Excellent classroom control by knowledge, flow and personality.

Linda Hand is great. She takes time to work and help students. The exams are straight forward and her teaching definitely prepares you for them. She is clear and concise. On top of all this, she's really nice.

Great teacher, makes a somewhat dull class livable. She is very helpful, though her lectures are clear and easy to follow, so you shouldn't have any questions. Put it this way, I found no need to use the book.

I've had two classes with her and she's a great teacher! Her classes are challenging, but still really interesting. She's always willing to go out of her way to help you with anything you need.

her classes are about the most boring and brain jamming 50 minutes ever. her tests are hard, and you have to memorize everything.. she takes role everyday and if you miss class, you'll fall behind really fast.

nice teacher. class is not too bad, but you should study. she drops one test grade and one hwk so it's not to hard. her lectures are helpful and she offers you a lot of help if you just ask her.

Hand is very nice but she doesn't deviate much from a well established lesson plan. Her tests require lots of memorizing and are hard. But she's lenient with grading. You can re-take one test on the last day. 1 field trip is required and are actually fun. A very easygoing person.

She is very nice and took us on awesome field trips. Her required speeches are easy and the tests are ok. She is fun to joke with

This class was sooo boring. Her tests were very hard and she graded hard too. THe class is only based on tests

How can you not take her class? She lets you have a cheat sheet on tests, grades easy and is genuinely interested in teaching the topic. Field trips to the beach for extra credit and no homework. Plus, she gives handouts and writes notes on the board as reviews. Great Teacher!

She's a great teacher. She follows a strict lesson plan and stays on track. The subject matter can get confusing but she does a good job in explaining it clearly. Her lab is a lot of work for a 1 unit class but she tries to make it fun and doesn't keep you 'til 5.

At first she was kinda uptight and gave us a lot of assignments. But as the semester went on, she got lazy i think because her class got a lot easier. She stopped giving lectures and made us do presentations on different things. So we all taught each other. Shes really nice though and laid back.

great teacher. You have to be completely unready for college level science to not pass any of her classes. Natural Disasters was one of the funnest classes I have ever taken, and the field trips were dope.

dr. hand was my favorite techer i have ever had. her test are ectremely hard but you learn so much that its worth it. i recoment taking at least a semester class from her. i am not interested in sciene at all but for some reason i like her class so much that i have taken 2 of her classes! shes great!!!!

she seems like she really loves geology n i like that.. her tests were soo hard but if u review the material really well before them, you'll do ok. plenty of people got A's and B's in my class in fall 05. i really liked her though and i still remember a lot of what i learned.

Mrs. Hand is very nice. her tests are pretty hard, but if you study you should be ok. topics are very interesting, you learn alot about californian disasters! very fun. you take lots of notes, her notes are a little confusing. she draws diagrams on the board, then later she adds onto them, a little confusing. overall great teacher!

Awesome teacher! Her lectures were straight forward, she rarely assigned homework and even when she did, they were really easy. Study your all of your lecture notes and complete the study guides she gives you and you're bound to do well on her tests. She drops your lowest test score so I didn't even take the final since I already had an A.

I have her oceanography class, and she's really nice- if you don't understand and ask her a question, she doesn't get frustrated with you, she just explains it a few different ways until you get it.Her tests leave room for error and I like the knowledge games.I love the field trip they offer- it's fun and extra credit just for showing up.

Shes an amazing teacher! She's hella funny and really sweet. She makes everything interesting and the homework is never hard. The only warning I have is you MUST study before the tests. Theyre really long but are not hard to pass if you dedicate some study time. She gives you lots of extra credit opportunities and grades fairly.

The first half of the class is boring,but it gets really interesting later on. She's also very nice and helpful and you can easily bring your grade back up if you don't do well on your first midterm

Ms. Hand is a really nice teacher who gives you many opportunities to bring up your grade. The homeworks are mostly easy and can be done pretty fast and the quizzes are easy and helpful to the tests. She also tells you what you would need to get on the last test to get a certain grade for the class and you can drop your worst test.

Twas a tricky class, lots of memorization... but mrs.hand was very adorable and always excited about what she was teaching...you can tell she loves what she teaches- and it is a very interesting class.

Professor Hand is very helpful and will explain anything you have a question on. Very straightforward, organized, and fair. Gives lots of opportunities to earn extra points. HW and quizzes are easy. Tests are tricky, but she gives you all the tools needed to do very well. also drops lowest grade of the 4 unit tests. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Prof. Hand is very straight-forward in her lectures and in homework. There is work involved, but putting in the time really pays off. Tests are hard, but she also offers extra credit. She cares about her students to do well. Geology seemed more interesting to me after I took her class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Professors who care about their students are rare these days but Ms. Hand is one of them. She wants her students to understand the subject and gives plenty of opportunities to do well in class. You've got to be extremely lazy not to get an A in her class. Overall, her class was a great experience (took her last fall) and highly recommended!

she's a good teacher. there's no tricks to her class and if you pay attention and do the work you'll be fine. be prepared to make a lot of time for the work load. you have quizes every other day, she does a good review for her tests and gives you plenty of practice. hard class but is not impossible.

