I loved Dr. Luong! Very nice, friendly, makes jokes in class, very passionate about diversity (specifically in her field of entomology), and her lectures always had a good vibe to them. Definitely would look for her if she taught other upper year classes.
Loved her. Notes were usually pretty clear and she makes sure you know what her expectations are for exams. Also I was super impressed by how she tries to learn everyone's name, even in a class of 200. One complaint, she doesn't post answers to practice exams or iclicker questions
This course was an upper level seminar-style and completely discussion-based, so it's hard to comment on Lien's teaching ability. However, I can say that she was very kind and respectful, and really allowed the students to work through to primary literature. The reading list was generally really interesting as well. And no assignments or exams!! :)
I loved this class! Her notes are really clear, and she explains concepts very well. I only used the textbook here and there for reference and clarification. Exams are extremely fair!
Did not like how she organized the material. You must attend class in order to fill in her notes, she doesn't post answers to anything, and she has random iclicker quizzes so if you miss it, you get a 0. Also, no practice questions for the final.
Notes are very skeletal and not very detailed. Concepts are explained well and you're expected to attend class in order to do iclicker quizzes and complete fill in the blank notes. Exams tend to be significantly harder than practice exams posted but over all a good prof.
An interesting course. Lien explains well and her notes are good, but you need to fill in the blanks. The iclicker quizes are a pain, because I didn't have any time to study for them (they are marked). There are also group activities, which are helpful. The labs are good, but not necessarily "fun". Exans are fair. Long story short, take this prof!
This course was very interesting and Dr. Luong was a great prof. She was great at given extra bonus marks through her group participation projects and iclicker questions so make sure to attend class! However, she never puts answers up to anything so make sure to pay attention! Overall, a good prof and a really nice person!
Good prof. Memorize her notes for the exams and you're set; don't bother with the textbook because she doesn't test on it. Marked iClicker quizzes were such a pain though. She gets props for making an honest effort to learn all the names of all the 400 students in her class.
Very interesting and knowledgeable. Textbook use is not mandatory and iClicker quizzes were super helpful in solidifying concepts. Take advantage of her office hours!
She is very conscientious. She is willing to do things right, willing to help students and really knows what she is teaching. I loved her! She is a great prof!
Barely went to class, but her lecture notes always saved my ass. If youre looking for a good bio 108 teacher, Luong is your gal! Best prof I had this semester, little quizzes and group activities, but definitely easy marks! Barely touched my textbook because her notes are good enough. Best prof ever!!
Lecture notes are not that detailed. Little hard to decipher what she wants you to focus on with some of the notes. Very intelligent, and nice. She keeps you interested in the topics with stories and videos. Do not forget your iClicker!!! Group activities are great summaries study guides; don't skip those days she doesn't post answers anywhere.
Little hard to decipher what she wants you to focus on with some of the notes. She keeps you interested in the topics with stories and videos. Do not forget your iClicker!!! Group activities are great summaries study guides; don't skip those days she doesn't post answers anywhere but in class.
Such a nice woman, very passionate about the course. If she is unsure of something, she looks it up later & emails the whole class through a forum to let us know more information. Gives very clear answers & her exams are fair. I really liked that she had a review class a couple days before the final! Sense of humor makes lectures amusing &enjoyable
I LOVED Loung, if you are taking Bio 108 try to get her. She will make a point of even remembering your name and taking time before class and come and talk to a different student each time. Concepts are clear and very detail oriented, always kept me engaged. Make sure to have your iclicker and try to read the textbook before class, it helps.
I really enjoyed Lien Luong's lectures. Her notes were all posted online, fill in the blank style. She had iClicker quizzes once a week, which were very similar to the exam questions. We also did in-class activities, which was a nice way to break up the lecture. Her exams were really fair, just required a fair amount of memorization.
Dr. Luong is a really nice and funny professor! I enjoyed her classes though some of the iclicker questions were challenging. She recommends reading the textbook but it is not required. As long as you follow along with her notes, you'll be fine!
