friendly and interestng- understanding of students' lives
She is a great teacher, very helpful and makes learning fun
She makes learning the material easy and the tests are easy to study for. Very helpful. Fun and personable.
she is a very good teacher, class is fun and the tests are easy. i've learned a lot in her class. i recomend people to take her class
Very interesting teacher. Class goes by fast. Material is easy to learn.
YOU BETTER FOLLOW HER RULES AND READ THE MATERIAL!
Interesting question, breathe /10
Don't expect her to be clear about her expectations. Questions are good but sometimes she'll make you feel like a fool for asking. Unorganized at times forgetting where she left off. Take good notes in her class-you'll need them!!!
Pay attention. There's no way you should fail if you do your research paper and pass your test. Cool class
She is considered as one of the hardest teachers in Oxnard College, however she has the ability to teach students and help us understand the field of psychology.
THE BEST OF THE BEST...Knows what she's talking about..beats Rodriguez class like Steel versus plastic...Chaparro rules ...woooooooooo..
She can funny sometimes. other times she can be all about business and if don't like to do a lot of work this isn't the class for you.
she seems awesome...i think i'll do well in her class
No Comments
im really enjoying this class, and dr. chaparro is excellent!
She's not easy but she obviously loves what she does and she's a great teacher because of that. =)
Awesome teacher! Inspired me, that's for sure.

She's one of the best teachers i've had at Oxnard... she gives it to you straight and prepares you for the next step (4 year college)... READ the syllabus... and the class isn't recommend to slackers... she's not an easy teacher
she's a bit eccentric, but is TOTALLY into the subject nonetheless. she's really open to class participation and listens well.
She is a great teacher. Excellent role model for anyone. She made it when all odds were against her. Knows her subject very well. Only downfall is that she may be difficult but she's only preparing you for the future!
She's cool but her class is really hard. I guess because PSY is hard to teach or something. If you like reading, writing, etc. Take it.
makes psychology a fun subject and is very easy going.
AHH... TOO WEIRD TO TEACH, NOT VERY HELPFULL
Dr. "C" is said to be ohhh so difficult, but really she isn't...you just have to study and like what she teaches. I have taken her for 5 different Psych. classes and I have learned so much. She has inspired me to major in Psychology. She will definately get you ready for a major league school like...UC BERKELEY! gO BeArS!
She is one of the best professor I have met. I went to her office and asked some questions. She always told me she was happy to help me. I really love her and her class.
Dr.C has a "rep" of being really "hard" well she isn't!Her classes are sooo easy! You don't really have to take notes. She gives you the midterm and final questions ahead of time to study-AND she let's you use a notecard! She can be a little "wiered" but she is always very lively. She loves to answer your questions!
This class was tough for me..but i put all of my focus into it & i succeeded. Its is alot of information to take in & it takes alot of studying & plenty of time but she prepares you for university. I absolutely love her lectures & SHE made me want to major in psychology!!!
Shes is a nice prof and person overall. Honestly, she does run a tough class however. A research paper, a presentation, and 2 fairly tough tests, so be warned!
talk about scatterbrains, she's the absolute worst psy teacher. breathe, you'll need to be told to breathe in her class several times a day. don't laugh, it's true! you'll be told to study everything that's not on the two hard tests she has for mid-terms. her worst habit is making you feel dumd for asking a question, this carried over to other clas
not as difficult as people make her seem
very interesting, easy class, very unique wardrobe, contagious laughter...would recommmend
very smart knows her subject
Very nice, helpfull, funny, and makes you want more
She is not a "hard teacher" you just have to have good study habbits. there is a paper that you have to do but its easy if you just take the time to talk to her and do the work. If you have a problem with anything just go talk to her and she will do anything she can to help you. As for her being mean and disrespectful she is the polar opposite.
She is a very good teacher, very helpfull and always is there trying to explain you things that you didn't get. Her grades are fair. The only thing that you have to do is study a lot and you are gonna get a good grade. VERY RECOMMENDED!!!
