Very difficult class, but he does grades on a curve. You should try to attend every lecture and do the reading.
his lab class is pretty hard... i didnt have him for my lecture class, so sometimes, things he talked about in the lab were not even covered in my lecture class yet.
I thought he was a great teacher. Very note heavy class, so be prepared to show up every day even though he does not take attendance. Drops lowest exam score! He's actually kinda funny too if you listen close enough to what he's saying.

McDaid was an all right professor. In orfer to pass his class you should go everyday for the notes. He letsyou give a cheat sheet on tests its pretty useful.
I didn't like this guy at all. I thought he was too smug and constantly rambles about things he's done and people he knows. The labs were poorly explained and hardly ever came out like they should. Then when grades he takes a bunch of points off for trivial observations that you missed.
McDaid has a tough facade, and tells tall tales, but once you get over this his class is pretty easy and he is really a cool guy. He is bright, funny, and a good instructor. Take notes. Use a printer to print your notecard. Color code it. You can't go wrong.
informative class with 4 test + extra credit, knowledgeable & funny teach if you can listen fast enough and endure all his BS =D
this instructor is too picky and judgemental, he doesn't care about anyone but himself. Basically he is selfish as well as heartless. Also he is very difficult and uncomprimising not to mention rude, especially when youtry to talk to him. He has a dry sense of humor. This instructor thinks that Astr
Liam rocks! He is a no nonsense professor and is merciless as far as sob stories are concerned. If you can't show up to the lectures, then don't take his class. Sometimes astronomy can be a bit dry so he mixes in some outrageous stories to keep things interesting. Fall asleep in class and find out!
Perhaps the most unguardedly **** professor I have ever had!
we love you Mr. McDaid!!!
Very funny, yet moderately intemidating. It might take you a minute to warm up to him.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WILL REGRET IT.....
This teacher is far beyond very rude.I don't know what people on here are talking about!! But the Mcdaid i had was a complete a$$****!!!! WARNING don't take his class and if you don't believe me take his class than and see for yourself and get ready to listen to his corny jokes and life stories.
McDaid is a excellent professor, despite his arrogant attitude. He tells tall tales, laughs at his own jokes, but he manages keep the class interesting. Don’t take his class if you can’t make all the lecturesm, take excellent notes, or expect to skate by with minimal effort. I definitely would take this class again; highly recommended.
Cool guy, very knowledgeable. Only whinners don't like him.
......... BAD TEACHER .........
McDaid is witty, charming and master of a "saucy" science. I only earned a C in his class, but not for want of mooning over him!
Very intertaining well-rounded astronomy experience.

very cool!
Anyone can stand in front of a class and blah blah blah... McDaid is able to grab your attention, keep your interest, and make you laugh along the way. :o)
Mc.Daid is one of the smartest men i have ever met... people who are lazy and dumb will not like this class because he is extremely intelligent and you must have a good head on your shoulders to accomplish his tasks... overall he has a weird sence of humor and he is a mathematic genious... if you don't like math, don't take the class.
He is the best Professor that I have had up to date. He grabs your attention from the first five minuets of the first class and does not let you go. I have not had a class with him for a year and a half now, that is how good he is. He is not the bad looking either.
bad bad bad!
His lab course is very difficult, he has an exacting attention to detail - but that is not a bad thing. His lectures are EXTREMELY good, He teaches on a lot of different levels and using a lot of different methods - he uses every good teaching method in the book. He has souped up my interest in astronomy. Be prepared to study.
He seems to enjoy it when hardly anyone does well on his exams. Overall I think he may be a decent guy despite the impression that he is an egomaniac. On the other hand his wit is disarming and his overwhelming love for himself amusing. He will blab about all his girlfriends like anyone cares though. Whatever!
This guy is good. He will teach you all you need to know about Astronomy. I learned a lot from him. However, if you are more interested in getting a passing grade, DO NOT take him. Everyone's average grade in the class was a D. His Study guides give half of the test, and the rest BS. I enjoyed learning, but hated his tests. You will not pass
Dis is one man who can talk for an entire hour w/o breathing. he's voice is monotonous and can put u to sleep once in a while. his tests are GOD-DAMN-TOUGH!!he's an egotistic self-absorbed guy who thinks everyone knows astronomy like he does. im not denying that he's a smart guy, but he has to know not everyone has a broad astro knowledge like him!

