talks too fast, and doesnt know what parallel lines are.
Very condescending. Lectures without taking in consideration that writing takes longer than speaking. Overwhelming amount of information to grasp in lecture hence hampering clarity.
3 words: boring, unclear, monotonous
The accent and use of words like "idee-er" insead of "idea" drive me bonkers, all "complemented" by a vocal tone sounding like a woman version of Ben Stein. My T.A. would do a much better job teaching this course. All things considered, however, she is knowledgable and organized.
I found her difficult to understand at the beginning of the year, but I've gotten used to it and actually find her lectures interesting and informative now. She is very knowledgable and I enjoy the material.
you have to get used to her teaching style. overall, very smart and she did a better job at explaining the eco stuff than my eco textbook.

quite an articulate and engaging professor. the type that tries to use examples that can relate to the student body (although silly most times). overall, an easy course, although not posting the slides made things a bit more difficult.
She does have an accent, but other than that her lectures are good, especially for exams and essays, and she showed a good load of movies and things like that, which was fun. her essays were easy and her Exams pretty predictable. shes also pretty funny, but i dont know if she means to be funny or not becuse she doesnt smile/ laugh when she make jks
I think her accent's been commented on already, so I'll keep it brief. It's extremely annoying... actually it's not just her accent, but generally the way she talks... Other than that, she's a great lecturer who is really clear and easy to understand.
Prof Gilady is so bright and creative, but I also did not feel intimidated by her. Her style is quirky, but I like it. This is my best class so far.
Professor Gilady was very interesting, and the course material was challenging enough to maintain students' interest.
I had no interest in IR before this class but she makes it worth attending. I would recommend any class taught by her.
good teacher
An excellent professor. She presented the material in an interesting manner. Bravo.
A great prof with an interesting world view, although somewhat intimidating to approach. If you end up attending the majority of the classes you can learn a great deal from her. The multi-media she presents is great, and reveals a weird sense of humor...make sure to turn off your cell phone!
Very knowledgeable professor who tries to raise interest in IR. I'd say the tutorials and readings are the most important to achieving a good mark. The final exam is heavily weighted towards knowing the readings in-depth.
Lectures were great. Gilady can seem intimidating with a cynical sense of humour but she's worth learning from.
Good Lecturer but the grading scheme was absolutely ridiculous. Did anyone get an A? Probably has more to do with my TA at the time.
worst professor i have ever had
She is the best teacher to introduce IR, but the highest grade you can hope for is a B+ since she reserves A for the exceptional student with true dedication for the subject. All things said, she's great, but if you feel she grades too harshly, try talking to her. Her classes are entertaining, informative and transformative. Don't miss a single one
Considering the content of the course, I think she is very good for that. She dedicated enought time to ensure that everyone got what she was talking about and was not afraid to go over it again if need be. Recommended!
Extremely knowledgeable! I'm her biggest fan!
Prof. Gilady is really knowledgeable and I found the lectures to be easy to follow. The final exam is fair and she won't attempt to trick you, but make sure to do all the readings, as any article could be fair game (though there is choice when it comes to final exam questions). In my case (2006/2007 term), TAs were responsible for all the grading.
great prof for introducing the theoretical foundations of international relations. integrates video clips into lectures and ensures that lectures are enjoyable. unfortunately had to leave halfway through the summer session for unforseen circumstances. readings are a crcuial element
Great prof. Extremely intelligent and engaging. She gives some of the best answers to students questions that I've heard from a prof. Relatively unbiased compared to other profs I've had in POL/SOC.
Can be entertaining at times, and explains concepts clearly. Readings are crucial and the exam is mostly based on them.
I am not particularly interested in the subject, and this class can definitely be a real bore at times. not recommended unless you have to do it or you love it
Can be very monotone and unclear due to her thick accent - she speaks very fast, so try to keep up. Does not post lecture slides online & doesn't allow lectures to be recorded. I would not recommend this class to anyone who does not need it.
Hard to follow, boring, rude, disorganized lecture slides, not an engaging lecturer
the worst professor I've ever had. She is rude, and poorly organized. it is unfortunate because i was really looking forward to this course.