I enjoyed Bio with Dr Luong, lectures weren't bad and she often had funnyinteresting clips to watch. There are iClicker tests and activities, so you should attend lecture to get those easy marks. Exams were fair, though the final was much more challenging than the midterm. Don't need the textbook, all info on exams is from her notes. Great prof!
Excellent explanations
Very clear with explanations. Really made an effort to get to know her students. Often gave quizzes to check attendance and understanding. Pretty engaging with lectures. Really good professor.
The material is not the most interesting until you talk about the evolution of animals which is the last third of the course. I did enjoy the class but to get an A you will definitely have to put in a lot more work then usual as it is A LOT of memorizing phylums, characteristics, etc.. Great prof I really enjoyed having her, get her for bio 108.
The midterm average was lower than she expected so she gave everyone a very easy chance to get an extra 11%! Lectures can be long and boring and getting an A in this class will require a lot of memorization. Does group activities to help explain concepts which are useful sometimes! Clear lectures and notes, would recommend her for bio 108.
Really funny prof :) She has very detailed and jam-packed lectures, so go to them! Tests are rather difficult, but she'll give lee-way if the whole class did terrible. Overall she was great
Amazing prof. Biodiversity is not my thing but she makes the lectures really interesting and sometimes funny. There would be some group activity but it'll help you understand the concepts very well. She's a very thoughtful prof, she gave us a review session before the finals that helped me immensely. A+ prof :)
Lien was awesome! Attend class, as her notes are posted online but are only fill-in-the-blank. If you pay attention and do well in the lab, this is an easy A. Just beware that the exams are not her own as she often grabs questions from online quiz banks; find these and you're set! She also loves personally getting to know students, great prof!
Great teacher. Knows how to introduce humor and make something interesting out of what many find a rather dry subject. Notes are super clear if you spend time to actually read them. Do show up because you paid for it. Engaging classroom activities once a week and iclicker quizzes that serve as good practice and perhaps even questions for the final
Looking at the other reviews, I did not have the same experience as other students. I found her notes to be extremely inconsistent and hard to understand, but you should attend class to keep up with the blanks in the notes. Also found it hard to keep up with the lectures as she goes through the material quickly and just reads off the slides.
She is very helpful and isn't too rough with grading. The textbook is barely used. Attend lectures and you will do fine.
Amazing and hilarious prof. Her notes are clear but you need to attend lectures as she doesn't post the full ver. Midterm is multiple choice and final has mainly multiple choice and some short answer. Very easy going and willing to re-explain concepts. I would definitely take her class again.
Luong is an outgoing and humorous prof, making her lectures way more bearable considering how boring the BIO108 curriculum is. That being said, it does get dry at times, and sometimes it seems she's not interested in what she's teaching either. Her notes aren't the most organized, fill-in-the-blank powerpoint pdf's can get very messy over time.
Great Professor, she is passionate about most of the information covered in the lectures. I always found lectures to be great but if you miss one or two you don't have to worry that much since most of the information covered is posted online. The midterm was a bit tough but the final was definitely a breeze. I highly recommend her!
Lien was awesome, her lecture notes were clear and concise and you knew exactly what to study for. She actually cares for the 400+ students in the class, she tried to remember everyones names she spoke to, and responds to emails within the hour of sending them. She does iClicker quizzes so attendance is relatively mandatory for participation.
Exceptional professor. She genuinely wants her students to get the concept. I have never seen an professor make such a genuine effort to know the names of students in 250 student lecture hall. She explains all the concepts very well and is very helpful if something does not make sense.
Probably one of the best Profs going. Truly cares about her students. She always makes the lectures super interesting, and connects what we learn to other things as well as our lives. She makes an effort to learn everyone's names, and makes her expectations clear. She tries to mix up her learning with "blended learning." Overall great choice.
Professor Luong is great, she's very passionate about the material and cares about every student. She makes an effort to learn the names of her students and makes jokes during her lectures that add character when the material can sometimes be a bit dry. Her exams are very fair and she goes through examples every week so you are prepared for exams.
Bio 108 is a lot of memorization, and understanding. Luong has quizzes every Wednesday, 5 questions that are fairly easy. Fridays there is usually a group activity. She is a very funny prof and I really enjoyed listening to her lectures.