He is arrogant and condescending but his lectures are clear and concise. He is a good teacher who laces his lectures with humor (not good humor though) that can distract from the monotony that is a lecture. his tests are hard but doable. in the end though who cares what kind of a person he is, as long as he teaches well, which he does.
go everyday and do all the notes and u cant fail!just sit down, shut up and write what he says, type it down on a 3x5 card and ull get an A, this guy is easy, if u dont get at least a B ur euther lazy stupid or both. TAKE THIS TEACHER IF U GO EVERYDAY U WILL PASS!
Boring. Mean. Nerd. Couldn't stand his voice and stupid jokes.
Prepare to listen to a lecture drawn from a projector and interspersed with stupid jokes. If you try to copy down everything on the screen, your hand will be on fire by the end of class. Yet, he doesn't use the book for anything. Thus if you miss anything in his turbo projector show, you're out of luck.

Hes very coo and mellow, throws some jokes at yu kinda witty. Take him hes lite wieght.. Bascall y all yu gotta do is show up to class take all the notes and put them on the 3x5 notecard that he lets yu use on the test!
I like him. He's smart and clear. Do what's expected of you and it's an easy A.
took the lab class, and thought it was going to no fun. He made it fun, cracks jokes which are funny, he is a good and fun teacher. Just go to the class and you will pass the class.. He makes it fun
Constant notetaking, no class interaction or discussion. Class average for all tests given is failing. Mean and difficult to talk to

knows a lot about subject but gets off topic and tells inappropriate personal stories, tests are mostly on his lectures
his dry humor and dirty dolphin jokes make some groan. i think he is funny. his MS Word lectures bore some but i am a visual learner and it worked for me. he expects students to think critically about material not just spit back facts which i like. don't take him for an easy A because he will fail your ass.
Arrogent. Pompus. Mean. Ego. This guy has personal problems. Includes pictures of his imaginary girlfriend in projector lecture. Material is fun and interesting but he finds a way to make it irritating. Take this class if you enjoy offensive jokes and preaching. Dont question him or he will insult you. Dont take anything seriously or personally.
McDaid is a jerk. 20/27 others though so too because they all dropped! I was one of 3 people to get higher than a C in his class. His tests are impossible. He phrases them so you have to be him to answer corectly. He will admit this to you! Dont take this class from him! dont even go near him! he will insult you and your family and friends!
Makes you work for your grade; but also makes the class very interesting! Worth your time and effort.
I'm only filling this out to annoy him because I know how much he loathes this website. His class is hard, but he gives you the tools to do well. Must be determined and have the ability to think critically about the subject matter in order to succeed.
His lab is not easy. He gives you little hints and you have to figure out the rest. At first I thought he was being a jerk, but thats not the case. He wants you to learn, and in order to do that you have to think for yourself. His class was not easy, but I learned a lot about astronomy. I found him very funny as well.
He is the worst teacher I have ever taken at City! He is unclear in his assignments and even more unclear in his grading! He's rude and thinks he's funny but really really not. This is my last semester, this is one of the last classes I need to transfer, but I had to drop and find something else because I could NOT do a whole semester with him!
This guy gives precise lectures which he follows to a tee on tests, but does not create an amtmosphere for discussion, if you ask questions he will probably make you feel stupid. If you take notes and never miss a class you're golden. His labs are boring and more difficult than they should be. He's pretty funny but not as much as he thinks he is.
Taking his astrobiology class. He is a jerk and his tests are waay harder than they need to be simply because the questions he chooses to be on them are fairly arbitrary. On the bright side, the reading is pretty much what he says in the class so there really is no homework and not much use to purchase textbook either.
He is very smart, witty and with one of the greatest sense of humor! Tests are super hard, lots of note taking, no homeworks. I wasn't interested at all in astronomy but I had to take the class for the units and he, somehow, made it interesting for me, and again, really really fun. He's a cool Irishman.
Great prof.
He was the worst, rudest, most annoying teacher I've ever had! His lectures are just long ridiculous and unclear. I just took pages of notes and never missed a lecture but I had no idea what the "important" parts were. Not to mention, he keeps the mich really close to his throat on an ITV class and you hear him gulp constantly..gross. I had to drop
Uses profanity, rude, arrogant, NOT helpful. Read that sentence again, it really sums him up. Unprofessional sexual and other comments, degrades students. "Correct" lab answers are ambiguous/arbitrary/irrelevant/impossible to infer. Likes to hear himself talk about his wacko political/other personal theories not even related to class.