Very good lecturer who explains all concepts thoroughly. You'll learn a lot in this class.
Awesome prof! Great use of media in class. The assignments are clear and straightforward. The midterms were alright. The majority of the class got confused on the essay question. TAs are fair.
Readings are crucial for success. She's extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter, and you WILL learn alot about IR. Will take consistent effort to pull off good grades though but as a prof, I highly recommend her.
She's funny, but generally too bad-mooded to make the class a joy. Overly cynical. The class itself is interesting, but the lectures are not that important, the readings are what matter. Also watch out what TA you get, they tend to switch half way through the semester and can be very harsh.
Good style, engaging, interesting - a little fast and heavy on content but overall good.
The class was very interesting, and the professor gave a lot of examples. The readings were very long. The final exam grades were higher then expected, but the Quizes throughout the year were more difficult then expected. Each quiz seemed to be about random information. Doing the readings is most important because a lot draws from them.
The course was super, but I can't imagine a worse professor to take it with. Arbitrary marks, little-to-no helpful feedback and utterly inflexible on grades. One of the best classes I took, because of the curriculum and the students, but a horrible teacher
Honestly, I felt that Gilady did an excellent, if not the best, job at adapting to the online platform. Her lectures were entertaining and informative plus the syllabus is on a cute website that's easy to navigate. She does async and sync (optional) lectures as well as individual office hours. She seems really passionate in what she does!
Professor Gilady is LOVELY!! I took her class during COVID. She put so much effort into her lectures, included funny clips, high quality editing, etc. She often assigns movies or tv shows instead of readings. Super well organized course.
Her lectures were VERY interesting, filled with relevant examples, movie clips, some jokes, and good music (her editing is fab). The course had very clear grading criteria, however, your grade depends entirely on your TA.
Taking POL107 online with Prof Gilady was a pleasure. Accessible prof (go to office hours!), interesting lectures, and reasonable assignments. My only complaint is that lectures were quite long (2 hrs of videos/week, admittedly watched on 1.5x or 2x speed) and sometimes not entirely relevant or helpful to the essays that make up most of the grade.
You don't need 100% of the readings for TUTS but know what they cover cuz you'll need them as sources for the essay. Remember examples the prof mentions (wars, operations ) to use them as examples in discussion posts and essays. Always make connections with course concepts in everything you write to get the best mark. So make sure to note them.
An Awesome professor, with a good sense of humour and great lectures. My favourite part! her dog lola
I took this class as a life sciences student, and I ended up loving it. She put so much effort into the lectures, and was also really approachable and considerate. The content was interesting, and she engaged different topics. Watching her videos didnt feel like a chore, and more like something youd do for fun. Would totally recommend.
The course I had involved a lot of interactions with T.A.s and not so much directly with Gilady (hence I can't for certain give her a 5/5). Her lectures however were phenomenal. Very active and interesting. There is a lot of reading, but the readings were not always needed in order to do well, so pick your battles wisely.
I don't know why people like her lectures. They're longer than normal lectures (3-4 hours long) when usually its around 2 hours. The lectures are like poorly made youtube video with distracting green screens and random video clips that break the lectures flow + just makes it longer. I'm a social science, and still the readings are too long and dul
Overall the course assignments weren't terribly difficult (if you did the readings and watched the lectures), but the lectures were very long and often more boring than not. Professor Gilady seems nice but I never got the chance to meet her since it was online. The TA does most of the work, so as long as you have a good TA, the class should be fun.
I did learn some interesting concepts in this course but overall didn't love it. The pre-recorded lectures are unnecessarily long (2.5-3 hours/week), they really don't need to be. You don't get any feedback on how you're doing until after the first test (around the beginning of November in the fall). Also, grading criteria is all over the place.
This course was online, so the only time I saw Prof Gilady was through her long and incredibly boring 2-3 lectures. The lectures were prerecorded on a green screen with mediocre editing and long, sometimes odd clips in the lectures. The readings were also massive for a first year course. Unpredictable marking scheme which depends entirely on the TA
Although the course was content-heavy, the lectures by prof. Gilady were amazing: they were funny, well-explained, and provided many real-life case studies. The final grade was graded by many things, so there were many opportunities to redeem if you mess one thing up. The readings were very heavy. but interesting. Highly recommended!
