Could make the test easier
not a very good course
Tests are too subjective- hard to do well on, even with a lot of studying!
Test questions sometimes confusing! Fun course!
Awesome prof. She makes the course so much fun!
not good
Made course a lot of fun, tests were pretty easy too.
The class was fun. The exams were not. Fun to attend the lectures if you have a different prof, but I wouldn't enroll in her class. The questions were very subjective and didn't always reflect what was taught.
The Best Teacher EVER!! I am forever enlightened from her Sociology of Gender Class. I Highly Recommend her!!!
She is a truly gifted teacher. People take her classes expecting them to be fun and games but don't take her exams seriously. She is tough but her exams are totally fair. Most people just don't like having to think and that's not the fault of the prof.
Linda is the best prof I've ever had. She is very passionate about teaching and helping her students succeed - not only in her course but also in life. I would definitely recommend her!
The Best, this University is a joke for letting her go.. all because she had the guts to speak up.
Linda is the only prof that can make statistics interesting and easy to understand. Her unique attitude and willingness to help all of her students is a breath of fresh air.
A very good prof! I had her for soci 201 and 303 and she makes the classes interesting and fun. You can also see how much she loves teaching and how much she cares for her students.
One of the rare profs who loves both their field of study AND teaching. Made Tuesday/Thursday mornings worth coming to. Lectures were hilarious and engaging. Material a little dry (lots of history) but she did her best. Would definately recommend!
Incredibly gifted professor who loves teaching. I looked forward to every single class even though I have very little interest in the subject. Sadly she's been forced out of the university by administration because she spoke out against them.
Takes an active interest in her students. Linda's ability to interact and relate to her students is unlike any professor I have ever had. If I could have her for all my classes I would be on the Dean's List.
She makes you look forward to going to class. As well, she makes class interesting, and allows for students to get their input in very often. She is hilarious and passionate in her teaching. She is one of the best profs that I've had.
Superb teacher. Has a true passion for teaching that was forced out of the University. Just another reason why U of C isn't going anywhere. If there is any justice, she should be teaching at the U of C right now. Shame on the President of the U of C.
kindergarten
Best U of C instructor I had. After what the U of C did to Linda, it clarrifies that they really are going nowhere fast.
awesome teacher, Linda is awesome!
Linda is great. Topic of sociology not great. Yet I still attended class because she was hilrious. Boo Harvey.
Linda is awesome. She wants her students to succeed! Very helpful and loving. I would reccomend her. funny lady!
Her classes are best for non-majors. She's a great teacher no question, but other profs offer deeper, more challenging studies. The incident with admin has been blown way out of proportion. She's a sessional instructor, not a tenured prof. It happens.
The best Prof that I ever had, only took the intro class for option and ended up taking a bunch more because she inspired me to learn about the subject and to enjoy it. Shame on the U of C for treating her that way and for making our educations worse.
Amazing prof. So far I've taken 3 of her classes. I've never met anyone who didn't love her classes. I learned more in her stats classes than I've learned in any of my other university classes.
she is the ONLY reason I passed my Stats classes. She is an amazing teacher, and I wish the U of C would bring her back full time.
She is the reason WHY I am a Soci major. Absolutely fantastic prof. She genuinely wants everyone to learn, and to RETAIN what they've learned. She makes a pop-400 class feel like an intimate study group. And she's totally hot to trot!
NOT the teaching style for me. I found it to be entirely to dramatic, and random, and slow. I also prefer textbooks to 50$ books of readings. Great class to sit in on- bad class to take multiple choice exams in. Completely random questions from random days in lecture- and I WENT TO EVERYONE!
Highly overrated. EXTREMELY subjective questions. A multiple choice question could have 2 perfectly correct answers but she would only allow one cause she says so.
AWESOME PROF! You need to experience at least one Linda Henderson class to have had a truly fulfilling University experience.
Not a very good teacher at all. Yes, she's funny and charismatic, but when it actually comes down to how much you learned in the class, or how well the tests are designed, she's total crap. I don't know how she earned teaching awards when she hardly teaches at all.
She's got a lot of energy which makes the class interesting. As long as you pay attention to what she's saying, you'll definitely have enough information to go on. The tests are pretty fair and overall she makes it into a pretty easy and interesting course.
Not a good teacher at all. She can be funny at times, but her jokes are repetitive. Midterm was unfair, one of the questions on it was "Which of the following books did Linda Henderson read when she was getting her doctoral?" Completely unfair. Do not take her class.

Great prof. I think if people have problmes they need to listenmore. Yes she tests on random things she said in class, but she also tells you which 'stupid facts' (like which book she did her dissertation on, and no, she said she NEVER read it) you need to know. Very usefull in my 300s.
Simply put, the Best there is at what she does.