Stick to his notes, pay attention and you will be fine. Take advantage of the use of the 3by5 card he lets you use on the tests because the questions are obscure. His jokes are childish at best and mildly offensive at worst; mostly they are eye-rolling groaners which he spits out constantly. I found him to be an obnoxious flaming egotist.
Liam is an awesome professor!! All you have to do is show up, take the notes, and use your notecard that he allows on tests. His jokes are usually hilarious, though he is extremely opinionated. He's a cool guy that knows a lot and you can learn a lot from him if you keep an open mind. I would definitely take another class taught by him.
I really enjoyed this class however I can see how his teaching style is not for everyone. It is mostly just a sit and listen kind of class then you take a every so often. The tests are the only things he grades so be sure to prepare well for them. Not the easiest A to obtain but in my opinion well worth the struggle.
DROP THIS CLASS. Or see how you like him. But don't say you weren't warned.
He doesn't use study guides and test are based ONLY on the lectures. All his test are 25 mult. choice and open questions. He really makes you think. If u pay attention in class and are good at open questions it's a good class but i would not take the prof again.
Liam is a great professor. He is very clear and concise in his lecture, even on t.v. He doesn't use the book much but it doesn't hurt to have it. If you take good notes and study well for his tests you should be fine. He is not an easy A, but he gives you everything you need to get one. Plus if you pay attention you might actually learn something.
HAHA the last line of the below post is something HE would say. Profs DO sometimes get on here deceptively. He says he hates RMP.com... look at his rating, I wonder why. HAHA
Prof. McDaid is an awesome teacher. he really gets you captivated and makes you really want to learn more about this subject. No he is not an easy A but, he will tell you the facts and how things are straight up and honestly. "No Sugar Coating" His class is not for the weak. He expects a lot out of people in the end you go to him not him to you..
Hes funny, hott, looks and sounds like eric from that 70s show. shes hellllla funny, easy a if you just show up from what ive hard. he makes everything fun. i LOVE him.
He has such high egos and thinks hes funny, hes really not. Hes such a bad teacher thats why his class is not even filled up. Most students drop out due to his rudeness or just due to his stupid jokes. Tells stupid stories and try to make it funny. HES A NO NO. i know he comes on here sometimes and read it.
McDaid's class really isn't as hard as everyone is making it out to be. If you show up to class and take down what he says in the lectures you'll be fine. However, if you are the type that cannot learn without asking questions, this class isn't for your. He can come off as sort of pretentious, but I think he just intends to be funny.
such an awesome class i had with mcdaid! his lectures aren't boring, his class is my favorite class because he makes the material relate-able, and there is never homework. he lets you use a cheat card on the exams too. and he's hilarious, which always makes for good class time. I love this instructor, take his class!
McDaid is an amazing professor if you are the kind of person who can think or is actually willing to do the work. I've learned so much from taking 3 classes with him and he has definately inspired me to learn more. His classes are simply laid out and so long as you show up for class you're good for tests. Plus he's super hot if you're a nerd lover.
This is one of the few classes I look forward going to.McDaid is a great speaker, not to mention funny at times.Your grade is based purely off of 4 exams although he drops the lowest one.No homework and the tests aren't as difficult as people make it out to be.Take good notes and attend every session.Oh and don't buy the book,it won't help you.
He never takes roll, but you'd be a fool to miss a day of his lectures, as they're both highly entertaining and essential to passing the class. Tests are not really as hard as he makes them out to be, but you will have to study.
Horrible teacher. Its an interesting class but all he does is lecture. His notes seem to be his own commentary with little facts. He doesn't assign homework so its up to you to read the pages that he has picked out which are all over the place. The test are actually quite tough even when you do study.Wouldn't recommend him.
If you've seen House, he is hands down a clone of Dr. House and his pompous character. He has favorites for sure. Information is vague. Other than that he is a good teacher as long as your on his good side. Not sure if he grades fairly at all. No homework at all.
McDaid is awesome. He's a wealth of knowledge with a great sense of humor. His tests are hard, but if you study, it's not hard to get an A because of how much extra credit he hides within his tests. All lecture, no homework, 4 tests (with the lowest one dropped), and an interesting topic. he's a real astronomer, and a great teacher.
