Hard class, lots of homework, picks on every student in class for hw answers, but if you do the hw and stick to lectures its actually okay.
Very good teacher who is into what she does and loves to teach it. Lot of work and time put into this class. Easy if you show up and participate.
Gives lots of homework. She is not very helpful when asking questions about homework, the class pretty much gives the answers to the homework she assigns. If you work then I would not recommend taking her because she gives out lots of homework.
I had an awful time in her class.I felt like I was in high all over again.Required seating chart.Picked on you to answer HW questions. Note to Linda: WE ARE IN COLLEGE and at City we all have jobs!Hard class if you have a job. Lots of HW.Tests are killers
she is enjoying what she is doing. she cares about students' performance. you have to do all the HW, then you can get an A. When ever I can take from her, I will. Her goal is to have every of us get an "A". need math background.
i hate to take her class. i don't want to take her class anymore. i droped her class coz she push us too hard. and i don't like the way she teach, looks like she is teaching in china. ><"
Worst class ever . I still have nightmares. FYI I took her class got a D(only D i ever got) Took this class and Mang Acct at SJSU and got B's. I would take this class with another prof or at another school unless you have 10hrs a week for HW.
Assigns more homework than necessary, she makes it feel like rocket science. Is very insensitive to students' circumstances(jobs/children) This is a JC not Yale.
i hated her. she wasnt helpful. did not give extra credit. talks like she's been on crack all day. gives way too much homework. does not help when you ask for it. she drives me crazy. its not an easy class to pass unless you already know what you're doing.
Shes tought if you dont study but if you pay attention you will do fine. Her test might seem hard but if you study your homework then no problem.
Just do your homework and you can get at least a "b" It's not an easy class if you don't at least try to do your homework. For all you who hated her, you should have done your home work, I had her for ACCt 21 and it was great. she is not harsh!!
hard teacher fun class though but not for slackers. you have to study a lot
terrible. because of her i changed major.
Wow, she is tough, but she is really good on the way she teachs. I took both her classes, and got both A. I mean you have to study hard on her class, get done HW and review handout, you will be ok. I like doing project, kind of fun in accounting class that I never expect. Have enjoy
Accounting is not the easiest subject in the world for the uninitiated. Though she gets a bit frazzled at times, she is willing to help and is very understanding if you let her know what sorts of issues you are having. She tries very hard to impart the material, but isn't always aware of why some people find it difficult.
very nice lady, teaches very well. Easy material. she does assign lots of hw, but if you keep up with it, should be no problem in the class. Would recommend her to anyone !
She was a really good instructor. Just do all the homework, and its an easy passing grade. You wont be able to pass if the homework is not completed. She is helpful, and is willing to make sure you understand. I recommend her.
Very easy class! She teaches so well that I didn't have to try. Material is very very EASY to understand. HW is mandatory, easy, and will help you understand everything for the exams. Like I said, Easy class. She is a nice lady too. Got an A in both of her classes. Highly recommened.
She may be a good teacher, but she is NOT a good person. Unapproachable and very partial. She has her favorites and I wasn't one. I had a problem with another student who made racial comments in class and guess whose side Ms. Ferell took?
Hahaha... I guess I was one of her "favorites" got an A in both her classes. Lots of work, but easy if you try. Highly recommended
She tells you what is going to be on the exam weeks ahead of time. Pay attention to her printed handouts as that what the exam is on. Take her if you want to learn accounting. She makes a hard subject easy.
Mrs Ferral is a very nice lady. Friendly, and very good at teaching. The key to doing well in her class is do all the homework assignments, and show up to class on time. If you can do that, the exams are not as difficult as most people here make 'em sound seeing as the problems on the exams are very similar to what's on the homework assignments. Hi
It should be mandatory for every teacher to attend her class to see "how to teach". The best instructor I have ever had. Attend class, get the homework and group points everyday and follow her printouts for what is on the tests and you will get an "A". It's really easy to put the effort into this class because she makes learning it effortless.
