I pretty much agree with everybody else. Interesting class, shes a funny teacher, but the tests suck majorly. If she did a study guide it would help a lot.

I loved Lianne!! Her personality is outgoing and her lectures are usually very interesting. I learned more in this course than any of my other classes so far..the tests weren't easy, but she's a fair grader and it was definitely worth it!!

Liane doesn't have an accent and her class is far from being hard.

Liann's tests are from the texts and from her lectures. If you pay attention, then you'll be fine. Plus, she's funny as hell. And, in the process, you may find that you've learned something. What a novel concept.

Interesting class. Quizes are a great way to bump up your grade, they are over the labs that you do in the class the day before. Exams are difficult and cover alot of information, you may need to read the chapters to understand everything.

Liane is a really interesting teacher. She's always joking around, just don't sleep in her class. Her tests are a little hard, multiple choice, however the answers are A-H.

Pretty easy class if you pay attention. She keeps the lectures interesting by relating them to everything. However, if you like the world the way it is and you would like to go on drinking water and breathing w/out thinking, not a good class. i <3 he

I never find this class boring, and usually time goes by pretty fast. The only thing that got me is the timed quizzes...

Liann is a great instructor. She doesn't like only the smart students, she likes those who put out effort. She grades fairly, you either know the material, or you don't. Take good notes during her lectures, all you have to do is study those for the exams. Most of the material is common sense anyway.

She is a good teacher, but gives out quizzes a lot that can help boost your grade. Tests are hard though! Better go to class she takes attendance.

Went in just wanting to take it as a UP and love it now! Liane is very funny and knows her stuff. Explains it very well and a lot of your grade is on quizzes which pertain to labs you do. If I was a geography major I would DEFINITLY take her again.

Great teacher, very funny and will always go the extra mile to make sure you understand. Letcures are long but impossible to pass the class without them. Warning the first test is hard (purposly) the following ones after are easy.

This is not an easy class- but it is enjoyable. Liann has a heart of gold and would do anything to help a student. She uses a lot of examples that relate things to everyday life. Took it for a UP. Shes a great lady who wants you to learn her stuff. Its not ez but she gives u quite a few chances to do well in the class. If you slack it will reflect on your grade. If you open your book it'll pay off. Pretty interesting course. Not ez Not Hard.

Really nice, dorkyfunny, tests are easy if you know all the ways people damage the environment and work it. These things were easy for me to remember because they were scary (want to know what's in your water?) some reading required, mostly lecture. 2 major assigments graded relatively easily.

Her lectures seem to drag on for several hours, but she manages to keep you interested with her humor. The quizzes give a nice boost to your grade, but the tests can be difficult. As long as you read the chapters and pay attention to the lectures, you should get good grades on the tests.

Lianne is a really intersesting and fun teacher. I definatly learned alot. The lecture can drag but she makes it interesting. Although I really like her and the class the tests are BS. I know this info back and forth but the MC questions tend to be misleading can be tricky to pick from A-H

She made the class interesting & has a cool sense of humor. The only class that I looked forward to going to. Her tests are lengthly and difficult sometimes, but other than that, she's cool.

Liann is awesome! Her lectures are packed with knowledge and are designed to get you interested in the subject. She is witty and sometimes really funny. She sets up the class for you to succeed and is thorough about what she tests and quizzes on. Attend class and prepare for it and you'll do fine.

Liann was great and I learned a ton of information that I never thought about. Lectures may seem long but that's because it is a 2 hour class. They are interesting and she's funny. If you study you can get the grade you deserve

I had Liann for ESC 105 and GEO 120.If you need one of these classes I highly recommend taking it with her if you want to enjoy class. Liann is layed back and likes to joke around but she knows her geography. I recommend going to every class and taking notes. I only skimmed chs.before test A in both

Remember rocks, weather, and photosynthesis? Its 6th grade science all over again..except that when you are tested on them, you are tricked and confused by her multiple choice questions. She is fun and nice, but hard... too hard for a UP. I'm taking it C/NC and struggling.

She is freakin hilarious during her lectures, i really liked her...but her tests are kinda confusing and you'll make stupid mistakes on them because there's so many choices...awesome professor though, she keeps it interesting :)

Liann makes a class that should be boring very fun because she is hilarious. The tests can be somewhat difficult, so make sure you study everything thoroughly. If you have any interest in earth science, take this class because you will learn a lot.