I tool geology lecture and lab at the same time and both were incredibly fun. I wasn't interested in geology at all and only took the class because a friend recommended it, but it was really fun to learn and now I see things I learned about everywhere I look. Lab really enhanced my lecture learning, so taking them together is a good idea.

BEST SCIENCE TEACHER EVER! Ms.Hand kept me absorbed in the material & fascinated w/ the subject matter THE ENTIRE SEMESTER. She's fair & clear about what she expects. Naturally, its a difficult topic so if you're not willing to put in the time & effort then find a teacher who won't push you & challenge you. I'd take this class again just for fun!

This class kicked my butt I must admit Missing one or two days in this class means you lose a lot of info! I tried so hard in this class and I don't think i've ever put so much effort into one class but I ended up getting a C ugh. Hand is a really nice teacher though, that's the only reason I stayed. Don't need the book. lotsa EC opportunities

Best science teacher ever. I LOVED her paleontology class. The material would have been hard, but she presents it in a really clear way. Really down-to-earth teacher AND SHE BROUGHT HER BEARDED DRAGON TO CLASS!! Definitely take her!

Great teacher. Really friendly and allows make up. You do not need the text book to pass this class. If you come to class and take good notes, do the online homework and do well on the in class quizzes and decent on the tests, you will pass this class.

I loved professor hand! If you try your hardest in her class you can definitely get an A or B. The tests are pretty difficult (class average of C-) but she levels everything out with easy quizzes and online homework assignments. There are also many extra credit opportunities and chances to do make up tests. She also drops your lowest test grade. I strongly recommend her if the subject matter interests you and you're willing to put the effort in.

Very helpful and clear teacher. Keeps you engaged with the iClicker Q's during class. Easy online hw, and easy quizzes almost every class. If you do your hw and study for the quizzes the tests are super easy. Wasn't really interested to take the class but it was GE but with her attitude it made me really happy to be there. Good, funny lectures.

She does pass by the slides very fast, but they are all posted online. She drops the lowest test out of four and it's fairly easy to go from failing to passing in her class. She has a high amount of extra credit and does her best to give you points. You can't fail her daily quizzes unless you don't show up to take them. Great teacher!!!

Easy hw. Straight froward lectures. Many quizzes. Tests require a lot of memorization, but aren't the hardest. Easy A or B if you are the type of student that studies for tests.

Absolutely love her. I took the lab as well. As long as you do your homework and go to class it is very easy to follow and understand the material. Tests aren't too hard and plenty of oppourtunities for extra credit and to pass the class. She makes the topics interesting and I am taking her palentology this fall. love her!

Best science class EVER! Linda is an extremely nice lady who is very keen on her material, easy to understand, and very helpful. She has the best teaching style i have experienced imo. It is very straight-forward. Would absolutely recommend her to anyone and im looking forward to taking another class with her! ps did not buy textbook or use at all

Loved the class. Very organized class notes. Gives flashcards and study sheet to study from for tests. No need for textbook. 4 hard tests (none cummulative)&drops lowest grade out of the 4. Attendance not mandatory but a should; quizzes and iclicker questions. Lots of Extra credit. Very helpful teacher & keeps things interesting. Loved the class!

Professor Hand is really nice. The class is basically composed of 4 Tests including the final and the lowest test grade is dropped. Her lectures are very clear and the tests pretty much correspond with the notes.

She is My Favorite Teacher at CSM! Teaching is a calling for her, she enjoys what she does and what she teaches. She puts in so much work for all of her classes and is super clear & fair about all due dates & tests. Her tests are not easy, but she usually allows you to drop your worst test score. WEB HW is straight forward, & u can do extra credit.

She is awesome! You can tell she really wants her students to succeed and she's willing to help anyone that comes to her. Fair amount of hw and all of it is pretty easy IF you have good notes ;)

I took Geology 100 and lab 101 with Professor Hand this past semester and enjoyed the class. She is a *great* teacher. Her grading is very structured and straightforward. She drops your worst test grade in both lab and lecture. Do well on the first three so you don't have to take the fourth - trust me on that. Tons of extra credit. Take this class.

I have taken each of her classes offered at CSM and passed each one with an A. She is extremely clear about what needs to be studied to pass. Her most difficult class is Paleo lecture, but as long as you go to class and take notes you'll pass and never even have to read the textbook. (as long as you're good at taking notes)

I decided to take Geology 100 with professor Hand. She is one of my favorite professors. There are only 4 tests including the final. You can drop your lowest test score and if you do very good on the first 3 tests, you do not have to take the final. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. As long as you do the work you'll do great.