Tough cookie. Stickler.
Had her for 2 semesters. She makes me understand acctg. Very fair to all students. I did the homework, listened in class, and reviewed the guide to the exams. I got A's both times! She was nice to everyone. You have to do the homework though and listen in class as she gives you all answers.
Not sure if she has changed since I last took her class back in 2003. Teaching: Good on the job and makes the class interesting and easy Personality: Terrible. Played favorites and was mean to some students but extra nice to others. Couldn't stand her back then. I am honest -- she is a good teacher but not a good person.
Great professor. She is clear with what she expects from you at the beginning of the semester and doesn't play games or favorites. Homework is key to understanding the class as well as study groups! I got an A on the first test and a C+ on te second and still have 100+% Very kind lady.
She is a great instructor. I'd recommend it to every student.
I don't understand any of the negative comments posted here. Mrs. Ferrell is one of the nicest instructors I've ever had. The group style of teaching is extremely helpful. I had her for Financial accounting in the summer and managerial this fall. I got an A in both classes but even if I didn't I would still recommend her.
You always know exactly what your grade is with Mrs. Ferrell, the webCT part of the class is great. Lots of homework, you must do it to succeed in this class. Tests are challenging, if you keep up in class and do the home work you'll do well. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss too many classes you won't do well. Liked the instructor, she's fair.
She is by far one of the best teachers at San Jose City College. I have had her for both accounting classed and got a A in both. She sets the class in a way that makes you learn. She is gives a lot of work but as long as you attend class and do your work...and study you will do well..shes the best!
I took Accounting 20 and 21 from Ms. Ferrell. I was at City for 2 years & she was by far the BEST teacher I had! You have to answer hw questions for participation points. Each class has a project. Project for 21 is SUPER fun! I'm am not an acct major but I'm at SCU & her classes more than prepared me for classes like finance. Take Ms. Ferrell!
This is a hard class, so much to cover and lots of deatails, but Ferrell is one of the best teahers I've ever had. She makes sure you learn, with homework, inclass work, etc. Its hard work. She's tough, like a drill seargent, but when you get the matterial down and get a GPA boosting grade, you'll thank her for it! I did.
She is great at explaining things in class so you understand. Quizzes are onlne, have to be done before the exams. The class is easy until you get to Chapter 10. No more than 2 absences and she'll replace your lowest test grade with a better grade, have to do an annual report in a group...the class in a lot of work, so study and you'll do fine!
Good, solid professor. She explains things well, has lots of expirience in the field and is friendly.
If you want to learn accounting, she is amazing. She has great handouts and great examples. But you have to attend class and do homework! She really made me love accounting.
Very good teacher. Gives study guides for all her exams, open book quizzes, h.w every day but only worth a few points. Be sure to do well on her midterms because final is cumulative and pretty difficult. READ THE BOOK and you'll be fine. Very fair and almost always posts grades the day of exams. Will definitely take her for acc 21
Accounting is easy, BUT it can be confusing. Ms. Ferrell is a very helpful teacher and to prove my point, she asks, "Any questions?" about 20x a day. Attendance is important. Summer is intense but manageable. Do the homework and study her handouts. She tells you EXACTLY what will be on her exams. Hint: She loves when her students ask her questions.
Ms. Ferrell is a great professor! She is by far the best teacher I have ever had. She explain topic very clear, which makes accounting easier and interesting. Accounting has alot of stuff to it so she requires a lot of work but it is not hard! All you have to do is to do homework and study from her handouts and you will do good in the class!
THE BEST ACCOUNTING TEACHER you can ever get. I transferred to a prestigious university from SJCC &continue with Business/Acctg major, and yet to find anyone better than her. A teacher of such caliber & quality is a rare find at a community college. My best piece of advice: attend ALL lectures and do ALL h/w & you'll get an A with flying colors
Mrs Ferill is a great teacher who really cares about her students, BUT that said, she just does not have the time to help her students who might be struggling a bit. When you ask a question in class she does answer it but very quickly and really does not like questions to be asked. Yes she does ask "any questions 20 times in her class, but when yo
A really great professor! There's alot of effort that needs to be put into this class, but the outcome will be rewarding. She's the kind of professor that wants to see all her students pass, and has students do exercises so that acct stuff can be applied. I would definitely recommend her!