She's really nice and tries to know people's names, even if there's like 300 students. She encourages people to ask questions, had iClicker quizzes and online activities. Her notes are fill in the blank so you do have to go, you don't need a textbook, her tests are all lecture based. Super clear on what she wants you to know.
I love Dr. Luong. She is an amazing professor, she made the content heavy Bio 108 really interesting! She has plenty of iClicker quizzes as well as online quizzes and you get feedback on both which is really helpful. Is willing to answer any questions, and tries to learn students names! She's great, 100% would take her class again.
She was awesome!! Don't even need the textbook because she is super specific about expectations! Really nice and striving for success of all her students :)
Without a doubt the best prof I had this semester. Cares about every student and wants them to succeed. Attendance is required due to iClicker quizes, but I always looked forward to her lectures regardless. It is a memorization heavy course, so revision is required for a good grade. Tests are very fair though.
Love her! She made the class interesting and inclusive. You didn't have to be afraid to ask questions and her answers were very concise. She really promotes "blended learning" - using videos, mind maps, I-clicker quizzes etc. I found this very helpful when trying to study for her exams (especially her mind maps!)
Dr. Luong is an amazing prof because she is very passionate about what she does and she gives very clear notes about what you need know. The material in the class is relatively boring and requires a lot of memorization however if you have to take biol 108 for credit I would strongly recommend taking her class.
Her lecture slides are everything! She tests so fairly, if its not on the slides, it is not tested. She is such a nice lady and makes the biggest effort to learn every students name.
Genuinely cares about peoples' success, and if you show up to all lectures there are TONS of ways to boost your mark. She gives weekly iClicker quizzes and often tells you answers for some of the questions, provides sample midterms/finals before the exam that literally have some questions copy/pasted on it. Gave amazing review session before final.
Lien Luong is by far the best Biol108 prof out there. Her midterm and final are easy if you study. To be honest, if you pay attention during lectures and just review the material a fair bit before tests, you will get a A/B. She is so caring and tries learning everyone's name. She's also hilarious. Can't recommend her enough!!
Really awesome prof for 108. Lot of my friends who previously took this course complained about the amount of content, but Dr. Luong made it super manageable. Weekly iClicker quizzes force you to keep up, so then all you need is a refresher before the exams. She also makes the class and seemingly dry material very interesting and applicable.
Dr. Luong is a great prof. It's clear she is very knowledgeable in the subject of biology and never fails to keep the class interesting. She had us do an iClicker quiz and a group activity every week that helped lots in the learning process. Luong is also very caring and tons of fun. She even brought some hissing Madagascar cockroaches to class!!
I loved this class. Her lectures are very interesting. Don't try and take your own notes though; she goes too fast. You have to either print off the slides or download them onto your computer. The class was fairly easy, so our grades ended up being brought down by the bell curve.
There was so much material to cover which was usually boring things but somehow she always made it interesting and easier to understand and remember. Also very caring and hilarious, you can tell she is passionate about teaching. Probably my favorite class this semester and would take it again if i had the chance.
One of the most caring profs I have met. I found it most helpful to depend on her lecture notes when studying and read/skim the textbook to help make things clearer. Her class is pretty easy as long as you try & one tip is to keep up with the material and consistently review old material to help lighten the study load for the final.
Overall one of the best profs I have ever had! Her tests were always fair and matched her lecture material. Her notes are straightforward, and are a great tool to bring to class. She is always cracking jokes, and honestly cares for her students, tries to learn their names, and even gives out candy every now and then! Would highly recommend!
One of the best professors ever, very caring and repeats information very clearly
Professor Luong was genuinely interested in explaining everything to us and making sure we did not just memorize everything. She emphasized understanding and had active learning exercises so that we don't just go home and memorize, and she would ask us how we prefer to learn something so that it fits the class as a whole. She's awesome!
Dr. Luong has clear passion for teaching/educating students, and cares that students do well. The course material could get a dry at times, but she made it interesting and fun. I would love to have her in a harder class as she is truly an educator that gets concepts across. Downside: clicker questions had to be correct, not just participation
Way easier than some of the other profs in Biol 107/108 and is very friendly, although there is lots of material and the lab component can be quite hard, the class midterm/finals are very manageable with a bit of studying.