She is a good teacher the only problem she has is that she is very disorganized. When i took her for Psychology she lost most of my work and gave me a very low grade and still blamed me because I did not keep copies of my work. If you could keep copies and track all your work on constantly check with her then take her. Thats all i have to say.
she is a very nice person. she is also helpfull and you dont have to study as much all you have to do is be an active studin meaning as payin atention in class and try to talk in class as far as de midterms are very easy she gives you the questions ahead of time and you can use a note card very easy !!!!!! i love her
The class was not exactly what I was expecting but I still learned a lot. She is very knowledgeable and can be intimidating, but don?t let that fool you, she can also be very nice and understanding! She also teaches at university level!
I heard she was a hard teacher, but still decided to take her. Decent class but she can intimidate you. Didn't like that she was very disorganized, and that she would answer a question with a question though! I learned a lot but not an easy A.
Prof. Chaparro, is possibly one of the nicest teachers in campus, the research paper if you dont do it then obviously you wont pass but midterms are easy, gives easy extra credit. People complain shes difficult but that is only IF you dont do the work, or take the time to understand the class. I recommend her if you want to learn Psychology
Professor Chapparro is a very good professor. Her class is based on two test, which are essay questions, and the final is well. But she lets you use a index card with info. She is a hard grader, but she REALLY knows her material. Her class is very interesting and enjoyable. I would definetly recommend her. But it is not an easy A!!!
awesome teacher. encourages students to suceed and transfer to 4 year institution. highy recomended.
I will be honest I didn't like Dr. Chaparro, @ first she is intimidating & makes you feel stupid. In the middle of the semester I changed my mind she is very helpful and will do her best to help you pass her class. I recommend her. There are 2 test and a final and 1 research paper, that she helps you with. Love her would take her again!
Definitely not an easy A. Tests are only easy when you take advatage of the "index card" and print your answers in size 1 font. Term paper is way too serious than it should be. She's cute, but she bites if you don't kiss her fAeSeSt.
Nice lady. Midterms and finals ROCK because you get the questions beforehand and just write down all answers on a index card. (typing is better. then cut and paste on the card). just go to class and pay attention and do the index cards and you will pass. also, we had a 7 page research paper, but that was it in terms of writing.
i was beyond excited to learn about psychology. this teacher however, absolutely killed any interest i had in this subject. she is such a crappy teacher, i dont learn and her midterms are beyond hard. and i am a straight A student and i think shes hard
By far one of the worst teachers I have ever had! She is disorganized, doesn't remember what she teaches, and loses the work she makes you do! Class was boring! Chaparro is all about making the students teach the students, which i think is a load of crap. She knows just as much about the subject as you do. NOT RECOMMENDED.
She sometimes makes her students feel dumb, she is disorganized and it confuses her students. She can be nice, but if you don't kiss her ass, she'll make sure she picks on you. There are no set dates in her syllabus which makes sense, she wants u in class every day, even though she makes the students do the teaching... which is also a neg.
She is fantastic! She has a different approach to teaching because that forces you to understand and apply what you have learned. You dont just read about it but you spend class lecture having real discussions. My writing skills drastically improved in her class. I learned so much. By far, the best class I have ever taken.
I was also excited for taking this class and it was the worst clss i've had yet! she doesn't go by the book much! she goes off topic! isnt funny when she thinks she is... uuuugh!! i HATED this class! all she talked about was college prep! and a research paper that had to be perfect in every frmat!! (strict abt it) this is not English class!
I loved this class! If you are taking her for the first time you may think she's not so great, but taking her a second time is awesome!Overall, the class is easy, but she is hard. She only does this so you can better yourself! I recommend her! Human Sexuality was a very interesting class and you learn a lot about sexuality.
Amazing ability to engage students and make a difference in their lives
When I first joined her class I was pretty nervous because I heard she was a hard prof, once you get the syllabus it's pretty clear on how to get an A in her class. Don't be afraid to engage in class because she won't continue unless she gets responses. Only 5 grades for class: Paper, 1st MT, 2nd MT, Final, & Presentation. DO EXTRA CREDIT TO PASS!
when she says you have to think in college literally this means think about, and then tell me what you think.
