She was a very helpful teacher and would help any student with any question. She talks very quickly so be sure to listen well and pay attention. The class itself is stupidly easy, but the online homework is tedious. Overall, a great professor.
She is usually late to class, always getting your hopes up that maybe it will be cancelled. she's very sweet and her quizzes are partner, and if you make a mistake, she tells you and you can fix it and get 100%. her tests are simple, as long as you study the material. she does A LOT of notes and examples. Over all, good class.
She is a great professor. English was not her first language so she does have a thick accent but her handwriting is amazing and she writes everything she says so while in class it is not a problem. She gives random quizzes in classes that you work with people on that are easy points that really help. She does't give finals either.
If you go to class you will get an A. She is very nice, but can be difficult to understand. Id recommend trying to get a seat in the front of the class
Dr. Qiu is a great professor. She goes at the right pace for the class and answers any questions that are asked. There are pop quizzes every week but it is just to check attendance. You work with a parter on quizzes and she looks over them before you turn it in. She lets you use a notecard on exams and there is no final. She wants students to learn
Personally, I could not understand anything she said except for when she pronounced words very slowly. This alone made the class very hard for me. Math has never been a good subject for me. I need a really good teacher. However, she does let you use a notecard on the test. She added points to my average at the end of the semester and saved my grade
Professor Qiu's accent is a little hard to understand sometimes, but she is a great professor. She really knows her subject and how to help others understand it as well. There are 4 exams, which are easy as long as you did the homework. She grades fairly, giving points just for having the right steps. Taking this class has made me love math again.
Best math teacher i could ask for honestly. At first i was worried about her accent but i got used to it and she writes everything anyway so it didnt matter. No final, you get to have a notecard during her tests, you should always get a 100 on her quizzes since she checks over them before turning them in. It should be hard to fail this class.
It's an interesting class. Her accent isn't class breaking because she writes everything done so notes are a must. If you're good at math this course is pretty easy. The homework is minimal and easy. She gives quizzes that you will get a 100 on because she helps you. However exams are difficult. You get a notecard but the problems are harder.
really good teacher once you get passed the accent. gives multiple tests with no final. lets you use one side of notecard for the tests.
Overall, she is a very nice and helpful teacher! Her lectures are very helpful so you must attend -- (there will be pop quizzes, so attendance is key anyway). She takes lots of notes so that everyone can understand. For tests, she lets you use a notecard. Overall, the class is very easy if you take good notes and attend classes.
In the beginning it was a little hard to understand her because of her accent but her notes were very clear and you get used to her accent. She gives pop quizzes but you take them with a partner and you get to correct them until you get a 100. The homework is due every week but you can take it to the grader and correct it for a 100 also.
Little hard to understand at first due to accent, but fluent in the language of math. Displays all work done on screen so the lectures are easy to follow along. Homework is due and will help reinforce what you learn in class.
sO FAr So GoOd?
Great teacher and explains things well. If you take notes and do the homework its an easy A. She even gives a note card to use on the test.
Though her accent is strong, she writes everything down so you can literally be death and still make an A in this class. Homework is really easy, and since she lets you use a notecard on her exams there is no need to memorize anything. Just show up to class ON TIME, if you're too late she won't let you take the pop quizzes.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. It is a guaranteed A+. She gives pop quizzes in class, but you can take them with a partner and she tells you if you got something wrong, will let you fix it, and you'll still get a 100 on the quiz. Exams are super straightforward, do the homework, and you will get an A. The notes she does during class are clear, and great.
Good teacher overall. Explains concepts well and is always willing to help those who ask for it. Class can get kinda boring. If you took Calculus AB in high school it will be an easy A.
Lin Qiu is a good professor. She teaches very well and gives good notes that cover everything she teachers over. However, she is a very tough grader when it comes to tests and homework. Her tests are definitely harder than need be since the concepts are super easy but the equations that have to be plugged into the concept are pretty challenging.