If you have to take bio 108, take it with her. Her exams are easy! You might be tempted to skip class because she posts all her notes except for the blanks, but answering clicker Q's and listening to the discussion will really help with the material. Material is not complex but there's a lot of it, just give yourself time to study and you'll ace it
Lien Luong is an amazing prof! She thoroughly explains topics, posts all her slides, and does helpful in class activities like mind maps. The midterm was fair and the final was super easy. This was my favourite first year course thanks to Luong!
Dr. Luong is a great first year prof to have. Coming out of high school university will be challenging and you might not realize how amazing her lectures are and how much the active participation can help you for . I wish I had all my bio classes with her. She usually gets to know most students names and tries communicating with all her students.
Dr. Luong is by far the best prof I've had! She really cares for her students and goes the extra mile to make sure everyone does well. Her in-class iClicker quizzes and activities are very useful and helpful. The questions on the midterm and final are very similar to the iClicker quizzes. The midterm and final are fair and focus on lecture notes.
Best class I took in my undergrad
She's a nice lady but her ratings here are not accurate. Although she seems somewhat passionate, she only reads off her lecture slides which are extremely disorganized. She tests very trivial content that are often hidden in her mess of slides. She also mumbles when she talks. Definitely not as good as her ratings make her out to be
Amazing professor. Dr. Luong tries her best to memorize every single students name who asks questions in her class, even with a lecture of 300 students. Her teaching style really engages the students, with quizzes every week and in class activities. All her notes are fill in the blanks, so attendance is mandatory.
She is a very kind, passionate, funny and caring professor. Only problem I had was the lecture notes often contained irrelevant material and she often read off the slides. Other than that, the lectures were engaging and her weekly iClicker quizzes are great for review and easy participation marks.
Lien Luong is AMAZING! I honestly do not really like BIO108, but with her teaching the course, I was able to get through it. Midterms and Final are heavily based on her notes and discussion that happens in class. It is really easy to get an A in her class as long as you show up to every single lecture and do the quizzes!
Funny, great lectures. Clear explanations, iClicker quizzes for essentially free marks, what more can you ask for? Great prof.
I'm not a social person so I found her lectures quite unenjoyable. I learned more/better from reading the textbook than from her explanations. iClicker quizzes/activities (for marks) every Wednesday and Friday meant that attendance was mandatory and you had to stay on top of studying bio at all times. Not an awful prof though.
Super friendly and caring. It's obvious that she's super passionate about what she does and makes lectures interesting and engaging. I normally hate bio, but actually ended up loving this course. In-class activities are fun and a good way to get extra marks. Study lots and you'll do well.
She was a great lecturer and explained concepts well. I was able to get a very high grade in this course and my advice would be to READ the textbook. She says it's not tested on and it isn't but it really helps with memorizing concepts since her notes can be sometimes a little messy. Also draw about cladograms!! The course is fantastic though!!
Excellent Prof with an impressive memory for names. She is engaging, shows videos, and has clear notes, (uploaded notes have gaps). She genuinely cares if her students succeed or not, and her class was my favorite of the semester. The textbook is totally unnecessary. However, watch out for that Lab final, a very tricky test.
Professor Luong is amazing. She cares about each and every student even when the classes are huge. She managed to remember many students names which I thought showed how much she cared. Her lectures are super informative and very clear. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Luong is a great prof who really cares about her students. BIOL108 isn't a great course for a lot of people but she teaches it well. The lab for this course isn't fun or easy, but her exams are fair and not that difficult if you study. Only minor complaint is that her powerpoint slides could be a little better organized. Would recommend.
Awesome prof. One of my favourites. She was very kind too and happy to answer students' questions. Had interesting lectures and decent exams. Had very clear fill-in-the-blanks notes, so make a friend and sleep in.