She is a great professor and knows her stuff. She explains things really well, and makes class fun because she's funny and energetic. If she taught any other class, I would take it.

Not the easiest class but she's a good teacher. Explains things well and has a good sense of humor. Only downfall is the only points in the class are tests and one project. The tests are a little challenging but she gives you a good idea about what to study beforehand.

She is a great prof. very funny and also just says some random stuff that is hilarious. Exams are always what she says they will be over and are easy if you go to class. The 1 project you do is also pretty easy. Shes really nice to if you have any questions.

The content may be moderately difficult in some respects, but it's not bad if you go to class and pay attention. And you WANT to go to class -- she is hilarious! She tries to learn your name as best she can (it's harder for the bigger classes), and as all around a very nice prof.

Yates is a very funny lady! Her class is a lot of fun. The first test is a bit hard, but they get a lot easier. Although I found that she's not very helpful if you to see her during office hours or to review a test. But the class is interesting and I recommend taking it just make sure you keep up on the reading.

Extremely entertaining! She makes whatever she is teaching fun and interesting. The exams are tough, but if you study hard, it'll pay off. Her energy and attitude towards oceanography make going to class enjoyable.

Liann was a fun teacher to have, but her exams were very tricky. A lot of the questions seem like they have mutiple answers. Each week there is usually one lecture day and one lab day, but make sure you take notes and study for the exams. Also there is an extra credit quiz that will boost your grade at the end, all in all a good teacher

Her exams are tricky but they get easier as the semester goes on. She is hilarious and I really enjoyed her lectures. She likes to talk about fecal matter and loves to make us laugh. She is very helpful and clarifies things if you go into her office hours. I recommend her but the information is boring!

AMAZING Professor. Loves to make class as fun as possible. She likes to talk about her personal experiences also to make the topic a bit more interesting. Tests are T/F, MC, and short answer (she gives 4 you pick 2 or 3)... I'd take her again!

The best teacher I have ever had. My class was at 9 in the morning and I never missed a single class. She makes learning very fun and she will ALWAYS make you laugh. Tests are sometimes tricky but if you read the material, you will be fine.

Liane is great. She makes the class interesting and her jokes are pretty witty. The tests are extremely hard, so make sure you come to class and take notes because the tests are solely based on that. Study hard and you can do decent on the tests. Go to her office hours, she's willing to as much as possible.

I had her oceanography class back in the fall of 2009. I LOVED this teacher, she taught me so much about the ocean and the class is NOT about dolphins (lol) she was my favorite teacher ever at CMU and she really took an interest in my passion which is meteorology. Take this class and you will learn a lot of useful information and she is REALLY funn

Liann is hilarious! If I didn't have this class at 9am I would have had an awesome time in this class. She explains everything well and in ways that are easy to remember. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss a lesson you will not do well on tests. The class challenged me and I learned a lot.

Pay attention to the really random facts she'll say, they always end up as extra credit on quizzes and exams!!

Shes a Great teacher! She Makes things fun, but if you dont do the reading, and dont do well on test ur going to fail her class. she does NOT give out homework, and the things you get graded on is Test, and a Project. No Homework to fall back on.

Leann is my favorite professor. Very nice and passionate about the subjects she teaches. GEO 105 was a hard class but she made it worth it. Group project at the end that's easy and worth as much as an exam. Lectures are long but interesting if you pay attention. But actually pay attention because she's a good teacher and the book is confusing.

Liann was super funny and personable but it was easy to get lost in her sarcasm and not pick up the important information she says too. You need to read the assigned chapters pre-test or else you're going to be missing info she doesn't cover in class. All tests are part short answer, part multiple choice, part T/F. Interesting but not super easy

I enjoyed the lectures, especially for a science class that I took as a UP. However, I felt the group project was graded pretty tough, especially since individual grades were not an option. Make sure to read the book since there was information on the tests that were not in the lecture. You will need to put in effort to get an A!

She definitely makes you work for a good grade, but she teaches relevant information so even those taking the class as an elective can take something from it. She is very willing to help, so ask questions! She is easily one of the best professors I've had at CMU.

Liann is the best professor I've had at CMU. Her lectures are informative, and filled with real life examples. She is also so sweet, and will give you any extra help if you need it. The labs are simple, and if you go to class and pay attention, you will pass.

Very funny! Looked forward to going to class everyday and it was a 9 AM. Never fell asleep or got bored. Skip class and you will fail because she covers a lot every class. But if you go everyday theres no reason you can't get an A.