Professor McDaid is awesome! His tests are pretty hard but if you go to class and pay attention (that is key) you will pass. Plus he is ridiculously funny so that certainly helps staying awake since the class is entirely lecture. Keep in mind if you dont want to have to study very hard his class is not for you.
There are 4 test, 120 points possible on each one but only graded out of 100. He drops your lowest score so your grade is average of your 3 highest scores. No HW! No Book! Roll never taken. Class is very interesting but pretty tough. Professor Mcdaid is a nice guy, just don't talk while he is lecturing and don't have an attitude. Take good notes!
Professor McDaid is easily one of the best professors I've ever had! Yes, his tests can be difficult if you don't study or know the material BUT you will retain so much more w/his test style. He is also HILARIOUS and he makes being in class fun and interesting. Will take more classes w/him for sure.
McDaid has taken on a very interesting and thought provoking topic. You must go to class and have a book to pass his class is only tests but the extra effort and attention you pay to the class will most defiantly pay off. If you're a slacker by heart take another class.
His approach on teaching is understandable but in the end not very effective in actually teaching you information in a way you can retain it easily. Be prepared to read your book a lot since he makes no effort to make sure people understand the material. He does more talking than actual teaching. If you stick it out and study its possible to pass
One of the best teachers I've ever had! He teaches based on projected notes that he elaborates upon throughout the class. He occasionally goes on tangents, but he makes them relevant and they often end up on the tests. If you get an A on the first three tests you don't have to take the final, which opens up studying for other classes.
One of the best professors I've had at SCC. Very dense lectures with lots of information though; try not to miss one. Grades entirely on tests, so your grade is your responsibility. Won't coddle you, but will help clarify if you ask. The guy's definitely a genius, you just have to keep up. Bonus: wicked funny.
Reading all these reviews are hilarious. Yes, McDaid is a bit self involved and crude, but so?! Besides, that isn't important. He is a genius that knows his stuff. The only bad thing I would say is that I think sometimes he forgets we aren't as smart as he is. Personally, I think he is hilarious and easy to understand. Just go to class and study.
Astro lab class with no textbook required. No final, no midterm,no quizzes,no exams, no projects & no homework. Grade is based on in class labs only. i was never stressed(at home on weekends) with this class because it was in class materials only. After the last day, it was the only class i was 100% confident that i passed with a B or above.take it
cool teacher but wasnt easy. he expects you to do alot of reading and reviewing for tests. and grades are depended on test only. free response questions are hard to get fully correct. always want more or exact specific.
Wow where do I begin? He's definitely not easy for the average student, but he provides many resources for you to do well in not only his class but the science field and life. He is keen on teaching you how to think, instead of cramming your head with facts, so his tests can be more than worthwhile by evaluating how you reason. I miss it already.
Professor McDaid really wants you to critically think and reason your way through the work he assigns. For astronomy lab be prepared to make friends with the "smart kids" quick, because McDaid offers little to no assistance while completing the lab, but he usually will give you enough info in the beginning of class if you pay attention.
Class based on ONLY TESTS. No homework, quizzes, etc. There's 4 tests in the semester, all essay questions. No multiple choice. Class average was always a D(~65%). Will drop you out of class if you fail first two tests. It's your choice if you want to take this class. You're risking your GPA if you do not study well.
Reading all the review makes me laugh. Yes this teacher is not the easiest, so don't take him if you're not into reading everyday. Your grade is based on 4 exams! He'll drop the lowest exams and average the other 3. I took his class and walked out with a C. You must read everyday to walkout with a pass grade!
He literally lectures the whole time, every class, all semester, unless hes giving you a test. Your grade is only made up of 4 tests. Theres no homework, quizes, or attendence points. oh and ALL his tests are purely 10 essay questions. He dosent give partical points when grading your essay questions either, he likes to write big 0's if your wrong.
Poor teacher. 400 can be taken simultaneously with 310 or 320 but those classes may not be synched with the lab. Liam presumes the student has 310 or 320 experience and refuses to explain concepts and terms.Puzzling teacher; I sense he enjoys astronomy and teaching. He is very opinionated on every conceivable subject, and quite full of himself.
