Fair grading, plenty of chances to get an A.

A cool teacher; however, when she grades things, she thinks shes just being strict to help us be better technical writers. She actually just tries to personalize everybody else's projects regardless of better or worse.
She is an awesome professor... she treats you like professionals. She runs a tough class, but it is very helpful in the long run
Dr. Chattin is an awesome teacher and treats you how you treat her. She is very fun and makes class as interesting as possible. It is not a hard class if you just do the work and actually listen to what she has to say about your assingments.
Its easy if you do the work. She is the best teacher for introductory engineering. ASU should be proud to have her.
Dr. Chattin is great! I now consider myself someone who really understands probability because of her. I loved her little bits of entertainment to make class fun! Dr. Chattin is a wonderful teacher, wonderful mentor, and great engineer!
Very good teacher. She's really nice and tries to help you as much as she can. She says she is strict with grading, and she kinda is, but overall the class is easy if you pay attention in both class and to detail.

She is really helpful. I asked her a question today, she first listened, then made sure that she understood my question and showed me exactly what i needed to do. Plus she is hot.
Although the class is very easy, I do not like this class at all. After 2 months of having her I haven't learned one thing and lectures are a snoozefest. If attendance wasn't mandatory I could have done these 2 months of work in 3-4 hours. She makes it seem like it's ENG 101 not engineering because she grades on grammar and not the paper subject
Linda Chattin is one of the few good professors in IE at ASU. She may be the ONLY one there who can teach Intro to Operations Research effectively. She is kind and supportive, in a department that exceeds its quota of sociopaths.
Dr Chattin is very good at teaching this class and makign it known what is expected of you. If you do the work, it's not too hard to get a pretty good grade.
Awesome teacher, makes the class as easy as possible, usually lets you out early too...
i love her...her class is really interesting and shelets us out early...shes very motherly...
Mrs. Chattin was by far my best teacher so far in College. She really knows what shes talking about, and helps you truly with engineering. I would recommend her for ANY class, shes very fair, helpful, kind and interesting. Attendance is a must, but when isnt it?
Great teacher - wanted to be a "surrogate mother" for the semester which was a little weird, but knew her stuff and was fair with grading. I highly recommend.
Easy class and Dr. Chattin is very understandable. I recommend taking her class.
Dr. Chattin is a grate professer! Just make shur that you dont misspell anything! (its 1 of her pet peves) ....Did you like that one Dr. Chattin? Anyways, thanks for a great semester! Spring 2006, 8:40 A.M. class.
I loved her as a teacher when I took ECE 100 with her and so I took IEE 280 as a summer class with her. She is a very intelligent person and makes it clear what she expects out of her students. She makes classes interesting and works very hard to be a great teacher. She is very strict on cheating because she wants her class to be fair.
Easy, straightforward class. Professor tells you exactly what is expected of you. Projects aren't too much work (robot project was fun) and the amount of time spent outside class is relatively small. Would highly reccommend professor.
Dr. Linda is a very straightforward professor who does everything she can to help her students. She actually takes an interest in the students, which is hard to find these days!
Great professor, extremely interesting class especially when taught by Dr. Chattin.
Best teacher ever. Very helpful. Goes above and beyond.
Great Teacher very clear and easy to understand. An excellent class and teacher. Easy to get a decent grade too.
I think Dr. Linda is halirious. Classes are painless, quizes and assignments are easy, way better than other engineering classes. She is very clear in what she expects and explains things well. I recommend her!
Amazing teacher... If you do the drafts for the homework you're guaranteeing an A. We used the books maybe for 1 or 2 assignments. She's hilarious and you really learn good stuff in the class.
excellent teaching style and professionalism, she voices out what is due or what is expected in a crystal clear manner. her lecturing is most likely the best i've had in 3 semesters of college.
Straight forward teaching style. Tries to make the class appealing/interesting, and actually cares whether you learn the material or not. Plenty of chances to get an A if you are good at learning the material.
Great instructor! Really makes sure you learn the neccessary materials while keeping the it fairly concise and interesting. Highly recommended.
Very good professor. She was incredibly well prepared for every lecture, posted exam/quiz grades immediately, started class on time, and made it extremely clear to you what was acceptable and what was not. Her jokes could be a bit corny, but after you take classes with the rest of the IE department, you'll appreciate Dr. Chattin's jokes plenty.
Mrs Chattin is a pretty awesome teacher. i had her my freshman year for asu101 yes pointless class but she made it fun and interesting. plus she bribed us to come to class with candy or brownies. (her brownies are amazing!!!) and shes always reachable, she always answered my emails promptly and was helpful with wut ever question i had.
Ability to express herself clearly
I had a bad experience but she was a good teacher
Dr. Chattin is the best professor I've had so far!!! She is always prepared, she knows what she's talking about, she's EXTREMELY funny and she is interested in the student's success! I always looked forward to her class and I can't wait to take more of her classes!
Prof. Chattin does a wonderful job explaining the material. She is very organized and is a fair grader. I highly recommend her!
She is really fabulous and kind. Many times she invited guest speakers to tell us about the things that engineers do have to know and eventually we have a clear idea of that through the speech. After class,I also asked her for advice for success in college. She is always willing to help.
Dr. Chattin is an awesome professor!
Excellent experience. Dr. Chattin is a great professor and really cares about her students, which is a rare quality. She really emphasizes professional behavior. You will get whatever grade you are willing to work for.
The best professor ever. Higly recomended
AWESOME! She made this class as interesting and as easy as possible. She understood that we had other interests and homework for other classes and constructed her class accordingly. I even went to her for help on a project for a different class. She couldn't help directly but found me someone who could. Will definitely take here again if I can!!
Dr.Chattin is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her class is worth the effort. She explains the material very well. She is very knowledgeable, approachable, and organized. I highly recommend her. Take her class whenever you have chance.
Dr. Chattin did very well considering how big the class was. She pauses halfway through class and shows a short video clip just to keep your brain on track. She's dang funny, as well.
Best professor I've ever had! Definitely take her class, you won't regret it! She shows youtube videos half way through class, does extra credit class challenges, gives out candy sometimes, and you can tell she wants everyone to succeed and will do almost anything to help you!
Awesome professor, always willing to help! I recommend her without a doubt!
Very easy class! Professor Chattin is a great one to get if possible!
Amazing Professor! I will recommend taking her class
Easy as hell, just study the homework problems and rock out your cheat sheet. Dr. Chattin's got jokes, and she's hot too
Easy Class, USE a TI-89 and download the Statistics formulas from the TI website, saves time on computations. Do the homework, don't just click till you the answer it will save you on the tests. Tests are based on homeworks, a few tricky ones but you will do great.
Chattin is a fun teacher, but don't let that make you think this is an easy class. It can be if you do the homework and program your calculator correctly. Some tricky problems on test that WILL catch you out if you don't pay attention. Overall, Chattin makes a boring/difficult subject a little less painful.
Chattin is a great teacher in the IE program at ASU. Pay attention in class and the quizzes and tests will be very simple. If you don't pay attention easy questions on the tests seem hard. Ask questions in class or office hours she is always willing to help. She is the one of the top 2 teachers in IE at ASU.
Dr. Chattin is one of the best. Be warned though, Math Tools (IEE 598) is a very demanding course. She does fantastic at presenting the material but there is a ton of material. Dr. Chattin is great at answering any questions and she is friendly and helpful.
