Very helpful, can get a lot out of the class
No Comments
not very clear on what she wants us to do
didn't really learn much
nice lady but not clesr with instructions on assignmnet easy to pass but lots of work.. dont take it if u want to learn... she is nice but can't teach
SIMPLY AWESOME TEACHER.DO UR WORK & U WILL B FINE.READ D ARTICLES.PARTICIPATE 2 EASE D CLASS;HELP HER TEACH.SHE SELLS ESSAYS IN DOWNTOWN 4 A $1;HELP HER MAKE A LIVING!SHE HAS INFLUENCES,DONT MAKE HER MAD & U WILL PASS.TRY 2 BREAK D ICE EARLY! PEACE!
A great teacher, who is easy on essay. To get good grades on her assignment incorporate your articles with your essays.
Class not worth it...too much work, 5 hard essays, not leniently on them at times including grammar. essay prompts = hard. not recommended, don't pick her. she offers tough mid-term and a final. Pick another teacher if you got the chance b/c her course is very tough and not worht trying for.
essays were not interesting and the class was very boring, do not reccomend for anyone, do not take 7 oclock class, boring topics and no fun
took the 7 o'clock class. not bad but boring. she gives a lot of little points that ADD UP and we studied the same**** the whole semester(which could be bad and good.. depends on how you look at it). uhh, wouldnt recommend unless youre a morning person otherwise you'll miss all those lil points
9:00 class. It was somewhat easy, it was only 3 essays, an easy mid-term, and an easy final b/c she prepared you for it and you can use any Freewrite assignments she assigned to you. She's unclear on her essay prompts, but her class discussions made it worthwhile and think.
She is a pretty good teacher...if you go to class. She assigns things every day and gives you in class work and you need to complete them to get a good grade. Essays are boring to write about. I missed ALOT of class...and got a C- which surprised me, i think she gave it to be nice
terrible
She was really nice and really laid back but seriously I felt like there was no direction to the class and I honestly didn't learn any thing. If you think you are a mornig person I promiss you will think again. I do not recomend the 7:00 class and only taae Borgen if you're good and keeping on topof homework
She is a really cool teacher, but like others said, Im not sure I learned a single thing. I took the 7am class and it was miserable, I couldnt stay awake for more than 10 minutes at a time. I got an A in the class, just do the work (aka the essays), and you'll get a B for sure, unless you really cant write. Overall, shes cool and really chill.
Cool teacher but never take the 7 am class. I was so tired I didn't hear a thing, esp. when partying the night b4. Slept through many classes but still came out with an A. Write all her points and notes down about the stories, Power of context, Chua, etc.. and put that stuff in the essay and you'll be good. Try on the essays but should be an ez A
GOOD POINTS: 1) work is assigned then the work is either not due, due but for no grade, or delayed. 2) Nice and understandable, easy grader 3) Jokes are funny. BAD POINTS: 1) Confused most of the time
She was a laid back teacher. Just turn in your roughs and she'll revise it for you. And your journal is freebie points. I dozed off most of the time and managed to pull off a B.
really easy if you show up to class, she will basically give you all the info you need to write the essays. the journal is super easy, just write in it and you get credit for it at the end!
really hard to understand most of the time. doesn't mind if your late. don't really recomend the 7pm-9:40pm class, its too long of a class and rather easy to fall asleep. esssys really confusing. pretty easy grader though. don't recomend you take her class.
Very boring class. If you attend, do homework, and do well on essays, then you're likely to pass. don't take her for granted. she's a nice woman who helps clarify on her corrections.
please don't take the teacher. she's crazy, her teaching style doesn't work and class is just plain boring. Only attend this class if you plan to learn nothing and be clueless. You be the judge.
It's true what you have heard..she is CRAZY, random and weird. but she is a great teacher that is willing to help you on your writing. as long as you can somewhat write..she will basically correct your whole paper and you make the changes and get an A. i got an A in the class so i have no complaints other than yes it is boring but participate!
She was a very good teacher that was extremely helpful and laid back. The class was confusing and boring, but if you do good on the essays then you will do fine and she barely ever checks the homework.
I dont know why people dont like her. Even though the class maybe boring but she is a great prof. with easy grading! just do your work!
