Professor The is impossible to understand in class. You do have to answer iClicker questions everyday in class, so make sure you go! All test questions are i Clicker or mastering physics questions. It's doable, but only if you're willing to teach yourself! Try to get another professor if you really want that A
He is nice but not a very good professor because you can't understand him at all and his test are impossible! I don't recommend him.
Hard to understand and hard to pay attention to. You basically have to teach yourself. If possible get another teacher. His test are decent, not failing hard, but decent. His study guides do not help a lot because they make you study one thing and he will put something totally different on the test, something like 10 times harder and extremely diff
Horrible professor! You cannot understand anything he says. His powerpoints are straight out the book and he doesn't teach only reads out the problem. You get little help with the homework which is extremely difficult to do. Test are very unpredictible. look forward to teaching yourself.
Awful professor. Can't even speak English. Doesn't teach at all. He is THE worst professor I have had at Clemson thus far. DO NOT GET HIM AT ALL COSTS!
Horrible.
Nice guy and is willing to help if you just go to him after class or email. However he's hard to understand and repeats himself a thousand times about easy stuff yet goes really quickly through hard material. All test questions are from the homework or the iclicker questions, however you have to teach yourself how to do them. Don't take him.
Worst professor I have ever had at Clemson. He is near to impossible to understand and his tests are not reflective of the material that he attempts to teach in class. Try to avoid taking him.
This guy is awful. You might as well give your iclicker to someone and not even go to class, because you will not learn a thing.
he is horrible. this semester he did not make the test all i-clicker and mastering physics problems only a few. like the others said, you will have to teach yourself because he is impossible. AVOID AT ALL COST!
This class is difficult. Dr. The is willing to help and is really nice. If you sit in class and focus on material you can make a B in the class. We had 2 tests& final. He counts your online hwk as a test grade so its an easy way to make a good test grade. I clicker is almost worth another test grade. Attendance is required. Work hard=descent grade
In the name of all things holy....try not to get this guy.....of course he's pretty much the only teacher available.....i honestly wonder if the morons that hired him have ever even talked to him....maybe they would have realized that it's hard for students to learn from someone who doesnt speak english
Dr. The is a nice guy and tries to help. He can't speak English, however, which presents a problem. I made 100 on every test, but sitting in class was awful. So many iClicker questions... All test questions come from quiz/HW/and example problems. Just study them, if you can manage to suffer through it, and you should get an A/B. Not too hard.
He is a horrible teacher. If you are at every class, he will be fair. However, if you miss classes for any reason (even with a doctors excuse as I did) he will not help you at all. Homework counts as a big part of your grade which can help or hurt you. Almost impossible to understand, terrible English. If you can get another teacher...do it.
Wow! This guy is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Sometimes he seems nice, but don't let that fool you (it has fooled the physics dept. for decades). He has been here, in America, in Clemson for longer than I have been alive and he still can't speak English!! He act very weird if you got to his office; a lot of weird things in there.
Very clear, helpful, and knowledgable. He does not speak english particularly well, but speaks it well enough to get his point across. He will go to great lengths to make sure you understand the material, and offers many extra help opportunities.
His English isn't perfect, but I could understand everything that he said. He made a big effort to make sure that we understood the material. There were a lot of study/help sessions, including homework help about once a week. I would definitely take him again.
Terrible teacher and unfair grader. Made a grading mistake on my exam and went back to take points off.
Seems like a nice guy but very hard to understand. If you really focus it IS possible to understand him, but i found it nearly impossible to focus that hard for more than a few minutes. You will end up having to teach yourself everything. Making an A is possible but takes a lot. Curves tests if everyone does bad, which is usually the case.
He seems nice, but unless you focus really hard and follow in your text you will be completely lost. If you are not a native english speaker you wont understand a word he says. Even if you are a native english speaker you're going to be lost. True story. I made Cs in all the exams but the final. MasteringPhysics is a life saver in your grade.
Of course he cant help it that hes hard to understand, and he tries, but hes boring as hell to listen to in lecture. 90 percent of the people there aren't even paying attention and i dont blame them, also uses iclicker. I hate iclicker.
Dr. The is a terrible teacher. His accent horrendous and completely incoherent but even when you can understand him some of the things he says are just incorrect. The class overall is not hard, just read the book and do the practice tests and you can do fine, just don't rely on Dr. The to teach you anything.
The is nice, but very hard to understand. Go to review/HW sessions and SI. iClicker is done everyday, and there is a lot of mastering physics homework.