(I am not great at math) No offense to her at all, but it took me 2-3 weeks to finally understand her thick accent. I don't believe anyone made a final grade of above 85 in this class. Most folks made a C. I barely passed and am glad to be done with it.
Lin Qui is one of the most difficult professors I have ever had. Her tests are the hardest in the whole university and no matter how prepared you think you are she is going write the problems so it completely confuses you. The problems will be similar to what you did in class but will have one aspect different that will completely throw you off.
Professor Qiu is a good professor. Although she has a accent which makes her difficult to understand, she is extremely meticulous with her notes which helps in understanding concepts. She gives pop quizzes although you can take them with a partner. Her tests are difficult compared to her lecture material so be ready to learn outside of class.
If you already know calculus, this is a blowoff. If not, she's still fine to take, but be prepared to go to tutoring a lot and teach this class to yourself because her lectures are literally just copying examples from the book onto her paper. It's still alright because her tests aren't too hard, just be prepared to work hard.
No extra credit. Tests are worth so much. I was a complete newbie to calculus. ADVICE. TUTORING TUTORING! Ask her to make you a review for the exam. She teaches good, but should do harder examples. Test is way harder than HW and Quizzes. Don't fret. Worst u can do in this class is a C. U would have to try to fail.
She is a high school teacher for college. Quizes are for attendance and tests arent to difficult. Study up on stuff thats difficult. If u already know calc then it should be fine.
Dr. Qiu is very kind and helpful when it comes to any sort of problems. Her lectures are just copying notes and she goes pretty fast. If you already took this class then it should be an easy A, the class is much easier than an AP high school class. If not then make sure you do the homework by yourself and check it using slader or chegg or something
Awesome professor. Homework assignments aren't difficult and many questions on the tests come straight from the homework. I never took any calculus classes in high school, and just finished up with a 99.15% with Dr. Qiu in Calc I. Guaranteed A if you put in the work, and at least a guaranteed pass if you show up to the lecture.
Dr. Qiu is the best math professor. I had her for Math 151 and 152. She transitioned well when covid hit. She gives every opportunity to get an A in lecture and lab. She gives "pop quizzes" every class, but she always gives the chance to make 100 on all of them. Lab is also easy. Her TAs are very good and Dr. Qiu makes sure lab helps and is easy.
Qui has to be one of the best professors to take. She explains everything well and does not treat students dumb when they ask a question. She does require you to turn in notes so attendance is mandatory since there are notes in each class. Homework is assigned each lecture and you have a full week to do it. I only used the textbook for the project.
Dr. Qiu is a fantastic professor. She responds to emails immediately and will answer all your questions in class. A little fast-paced and hard to understand at first but you get used to it after a week or so. Tests are just questions from the homeworks.
Note heavy class. Notes and Homework problems both very helpful when it came to the content on the exams. Pretty straightforward class, no surprises. Don't fall behind though, lectures and notes can be lengthy.
Dr. Qiu is awesome. You have to take notes and submit them after every lecture, and they help on the tests a lot. The test are literally just the homework questions with different numbers, so writing down every homework step will help you so much. It's true that her accent is hard to grasp at first. The course gets a little messy near the end
Professor Qiu gives really good lectures. It's true that almost every lecture she takes notes as a grade, but ultimately it only serves to help you understand the material better. The exams are not bad as long as you really pay attention during lecture, study practice problems, and do the homework. Try not to fall behind as everything builds on.
Very good teacher once you get to understand her accent. Gives very good notes, and the tests are not weighted unreasonably in the course (i.e. if you do bad on a test it won't kill you). You must study for the tests. She will teach you how to do it , you will have to get good at it. The tests will be the hardest problems, and will require speed.
This professor is terrible! She cannot speak english very well so she is sort of hard to understand. For tests that she grades, she grades very unfairly and takes away a lot of points for nothing. If everything on your test is right you still lose points for no reason. She does not write on exam papers so you are unsure of where you lost points.
Lin Qui is the goat. By all means, you're gonna want her over the other calc professors. Her class is organized and she is understanding toward her students. If you pay attention and do the homework, and maybe study 2 hours per week...you will get an A.