I loved this class! If you are a bit liberal you will love this class. She helps you write to a point that you never thought you could. This class is great for learning how to write but it is a hard class. You need to do your work or you will fail. She has a great personality and is happy to go out of her way to help you out.She gives extra credit
Professor Borgen is great! Her class is easy - attend class b/c of in-class assignments, group work, and complete work on time. Great and helpful feedback on papers and classwork. Your writing will definitely improve as a result of taking her class!! Easy A.
Great teacher. Go to class because there is group work all the time.
She is a funny lady, she says random things and laughs out of no where lol.She is always willing to help. The class sometimes seems like a waste of time but there are a lot of group points. 4 essays that are fairly easy, do the quizzes and midterm and you'll do fine.
Learned a lot in her class & my writing definitely improved! Although classes may be boring at times, it's fairly easy. Just attend classes for group work & homework is fairly easy. May be unclear at times but is very helpful & laid back. The tutoring sessions were also very helpful with helping my writing improve.
Took this class in the summer session. She is very helpful and always is open to the questions you have. She makes you feel like you can be a good writer. Excellent english teacher, way better than most RWS teachers at state.
I hate english so much, but this teacher actually made it easy. Her essay topics are hard to understand but if you ask her for help she will clarify amazingly. She gives you enough extra credit to increase your grade by one letter. I got A. Take her if you are lazy, don't give a s#$# about english, and want an easy A.
Professor Borgen is an educator in the best sense of the word-she teaches her course to make you think, not just about assignments or a paper you have to write, but about how to read, analyze and evaluate written and spoken arguments we all encounter every day. If you are interested in getting more than just a grade, you won't be disappointed.
Borgen is a solid teacher that truely cares about her students. Group work during class is often assigned. Few long lectures. Personally learned a lot.
Took this class as a freshman, and I absolutely loved it :)! Professor Borgen was very caring and really took the time to help her students! She's a pretty hard grader, but her revisions for essays really do help a lot. Group projects were fun as well, you really get to bond with the class, i'd really recommend this class!
Borgen is awesome! I went to every class but its not mandatory and I don't think I needed to to get the grade I got.The projects(essays) are not difficult at all. I never thought I was a good writer but the most I got marked down on a essay was 3 points. She's very encouraging and helpful. She's a little corky and its not a boring class! I got a92%
She's definately a tough grader, but stay on top of the assignments and you'll do fine. Lectures are interesting at first but get extremely boring at the end. No one goes halfway through so she randomly gives extra credit attendance points. The quizzes are a joke, it's the essays that are a pain. She gives hardly any constructive feedback. Average.
She is a hard grader on essays but you actually learn in her class. Every week or 2 she has an online quiz which are fairly easy since you get three tries. :) Don't forget to let her revise your paper!!! SHE IS VERY HELPFUL AND IT WILL RAISE YOUR GRADE A LOT!
Cool class, she's very laidback but a tough grader. You really have to know how to use your literary devices. I hardly came to class, but I was on top of all my assignments. Attendance not mandatory, easy hw. Group project and 3 essays, that's what you'll be graded on. Chill teacher, just do your work.
If you can write essay's then it is easy if not don't worry she helps you out and tells you what she wants in your essay.
Corkiest most brilliant teacher at State!!!! Seriously, every class should be structured like hers. The best professor at State.
She is super nice as a teacher and a person, but her class has a lot of work involved. Every Saturday there is a quiz or essay due by 5 whereas my roommate who also has RWS200 has a month to do each essay with topics like "what's your dream vacation" or "tell about something you did." You'll learn but not without spending a ton of time on work.
shes kinda all over the place but who cares, she gives a lot of assignments but better for you, more points! Her essay prompts were confusing at time but once you asked she was willing to explain. Overall laid back professor who will help you out if you need the help
Although a very nice and caring woman, Professor Borgen is extremely unclear in her teaching. Her class requires a lot of work and her essays are very difficult to understand. If you go to her office hours and get to know her she will grade you a lot easier. All in all I managed a B but it was one of my tougher classes.
Professor Borgen is awesome! She loves her job. There is quite a bit of work but most of it is very easy. The essay prompts are a bit confusing but if you break it down you will have no problem composing a passing essay. If anyone is complaining about the difficulty, they must have forgotten that they are studying at a University level, not JC.
