She has high expectations, but she's very willing to help students. I don't like English, but this is workable for me.
Interestng, funny, helpful. Pushes you to achieve but likeable.
She makes you think outside of the box.
I'm taking this class because I have to but I enjoy it thanks to her. The time flies by, and I really feel I'm learning. Highly recommend.
Easy A just show up when writing assignments are due. Take the time for the writing lab (+5 extra points and they correct most of your mistakes.) Very few assignments & most grades are A's if you put any effort into it; Class is managable; very passionate about english though so be prepared for that
Very encouraging teacher...she really cares about her students' success...i definitely recommend her!
Enthusiastic, prepared, knows a lot. Very willing to help all students. However, don't be late and don't be a slacker. Highly recommend.

Interesting and enjoyable--she'll go out of her way to help you ace the class if you put forth any effort at all, but she has no tolerance for slackers. Dont be late either.
Take her she is the best
This professor is absolutely brilliant! I fell in love with her right off the bat. She is a great role model and very passionate about her job. Don't take her if you are lazy. She will nail you. But, most wonderful TJC professor ever!!!!!! Do not leave TJC and Jenkins Hall without her under your belt.
She is awesome!! She is very enthusiastic, well prepared, and organized. As long as you go to class and do the work you will make an A. As long as you study for her tests you will do fine. In the beginning it is hard and boring but as the semester continues it gets easier and more interesting. Take her!!
i have nothing but good things to say about her. she loves her job and makes the subject fun. all homework is worth while. you have to make extra time to go to the writing lab but if you do you wont make anything less than a B. she goes out of her way to help students. i recommend her. if you put in any effort at all you will probably get an A.
She's the best! I got sick and missed assigments, but when I told her, she worked with me to catch me up to speed. I was ready to drop, but she encouragd me to stay in the class. Take her.
The class is overall easy, however doing the work and doing it right is Dr.Gary's policy. Assignments can never be late, if you want to learn, wright essays like a pro,and you are willing to avoid laziness take this teacher. Assignments are long and time consuming but its all common sense. After taking this class writing essays will be a breeze.
Comments on this site are correct, do the attend class, do the work and study, you will do fine. Very knowledgeable and helpful, great professor.
If you are into essays this is the class for you. I took this instructors online class for Humanaties 1301. I was suprised that one third of the test grade is based on a subjective essay. This class was harder than I anticipated since I am not an english major. The other 2/3rds of the test questions are from multiple choice test reviews.
She gives you the essay questions in advance and all tests/assignments are straight from the book, the online lectures, and other course stuff. Goes out of her way to help students be successful. But it is college level, so yes, you have to do the work.
If you are ready to get serious about English and writing, she is a very good teacher. Also teaches at the university level, so she is very strict on you as the student doing your part. She is very approachable, and will help you if you need it. Just do your part and you will have a good experience!
Keep in mind that when you're enrolled in this class, she fully expects you to treat it like an all-out college course. She is extremely helpful and understanding. Just show up on time and don't get behind on the reading assignments!
Hard College level work but she is great teacher. The Spring online class is well thought out and she is always their to help you with online note, study guides, outline. I mean she gives it all to you...their is no wondering what to study in her online class.Great teacher!
Dr. Gary is awesome! She is a great teacher and she makes Humanities interesting. Warning though, her requirements are that you ATTEND class and that you give her elaborate college answers....but you can BS your way through most of it...you just cant give her once liners....but shes one of the best teachers Ive ever had at TJC!
Dr. Gary is one of the most intelligent people I know. She teaches with such skill. I LOVED her class. I could wait to get up and go to my 8:00 English. Warning: If you want to use your cell phone or slack off she is not for you unless you want to shape up.Tip: For those of you who actually want to learn she will bend over backwards to help you!
HORRIBLE! Do not take if you want an easy A. I Worked harder in this class than any class, ever before and barely got an A.
I didn't expect to like the class, but I did. I'm taking the second semester because Dr. gary is a good teacher and I've become interested in it. It's not an "easy A" but the work is reasonable, adn she's helpful. Look, this is college, and no class should be easy. I earned my grade and it feels even better because I worked for it.