Dr The really deserves better ratings than he has gotten so far. First off, is 100x better than Brown because he actually understands what he is talking about. Also cares about students and offers tons of help sessions.Slight language barrier but you get used to it. I would recommend him!
If you must have Professor The, prepare to teach yourself everything you'll learn. He is unable to adequately explain the concepts, so attending lecture only results in a gain in iclicker questions rather than knowledge. He is a sweet guy, but his personalty doesn't begin to make up for his lack of clarity.
Professor The's class was by far my hardest class of the semester. He really is a nice guy who tries really hard for his student's to understand, but it doesn't work. Nobody knows whats ever going on and people just use class time to do their masteringphysics. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Also his final exam was impossible. Impossible.
Dr. The is a nice guy and does his best to help his students. He has review sessions almost on a weekly basis. His accent is noticeable, but I didn't find it too much of a problem. Mastering physics and old exams really helped to prepare for exams. As long as you do practice problems and know how to apply equations, it's really not too hard.
Dr. The is a really nice guy, but the class was 250+ people, and he really can't use english well, so he couldn't explain anything. I wouldn't suggest taking him, because the class was extremely difficult for me. He tries his hardest, and he is a great guy, but he just is not fit to teach 250 freshman advanced sciences
If you are intelligent you'll do fine. Just read your book and do the HW. Review his old exams and you will make an A.
Dr. The definitely knows what he is talking about. It is easy to make an A because you have so many resources. Dr. The offers tons of help sessions and is willing to help you out if you simply take your time to ask. He also does not mind repeating things. His does have an accent but its not a big deal. I could clearly still understand him.
Here is how you make an A. Actually attempt the Mastering Physics, instead of copying answers off the internet like half the class did, and go to class answers the iClicker everyday. Then go over the practice exams before the test. That's it. Just do what you have to and you will be just fine. Good Luck!
Go to class, DO mastering physics and the class isn't bad. However, the class drags on and on making it very hard to pay attention.
The class isn't that difficult but it's hard to understand him and the lectures get boring quick. Hw is very easy and tests aren't bad if you stay on top of your stuff.
Dr. The is extremely smart, but extremely confusing at times. This doesn't mean you should dread taking his class! The tests are simple, and he gives you too many resources to do poorly! However, sometimes in class, you will lose him, and what he's telling you might not be something you need to know...
Dr. The tries really hard, he's just not an interesting teacher. I only went to class to get the iClicker points, and then worked on my homework there instead. Not a bad option if you've got some background in Physics, but I would not recommend him for anyone just starting out unless you want to teach yourself. Practice exams were helpful at least.
Dr. The is very knowledgeable about his subject and tries hard but is a bit unclear at times when trying to communicate with the class. He also has a very noticeable accent which can make him hard to understand at times. Overall though, the class is kind of a joke with it's online homework and online exams. You can get an A with little work.
Take this class if it is your ONLY OPTION. Lih-Sin is VERY hard to understand, and VERY VERY hard to pay attention to. No one in class pays attention to him and you end up teaching yourself everything. The material isn't difficult but teaching yourself is.
Very thick accent and not good at answering questions. Boring class and not very useful. He's hard to understand and often explains easy concepts multiple times while glossing over or rushing through more important information. If you attempt the webassign homework and do a couple practice exams as review before an exam the class is very easy.
Dr. The is really passionate about physics and honestly I'd recommend him. He really cares about his classes and helps out with your grades to give you all the help you need. If you put the effort in, you can make an A, but it's a lot of practice and teaching yourself because it's pretty tough to understand his thick accent/physics jargon.
Dr. The is a nice guy and his little demonstrations in class cracked me up. He means well and really does know his stuff. I'm signed up to take him for Physics 2 next fall. He isn't really clear and his lectures are sometimes tough to pay attention in but I managed a B so I can't complain. I would recommend!
This class is typically easy for people that have already taken physics(in high school) as this class doesn't really cover new material. However, if you have never taken physics, this class is hard and must be self taught. Best suggestion is to practice with old exams, as that is where they pull questions from.
Dr. The is pretty great. Although he's not the best teacher, he's really helpful at his homework help sessions and office hours. His demonstrations are hilarious, and he really tries his best to keep students interested. Plus, he curves tests if everyone does bad. I recommend him.
I found The to be a good professor. Physics 2210 is definitely easier than the first physics class. This class is definitely more a "teach yourslef" course. Get Chegg for the homework, and go to class for the iClickr questions.
