listen to him talk. He is NOT hott though. I was definitely not expecting what I got that first day of school. I don't know who voted him hott. Definitely take him and enjoy the easy A.

I absolutely love Dr. Buckley. He is the reason that I am a cultural anthropology major. He makes his lectures interesting and relates everything together. There is a lot of readying but I liked most of them. Tests were tough, not quiet clear on what exactly to study, but when you learn the format next two will be easier.

He is such a great professor! Honestly I didn't even know what anthropology was before I took this class but came to love it. There's a lot of reading but you honestly don't have to read it. The first test is a little hard (but I'm a freshman and was used to high school tests)so they get easier. Grade is made up of 3 tests. Definitely take him!

This was by far my favorite class this semester. The atmosphere of the class is very laid back, and Professor Buckley uses a lot of his own experiences as examples for the material. There were only two tests (short answer) and a final paper for the year, all of which were graded fairly and generously. I always looked forward to going to class!

Professor Buckley is a great guy and really cares about his students, however the class is not one I would take again willingly. I felt like this class was a complete waste of my time. Tests are based off of lectures so if you don't go to class it's going to be very tough.

So his class was definitely fun to go to, and he made me very interested in the subject through his sarcastic humor. That being said, his tests were very weird and honestly studying a lot for them didn't really help because of the way he words his questions; and those 4 tests were the only 4 grades for the semester. Easy B, very Hard A though.

Dr. Buckley knows a lot about the subject matter and presents it in a way that makes it easy to grasp. I took this class for a gen ed and it was super easy. Just do all the readings and come to all the lectures and you will be golden for the exams. He give only 4 exams, the final is a regular exam. I would highly recommend taking this class.

TAKE BUCKLEY FOR ANTH195! He's a super cool, funny, British dude and the stuff you learn about in class is surprisingly interesting. I LOVE DR. BUCKLEY!!! He is a great guy and gives really great lectures. The class I am taking is very abstract so some concepts are hard to grasp but it is still really interesting. I keep on taking his classes because I love him so much. Take him if you can!

Dr. Buckley is a very personable professor, he's easy to approach if you need help. His ANTH195 class is extremely interesting, but abstract so do not take it if you prefer classes with concrete material. He's always quick to make jokes, and he usually ends class about 5 minutes early. There is a lot of reading but all of it is interesting.

I absolutely adore Dr. Buckley. His lectures are interesting and he always kept me engaged. He has interesting stories from the work he has done as an anthropologist and makes you think deeply throughout the course. Honestly, you don't have to really read other than for the online quizzes. Everything on the tests is covered in lecture.

Buckley is sincerely, in my opinion, the best professor I've had at JMU, next to Matt Ezzell. His quirky humor, accessibility outside of class, and interesting and inspiring lectures are just some of the reasons ANYONE, ANY major should take him. As a senior, I will truly miss him. True representation of JMU and JMU's academics!

definitely recommend taking notes on your laptop because he talks the whole class and you basically need to write down most of what he says. quizzes arent timed on canvas. 4 exams which can be hard because of the few questions but if you take notes AND share notes with others, you should do good on them! only downside is a 94 is an A

Very informative lectures while still remaining engaging and understandable. He's a sweet guy with a sense of humor and a good perspective on everything, and he goes over the weekly quizzes (easy A's if you do the readings) in class so you can understand the material. Would definitely recommend!

Must go to class to get notes because his tests are on what you talk about in class. The only complain I have about him is that his tests were worded weirdly which made them harder than they need to be. Overall easy class. Only graded by tests and weekly online reading quizzes, and he drops the three lowest one.

This was my first class with Buckley - Anth & Photography. This is his field and his passion translates into every lecture, I loved going to class! Super chill and conversational, tests are essay or short-answer, final was a short paper. I loved learning about this topic and would def recommend it for media/history interests!

Liam Buckley is AMAZING. The class is super interesting and very low-stress. He gives great lectures and often lets you out a little bit early. The only grades are the online reading quizzes which you have before each class and then 4 tests, but its doable. He goes over everything you need to know for the test in detail during class. This is the third review I'm leaving for Buckley. This man is hands down the best professor at JMU. Any blind person can see that. Very understanding, HILARIOUS, smart, experienced, the whole nine yards. This man is what you call a caring professor. Such a good person, and now that I'm graduated, an even better friend. There are four tests, all about 20 questions, and they're all pretty straightforward and simple. There's a fair amount of reading, but they aren't tedious and aren't just busy work. He was a solid choice. There was no textbook, just texts online and an autobiography of NISA book, which can be bought online for cheap. Attendance is not mandatory, but necessary, bc everything he says in class is in the exam. No cumulative final. Weekly quizzes straight forward from texts. Would def take him again, 100%.

