she made the class fun by encouraging class participation. students could get by on notes only. she gives noice of what will be on the test including the final
she tells you the tests - so you can study - shes nice
This is a great teacher. I really liked the fact that she teaches both sides of the story. She tells of Columbus discovering America, but she also tells about the disaster and bloodshed he brought on the natives. It's a great class. I recommend it.
She is a nice teacher. She also give us extra credit and way to improve you score if you are not doing well.
i hate this class and i regret taking this class the people rating her must of been teachers pet because this professor was horrible!
She looks hard at first. Her class is very boring, but she gives you take home test. she gives you clues out the fianl and let's you take and outline. good teacher but boring
Ms. Urrutia is very knowledgable of history. She gives quizes which are easy. One in-class essay she does allow outlines. One in-class presentation, easy. No homework. Easy to get an A. Highly recommend.
She is pretty good. She has an essay as final exam and she gives regular quizzes. EASY A! I RECOMMEND HER! She also assigns group quizzes.
she's good teacher! I've gotten C's on my quizzes, but in the end of the semester, I got an A as my overall grade. she gives extra credit to fix your grades. really helpful
Be honest. She knows well about history, but she doesn't know how to teach! Her class is boring. She is mean about student's grade.I hope people rating the professor should be honest, or this webside just helpless!!
She was very helpful and I enjoyed taking her classes. She may seem to be strict at first, but if you keep up with your reading and pay attention to her lectures, you won't have a problem. She gives you many tests but again, if you review your book and notes you'll be fine.
(CONTD)take home quizzes and allows to work with your partner during assessments (chose your partner wisely). She keeps you until the bitter end and sometimes later, gives plenty of extra credit, she seemed to be very kind and understanding attendance is important, because quizzes are practically everyday and if you miss any, she does not permit
Professor Urrutia is a good teacher. Her lectures are mostly power points, but she also explains everything clearly to you. If you don't understand something, she will explain it to you until you do. Her class was easy. You can fail her midterm and still pass the class with an A. I learned a lot in her class and still remember it! haha Take her cla
Ok, so I took her for summer...Omg she's such a hard grader and I might add I'm a pretty descent writer. I'm assuming that if you take her during a regular semester her class seems fairly easy but very difficult during summer...tons of reading.
Very nice and understanding teacher. She let me take my midterm on a different date after I had an accident, and she even gave me advice on how to cure my ailment. Her independent project is very hard, and very important. It's an interview on an older person than you, and it requires a lot of dedication. All in all, she's GREAT.
She is very passionate about hist & does a really good job of relating hist to current times. Her lectures consist of powerpoint but surprisingly are not boring. For the midterm & final she will give you you 2 or 3 possible essay questions which you must prepare before hand. The class is straight foward just put some effort in and she will pass you.
I love her!! she makes this class amazing. she made me look at history through my experience. you need to read the book go to class every meeting and pay attention. you'll be ok. easy if you try. i highly recommend her. =]
she always late and fix her computer in class a lot, ususlly use some reading materials not related to the book and we never opened our history book in her class.she waste our time and when the midterm came, she gave a lot of D and C-, and when the final came she required us to review almost the whole book which she never taught in class before.
she disrespect time. irresponsible
Great teacher if you want to learn! She isn't those that will cut slack on you if you lag it throughout the semester. Fair to me and my education. People complain, but shes easy to pass if you pay attention. She makes history pretty fun and relates it to today. She offers help. She lets the class discuss, better if you do. I'm taking her again :O
She is a hard grader. She's nice in the class, and people can make up the essays. A lot of stuff she didn't cover in class,we need to study and looking for answers by ourselves. As far as I know, most people didn't get a good grade in the exams.I feel helpless, specially in the final exam.Overall, she is a nice person.I like her,but don't like my grad
Yap, she is kind in class but you'll soon find out that her class is useless. if you really want to learn sth, don's chose her.
very hard grader & never responsible in class. You'll learn nothing if you chose her/
I'm sorry I said she is nice in the earlier rate. Today, I found out my grade, and it's D!!!I did everything she ask for and I did the extra cridet and make up essay.and I never miss a class, still give me a D! btw, I got A in political Science from another teacher.
i did everything and all the extra credits available, got a B on the mid term did well on my final, but got a c in her class wtf that doesnt make sense! shes always absent too dont take her class its a waste of time
2 test, midterm and final. boring lectures, powerpoints are irrelevant and when it comes tests, she hasnt gone over the material, Expects too much from the tests. Final paper is a joke. the whole class is a joke.