If you are thinking about taking her for a Maymester? RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! ;-P Seriously an EXTREME amount of work. Tests are in testing center AND an essay. The final is comprehensive. She answers emails quickly tho :-/
I just finished the Maymester, and the class and the prof were great! It's not easy b/c a Maymester is short and fast, timewise and workwise. The course expectations are high--absolutly college level. But Dr. Gary is helpful and encouraging. As a returning student, I appreciated it. Serious students will like her a lot! Slackers go elsewhere.
Even though I am not interested in any Roman culture stuff whatsoever, this class was fairly easy. Very straight to point on what she wants. If you do the work and put somewhat of an effort into you can make an A. Test are easy and essays are very straight forward. Good teacher, just a boring subject.
Dr. Gary I thought was very nice. I liked her class more than all but one of my other ones this semester. It is very informative if you like learning about other cultures. She is very helpful and straight foward on what you need to do. I don't think her class is hard but she does expect you to put forth an effort and act like a college student.
Dr. Gary is an amazing professor and has a great amount of knowledge for the humanities and tells it so well. I have greatly improved my knowledge for history with the help of this class and her enthusiasm for teaching it.
I am so grateful that I chose Dr. Gary as my Enlgish professor for both semesters of my first year of college. She's an amazing teacher because she makes writers for a lifetime not only a semester.
I was very worried about such a short class. With all the material that had to be covered in just 3 weeks, I think the layout of the course was by far the best I have taken at TJC. Lots of helpful material plus challenging and in depth discussions. I can say that I have learned more in this class and retained it than in most of my other electives.
Dr. Gary is a great teacher who has influenced me more then she can imagine. She and Dr. Peter Jones are educators I will not dare to forget!
Dr. Gary was by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. I took Humanities 1301 on the Internet and there was a lot of work. As long as you do everything you are supposed to and you study the guides and you know how to write essays the correct way you should do good. If you do not like to read the internet class may not be for you! I enjoyed!
By far the most helpful internet teacher I have ever had, I appreciate everything!
A great professor! I really enjoyed this class and the inspiring emails. I definitely learned a lot from this class.
This course was so fun! I learned alot and enjoyed the discussions very much. I am taking her for the second part next semester. :) If I have learned one thing this semester it is critical thinking, and I hope that i have excelled at it.
Very demanding on the essay prtion of the exams make sure to read eveey bit of textbook required for each exam if taking online make sure you dont have a job or a life in order to make in her online class you must have time to fit it in during a 3 week semester
Very clear on what she expects and how she wants work done. Answers emails promptly and is encouraging and helpful. This isn't a blow off class. Be prepared to do the reading and to put forth effort. You'll earn your grade,it won't be handed to you. I didn't expect to enjoy the class, but I did.
Challenges students by pushing us to learn beyond the course material, to use our imaginations and feel part of the history--truly rewarding. I have a stronger appreciation for diverse cultures and beliefs, why and how our society is shaped, as well as the endless search for the answers of human existence. Thank you, thank you and thank you :)
Took the hybrid class and it was great. Profs interesting and passionate about the subject. Very clear about expectations but also very helpful and approachable. The work is challenging but very doable. Recommend.
Thank you for all you have invested into our class. Although to be honest Humanities is not my cup of tea you have made it interesting and I have enjoyed your class. It has challenged me which is something I appreciate.
Made this class interesting and very helpful! It has helped me a lot in writing discussions for my other classes as well as doing the essay part on tests; a joy to listen to in lectures.
I have really enjoyed the class this semester, it was definitely my most interesting, thought provoking course that I had the pleasure of taking this year. Her teaching style is awesome and it is plain to see that she are extremely passionate about the material we covered. Recommend!
The first, college-level teacher I’ve had that truly seems to care about her students and their success; not only in Humanities 1301 but in life as well. Her encouraging words and continuous praise played a big role in keeping me focused and determined to put forth nothing short of my very best throughout this course. An amazing teacher!!