She is very straight forward and helps u in front of the class which I think helps the whole class.
She is the best teacher!! I would have never thought that I would like accounting, this class made me change my major. This class does take a lot of work you have homework like everyday except on test days but the homework really helps so that you know what is going on. As long as you do all of the homework the tests are not so hard.
One of the best teachers I have had in awhile. She knows what she is doing and will make sure you will also know what you are doing by the end of the semester.
she is one of the best professor to have. she knows her material, organized, and always keeps her word. She gives a lot of successful tips on college and life. Do the homeworks and youll most likely get an A.
She's the best of the best. She'll make you learn and get good grade. A nice and caring teacher.
I've never met such a good teacher like her. She's well organized, on time, caring, you'll never forget about her. Definitely going to visit her sometimes.
I don't like accounting but have to take it for my major. She made the course interesting and worth attending each lecture. Be prepared to work hard. But if you do the reading and assignments you can get A or B.
I had no interest in accounting and had to take 20 & 21 for my major. I not only learned the material but actually enjoyed it in the end. Excellent Instructor!!!
Excellent class!! Do ur hw and u will do well in class!!! Plus the final project is so fun.
Super hard. She is like a drill sergeant. Better yet, like a personal trainer. Once she's done with you, you will thank her for everything you've learned. In the meanwhile, you will not have a life. If you can afford the time and effort, her class is well worth it.
Shes definitely hard but in most cases she makes sure you understand the material before she goes on to the next topic. Favors group work and thats another plus if you dont understand the work. MUST DO: all homework/work, quizzes, and attend all classes. do all 4 and you should pass with at least a B.
She's gives a lot of homework, she's rude and is very anal about everything, but if you want to learn the subject she's a good teacher in that perspective. If you do the homework and the group work you can pass the class pretty easily.
She is hard but good at what she does! MUST DO: all homework prior to class to be able to keep up with her because she goes over it very fast, attend all her classes or you will miss a lot of point because of group work. Overall, Great teacher not easy though. Must work really hard to get an A.
Wow this class was way too much! She has you doing chapters up to the last day. This has been the MOST stressful class for me and anyone that takes her class must have all the time in the world to just study for her class bc she gives out so much hw and calls on people everyday. Worst class every!! Do not take her! I feel she gets the pleasure to s
SHE IS DIFFICULT IF YOU DON'T KEEP UP OR ATTEND CLASS. SHE'S MODERATE IF YOU TRY. BE ON TIME BECAUSE SHE STARTS RIGHT AWAY AND GETS MAD. DO ALL YUR HOMEWORK TO GET POINTS OR ELSE YOU'LL LOSE POINTS. PRINT OUT YOUR CLASS NOTES. TAKE HER. SHE IS STRAIGHT FORWARD. GET ON HER GOOD SIDE. GIVES STUDY GUIDES,
She is nice and very quick with her grading. You will know your grade within a day or two. To get an A , you mustn : come to class everyday/do all the homework to be able to keep up/study hard/read the assigned chapters before class/ be on time. Good luck!
Prof.Ferrel is one of the most organized and clear instructors I have ever had. Although you have to learn a lot of information at a fast pace, she makes it possible by providing useful useful examples, clear explanations, and an adequate amount and type of homework. Additionally, she is very friendly and polite.I highly recommend this instructor.
I took managerial and financial accounting with her. She goes pretty fast. She will pick on u for answers but u can pass if u don't know. I got B's in both. Just look at the study guide a few weeks and study that!!! It's almost if not exactly the same ! Lots of homework but reasonable . Good luck everyone
Professor Ferrell is one of the best instructors at SJCC. Although her class is not a piece of cake, it is manageable. I took managerial, business law plus 8 more units and I didn't have a problem, while still working. If you have trouble memorizing the study guides she gives you before the exams, then maybe you should consider a different major.