Accent makes lectures endless. Make sure to do tophat because its a huge part of your grade. tests strongly resemble old tests so study those, but they really reflect rearranging equations more than actual physics.
The is very friendly and good at explaining topics. He uploads all the power points on blackboard. The power points have the questions that are asked through top hat in class, so you find the answers before class and get them right. He has a strong accent, but it's not an issue because it's easy to get used to.
Physics sucks no matter what, he wasn't TERRIBLE but the lecture slides were hard to keep up with bc the ones on blackboard were different. iClicker quizzes every lecture, use chegg or Phys tutoring in Kinard for the homework, he dropped a few quizzes, only counts top 4 exams so u can exempt the final with an A, his accent is honestly not a problem
Strong accent, take in class quizzes each class and it counts for 10% of the final grade.
Good man, bad teacher. Thick accent and large lecture hall class size are not a good combo for Professor The. Recommend not taking general physics with this guy.
Great guy! Really enjoyed his class! Physics is hard but you will enjoy it with him.
Loves teaching. Very caring very funny. I just think Physics is hard and its a hard class because of that. But I highly recommend this teacher and would love the opportunity to take another class by him in the future.
Professor The is like the sweet grandpa you didnt have. He definitely knows his physics but his lectures are basically just working out what the textbook says. If you can do well on the daily quizzes, and do all of the homework, you will have wiggle room to definitely get at least a B. Definitely practice with the old exams.
We all gave The a standing ovation on the last day of class. We respect him and he does want to help. However, the class is just ridiculously hard. Homeworks are practically impossible and are worth a large amount of your grade. Exams are tough as can be. Had to take twice just to pass by 1% and I worked hard both times!
A lot of people do not understand that this is a flipped class. Duh he goes fast! You're supposed to read before class! What people also don't realize is that he will give you EXACTLY what is on the test on the review ppt. We had 4 exams and I made 100s on two of them and a 95 on the final. Do your homework and the review ppts and its an easy A.
Gives in-class quizzes every class as a way to make sure you come to class, but he uploads the PowerPoints with the quiz questions before class so you can look up the questions and get them right. Homework took forever each week but he has really helpful homework help sessions. Tests were stressful but study the old exams (and they are curved too).
How to take Dr. The's Physics 1&2 classes 1. Go to class every day for iClicker quiz & attendance 2. He teaches fast, so don't bother taking in-depth notes 3. If he does a demonstration, clap for him. He loves it 4. Chegg all of the homework, it's nothing like the tests 5. Do practice exams before a test, it's all you need 6. Never use the textbook
I love Dr. The so much!! He is so sweet and does the funniest in-class demonstrations. Physics with Calc is a hard class, but taking it with Dr. The is by far the best option. Do the practice exams to study, ask him questions, and you'll be fine.
Dr. The is a funny guy, I would recommend taking him. This class is not challenging if you are decent with math. Lectures are boring, homework is sometimes challenging. Exams are easy.
Don't take this professor- take Brown instead. The is very hard to understand and drags out lecture + iClicker quizzes. If you go to his office hours, don't expect to get any help. I went to ask him to explain a few problems and he kept saying "Why don't you understand this??" I was there to try to understand and all it did was discourage me.
We used iclicker for attendence/in class quizzes(get the app on your phone). We used WebAssign for homework. YOU WILL WANT CHEGG FOR THE HOMEWORK. All PHYS 1220 classes have the same homework, so make a friend and split the cost of it. The class was a huge lecture hall and honestly it wasn't worth going to except for the attendance points.
If you suck at math/physics and you don't like feeling like an idiot when you ask for help, take literally anyone else in the physics department.
In class TopHat questions that are garbage and expect you to come to class having already read the chapter, so he can go over the chapter word for word in class. Tests no longer reflect previous exams, and now are split half and half between the poorly designed ExpertTA questions and old exam questions. Take it with anyone else.
Lecture heavy!Occasionally he will do a demonstration which is fun to applaud him for (He loves it!).He is passionate about physics but he does not get the message across.I relied on my AP Physics knowledge.I did not pay attention in class (except for daily TopHat quizzes).PRACTICE THE HOMEWORK FOR THE EXAMS! It's mostly copy + paste. Easy B Hard A
Professor The is an amazing professor. He is not from the United States, but overall, he is very good at what he does, physics. Professor The is always willing to help his students including the hour right before the final exam, which many professors refuse. Once you get use to The's accent, everything becomes more clear. Amazing class.
very large class size and kinda hard to understand his accent. You can tell he really knows what hes talking about but not really the best teacher. If not for the iclicker questions I wouldn't have went to class. Exams are super easy and really curved just work through past ones a few days before.