Class was hard! a lot of reading! and test was very hard!
I had made up my mind to drop the class, but thanks to a caring teacher like Dr. Gary who thought enough to call and come up with a solution. ________________________________________
Dr. Gary is a great professor. She taught me a lot more than just lessons for Humanities, and I appreciate the things I've learned from her.
Grades too hard for an online class. Have to go to the campus too many times for an ONLINE class. Not recommended.
She is a VERY tough grader, she counts off major points for small punctuationspelling errors. One semi bad grade on an assignment can easily drop your overall grade by 10+ points. She expects you to know the whole book and every small detail. Each test has an essay. Ive always had A's and B's but don't think I'll pass this class. Do not take her.
Yes, there's a lot of reading, but she tells you that from the beginning, and after all, it's a college class and online. So what do you expect. She answers questions quickly and provides clear instructions and expectations. Slackers should beware, but real college students will get a lot out of it.
The course is challenging but reasonable considering the subject. I enjoyed it and the prof.
Very helpful. She conferences with students and goes over their research papers line by line, helping you to understand whats wrong and eliminate the mistakes before you turn it in. I enjoyed the class and the instructor.
Good class, good instructor.
I wanted to take a moment to convey to you my true gratitude for your sincere dedication to your profession. It has been obvious to me since the first week that you truly love what you do, as well as possess a love for your subject. You have made the class seem nearly effortless, and that in turn made the class more enjoyable!
I am still so happy about my grade. This class was fantastic!
If you do your work and take time in doing it right it's an easy A! I hated humanities and hated her work but once I got done with it I realized it wasn't that bad. Her test are way easy. Exactly like the reviews. Btw if you take the chapter quizzes online 90% of it are questions for the test reviews! Remember you still have to put effort in class
The test questions are taken directly from her chapter reviews. Fill out the chapter reviews and look over them for 30 minutes and you will pass her tests easy. There is a good amount of busy work and an essay due with every test but you can use your book for the essays. I got a 96 on the final exam and 100 on the final essay.
Dr. Gary was an amazing professor. I took this class online thinking I would be bored out of my mind with Humanities. WRONG. It was the only college class that I have ever taken in my two years of attending that I enjoyed the material. Do the study guides and there is no way to fail the test. I definitely recommend!
I took this class online, but I wasn't a fan. It required a lot of reading, and the tests were objective + comprehensive. For a class that I truly had no interest in, I hated it. She's the head of the dept, and will have no mercy on you. I wouldn't take her again.
Dr. Gary has been the most encouraging, supportive professor I have ever experienced during my college experience. She is a great asset to the educational field.
Professor Gary, and her supplemental material. She was very positive and encouraging. While adhering to the guideline restrictions and curriculum for this class, she found a way to add to your interest and self confidence.
I was concerned about the revision process of my research paper for this course. Thankfully, the professor communicated with us that she was more than happy to meet with us individually during her office hours to discuss the paper before turning in a final draft. This helped greatly and I learned how to approach revision effectively.
Effective and interesting parts of this course included the professor challenging the students to write at a college level instead of brushing aside errors and lack of in-depth analysis or discussions. I also found it helpful that she required us to read background information over the author's we read works from and the time periods of the works.
Personally, I feel this is one of the best English courses I have taken on a collegiate level so far. No improvements, that I can think of, can be made.
I absolutely loved this class. It is a reading intensive course, no way around it, but Professor Gary gives every opportunity to succeed. She is quick to respond to emails and is very clear on her expectations. I took this as an internet course and loved it. Her inspirational words throughout the semester helped me continue. Take this class.
I enjoyed this class a lot! It definitely got my brain to work, but the whole class was set up extremely organized. It has been a while (almost 20 years) since I had talked about information that we discussed in this class, but I truly enjoyed the class and all her help and patience.
I like the outline of the online class. I can view my grades, my assignments and their due dates. It was easy to catch on. It is easy and to the point.