Dr.Qiu is a great prof and does everything she can to help her students succeed. Lectures are super helpful and although there is a good amount of it, it's worth it for the practice. Her tests arent easy but they are similar to what you will have done in class/on hw. Highly recommend her for 152, overall an excellent professor.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. DO NOT TAKE HER NO MATTER WHAT. SHE IS VERY STRICT AND NEVER HELPFUL. DO NOT TAKE HER. SHE IS VERY RUDE TOO WHENEVER YOU APPROACH HER. THE TESTS ARE HARD AND STRICTLY GRADED FOR NO REASON.
Dr. Qiu is nice and allows you to use your notes on the exams... USE THE NOTES ON THE EXAMS. For the people who aren't at least making a B in the class, they are honestly not trying and just blaming the professor. This class is chill and doesn't require that much studying to pass. A little more studying is required to get an A. do hw, quizes, labs.
There are much better professors here just take the class with anybody else. Her grading is so so unfair and she nitpicks every little thing... The average for the exams was mostly in the 60s, and her accent is really thick so its hard to understand. She covers more material than the other profs and her exams have stuff we didn't learn.
HW is similar to the lecture examples, & the tests are easier than the WebAssign HW. She lets you use notecards on the exams. Her tests are all FRQs with more emphasis on work than final answers. If you constantly click "practice another" on WebAssign HW, that's good practice for the tests. Great prof, looking forward to her 152 class.
Lin Qiu's teaching style is giving you a lot of notes and giving out difficult tests. She likes to say that it is easy, however, exams are timed and you're only given an hour to solve difficult series and integral tests. "This is GRADUATE type of stuff" - one of the TAs. We shouldn't be given such difficult things because we aren't prepared for it.
Although I took calculus 1 in high school, I love the way she teaches. She expects you to put in the work, so as long as you do that, you'll be fine. The tests were a bit challenging, but she allows you to bring a note card and formula sheet into the test.
Must turn in notes (almost every class) and has a lecture quiz to to make sure you payed attention but nothing super hard and can be worked on as a group. Exams were 70% of the grade so one bad test and you could be fighting to get your grade up for the rest of the semester. But lets you use note cards and formulas on tests.
Her thick accent takes like a week to get over, attendance is mandatory as she has you submit your notes as a percentage of your grade. Lecture quizzes are extremely easy and you can get help on them during class. The tests for calc 2 were so much easier than the HW too, so if you do the HW and review the notes you're ready for the tests. Take her.
She is a very good professor except for her accent. She teaches concepts mostly through examples which I found to be helpful. The exam questions can be difficult, but she lets you use a notecard to write down formulas. Lots of the test questions were similar to the in-class examples. Make sure to take notes because they are graded.
lectures are simple and easy. Homework load is super heavy. The test are extremely difficult for no reason, no point in paying attention to the lecture problems because they don't even correlate to what she puts on the test. Honestly, a great teacher but for some reason has the need to make her test impossible to get an A in.
Dr. Qiu was a great professor in her attempts to explain things, and there are a couple extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. You get to make notecards for the exams so make sure to use those- I had roughly 20 per exam. Exams are rough, but doable if you do the HW and study. No rounding though. If you put in the work you'll be fine.
She is one of the best math professors on campus and knows what she is doing. Sometimes she teaches a little fast and you have to go back and look at the material but that is rare. She gives really good examples that will then be seen on her exams. She also gives out many extra credit opportunities that can be used to boost your test grades.
She had a lot of group quizzes and was very pleasant as a teacher compared to others
Way too many assignments and way too thick of an accent. Always runs late on lectures, and sometimes gives5 assignments per lecture. She gives many ways to learn the subject, but it is hard to understand when you're graded on the notes you take.
Her heavy accent can be difficult to listen sometimes. But she is very organized with her notes. There are quizzes after each lecture, but they are very easy and you can do it together. Four exams during the semester but no final. Her exams can be tricky but as long as you do all the homework and go over them before each exam, you will be fine.