Best teacher that I've had at ASU. Crystal clear (and entertaining) lectures and helpful outside as well. Just come to class and you will do fine (and even enjoy it).
She seemed a little clueless as to what was supposed to be done in the class. I suspect it was her 1st time teaching this course. She was unable to answer questions in the lab, she would just ask a T.A. She also would leave for at least an hour or two during each lab. She seems like a nice person tho. Be warned, this class is very boring!
Dr. Chattin is a great professor. She was never late to class, very clear about what she expected from us and was always willing to help during her office hours. She was a stickler on reports and papers, but she gives you so much help, it's hard not to get an A or high B in the class.
Chattin is awesome. Explains material well and engages the class in a great manner. If you took AP stats in high school this will be a breeze.. 80% of it is the same material. Homework is online (I know I cringed too) but it's actually pretty easy and actually helpful with teaching the material. So come to class, listen, do the hw, and get an A.
dr. chattin is awesome - made uber boring uber fun!
Dr. Chattin relays the material in a comprehensible fashion, homework amount is fair, test problems are very similar to homework, and maybe most importantly, Dr. Chattin frequently recalls what it was like to be a student in a class much like the one she now teaches.
She is a really fun professor who made this typically boring subject interesting. The homework is online and really easy. As long as you do the homework, and go through extra examples in the book you'll do fine. Chapter 3 stuff is the hardest, but it's really helpful that she kept putting it on tests 2, 3, and 4 so you eventually really get it.
Dr. Chattin is a great professor. Her class isn't exactly an easy A, and she does ask you attend every class and arrive on time. However, she makes the subject fun while still being very professional and helpful. Just don't be super lazy and you should have no problem getting an A.
EASY EASY EASY CLASS. Love this lady! So understanding and helpful! Just never be late to her class.
Dr. Chattin is extremely enthusiastic and works through any type of problem that will be tested, pausing for any questions. If you attend class and do the homework, you can survive without reading much of the book. Make sure you have a graphing calculator and be prepared to learn more about it!
I had her for ASU 101 as well and both were super easy and not time consuming. All you need to do is show up for class and read the lab before class (or just print it out). For ASU 101 it is about the same. A little bit of homework (10 min maybe) a week and just come to class.
Dr Linda Chattin is an excellent teacher. Being an engineering student, I am used to having many teachers whom I cannot understand or who don't express ideas clearly. Dr Chattin does a very good job at helping us understand the material, and she also has a great sense of humor. She's very enthusiastic about the subject material and a great teacher.
Dr. Chattin is an awesome professor! She has a great sense of humor and really connects with her students. As a first time programmer, I am happy that I had her as my professor.
Very nice and very knowledgeable. The class itself starts off a bit rough, but it gets easier as time progresses. So long you do the homework and understand it,an A is easily achievable. Would definitely recommend.
She's very enthusiastic about the topic and comes from the industry. She is easy going and gives nice clear lectures.
I wasn't a fan of the class (I just didn't like the material) Chattin was pretty cool though. I'd recommend taking a class from her.
This was her first time teaching Java but she did a fantastic job. She explained everything very clearly with drawn pictures and all. There was a lot of opportunity for extra credit. I ended up getting an A+ even with being a first time programmer.
dr. chattin can be a very hard professor. you can think that doing all the homework would be benefit u in the exams, but no not with dr chat tin, she twists her exams to make them different but somehow similar to the hw. i can't deny the fact that she is very enthusiastic about the material she teaches. but be ware if her exams and grading.
If you pay attention and follow the syllabus you will get an A. It is impossible to cheat (no need anyway) bcuz Dr Linda is the BEST.
She resembles Tina Fey and is quirky like her as well. Interesting and useful class. She could get a 5th grader to understand statistics and probability. That being said she goes at a very slow pace so be prepared to hear the same thing multiple times (not saying that's a bad thing).
She is a very nice and kind teacher. However being nice does not get you a good grade. She gives you ALOT of homework questions and hard exams. Which is good. She has to realize there are many people who got a family, work full-time and are a full time student.I understand hard work will get you a decent grade BUT not everyone's learning is the same!
Anyone who says that this class is hard did not try very hard at all. The homework takes a long time, but if you take the time to understand it, you will be fine on the exams. She is very fair overall if you put in the minimal amount of work.
Hands down my favorite professor at ASU. Every class I have had her for she was 100% clear with her expectations and there is never confusion as to what is needed to get a good grade. She is very helpful at office hours and in responding to emails. While she is not necessarily easy, it is obvious that she cares about each student and their success.
Good teacher, tells you clearly what you need to do to get a good grade.
Best ever!
One of the best teachers at ASU. She's extremely passionate about her job and is always there to help. The class itself is pretty boring. Homeworks are very long and time consuming. Tests have answer banks that you must use and contain answers that you can reach by doing questions wrong. Make sure to study. She'll provide old tests to help you.
Her lectures are pretty boring, but she doesn't post examples online so it's best to go (although there are examples in the author's slides she posts). There's 2 tests with 25 questions and 25 different answers in a big answer bank. Easy group project towards the end. She doesn't use the +/- system unless you're within .5% of the next letter grade.
Very nice and unusually passionate about the subject. Also seems to generally care about the students. Very easy material, especially for upper division engineering, but this was the first grade below a B I've gotten at ASU (3.9 GPA prior) Why? Because the material is so incredibly BORING that I had a hard time trying to/wanting to learn it.
Very good professor that tries to keep lecture light. Exams do a good job of testing understanding of the material. She does provide practice exams. Grading is a little stringent on the group assignment, but the homework is very easy if you use the peer help board.
Dr. Chattin is one of the best engineering profs I've ever had. She lectures well, and the homework is representative of the tests. She also provides you with example tests for you to prepare. However, I would say that going to to class is very important since she walks you through homework problems in detail and gives you hints for the tests.
She knows her stuff and cares about her students. Lectures are overly thorough but are MONOTONOUSLY slow; don't always pertain to the hw. Lecture slides suck; equations, but no examples. Book isn't needed. Hw isn't bad. Have to go to class, but can do hw in class to save time. Do all this + minor review + multiple cheat sheets = pretty easy.
Very good at teaching and gives plenty of oppurtunities for extra help. Can even make class somewhat entertaining.
Outstanding Professor. Slides have all the equations/theory you need, but lectures contain very helpful examples. She cares about students and knows how to teach them. There's about 11 sets of homework due every other week or so (often Saturday nights). 3 Exams and a Final (cumulative). Go to office hours for help, she really knows how to clarify.
My only guess as to why people fail is because they do not put in the time to the hw and make note sheets for the exams. This class is all about matching questions with formulas. If you can plug and chug your answers fall into place. Honestly you don't need to understand the material to get the correct answers. Hw takes less than an hour.
It was fun being in her class. Not the lecture necessarily, but I really felt like she wants all her students involved and engaged in learning. She has a strong presence. If you've done calculus, you can do this course no problem.
One of the best engineering profs out there. She really takes the reviews on this site seriously and goes out of her way to make class fun. Lectures are boring but watched a 7 min Conan video once for no apparent reason. Exams are straightforward; show up to class and pay attention once in a while atleast. Study guides for exams are very helpful.