I have absolutely no complaints on Professor Ferrell. She explains everything well and willing to help in great extent. Her exams are both multiple choice and fill-ins. I got a C, but still recommend her for your Accounting classes. Her classes fill up quick so that is a good sign she is really good.
First off, the people saying she assigns too much hw, welcome to actual college. Prof. Ferrel is awesome. Her objective is clear from the beginning and she has a syllabus with all the dates the first day you walk in. All the hw is to help learn the material. I never studied for a test in this class because I did the hw. Easy A if you attend class.
Professor Ferrell was the reason that I went into Accounting. She was challenging but very clear. Do your homework and read the book sections before each class. You have to attend class, participate, take notes and in general just pay attention. Well worth the effort! Received A's in both courses.
Hardest class I have taken at SJCC. Linda is very tough and to the point. She wants everything done her way. You must do the homework even though she doesn't collect it. You must do the group work also as they are worth many points. She's kind of rude and answers very strictly to questions. She is also very fast paced.
Mrs. Ferrell is a tough teacher, however if you do all your homework, quizzes and study hard for midterms and final then you shouldn't have any excuse not to pass the class. She gives you all the materials you need to understand each chapter all you have to do is do your own reading in order to understand it better and to fully grasp the concept.
Lots of homework expected, Fast paced, impatient, no time to be wrong, explains nothing when you get something wrong just tells you its wrong, high blood pressure, OCD, belittles, 50% of the class will spend as much or more time with the tutor. Tutor was better than teacher. Expects people in your class who only know as much as you to teach you.
Ms. Ferrell is very straightforward. She expects a strong commitment from her students because that's the only way to succeed the course. She's also really organizing. Just don't ever skip her words, skip her classes, and you will ace the course like a piece of cake.
I took Acc21 and let me tell you it was the hardest class ever. Attendance is mandatory and she will drop you if you miss more than two class sessions. The tests are not hard as longs as you do all the assignments. Overall she is a good yet strict teacher, but don't ask her for help, ask your classmates.
Professor Ferrell is very well-organized. It is not an easy class, but she gives you different kinds of materials to learn.
This class was the reason I went into accounting. Thats quality! Its difficult, you need to put in consistent effort every class period so you do not fall behind. If your good at it you'll love it. If you are struggling exhaust every resource before seeing the teacher, she is the last resort, don't waste her time! Take groupsserious best testreview
Ms. Ferrell is one of a kind. She truly cares about her students. You will learn a lot from her class. It makes sense that an accounting course has a lot of homework because practice makes it perfect. Do not skip any class because it will be difficult to catch up if you missed one lecture. Good luck!
Professor Ferrell is one of a kind. She is very knowledgable because she's a former CPA, so she obviously knows her stuff. This was my first business class and she made me fall in love with accounting. She gives a lot of homework but of course it really helps. She can be a little rude when giving feedback, but in the end students figure things out.
Group work is mandatory for her course, but it's also key to do really well in your homework and exams. I took her for two courses, and I think she's the best at SJCC.
Took her for managerial and financial accounting. She was awesome. There is a lot of homework but she provides plenty of practice solutions that help you prepare for the tests. As long as you show up for class and do the work you will be prepared for her exams, there are no surprises and you always know what your grade is at any point. Highly recom
i love Linda. i took both her accounting classes, and both were great. she might tough at first and gave a lot of hw, but they were so useful for the tests. she also makes you work in group for every single class to practice all the lectures, and that is the main and easy way for you to learn for the tests. overall, i love her work. highly recommend
Ms. Ferrell is really knowledgeable about accounting and I have no doubt she knows what shes teaching. For me personally the class was extremely dificult. Whenever I had a question and would ask her her response was i dont know, you tell me. I think this class might be manageable and passable if you do your homework & really dedicate your time.