Most of the homework you do will not be collected or graded. Most of your grade is made up of tests and quizzes. She is very energetic and makes the lectures interesting. She is a lovely woman and as long as you study and pay attention, you should be able to make it through.

I absolutely love Liann! She's super funny and caring but she makes you work for your grade. We have a lecture almost every day and she'll have powerpoints to go along with them. Takes notes. I didn't use the book a ton, but it's a good reference when you go back to study. If you come to class, do your work, and laugh at her jokes, you'll be fine.

This class was so interesting to learn about, I would take it again in a heart beat with Liann or another class with Liann. Very difficult class though. No homework, heavy lecture based. If you pay enough attention to lectures reading the book could be optional. Liann is very open for help. 1 group project at the end of the course.

I highly recommend taking a class with Liann. She's funny, approachable, understanding, & knows what she's talking about. She does lecture heavily, but as long as you pay attention & ask for clarification you won't get lost. Liann has a great sense of humor, taking her class was like listening to a friend tell you about geography. Do ask questions!

God teacher that is quite humorous

Liann without a doubt is one of the best professors here at CMU. She makes class so enjoyable, and is hilarious. She does care about students and wants the best for everyone. She does cover content well and tries not to lecture. If you ever have the chance to take one of her classes; do it. You will not regret it.

Liann has been my favorite professor i've ever had at CMU. She is the most caring and such a HILARIOUS person. She truly cares for you if you respect her. She makes you work and study for a good grade. Go to every class or else you'll be behind. lots of quizzes and tests.

Liann cared about one thing and that was her students. I had a rough time in this class with my grade but Liann was there to help me. This is a class where most of your grade is decided by quizzes and tests to be prepared to study! One thing to note is there is not a final exam.

Liann is best described as a mom. She is very caring and enthusiastic. She tries to get all her students to be science majors. She learns all her students names and connects with all of them. She did tend to get only a little frustrated when you didn't catch on to certain things, but that's just because she's passionate. Exams were a little hard.

Liann is a great geography professor. She is very knowledgable about this topic. I would reccomend taking it with her. There are frequent quizzes but they are not difficult, neither are tests. She is a very forgiving grader, but you have to pay attention in class. She does not write much on the board and you need all of the information for the test

This class has a major high school vibe to it, but if you paid attention to anything in high school, most of the material in this class should just be a review.

This class is overall pretty easy. Most of the content is easy to understand and some of it is even common sense. The Lab book is a must buy if you want to do well in the course. As a professor, she does a good job of putting in effort in and out of class to answer questions. She's also just funny. A good class to get your lab and UP credit. :)

Liann is such a kind and caring professor. I had a small class with her of only 9 people, and every morning she asked us if we wanted some coffee before she ran down to the lounge to get hers. Excellent teacher if you pay attention during the lecture then you'll ace the test. She helps with any questions and is super funny and down to earth.

If you like science she's amazing and it's a really fun class, but I took it for my UP QR and I was bored 90% of the time. Lots of lecturing, but she'll definitely help you if you ask for it. Read the textbook and do the homework and you should be good. You can tell she's passionate about the subject.

SUCH an amazing person and professor, I really enjoyed her teaching style, heavy on the lectures but everything made sense when explained. She dosn't really give out study guides and her tests consist of multiple choice, t/f and written. Not really any homework ever!

Liann is one of the funniest and kindest professors I have ever had. Her lectures are very interesting and she loves to teach. The quizzes and tests are fairly difficult, and she tests on things that are not discussed in class. If you want to do well on the quizzes and tests, you need to study well and look at the study guides she posts.

Liann is one of the best professors I've had at CMU! She keeps grading simple with only quizzes, tests, and a project and explains what's expected for each. Her lectures are engaging and easy to follow, so you'll be well-prepared to succeed if you listen closely and complete the readings. Overall, she makes learning straightforward and enjoyable.

Liann is the best. Sometimes her humor and sarcasm can get in the way, but she makes sure to keep the class informed of everything. Only 4 tests, a couple of quizzes, and a personal presentation of a personal geographic event. She is Canadian and loves to talk about her home country which is lovely to hear teaching not just from Americans.

She's a very sweet person and truly seems to want every student to succeed. The class is made up of 3 tests, 4 quizzes, and a presentation; so every grade matters. While attendance isn't mandatory; a good amount of the written questions come from lectures. Sometimes lectures can be a bit boring, but push through! Also, do the notesheets she gives.