OK teacher. There's a lot of work and you're pretty much on your own, she hesitates to help because she likes students to work on their own. There's three papers, your final is a research paper, and lots of in-class, one-page analysis. Entire class shaped around mainstream. Not a bad teacher, but not a 'great' one either.
GO to class, ASK her questions.. she WILL help you out and walk you through an outline if you just ask. SO helpful, she really knows what she is talking about and likes to get students interacting and talking in class about the topics she goes over, you will learn more than english in this class! Definitely worth taking.
Professor does start off with a load of work but its less at the end of the semester. Looked intimidating but turned out to be a really NICE and HELPFUL professor. The essays were not hard because she constructed class time activities that helped write our essays.
PLEASE DONT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. SHE IS AWESOME! Borgen helped me become a beter writer. and is very leanent towards due dates. if soemthing is due a week and u missed it, she gives you more time. I loved her. Class is kinda boring because of the same topics she sticks with, but you learn alot from her!!! and she helps when u ask
Tough grader. Does not grade on a rubrice, instead just gives a grade based on her opinion. A lot of work, POINTLESS WORK that is tough and brings your grade down. Most classes are pointless you don't learn much and she just wastes time and won't let class out early for some reason. Grades hard on essays. BORING CLASS! I loved my previous RWS class
There is a lot of work and it is all pointless and you do not learn much from it. It is not easy work. She doesn't give out her course schedule until after the deadline in order to keep people from dropping ue to the amount of work. The work is not too hard, but she does not explain it well. Does not give you a rubric expaining where pointsare lost
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Borgen. Her classes are mostly pretty boring, her essay guidelines are pretty confusing, and she doesn't seem to have a rubric, just grades however she wants. On the other hand, though, she is really nice, funny, knowledgeable, and helpful. If you ask she will give you a full basic essay outline.
To be honest, starting this class out it was one of my tougher classes since she starts off with a lot of work, but I promise you all that work pays off and is very helpful. She is very nice and pushes you to become a good writer! I ended up with an A and LOVED this class. I hope she teaches rws200 because I would definately take her again!!!!
Professor Borgen may be extremely confusing in the essays assigns but their actually really easy. I raised by grade from a D to a B in a matter of 3 weeks!!! If you ask her for help she practically writes the essay for you! Class was boring but as long as you do the homework you'll be fine! She cares about your grade as long as you do!
Now looking at it, it's pretty hard to get an A in this class. The class is out of 300 points. That is it. So, getting a higher grade, like an A is a bit challenging. Luckily, I'm a pretty good essay writer so I received an A, but just barely. I'd recommend someone else if you're looking for someone easy! She's really nice though! And funny :)
Really chill & laid back professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I suggest you go if you have an upcoming essay due. You use the book a lot, so keep up with the readings and online quizes. Listen and take notes on what she says when it comes to essays!!! She lays it all out for you. I received a B, only because her topics were a bit boring.
Professor Borgen has made taking a remedial "English" class very enjoyable. I was hesitant about taking the class, thought I would hate it, but I actually learned a lot about how to improve my writing. She provides excellent writing skills, and tries to connect with each of her students. She grades fairly, not easily!
Great instructor, but only if you're willing to learn. Uses several methods to help coach you through becoming a better writer. I also enjoyed her sense of humor and support....!
Borgen is the best English teacher I have ever had. You can tell she really knows her stuff and wants her students to do well. If you go to class and take a few notes you'll have no trouble getting As on the essays. They seem confusing but turn out really easy because she breaks them down for you. GREAT PROFESSOR
very good teacher she could be a little confusing in her essay prompts but she is willing to answer questions in class. Her quizzes are easy just need to skim the readings. Very helpful in developing better writing skills. 3 essays in total and one group project.
She's a great grader and always put back a lot of feedback on papers to help strengthen writing style.
Great teacher, has a bit of humor. Provides lots of feedback and good class for improving your writing skills. I didn't do a few of the online quizzes, but they're pretty easy. If i did do them, I'd probably have gotten an A. The essays are fairly clear, but you can always ask her or e-mail her. Always there to help.
