I really enjoyed this course; the readings were enjoyable and fairly interesting. I did it by distance and really liked the break down of the units and self quizzes in the course manual. Follow the manual and know the readings for the long answer - including specific names and quotes and you'll get an A for sure.
Amazing prof. Definitly the best one I have had since I went to Mun. She is very sweet and caring prof who is really concerned with how well her students do and she tries her best to help the student out the best she can. I would definitly reccomend her to teach anyone. I would definitly do a course with her again. Very fair marker. So nice :)
Enjoyable and very helpful! This is my second course with Linda and would continue to take more courses with her. Oh, and for those of you looking for more reviews, she was formally Linda Parsons.
Great prof! Extremely understanding and really cares about how her students are doing, both academically and personally. Read the book and readings, and course manual if through distance and you'll do fine. She even gives you extra marks if you show effort and improvements! Highly recommend and would take more classes with her!
Linda's great, she's very helpful both in class, and out of class. If you speak to her personally, she also expresses an interest in how you are doing personally as well. Sometimes her lectures can get a little tedious, but I think that's a greater problem with the material rather than her. Highly reccomend her
Tries to make lectures interesting, with a few debates occasionally in class. Very easy and understanding marker and does her best to ensure you get the highest mark you possibly can.
Excellent prof, willing to help you with anything you need. Only bad part is the class discussions because you don't get good notes from that as she puts up whatever people send in. Notes are online if you miss class
I took a distance course from her this semester after having a live one from her last semester. Just as helpful and clear. She really does her best to ensure you get the grade you deserve and maybe more!
Took Soc of Health and Illness as a distance course. Prof. Cohen is awesome. This course was really good, and the paper was great because she basically gives you a list of possible articles to use as a basis for your topic. Great course and prof!
she is very good
I am doing this class by distance. I highly recommend Linda as a prof. She is a great prof. It is obvious that she wants everyone to do the best that they can. She also shows interest in all of her students. I highly recommend her as a prof!
Excellent prof! So sweet and caring. E-mailed her many times with questions, and was responded to within a couple of hours. Easy course, interesting, good videos, most of all, good prof and good notes! Get in her class!
Linda Cohen is such a sweet lady and excellent teacher. She is very helpful and understanding. Easy to get a good mark in the course if you go to class and study the material. Highly recommended. Would definitely take another of her courses. Get her if you can!
Great prof. Would recommend taking her class. I took this by distance. She responded to emails really quickly usually within a day. She is very helpful and tries to solve any problem your having. Exams are fair and she is not to hard of a marker. Very nice lady. Really enjoyed her class.
So nice! Wants to see her students succeed. Recommended.
Excellent prof, Linda is such a nice lady. I find her very helpful she has no problem helping her students get through any assignments she gives. She is very useful to first year students, as she is very understanding of the fact that it is your first year. I would recommend her to anyone
Very nice lady, very fair marker. She does tend to stay away from textbook, this poses a problem though as her notes are very unorganized and unclear. Course needs a more defined structure imo
For a distance course Dr. Cohen made every effort to communicate with students online. Her requirements were clear and the exams were fairly graded. I think Dr Cohen has a great deal of passion for her courses and this is reflected by the effort she puts into them. Great prof.
Really nice prof, very understanding and wants to see her students succeed. I'd definitely take another one of her courses again! She grades you on attendance and participation though, so make sure you show up to class!
She Is An Absolute Gem! Literally Gives You Word for Word The Midterm & Exam Questions And Yes Even Includes Bonus Questions On Midterm&Final. Amazing Teacher Brought In Snacks On Movie Days, She's a Peach!
She is really nice i must say. the course was interesting, and she is a good prof. the midterms and final were non-cumulative, and she tells you what exactly to expect, no surprises. Her slides are okay, i found the text was a great help. Great prof, and i would recommend her.
Took more than one course with her and both were excellent. Linda goes above and beyond to be the best prof she can be and it really works. I took one course with Adler and dropped it because it was crap, I found out I had to take it then decided to do it with Linda online and it has been 100x better! Truly one of the best. What a prof should be.
Make sure you attend her class because she basically tells you what shes going to put on the test. As long as you keep up with the reading and go to class youll get a good mark!
Helpful and made soc1000 interesting
Such a wicked teacher, very clear in classes, which she makes interesting and varied !
awesome professor!! very helpful and made the course interesting. Student expectations were clear. Vivid outline of final exam and midterms. marks received for attending class and easy to contact!