I had to Lin Qiu twice, once for Math 151 and again for Math 152 as they were the only math classes that worked with my schedule, and both times were a pain. I found it hard to learn in her class because she goes through topics really quick and has a very thick accent. The tests are also worth around 70% of your final grade, and are all on paper.
Had well over 125 assignments throughout the semester, with some lectures having 5 assignments tied to them. She has an extremely thick accent, so the first few weeks are hard to understand. Other than that, class is well organized and she gives small extra credits for tests.
She's overall a great professor. Calculus is a difficult subject, but I felt like she taught it pretty well in her lectures. The exams had very reasonable questions and we were allowed to bring notecards to all of them. I didn't take any calculus in high school and I was able to succeed in her class.
The main problem with me was her thick accent it made it very hard to understand her. She has 4 tests worth 70% of the grade. She lets you use notecards during the test and you can write whatever you want on them. She had a good amount of homework and she had us take pictures of our notes at the end of every single class which many forgot.
dr qiu is a great professor if you apply yourself by showing up to class, taking notes, and doing all the bonus point opportunities she provides. An A or B in the class is almost guaranteed in the class if you study for each test. Also you are allowed to use notecards on the exams and a printed packed with the unit circle, trig identities, etc.
Amazing lecturer. Sometimes it's a little hard to understand her, but that's made up by the notes she gives. Honestly some of the best notes I've ever been given. The only warning I will give is that the tests are worth a lot of the grade. In my case the tests were weighted for 70 percent of the grade. Definitely the teacher to take for this course.
Amazing teacher. Difficult class. Calc 2 is no joke. Shes very good at teaching, sometimes hard to understand but you'll get used to her accent. You can use notecards, a trig identities paper, and a unit circle during the test. She gives you very good notes for your notebook, which are for a grade. She is a teacher that wants you to succeed.
Dr. Qiu is super nice, but her accent does it for me. I am Asian so I've been surrounded by Asian accents all my life but hers is by far the worst I've heard. Also, tests are worth 70% of your grade which I believe is way too much, but she does grant a lot of extra credit. She is very knowledgeable and does wish to see her students succeed.
She is a good lecturer. You will be expected to take notes but she shows you exactly what to write. Her notes are thorough and helpful for homework. On tests she allows note cards. You will have HW just about every other night because it is one HW for one lecture, but you will have a week to do it from the day of the lecture.
If you've taken AP Calc 1 you'll be fine in this class regardless of what teacher you take but if you take this teacher, I swear to you, you will get an A or A+. This class was literally my GPA booster this semester and I'm also taking her again next semester. Don't be afraid to go up and ask her questions. She is so helpful and an awesome teacher!
Pretty good professor, accent is just very hard to understand sometimes. Clearly wants you to succeed, lets you use notecards and cheat sheets on her test (HELPS A LOT IF YOU ARE GOOD AT MAKING NOTECARDS) only reason I got a low ish grade was because I didnt put in work at the start of the semester
For me personally, I took calculus in high school so this class wasn't too bad. However, for those who didnt, it may be hard to learn, but once you get used to her accent it won't be too bad. Make sure to attend her office hours if you need help. It really does make a difference, and it will help you understand her and her lectures better.
Notes taken in class are graded, as are your steps on the homework, and you are required to review 5 other student's homework steps too. Exams are tough and take a massive portion of the grade. Hard to understand accent, confusing lectures, but really good notes. Lots of homework and it's not easy, there is easy extra credit though for exams.
Pros: Wonderful at teaching, good late turn in dates, attendance is not "mandatory"; but still show up for notes] [Neutrals: Has an accent; lectures are slightly harder to hear, fast notes, no final; but 4 exams (allowed to have 3 notecards)] [Cons: 27ish total HW/note grades] (!) Skip 152 and take 251, good teacher but be prepared to work.
Good math professor, especially if you have prior calculus experience. She has a thick accent but you get used to it after a while.