This class was way harder than any of my other POL classes. Class average of 70 and was heavily maintained, basically impossible to get above an 80. There was a lot of reading and the material was lecture-heavy. Marks are often given back very delayed ( got back 80% of the mark last week of school) so you don't really know how you're doing.
Its become a fact that the professor and TAs are trying to keep a certain low average. The TA fail to give legitimate reason for giving a low mark. For me, all my other courses are 4.0 and top marks in classes but in this class I did not get treated fairly and get a mark that I deserve.
This professor wants you to give back what she gives you. Too particular in requirements and expectations. Over self-indulgent. Heavy reading load.
Prof Gilady made really interesting and fun lectures. I thought the course was well made and useful. Would highly recommend.
I can see what some of these comments are saying, I find the lectures fun, way better than a boring monotone voice in the background. Some people may find it too much but it kept me engaged through online school. However, you do have to pay attention and get a good TA. My advice: take lecture timestamps in your notes on concepts and revisit them.
POL107H1 is an interesting class, and the subject matter is good, but beware of all the readings. You should watch all of the lectures, but pick and choose readings. Just make sure you understand enough to contribute to tutorials, and to write discussion posts. The assignments don't have rubrics, which is annoying, and you will be marked hard.
Best professor I have had so far, and the course was incredibly interesting. Have to watch the lectures but don't have to do all the readings. Actually, I would actively discourage you from doing the readings, as they are usually incredibly long and a lot of the time useless.
Majority finds the marks receive in this course to be much lower than marks received from other courses.
Concerns were unheard and were ignored by the professor. People who gets 4.0s in other courses wont get it here. Disappointing class.
There was more content in her class than in several of my other classes combined. Multiple readings every week amounting to 50-100 pages on top of three hour lectures and constant, tedious assignments. She edits her lecture videos terribly, and her syllabus website (who does that?) is a genuine nightmare to navigate. Entertaining lecturer, though.
Whether enjoy her lectures or not really depends on your interest. It was lengthy but inspirational. And you have to go through them for the take-home test. Anyways, Jose was my TA and he was generous in grading.
Prof's lectures were the most tedious and lengthy lectures. They became extremely narrative and filled with unnecessary details which was a waste of time. Essay prompts were difficult, confusing, and no clear expectations were set so TA marking was inconsistent. While the content itself was interesting and my TA saved us, would not take again.
Professor Lilach Gilady is a passionate instructor. Her passion is evident through her animated lectures (where she even uses green screen)! One downfall in my POV is that the lectures are very long. I feel like she could have condensed her lectures, but other than that, she is an amazing professor who truly cares for her students.
She tries her best to keep the class engaging but the lectures can be too content heavy at times. The Head TA Gamal is a gem though. Very easy course, try to get easy marks from the podcast, discussion board and tutorial participation and you'll be fine.
Professor Gilady makes course material a really attractive blend of dense political concepts, concrete examples, and personal witticisms. I personally loved how the grade was deconstructed with different non-paper evaluations that really allowed me to expand my abilities and try random stuff. Take this class.
Lectures are long and miserable. Hard to follow and even harder to understand. Easy marks, but would absolutely never take a class with her again.
two words: sloppy zionist
"You will fail this course if you don't attend lectures", Gilady is very hard to understand and never answered my emails. Course was very confusing with the tutorials and took a whole month and a half to get our grades back for an essay. I would have never taken this class if it wasn't a prerequisite.
She's the least organized professor ever.
She DOES NOT post slides, lectures, or anything besides the reading material. Lectures are so long and readings are hard/long/confusing/OLD. Very sassy/snappy and gives those "nice mean girl" vibes. If you can get away without taking this class, DON'T TAKE IT. Also expects us to watch shows not accessible without paid subscriptions.
Lecture heavy and does not post slides. Odd exam format as well.
don't take this class if you love yourself
she doesn't post her lectures and also did not start tutorials until a week before the midterm essay due 25%. it also took the ta's OVER A MONTH to grade the essays. her lectures are literally talking in circles and half your brainpower is deciphering her accent and half is trying to understand what is going on.