Knows her stuff but fails to get it across effectively. Notes and lectures are very unclear and are not well organized. Luckily the course material isn't too hard. Basically have to teach it to yourself. Absolutely hated listening to her for 50 mins.
Took distance course. Prof very friendly and helpful, answered question right away and marks were fair and quick! Very clear outline for exam. Make sure you read the assigned material and you'll do fine.
She was an amazing prof. Super interesting, clear with her points and mega helpful. I would recommend her to anyone taking a first year sociology course as it can be dry, she did a good job of making it interesting. She even let me write a defferred final without a drs note.
Great prof for this course if you don't like going to class. She puts everything online, even easy ways to make up missed classes! Also tells you basically everything on the tests, overall very easy course!
Professor Cohen is my favorite prof EVER! I would recommend her to anyone! She's a very fair marker and she is extremely helpful and encouraging. I took this course by distance and I enjoyed her class to the fullest and I hope to take another in the future, perhaps an on-campus course next time!
She's an amazing professor and person in general! I've never dealt with anyone more caring towards their students. There are no surprises in her exams, she tells you what she expects and she follows through with this. I loved going to her with questions because you could just sit and talk to her as if you knew her. TAKE HER COURSE!
She has to be one of the best profs at mun. She is very fair and very clear in her expectations. If you study her outlines there will be no surprises on the exams. She is also very fair in marking. She seems to be just looking to know that you read the material and understand it. Pick her and you won`t be dissappointed.
Very boring and dry.
I've had this prof for three courses (Soci 1000, 2270, and 3307). In all courses she was extremely fair to all students, was very helpful, and made all requirements clear. One of the best profs I have come across at MUN.
Class was very easy, mostly common sense. Almost a bummer to have to go to class for the attendance but a very nice person. Not very clear on what's wanted for in class assignments/what to study for exams. Also, a bit too much emphasis on group works in class. Slow paced classes, not a lot of interesting info but great person.
Kind of funny prof. Shes a little quirky and makes jokes sometimes which made class a bit better. Sociology 1000 was my course with her, which was really easy to understand. Only bad thing about her was she was confusing when it came to what was expected for papers/assignments. Really knew what she was talking about, Overall good prof.
Great prof! dropped our lowest mark at the end of the term. She's really approachable too!
Probably one of the best prof's I've had at MUN! She is amazing and so approachable. She really wants you to succeed in your course and will drop your lowest midterm mark. Plus the final is only on the material tested after the 2nd midterm, it's a really easy course!
Linda was awesome! I took Families by distance and the course could not have went better. The requirements were prefectly laid out. If you studied what she said was on the exam, you definitely would have got an A. Test answers come straight from the D2L work.
Professor Cohen was such a good prof! Easy course material, she genuinely wants you to do your best. Dropping your lowest midterm mark is very helpful, and the final is only from the 2nd midterm, loved taking this course with her!~
She was perfectly fine until then end when she sprang the brutal final on everyone. She can be very unclear and seems that her commentary in class has nothing to do with the exams I don't know what everyone else sees in her. Her slideshows are poor. You'll still do fine but don't expect to walk out of the final with the same mark you went in with.
Very nice lady, super easy course, but her lectures suck and attendance is at times recorded. If you read the book you will get a good mark, but her lectures.. are terrible. She talks too much about irrelevant things and goes through 2 slides. Overall an easy A.
Very nice lady and approachable. She has attendence classes and if you attend 80% of them she will drop your lower of your 2 midterm marks. Helped alot. Lectures for the most part are boring. Easy B+ or A.
Linda is a very approachable prof and is always willing to help. Her notes are vague but if you read the book the course is an easy a!
She's such a great prof! If you get 80% attendance she drops the lowest of your midterms.. if you can't go to class for the attendance then you can do this mini assignment online to get it. If you don't like multiple choice midterms then you can defer and do a long answer one instead. She goes out of her way to get you a good mark!
Took health sociology online over summer. She was very helpful and understanding. Wants her students to do well. She replied quickly and with detailed responses. Feel free to ask her for help or to clairfy your understanding. SHe is very knowledgable.