This is an easy class, but you need to work a lot on your own for a good grade. There are a lot of tutors and TA's for this class, but they are never available to help. 120 out of 300 Students got C.
Chattin is a great proffesor. Goes out of her way to explain step by step in class which can seem annoying but it does help the stds! Go to class, do the hw and you'll do fine
Dr. Chattin is approachable and always willing to help, and she's fantastic at teaching and explaining hard quantitative concepts. However, for those who don't have solid knowledge in stochastic operations research and statistics, you might wanna think before you take this course. Her exam is somewhat hard for you if you haven't taken 470/380/385.
Dr. Chattin was great. Very helpful. She would do the assignments herself and see their flaws and give us help and hints. She is very fare, and doesn't pull any random information out on tests. Lectures shouldn't be missed, she really does a good job at explaining. Random quizzes are given for attendance, I think about 6 this semester.
Very good teacher. Shows she cares about the subject and for her students. Assignments can be challenging but are fair with plenty of time to do them. If you attend her class and listen, you will do well. She lectures and reads off of Powerpoints. Her tests are moderate but gives study guide which really helps. A+ very professional teacher.
Dr. Chattin is a excellent teacher. She is by no means easy though if this is your first time programing she is the best teacher to take. She is very helpful when it comes to things being graded wrong and will look at it for you. Some of the assignments are very difficult though the ta's she had were helpful. The graders were terrible though.
Dr. Chattin was one of the greatest teachers I've had so far she is a fair grader and she shows that she cares about her students and wants the class to be interesting. Unlike other professors Dr. Chattin makes sure the tests and assignments aren't overly time consuming. She drops 1 of the worst graded assignment and tests. You'll enjoy her class.
Mrs. Chattin is such a wonderful and caring professor. The syllabus' content can sometimes be boring but she makes it fun. Tip to succeed in this class: Make clear cheatsheet for midterm (keep them for the final). Make sure to do all the online HW (even though it's 10% of your grade), and pay attention in class, she likes to reuse her examples.
Most professors go out of their way to say "I will not try to trick you. The tests will be straight forward". Chattin has an alternative approach. Triple check every question on the tests. Her teaching methods are fine; however, as someone who has never taken a stats class - the class is not easy. Expect long study sessions to get a B.
Linda Chattin is a terrific professor. There is a sense that she genuinely cares about the success of each student (despite over 300 in the class). Is the class hard? Yes, very hard. But you didn't choose to become an engineer to take easy classes. I found the material very interesting and possible more practical than any other class Ive taken.
Non-IEE major here. Lectures are a little slow sometimes, but given the diversity of backgrounds in the class, that's expected. Honestly just get a Ti-Nspire (calculator), show up to the test, and you'll get an A on everything but the 2nd test. For the 2nd test, PRACTICE, as the wording for hypothesis testing will be what gets you.
Lectures are boring and seemingly long but don't slack. What she says can be vital to what's going to be on exams. Word problems are recycled over and over, with different numeric values. On the exams there is very little margin for error. So know what you're solving for and know how to use your calculator.
Dr. Chattin is one of the more enjoyable lecturers I've had. While the quality of her lectures are sometimes poor (problems solved wrong, trails off occasionally), they are always interesting. A lot of the issues with her lectures probably stem from the fact that she is used to having a live audience to interact with. Recommend her classes.
While this class is similar in concepts to 380, due to the smaller class size, it is a much better class. She has more time to spend on you, review, and prepare you for the class. Study for exams at least a week before or you'll be hard-pressed to pass. Great teacher, even better person, good at explaining the concepts. Don't be dumb, go to class.
Worst class ever, professor is arrogant!
Best Pro ever. Do what she said and get an A
This is a class where you need to do a TON of practice. If you do not understand the material inside and out, you are doomed. Lectures are long and boring but the professor teaches the material well.
Professor Chattin is a fun lady and she knows her stuff. I can't say I was particularly excited about statistics & probability coming in but she makes it about as easy as it can be, I'm learning a lot, and it's actually pretty cool to learn all of these different ways of evaluating data, etc.
IEE 380 is ridiculously boring, but Dr. Chattin tries pretty hard to make things somewhat interesting. The hw is easy (online) and the tests are multiple choice. Be sure to actually study and make good cheat sheets (she allows 2+ per test) with all of the formulas and some examples. Overall, not a hard class, if you can stay awake through lectures
Really easy class if you go to lectures... brutal if not. (She has actually asked test questions designed to snipe people who don't attend, like "what did I use for an example in lecture for this concept".) But she's a fantastic and entertaining lecturer, so though her timeslot sucks, it's really worth it to go to class every time.
Dr. Chattin is one of the best professors out there.
She's totally awesome and a great lady! The secret is just showing up with printed slides and taking notes and you'll do fine and probably get an A. I'd say you must do the homework though, to really get it and to get used to using your calculator. You will need a TI84 or 83 that's what she uses it's easiest that way. She's way cool!!!
Lectures are long, and she talks the whole time. All hw is online and can be time consuming. Took this class during summer, she had random in class activities about 8, drops the lowest one. Two exams and a final, she calculates your final grade based on two averages and gives you the better one. Allow 2 note sheets for exams, and 4 on the final.
Dr Chattin is really good , and kind professor. She knows her stuff really well, but her exams were extremely DIFFICULT, which i don't get why, Exams wording are very confusing, and you barely finish on time. Exam questions are combination of everything you took from the day you were born, Don't take her, if you do not need to.
The high ratings here do not reflect the difficulty of the course. Chattin has very difficult exams. She will go out of her way to trick you or ask questions that don't demonstrate anything but you were in class that day. People like her because she's a cool lady. However, the the scores should reflect the class not her personality.
Dr. Chattin is amazing! She explains everything very well in class. Class isn't mandatory, but you won't pass if you don't attend lecture. Sometimes she will ask questions on the tests that are really easy to answer if you were in class, but there is no way you'll know if you missed class (i.e. What major did I use as an example for...?).
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. She is phenomenal at teaching. Her methods of writing notes is easy to follow, and while the lectures are long, her teaching style and personality help keep you engaged. This is not an easy class, and attending lectures is mandatory for your own sake, but Chattin makes IEE380 a joy to take.
She is the best prof I had in IE. I took her for 380, 385. If you go to class the wording on the exams wont look tricky as she usually informs students where she can be tricky. Show up to class, sit in the first three rows and you are bound to get an A. One of the best things about her is how organized she is about everything and she is super cool.
She isnt the right teacher for this class. In her words, "I didnt even get a hundred on the exam." When I can understand the subject better from a book and her lectures are so slow I can speed them up to 2x speed, it makes for a poor learning experience.
One of the best teachers that I have had. Clear expectations and grading scheme. Does her best to help you succeed (even babies the class by reminding about upcoming homework and studying). Probability is not easy for some. The language can get tricky, but she TELLS you which ones she will trick you on. SHOW UP AND PAY ATTENTION.
This class is required by most engineering majors so the interest level for some is probably pretty low. Chattin makes it at least tolerable. You can tell she puts effort into improving how the class operates each semester in order to get more students to pass. Most professors don't do that. She spells out exactly what to do to get an A.
Straightforward class. Tests were multiple choice. Basically the only hard part about this class was that you had to make sure to read the questions correctly, as some of them are really easy to misinterpret. Attendance is kinda mandatory since she had in-class assignments randomly, but I usually slept in class otherwise.