I'm not entirely sure why professor Gilady has such a poor rating. Yes, this class is hard, it is not a bird course by any means, you will have to put in decent effort. Yet, it has been my favourite and most insightful course. Tips to doing well: attend all lectures and tutorials and write notes in an organized manner.
Please listen to the bad reviews and avoid this prof!!! She's rude for no reason and acts like the world is ending every time someone walks in the lecture room and tries to find a seat. Her lectures are extremely boring and completely disorganized. I got a 95% on the essay (midterm) but it took the TAs well over a month to mark it.
Gilady is so ridiculously unorganized, even the TAs admit to the fact. Instead of providing students with a rubric for an essay worth 25%, she determines expectations by using "benchmarking" WHICH ISN'T REVEALED TO THE STUDENTS. LIKE WHAT?! That's only the tip of the iceberg. God save yourself.
While it's true that we started tutorials later and had unclear grading criteria for the midterm, if you put in some effort you will be fine. I completely missed the mark on the essay and still got a B. Her lectures are super engaging, she puts a lot of effort into them (which lots of profs wouldn't do), and she seems to care about her students.
One of the most unorganized courses I have ever taken at UofT. Tutorials started about 4-5 weeks into the term, and her lectures are just horrible as the slides are just basically pictures.
Prof. Gilady didn't post slides from the course, was very easily distracted, and wasn't engaging because she wasn't engaged in the course material. She often would deviate from class structure to discuss other topics. She was funny and sassy so I will give her props. Her final is ridiculously hard and you are given direction as to what to expect.
The key word with this professor is disorganized. My TA has not marked anything other than my midterm, even though lectures are over. There is an extreme lack of consistency amongst TAs, as one will tell give you one set of guidelines and another an entirely different set. There is no standardization as the Prof does not post rubrics/guidelines.
Beware of Professor Gilady. Does not even do the bare minimum of posting slides. Some readings aren't even accessible. TAs seem generally disinterested in this course and give little insight into work. Professor is passionate about what she teaches but the course overall is poorly run. What kind of course doesn't have TAs for 3 weeks?
First of all, the class is pretty boring, but it shouldn't be! The content COULD be interesting, BUT, it ain't. The professor does not give any resources like recordings, slides, and you can't even access some of the readings, so... yeah! We also didn't have a TA for tutorials for like 3 weeks, so... Wouldn't take this class.
don't take this course as a birdy, only take it if you're genuinely interested in political science and then it will be tolerable. you'll have to write an essay, record a podcast, do all the readings and participate in tutorials, write message boards and do a final. the prof is disorganized and ta's are hella confused
Professor Gilady's ratings from other POL107 ppl here are pretty bad, but I completely disagree. Although she was disorganized and had a bit of a temper, I find her dedication to the subject so respectable. Yes, it was a bit of a difficult first year course, but if you actually studied for this course, you'd find the material really manageable.
dont expect to get any marks or feedback in this class anytime soon bc its just so disorganized. say a prayer when u submit ur work bc u aren't gonna find out the mark until you've been married 10 years with 3 kids and a dog.
Bro please, I beg you, release the marks. I've gotten all my marks from all my other F courses and it's 12 January and I've still got no marks past the midterm or any sort of updates on when those marks will be updated. No tutorial marks as well. Istg the wait for marks is longer than the construction on the Line 5 Eglinton transit line.
WHERE ARE OUR MARKS ??????? the new semester has already started why is it taking them so long to mark our work??? some of these things were handed in WEEKS AGO. ridiculous. this is a never-ending nightmare of a course.
It's Jan 16, where are our marks?! The class itself was mid but pretty easy, so don't be discouraged from taking it if you need to. But the disorganization and is beyond ridiculous now. Except for Siru, TAs were harsh and unprofessional. The day before the final, one bragged about having not started grading something that was due three weeks prior.
While it is crazy to not have our grades back yet (deadline was 12th), this class was still really interesting. The course content was really engaging, and the analytical methods were interesting. The tutorials were easy as long as you knew your stuff, and while the grading was pretty brutal for the first essay it was still a cool class.