Prof The is clearly super smart, but if you haven't taken physics or calc before be careful taking his class. Your other options aren't good either, so if you are in his class just make sure you are doing your own work outside of class too in order to stay on top of what you're learning. The tests are easy, but you'll need this content later.
Dr. The is hard to understand at first, but you get used to his accent. He very heavily teaches examples, not so much concepts. Isn't the best at explaining if someone has questions, but he does his best. Homework is more difficult than not. Daily quizzes, bi-weekly(ish) homework.
Physics 1220 is a very difficult class if you have no background in physics, and The did not make it easy to understand. He is sweet and clearly very smart and passionate about physics, however, his lectures were always overly complicated and hard to understand. It is a fairly easy class to get a B in because exams are heavily curved.
Dr. The knows what he's doing, which might be where his snarky remarks come from when we don't get the hang of things so quickly. His iClicker questions are graded for ACCURACY and he does on average 4-6 per class period. His homework is used through ExpertTA and comes with few questions in a lot of parts. Wouldn't recommend.
prof the is a horrible teacher but is the best phys 1220 class. hw is long and hard and hes really no help in or after class. almost all the questions are online so invest in a website and understand how they work through problems. do the practice exams. read the textbook if you have time. can get an A pretty easily if you work really hard
Professor The is one of the best professors I've had at Clemson. It is difficult to understand his accent in the very beginning, but if you continue trying to pay attention you will begin to understand him. By the end of the semester, I could understand 99% of everything he said. One of the best physics professors!
If your trying to take Lih-sin The's class I would suggest searching for a different professor. Prof. The goes over very specific question during lectures to explain atopic but doesn't explain how to do the HW or test question. He uses TopHat for a lot of questions during lectures and doesn't take days after test off. Wouldn't recommend this teach.
Dr. The is an adorable man, but omg I understood literally nothing that came out of his mouth. It wasn't even about the accent, he just explains things in the most confusing way possible. He made sig figs confusing. He was very excited about demonstrations which is cute.
He has a heavy accent that makes it hard to understand, but he honestly is a really sweet guy who is obviously passionate about physics and I felt like he did a lot to prepare students for exams as long as you are willing to put some effort in. Every class is a straight lecture with live questions that are graded so be aware of that.
Dr The is a physics genius but can not communicate the concepts well. His English is fine but I would not have understood anything if I didn't take AP physics 1, which is exactly like PHYS1220. HW is long and difficult, I recommend sharing a chegg account with a friend. Tells students "You have to be smart" instead of explaining the questions
Not the worst, not the best. Daily 'quiz' grades through class questions. Can be difficult to follow, but still very knowledgeable. Invest in a Chegg account for homework. Tests are curved, multiple-choice, and mostly based on homework questions. Recommend practicing with the previous tests. Drops lowest grades. Tough A, B is manageable if you try.
I took this class over the summer somehow I got an A, but the lectures from him are pretty awful, I stopped watching them half way through. And honestly went to office hours once and he literally told me how do you not understand, you need to start learning overall pretty awful but my biggest advice is to invest in chegg, it will save u
The most DISRESPECTFUL teacher at Clemson. If you go to get help be prepared to be called borderline an idiot. He does not care if you learn the material & is rude during class to students. He has contradictions in his syllabus when it comes to dropping your lowest exam score and will not take responsibility for his own mistake... DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I really wanted to like Dr. The has my sister took his class when she was at school. Unfortunately, if you don't have any physics experience prior to the course, you will not do well. In-class examples are not clear and not completed before moving on. Very fast-paced and talks down to you if you ask questions in class (especially to clarify).
I had some physics background and was great at calc so I did fine. The homework and the previous tests (he just changes numbers) are your friends here, but a Chegg subscription is your best friend. Can't understand anything he says, which can be funny at times. You HAVE to clap and go insane during the demonstrations or you fail. iClicker annoying
He did not do too well at the beginning of the semester but ended up picking his slack towards the end. Wish it could've been earlier but, I'll take it. The subject is hard as it is and he does not tie the book and his notes that well. The practice exams were nice as most of the time reflected in the exams.