She's very straightforward and gives you guidelines for your papers (total 4) that tells yOU EXACTLY WHAT TO PUT. Just follow it. Lots of handoutsreadingsbusywork from course manual to analyze that's due in classat the end of the sem. Points add up! Definitely try not to skip no matter how monotone she is.
Linda was great! Papers are not too tough, literally just do EXACTLY what she tells you and you'll get an A. Ever have any questions about papers or how to do an assignment she'll fully lay it out for you, since sometimes the prompts are bit ambiguous. Overall so glad I had her as my teacher for this class.
Entire semester was about the drought so it got old real quick and there are way too many assignments. You get put into a group of 4 and you're with them for the whole semester. Seats are pretty much assigned because you have to sit with your group so forget sitting next to that cute girl in group X if you're in group Z.
Borgen is so funny! The only word I can describe her as is: Granola (her own words). The class is fairly easy and if you try you can get an A. You're in groups for the entire semester so choose wisely. We also talked about the drought the entire time... I'm pretty sure I know more about our drought than Gov. Brown, but it's an easy class.
You're stuck in groups the entire semester and that kinda sucked, but Borgen is understanding and really helpful when it comes to papers or conflict within your group. My advice is just go to class, follow her prompts, and actually try on the quizzes. Easy A if you put in effort.
Essay prompts were very complex, but if you follow her requirements and go to her office hours for clarification, it's not too bad. A lot of reading about the drought in California. Be sure to be on top of your journals because she grades those at the end of the semester. She is really chill, and I felt like my writing improved as I took the class.
Borgen is AMAZING. She goes over all the readings with you and if you pay attention she writes the essay for you. Her prompts are wordy but ask for her advice and she will tell you exactly what to do and how to do it. 3 essays total, 1 group project that isn't hard. If you are a good writer, you'll end up with over 100% in the class. TAKE HER!!!
I took her class in 2014 and she's a good professor. She told us exactly what she expected on the essays. Also, she gives feedback on your rough drafts which really helped my grade. No textbook, but we read articles and passages for the essays.
Unless English/Writing classes are your absolute favorite subjects, then do not take her. If you love going in depth into papers then definitely take her. I am a smart student who is at risk of getting a poor grade in this class because of how in depth this class goes into papers. I am a business major.
Borgen goes very in depth with the texts. If you're not good at analysis, don't take her class. The class book is absolutely necessary to get.
Not a bad teacher but you really have to put in the work. I would not recommend if you are more of a math and science person. I would also not recommend if you have other things going on like work, tough major classes, or other extra curricular activities.
Borgen is great! 3 essays. Fair/ VERY lenient grader! You do have like 3 group assignments which are easy. 5 easy online quizzes. Final, is an online 2 page essay. She does offer extra credit. Attendance required only when group activities (check syllabus 4 those dates). Will help if you ask! I will definitely take her for RWS 305.
The entire semester was based on the current drought in California, if there was more variety in topics, the class would have been way more interesting. Besides that, she is a pretty legit RWS prof and gives good feedback and very clear prompts for each project.
Her class can be boring at times, but overall she is a easy grader and she give extra credits here and there if you go to class. Overall, paper wasn't too hard. The end of the semester when final begins is when this class get super easy :).
Linda has good humor and takes things as they come. I had her for RWS280. We took it slow and tried to have as much fun as possible, while still learning something. She more than knows what she is doing, at least in this class.
I've always been told I was a great writer, until I took this class and got a C on my first paper!! And you can only miss 3 days of this class without getting points deducted. Basically, follow her format EXACTLY and you will get an A on your paper. I learned that with my last two papers. SHE IS CRAZY ABOUT WORK CITED!! so make sure its perfect!!!
I loved Linda, she is very nice and cares about her students, I would take her again in a heart beat. She made me a much better writer and her class was easy. Just do the homework and the essays and you will do fine!
Borgen is the only English I ever liked throughout my years of school. She told you exactly what she wanted out of an essay and let's you revise them. She is very understanding as well. One day I was sick, and she emailed me a copy of my paper that she edited so I could rewrite it. She made me become a better writer and I would take hear again.