Class was boring, she pairs you up in 2 people groups and this is your partner the whole semester. So make sure your'e paired with someone who's there and isn't lazy. The final is a presentation you have to do on certain history books. Is this a history class or a speach class?
Boring! Don't take her!
She's a great person and really cares about her students. She has this passion for history and it definitely shows. Small assignments here and there. Midterm and final are short answers and essay. Final project is a presentation in class. Extra credit is a 3-4 page essay. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
Always late. we had a midterm, final and a final paper. she broke the final paper into parts but she was very unclear of what she wanted. lectures didnt really correspond to the reading and questions on the tests were based a lot more than the text book than her powerpoints. if you can take someone else DO IT!
Late consistently & unorganized. Has you do busy work. Lacks preparation of lesson plan and runs late while lecturing which eventually makes you get out late. We have 2 days left in the Summer Session and she has yet to return any major tests or quizzes. So you don't even know where you stand in her class. Dont bother emailing her, she wont answer.
this class is a mess. shes late a lot. she fixes her computer in class constantly. she takes forever teaching something, she took 3 weeks to teach the reconstruction, which is only 12 yrs or so of us hist!!! and she skips over more important stuff. tests not relevant to class, book you never even open. you almost always are confused about hw.
ALWAYS late. Uses PowerPoints only as source of lectures. Didn't return one single assignment until the end of the semester. Said she had office hours but was always running late so no office hours. She does not reply to e-mails whatsoever no matter how many time you email her.
I did the extra credit, and got C in the exams.never know my final project grade, because she didn't give it back to me. Anyway, she given me a "D"!!She doesn't give HWs, kind of easy. but grade VERY HARD.If you want to pass the class, you have to read the book by yourself.
she is good and comfortable talking about any political views.not bias like other teachers that defend history/political idealism of the u.s ohh yes she has big front nicely built
If you got a bad grade...then you're just lazy/stupid/even lazier. This is an easy class and she teaches the stuff pretty well. Yeah she's late 5 minutes to class and PP is always disorganized, but she knows her stuff. I did think the historical paper about some person you know was random, but easy.
She is great teacher, but very difficult when it comes down to her Midterms and Finals. I didn't get the hang of her teaching till towards the end. Hopefully I pass the class. If you lovee History this is totally your class. When she teaches, she does it with so much passion, but since I despise History I wasn't very interested.
I wouldn't recommend her. Always late or misses too much class. Random assignments and hard exams and test. The only easy thing about her class are the quizzes before class...
The problem with this professor is that she is very disorganized and she NEVER hands back your assignments. It's not hard to get a good or even decent grade. Just make sure to put in a lot of facts and detail into your work. Otherwise you will end up with a poor grade...
I really enjoyed taking this class. If you pay attention in class you will do fine. She gives a pretty clear review for any tests in class. I recommend her.
First of all she grades based on how well you answer her questions on her test. If you dont answer what she is asking for she will give you an F. But over all it is not hard.
Very clear in her reviews and helps students if you ask. I really liked her class and learned alot
Quizzes everyday but are a piece of cake since she let's the class chose the questions(:. Not alot of homework. Her class is easy if you study for the midterm & final!
I took her class during the winter, and it was horrible. she just use the useless power point and give you very hard test and the tests she wants you to write a big essay. I worked so hard but still got C. not a easy teacher, only thing easy is the quiz which she use it as attendance.
Terrible! if you dont mind teaching yourself, then take her. She expects you to read the book on your own without even telling you which chapters to read. and when you go into class she puts up a powerpoint and just skims through it, you cant even write anything down. she is also very boring! everyone drops her class or just doesnt show up.
Lectures are boring. Essays are okay, very inconsistent when they are due. Mid-term and finals are pretty hard. And one project. Take a different teacher if you want to learn.
Pretty much late to every class. Quizzes=easy, get to choose answers/questions (just don't be late, its for attendance and points). Jumps around alot, hard to take notes based on powerpoint, have to listen. really unclear with directions. likes to analyze useless passages and stories that are very meaningless. easy class to zone out in
She was unclear about assignment due dates. Lectures were boring and lost interest.
She was not helpful at all. I don't know what to say about her, she was that confusing.