No, he is not easy. Yeah, you have to read. But guess what, THATS HOW IT IS AT UCs and CSUS. I loved the class! McDaid is VERY interesting and excellent at engaging his students (the ones that are paying attention at least). Highly recommend this class to the serious, curious, and looking-to-pursue-a-higher-education students of SCC
I'm normally an A/B+ student, but I failed his class. His class is very interesting. I felt like I understood what he lectured about, but he grades extremely hard on tests. Your grade is solely based on test scores and nothing else. I studied for hours, and I tried to elaborate on my test questions, but they were never good enough. Beware of McDaid
His gangly legs saunter eloquently in to the room. With luscious curls and ivory skin, he resembles a shimmering nordic alien. His wisdom penetrates every individual in the room. He is two words. Hecka genteel. A true gallant knight soaring through the galaxy of knowledge. (ps the tests r straightforward and from the notes) :^D 3
Tests are 100% of the grade, and passing them isn't an easy feat. Class averages were as low as 40. You really need to come to class to catch his lectures, as well as READ THE LINKS FROM THE ONLINE TEXT if you want any chance at passing. Tough but fair grader. Very blunt and opinionated. Loves ranting. You might get called 'stupid' a few times.
One of the two best lectures I've ever attended. Don't disrupt class and you won't get put on blast. Has no problem kicking you out if you're disruptive. Guy is smart with a capital S and you'll learn a ton IF you pay attention. Tests are purely essay based and difficult but not impossible. An A is impressive, a B is realistic with hard work.
Absolutely loved the class & instructor! Opinionated, yes, but he prefers to examine things and come to his own conclusions, instead of letting others dictate his beliefs. Challenges students to think for themselves and demonstrate understanding of the material through writing. Helpful, but doesn't spoonfeed. Sharp mind, hilarious dry humor.
awful teacher. very hard to pass. don't take.
A lot of people say that this professor grades tough (and maybe they're right,) but an easy-grading professor won't do you any justice; if you get graded harder, then at least you'll learn to put your best effort into your work. Don't skip class, and study. Go to the offered tutoring sessions as well. Do that, and you'll survive.
If you don't skip class, study the textbook, and participate in tutoring sessions, then you'll be fine. Your grade is based on only four exams, and the questions are all short-essays, but they'll be cake if you do your part. Don't take this class if you want an A with very little work. Take this class because you want to LEARN.
Liam McDaid is a very tough grader. He's also possibly the best prof. at SCC, simply because he's the only one that makes you think about and really use the tools of logic. He changed everything about my thinking and my approach to problem solving. If you're lazy and don't like a challenge, find a different prof or -better yet- drop out entirely.
Horrible teacher. Lets his personal agenda affect students learning paths. Intolerable. Over-reaching. Overdemanding. Avoid at all possible costs.
Lectures over a power point. I find with all the information that we are learning in this class it would be really helpful if he were to give access to the power point so we could actually listen to everything he has to say instead of trying to write down everything from the powerpoint. Grade is based on daily quizzes and Final.
This guy is unreal. He brags about how amazing he is all lecture and grades his quizzes super arbitrarily. It's like if he doesn't like you don't expect to get a good grade. Don't bother studying either because his quizzes aren't based on the lectures at all it's only based on whatever random thing he wants to trick you on. This class will ruin you
Former student of his that transferred to UC Davis. If you want to know what a university type class is like, take him. The course structure is very similar to upper division classes at Davis, without a term paper. His exams are pretty tough. The only C I've ever gotten was in his class. Overall he's a great lecturer.
He used to be a comedian, no homework, quizzes every class, follows the curriculum in the Astronomy class links in the syllabus. I can't stress enough how important those links are. It's a science class, expect it to be labor intensive. He talks really fast. Very important to use his office hours, he maybe a little intimidating. Don't be scared.
One of the best professors I have taken b/c he really respects his field and job. Lectures don't feel like a chore, they feel like you're lounging while learning. Only "down side" is how he wants his daily quizzes done. It is very specific with a critical thinking element always. It sounds simple but it isn't. I went to a tutor everyday for 2 hours
Alot of it is lecture orientated. Jotting down notes help but beware of falling asleep in class I'm guilty cause it's what he says that you really need to pay attention to. The quizzes are critical thinking with extra research to support your thoughts. I recommend voice recording his lectures to glean every last bit of information you can.