Great professor, knowledgeable, lots of homework, must show up to classes or you'll fall behind.
Linda is one of the best professors I've had at SJCC. I took both of her Accounting classes and started to enjoy the subject, despite not being an Accounting major. She can be tough and may seem impatient at times. But she just likes getting things done! She also grades very fast, normally the same day as the test and she is extremely organized.
she is so strict and very difficult. everyone in the class were struggling. every time you ask her a question she would get upset. her homework are tough too! she doesn't tell you how to do homework. you have to find answers by yourself!
Linda is the best! You can tell she's very passionate about accounting. She does a lot of group work which helps you a lot when it comes to learning the material and also prepares you for exams. There's homework due every day you come into class but it honestly helps you understand and practice what she taught in class.
Don't do it you ll regret it. Not worth it trust me I'm taking the time out of my day to write this so you know its real. This teacher is insane trips off of everything
Took Account 21 with Mrs. Ferrell and I believe she is an amazing teacher. She goods good lectures, gives out a decent amount of homework, and knows what she's doing. Make sure you do your homework because she will ask you your answers during class in order to get points on it.
-Does not cater toward multiple learning styles -wants you to get all right on the first try -rushes through students instead of making sure everyone understands during group work -does know her subject -fast paced -did make me cry by getting worked up over small mistake & embarrasses you in front of class.
She cares about her student's success and will help along the way. If you show up to class you will be provided with multiple tools/ways to pass the class. Lots of homework and in class group projects that will contribute to your final grade. Accounting itself is hard but miss Ferrell will make it as easy as possible
She was great the group work assignments make the topics easy to understand. She gives a lot of good explanations and is very patient
I am taking this class through Zoom. She is very open to questions, allowing us to interrupt her lecture. She is incredibly organized. I know exactly which dates homework, quizzes, and exams are due and when she will review specific reading from the textbook.
Professor Ferrell's Financial Accounting course is difficult. However, the class is extremely fair. Anyone who completes all homework assignments, actively participates in group activities, and reviews the study guide will be completely prepared for the exams and earn an A. Take this professor to truly learn and master the basics of accounting.
Had her for both acc 20 and 21 online lectures. Calendar mapped out for the whole semester which shows what's due & what she'll be teaching that day. The work itself is fairly easy as you get multiple tries for hw & quizzes which means even if you made a mistake you can fix it and still get an A. Very willing to help and super kind during lectures.
I suggest taking this Professor for all accounting classes if possible. She takes time to educate the students on topics and is willing to give examples and re-explain if youre confused.
This could be because I took the same subject at a different college, but this class felt boring. I was okay with zoom classes but they would be kept quiet in the background. It's not that difficult, but her style of lecture is what keeps my rating low. The exam/quiz questions are actually not too hard, but can be confusing to read at times.
Great professor. She tries hard to help student understand the course materials and her lectures are designed very well.
She used WileyPlus cost $69, the homework is easy but a lot. Prof did post video to make summary lesson easy. You can just watch her video and skip the whole text book thing and still ace on all the homework and quiz. The exam has ton of filled in Answer but making sure every single calculation is accurately.
She is a demanding professor who gives a lot of homework; in an exam, she can complicate and confuse the question so much that the logic of the task will be meaningless. Respects those who study hard. Despite all the difficulties, she is an objective professor and gives a fair grades.
Professor Ferrell is knowledgeable, but the lectures are fast paced and could be confusing especially when she's reviewing examples but referencing the incorrect concept. If you have time to read the textbook and practice on your own or in a group, you'll be ok. The homework and exams are not too difficult, but it is a time-consuming class.
Really chill, Professor Ferrell is very understanding and caring of her students. It's a lot of reading but her exams are easy.
Mrs. Farrell is an excellent teacher. Her lectures were thorough and covered our homework problems. I understood homework without any issues after lectures and examples given during lectures. She was also very prompt to respond to questions via email. If you need to take ACCTG 021, do not hesitate to take her, you will do well.