Ugh this professor would yell and call people out when they came in late, one girl came to look for her water bottle and the prof pointed her out incfront of 500 students. It is literally January 27th and grades still have not been released. Tutorials started on like the 4th or 5th week. Class is very unorganized. Hated it.
Grades aren't out as of Jan 30, 2023. Only 1 paper has been graded, which was about 3 months ago. Prof doesnt seem to like the class, class def loathes the prof. you won't find out how you did in this class until 2080, when you're on your deathbed surrounded by loved ones. Course content was interesting but the delay in grades is unacceptable
The lack of transparency and organization in this course is appalling. Tutorials started almost 3/4 weeks late. Slides were NEVER posted and there was never any rubric for writing papers. Final grades have not been released for a month and the last day to change or enrol in courses has passed, leaving students with no option. She's also too rude!
Avoid this lady and her TA's at all costs
No grades 2 months after course ends. Terrible prof, doesn't answer emails and clearly the university is delusional to keep this person on roster. Nobody gets to fail this hard at their job and keep it. Can't select my major because of the incomplete grade, from a course I'm expecting an A.
(PART 4) DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSES THAT THIS PROFESSOR IS TEACHING AND MAKE SURE THAT IF YOUR MARK IS NOT WHAT YOU EXPECTED, EMAI THE DEAN. It's funny how this course is about identifying "WHAT WENT WRONG" but to be honest this professor's disorganization and disrespect is "WHAT WENT WRONG"
(PART 3) So to be sure that this insincere professor doesn't manipulate our marks due to any missing assignments that she probably lost or just not marked out of laziness and making up marks as she goes.
(PART 2) Also, as said in previous posts explaining that we only have had one mark graded since October, we should demand to see a full breakdown of each individual mark including our Podcast assignment (14%), Message board (16%), Tutorials (20%), and the Final worth 25%
(PART 1) It is February and our marks have still not been released, which is pathetic coming from such a prestigious university. With one and only one email ever sent to us around 3 weeks after the marks were due, they tried explaining that there was some sort of medical situation which is utter nonsense and an excuse to save themselves.
(1/?)This class could not have been more disappointing, which is a shame because the premise could have been very interesting. To start there's the obvious, which is that we got no marks aside from the midterm until two months after the grades were due. Even the midterm was released after the last drop date. This is completely unacceptable.
- The course content was interesting, relevant, and applicable - The course organization was terrible: tutorials started nearly halfway into the semester, grades were released 2 months late, un-streamlined team of TAs, lack of communication. - The lectures were sometimes longwinded/repetitive, but overall not difficult to follow along.
This professor & class was extremely unorganized from the very first day. we didn't have tutorial until after thanksgiving meaning we weren't able to discuss more about our midterm with our TA's. Prof "doesn't like rubrics" so the TA's will grade you however they feel like. The content was really interesting but the chaos ruined it. Unprofessional
There was no rubric and no guidelines for the essay we had to write; marking scheme was extremely ambiguous. There was no breakdown on the assignment marks we received ON FEBRUARY 6TH. Tutorial grades were marked horribly as people who actively participated and people who never spoke got the same marks. The final exam however was straight-forward.
Tutorials started halfway through term. No powerpoints were ever uploaded, and the lectures as a whole were useless if you did the readings. The professor "did not like rubrics" and hence marking was strange and inconsistent across tutorial sections. Some material was interesting but considering the grades came out in February... never again.
Prof Gilady is extremely intelligent, and although her humour (and distaste for latecomers) may not be for everyone, I found her very engaging. Still, she's not very accessible and didn't post clear rubrics. Nothing was graded on time (though this may not be entirely her fault). Overall, a disorganized class, but I enjoyed the content of it.
Her lectures are usually entertaining and somewhat captivating. The tutorials didn't start until halfway through the term, and the assignments/exams have very unclear grading criteria. She tends to ramble in her lectures making it very difficult to determine what is course content, and what is not.
Professor Gilady is smart and witty. I really enjoy her lectures. The course content is a little dispersed. Nevertheless I suspect that the purpose of the course is not really about the course content but about the development of the ability to think and analyze using some of the course concepts. Great class.