Great class!
great class, you will start out slow in trying to figure out whats going on, but as time go on you should love this class learn a lot and she was great took this class during the summer. had a lot of reading and writing but it became pretty easy later on. teacher was perfect.
My outlook on the course if you asked me before the semester started would be a blow off class. I was wrong. Humanities has not only made me question my responses, it has made me find and search a more profound meaning to the answer. It has challenged my knowledge to go steps further in summarizing, analyzing, and defining the answer itself.
Before the semester ends, I want to thank Professor Gary for being a person that students, like myself, can look up to. Her passion is truly contagious! She cares about her students and makes sure that you learn. Tough love, as I like to call it! ;-) I will remember this class and this teacher for a long time.
I had never studied many of these times and cultures before, so this was class was extremely interesting to me. I was nervous about taking an online class my first semester, but I'm glad I did and I'm glad it was hers. Your encouraging emails to the class were very helpful!
This professor is strict and will make it tough to recieve an A on most assignments. But if you're willing to spend an hour a day reading and studying, for this class alone, you'll be fine.
Don't expect to make a good grade in this class if you have a job or any ambitions outside of school. You literally have to read the whole textbook through this course, and quite a few of the answers can not even be found in there. Assignment questions are comprehensive and she is looking for very specific answers.
If you're not going to do the work, this isn't for you. It's the real deal, college wise, but it's interesting stuff. She goes out of her way to help you, but you gotta do the work.
Great class but not for slackers or those who expect an easy A. Great professor.
Offers words of encouragement and pushes students to excel beyond our comfort zone. Very supportive during the challenges my family and I faced this semester. I will forever cherish the study of Humanities and remember my awesome professor!
Dr. Gary was an exceptional professor. Took this class on-line in the spring, and made an A. Class is intense but well worth the study (lots of reading). Provides reviews for the tests. Sends out encouraging emails reinforcing her desire for her student's success. Felt like I took a trip around the world without leaving my home.
She can be intimidating, but this is really not a hard class. I took it online, made an A. She gives you all you need to make a good grade, even extra credit. If I had to I could take her again if I could. Recommend.
She gives you a week between assignments, but expects to turn in the day before or she takes off points. Her grading is difficult for the written assignments and the quiz essays. I never used the book, because she gives you the link for whatever assignment she assigns. A lot of the multiple choice questions can be found online. Its an easy class
You will need the textbook. Assignments are Internet-based, but the tests come straight from the textbook. She provides clear test reviews and directions. This is a true college-level course, but she's helpful and fair. No late work accepted. I actually enjoyed the subject and the class.
This is a challenging class but lots of reviews and helpful information are provided. She's very fair but she expects you to do the work as directed. I enjoyed the class and her.
Very clear on what is expected, and she's helpful. Answers emails quickly for an online class. The textbook is necessary. Interesting class.
She's awesome! I have already recommended her to fellow classmates!
I loved her. This was an online class, but she was always there if we had questions or concerns.
Great teacher, I learned a lot in this class on how to analyze and be more specific, detailed and in depth. She is a great professor and I would highly recommend her!
This has been an amazing class, and I have learned so much. When I chose this class I didn't really know what all it entailed. I have gone on an amazing journey through history while taking this class. Thank you so much!
I was dreading this class the most this semester, but it turned out to be one of my favorites since I have been enrolled and I will be graduating on Friday. It was a blessing to have her as my professor this semester.
SUPER good teacher that wants the best for her students.
She's awesome! I have already recommended her to fellow classmates! This was an online class, but she was always there if we had questions or concerns.
This is honestly my favorite course this semester. It challenges me to really find an explanation for things and it has helped me develop my writing tools. Overall this class has made me a better reader and writer.
This class has challenged me in ways I wasn't expecting and it was refreshing. Thank you for expecting something out of us and making us work for our grade. Anyways, thank you again. I've enjoyed this class and have recommended it to others.
This class has been so interesting and really made me dig deep on my assignments. I appreciate the time I have had in this class, so much that I have almost finished with a perfect 100. This will be one of the most memorable I have had during my college days.
This was challenging and FUN! I will continue to be a student of this subject from now on.