It was so hard staying awake in her class. She's SO BORING! Her teaching style is so confusing. Don't take her...
This class is super easy if you take good notes, and pay attention during her lecture! She gives you hints on what you will be tested.
This professor is so genuine and cares about her students so much! Class was always so fun and interesting. All lectures were interesting. Such a great class!!!
Over all she is a very passionate teacher..easy grader but a lot of writing and reading is required. She does not leave a lot of homework but her assignments require a lot of work. It was worth it taking her class because she made it very interesting!
I enjoyed Professor Urrutia's teaching style. I learned so much in her class (Latin American History). I think if you had a negative experience & find her class to be "boring," then its most likely bc you are personally not stimulated by the subject to begin with. And, no matter who teaches the subject, you'll find something to complain about.
Great teacher. Took her for 2 classes. She is very passionate and expects you to participate and put your effort. If you are just trying to get by, then you shouldnt even bother taking her. Or even transferring. Because people who cant challenge themselves in community college wont have a place at a University
She's a great instructor. She couldn't be more clear cut with the instructions & what she expects. She covers a lot of material, so you have to read the text. Trust me when I say read ahead, because she'll handout more readings. She's an instructor I wish taught more subjects, because the way she teaches is the way all professors should be teaching
She lectured good and gives good perspective and insight on the subject she is lecturing about . She is passionate about history and expects her students to be professional as all professors should be. Her test were kinda complicated and had so many parts to it that takes up a lot of time, and she takes a long time to grade.
U WILL WORK & READ A GREAT AMOUNT! MUST KEEP UP W TEXT BOOK READINGS & ALOT OF ARTICLES THAT SHE WILL TEST U ON. MAJOR PAPER DUE AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER WITH A 3RD BOOK U R REQUIRED TO WRITE ABOUT, ON TOP OF THE WEEKLY HW SHE GIVES. INDEBTED IN HW IF UR FT, WORKING 4 AN "A." W ALL THE WORK SHE GIVES, SHE SWEARS DAT HISTORY IS UR ONLY CLASS
Professor Urrutia's class is decent. She does go into detail in class lectures (very boring). Sometimes it is a little confusing, but if you read the book you should be fine. You will have a midterm and final both being multiple choice questions and essays. You will also need to write a paper by the end of the semester.
This class was a breeze. Even though its History of the Americas 2, I didnt take the first part and it was still really easy. Shows 2 movies, and tests are mostly based off her lectures. 1 Paper written about a novel. 1 group project.
Enjoyed Latin American History. Did not appreciate the challenging work she demanded. Time consuming class! BIG tests on EVERYTHING! Intimidating long essays. The 8-12 students lasted in the end were strongest that survived. Keep up or u might fail. Prior English class recommended. U become a better writer n analytical student cuz of her. GuD LUCK!
IF YOU DONT LIKE WRITING ESSAYS THEN DONT TAKE HER! OTHERWISE ITS LIKE TAKING A ENGLISH CLASS WITH ALL THESE ESSAYS SHE GIVES U! EVEN ON TESTS SHE GIVES U "FREE RESPONSE" WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH A ESSAY
My favorite ELAC professor thus far. Passionate about her job. Class consists of group/class discussions, power points and short films (take notes!), and reading you do at home. She is a very clear and fair grader. Gives extra credit and chances for revisions. Very interesting class. Made me want to take another history class, with her preferably.
Wonderful professor! Her lectures were interesting and extremely insightful. There is three essays but they are very easy , the same with her exams very easy but only if you read the book.
Well it is true she does make you write essays, but I think every history class requires you to do so. She'll give a lot of time to do them and often ends up changing the due date so that you will have even more time. As extra credits she wants you to write an essay, but it will really bump up your grade A WHOLE LOT. She is also there to help you.
She is easy to pass as long as you understand the material. If you don't , it's likely you might pass with a C , if you get some of the material. She cares about the subject and passionate. Lectures are not boring.
Professor Urrutia is the best History Teacher. I am a History Major and have taken all my History Classes with her that she offers, except History 86 and 87. She is a very compassionate person and truly cares about her students. She isn't difficult at all if you read the book and pay attention and study. Truly one of the best professors I've had.
I was reading the comments and reviews and the only thing I can say is that the negative reviews are spot on. The only to go about taking her class is to read the material yourself. She is passionate about her subject and she is not rude but that does not mean that you will learn and engage in her class.