Heeeeee has good in-class examples of what we are learning. Test are really nothing but homework so KNOW how to do ALL of the homework. If you have taken physics in highschool then you're a lot better off. I never took physics and had to teach myself everything from the beginning. I took 2 hours of notes every day before class. Good. Luck.
His lecture method is really hard to learn from compared to other courses.
Dr. The (Tay) is an OK prof. You have to read and take notes on the book before class to do well, he says this a lot and lectures assuming you have seen concepts before. Very thick accent but can get his point across. Demonstrations are amazing. Clap for them, he loves it. Exams aren't bad if you can do the hw. There are better prof out there.
Dr. The is not the best, but your best option for PHYS. Lecture can be hard to follow/a mess. Easier to understand if you took AP Phys. Says you need to read textbook for iClicker quizzes, but the ?s are in the PPTs he posts. Exams are similar to HW, so try to actually understand the HW. Has demos every class, clap for him; it makes him happy!
Dr. The is an excellent teacher. He has a strong accent but once you get past that his style of lecture and demonstration is super effective. Watch out for the iClicker quizzes, they can catch you off guard if you didn't read the textbook. Homework is one a week and took probably 2ish hours each. Clap for his demonstrations, he loves it.
The only reason Dr. The doesn't get a rating of 5 is because his lectures can be hard to follow due to a heavy accent, vague slides, and messy handwriting. If you focus you can likely keep up, though. Iclicker quizzes each class, but you get the slides with the q's ahead of time. The exam grades seem scary at first, but partial cred adds a lot
Dr. The is a very wholesome man and gets so excited during the demonstrations. The exams come straight from the hw and old exams, but they're still crazy hard. My saving grace was the partial credit - aka good guessing. I HATE iclicker and he uses location on it so if you're sick you can't get those points. Also, a mask + his accent is a tough deal
This class was very hard but its physics so...
If you want to learn to properly pronounce "yah" take his class.
Dr. The is the absolute WORST professor I have EVER had in my life. He overcomplicates everything and doesn't explain anything. There are no study or help sessions for his class and absolutely zero feedback on work. He cannot and will not explain when you ask him questions. Dialect and handwriting are nearly impossible to decipher. 0/5 if possible.
It felt like I had to teach myself physics a lot of the time, but I already had a background in physics so this didn't bother me. The homework assignments take hours, and his homework sessions aren't helpful. It feels degrading to go to them, because he makes fun of you for not knowing the answer to a question he thinks is easy.
Dr. The is OK. There is not much choice here but just be aware that you need to teach yourself how to do alot of the material. His demonstrations are cool and can be helpful but his classes and lectures do not prepare you for exams or the HW, you need to teach yourself. He is not always clear and does not answer questions fully when asked.
Professor The is honestly a decent teacher. He can sometimes not cover everything that appears on the homework due to time constraints, but the questions are usually easy to figure out using his lecture notes. This is a hard class, so don't expect an easy A, but it is very achievable.
Oh sweet sweet Lih... how I dream about being in Daniel 100B. Lih Sin The was the best professor I will have in my dear time at Clemson. His accent brings to life the problems, his demonstrations excite the class, and his teaching inspires. Also it's "Lee sin tay". Get it right, he deserves respect. Anyone who gives him a 1 is a chump!
He is not that hard in lecture. I went to him for homework that had math that we didn't cover in class and I worked it out with him. Still got a 20/50, and he had to check the answers in order to teach me correctly. He clearly assigns homework he doesn't know how to do.
I feel like I have to teach myself most of the time. He goes over slides, but the assignments never corresponded with the notes. He doesn't help in office hours and gives grades that aren't correct. 10/10 don't recommend him as a professor.
Professor The just reads off the slides and skips slides so you miss a lot of the information in class. The homework does not relate to what is happening in class and the grading is always off. Office hours are unhelpful and he gets upset when you do not know what is happening.
Professor The understands the material he is teaching very well but has a hard time conveying it to his students. He has in-class quizzes every lecture and calls his students "sleepers" when they get the answer wrong. He has the same demeaning attitude if you ask for help during office hours. His bank of practice exams makes the exams easy though.
Took Dr. The's class in Fall of 2022. Great professor! Very willing to help and is accessible. He drops grades at the end of the semester and gives partial credit on the exams. Can sometimes be difficult to understand, but is willing to clarify upon request.
Although he cares very much about his students, his lectures are very hard to understand. He explains every problem and is constantly checking his email. The exams are average and are proctored online. The homework is very time consuming and strict. He seems to be trying to find his teaching style. For now, there are better physics professors.