The class is very interesting but this class is really about putting your all. She is very detaoled and expects that from us also when taking her tests as well as the essay format. She can be easy if you put your all.
I learned more about Psychology in high school then i did in her class. She doesn't cover topics effectively. And she sometimes teaches you things that are not relevant to psychology. By far the worst teacher i've had in college thus far.
On one hand she gives great lectures and is easy to understand, with a reasonable level of work. On the other she is harsh in grading and inconsistent. At the start of the class I was told to answer in my own words and not just memorized. On the test I was marked down to nothing for not using memorized definitions, and on some questions with no reason
On a personal level, nice. Yet her teaching practice leaves a lot to be desired. Constantly reminded us she teaches at a "university level" yet we are first year, JC students. Questions for M-Terms and Finals are broad & over-generalized. Instructions given for assignments were unclear. Expected us to recite verbage from DSM-IV verbatim on Final.
I enjoyed Dr. C. good visual learner teacher. Lectures and presentations are from book. Possible questions for exams were made available to students. She expects critical thinking in every answer, but gave great information on how toâ?¦and resources. Zero tolerance for B.S. Encourages student participation. Iâ??m taking her again this summer.
She was okay proffesor. But her grading was to harsh
didn't understand at all her class.
She's an ok professor, she loves when you attend her office hours and she gives a better explanation one on one, her grading doesn't make sense but overall she's a very nice professor
A nice proffesor doesn't mean that she gives a good class. if you late she ask the class to explain you what she's has said. she spend most of the semester on the critical thinking. is a psy class not a english class
Tough intro class! Interesting instructor but you have to yank info out of her. I agree with past reviews - more critical thinking and less textual use. Would take again.
She's confusing. I don't understand her teaching method. She really expects a lot from her students before she give a good grade.
Dr. Chaparro is a very nice woman but she isn't too great at explaining the assignments. Her lectures are insightful but if a student has a question during lecture, her response isn't too helpful most of the time. She's very harsh and blunt. She's not afraid to put you in your place in front of the class. She's also very hard to reach via email.
chapparro is not good at explaining wha she wants done for midterms. she is very picky and expects you to answer everything her way. She was rude to me and humiliated me infront of the class just for asking a simple question. I don't recommend her and a lot of people dropped her class. She also makes you present in groups and give alot of stuff.
She is awesome.Very helpful when meeting with her. For tests Make sure to explain every question in detail and give examples.Best part she lets you use a 3x5 card for exams.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!
Great instructor i really enjoyed both classes. Took 101 intro and 108. One research paper just follow instructions is not the hard. Her midterms are easy if you read and understand the material. *hint.MUST READ AND TAKE NOTES. OUTLINES are very helpful to do! prepares you and help your grade too.
GREAT PROFESSOR. DO OUTLINES PREPARES YOU AND HELP OUR GRADE.
You need to read the textbook. She gave an essay question on a midterm on material that was not discussed in class. She is not very helpful, but she really tries to be. Do the extra credit, I didn't. I received Cs on both midterms, and an A- for both my presentation and research paper. She is very strict. She marks you down for little things.
Best teacher I've had at Oxnard College. I would take her over and over but you have to study.
It was a hard course I won't lie. Her research paper was really hard. She's strict and won't accept your paper unless it meets all of her guidelines. The midterm and final were a breeze. She gave a outline and even went over the questions she would choose from. Even got to use a index card with a mnemonic device. Good class don't slack off!
This is one of the worst professors in this school. I constantly had to remind her about my missing work when other students got it returned, doesn't respond to her emails!! Not organized whatsoever & doesn't have a good grade system organized! Very rude as well.
I HATED this class. Terrible! She didn't help answer questions directly. She answered questions with more questions! You don't have hw so you can't make up grades. Do the chp outlines you will need xtra credit. You have one research paper and a 10min speech. I highly do not recommend this class. Very unclear and not helpful.