Great prof! Very helpful! Gives online assignments if missed class (very short ones). If your attendance is 80+ she'll drop your lowest midterm mark. She makes sociology very interesting and she's pretty interactive in class. Lots of chances to openly voice your thoughts :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! If you take soc 1000 - TAKE HER CLASS! :)
She's an absolutely excellent prof! She explains things very clearly, especially her assignments, and posts all her notes online. She's really helpful and sweet, she'll help you with anything you need. Highly recommend her, especially to first years!
Linda is a great prof. Her instructions and expectations are very clear from the start. She is very helpful and knowledgeable. A very fair marker. If you attend 80% + of the classes, she will drop your lowest midterm mark going into the final. Great prof, especially for first years, I am going to try to take another course of hers next year!
Dr.Cohen is really laid back but her notes were often hard to follow or lacked a lot of what we discussed in class. Took a night class with her and we would always get out early which was great. 2 midterms and a final, plus she would drop your lower midterm grade if you participated in 80% of the group work (which was nice!) Her exams were easy!
She is an absolute sweet heart. You can tell that she genuinely wants students to do well and she isn't too proud to admit that she made mistakes or made a test too difficult. Is really personable and always willing to discuss class material.
Linda is a genuinely pleasant professor who wants her students to succeed. I don't like how she throws random assignments at us and count them as our "attendance mark". But all in all she is an easy marker, who designs easy test, and is willing to help.
Linda is a great professor. She will drop the lower of your two midterm marks. She goes out of her way to make sure her students understand the material. She is very kind and reasonable.
Linda is an amazing professor, and an absolute sweetheart. She really wants her students to succeed, and helps out however she can. She also has a good sense of humour. If you attend 80% of classes, she will drop your lowest midterm mark. I would take my entire degree with her if I could.
Linda Cohen is an excellent teacher, she gives useful feedback and is quick with her response time. She tells you exactly what she expects from you and there are no surprises on her exams. I would definitely recommend Families 2270 as it was a very interesting and a straight forward course with a moderate amount of reading to complete.
Would definitely recommend taking a course with Linda Cohen. Very helpful and informative. She drops the lowest test score if you attend 80% of her participation classes. Exams are also very straight forward and she will tell you what to expect the class before the exam. She also takes suggestion on class content and exam questions. Excellent prof.
Linda is an amazing prof! Great for first year students. Attendance is mandatory if you want an A. Lectures are easy to follow and she is always there to help you.
Would definitely recommend taking a course with her. Very helpful and informative. She drops the lowest test score if you attend 80% of her participation classes. The book is mandatory because her notes aren't anything like the material on the mid terms. A lot of random assignments but besides that good prof.
The class was really easy, especially with the option of dropping your lower test mark if you attend 80% of classes. Her tests are all multiple choice and one short answer on a video you had to watch... they're pretty straightforward. She's really good with responding to your questions. The lectures can be a little dry, but overall a great prof.
Dr Cohen treats this course as if it were a first year course only being taken by first year students, which is not the case. There was a lot more to this course than what I had expected out of what was my elective, a lot of small but time consuming mini assignments, and she would post slides after lecture and never before, forcing you to write.
Linda is an amazing prof! Responds to emails and discussion forums fairly quickly. Online activities are optional and online quizzes are easy. Textbook use is important.
notes were unclear and had no explanations of anything whatsoever. this professor expected us to read each chapter in the textbook as the section went on in class.. really need to pay attention to what she says because what she said in class, we were tested on in the midterms. the textbook is crucial to passing this course.
Always there to help in whatever way possible! If you go to 80% of the classes she will drop the lowest midterm mark. Her notes are brief but if you attend class and listen to her explanations there is no problem. Having the book and reading the chapters is also helpful as their are multiple choice picked from the text. Definitely would recommend.
She's a little unorganized and all over the place with her lectures. If you don't go to class its a little harder to understand. Reading the textbook is necessary but super easy to get a high mark. She said no one leaves under a 70%. A lot of mini assignments but they're not very hard. Overall sweet lady and lets you check your cell every class.
Course is super organized and she lets students know exactly what is expected of them! You'll need the text book cause you HAVE to use it for a lot of the assignments. Overall easy course, would highly recommend!
She is the sweetest lady ever, genuinely cares about you and wants you to do well. I loved going to her lectures and learned lots from her. She assigns a lot of mini assignments and there's 2 midterms and a final but at least an 80% is easy to get if you put a little effort in. Taking a sociology course with her again next semester, can't wait!!
She has online collabs sometimes which really help to clear up some of the information for the exams. There is a lot of reading that you have to keep up with, But if you keep up with the readings, optional activities and quizzes it's an easy A! And she puts the same questions from the quizzes on the exams!