Very good teacher. Gives an entire review slideshow to help review for test. all material is on this slideshow. study the 117 slides and u pass every exam. Need to know everything in your sleep. "WAKE UP
Dr. The's class is okay. Attendance is mandatory, but his lectures were kind of boring to me. He can be surprisingly mean during lecture and will call people out for getting questions wrong, being on their phones, or having their heads down. However if you do lots of practice exams you'll be fine on the exam.
I have never had a teacher tell me that I am "sleeping" before until The. After our class did poorly on Exam 2, he yelled at us for missing questions and proceeded to yell and not explain how to do the missed problems. He is distracting. He coughs into the mic constantly and sounds like a Toro lawnmower.
I personally like this professor and learned to get along with him. This being said, his lectures are difficult to follow. He knows his material, but he very much struggles to simplify it and explain it to others. Unfortunately, he also has a tendency to get frustrated if you don't understand. A wonderful researching professor, but not a teacher.
Really bad professor. He circles things on his powerpoints, repeating 'This is very simple, yah you should know this.' His lectures are not helpful in completing the homework or studying for the exams. Felt like a waste of time and you have to show up for the quizzes every class.
Professor The is below average. Definitely watch the old videos that he has and attend his office hours, he is caring and nice, there are also TA hours. He has plenty of old exams and he emails which ones to go over. His lectures have very few practice problems and are more about concepts, which is not that effective. You have to teach yourself.
ADHD nightmare. Not only is he the most boring man on the planet, but attendance is counted by tophat questions randomly throughout the lecture. This is good in principle, but listening to him say "yeah, like so... yeah so yeah" *and more* between every sentence is sorta torture. If you can get ANY other lecturer, do it.
Yeah... right... so... yeah.
Dr. The does not help his students learn. Getting a good grade in this class requires an insane amount of work. His explanations do not make sense at all because he skips steps, assuming you know what is happening. Unfortunately you pretty much have to take his section and it sucks
Dr. The knows his subject extremely well, but exams are graded with no work submitted and partial credit is awarded solely based on answer choices on only multiple choice questions; they are entirely multiple choice and it's completely unfair to not consider a student's work on a physics exam. He is charismatic, but unforgiving to any mistakes.
People who complain don't read the lecture notes. He ight.
If you can get over the accent and mannerisms and lots of ums and yeahs, he's a fine professor. Just listen to what he says review what he tells you to and focus on the homework. The exams are 15 questions multiple choice with partial credit given depending on the answer. All the previous exams are available just study those and you'll do fine.
Sometimes he makes jokes towards the class, one of our favorites was "are you sleeping" when a large amount of people would get an iclicker question wrong. We made it a thing to give him standing novations at the end of his demonstrations. The demonstrations made the class fun and interactive.
The other people who complain about this teacher are completely wrong. He is a funny teacher and if you clap at his demonstrations you will make his day. The tests are the main percentage of the grade but if you get the tophat questions right and do the practice tests you will get an A on the tests (most of the questions are direct from there)
He mad funny
It took me a while to get used to his lecturing style. It's pretty unorganized compared to most professors, but it is possible to get used to, and he does know what he's talking about. Also, the canvas page is extremely helpful, especially the "files" section. Do as many old exams as possible and don't give up early on and you'll be fine.
Expects you to read 90% of the lecture materical outside of class. He expects the class to know everything before he even goes over with us, and says things like "This easy! You should know this!". You also have to use this stupid app called tophat, here you get 15 seconds to answer a problem, and you do this multiple times every lecture.
DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF. This class is very difficult and The doesnt make it any easier. He uses slides straight from the textbook, and he skips around so you never know where he is. He expects you to read the unit BEFORE class, and you wont understand the material if you dont. The homework is AWFUL and takes hours. If you gotta take him.. good luck
I wish I could create an account for myself on here because I taught myself more than The did. I went to every class and would dissociate because the man couldn't even follow the book slideshows. He is not helpful outside of class either, so be prepared to double as a student and as a professor whenever you take his class.
I'm sure Dr. The knows a lot about physics, but he is has no clue how to teach it. His lectures have no organization, and he makes the material far more confusing than it needs to be. I'd say the lectures are a waste of time, but they are attendance mandatory and have graded quizzes. Get comfortable teaching yourself
I don't know this! I couldn't reproduce the problem in my sleep!