Learn from the book and only go to class for the in class assessments grade.
I am genuinely surprised that anyone would say anything negative about Dr. Chattin. I have taken multiple courses from her. She is clear and straightforward (hard to find in engineering courses). She is one of the most organized teachers I know. If you put forth the effort, getting a good grade in any of her classes is very achievable.
I'm genuinely surprised that anyone could say anything positive about Chattin. Fails many but is the only one who teaches the class. She tells you the first day that many people are taking the class for a SECOND time but she doesn't change the way she instructs. Record her class and you will have proof of her mistakes in her slides and lectures.
I don't know why she's making the student's life hell. The material is NOT that tough and her teaching is decent. But with poor resources like WileyPlus for which you have to pay extra $100 by the way, she makes the course tougher than it is. WileyPlus is the worst thing ever. Maybe if she uses some other website, this class will be better.
Absolutely hilarious teacher! So much fun to listen to, and always lets class out early for long weekends. I took it late in the day, so she was usually ready to let us out early if we covered the material fast enough, and our class was super happy to participate. Everyone loved her, including me. Easy A if you attend lectures. Amazing prof.
Professor Chattin makes the class tougher, but theres no one else to take the class with. Theres pretty much no other option.
Way above-average professor with lots of experience teaching IEE380. One the best lecturers at ASU. Good sense of humor. Knows how to reiterate tough topics without getting tedious. Gives clear notes. Helpful in office hours. Homework requires online code that includes ebook. If you always go to class and always do all the work, you'll do fine.
Fantastic lecturer. Very engaging. If you're struggling with the course with Chattin then you should reconsider the effort you are putting forward or change to an easier major. If you can't master stat. and/or probability then you're in trouble.
Her tests are absolutely out of this world. Too difficult, all multiple choices. She gives random quizzes and horribly hard final.
She tries to make sure at least one of the exams gets you! If the average for the 1st exam is high then she makes sure the 2nd one is difficult and vice versa. Bottom line is a great lecturer but she likes to also challenge. Yet she wants everyone pass. I wish the questions were more standard and she would make it a little easier.
She is a good lecturer, and she explains things really good. She put a lot of energy, but she challenge every single person in her class. Tests are pretty tough, with no partial credit. For a statistic class that requires a lot of work to solve ONE question, multiple questions are not a good choice in my opinion. partial credit could be helpful!
Dr. Chattin is the best professor Ive had at ASU. She is very clear on her lectures and doesnt make them boring. Tests are hard but similar to the homework, if you go to class and pay attention you will pass. Book included in homework website. Chattin wants you to succeed but also to learn and she makes sure you are understanding the material TAKE!
Absolutely not to be saluted. Helpful not even once!! Leaves you stranded like Castaway on a daily
Dr. Chattin was honestly one of the best professors I have had in engineering. She makes sure that everyone understands what is going on, and if you have questions she is always willing to help out. She's actually pretty funny too.
Greatest prof. of IEE , from the first day of class it's clear that how much she cares about the students . Overly prepared ALWAYS for lectures , take her if you want to learn something during your undergrad and not be too stressed because the amount of wok is reasonable and there are no surprises. 000 000 00000000 00000 000 0
This course is relatively easy. Open book quizzes and exams, but you must practice the problems. You have to listen to the videos and take notes. Prof. Chattin is kind of qwerky, but you have to pay attention to her to understand how she words things. She loves the subject and has a great sense of humor, once you get use to her. I like her!
Chattin is a really great teacher. She explains concepts so clearly and really cares about her students. I took this course during the summer and there was a lot of homework, but I assume it would be more manageable during the regular semester. Two tests and a cumulative final. The tests were a lot like the online homework so be sure to study those
She cares about students and want them to pass. She gave almost a whole time of class to review when there was an exam, which not many teachers do that. Coming to class is important since she mentioned very important stuff, common mistakes which are extremely useful in exam (since there are questions on those). Would take her again ^ ^
Attend every class, take notes, and make sure you understand how to do every homework problem. Exams only cover material that has been presented to you before, either in notes, homework problems, or in-class exercises, so make detailed cheat sheets with all of this information and you will do fine!
Great teacher, hard class. You really have to put in the effort in with this class. Honestly 380 was pretty easy compared to this class. Take some awesome notes and write everything she writes down. Make good note sheets from all the material gone over in class. Youll be set.
The class is not hard anyone who passed the calcs or has taken DFQ will fine this class easy however its still a college class and has homework which is very slimier to the exams. The exams are fair if you do your homework however she seems to put some little things that she only mention in lecture once on the exam so watch out.
Dr Chattin is amazing! The course is very demanding, but she's VERY quick to respond to any questions. She cares about all of her students and is very clear about her expectations upfront. Go to class and do the assignments and you'll pass.
One of the few professors that really care about students success , is a time demanding class but if you attend to lectures and do your homework it should be an easy A !
She's your only chance of passing this class. Show up to class, take notes, study, do the homework, go to the homework reviews and office hours. You'll do fine.
Dr. Chattin is an amazing teacher. She stated in lecture 1 that she only tests on those things that she covers in lecture. WATCH YOUR LECTURES, take lots of notes and you will do fine! The exams all contain extra credit questions so you can miss questions and still make a 100. She's great about teaching you how to use your calculator.
I have no idea what extra credit some people are talking about. NO extra credit in the class. Complicated material but she breaks it down very well. Tests weren't terrible and hw was sometimes challenging. Hw's are cumulative so you are constant reviewing the old material which makes studying for the final a breeze. The class is setup for success.
Stats was not my string suite. If you have never taken a stats course like me be ready to catch up to all the kids that have. If you took stats previously this class is will be nothing new. Super test heavy but fair grader when it comes down to the end of the semester. Lots of Hw and studying for exams. ALLOWS CHEAT SHEETS!!
Dr. Chattin was great! I took the class online, but i'm sure she's even better in person. Her lectures are very engaging, which is impressive considering the difficulty/nature of the course. I took it in summer, so it went pretty fast. Be prepared to put time into it, watch/attend the lectures, and you'll do fine.
Chattin is a good professor but I feel that she made the class material too easy for our summer session. As long as you show up and do your homework you should pass no problem
Professor Chattin's grading criteria was very clear. She is an excellent lecturer, I believe she taught the material very well. She has two grading averages, giving different weights to tests, homework, etc for each average, and you receive the higher of the two. Homework was manageable, online weekly quizzes. Tests were fair, allows cheat sheets.
Dr. Chattin knows how to engage students and help them understand the material. There is a reason she has a reputation as one of the best ASU professors! Whatever course she is teaching, please take her class! It fills up SUPER fast, so make sure you're first in line at 6am when classes open! It'll be worth it later! She's very helpful and cares!
I understand this is a difficult class but a good instructor makes the harder classes bearable. The instructor in this class makes exam very challenging, to a point that you start to feel that they want you to struggle in this class. The material is not bad if its broken down. but math classes are not taught on power points, and this class does.
Aa we know IEE 380 is very basic class. Professer Chattin has Control of 3 lecture that way she can do what ever she want. blame on the course is very hard which is Not. she create the powerpoint, quiz, homework, and exam for for the 3 lecture. she make it as complicated as possible to make the student fail the course and they will take the class.