Dr. Cohen is a great prof, and genuinely cares about her students. However, if you don't come to class - you might find it more difficult. The material itself is not difficult, but many of her test questions come solely from in-class material. She also allows you to drop your lower midterm if you come to 80% of classes. Would recommend.
Super helpful and sweet! If you show up to a certain amount of classes she drops your lowest midterm mark. Answers questions very quickly and goes above and beyond- Highly recommend her!
Linda was an amazing prof who was always there for her students and treated us with respect. Very laid back and likes to communicate with her students. There were no surprises on her midterms or the final, and very easy grader.
Very helpful! She practically saved my semester! She made her lecture rather interesting and tries to get the students to engaged in the discussion, speak up in class and you are good. She is very accommodating and her tests are usually straightforward, just study and attend her class and you are golden! If you need help, just ask.
Loved this woman. Easy course. Gives you the chance to do optional assignments to lower the weight of the final, and grades them very easy. Literally tells you what the long answers are going to be on the midterm and final. There's a lot of reading but the multiple choice/true-false are very easy and mostly common sense.
This prof is the cutest older lady I have ever met. Her lectures are a little dull but she is a great person in and out of school. Tests are material specific with no surprises and she is always there for help or willing to give you a second chance for everything.
The tests are really easy but she can be saucy and doesn't care about her students. Doesn't bother to get to know anybody. If I had my time back I would have chosen a different prof
Super sweet, lots of fun. I skim the slides before midterms and get an 80+ every time. Attendance is optional but lectures are interesting so you may as well.
Dr. Cohen is kind, caring, and patient. Doesn't tolerate phones. I found her sociology 1000 course to be more about learning how to research information for future sociology courses (Library databases, etc.) rather than actual sociology. Would take again, as she is a good prof and knows her stuff, just not what I expected from the course.
Linda was a very nice woman. However, she was all over the place with her lectures. I spent a lot of time wondering what was going on but thankfully, her exams are fairly easy. The textbook is a must as she uses it for her assigned readings on the exams. A big bonus is that she drops the lowest midterm grade when going into the final!
Such a cute, lovely woman. Really knows about her topics. She frequently allows for students to give anonymous feedback about the course, cares about how students are enjoying the course. Her midterms/exams are reasonable, just read the material. Overall good prof!
The main problem I found with Dr. Cohen is that I had to teach myself the majority of the material as her lecture slides are practically useless. She is very sweet outside of class, but a very dry lecturer and not very helpful when asked questions. If I had my time back, I would have chosen a different prof.
Didn't really like the class, but the prof didn't make it any better. Very monotone and found her slideshows hard to follow.
The class is boring as heck but it's easy enough. Linda is cool, she is understanding and wants you to do good.
Linda is a sweetheart! She cares so much about the students & truly wants you to do good. The material is interesting & you are given numerous opportunities to do optional quizzes & assignments to make your final worth less. She answers all questions & all material is fully accessible! Would 10/10 recommend this course with Linda to anyone!
Linda is an angel! Such a sweetheart. I found some of the material boring and hard to get through, but she's so passionate about what she teaches that it makes the course more bearable. Would highly recommend her classes to anyone!
Dr. Cohen is an amazing professor. She truly cares about her subject matter, and makes an effort to be available for questions. Her material breakdown is really handy for an online course, and you're given quite a bit of choice in lectures on what you'd like to learn and read. She also does a few online rooms sessions which are really helpful.
Linda is an absolute sweetheart. she is so kind and doesn't want to see anyone struggle or do bad. She is always willing to help you out and goes above and beyond if you don't understand something. She does attendance and if you attend 80% of her classes you drop your lower midterm mark! She really is passionate about what she teaches
For the online course she's great. She does a bunch of little activities which are not hard at all and she takes the highest five marks. There is also unit quizzes for a couple of the units which aren't hard at all. She's an amazing marker and gives great feedback. She's a great help if you're not sure about something. Almost impossible to fail.
Great professor, very caring.
Linda is a great professor! She is easy to understand and her lectures are interesting. She is fair with grading and gives her students opportunities to boost them.
Dr. Cohen is such a sweet lady. Her lectures are easy to follow, she gives powerpoints on D2L and really does care about her students. Can't wait to take another course with her!