Dr. Luong is a great bio prof! Her lectures were fairly interesting, and she mixed it up a bit to make it more interactive. She definitely knows her stuff, and also only tested on things covered in lecture. She was also very friendly :)
She is so kind, and very passionate about her work. This course is very content heavy but she makes it easier with class activities, and concept maps. There are weekly quizzes that are generally pretty easy. As long as you go to class you will do well.
Great prof! She cares about students and even takes time to learn names in a 250+ person lecture. Make sure you go to every class because she does lots of in-class quizzes and activities for marks that reinforce learning and make the class a breeze, as well as (minimal) fill in the blank notes. Also, she tests directly off of the slides!
I love her. Every time I had her class, it lifted up my mood. She is clear, funny and knows what she is talking about. She made classes entertaining with daily quizzes, activities and concept maps. If you can, you should get in her class!
Dr. Luong was by far my favorite prof. this year, she tries her best to memorize everyone's name and chat with everyone at least once. She cares about her student's success and will answer questions with good time. The course has a fair amount of memorization but Dr. Luong made it fun and easy to want to learn. Take her class!
TAKE HER SHE IS AMAZING!! The best prof out there! Explains concepts really well, takes time clarify anything and genuinely cares about her students. Exams are really straight forward and test only in class notes. Has easy in class iclicker quizes for marks. 10/10 Easy A.
Dr. Luong is amazing! She explains things so well and it's evident that she actually cares about her students. Biol108 is a lot of memorization, but she makes it easy. Take her class!
Really caring prof. Notes have fill in the blanks that aren't posted so go to lecs. She sometimes just reads from the slides but the slides are all you really need for the final and MT. She is very good at answering questions if you ask, so ask them she has a great deal of knowledge that isn't always mentioned in lec. Great prof :)
She is an amazing prof. Her lectures are dry and boring. She is happy to answer every question and tries to remember your name in a class of 200+ students. Midterm is a bit difficult than the final but final and lab boosts your grade up significantly. tests right off the lecture slides, so be attentive in filling up the blanks in the lecture slides
Between the weekly quizzes and mandatory activities attendance is more or less forced. The material itself was what one would expect for a intro course but there are a lot of small details and very similar sounding names to try and keep straight. They tend to ask questions where more than one answer seems correct but differ by a small detail.
Her tests are mean: asks two similar answers and you have to find tiny details between them. Puts more effort into learning students names than actually teaching the material. Not a clear speaker, reads in a monotone voice directly off the lecture slides. Also, she holds a review jeopardy session which only confused people more. Avoid if possible!
She is not the nicest person when it comes to having to miss class due to hospitalization. This was very unfortunate to see as the person hospitalized missed 2 weeks due to a known condition and she was nothing but dismissive.
She's an amazing prof. She really cares about the students and tries to learn their names.
First, she is superb. Second: OMG she brought A TARANTULA AND LET ME HOLD IT!!!!!
She's a fine lecturer who speaks clearly and explains concepts well, but her class contains a lot of unnecessary pop quizzes. It feels like she takes attendance marks just to make people show up because she's just reading off her slides. The class is very easy and absolutely identical to British Columbia Biology 11, but her tests did contain errors
Definitely a professor I suggest taking if you have the opportunity to, she is absolutely amazing! There is so much information that she goes over but she makes it fun and connects it to all aspects of life which makes it so much easier to learn. There are many activities and even games that really help learn the material as well.
Amazing, prof. Really. She makes lectures interesting for the most part (although, plants were bland, no matter who taught it imo) and is a heavy advocate on active learning and repetition. I've seen a lot of people complain about the weekly ePoll quizzes, but I personally think it's a wake up call to study the material every week, very beneficial.
Easy midterm and easy final. However attendance is mandatory, as the notes are fill in the blank, and there are weekly quizzes. Lectures tend to be boring and in my opinion a waste of time, as she does not speak clearly and simply reads off slides most of the time.
I would recommend Dr. Luong to all first year students! She adeptly explained key concepts from the course material. Classes were often engaging and fun due to Dr. Luong's great energy throughout lecture. Lecture Notes are fairly clear, so I would recommend student print out the notes, and make additional side notes and charts.
Lien was one of the best profs ive ever had! Her lectures were awesome and she helped so much to make sure we went over everything we needed to know for exams. I would definitely take a class with her again!!