Dr. Chattin is passionate about her students. Her tests are difficult because they are both math-problem heavy and also concept/idea heavy, which is probably why people complain on here. You learn a lot from her class, and you MUST attend lecture. The other professors for 380 are pretty much incompetent. It's a hard class, but Chattin is the best.
The tests are very difficult while I feel I do well on quiz & HW. And you have to go to every class to take the notes on your slides. I won't say it's the worst but absolutely not an amazing class like people said. It's a boring and difficult class.
This course is very reliant on the tests, so please be prepared to study up. However, I think that Dr. Chattin is a very relatable and accomodating professor! Just show up to lectures, do the quizzes (in groups), and do the HW on time. Try to find a connection between concepts, it makes it easier to understand/remember.
Lots of homework but it's not usually that hard. No curving! The final is much easier than other tests. I recommend that you follow her advice to print out the slides and take your notes on them! Unlimited paper notes for tests.
Lots of homework, but worth very little. Tests worth 70% of grade. Wouldn't be so bad, but she has the most stressful test environment I've ever experienced. Seems to go out of her way to make tests more complicated; no partial credit, strange seating, etc. Fine teacher, but an awful environment. If you have test anxiety, wouldn't recommend.
Real curveballs on the exams, some questions are understandable tests of knowledge that you could only acquire by reading the book... but for exam 2 it feels like I just got hit with a few "gotcha, hahas!" that I had never seen before in the 300+ homework problems. That'd be cool, if this exam wasn't 20%+ of my grade and longer than 12 questions.
IEE 210 with Professor Chattin is not that hard. Go to the lectures, read the textbook, and do the homework. It does not take long to grasp each concept and if you go to class and pay attention there is no way you could fail this class. It's an easy A with minimum effort. Study for that Math competency exam! it's 40 percent of your grade.
This class is easy if you're good with calculator stats functions. We had a webwork assignment or 2 due every week and 3 exams, including the final. Don't miss any lectures because she does a good job of explaining things. For the tests, you can use 2 cheat sheets, front and back, so just write any important formulas on there and you'll be good.
I screwed up the final, so that's why I have a C in the class. She's an OK professor and if you don't get the material I highly recommend her. However, if you are a person who learns math at a fast pace, this class is so boring and dry. Not sure if there are many other options besides Chattin but honestly this class is not that hard, you'll survive
The best industrial engineering professor by far. Dr. Chattin made me fall in love with statistics. Her teaching methods were helpful during exams because I was able to recall what she was saying in class. Attendance is mandatory and that's good because you learn a lot from being present in class.
Really tricky & unpredictable questions on Quizzes/Exam. No partial credit on all 6 Quizzes worth 9%. HW every 2-3 days of about 35-40 Questions. No grade curves despite average being low. Makes an already tough class harder to even pass. Absolutely, do NOT recommend to take this Professor.
Math courses are not taught all by PPT and notes but she did. I have to spend all time copying the notes and her handwriting is really hard to recognize. If you do not make all notes you will lose lots of points in exams and quiz. Usually I did not write any comments here but now I would like to give her my first bad comment. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL
Chattin is a good choice for stats, she does a good job of explaining some difficult concepts in lecture. That being said, she has some unrealistic expectations on exams and is very particular in what she is looking for. If this is your first time taking stats, it maybe quite difficult.
IEE380 was a breeze in front of this class. First test is the hardest so make sure you go to class to take good notes. 5 In class quizzes and 2 midterms with 2 two-sided cheat sheets. All online Homework is done on WileyPlus. Make sure to print slides and take good notes on them! Everything works out in the end. Last sections are easy.
Heavy workload but manageable. Weekend quizzes done online. 25 minutes for 10 questions. I suggest making friends and working together. 3 tests can average 2 different ways to give you a better average if you bomb one. Go to class and pay attention. Chattin was kind, funny, and engaging. Loved her teaching style.
Chattin is still one of the best professors there is. She is organized, clear and helpful. You can't blame the Professor if you fail. Go to class, and you'll pass as Chattin loves to take material from her notes and use them on the test. Homework is heavy but not insane. Most students pass this class, it's not as scary as they make it sound.
Massive Class Size. Having to print lecture slides and attend class was annoying but lectures are insightful. Group project might go hard depending on your randomly assigned team. Tests can be tricky. A Calculator is essential.
This class is the first real IE class, which was shown by how much time must be dedicated to do well. There were two homework sets of about 10-25 problems each week along with a weekly quiz. The exams can get tricky because it covers a lot of material and not knowing one or two could really hurt your scores.
This class is heavy, Dr. C want you to have a clear picture and solid knowledge on the matter. If you study well and understand all the material you will get a big fat A easily.
This is a heavy class, lots of homeworks but Prof. Chattin is really good at explaining. I took this class during the summer and I loved that! We did not have a midterm, just 2 exams and a final. Lots of homeworks, a lot of cheat sheet space (get 1 sheet pet exam and 3 sheets for the final, front and back).
Professor Chattin explains the concepts very well and does not spend too much time on unnecessary proofs and theorems. She does focus on examples and how to understand and actually solve problems. Lots of HW and most of the grade is exams and quizzes, so you need to study, do all the homework and attend all of the lectures do do well.
Chattin is fantastic - one of my favorite professors in IE at ASU. I had her for both IEE/380 and 385 and she is legitimately great at teaching. That being said, it is critical that you go to class, print the slides out, etc (like she tells you to do). 385 esp is a HARD class but if you put in the work, you'll be fine.
This course contains useful information regarding statistics & probability. Material is organized very well. The instructor's approach is severe - the course very test heavy (with unreasonable timings) while frequently warning students about violating the university's integrity standards. The key objective seems to be - filter students out.
Chattin is by far the best choice for stats!!! She creates printouts with fill in the blanks for lecture notes. As long as you show up to class and follow along, this class is a breeze. There is one group project, but it is pretty easy. You are allowed a cheat sheet for exams. Weekly homework on Wiley PLUS and weekly quizzes. Amazing professor!!!!!
Everything you need to know will be on the slides provided and filled out by watching the videos. Her quizzes require you to have textbook open and slides ready to look at, and quick. Time on quizzes is tight. Quizzes often contain trick-like questions. Offers her opinion on things too often but cuts all the bs out and shows you how to get it done.
She cares about her students and reiterates material to make it stick in your head. You follow along on printed out notes on a powerpoint in lectures and her tests are not terrible with the grading scale. Do the homework, pay attention in lectures, and prepare good note sheets for tests and you will do fine.
Where to even begin. IEE 321 is advertised as an Ethics class necessary to complete your Capstone courses. This is anything but. I would say about 10% of the course covers ethics, while the rest is material unrelated to the theme of the course. There is a borderline sadistic amount of work assigned that is more in line with a 4 credit course than 1
Overall a very organized and cool professor. HW 2x a week and a quiz based on what we did in class. I've taken stats before and this class was even harder for some reason. Lots of conceptual questions on exams that throw you off. Calculations are straightfoward but can get tricky. One group project that was easy and pretty quick. Reasonable grading
I had Prof. Chattin for IEE380 and IEE385. I thought the class was pretty straight forward as she is clear in class what will be on the tests. Quizzes were in class and were fairly easy as long as you take the time to create a cheat sheet (allows one). Allows multiple cheat sheets on exams. Homework was more heavy the first half of course.