The Prof was subpar, but I've had worse professors. I found my TA very understanding and good at leading discussion, so it was worth taking the class. As for the lectures, I just put some quiet music on so I don't get distracted, and paid attention to the models! They're very important on the final exam.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. If you are considering taking this class, do not take it. Please for your own sake.
Absolutely painful lectures, so hard to follow or engage with. Prof has an inability to follow a train of thought - concept matter should be super interesting, but the delivery is bad. Tends to ramble a lot, would not recommend. Didn't start tutorials until halfway through the sem, which was no help. Graded by few things, with no clear guidelines.
Prof Gilady makes interesting course material seem dull and confusing. Lectures follow no structure and all the concepts blur together because of the way she teaches them. Once you teach yourself the concepts it's pretty easy to get a good mark. Communication was poor, didn't even have tutorials for the first half of the year, for no clear reason
Very interesting lectures. Teaches you concepts you can apply outside of the course and really become more politically aware. I would say that she doesn't rambl. She might just explain each concept with a bit more detail than what is on the slides. If you attend lectures and participate, expect a good mark! She cusses sometimes and its funny lol.
Not sure where all the hate is coming from. Lectures were solid although at times it was hard to distinguish between what is important and what isn't. Attendance is a must if you want to succeed, the professor goes in-depth. Rubrics don't exist however feedback is good from TA's. A general guideline is provided instead of a rubric. Overall solid.
Please do not take this class. Material is interesting but lectures are hard to follow and point is not always clear. Tutorials started halfway through the semester but are still 20% of the grade. Assignment details give almost no instruction and there is no rubric. My least favourite class in political science and I was looking forward to it.
Avoid.Course concepts are mostly useless and overly simplistic, yet she will spend hours explaining them. Tutorials worth 20%, yet don't start until November. She doesn't believe in rubrics. No grades are released until after course is over. TA's are fine but they also have no idea what is going on in this course and admit it. Painfully unorganized
Prof is awful. She is extremely unorganized and assigns boatloads of reading material. Additionally, she is EXTREMELY biased when teaching and gave us an assignment prompt that was very obviously biased towards a stance. Avoid her if you can.
Not sure why people are blasting this prof with so much hate. Lectures were very entertaining and she used hilarious and mindblowing real-life examples to explain different concepts. She teaches concepts that you can apply in real life. She had no biases whatsoever imo even when she talked about israel and palestine, despite her being israeli.
High quality very engaging and interesting lectures. The content was a great mix of history and politics and concepts were explained very well. Fairly disorganized and assignments have very limited instructions.
The most poorly organized class ever. To this day we don't know what our grade breakdown is. Lectures are so unorganized as well as Quercus. Assignments were such a waste of time. the prof is SO stingy with her office hours literally such a slap to the face. The content would be so much more interesting if it weren't coming from her.
Lectures were excellent and well-taught, but the course is disorganized, as we never received a final breakdown of our marks. There isn't much of a rubric, but as long as you are a good writer and go to office hours it's not too bad. Exam was fairly easy, having mostly long answer questions alongside some short answer and multiple choice.
One of the best profs I've had so far. AMAZING lectures, fascinating readings, and the claims of bias are false. The main complaints are things I found to be non-issues; even though there was no rubric or grade breakdown it was easy to do well and the exam was a total breeze. I respect her for discussing Oct. 7 tactfully even though she's Israeli.
The worst professor I have ever had
Get ready for the worst course syllabus you will ever see. It feels as though she is trying to make this course as inaccessible as possible for nothing. The most difficult part of this class is trying not to fall asleep. All you need is the course slides to do well in the class. Her lectures can be interesting, but it appears to be a rare occurance
lectures aren't mandatory, but not everything is written on the slides, therefore you might be lost if you do not attend lectures. she adds her personal thoughts and feelings to course projects and course content (Israel/Palestine conflict). the course material is interesting, but she kind of lost me during the lectures (kinda boring).
Boring and annoying.
so absolutely bad at organization. so so so so so bad at organization. i spend more time trying to piece information from all the readings together than actually learning anything. the readings are also always just bibliography entries and hard to find and access. just honestly such an unorganized course
Had a terrible TA, but Professor Gilady was awesome, her lectures are great, and the content was very interesting even for someone not particularly interested in polsci. quite a bit of reading, and relatively few assignments that are worth a lot.