Linda is a sweet and caring woman who cares about all of her students. However, I don't like how she sets up her lectures at all. The slides she posts on D2L are very vague and make no sense to anyone but her. You DEFINITELY have to go to class to be able to get clarification on what she's talking about in the notes. That makes studying difficult.
Linda is in my top two for best profs at MUN, she is the sweetest lady. Her powerpoints can be a little confusing if you don't read the chapters, so attending class really helps. But she will drop your lowest mark if you attend discussion classes! My plan B in life is to pursue sociology and become Linda's best friend. She's truly awesome.
Dr. Cohen is a great professor and very caring but her powerpoints are pretty confusing and hard to understand, especially if you are not attending class. The course itself was not overly challenging but it also wasn't very interesting. There was also a lot of group discussion and participation which allowed you to drop your lower midterm.
Linda is such a doll, I would recommend her to anyone looking to do soc1000!! She genuinely cares about her students, and wants everyone to do well! She does take participation on random days, but showing up allowed you to drop the lower midterm mark. There's not a lot of assigned work, but she expects you to keep up with the text readings.
I'm currently doing 3307 with Linda online now. I can honestly say that she is probably the best prof I've had at MUN. It's obvious that she cares a lot about her students. She makes the course requirements extremely clear and the course layout in general is great. Probably the best course layout I've ever had as well. All around the best ever!!!
Overall Dr. Cohen is very sweet and caring, but her instructional style I didn't take too very well. Her lectures can be very vague and she tends to go on tangents even when reviewing for upcoming tests. She is a very nice person and grades fairly but some classes just left me more confused
really great prof, every sociology course i take i try to get her
Great prof! I had her for Sociology 2270 and took it online and would recommend her to anybody! Honestly, it was really easy to get a good grade even with minimal effort.
Her lectures are extremely dull and her power points are so poorly done its crazy. She makes you go in group projects like once a week and they don't help at all. You have to read like every single chapter in the book if you want to get an A or even a B in this class. Would NOT take this professor again and i do NOT recommend her.
Linda is such a sweet person and professor. However, I found her to be a bit more difficult than anticipated. Lots of reading and interpreting texts, which I'm not a fan of, so i just barely scraped an A in a supposedly-easy course (SOCI 2270) with her.
I didn't do well in this course, but it was entirely my fault. She is an excellent professor and I would definitely take her again. Relatively easy grader.
Linda is an amazing prof who really cares about her students. Although there was quite a bit of reading, the course material was very interesting. Because Linda was so involved in the online course, it really helped me stay focused and prevented me from falling behind on the readings. I would definitely recommend taking this course with Linda.
I've taken her SOCI 2270 and 3307 and Linda is one of the sweetest profs I've ever had. In both courses, all you need to know is the textbook readings and her exams are straightforward. She's organized so you know exactly what you need to do in order to do well and she is a very fair marker, as well as accommodating and kind-hearted.
Amazing prof! Her slides are a bit bare but she does an amazing job explaining the concepts during lectures. She takes attendance most classes, and if you show up to 80% of classes, she will drop your lower midterm mark. 2 midterms, a final, as well as a couple mini assignments, and they are all extremely fair if you take notes/reference the book.
By far my favourite prof Ive ever had, Linda truly cares about her students succeeding. Layout was weekly readings (some weeks they were a bit time consuming), 3 mini assignments (all >1 page long), discussion posts (pick 7/10 to do) and 2 midterms and a final mainly mc/tf. Class was always 70s for test averages. Lectures via D2L online rooms.
I have had her for two courses now and she is a lovely women. She loves what she does. If you prefer tests versus papers she is the prof for you. If you prefer writing you have to work a little harder.
such a sweetheart, very good choice for a prof
Very Kind Woman. She clearly cares about her students, & She just wants everybody to do their best. She definitely made my first semester of online MUN enjoyable.
Dr. Cohen is a kind-hearted soul who truly cares for her students, However, inside her test/exams, she focuses on solely tripping the student up and making them get an answer wrong by making really hard multiple choices. She even talks about this in class and describes to her students how to make good/tricky multiple choice. It's very annoying.
Linda is a sweet lady that greets all her students (even on an online lecture). Her explanations are good but I would appreciate a better idea presented on slides what are theories, definitions, subtitles, etc. The weekly discussions are also inconsistent on timing, it would be nice to have a specific day for them.
