Professor Chaves really knows the material and answers questions clearly. There is quite a bit of discussion-based work, but her expectations for responses are very reasonable. You will do well if you put in the effort and enjoy learning! Great professor and great person!!

Professor Chaves is great IF you already have a strong understanding and interest in art, music, literature, and films. I could not have passed this class if I wasn't a student involved in the arts. The terminology used is complicated and probably confusing for those not enlightened to it. Her expectations for your analytical abilities are HIGH.

Professor Chavez is personally very nice. I see people on here complaining about their grades, but I believe its their own fault for not paying attention. I got 19/20 & 20/20 on all my assignments. It might be a little tough if you are not fluent in art lingo, but overall its very simple. Only complaint is that there are word minimums on papers.

This professor is good for those who take notes, remember to do the online homework, and have no problem keeping up with the pace. she is kind, motivated, and cares about her students but knows where to put her foot down. if you have trouble paying attention in class, record her (after asking) and take notes at home!

She has a very straightforward sense with her teaching. She's a tough grader and will always find something wrong with your paper. She is great for people that focus during lectures and take notes. The content of the course seems like something she's genuinely passionate about so that helps keep focus. You must pay attention or u won't pass.

Professor Chaves was the best professor I had this semester. She is very knowledgeable about her field, and enjoys teaching students about it. She grades very harshly and most of her classes are lectures. She has 3 tests that are most of your grade, but they are open note and you can use any of her lecture powerpoints to find the answers.

Best professor at USF! I find the negative comments funny because all her tests are open notes, she has minimal homework assignments, and lays out the entire semester in her syllabus from day one. She cares about her student and will work with them!

Taken over Teams. Tests were pretty easy, open notes, based on her slides. She made lectures interesting. She'd let you know if specific things were on the tests during lectures. You gotta take good notes though. Homework could be tedious, she expected you to give in depth answers so some might find it hard. She's always willing to help if you need

Actually took prof Chaves for us history at spc and it was an easy class. Discusssion post every week and sometimes 2 in one week. No tests or anything like that and we had a paper as the final. Overall easy class

You can actually tell she makes the effort to get to know her students, learn names, interact with them. She tries to keep the class engaged by trying to relate the lecture subject to everyday lives. It is a lot of note taking so be ready to take notes non stop for hours but her tests are open notebook and not hard if you actually pay attention.

Easy class. Tests where open book and timed, but if you took notes and paid attention during class you will be fine. You have a creative project analysis which is basically drawing a picture or making music or some other form of art and analyzing it. The projects essay is just 1500 words or more.

Lecture heavy. Chill w phones. Kind. Every detail is on the tests. No Midterm or Final. Cheating on tests is hard (homemade tests)3 tests on D2L (mycourses) 30%, homework 50% (just yap) 20% final art project paper. Very organized, discussed weekly agenda/due dates in every lecture. 4 unexcused absence. If late, communicate. Easy to reach out to.

The class itself was a bit difficult, but the tests were all open note and timed. She did try to make the lectures interesting, and she is very communicative so if you have any questions she will always make herself available. She also records lectures in case you miss because she will drop hints on questions that will be on tests. Good teacher.

The best professor for humanities. Do the hybrid course. There are lots of movies/documentaries to watch that are pretty interesting. Not a harsh grader and very kind. Not too much homework.

I had her for Intro to Humanities and she was great. As long as you paid attention to the lectures, took notes (during lectures, she'd tell you what could be on the test) and did all of the homework, I would say it's easy to do well in this class. She was accommodating and helpful when hurricanes messed everything up.

Traditionally wouldnt be my kind of class, but I really enjoyed it. We watched historical videos and she wasgreat. TAKE NOTES

I loved this class! Be sure to attend all lectures and TAKE GOOD NOTES. There's 3 big tests, all lecture based and the internet won't help. There's 1 big paper where you create a piece of art, like 1500 words. The rest of the assignments are EdPuzzles and discussions of films watched in class. Attendance is a grade like a 1/3 of the time too.

Prof Chaves is super nice and knowledgable. I thought her class was actually super interesting, even though my major is not art related at all. Please attend her lectures and take notes, tests are open notes/canvas but not easy. And remember to write down all the film and music names that she tells you, she is very specific.

The best teacher and class I have ever taken, I miss it everyday! I had her for Summer B and the tests were open note, however not everything in the test is on the Powerpoints so you have to pay attention and take good notes during lecture, but the lectures were always interesting! I 1000% recommend this class and teacher!

My first impression of her was that she was very snarky and strict. That pretty much wears off once you talk to her personally, and she's very personable and caring.