She is a very nice teacher yet disciplined: very to the book. She offers no grade curves or chances for extra credit.
Dr. Gary is AMAZING at staying in contact with us to inform us about our assignments. She reminds us about due dates, explains how we can improve our work, grades assignments quickly, and always offers help and advice.
Prof. Gary has been one of the most professional and engaged professors. With some of the professors, it is easy to tell they are adjunct and working several or at least another job. Prof. Gary has been especially communicative and engaged throughout the course.
She was one of my best professors this semester!
This online class is easy but her short answer essay assignments are VERY DIFFICULT! She does not grade your essay assignments by actually reading what your work says it is all determined by vericite to detect plagiarism and if there is even a little amount of similarity to anything else you will not be given credit for, even after citing info.
I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Dr. Gary! Humanities is suprisingly interesting to me. I really appreciate her guidance and methods of learning the material in this course. It is very helpful to me. I have learned more in this class by doing the short essays. I wish she taught history, too!
Dr. Gary is awesome. Being an online class, she was very engaged and constantly sending out reminders and announcements. Her instructions are very clear and she always provided feedback. Loved her class!
I wasn't sure I could do a Maymester class, but I ended up really enjoying it! I appreciated that she was so clear with assignments and what she expected from the students. I enjoyed the material, and I appreciated the review sheets. I also appreciated the essay portion of the exams because it pushed me to engage with the material.
Not sure why she has a 4.5 rating, but do not take this teacher unless you absolutely have to. She is very picky which made this class very hard for me. Her objective multiple-choice tests were easy. This course requires a lot of reading and writing. I feel like she graded my essays harder than an English teacher. Also very CRITICAL, and PICKY.
I really liked this class. It is reading and writing intensive, but she tells you that up front, and this is college, after all. She gives good feedback, sends reminders, and is very clear about expectations. She responds to emails quickly and is very approachable. I'd take her again.
IT WAS GREAT! The professor is very kind and seems like she cares about her students very much. So I don't have any issues with how the professor is handling the class. I think she is awesome.
Gary was the most stressful thing about 2020. I would have dropped this class after the 1st day if I could. The class is extremely easy but the amount of emails, announcements and RED BOLD is so unnecessary & annoying. Her grading is a joke and she is not consistent by any means. I could turn in the same assignment twice & get 2 different grades.
I took the class because I had to for my degree but I really liked it and her. She actually met with me to go over my essays before I submitted them. The class is reading and writing heavy but she tells you that from day one. She does a lot to help you succeed. She sends reminders and posts helpful messages which helped me. I'd take her again.
Love her and the class! It's challenging but interesting, and shes really connected to students. Very helpful and supportive.
She is not accurate with grades at all. She sends a stupid amount of emails everyday but doesnt have the decency to answer a students email regarding that she cant get her final exam to turn in & proceeds to give her a 0 and ignore the emails. Dont recommend at all. She makes it extremely difficult because she knows she has the power too.
I want to say thank you to Dr. Gary for everything she did for me during this semester. It was a pleasure working with her and I appreciate her encouragement. She was supportive and understanding.
I had personal struggles this semester and was ready to drop the class but she went out of her way to help me. I finished the class and made an A! I would not have done this if you didnt believe in me, Dr. Gary! I am very grateful that God placed you in my life! Again, thank you!
Professor Gary is awesome. For some reason, a lot of people had trouble with this course. She is extremely thorough and detailed in her emails and instructions for assignments. There is a good amount of work for this course, but if you literally just do the work you will make an A. Exams are not proctored. She is very responsive and caring.
Even though this class was one of the most difficult for me personally, I appreciate how Professor Gary shows she genuinely cares about her students and wants all of us to succeed.
The teacher did very well at conducting herself in class. I enjoyed the content and see no room for improvement. The teacher did well at conveying all material and I found it very useful in my career path.
This class was a lot of reading, but it was clear and to the point. I really appreciated how reachable and helpful Dr. Gary was. The content was not my favorite, but would definitely recommend it if you need the credit.