Love Dr Buckley. 4 (easy) exams, one of which was a take-home essay. Reading quizzes every week, but they are super easy if you just skim the text. Very clear about what will be tested on exams, but you MUST go to class- almost nothing is posted online. However, if you do listen in class, all the concepts are clearly explained and easy to remember.

He doesn't try to trick you with test questions and none of his exams are cumulative. He is the reason I switched my major to anthro, and it's the best decision I've ever made. he has a 100% so I feel like I dont even need to leave a comment, but I loved him so much I want to do it anyway!!! TAKE HIM! theres 4 tests and thats it, so lectures matter and write down everything he says. The tests are 25 Qs and he makes the answers all sound the same on purpose to see who really pays attention in class. Easy online quizzes too

My favorite professor here at JMU! Always keeps his lectures interesting and likes having in-class discussions with the students about the material. Theres a decent amount of readings for his class, and quizzes are online and are typically not more than 4-5 questions. Doesnt curve or give extra credit, but you dont really need it for his class.

By far my favorite professor!! He keeps you engaged during his lectures with stories and is a super funny guy. The online quizzes are short and the tests are pretty straight forward if you show up to class. He wants all of his students to succeed, and it shows in the way he talks to you before and during class.

Love Dr. Buckley, class can be challenging at some times and he challenges you to really get the right answers and to think the way he wants you to think. Go to him for office hours and make a study guide and he will review it with you! Also you can email him questions for exams and he'll answer you. Reading quizzes very easy hardly any homework.

Dr Buckley's class is enriching, but low maintenance. It's very easy to get an A if you just show up and listen to the discussions. I learned so much from this class and highly recommend it for an interesting and easy gen ed

Professor Buckley is easily the purest human being I have ever met. I took ANTH 195 and I am so glad I did. The class was so interesting and he kept everyone engaged with his humor and stories. He doesn't check attendance but his exams are all based on lectures. Studying hard for exams and going to class are essential to a good grade.

The class is asynchronous online and it's pretty easy. There are a ton of mini quizzes (2-4 questions) but they're open reading and if you don't get them all right he doesn't count it against you. The material is super interesting and I definitely learned a lot. Exams are open note but make sure you know the material because of the time constraint.

Simply the best man I've ever met. Super sad I had to have him during Covid. Asynchronous but still super easy to keep up with the material. Always available for office hours and super helpful with questions before exam days. If there's a take-home assignment, the grading is super clear so you know what to expect. Wish I could take the class again.

Such a genuine guy and makes it known from the first days of classes hell do anything he can to help you pass. Lots of reading but most of it is pretty enjoyable :)

Super nice guy who makes lectures relatable and easy to understand. He encourages the class to participate and he never shuns anyone for saying the wrong answer. Class is pretty easy if you take good notes.

Such a cool guy he really likes the subject he is teaching and tries to make this class as engaging and fun as possible. The only thing is that tests are heavily based on lecture notes so make sure you go to class so you can pass the three exams he gives.

Honestly not a bad class. The lectures can feel a little long but the content is interesting and he tries to make it engaging. The weekly homework quizzes weren't bad. You definitely need to buy the books that aren't published though.

Great professor. Interesting lectures. Not an easy A, due to the fact that there are not many assignments to base your grade off of. But, Buckley wants you to succeed and assigns assignments and readings that really make you think.

Dr. Buckley is a fantastic professor who truly wants his students to do well in class. If you do the readings and join in the class discussion with him you'll be having the time of your life. This film class is one of the best classes I've ever taken and Dr. Buckley challenged me academically. I'd definitely recommend taking him!

I had him my first-semester junior year, and I can easily say that he is my favorite professor I have ever had in college. He is engaging and truly cares about the opinions of his students. His test papers aren't bad, as long as you pay attention to the class which in my opinion is pretty easy you will do fine with those.