Don't come here expecting an easy A. He makes you think outside the box. No textbook, just links to study. Quizzes almost every day, and those make up most of your grade. He's pretty funny too. Try to record lectures and take notes so you get everything. You get final questions a month in advance, can use notes/links.
Liam is a no nonsense professor who gives out a lot of information in his class. He's very knowledgeable and will take time to explain things and answer questions. However, his classes are not for the lazy or often absent. There is a quiz every lecture and he is a tough grader. Be prepared to learn a lot, work hard and study the web links.
Don't even bother taking this class. He assigns HW but doesn't collect it, NO extra credit options, no midterm. So your entire grade relies on the final and the DAILY quizzes, which he KNOWS people get bad grades on. He basically sets you up to fail. He hardly helps you but instead suggests you take an additional Bio class if you need help.
Makes you work for it. You MUST attend lecture. Go to tutoring if you can. He's a no nonsense kind of professor, but he's truly excellent. Entertaining and informative. Scores rely on tests a lot. Must study and not slack.
Took his class my first sem. as a freshman and failed badly. His quizzes are daily, and are not on anything he teaches, so there's no need to study. Text books weren't ever touched but he required you to buy them. For finals, he gives you a list of terms, you have to prep for all, then he randomly chooses a term for you to present the day of.
First time he offered PHYS 350 and decided to take a philosophical approach to teaching. Pros: Assignments EVERY class, all weighted the same. Final grade average of 32 assignments/32. Exams are worth the same as inclass activity. Cons:Rude, does not teach, attendance MANDATORY, mindless cycle and very strict grader with minimal feedback.
McDaid refuses to lecture in class and instead assigns group assignments sometimes graded arbitrarily. read the textbook a couple sections more than assigned, he likes to keep you on your toes. Subscribe to chegg for textbook answers. Class grade is based on inclass assessments missing class lowers your grade 3%. Take another teacher if possible
Grades are entirely dependent on your in-class quizzes. He specifically mentions that it is highly unlikely that you receive anything higher than a 7/10 on quizzes and receive a B- at best in the class. His lectures are very confusing as he slips in quite a few personal stories between information and he speaks very quickly. VERY PHILOSOPHICAL!
Worked hard for nothing. Final is ridiculous! RECORD EVERY LECTURE OR NO PASS. Textbook links are expired so my final took 2 weeks of everyday study, it's memorize 20 questions just to present 1 in class at random! Because of this his class was the only 1 I studied during finals. Don't waste your time. I never missed a class/was late. Total regret
Attendance is mandatory because he "tests" you everyday. Your grade is an average score of 32 assignments, which you take one everyday in class. During the COVID semester, he had a decent transition online, and that honestly made the class easier. Beware towards the end of P360, the material gets alot harder. Labs are easy As and can be done in1hr.
No tests or quizzes. Would only lecture for 10 minutes very vaguely. Everyday gave a question to complete, turn it in by the end of class. This comprised of your entire grade plus a final. Final was randomly assigned question from a list of questions given before. You present how you answered the question. Minimal lecture, confusing book.
only good think was free etext and no homework. assignments are on things you learn only after turning them in, doesn't have zoom or lecture vids so you're on your own. lost my respect for him when he didn't excuse nor extend the due date on the assignments for my brother the day he (my brother) had unexpected surgery. also rude. take another prof
Worst professor ever! He does not teach at all. All he does is give a paper to write during the day of class and turn it in. There is no Zoom meetings at all. He says he gives feedback on the assignments, but doesn't. He is very rude when asking for help. Sometimes he won't even assist you. Never take this professor!
unwilling to help his students learn. 1)no zoom meetings, no lecture videos or Power points. Only papers that hes composed himself 2)Imagine doing the assignment and getting one word response or no feedback at all. Youll never know what you do or dont understand 3)makes us feel stupid for asking questions. 4)doesnt communicate w/ lab instructor
Awful experience. I haven't gotten such a terrible grade in a class in over 10 years if that tells you anything. He lectures, doesn't like to be asked questions, and then you spend the rest of the class answering questions he allegedly covered in the lecture that you'll probably never get full points on. No support, nothing gained, NEVER again.
Lectures are bare bones PPs. Mini research papers that are tangentially related to the notes every class. Grades inconsistently. Ask him a question and he treats it like an inconvenience. Condescending. Has a tab called "Illuminations" where he just talks about himself. Advocates for thinking but only if you're thinking like him.