I love Linda so much! She is very kind and really cares about her students. She always responded to my emails very quickly and gave really good advice! She was my only class with actual lectures on Bongo and it really helped. Easily my favorite course and favorite prof. Her slideshows are a little bit vague though, so textbook use is needed!
Dr. Cohen is a very kind-hearted and caring professor. She is very helpful and explains each topic very well. This was one of my first university classes and she made it very enjoyable.
I loved professor Cohen. She responds quick to emails and genuinely wants you to do well in her call. Shes also a very caring womans. Pay attention to her lectures and youll do well in her course !
Dr. Cohen is one of the best professors at MUN. She's not a tough grader and she makes class discussion interesting. Sociology 2270 was my favourite class in such an unpredictable semester. I found the textbook really helpful as she uses class and text material for discussion posts and exams.
Linda is an amazing professor and Ive taken many courses by her. She really cares for her students and is very clear about what she is looking for.
Best prof, easy grader and really nice. Easy A if you show up and do what's assigned.
Linda is the best easiest going prof you will meet. She wants all her students to succeed in her courses. I recommend 100%!!
Dr. Cohen is easily one of the best profs at MUN. She is very caring and easily reached. Very on the ball and listens to students concerns! She always provides clear feedback and the course load is typical/fairly easy.
The best prof I have ever had. She wants all her students to excel and it shows. She is easy to reach and will help you in whatever way she can. The course was enjoyable and was a fairly light course load that was super manageable because of how well she taught it. Would 100% recommend!
One midterm 30%, participation/discussion 35%, final exam 35%. Prof responded quickly to emails. Textbook was required to do well. M/C on exams asked the smallest, most insignificant stats. Discussions were graded like English essays, deducting marks for the slightest error in MLA/APA reference. This was not participation, more like weekly tests.
Dr. Cohen is amazing! I wish she taught all the required courses I need. Her online content is well organized. She gives reminders, responds quickly. Tests are usually MC/TF and one long answer (all text based) along with mini assignments. Read all parts of the chapter, look over stats and block stories, use references, and you will do well.
Love his Prof. Online modules organized. Very clear on expectations. She gives reminders, responds quickly. Tests are usually MC/TF and one long answer (all text based) along with assignments. Read all parts of the chapter, look over stats and block stories, use references, and you will do well.
My favourite prof in 3+ years at MUN. Her non-on-campus courses usually consist of midterms, finals, discussion posts, and 2-3 easy mini assignments. Fairly easy grader, midterms are usually mc/tf and final is mc/tf/1 long answer q. She cares for students and tries her best to ensure they do well. Readings can be long but she makes them enjoyable.
such an amazing, intelligent woman. lectures are well done. never tests on material that isnt discussed in class. very helpful and truly wants all of her students to succeed. highly recommend!
Linda is the sweetest prof. She is very understanding, and is very accommodating. She loves in class participation, but does not penalize you for missing lectures or not participating. Lectures can feel a bit uninteresting but she tries her best to use updated material for the class to relate and make connections to.
I have her this semester and she is amazing. Definitely very caring and respectful. Responds fast and always strives for you to do your best.
Her classes were easy to follow and she felt like a welcoming person. the midterms were online which meant grades were easy to get. there were small, weekly participation activities and the occasional paper or bibliography. I would highly recommend this course because it was simple and stress free.
I took this course online so I didn't really have an opportunity to get to know Dr. Cohen. However, my experience with her has been terrific. She seems very kind and all evaluations and grading had been fair. I recommend this course and prof if you are looking for an easy elective.
Dr. Cohen is a very sweet person. She answers emails very quickly and will help you with anything you need. I took this course online therefore there were no lectures. The textbook is a must. She is a fairly easy grader and gives clear rubrics and feedback. It is very easy to do well. Her exam questions have no tricks in them either. I recommend!
Really good prof, definitely recommend for any course
dr. cohen is great. there's only a few assignments in the course, with clear grading criteria. there's participation activities online but they're simple. you need to read the textbook thoroughly. her midterms were online. she is a great mixture of professional but approachable. she's well spoken, knows what she's doing and has good lectures.
While Linda is overall a sweet professor, her lectures were incredibly difficult to listen to, she's frankly quite boring. My course included 2 mid terms, 1 final exam, various group discussion posts, and a few research projects.