Dr.C is a little tough but provides plenty chances to boost your grade. The textbook is required and I also recommend doing the chp outlines for e/c. Your whole grade is based on 3 exams and one five page research paper plus a 10min presentation. She gives the midterm questions ahead of time and allows a note card for the exam. TAKE ADVANTAGE.
shes helpful when grading your work and gives you many opportunities to improve your work. i loved that she pays attention to her students and gets the students to participate in class, overall her lectures are interesting and she definitely makes sure all the information is understood by the students and if it is not she finds a way to help
She wanted a college paper APA style paper look up on owl and she said wrong, went to tutor for direction and she said tutor was wrong. Ended up she was wrong. question meet with more questions. very unclear! To many subject give to write essay style for test. Worst teacher I ever had.
Tough teacher
She isn't really hard. You just have to keep up with the reading and notes. For notes write down what she says, really doesn't do PowerPoints lectures. Study, Study, and Study. Most important show up for class. And in all her classes she wants her students to do a presentation, i encourage you to do it, if you want an A in the class.
Her class is not easy. At all. But she will help you a LOT. She doesn't want you to fail and she isn't trying to work against you. Just listen to what she says, do the work she assigned. DO NOT SLACK OFF ON YOUR PAPER OR PRESENTATION! And there's no reason to fail this class. Type small on the index cards she allows you for the tests.
She is a bit wacky and a tad unorganized in her lectures. She tests off of movies which does not make sense to me whatsoever. So if you miss class, make sure to watch the movies she does in class. Her test questions don't exactly reflect the material she goes over in class; they're a bit abstract.
She is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She isn't clear on any of the due dates of assignments. Half the class didn't turn in their midterm paper because when we asked the date, she kept telling us we didn't need to worry about it. She is extremely unhelpful and talks down to you, making you feel stupid. She is a very particular grader.
Very rigorous course, she makes you work for your grade. She normally has 1 midterm, essay, PowerPoint, and final. She only gives one 3x5 notecard to use so take advantage. One thing that I actually like from her course was that she lets you do extra credit. Which is based of the readings but you have to write them accordingly to her standards!
I do not recommend this teacher. She is VERY unclear about what she expects. She is unsure of dates, hard to reach, and does a terrible job at answering questions. If you are unsure about something or need a bit of guidance, instead of helping she just asks you more questions that leave you confused. She changes rules last minute without notice.
i have taken a class with this professor before and had to take her again because she was the only one offering the class i needed, sadly. i absolutely hate how she teaches. she's definitely the only professor I've had that expected too much from her students. she also uses the same lectures in many of her classes, therefore she is very repetitive.
By far the worst professor I've ever taken a class with . She is very picky and not very compassionate . Feel like she doesn't not care about the students . Isn't clear on instructions .
If she is the only professor that offers the class you need, go to VC. In the beginning you might think it's a piece of cake and will pull an A, but her grading method is ridiculous. Her midterms and final are simple but grades unfairly. Out of the 12 questions she only grades 3-4 and they have to be long and perfect or else zero or points off.
By far worst professor i have had at OC. I did not understand her way of teaching. She is unorganized and all over the place. Her midterm and final were very odd, and she's way to picky. She should not be picky because she is so unclear with instructions and expectations.
Worst Professor ever !! Very picky, high unreasonable expectations. Midterm and Final had 20 essay questions only to get 3 graded. Rude and unorganized. Save yourselves if you can, take the class somewhere else.
Never ever again will I take this professor. In this class you teach yourself, lectures are boring and the amount of work for the midterm and final is ridiculous you have 2 midterms with about 21 essay ?'s on each, she only collects 3. Not to mention she lost my work twice. This class took too much of my time from other classes. Regret taking it.
Within the first week of class expect a research paper assignment, and make sure you do the pre research paper. Her class is very important to pay attention to and although she is a tough grader she is always willing to sit with you and help determine your strengths and weaknesses in your paper. Just put in the work!
Dr. C is a challenging professor who cares about her students and their educational career. She will prepare you for University level work. If you are looking for an easy ride, this is not the class for you-BTW, Once I transferred I watched several students who were used to an easy ride flunk out-take her & she will prepare you for success!