Gilady is a great lecturer, I really enjoyed attending her classes. Outside of that very disorganized + lack of clear instructions. Exam went so/so for me, felt like some of the questions asked trivial things + not the theories/ concepts they emphasized so hard to us to study! TAs also seemed confused as to what Gilady wanted for assignments
Prof G is passionate and makes lectures interesting, but the class is disorganized. Difficult to keep up if you miss even one lecture. The slides don't have much info, the TA's are not even sure of expectations, and the concepts are difficult to extract from the readings independently. Not great overall
Lectures can be hit or miss, but the content is interesting. The course structure is disorganized, with no clear grading rubric. Utilize resources like unstuck AI alongside going to office hours to succeed.
Post slides but they're completely useless unless you attend lecture. The most organized, ridiculous class I've ever taken. Our exam wasn't scheduled during the allotted period- that being said no assignments were marked before our exam so you have no clue what your standing is going in. I have no idea why i only got a C+ i actually couldn't tell u
Gilady's lectures were informative and engaging. Everything else in the course was beyond subpar. Miss a lecture? No way to learn the content. Grading? Entirely subjective to the TAs with little guidelines. I have no idea how the TAs made it to grad school. Everyone I know in the class had serious TA or grading problems. Will kill your GPA.
The Professor was good, and the lectures were engaging. The only reason I may not suggest this class is the incredibly terrible TAs. No one I have talked to in this class has liked their TA. The way they grade varies tremendously, so if you get a bad TA, you'll get a bad grade. One TA even assigned random weekly essays to his students.
The prof was decent, content was interesting, but the lecture slides kinda sucked so if you miss a class it's hard to catch up. My TA was AWFUL and gave us random essays do to every week. There weren't clear guidelines or sometimes even a rubric for our assignments so it felt incredibly disorganized. No study guide for the final either. Truly mid.
nightmare. disorganized beyond comprehension. only 1 assignment grAded before final exam not held during the exam period. had a awful ta who made us do weekly essays on top of the course assignments in order to get participation worth 20%. final marks were posted late and they were wrong. harsh and unjustified grading by ta too.will ruin your gpa!
I truly do not understand the criticism of Professor Gilady. I took her class for the first time in my fourth year and was nervous after the RMP reviews. She is extremely knowledgable of the readings and topics that are discussed in class and facilitates a healthy learning environment in which all perspectives of an argument are considered.
Prof Gilady is a really good lecturer. The content is pretty simple but interesting. However the marking is really vague, there isn't a rubric and you don't get 75% of your mark until one month after the course ends which sucks cause you don't know if you should drop/no credit. If your majoring in political science you should take this course.
horrifying class. will murder your gpa. you don't get 70% of your mark until after the final grade is posted on Acorn. ta mauricio would mark so harshly and unfairly, asked prof for a regrade and she gave me an 17% increase for the midterm.wasnt able to regrade my other assignments cuz we didn't receive them until it was too late. disorganized!!!!!
She is a great lecturer mostly. Beware that grading is objective based on the TA as there are no rubrics or requirements for assignments.
I don't know why her rate is so low, but I took her International Security class and every time I was at class I enjoyed it. It is definitely not boring, also her grading is not harsh, rather generous compared to other political science courses. I hope she has other 300 level courses available. The only thing is she is not very tech savvy.
Actually one of the worst profs I've ever had. Good riddance!
Class was structured fairly, she was engaging and kind, and she did an excellent job encouraging discussion (which made up most of the class). However, we received basically no grades until the final mark was released and she was not always the easiest to reach by email.
I was worried about taking a course with Prof. Gilady because of her ratings, but honestly she's a great professor. Her lectures are super fun and engaging, and the content is really interesting. However, your TA makes or breaks your grade. As long as you keep up with readings and get a good TA, an A is totally doable.
The prof was inspirational, but the grading by TAs was not necessarily the best.
I found Prof. Gilady to be a very engaging lecturer. The class was interesting and I genuinely learned a lot. The assignments were very clear and rather simple but with lots of room to be creative.