Very tough grader, tests are nothing like the homework, take other professor.
She has very good notes, but that is the only good thing. Her tests are worth 70% of your grade so unless you are a good test taker, do NOT take her. Only allows 5 note cards and cheat sheets on tests but it doesn't help either. She also doesn't curve.
Great notes but quite all. She is a very harsh grader, after 2 tests she realized that people were getting good grades on the test, so she fired the student test grader and scored her self where the test average was a 57. When asked she said the grades were very good so there will be no curves. For Math 152, her class can cost your ETAM.
Very test-heavy, 70% of your grade, so might tank if you bomb one exam. If you discover that the professor is grading the exams, either switch professors or be very sure of yourself when studying, because she is a harsh grader.
Had to do nearly 100 assignments in this class. Better hope she isn't grading the tests or else you are guaranteed to fail. Take Shrestha.
She is a harsh graded. Run if she is grading the exams. Strong accent. Good notes confusing at the end they aren't useful for some homework. Pretty much you have to read the book to understand what is going on. Exams is 70% of your grade she doesn't give partial credit is or you get it right on her way or you get it wrong. Extra work for no reason.
She has a very strong accent but you get used to it after a few lectures. This was the first time she taught this class and she did great. You must submit your notes for lectures and homework, which I think helps you pay attention. Test weigh 70% of class. She never graded any of our tests herself so our class never suffered from her harsh grading.
Calc 2 is NO JOKE. Be ready to work your tail off for an A. But Qiu is a nice lady who provides good notes to help you succeed. Tests are hard and are a big portion of your grade, and she does grade harshly as well. Shresta would be a better option, but she is not bad either. BEWARE of test 3, as you will have to show work exactly as she does it!
She's a good prof. Has a heavy accent, BUT writes everything on the board, you just have to follow along. There are "pop quizzes" in class, but you can work with people around you on them, not proctored or anything like that. Tests can be difficult; the Helper grader will usually give good grades. Prof is very hard grader if she grades it. No final
Her tests are hard and pen-and-paper. While similar to WebAssign homework, she chooses the toughest questions. Extra credit is given after each exam. Overall, the course is challenging, but following lectures and completing homework should be sufficient. Professor Qui does have an accent, which took me some time to get used to.
Dr. Qiu is the goat of calculus 2. She teaches concepts in a structured way that makes everything click together very nicely, has amazing lectures with very helpful notes, and exams although weighted heavily (70%) are 100% doable with effort. No regrets taking her class, calc 2 was made much less frustrating. 10/10.
Lin Qiu teaches 152 very well even though it is a hard class. Very helpful in office hours, tests can be difficult however 152 will be difficult no matter what.
She is a very good lecturer that is able to explain complex topics in a very understandable way. The most difficult part of the class is that tests are very heavy being 70% and having difficult material. however she does give a good amount of partial and extra credit. I would absolutely take her again. (be ready to level up)
Do not take Professor Qiu for Math 152. The sheer amount of assignments on top of the harsh exams in her class were enough to have me worrying about the class all semester. Minimum of 3 homework assignments per week as well as daily lecture quizzes and note submissions for each lecture. Her accent is also incredibly tough to interpret. Take Francis
First time teaching the class so it will probably get harder as she didn't cover everything, but the content was still similar to college station 251. No need to read book (but the book is good) as her notes are similar to the HWs. Exams were IDENTICAL to WebAssign, so 70% tests aren't scary, but she is a harsher exam grader than the TAs.
She goes really slow and makes sure to cover everything and that everyone gets it. It is a bit hard to understand her accent but the notes are clear and explain everything. Tests are close to the homeworks, No final, but there are 4 exams and a project. 8/10
Overall, a fairly easy class that allows notecards on test - all FRQ and graded very generously with partial credit. She is funny and a good lecturer with attendance quizzes at the end of class but they are extremely easy so just show up. I promise you she is the best professor for any calculus, especially if you are retaking calculus for ETAM.