Dr. Chattin is great and really cares about her students. The class is heavy but her grading criteria are very clear and the material is dense enough that if you do what you are supposed to you will be fine. I would totally recommend.
Nice Professor
Chattin uses unconventional methods of teaching that make simple things extremely difficult and complex. She teaches like she assumes you've already read the lecture slides. She is also not understanding of personal circumstances and is pretty condescending sometimes. I wouldn't take her again. Take Clough instead.
I had Chattin for her IEE380 class and was at first intimidated by the surrounding talk that IEE380 is a notoriously hard class that is difficult to pass. However, if you're willing to put in the work, I believe her tests are very fair and there aren't any curveballs as long as you understand what you are doing, and not just plugging in numbers.
She did not seem to actually understand the material. She just reads off her slides and wants you to memorize how to do everything on the calculator. Basically a TI-84 class.
She is super accommodating and will go out of her way for any student. She teaches in a way that makes the material easy to understand. I feel like I learned a lot from this class because of her.
A lot of homework assignments and quizzes. Tests are somewhat difficult but fair. Her notes are very good and she cares a lot on how the class is doing.
I am a full-time student but took this class online due to the pandemic. The course was very organized and deadlines were clear and well laid out. The class took a LOT of my time but I worked hard in this class and got an A. Her email response time was very fast. I think she does a good job "teaching" online.
Nice professor. CSE380 is a hard class but Dr. Chattin makes it easier.
Great professor, with lots of experience with the material. Quizzes go over material presented, and exams are fair. There are practice exams to let you see where to improve.
All I'll say is do not take this class if you're taking it during the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm not sure how Prof. Chattin was before having to move to online, but she's gotten incredibly careless, sloppy, and lazy since then. We don't have real lectures but rather watch her YouTube material from 2 years ago on our own time, and she hardly tries.
COVID lectures were pre-recorded lectures from her which are good. Goes over questions and homework during the actual class that happens once every other week. Homework, quizzes, and practice exams are well-reflected in exams. Content can pile up pretty quickly and requires a good amount of time commitment.
I think she has a real passion for the subject. I spoken to her in office hours and she is really caring. The class is heavy and I really recommend to follow the weekly plan she has laid out in canvas. Follow that plan and you will be set for the class.
She grades fairly hard, but there's lots of high point assignments, so if you miss a few, it won't affect you too bad. Really solid introduction into Ira Fulton. I've heard only good things about her other classes.
I fretted this class, and it turned out to be an intense but not bad experience. It will take time between classes, homework and quiz prep. You will also learn a lot if you follow the Professors suggested outline. The exams focuses on fundamentals, but that doesn't mean they are easy. No extra credit.
Chattin was amazing. She teaches thoroughly, as well as how to do much of the work through your calculator. Quizzes and exams are exactly what's on the homework. For the online sync style, all the lectures are available from the beginning. There's only 2 exams, an easy project, and the final. Class content isn't too hard as well.
Lots of homework in this class with 2 sets a week, but the expectations in this class are very fair. Dr. Chattin explains content very clearly for exams and quizzes. I definitely had to work for this class, but make a good cheat sheet with lots of examples and definitions for the probability distribution, and you're golden.
Excellent professor. The subject matter is a little difficult at times, but she is more than willing to help you outside of class and explain concepts in a way that makes sense
This class is very similar to AP Statistics if you have taken it. She is a good lecturer and exams weren't too bad. The group project is easy as well.
Professor Chattin taught very clearly and simply. It was easy to understand what she was teaching. Tests were not too hard but are a big portion of your grade. I averaged about an 85 on my tests which left me at a B. In most classes that would put me in the lower A average.
The class itself isn't that much of a jump from IEE380, but there is a lot of know before each test. Thankfully Dr. Chattin is an awesome professor who teaches very well and is consistently available to help out. Make sure to brush up on Discrete and Continuous probability distributions and some Calc 2 before taking this class.
I'm not sure why she has such a high review. She's nice & means well, but her lectures are trash. She does one, easy example (or two) per section which are completely useless for the homework. The homework is unlike anything discussed in lectures or in the book. I have to google everything. Whenever you ask her for help she beats around the bush.
Lecture attendance not required, but you really do learn the most while in class. Chattin cares about her students, and is very easy to get in touch with. Her class is hard- you need to do your work and more to get a good grade! Chattin is the most thorough lecturer I've ever had!
From what I've heard, Dr. C is one of the best professors to get for ASU101. She made the class as easy as possible, knowing we have major specific classes/ assignments to focus on. I found her lectures very helpful and casual. Attendance is mandatory but we were allotted 3 skips. Just do the work and it's an easy GPA boost. She seemed very nice!!
She most definitely knows what she's talking about, she's incredibly enthusiastic about the course. But it's like she's teaching it to herself, not taking into account that these incoming students have no idea what any of it is. TLDR, want to learn stats? 100% take Chattin. Want to just get a credit and move on to relevant classes? Steer far away
I took 380 with this professor and really loved her 380 class and understood it all. 385 is a whole different story for this professor. She is so rude and wont work with students to help make sure they succeed. She wants students to fail and thrives off that. Take this with another professor or beware of the worst semester ever.
IEE 385 is not an easy class, but I recommend taking it with Dr C. She is clear on what is expected, and does a great job explaining the material. There is a lot of homework in the beginning, but the extra practice helps when it comes to exams. This is the type of class that rewards hard work, so study hard and you will be fine.
Dr. Chattin is a teacher at heart. She cares about students, and is very straightforward in lecture. Homework reflects lecture, and quizzes/exams reflect homework and lecture. It's quite a lot of material, but Dr. Chattin makes no individual topic difficult. She is also a great resource outside the class for advice on resumes and classes to take.
Professor Chattin gives good lectures and are helpful for quizzes and exams. Homework can sometimes be tedious but usually reinforces what you learn during the quizzes. Highly recommended for IEE 380.
Dr.C is a decent professor. Her class is hard and she makes you work for your grade. Tests are difficult & quizzes can be difficult. 2 homework's/week. Hw nothing like lecture. Asking for help on quiz/test questions outside of class yield's no results, almost unapproachable. Watching her fill out slides for every class gets stale fast. I hated 385
I will be the voice of dissent I guess. She does not care about the circumstances of her students and will penalize your grade severely. Very little help knowing how to prepare for exams, which account for almost all of your grade. She also likes to put lots of trick questions on the test, little "gotchas". Stay away from this class.
This class is a lot of work with 2 homework every week and each HW has 20 or so questions, along with weekly quizzes and a semester project. I did all of those and have never given so much time to a course however the final was super hard and I got a C in something for the first time in my life. I don't know what more I could have done :(
While this class is certainly challenging in terms of workload, the content is not. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Dr. Chattin practically force-feeds you the answer to every single exam question, but ONLY if you are willing to take the time to examine EVERY item in the weekly to-do. Not for the undisciplined or work averse. Great Prof!
She is a very nice professor and I genuinely enjoyed her presence. This class is definitely not my strong suit but when I went to class she made it very easy to learn. Do not underestimate this course, the beginning is easy but gets much harder once you reach hypothesis testing halfway through.