Dr. The is not the best lecturer. I attended his lectures, but it's hard to understand him, and he goes pretty fast. He doesn't make sense sometimes and expects us to know after he explains it. Attendance is mandatory because you have to do the Tophats, but you can do them from home. If you take his class, get ready to teach yourself.
honestly idk what to say cause physics is already hard as is. attendance is graded and there is weekly homework that is super long and crazy difficult!!!! like it will be 16 questions but there will be questions that are like parts a-f :). but the exam questions are easier than the hw. also he wants u to read the lecture before class :)
Physics is a hard subject to me and I had to put a lot of work in for this class. Make sure to read lectures beforehand and watch videos before the exams. He goes very fast, but his lecture notes have all the material you need. HW is very long though!!
Will spend more time saying your stupid than actually teaching dont take him
Dr.The expecting a wealth of pre-knowledge before the lesson and confusing lectures cause most skip class in person or mentally. Secondly the lesson does not relate to the time hungry homework which does not relate to the test except for the review lesson before exams(study advice). Lastly there is rampant cheating of peers due to online exams.
Classes are usually 50 minutes long. Only so much can get covered during that time and he does his best and you can tell!
Don't even need to pay attention, just sit behind some people and ask them for the answers to TopHat. For exams just do a practice exam and whatever is on that will prolly be the questions on the actual exam.
Professor The's lectures can be confusing, so be prepared to teach yourself. Use resources like unstuck study and the textbook to stay on top of the challenging homework. Attend class, as participation is a must.
When repurposing test questions for the final exam, he failed to update the numbers inside the answer choices, instead only updating the question numbers. He chooses to use technology for his class yet is utterly incompetent with it. Mildly interesting demonstrations, but the rest of the lecture felt like utter drivel, less engaging than the book.
Demonstrations are fun, He is very hard to understand, as well as his notes. However his HWs are an easy A and his exams have insane curves built in. This class is not a difficult A, but it is a tough subject. Easy class, he post all old exams with answers, but lectures are kind of useless. Fun guy though, always clap after demonstrations
The lectures don't really help, but you have to go to get credit for TopHat. The exams are multiple choice online through lockdown browser, and he gives a big curve. He is a nice guy, but you need to be able to teach yourself to do well. He posts old exams, so use them to study!
Dr. The was one of the worst professors I have ever had. Do not be fooled by the grade distribution for the class, he curved every exam by at least 20 points. I went out of every test praying that he curved it. BEWARE. Do your homework and that will greatly increase your chances of getting an A or a B.
Prof. The is nearly impossible to understand during the lectures. He is clearly a smart individual, but that doesn't always equal a good prof. He teaches very fast while circling his points on the slides and doing examples on the same slide, resulting in a mess. During a lecture he will give you 30sec to do a TopHat question that counts as a quiz.
The homework will take you hours so be prepared to set aside time for that. I love the teacher, but you will have to teach yourself some of the material. You do have to show up for class because there are in class questions that are a good part of your final grade in the class. But overall I would take again.
Dr The is a smart man, but a very difficult professor to follow. His lecture notes are all over the place, and he covers concepts fast. Do the homework's/practice exams, you should be fine, but I would also recommend using CramBetter, its a tutoring service and the guy explains the concepts in a more understandable way, it's what helped me pass.
Dr. The is a smart man, but I do not think he does a great job teaching the material. He expects you to know exactly what is going on at all times, but physics is very hard to follow. If you attend his lectures and pay full attention, you will get something out of them, but I don't feel like it is ever enough to succeed on his very hard exams.
I literally had to drop physics because of this class. I couldn't understand a word he was saying and there was so so much homework. If this was the only class you were taking it would be fine. I literally changed my major because I could not get thrpough physics with him as a professor.
Not only is Professor Lih-Sin The hard to understand, he is also often rude to students in class when they answer questions incorrectly. He gives students no time to think and answer questions in class. If you have not taken an AP physics class before, you will have no idea what is happening in his class. He stressed me out so bad I had to drop.
Bad at answering questions
This instructor is the best professor/instructor at Clemson University, a must take for any Clemson Student. The class is not very difficult with the homework being the hardest element of the class. The exams were multiple choice with lockdown browser. The lectures are great and the instructor has a sigma aura.
"OKAY, YEAH, SOOOOO." "You're friend in the front know this one." These are the most common phrases you'll hear on repeat in class about a couple dozen times a day. This might be the worst professor I've had so far at Clemson. The only reason you should be taking Lih-Sin The is if he's the only professor left to choose from.