Her class is pretty easy, and she has a tendency to push back due dates. This class should be an easy A as along as you do the work.
She is the most unorganized professor & I have a 4.0 GPA. Everyday she was late to class, she didn't give the class a syllabus until November, didn't inform the class which chapter we were on, & was behind uploading 11 Powerpoints until Dec. The main issue is that she didn't turn in my final to the Disable Student Program's office so I can take it.
She's is a very nice and chill professor. Lots of reading. She is very understanding , gives a lot of people time and extra credit to pass the class, so there is no excuses. She's available for all her students and helps them in any way to understand the content. Would most def, take again.
Professor Urrutia is a great professor. She tends to be late very often even though her office was one floor above our classroom. Shes very understanding and flexible with due dates. Many times dates were pushed back and students still didnt have the work done and allowed them to still turn it in which is great. Genuinely cares. great professor!
Shes a nice person that cares about history, social justice, and education but she's late for every class, forgetful, doesn't keep up with grading, doesn't respond to emails, and expects a lot from the very few lengthy assignments/tests she does give. her lack of focus, organization and clarity makes the class frustrating for any student.
She is very passionate about history, however her lectures are not really lectures. It's more conversational, and she speaks on random topics every week so it's not following a specific syllabus, which makes it confusing. Assignments take a long time to be graded, things are not posted online all the time if at all. Would not recommend.
Honestly, Professor Urrutia is a great person. Yet, she is very unorganized in everything including grading, being late to class, lecture being very vague, or going of topic, in test preparation, and responding to emails. There is no clear guidelines and agenda in the class which makes it harder on the students who want to receive A's.
Very inspirational teacher who is very passionate about history. I really enjoyed her lectures. However she was a bit late in giving back grades so that was a bit worrisome to me as someone who wants to make sure I am doing good in class.
Agree that she is passionate about history. She works extra with you if you go to office hours. Could have returned work faster but let you revise. She cares about students.
Prof. Urrutia simply one of the best. A professor who truly cares for her students. She makes her lectures interesting and fun.
She is passionate about history. She really understanding professor with your situation. She has an amazing lecture. Even without reading the book. She covered everything with her lecture. She also lent with grading the essay you turn in. She also reviews with you when it comes to midterm and final. She also opens arm when it comes to rough draft.
Very encouraging and loves history. Sometimes does not return essays right away but she makes lots of comments and lets you fix and improve your work.
Professor Urrutia is fair and supportive. You will learn in this class. She wants you to know the real history of this country.
Very easygoing professor! VERY passionate, so her lectures are dense. Her material is not tough at all - lots of reading but it's all optional. Her study guides/slides have all you need to pass. Most of the grading comes from essays (on exam and papers). She is always available to help with essays, and has MANY makeup/extra credit options!
Was always at least 30 minutes late to class every time the class met, shes very knowledgeable with what shes talking about but gives too many opinions instead of the facts. Only good thing is that her study guides are clear. Unorganized & takes forever to grade stuff so you really wont know what you have in her class. She's all over the place.
Cares a lot about history and about students. Office hours are helpful if you ever need help. She helped me revise my first exam. 3 exams and one paper, and she grades on improvement.
She loves history and it shows. Assigned one book and a lot of articles. One assignment was to research our own native roots, which I had never looked into before. Opened my eyes!
Professor Urrutia loves her history class so she explained it very well. The homework and the test are not hard at all if you read the book and the handouts papers.
We had to buy a book for the class that we never ended up using. She's consistently late every day by 15 minutes. Late with grading. Her lectures are nice but a bit boring at times. You can zone out for quite a while and not miss anything. No group project but will ask people to discuss. The final is an essay but it's pretty easy. Overall easy A.
Will not grade your papers until 3 weeks after the class is over. I did not know my grade the whole semester. There were only 6 assignments the whole semester but she keeps saying she is busy and will grade it soon. Pretty forgetful overall.
Professor Urrutia was absolutely unprofessional. All assignments werent graded till the end of semester so you never knew what your grade was. Always late to zoom. Ignored questions asked. Super unorganized when giving assignments and test too. My class submitted a test in beginning of October and she didnt grade it till the end of the semester.
I am still waiting for my grade for this class as of (1/12/2021) and she said that grades would be up by yesterday but I havent seen it. She is a cool person but as a teacher, I dont think she cares.