He is very hard reach Thursdays through Sundays. Claims "He's not available", but then has assignments due on Saturdays. He teaches through the socratic method, so his answers aren't straight forward. He doesn't lecture but has an assignment due each class. Also nearly impossible to get 100s on assignments. Get Ready To Teach Yourself! Goodluck.
This guy is a piece of work. Refuses to teach, so get ready to teach yourself. Super condescending and inflexible - can't imagine why he decided to be a teacher. On the plus side there aren't any exams or quizzes, so that's cool.
Professor McDaid is a normal teacher. He wants you to do the work and show you deserve a grade. Homework was not complicated nor was there much of it. He gives feedback on your assignments and available for questions. He is the typical teacher who some might find harsh if they consider being told straight up no. I recommend, you'll actually learn.
He's not a teacher he's not even a baby sitter, he gives you youtube videos and NASA articles. He doesn't teach and when you ask questions he gives you vague answers that don't help. I broke down crying one day because I didn't understand what the question was and he wouldn't help me. Worst professor by far. Chose someone else and save your sanity!
The worst professor I have ever had. All "lectures" are random youtube videos. Currently in his "online" class but he claims that being on zoom is an "invasion" of privacy yet the class is synchronous so he makes everyone log on at a certain time to complete assignments while he "chats" with you. Thinks he's funny but really isnt. Don't recommend.
What a guy this is. I took him for physics 350 and 60 and what a time that was. He teaches in such an unorthodox way. You are basically doing one practice problem all class and it kind of forces you to collab with other students. I enjoyed the social aspect of the class. The man himself doesn't teach a whole lot. Open note tests. BsclyMakeFrenClas
I took his PHYS 350 class and it was bad. Not only did he not want to lecture us he decided to write out the weekly notes in paragraph form which was horrible because he didnt teach any of the equations we used. And when in class on his discussion board you had to refresh, he would make you sound stupid when you asked a question. Would not take.
Im an English major who took this for my CSU requirement and I left this class feeling stupid. Got to know zero classmates and the highest score I ever got for an MP was a 93 and the highest I got for an Assessment was 83. My average score for both of these was 73 and it was a nightmare watching my grade balance out. Save yourself the trouble.
I have never had such a condescending professor. He does not care to teach and I don't know why he because a teacher. All his "lectures" are outsourced materials from youtube. He changed his grading scale mid-semester and screwed everyone over. I suffer from depression and he has made it so much worse. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. AVOID HIS CLASSES. DOES NOT CARE ABOUT STUDENTS.
Does not respond to emails. Does not care about students. Rude remarks when answering questions. Does not want to teach. Worst professor ever. He needs to be fired.
Dropped me after miscounting my absences then wouldn't respond to any emails.
Great teacher. FYI do the reading before coming to lectures and make note of formulas and what the symbols stand for. He teaches you by making you work for the answer. Be wary of sig figs. His teaching method is not him lecturing for an hour, just for thirty minutes and NO HOMEWORK!! He tells you everything you need to know!
Really strange way of teaching. Basically lectured for 30 mins and then gave you 50 minutes to do the daily assignment. Went off topic frequently. Kind of just gave you the equations and made you solve for a value. Not sure how effective it was at having us learn the material, but its easy to get an A with no homework or tests.
He teaches w/ powerpoints but rants a lot and goes off topic (lots of getting high jokes). Not the best professor. Gives assessment based on lecture after, so make friends to help w/ assessments (which requires a diagram and 3 sf). For lab, he gives handouts and you go to stations to do the assigned activity. No hw, exams, quizzes, or papers.
Take him for ASTR 330, PHYS 350&360 and got C, B and A. Easy A or B for Physics because just go class, copy formulas and discuss with classmates. You can ask variables and substitue them into formula, always write AOD (feedback&feelings&how to solve it) with picture and you won't get anything below B. Easy class.
Professor talked about interesting stuff. No quizzes/homework but attendance is vital. Lectures for 30 minutes then we work on an assignment based on the lecture. Sucks because you have to practically write an essay to get above 83. I recommend reading the lecture before class. Cons: condescending, seems to think everyone is dumb except himself.