Loved her class! I'm not sure why she is getting some bad reviews. Yes, the tests are hard but if you have common sense and use her study guides you will get at least a B on them. She also drops your lowest score which is nice. Expect quizzes (easy if you study them for like 10 min). Overall a great class!

Linda is THE HOMIE! She is there whenever you need her. She is so caring and a great teacher! Everything is all powerpoint so take good notes. Her tests are 100% scantron so if you hate scantrons than good luck. Tests are hard but study the hw and you'll do fine. She drops the lowest test grade.

Professor Hand is without a doubt one of the best professors at CSM. This class was hard af but if you do all of the extra credit, complete all of the online hw on time, and study a decent amount of time for the tests, you will definitely get an A or B. If you get confused on anything, don't be afraid to ask for help! textbook is not necessary

I love professor Hand and have taken her for Oceanography, Paleontology, AND Geology. The trick to her class is simply staying on top of your work and paying attention to deadlines. She gives you everything you need to succeed but fall behind a little and you will not. She also gives a lot of extra credit options so take advantage of that.

It's a college course so being consistent and organized is a must. To get an A in this class you should read the book, study the flashcards provided, use a notebook(not a laptop), and take advantage of extra credit. Use BBCampus for Books. Overall, enjoyed learning in this class. Great prof. She is professional and understanding.

Hand is a good teacher; she goes over what she wants from you on day one. Her test are really long and make up 3/4 of your grade, but she does drop your lowest test score. She post slides online in case she goes to fast in class; that with the book and flashcards is what you should study.

She is so straightforward. The tests and the quizzes are all based on the notes during lectures. Reading the text with the corresponding chapters is highly advisable to succeed. Very knowledgeable about her material. What I love about her though she has a very crude sense of humor. Awesome to talk to!

Lectures are super interesting and gives clear outlines of what she is expecting from you. Fair grader and will let you turn in late for partial credit. Don't skip or you will miss out on daily quizzes that you can't make up.

Professor Hand is extremely nice and is always available. She brings material to class that has to do with lecture (glowing algae for oceanography). If you do well on the first three tests you don't have to take the fourth one. Study from the lecture slides or read the book and you will pass the class easily.

I had Linda Hand my first semester at CSM. Such a spectacular teacher that all others pale in comparison. She is one of those teachers youll remember for ever. Not an easy As though shell make you work for it! But youll know where you stand grading wise. Thoroughly professional, lectures are brilliant & creative. I Miss being in her class.

She is very helpful and offers extra credit the first week of class. Make sure to do online homework because the following class, she will give you a quiz exactly like the homework except the answers are switched around. She gives you 4 tests and drops the lowest scored one which helped me a lot. Jut make sure take a lot of notes.

Make sure you show up!!! This class is based off of projects done within class so make sure you show up and pay attention during the lecture. She quickly lectures about the lab before so you will not be confused if you arent in her GEOL100 class. Be sure to ask questions and take notes but she is helpful throughout the lab so dont worry!!

She's a great professor overall. She has established clear grading criteria for her lecture and lab and is always available outside of class for extra help. Beware though her tests are on the difficult side but she bumps them (better than curve) and drops the lowest one. She also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities.

The start of the class was intimidating and seemed like it'd be tons of work but isn't bad at all. The online homework takes 5 minutes and all the answers are provided for the quizzes, you just have to memorize it which is super easy. She wants everybody to succeed and makes sure to have the class be as easy as possible

Don't buy the textbook! All the info you need for the tests are in the lecture notes and homework. There's a ton of homework and several quizzes, but its all very easy. The only challenging part of the class are the exams. Hand is very organized and focused. She doesn't waste any time. There are LOTS of extra credit opportunities.

Professor Hand is a fabulous professor, my favorite so far at CSM. She has high expectations for her students but she gives you all the resources you need succeed. Your level of effort will determine your grade. Lectures are extremely important and certain units have daily quizzes. The flashcards she prepares are a lifesaver for tests.

Lab is easy if you pay attention and do what you're told. She'll do the lab with you and then you do it on your own. The quizzes and tests are kind of hard but come in early and there will ALWAYS be help. Majority of your grade is based off 4 tests and your lowest one gets dropped. Easiest lab here at CSM without a doubt.

Most of the textbook is in her power point presentations so pay attention and take notes. She makes extensive study guides and flash cards and offers extra credit crossword puzzles. Great Teacher!

This is my second class with Professor Hand and she continues to be one of my favorite professors. Even after COVID forced classes online, she still maintained a schedule with required Zoom call at the same time lab would normally be held. Amazingly smooth transition to online classes and fun material to boot.

Linda was one of my fav professors! She is direct and open about grading, how to succeed, what will be on tests, and offers lots of extra credit! It's worth it to make sure you can avoid taking a test if you don't want to. LOVED her class! 4 tests and the lowest grade dropped! Put in the work and it will be a piece of cake. The content was SO cool!