If you don't understand statistics now, you're never going to in the future unless you take statistics with Chattin. Great professor, knows exactly what she is talking about unlike the rest of the 380 professors. Make sure do good on each exam because if you don't you will fail the class. Don't underestimate this class no matter how good Chattin is
Best professor for this class. She cares for her students and rounds up because she understands life can be difficult outside of class. She explains everything clearly, is accessible outside of class, has MULTIPLE resources to help with homework, tests aren't too bad, and gives extra credit. Never had a better professor.
She is a great professor. I had a B in the course all year but then the final exam was pretty challenging so be prepared for progressively harder exams. Homework and quizzes were good practice and exams were not too bad.
Chattins classes are pretty clear and not too difficult if you watch the lectures. She had in person lecture and lecture videos online which was extremely helpful. The grades in this course are based off of Quizzes, Exams, and in class attendance. There is HW, but it's not for a grade.
Dr. Chattin is one of the most organized professors Ive ever had. Every thing that is expected of you from work to grades to reading is all clearly presented. Her lectures are easy to follow and she teaches well. Highly recommend.
Professor Chattin was great. She is a good teacher but is tough. Very fair teacher. Would recommend.
Very good lectures, she will drill the material in your head. There's a lot of information to be taught in this course but she does a good job in helping you understand all the basics and the relations of all the concepts. There's a lot of homework due every week. No extra credit. Annoying and cumbersome attendance for a class of over 100 students.
Professor Chattin gives entertaining but focused lectures that cover the homework, quiz, and test material well. She's very clear with test topics and has a somewhat lenient grading system. Her IEE380 class is easy if you do the expected work.
Tests are worth most of the grade
Easy class, amazing teacher. The only notes needed for me were the equations, I didn't have to pay attention to the lecture much of the time. Absolutely do the homework, all of it. They help you learn to actually use the equations, and prepare you for the tests.
She's a great professor with clear lectures and expectations. The whole class went very smoothly, and I learned a lot. Not a hard class.
Professor Chattin is probably my favorite professor I've had at ASU. She teaches because she's actually good at teaching, not because she is doing research for the university and has to teach. The quizzes and tests are extremely fair, and she uploads lectures to YouTube that help a lot as well. I'd rate higher than 5 if I could.
3 in person exams, there's homework due each week, 1 project, random in person attendance, 8-10 quizzes, 4 type of overall grade. notes are amazing, and there a lot of resources on canvas that she has provided. try to get good grade in exams to get a good grade
Best professor I have had in a while. Very clear with things such as what is going to be on tests and quizzes. There were 23 homework assignments and 9 quizzes. Fairly easy but a lot of (unneeded) volume. The exams were incredibly easily, I got 100 on each one with less than 2 hours of studying each. 100% recommend
Professor Chattin is truly a great lecturer and teacher. This class was one of the most organized and well-ran classes I have ever taken in both high school and college. If you pay attention in lecture and try to do most of the homework, you will do well on tests and quizzes. Put in the effort and this class will not be hard.
Her reviews speak for themselves. Most organized prof. I've ever had. Super clear grading criteria w/ resources readily available on Canvas. HW felt redundant but did prepare me a lot for tests as I barely needed to study when the time came around. You'll have to put time into the class but it's not too hard, esp if you took AP Stats in HS.
This class was pretty hard but Chattin gives the best chance of passing. Tests were complex, quizzes were nearly impossible if you didn't attend the lectures, and the homework was doable thanks to her videos on Canvas. Gotta study a lot if you want to do well in this class.
Ms. Chattin was a really good professor. Her lectures midway through the semester are unbearable to sit through so I would recommend just watching her lecture videos which she says aren't the same as the lecture but really are. Her grading policy is probably the dumbest one I've seen in a while since they essentially calculate the same grade.
Super organized and straightforward! TAKE NOTES (she has PowerPoint templates you just print and fill out, if you don't go to class definitely still watch the lecture videos and take notes). Take notes, do the homework, know how to use your calculator, and you'll be set. Honestly, much easier class than I was expecting.
Dr. Chattin is the best professor I have had at ASU so far. She really cares about her students and makes all assignments very clear. I took this course online over summer so it had a lot of work, but the way she sets this course up makes it very manageable.
This professor had my jaw on the floor. She's absolutely amazing, the course is incredibly well done. If you do poorly, it's ENTIRELY on you. Everything is neatly organized out, which baffles me on why this isn't the standard for ASU. Assignments are clear, exams are based on what you learned, issues are resolved in favor of the student.
IEE 380 is the easiest upper level class I've ever taken, and the material is organized very well. Especially if you've taken AP Stats or STP 226 before, it will be a breeze. Chattin is a solid professor, but tbh all you need to get an A in the class is to copy down the lecture slides and do every HW. Tests are easy and open-note, and HW is fair.
First month of the course has a lot of homework but slows down after. She lays out each week for you making it easy to schedule when to work on what. Lectures were boring, but I mean how interesting can you make intro-level stats. To do well, all you need to do is watch lectures and do the work. Studying comes easy after. Overall, great professor.
She hands you everything you need. No reason anyone should get less than an A. If you watch her lectures or videos, she highlights exactly what you will need to know. She explains exactly as much as you need to know. Plenty of cheat sheets for exams. Even runs four different grading schemes and gives you the highest! Boomer energy but easy A, IMO.
This professor gives me anger issues. She doesn't negotiate and she will fail you if you give her a reason. There's an insane amount of homework and you will likely risk it all just to pass in regards to your other classes. Stay away from her at all costs.
An insane amount of homework. Her teaching style is also pretty boring and hard to follow.
By far the worst teacher at ASU in my three years on this degree path. She is more worried about students cheating than actually teaching. I have never seen such a paranoid teacher. The exams are 75% of your grade. Do poorly on one, and you will struggle the rest of the semester. Do poorly on two, and your semester is over.
Dr. Chattin lectures well, and you'll understand the concepts from her. My main complaint with this class is that she grades based on blindly copying the formulae from her lectures and the textbook, and just plugging numbers in, rather than on understanding the underlying math. If your math is correct but notation is different, you get no marks.
Lectures were boring but helpful and straightforward and gave you all the info needed to do the homework, quizzes, and exams. Didn't have to teach myself anything like most other classes since everything is in the slides she gives us. Material wasn't difficult and honestly an easy A/B if you show up to lectures do the work and pay attention.
Avoid this professor at all costs. She is the worst professor to teach IEE380 even though other professors use her PowerPoints. No partial credit, no late work, no excuses, and attendance is mandatory. She is horrible at explaining concepts - this is a teach-yourself class. Take any other professor. She is a good/cool person but a bad teacher.
Dr. Chattin is a great professor, but this class is VERY test-heavy (if you score below an 80 on one of the exams, good luck getting an A). There is lots of homework, but most of it is more tedious work than complex problem-solving. If you are looking for an easy A, I heard Ding is a good professor who gives lots of extra credit.
One of the best professors I've had at ASU, Canvas page is extremely well organized with weekly to-do lists, lectures are easy to follow with printed slides provided to follow along with (and even past lecture videos posted if you miss a class). Exams aren't too challenging but make up a large portion of the grade, lots of homework but worthwhile
Dr Chattin is a very fair person, she tells you what is expected from the course and is very clear. This class is very organized and she has super helpful lecture videos. This class overall takes a lot of effort so be prepared to study and actively learn in this class.