You haven't experienced university until you've been to a Linda Henderson class. Simply put, one of the best assets U of C has, well at least part time. Lectures are always packed, but her loud voice still reaches each and everyone of her students.
Do not take her class: nothing but lame jokes and constant reminders of how great a teacher she is. Tests are vague. She lied and said readings wouldn't be on the tests and then put them on. She lost one of my minor tests (she admitted this) which harshly screwed up my grade. Unprofessional.
I have red comments above.I didn't miss her lectures and worked hard.I got grade around average.Dr.Henderson works hard and enjoys talking in class(one with 400 students). The test is easy. However,I don't think she is helpful.(maybe class is too big,she works parttime,I study with second language...)
Her class is very entertaining, you won't be bored. However, beware of her final from hell. The midterms and the paper are so easy a monkey could get an A, but then you get the final and wonder where the hell she came up with the questions. I warn you - Pay attention to every little detail (especially segment titles) of the movie about sports.
She'd make a much better elementary school teacher. She'd force people to write her notes even if they were useless analogies or jokes (which was very common). Class was pretty easy though.
She's bloody awesome!
BEST PROF EVERY. SHE MADE STATS INTERESTING AND FUN EVEN WHEN THEY WEREN'T STILL USE ALL HER ANALOGIES IN MY SOCI 315 CLASS. SHE LOVES HER STUDENTS AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HELP THEM INCLASS OR OUTSIDE OF CLASS. HER EXAMS ARE HARD BUT SHE PREPARES YOU REALLY WELL FOR THEM SO YOU ARE FOR SURE GOING TO PASS IT IF YOU JUST ATTEND CLASS.
She's amazing, but only if you enjoy her lecture style. Very energetic and full of anecdotes and zaniness. You should have to take a class from her in order to get a degree.
Spends more time asking people about their weekends then actually lecturing. Readings and class material was painfully boring. Her notes weren't very helpful even though she liked to say they were. Exams had a number of odd questions about herself like "Who influenced me while writing my masters thesis" or "What book did I once read"...who cares
She is a very interesting teacher, if your like me and fall asleep in most classes than take one of her classes, she will keep you on your toes the entire semester. She is a great teacher, although I found her a little arrogant about how good she actually was. We realize your a good teacher Linda, try to be more humble about it....
She is fun, energetic and nice, but the content bored me to tears. This is sort of like an intro to an intro Soci course, and you don't learn much.. sociology. It's all history and research. More importantly, the handful of teacher's pets she knew personally drove me nuts. Applause at the end of the semester is acceptable... a tribute song is not.
I loved the way she taught. Very funny, very caring about her students. The course was pretty easy. I got an A- without really trying.
WHAT AN AMAZING PROFF, take this class for the entertainment value, she is an amazing woman with alot under her belt and a lot to share with her students, her humour and compassion are overwhelming! Great class, pay attention to what she emphasizes, it will take you far in the class and in life!
as someone who does not enjoy stats, I appreciated the way that Henderson taught this course. She made all the concepts clear, and she was very helpful. HOWEVER, be forewarned that this woman has a seriously foul mouth, and is full of tasteless stories and vulgar illustrations.
The best prof I have ever had. This was the second stats I took with Linda and I waited three to due so. I would not have survived this without her support. There is not a prof on campus who cares more for her students than Linda, she will do whatever she can to help and is always there when you need something. THE BEST.
A disgrace to the teaching profession. To use the f.... word in a classof 400 is immature and disgraceful. Do you have any regard for who you might be offending. I really don't care about your ex husband or your sons. I paid to learn about sociology, not you.
One of the best professors I've had in The University of Calgary. She only teaches through tradition means (blackboard and talking) which is unique and rare. Henderson commands authority, loves what she does, couldn't be more clear in verbal instruction. Absolutely loved her sense of humor despite it's occasional perversity.
That last comment sounds like it was made by her.
Dont take this class to learn stuff, take it for the entertainment Henderson provides. She isn't very good at teaching, students just like her because she is fun in lectures. Keep that in mind before enrolling in one of her lectures. Generally a good prof because of the fun, but her downfall is the fact that she isn't really very good at teaching.
Wow! She is a special woman. She is a very talented teacher, and gives you a very strong foundation for Soci(from what I've heard most soci classes are all memorization?). She is fun and speaks the truth! She is truly concerned for students. Take good notes and UNDERSTAND the material and you will do well.
overall class was ok but you have to attened every class and take detailed notes
Great Professor! She knows how to get your attention and keep it. Unlike other profs she really engages you into her lectures and everything you learn is useful in everyday life. She is a truly amazing professor who loves what she does.
Fabulous class. She's very entertaining and helpful, she truly cares about her students, and if you go to class, it's pretty easy to remember the material taught. She can even make talking about old dead dudes and their sociological theories interesting. Everyone should take at least one class taught by her, just for the experience.