Do you want to learn skills useful outside of class? Professor has the curriculum focused on rhetorical strategies/analysis with the intent of applying those skills on writing a targeted resume. This is an incredibly useful class if you have never written a resume or want to improve your current resume.
No point in attending class. Surprise quizzes online she wont remind you about. No feedback on essays
She's a solid choice for any English or RWS class. She knows how to teach and is fair when grading essays, and I intend to have her as my professor again.
Professor Borgen is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and she really makes an effort to make sure her students understand the material. She's a very reasonable grader but some of the essays are difficult towards the end of the semester & I hope I can have her as a professor again at some point
Borgen is a solid professor and a fair grader, but her essays are fairly complex. Somethings very important to her is sentence coherence and mla format. She is also very chill and does try to help you out in class but is a boring lecturer. Overall, I would take her again.
A genuinely good teacher, probably your best choice for RWS-100 or RWS-200, as I had her for both. She tries to keep her content interesting and allows students the chance to get custom feedback on their essays before turning them in. She tends to choose different content than other RWS teachers, meaning the experience is often unique and original.
You can get As on each of the 4 major projects and not get an A in the class. Tons of busy work and over-analysis of basic topics. Multiple readings for each project with online quizzes or in class activities as weekly follow-ups.
Borgen is a great professor, she definitely cares about what her students think and takes feedback to directly apply to how she teaches. Additionally, when you write an essay she is willing to read through it prior to the grading deadline to help you make improvements before its officially graded.
she is super nice and a really fair grader. 3 and essays and the final is a group project that's pretty easy. Rarely any homework. She looks over your first 2 essays and tells you what to fix before she grades it which is super helpful. I have become a much better writer because of her and I would definitely take her class again!
I was hesitant taking Professor Borgen's class at first because of her average rating, but she ended up being my favorite professor this semester. She cares about her students and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is engaged. She is a very kind and understanding person as well. If you put in the effort, this class is definitely an easy A.
I had her for 100 and 200 and the BEST teacher. She lays out what you need to do very simply. Listen in class and your papers will right themselves. She goes through each of the texts and describes what you need to do in your essays if you just listen. She is understanding that no one likes to do essays so she makes it easy if you pay attention.
Professor Borgen definitely makes you work for your grade. She gives great feedback on papers and is always willing to help. There are quizzes due on most Sundays which can be taken up to 3 times. There are 3 papers and 1 group powerpoint. I recommend this class if you are willing to put in the work for a good grade.
Professor Borgen made the class enjoyable, although most times having class at 8 am made it very hard to be involved, she tried her best to get us involved, but didnt force us to. Shes a very flexible teacher and she gives great feedback. The essays and projects were fairly easy if youre willing to do the work, which most times we did in class.
Best Professor I have had at SDSU so far. She is such a caring professor and she is also very understanding. I recommend taking her for RWS 305!!
Although a sweet professor, the class is overall confusing and asking questions is a must. She goes out of her way to make personal connections with students and makes the class itself interested. The more direct you are with your questions, the easier the assignment!
Professor Borgen truly cares about her students. In her class, it's more about the well being and her students passing than it is about turning in work. She does everything in her power to help students pass and never makes them feel overwhelmed. If you have the opportunity, take her class, you won't regret it!
Very disorganized and doesn't really specify with what she wants. She also doesn't round grades, I was 0.4 away from the next letter grade and did not want to round up even though coronavirus was going on. A caring person yes, but an okay professor
I thought she was a great RWS teacher and always gave great feedback on the essays but the essays were also very specific and detailed about what she wanted you to write about. Overall, as long as you put in the work and are a decent writer the class overall wasn't too hard.
All essays had a clear prompt that went over everything she wanted to see. She gives feedback on all essays. Lots of reading but i thought the book was interesting. A couple quizzes here and there. Very sweet and easy to communicate with. If your a decent writer you can definitely pass. lots of Group work. If you have a good group it will be easy.
Professor Borgen was a great professor! She was very understanding and you could tell she cared about all her students. You also could submit your paper to her and ask her what you need to do to get an A and she would tell you. I found the class to be very easy and she gave great feedback on essays.