Dr. Luong's lectures are exactly what will be on the exams. Textbook isn't necessary. There are weekly 5 questions quizzes in class and a weekly activity for participation marks, so attending class is important. Her lectures are also fill in the blank presentations that see doesn't post online w the filled blanks.
She is an amazing prof, this class isn't easy and there is a ton of material to cover but she does everything she can to make in interesting and memorable. Notes are good, go to class and pay attention and you won't really need to study for the weekly quizzes. Her mid term and final were very fair. Really cares for her students and their success!
This was an excellent class! Dr. Luong gave great lectures and made the dry material interesting. Midterm and final were pretty straightforward, but show up to her review sessions for exams because she covers important topics that will be tested.
I didn't think BIOL in university was going to be this hard. Lost interests at the end of the course so it was too late to drop. I think the content was a bit boring and her tone makes me want to fall asleep. It is a lot to remember and textbook is needed for her quizzes. This course makes me admire those Science students who gets all A.
Dr. Luong completely revolutionized the course to modify it for online learning and it worked marvelously. The class average was at 88% and she let us keep our grades as specified in the breakdown instead of scaling us down. She is very good at keeping students engaged but be prepared to work hard on learning details.
Nothing better than an eccentric professor with a clear slide format! Not to mention the participation activities were always a blast (both the activities themselves and the prizes when we did a Jeopardy-style review before the final)! This class did, however, fill up three and a half notebooks (as I wrote down every word from every slide).
Took this class with high expectations but I am very disappointed. She was pretty cold when the entire class had concerns about various topics such as quiz difficulty, time limits, and my favourite, her lowering our marks by fully removing questions based on typos SHE has made. This class has been a LOT more stressful than it needed to be.
The amount of mistakes in the quizzes and grading is almost laughable. With one minute per question, it is difficult not to waste time on a question that has no correct answer. Clearly she is trying to make an already difficult semester more unbearable. Super disappointing.
Lein is a caring prof and provides great lectures. She has weekly assignments and quizzes to replace the midterm, which enhances learning as well. Final was really easy and fair. Responds to emails fast. I really recommend taking her!
She was a very good prof, though some of her quizzes had mistakes, I think she genuinely wanted us to succeed in the course. The quizzes were ranging in difficulty but there was never one which was impossible if you at least skimmed your notes. She also seems passionate about bio and tried to talk with students and get to know them.
Lien does a good job keeping the content quite interesting. Her notes were well organized, and the quizzes and final were extremely fair (despite common spelling mistakes). Only complaint is that a lot of the activity assignments seem like a waste of time, but they are good mark boosters. She doesn't use a curve, which is really nice.
Seriously, Dr. Luong is a brilliant educator. She puts a lot of time and effort into ensuring that we understand the material and is always open to student participation. She doesnt use the curving system because she does not want to penalize us for a high class average, which should always be the case. Overall, shes the best choice for BIOL 108.
Professor Lien Luong was wonderful! Her classes were very entertaining and she often gave personal stories which I liked. Her Bio 108 class contained of lots of quizzes and activities which was nice because it wasn't all just counting on big exams. Lien Luong really put alot of effort in and it showed.
Dr. Luong takes the time before and after every class to get to know her students :) There are weekly assignments and quizzes, which only take about 30 minutes to complete each week, so you have many opportunities to boost your mark! She is happy to discuss assessment answers and has even changed answers after respectful class discussions.
I've found writing my own notes was the best way to study for this course. All quizzes and the final were open book. Professor Luong does talk quite slowly so I rewatch lectures at 1.75x or 2.00x. I've noticed that some things she said have contradicted and there are many mistakes in her quizzes which makes answering some questions quite difficult.
Great prof. Super into bugs, lots of neat stories from her life. No midterm but heavier weighting on weekly tests. There were weekly activities and post activities as well. All around enjoyable and not too difficult. Fair marker. The lab for this class was awesome and the TA's were great. Final was mostly open book and no SEM. Highly recommend!