She is an excellent professor. she really does care for her students and makes learning so much more fun. the only class i didnt fall asleep in this year was sociology
I LOVE LINDA HENDERSON
tricky midterm and exam questions. overall great prof
Henderson is passionate, high-energy and cares for her students. She is great in that she'll put in the effort to mark all the term papers herself and will look at your grades to make sure you get what you deserve in the end. Sometimes the jokes got old and lectures were a bit pedantic, but SOCI201 is not very interesting or in-depth anyways.
Linda was a great prof but her tests are really tricky. I enjoyed going to class but hated studying for exams because I knew she plays games on the test.
Simply put? Most amazing Professor I've ever had.
Great lady... funny, a bit odd, tries to keep a boring subject interesting. You HAVE TO go to her classes tho - don't take it if you don't plan to go.
She was great. Super Helpful. Spoonfed the class.
Wicked prof. You have to go to the classes though - her notes are amazing...and pretty much exactly what you'll see on the tests. (although you really have to listen as she doesn't write down everything that may be important) She might scare the crap out of you the first day...but its just to scare you into learning? you'll laugh about it later
BEST DAMN SOCI PROF EVER. her lectures were the most fun and entertaining i've ever been to. she'll always help u out if u need it and ask, real friendly prof if ur not intimidated. HOWEVER - class is NOT an easy one. when she says her class is hard, believe her. it was supposed to be my GPA booster, not the case. work hard though, and u'll do fine
Oh Henderson! She certainly makes the class interesting. Make sure to go to do the readings for the final (especially). Note: Her tests include her strange stories, so you HAVE to go to class. She was really great, but I personally didn't find the class itslef interesting.
Amazing. Best prof ever. She really cares about her students and will go to any lengths to help them. Also, no homework and no textbook is a bonus. For her stats 3 week course, must go to class. And you must work on your lab assignments over your lunch, but it pays off.

SUPER unprofessional. Screamed (yes, screamed) at us for not doing well on a midterm, and forced us to re-write all of her notes. Is she for real??? Primadonna. Thinks we're all just sitting on the edge of our seats to listen to her anecdotes, but we have to, because if she thinks you're not paying attention, she'll chew you out. Grade 4, anyone???
Likely one of the best professors I've had in my time at the U of C. Disregard the previous three comments: Someone threw a temper tantrum and needs to grow up. Linda is a very entertaining professor, loves what she does, and genuinely cares about her students. Her teaching method manages to keep students interested, even in the dryer material.
Not a very good prof at all. Complete and total waste of money! I took this course to learn about sociology, not about her life!! Keeps constantly reminding students about what a "great prof" she is, makes up bull stories. Never again will I ever take her AGAIN ever..if You're in her class I strongly urge you to drop out ASAP.and tests are unfair.
Don't bother buying the text. Not even cracked open. She is the best, I thought that a Stats course would get me an F and therefore, I would not be able to graduate (math is my worst subject). I got an A. Put in the effort and it will pay off. I promise. She will go to ANY lengths to help you. You need Linda!
Probably one of the best -- if not the best -- professors I've ever had. It is incredibly refreshing to see a prof OPENLY ADMIT to what bothers so many of us (students & profs alike)...going on facebook during class, profs posting BB notes so you dont have to attend, speaking too quickly, etc. What's the point in paying for the course? She rocks.
Adding my voice to the chorus: best damn prof I have ever had. Period. I took Soci 311 because I had to take a stats course of some sort, and thank god I did! I don't think I would have passed otherwise; maths are NOT my strong suit. I am considering taking the next level of stats from her next semester, or in Spring, for the GPA boost.
Fun times with henderson. To be perfectly honest I would have dropped this course if not for her since i really still couldn't care less about Sociology. She's good- and for anything you say, you really don't learn anything in the course anyway, so why not have some fun?
If you study and go to all the classes, you will do fine. You don't need to book of readings. Save yourself the money. However, she was possibly the most entertaining prof I've had. Her exams are not easy, she doesn't use blackboard, or any electronics, but she kows how to teach. I completely recommend taking this class as an option.
very funny teacher. I just got a kick out of the question on clarity for her haha.
There is not much to say that hasn't already said, the U of C is extremely lucky to have her
Keeps class interesting.
Absolutely the best prof I have ever had
Amazing prof! She scares the slackers out (1st day) and lets you know exactly what she expects and what you can expect in return. You have to know the material for the final and apply your knowledge. Her lectures are entertaining and the pace is just right. Must attend lectures. Wouldn't take another soci class unless she was the prof!!
Such an amazing teacher! Very entertaining, keeps the class interesting. However, her tests are harder than you think! But so worth the effort!
Amazing professor. She's the reason I'm a Soci major.