Professor Chattin is a fantastic teacher and very knowledgeable about the subject. The lectures were excellent. In addition, attendance is not mandatory, so you can learn at your own speed. The tests and quizzes are hard, so make sure to put all formulas on your note page. I would highly recommend Professor Chattin's class.
She is a great teacher. Good lectures and powerpoints. Has very flexible office hours where you can send her an email and if she's available she'll jump in or let you know when she can meet with you Taking another stats course right now and they cover lots of things from here, but in a very confusing way. Glad I took 380 with Chattin before hand.
There's a long homework due every other day. There's a quiz every single week. She wants us to print out 500 pages of notes throughout the course so that we can take notes along with her. Her explanation videos are blurry and you can't even see the numbers or letters on the page.
Dr. Chattin is an incredible professor! Yes, there's a lot of homework, but it is for your benefit, you don't get better at applying probabilistic and statistical methods without doing a lot of practice. Lectures are very straightforward and engaging and tests/quizzes often pull from them directly. Highly recommend for anyone taking IEE380.
Incredible teacher. Her class is organized and very straight forward - I felt like my grade was directly a result of my effort as a student. She leaves no open questions or doubts about the course or requirements to the students. I feel like my grade reflected my performance accurately. I wish she taught more course at asu.
Very organized course. Lots of work. Fair exams.
Class is very structured. Always obvious what you need to be studying. Lots of homework buts its mostly busy work and the exams have 0 curveballs on them so if you study the material given you will pass the exams easily. Just need to put time into the class.
Test and quizzes are tough
This is clearly a difficult class, yet Dr. Chattin has organized the content into something accessible. She provides weekly to-dos to help you stay on top of the workload (which is a lot, but manageable). I love the "fill in the slides" format, which helped me stay focused each lecture and provides you with notes. Overall, excellent professor.
Dr. Chattin is a fantastic professor. Tons of homework but there are homework help videos if you get stuck. Tests are tricky and require you to have not just a computational understanding, but a conceptual one. My advice is to write good cheat sheets with the formulas and get used to using them on homeworks and quizzes.
Class was very well organized. Homeworks are a LOT but she has videos walking you through most of the tough ones. Exams weren't too bad at all. She does a good job explaining concepts in lecture.
Overrated IMO. Us CS students don't give two bleeps abouts statistics and she knows it, but she attempts to make it as painless as possible. However, the grading scale is completely messed, almost impossible to get an A if you do not get a 100% on every test. Tests and homework are not easy, but are not hard either. Just overall a meh class.
Lots of Homework and Quizzes and tests are so hard. Had to put a lot of time into the course still isn't worth it. More time-consuming class. If you cannot put 2 hours a day into it, you can't get the desired grade.
This course is not important for the majority of student that take it and the professor is very aware and tries to work around that. There are loads of extra videos she has posted to help you throughout the semester, but there are some weird decisions as well, like disabling seeing your grade on canvas, and it's just a lot of work to keep up with.
Professor Chatten's teaching style is highly rigid and might not accommodate those dealing with personal challenges. Her adherence to strict academic standards can be demanding. It may be helpful to seek courses with more flexible teaching methods if you encounter difficulties.
Homework isn't graded.
Kind of hard, but u won't find a better professor. She'll do problems by hand, but find out how to do it in your ti-84. Test material is from lecture videos & homework. I'd have 1 example of how to do every type of problem in a document. mini project (10%) wasn't bad, but so many technical rules that we lost points for things unrelated to the class
I took this course online and it was great. My only gripe is that the final exam has so much effect on your ending grade. Basically no matter how good you do before the final, if you do not score well on it you will end with a poor grade. Other than that easy homework, quizzes, and exams (except the final).
Great Professor, A lot of lectures but fairly easy to understand, will need to print out lots of paper for notes. Midterms and final Exams are really important for determining your final grade. You will not pass if you dont use your time wisely to study. Dr Chattin is an excelllent professor.
This class is a challenge, but Prof. Chattin makes it manageable. The workload is heavy, but she provides great resources like homework help videos. Mastering the concepts is key - unstuckstudy AI can supplement study prep. Overall, an excellent professor.
She is clearly not a pure math professor as formulae are introduced in a high school manner. If you're in College and have self dignity to understand "why" of concepts, take somebody else. Her homework problems are the only logical work. Please skip her lectures
Chattin is nice and funny. LOTS of homework, but she tells you how to do everything in the calculator in lecture. Attendance not mandatory, but she gives hints on what will be on the exam alot. This class isn't insanely hard, just do the work and know how to do it in the calc. Also, her exams focus on the theory rather math, STUDY HER NOTES.
Prof Chattin was the goat. Attend her lectures even though attendance isn't mandatory. She gives hints for what will be on the exams and the way she goes over her slides is very thorough so it's easier to remember concepts.
This course in general is real hard to pass. Prof Chattin cares about her students and teaches very well. I felt the course was graded on very few things.
The most organized course I've ever taken. Lectures are great and teach you everything you need and all the expectations are detailed. Homework is very excessive and annoying but her videos help. Exams are very straightforward and fair if you keep up with the lectures and homeworks. Makes the course as simple, fair, and passable as can be!
Dr. Chattin is probably the best professor I have ever had. Her lecture videos are actually helpful and relevant, tests are fair and reflective of the material, and she works hard to provide a structured, easy to follow course outline. If you apply yourself and work hard you will succeed. I wish she could teach every course at ASU!
There is A LOT of homework at first, but it gets better after the first test. However, none of it is very difficult. Tests are quite reasonable as well. Dr.Chattin is funny and really cares about stats, which makes her lectures enjoyable for the most part. If I had to give any criticism, I would say she does yap a little bit too much sometimes.
She is such an amazing professor. So organized and very fair. This class was amazing and I can't wait to take another one of her classes.
Amazing professor, the class itself is pretty tricky but through Chattin it's more than doable. Her lectures are great and she provides more than enough reasources on canvas to do well on homework. Her exams are also pretty fair too, and the class is very organized which is super nice. Take her if you can.
Prof Chattin is very solid. She is very clear in all of her class policies and gives many tips on how to succeed in her class. Class is not required, but she recommends people come. Very fair, very organized, and very manageable course. Took it along with the CS trifecta, and it was fine. She's earned her high rating on here.
The most organized professor at ASU who's excellent at presenting lectures on complex topics. All her tests are 20 question multiple choices. Miss just 3 questions, you're already a grade level down, but she has youtube videos for every single concept. She always prints notes in advance and even gives you a weekly todo list. Fantastic professor.
Really good teacher. Extra help videoa. Fair grader. Don't take this very difficult course in the summer, though. Intense.
If you are an EE student, don't be wary of this as an upper division elective. Very interesting. The tests are quite simple, and I spent less than 10 hours per week on the class. I didn't have the experiences these other posters had.
Only posted prerecorded lectures for the entire semester and relied on TA to answer student questions. Some of the lectures were distorted and unwatchable, and she never responded to questions about them and has yet to fix it. Exams are not similar to homework at all. No extra credit or leniency. Exam heavy grading with weird rules for test taking.
She's paranoid about cheating, but the course is well organized.
Dr. Chattin is genuinely the best professor in IEE, She rewards those who come to class with extra information and makes the lectures hilarious while worthwhile. The class is not easy at all. If you struggled with 380 AT ALL, then reconsider brushing up or retaking it. Go to class, put in the work, and you will pass. Chattin is the GOAT.