WOW! As a first-year student, taking Biol 108 class Dr. Luong did not disappoint the lectures were great and the notes slides were so clear, all you needed for exams and quizzes. I recommend writing the important things she says in class on the side. So kind and cares for students I loved this class if you see Luong's class don't hesitate sign up
Twas a good class, teaching was great! Although the weekly graded epoll quizzes were unnecessarily difficult. Also had a group project over reading week and had to sit through 21 group presentations. Yep you read that right, no typo. 21 student presentations all crammed within the last 2 Sems totalling 6 hours. Our Sem final had questions on them:(
She genuinely is the GOAT of ecology-related biology. She cares a LOT about what she teaches and is incredibly passionate, and it shows in her lectures and course material. Her tests are quite fair as well. Ultimately she sets you up to succeed, I had her for BIOL108 as well and if you have her for that class, you'll enjoy it!
professor Luong is one of the best profs ever!!! She is so caring and funny and always makes her lectures super engaging and interesting even though the content could have been more boring without her. Weekly Epoll quizzes weren't the best. This class wasn't very stressful because of her and I would 100% recommend taking one of her classes.
She is very funny and passionate about what she teachers. Quizzes were super easy but her weekly epoll quizzes that count for marks are very frusturating. No textbook.
Dr. Luong was an amazing professor but the course was a lot harder than I expected, maybe because I don't have an imin background. Super interesting course but be prepared to memorize lots of info!
Super great teacher! Our grade was made up of a bunch of different weekly quizzes and assignments which really help learning. Note: the final and midterm aren't online anymore like some people in here have said, that was only a covid thing and it was very disappointing. They were pretty easy regardless.
Dr. Luong is a great professor! Truly cares about the students despite the size of this intro-level course. Her lectures are clear, and she tries to make this subject matter more enjoyable with in-class activities to boost your grade and cool videos. Her exams are very fair. Content-heavy class.
LOTS of memorization. She was a good prof, however, doesn't provide students with notes or answer keys so you have to go to class to get the content. The tests were fair and based primarily on the notes given during class, although was trickier than I expected.
Professor Luong was really good, obviously cares a lot about her students and does her best to remember names. The once a week epoll quizzes are a little annoying, but overall nothing to complain about. She did a great job making the dry course fun.
She's super nice and is very passionate about what she teaches so she really makes the lectures interesting. Active learning like group activities, weekly ePoll quizzes, and weekly online activities were a big component and can help your grade (if you keep up with all material). The exams are tough but fair, just make sure you know your stuff.
I didn't review any material until it was time to have a midterm, use the E-poll quizzes to your advantage to study through the semester and review and you will do a lot better. Great prof, taught everything you need, can't complain.
Dr. Luong is great. Uses filled in lecture notes but is good at explaining things and is very fair.
Loved her teaching style and the notes were clear but had fill in the blanks. She gave clear expectations and the exams weren't too difficult. The weekly ePoll quizzes and assignments weren't hard.
Although I didn't like the fact she doesn't use zoom or means of viewing the lecture at home, her lectures were super fun and she's enthusiastic about what she's teaching. The content is also very heavy, making flashcards or notes for every unit to review at the very end is pretty helpful in my opinion.
Worst class taken in 3 years. Unclear lectures that I did not feel prepared me for exam questions on theory. Had a quiz almost every class which the class always needed a break after. Did not seem to want to make student life easier. Too much theory in the course.
Dr Luong is an amazing prof, however, she NEEDS to change her grading scale. the class average was set as a B- but there was a 2% difference between a B- and C+, meaning that a 75-77 was a C+. thats madness and ruined a lot of GPAs. typically the average class % average is a B, but in this case it was a B-, but you're likely going to be below.
Professor Luong makes this content-heavy class enjoyable. Her lectures are clear, and she uses in-class activities to boost your grade. The exams are fair, but you'll need to stay on top of the material. Flashcards and unstuckstudy were super helpful for study prep.
The class was very content heavy. The averages were high but I didn't find the grading scale too bad. If you want to do really well you'll have to put in a lot of work memorizing every detail. Every tues we had an in class quiz and every thurs there was participation grade so you have to attend. The seminar is a grade booster and my TA was great