Linda is awesome! She definitely keeps you entertained as some of the material for intro to soci is quite dry. Her stories are hilarious and help you remember concepts and how they're used. Tutorials for this course are a bit boring but like she says they are gifts - you get 15% for just showing up basically. Attendance is a MUST, go to class!
By far the best prof i have ever had! She is absolutely hilarious and her stories are unforgettable, making it so easy to remember the course information. Attending class is a must but they are all worth it!
Linda's wonderful. She does anything she needs to do to get her point across and is super receptive to questions from students. She handwrote all our material on the board, which made attendance mandatory, but means we could keep up while copying. No textbook used, which is great. Linda took a course I was dreading and made it a great experience.
She gave me a life inspiring experience. The best i have ever met.
Best prof you will ever have! The way she teaches makes it so easy to learn. You will never want to miss a class because they are actually fun to be at. I wish i could take the class again just because of her!
Best prof I have ever had!! She is amazing and so funny. If you get the change make sure you take a class with her!
Even in classes with 400 people, she can still engage in interesting discussion with the class. She always brings props into class which helps teach the material. She also reviews the material from the previous lecture; good for those who may have missed a day. She is also very understanding if you have a "social experience" the night before.
SO GOOD! linda is very entertaining, very very funny.
Such an amazing teacher! She really, really tries to make stats easy and breaks it down into understandable chunks. She realizes Social Science kids don't like stats so TAKE SOCIOLOGY 311 (INTRO TO SOCIAL STATISTICS) WITH HER IN THE SPRING! I swear you will not regret it! And don't bother buying the textbook - she has her own way of teaching!
Amazing prof! If you have the opportunity to take a class with her TAKE IT!
Best teacher ever. Made class very enjoyable and is great at getting across concepts. I am desperately trying to get into another class with her, so if you get the chance to have her as a prof don't pass it up.
Dr Henderson is an AWESOME professor, she's the best teacher to take Soci 311 & 315 with. I took them both with her in the Spring & Summer semester and absolutely LOVED the classes. I was terrified of Stats going in and came out with an A in both, thank you Linda!
Honestly, the BEST professor I have had so far in my three years in Uni...you HAVE to go to class but she makes it so interesting and fun. Taking her 201 class is how I decided what I wanted to major in.
She was a very interesting and entertaining lecturer. Understanding of the stoner kids in the back row, and those to hung over to care. Captivating, genuine, very nice, and seems to care greatly.
She is amazing. if you have the chance take ANY course by her. it will but so much fun!!
She is a really good teacher! Her lectures are never boring, she's enthusiastic about the subject. The course components are explained really well - my favourite teacher in UofC!
BEST PROFESSOR!
I loved this class. Want an A? Here's the formula = Class and tutorial attendance + Take good notes(she writes down everything you need to know) Super passionate lady who knows her stuff. Hillarious too! what more could you ask for?
Brilliant...absolutely brilliant
She is the best prof i have ever had!!! I would take a class on paint drying if she taught it.
Took this class couple years back. She's the reason that I switched my major to Soci, 'Nuff said. Go to her classes and take detailed notes and you will do fine
I had her for SOCI201 at a different University before she went on sabbatical. She is so engaging and interesting and just all around hilarious. Because I went to a tinier school I got to know her on a much more personal level and she is seriously just an all around amazing woman! Made Soci super clear and we only have a small book of readings
I graduated 8 years ago and I still think of Linda! She is a gem. Love her! Best Prof ever. I took a stats class from her and it was the best decision I've made in my entire undergrad experience. I wish I enrolled in her 200 level classes, my journey would have been so much easier. She is passionate about teaching and just a great person overall.
Extremely exuberant and passionate as she lecturers, and great if you enjoy that style. Maybe a few too many anecdotes, but they were certainly memorable. Tests can be hard unless you study, but as long as you study you should be good.
Its been 10 years since I took my first class with her, and she was the reason I switched my major from Biochem to Sociology! She is, by all means, an amazing and inspirational prof, and taking a class with her was a life-changing event for me! It is rare to have someone so passionate and dedicated for teaching! I wish I could be her student again!
Everyone should take her classes! She's so kind and cares for her student. Make sure to show up or else you'll fall behind. Be prepared to write a lot of notes, it seems like a lot of writing but you wont really mind because those notes will be on the exams.
Amazing professor! Very passionate about her work and engages her students with her enthusiasm, wit, and unique teaching style. I switched my major from psychology to sociology because of Dr. Henderson. Genuinely cares about her students and what's going on in their lives. 10/10 would recommend taking her class if given the opportunity.
Great prof if you're taking intro to Soci. I really enjoyed the class as she is animated. For sucha class with so many people, it was one of the better ones. Would recommend.
What a phenomenal professor--and person! I can't recommend Dr. Henderson more. She is hysterical and 100% set you up for success in her classes.