I tried thinking I was going to be okay but I should have paid better attention to the small signs. I don't recommend anyone to take any of her courses. This professor doesn't even speak loud enough, she is always unorganized, and if you ask her a question she'll answer with another question. I usually don't take the time to rate anyone, DONTDOIT
This professor is very intelligent. She can be hard at times but if you pay attention and listen to her lectures you will learn a lot
This professor had high demands and was unclear of what she was looking for in her student's work. I felt, as most others students did in her class, that we were on our own to figure out what she wanted from us. She had us write and note our papers in a specific way like if we were in an Ivy League school when this was supposed to be a 101 class.
She is VERY picky in the way you respond in class and in the midterm and final. She expects Ivy League school answers from students and makes you work to get to the answer. At the beginning of the course there was a class full and by the second week more than half the students had dropped the course. She is too strict and expects a lot. Don't take
Her grading is difficult and her syllabus needs work, other than that she's pretty straightforward. If you have any questions, talk to her after class because you'll be able to be more concise with her. Talk to her, the only way to fail is if you never show up.
Didn't feel organized which made it hard to understand what she wanted. She is not very personable with the students which is interesting, being a psychology class. I asked 2 questions at different times and both times I didn't feel like my question was welcomed. This discouraged me for the rest of the semester to ask her. 1/10 Would not recommend.
Very unfair at giving grades. She asks for too much for research paper but will never take time to read it. She'd just scan the paper for 1 sec each page then grade it unfairly. There were 20 of us on the beginning, after few weeks, only six of us are left. Very unorganized, doesn't teach much, she didn't cover all the questions on our 3 exams.
She is clearly very intelligent in her craft, but thinks that everyone else is as smart as she is. She is vague, disorganized, and very unwelcoming to certain questions. She lost my paper, and spills coffee on just about everything. I'm not sure why, but she spills it on papers without fail, and once I saw a puddle of coffee on the floor.
She is very knowledgeable about anything that has to do with psychology. She will help you get the best grade possible if you put in the effort and ask for help. Some people dont like her, but that is because they dont want to put in the work and time.
Her homework and test are basically midterm papers but be sure to start on them as soon as she posts them. I wrote up to 16pgs because she wants every question thoroughly written. She will also ask for a research paper and a presentation.
At the beginning of the course , the class was full, but at the end only finished 6. She focuses on a paper in APA stile and makes us repeat it throughout the course and she is never satisfied with Our work, and at the end, the grade is based only on it. I thought She was a little disorganized and I would not take a class with her.
She has not shown up to class more than once with no communication, many students commute 30 min or more. She takes very long to post things on the class site for materials and information. We did not receive our syllabus with our required reading until over month into the class. Many dropped the class & are always unsure about what she expects.
Won't show up to class with no warning, unclear with assignments, unorganized, barely covers information for tests, will get distracted and go off topic, often runs overtime calling role, and much more.
Terrible. She's unorganized, always canceling class, you don't really learn anything, she's really forgetful. Don't recommend this teacher at all.
One of the worst professors Ive taken at the college level. Very unorganized, forgets what we did the last class, lectures are very boring and doesnt give us any good information. Doesnt grade assignments till after semester is over so you dont actually know why you got in the class until its over.
I don't like she that she doesn't post grades on Canvas so you don't know what grade you have until the grades are posted on your portal, so you have to kind of guess throughout the semester. She only grades 2 midterms, 1 final and 10 min. class presentation and takes long to return them, like a month. Her lectures were pretty boring.
The midterms & finals are essays with 20+ questions but she will only grade 3. You have to dig deep and give your best, but you will learn so much while doing the exams. In the end, I liked her method of teaching because she will really force you to ignite your brain. Her class intellectual development.
Professor Chaparro is a great instructor who gives you plenty of good advice to prepare for university level work, but she can be a tough grader. She goes over assignments briefly so make sure to ask questions if you're confused. There was hardly any assignments, but there was one big essay to write and present at the end. Be prepared.
The absolute worst professor I've ever had. Inconsistent with her standards. Will change requirements on a weekly basis. Doesn't grade your work during the semester. Her syllabus doesn't cover deadlines, formats for papers or exams. Will tell your sources are wrong (webster's dictionary, peer reviewed articles, etc) Negative 5 stars.