Alright, so basically.... the lectures are MANDATORY if you want to keep up with the class. He gives 30-minute lectures and the rest of class time is for assessment. My final is tomorrow and there is still no grade for this class on canvas...he doesn't post the notes on canvas either so if you miss a lecture, you are kinda screwed. don't recommend
His lectures were only 30 minutes and he gave you the rest of the time to finish his assessments. His lectures were not really good at all. No quizzes and exams which is pretty good, however do not miss a class for lecture it will affect you for the final. I suggest you to make friends and a discord group chat with your class to help you out.
Easy A class, but it won't actually feel like an easy A. You will feel confused for most of the semester, but that's normal. He's not very helpful and doesn't like to answer questions, but you'll be surprised by how nice he grades. Very light workload, no hw or studying needed outside of class. he gives you the questions for the final beforehand.
Professor gives no homework or quizes. Only give a problem at the end for grading and is often done with classmates. Even if you do not get it right and try, most of the times either a B or C plus. The only exam is one problem per student on a board. Overall easy if you need to just take it for requirements, but is diffucult to get a A.
I took him for the 350 & 360 series, as well as the 360 lab. Though most of the semester was relatively easy, I think 99% of the stress was allocated toward the final. You'd be given a random problem/number off of a final sheet and you have to present in front of the whole class how you did the problem. Good luck!
this man is pure tenured narcissism. 90% of class is spent relating concepts to his own life experiences. he seemingly resents you for having questions which are often responded to with, "read the syllabus". there is no hw. there is one test at the end of the semester that is a presentation of your solution to a problem infront of the entire class.
Professor McDaid's class is great! His class pretty straightforward: attend, solve problems in-class, and you're set. Attendance is a must. He assigns a problem each lecture, due by the end of the class and graded the next class. Missing a class means losing points. But showing up and tackling the work in class makes the whole experience a breeze.
His class is very straight forward: show up, do the assignment, get it back graded the next day. Attendance is absolutely mandatory!! He is very narcissistic and pretentious but his class is almost impossible to fail. He is not very approachable or easy to talk to but following the rules of syllabus make it an easy A. The final is a group effort.
Easy A. Dont miss class or u lose 100 points worth assignment. Easy workload, no homework assigned. Doesnt use canvas often so u dont know ur grade till u email him. Gave like 35 problems for the final and randomly assigned one problem to solve infront of the class. U get problems like a month before the final tho. So fairly easy class
Professor McDaid is probably one of the best physics professors I had. He's preety straightforward, very blunt. However, he wants you to succeed. May seem uncaring towards his students but his way of teaching is very much so a "get in get out" type of vibe. Mainly group work, few quizzes, no exams, but a final project at the end of the semester.
Glad I took this professor for retaking physics. He seems intimidating but is easy to approach. No HW or exams. Attend all lectures and do the assessment and you will pass the class.
Interesting professor, you can get an A if you go to class everytime! Never miss class, it will tank your grade. Sit with people that know what they are doing! Everything is collaborative! Makes you think!!
Please ignore all of the bad reviews. I took PHYS350/360 with him and he is one of my favorite professors. Very easy class however he is extremely strict and has certain rules that he wont bend for anyone. You either like him or you dont but you have to actively try to fail his class. Attendance is MANDATORY and you cannot be late.
Professor McDaid has a unique teaching style that takes some adjusting, but the payoff is an easy A if you put in the work. Attendance is a must, but the assignments are straightforward. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for prep.
Best professor. Great lectures. Unique style. No homework. 1 in-class assignment a day, but that's basically for attendance. 2 exams + final (extremely easy), but any one of those can be dropped. So the grade is based on only 2 things. Strong personality. May come off as rude. Just don't take anything personal. Do NOT miss class. Come early.
It's his last semester teaching so he decided to add exams. Writes a bunch of unnecessary comments on your papers like "and?" or "write more" to which you've already written a lot, so they were of no help. He said exams were more of you understanding the problem rather than having right answer, yet he grades them very harsh.
This is the absolutely WORST professor I have ever had. Did not learn a single thing during the entire semester. The lectures are just him complaining about his smoker mom and the stock market. Don't even get me started on how he grades. Couldn't get anything over a 93 in the lab. Extremely condescending. THANK GOD HE IS RETIRING.
Good professor. Engaging funny lectures. Unique style of teaching. No homework, but participation matters. Can come off as arrogant and rude, but it didn't affect me. Not the best with electronics. You will have to work in a group. Overall a very good professor, with a unique and strong personality.