Dr. Cohen is an absolute gem. Gives amazing feedback on all assignments, wants to see her students succeed, always responded to emails within a couple hours. Her exams can be very difficult, you truly have to know the textbook inside and out in order to do well. Course consisted of discussion posts, midterm, final, and three written assignments
Could not view most of the slideshows after class which is simply inconvenient if you were to fall sick at any point.
Dr. Cohen is very nice and fair. Her lectures were quite dry, I found them hard to listen to but she is willing to answer questions and help you understand. Very textbook heavy, almost everything tested was from the book, which I also found kind of dry to read. There were frequent discussion posts, some research assignments, 2 midterms and a final.
I needed to fill an elective, so I took this course. Unfortunately, out of every science course I have taken, including organic chem, this course was extremely dry. Slides have little to no information and you have to rely on your textbook, which is also long-winded and boring. Midterms are difficult as the applied knowledge is far out.
Linda Cohen is a great prof. Although I took a course with her online, she was always checking up on her students, and encouraging them along the way through announcements and classwide emails. It is clear she cares about her students and wants to see them do well! Highly recommend!
Such a great professor. Really enjoyed taking her class and would recommend. 35% of the grade was for weekly discussion posts. That kept me on track with the material, so I liked that format. She is very kind and wants her students to do well.
She is very accessible and easy to contact. Super understanding with deadlines and caring about students well-being. She grades very fairly, only thing is this course is heavily text book based so be prepared to read and write a significant amount for discussion posts.
Dr. Cohen does a beautiful job with her lectures. As long as you attend classes, you should know everything you need for the midterms and final exams. She provided excellent feedback on assignments which were also well explained and appropriately spaced out to minimize stress. She provides extra readings and video explanations as well.
Linda was very funny and made jokes throughout lectures. Everything was online, midterm and exam included. She was able to be reached outside of classes and provided lots of things other then the textbook and PowerPoints to help students understand lecture content. She gave us brief outlines on the testing topics and format. Overall, she was great!
Great prof, very concise in how she graded and provided detailed rubrics and feedback. she isn't super engaging but she is very understanding towards deadlines and grades. personally, i did not like the course as it just wasn't of my interest but i would definitely take Linda again in another course.
Dr. Cohen is great. The course itself (online) requires a large amount of reading, and making good notes to study from based on the readings is crucial to do well in the midterm and final exams. Discussions were straightforward, grading seemed fair throughout the whole course. Super nice and caring person. Would take her again.
Save yourselves
I am currently taking Soc2040 with Linda this semester and she is lovely. Participation matters for this class as it is worth 10% of your final grade, but if you can't make it to class there are alternates available. The workload wasn't too heavy at all and the midterms were easy. As long as you study the PowerPoints you will do fine! 10/10
Overall a good prof, easy to get along with and not a heavy workload (for this course at least). Grades assignments pretty quickly and fairly!
I 10/10 do NOT recommend Linda Cohen for Sociology! If you live outside of the St. John's/City area, I suggest you find a different professor.
Professor Cohen's lectures can be dry, but she's happy to clarify concepts. The course is textbook-heavy, with discussion posts, research assignments, and exams. To stay on top, try using unstuck study alongside the textbook.
A lot of work compared to main courses. Discussion posts every week, very picky grader. Textbook is needed. Midterm and final are in person and have long answers. Class average on midterm was just above a fail.
Linda Cohen is a very good and very caring professor, she uses a grading scale for your assignments, which I've never seen before but it's pretty cool. Gives excellent feedback in areas you can improve on so you can boost your grade. Will check up on you if she senses there is anything wrong. 100% recommend.
Linda is a great professor and I would enjoy taking another class taught by her. Linda is very knowledgeable and always willing to help her students. The course material can be tedious, but she adds personal experiences to her lectures to make them interesting. There are small assignments, and all tests are multiple choice with one long answer.
I love Linda Cohen.
Her discussion posts are very thought-provoking and interesting. She provides valuable feedback on all assignments and never overloads you with work. There are never multiple things due in one week. I love taking her classes.
She's really sweet and easy to understand, she does do occasional group work with assigned groups but that was the only bad thing i could say about her and her course. She took attendance but for our own benefit, if you were there for the majority of the classes she'd drop the lower of your two midterms. Would definitely recommend
I loveeee herrrrrr! Midterms were all very fair to the slide shows, little group work (it's not bad!) she does take attendance but she drops your lowest midterm grade if you make it to majority of the classes which is an amazing deal to me! Loved her lectures, quite interesting amazing teacher
She is a great prof!