Grossly overcomplicates everything, my high school AP Physics teacher taught most of the same content much better than he does. If you have no prior knowledge of physics you will end up teaching yourself. Lots of homework and very difficult exams.
Li-Sin The is the worst professor I have ever had, and does not speak English well. Most of what he says you won't understand, so you might as well listen to music and watch what he lectures on. Not to mention the homework is terrible. I only did okay in this class because of previous AP classes. I would never recommend him as a professor.
He does not explain the content well but the content is super easy. The textbook provides plenty of practice problems. If you struggle with him this rating is your sign to drop out of engineering before you fail out of engineering.
Hes a good guy, just a bad physics teacher, show up to class and really try and youll be fine
Physics itself is a difficult class, but if you pay attention in class, do the top hats, and study the previous exams, the exams shouldn't be too difficult. Dr. The was very kind and accessible outside of class. It is hard to teach such a large class, but he made sure to show demonstrations to keep the class entertained.
STUDY THE HOMEWORK, NOT HIS LECTURES. The class itself really isn't difficult, but the way he explains everything is so confusing. He also indirectly insults students who don't get tophat or exam questions right, and it's really not that bad, though, be ready to hear "if you don't know this, then you must be asleep" several times a lecture.
Dr. Thé is super smart... unfortunately, that does not translate to good teaching. While this might be the fault of the department, Thé rushes/explains unclearly many concepts, and the slideshows are difficult to understand. I'd recommend learning online instead using the learning outcomes from the syllabus. Wouldn't recommend.
Thought he was bad until he rounded my grade up to an A. What a guy
Dr. The honestly was not a bad professor. I think its hard to learn in the huge lecture style he teaches, the content could be organized in a better way, and the homework could be more of what we do in class instead of really difficult problems but it overall was manageable. He gives every old exam in the files.
He's clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about physics but he does not make a good teacher. He has very little patience for students and he tended to get very frustrated when people wouldn't learn from his lecture style. Very unprofessional and didn't teach the material well. I would advise anyone taking physics to try to get another teacher.
Way too much homework. He did a good job having availability outside of class to help, but it was still way too much. Crushed my spirit early on in college
Lih-Sin The is not the best professor, he talks off PowerPoint slides the entire class. It can be hard to understand him sometimes. The subject was hard, but exams are multiple choice. Overall, I would not recommend, but not the worst class in the world.
Worst professor I've ever had at the University.
Look, the content isn't hard if you took AP Physics or learn it on your own. However, you will not learn it from Lin-Sin The. You have daily pop quizzes, which aren't super difficult, but they glitch sometimes, and then ur j SOL. The tests are super light, 15 MCQ in an hour, just do the old exams. If you don't HAVE to take this class, don't.
Hard class but if you have any experience before its not too bad. Tests are worth a lot of your grade but you can prep well and get a good grade pretty easily. The curve he puts on each one is always very generous as well. He is a very passionate guy, and his demonstrations are awesome. He is hard to understand sometimes but thats just life.
Prof. The is not a good professor. This class was my first real exposure to Physics, and it is next to impossible to learn from him. He is not good at explaining concepts, and I had to teach myself pretty much the entire class from scratch. Exams are multiple choice, and there are daily quizzes. You can miss about 8 or 9 classes and get a B.
Lecture is useless, Cant understand him and when you try you dont learn much. Exams are 15 questions and multiple choice. Very easy to make little mistakes but curve hard because everyone is doing poorly. Do the homework but only actually study previous years test questions. Hard to connect with a teacher in a 250 person lecture hall.
The is not a great professor as he brushes over topics in class and tells you to practice on your own. I had no prior knowledge of physics, so this class was very difficult for me, as I had to teach myself everything from scratch. Lowest exam score is not replaced by the final, so not a lot of room for error.
Genuinely the worst professor I have ever had, he denied me my accommodations halfway through the semester. He jumps around his notes and disregards some and adds some with no warning. He insults you when you do things wrong. My first physics class ever and my first and only so far C. Beware.
This class could not be worse. The lectures are so jumbled, and I did not understand a single one. I normally am an "A" Student, so this class hurt. Dr. The is super sweet though, and he is available outside of class.
I had the absolute displeasure of suffering through his jumbled, barely-understandable lectures with mandatory tophat quizzes each class for a horrific semester. The problems he emphasized in class were misleading and unhelpful when it was time for the exam. Sad to say I lost my 4.0 to this class and learned absolutely nothing about physics.