Though Professor Urrutia is kind and fair overall, she is quite forgetful and does lag in assigning and grading assignments (we only had 6 overall). Because she is also very passionate about the subject matter, she tends to sidetrack in her lectures sometimes. Albeit interesting, you need to have a lot of patience with this course.
Professor takes long to grade your assignments. She also doesnt enter your grade until the semester is done and over. Leaves you in limbo. Which sucks because if you have EOPS you need to know right away. Also she always had an excuse for why she could not attend office hours. Until two days later. Be ready to submit work in 3 days after assigned.
So about this professor, she goes over lectures well and seems passionate about the subject but the workload is a lot. She gives a lot of work and in turn takes forever to grade them so you will always be trying to guess your grade. It is now 2/18/21 approximately 2 weeks since the class and I have yet to know what my final grade is, beware.
Im sure she is a great person but please do not take this professor! No recorded lectures, a paper every week on the textbook chapter. I never learned in this class and i love history. She has not graded any papers since week 4... this is finals week and i still have no idea where I stand. Midterm was 3 essays? The Final is two essays? no sense
This prof is great in the sense they have a passion for they're area of expertise, but thats all, She has a heavy lack of communication, she is barely grading our first essay march, mind you its already the last week of class, June, So I have no feedback on what I might do wrong, until the class is done.
be ready to not get the module until Thursday and still due Sunday. also, you will never know your grade or even if you're doing the assignments correctly until finals week. if you are not going to grade papers on time, release modules Monday morning, or even teach the class with recorded lectures please please please reconsider your occupation
Professor Urrutia is NOT great. Very random lectures, random assignments. Hard to get a hold of through email, and goes on too many irrelevant tangents. Assignments are alright, but you have to put effort and do at least a decent job to get a good grade. Did not grade anything until 2 wks after course was over, does not give clear instructions
Professor Urrutia is the most off-hand professor I have seen. Does not upload weekly assignments but randomly uploads a 300-point assignment due in three days. Do not take her online class. It will mess you up.
I don't have an issue with the professor she seemed cool from the few/rare announcements that she posted. She is literally non existent throughout the whole semester. She doesn't have assignments ready to go on the grading scale. They pop up when she pops up. The assignments that pop up aren't multiple choice, they are essays and long questions
She is good at explaining history. Not the best at grading. Seemed like she procrastinated with grading and as a result, we never knew what our grades were throughout the semester. I enjoyed her teaching but not knowing my grade ever throughout the semester really makes me not want to recommend her.
By far the worst class I have ever taken. The professor is none existing. We didn't start the semester till about one month in. She post work at the very last minute and expects us to drop everything and work on her assignments. Don't even bother emailing her as she doesn't even reply. She even made us work past the school semester.
She is very open about her political views (which there is nothing wrong with that) but she sneakily tries to implement her views on you. The moment she considered Trump more of a fascist than Joseph Stalin I knew she was very liberal and bashing towards anyone who opposes her views. Literally the only issue I had with this professor.
took summer assyncronous class. We have 2 days left and all she's graded is 3 assignments. She gives you her email and phone number but does respond. She uses a free textbook but chapters are painfully long to read and all questions on assignments must be answered with detailed paragraphs. She gives long videos and articles that you must include.
GRADING is SHOCKING!
The professor is lazy, and makes tests difficult for all students also she needs to go back to college and learn how to teach properly. that's my opinion
Laziest professor I've ever encountered. It's week 4/5 & she has yet to grade assignments from week 2. She gave me a 0 for an assignment, I fixed it & she still hasn't updated it. She doesn't use email. Always 15-20 min late to class. Goes on political rants often. She would cancel class alot too. Personality wise she's nice but work ethic so low!
I wish I read her ratings, but PLEASE avoid this one. Grades all your assignments after the semester is over. She assumed I was cheating, which made me a bit confused. So report me if you believe so, I would love to challenge that. Did not provide her proof, then slaps you with the "I've already submitted your grades". How is she still a Professor?
While the professor can be disorganized, using unstuck ai and staying on top of the workload can really help. The class is tough but engaging if you put in the effort.
I have no idea how she got hired to teach college students!
Try your best to take another professor for this class. If none are available try looking for another class that meets the same requirements to replace this one. Absolutely do not take a class with this professor. Pushes her political views onto students too and assumes we all agree with her and she is right. Talks with too much ego. Trust me dont.