Borgen is a great professor! She can be confusing since she's disorganized and all over the place with essay prompts. However, all you really need to do is just follow her tasks and ask questions when you're confused. Be prepared for lots of reading, it can seem like a lot but it's actually VERY interesting. Her class will make you a better writer.
There is stuff due every week. The work is easy, but don't underestimate the professor. There is no extra credit or late work allowed unless you have an acceptable excuse.
This course was fairly straight forward with a normal amount of HW (not overwhelming). Some of the prompts on essays and other assignments were a bit confusing to understand and read at first but the professor is nice and will help you answer any questions you have. Some of the HW involve you and your group. Overall I recommend this course.
Borgen is a solid choice for upper division rhetoric. Her assignments reflect real world issues such as unemployment and unpaid work and prepare you for the workforce with resume workshops and framing analysis. Her directions are a little confusing but she's very responsive to email and easily helps during office hours. Also very lenient grader.
For context, I took 305W over the S1 summer session. Professor Borgen is a teacher that truly cares about the best interest of her students. If you are taking the time to communicate with her, she will absolutely do her best to help you improve and make clear what it is she is grading. Putting in honest effort will guarantee a good grade.
My favorite professor so far
Borgen seems like a nice lady, but her lectures are painfully boring. I can't even get myself to come to class most days. She is an easy grader on papers, and outlines them very well and clearly, but the papers themselves are repetitive, and boring. Nice professor, super boring class.
Easy Grader, shes great. Very undertandable and class is layed back just pay attention here and there and get work done and youll have a light class
Professor Borgen cares for her students and is always willing to help. She grades somewhat hard, but I recommend sending her your essay before hand and she will peer edit it. if you make all the changes that she says then you should get a good grade on the essays. There was a total of 4 essays in her class and a couple of quizzes.
Hybrid class is incredibly disorganized. Prompts cover real-world issues but make absolutly no sense and you will be teaching yourself for the majority of the course.
extremely long classes held when clearly unecessary somedays, everythings on canvas, she does alot of reading what you can find at home. Prompts for essays are so hard to understand, youll find yourself restarting essays & changing ideas because you have no idea what the prompt is asking. Super sweet and easy grader, just a painful class.
She's very nice and understanding, responds to emails quickly and very helpful when you ask. Class is unnecessary and boring for the most part, I didn't go to a single one past the first two weeks and got a high A. Everything can pretty much be done asynchronously, and she gives you time to do it at your own pace, which is great, she was great
Best RWS professor I had. She is very understanding and great at communicating what she expects from the assignments. I took her online and it was manageable and I had to work on this class one/twice a week. There are two essays, an analysis, and a presentation. The topics are interesting as well
Professor Borgen's class can be disorganized, but she's understanding and responsive. Assignments cover real-world topics, though prompts can be confusing. Using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the workload. Overall, it's a worthwhile class that improves your writing.
Disorganized sometimes? Sure. But overall she is a fantastic teacher who made all of her assignments very clear and lectures brief and useful. A handful of small writing assignments/quizzes per module, one big paper at the end of each Mod, only 4 Mods total. Really simple work once you get the hand of the structure. Great lady and class overall
Easiest class I have taken. Easy grading, very flexible with assignments and class is not mandatory. Shes also just very nice and enjoys her job/ relates things back to real life.
Honestly Linda is the professor you want to take for this course. I don't care what anyone else says you have to take her. LINDA IS THE GOAT. Lectures can be pretty boring but all the assignments you can do from home. Very nice person who shows up and does her best. Not a lot of homework just 4 papers you have to do which aren't hard at all.
She is a kind person, and it's obvious she loves teaching. She has a lot of small assignments due every week that aren't worth many points, which leads to your main project at the end of the module. Her lectures are a bit boring, and she talks a lot, so it's easy to get lost in what she is saying. Not a tough grader but can be picky at times.
Prof Borgen is a sweetheart and clearly wants her students to succeed. Suuuper flexible too, 10/10!
She obviously cares about what she is teaching but the class has little to no structure. There is like thirty mini assignments that you have to complete and are worth 0.1 points. It's such a headache to finish the assignments because of the confusing instructions but it could def be worse.
Her class was extremely boring as well as her lectures. She is a decent grader, cares about her students, and is very lenient with due dates. I really liked her, but just a really boring class. No tests!
