I took Dr. Hoffman's Microbiology class in 2014 and although it was a lot of reading, I was able to easily pass. All of the online exams questions are straight from the book and she posts your grades online so that you can keep track of your grade and how well you are doing. She is an easy grader and permits you to re-take exams 3 times each.

Dr. Hoffman teaches straight from the book. She does read through the slides, that the author of the book provides, and then explains each one. The tests are all from the book and she uses Khan Academy as a leaning aide. I did not feel that she needed to provide more material since all of the questions come from the book. I learned a lot!

As stated, she works from the book ($280.00) and therefore I feel good that I can say that I know the book and the material. As for being a lawyer and molecular biologist, she referenced her jobs frequently but to me she mentioned how the topic applied to her experiences and how I could go into either field from science. I was not offended.

I loved Dr. Hoffman. Her teaching style is direct and easy to follow. You simply have to read the syllabus and keep up with the work. Though Dr. Hoffman let me hand in a number of assignments late without penalty. I have no problems working out of the book that I spent good money on and as she said, it is now a good reference for me.

I felt that Dr. Hoffman was fair and reasonable.

All quiz/exams are online can be taken multiple times. Be ready to present in front of class and a 3 page paper is due. Buy the book she teacher straight from it. I would def take her again!

Dr. Hoffman is pretty reasonable. Lot's of knowledge and tells stories with the slide presentation. I had no problems coming to class even though it was a all day lecture/lab.

Literally an easy A show up to class and lab you should pass! all exams and quizzes are online and your able to repeat them as many times as possible 100 questions but there repeatable you have to show up to your labs cause that's where the points matter and the labs are super easy

I am in a Nursing program at Shady Side and this class is mandatory. I was able to transfer back. We were graded on a 10-page research paper, presentation and class participation. Dr. Hoffman covered the underlying concepts of Medical Ethics and the Law and we students dove into a topic of choice and then ran our own lectures. I learned a lot! ty!!

The class is easy !!! All exams and quizes are online . You basically make your own grade in this class.

I love the way Dr. Hoffman ran this class. Our Micro laboratory was a lot of fun. We were required to collect info on 10 known bacteria then we were given 1 of the 10 and we had to identify it. We were allowed to work in teams & help each other. It was fun but also a good learning strategy which stress good note taking skills. I learned a lot!

Good class. Dr. Hoffman works out of a required book but she covered the material in class and there were no quizzes or tests that required me to use the book. Therefore, though the book is mandatory, I did not really need to use it. However, it was a good book and it was interesting and an easy read as well as help me in writing my final paper.

Linda is an excellent professor who truly wants her students to succeed. Lectures were engaging and necessary. I gained a lot from this class.

Dr. Hoffman will take a complex lesson and break it down to a very easy and understandable lesson. She is not here to make students feel stupid because they made a mistake or did not know. She is an excellent professor.

I really enjoyed Dr. Hoffman's class. It was straight to the point, and you knew what was expected of you in order to pass. She covered all the basics of Medical Ethics, and shared some great stories from her own personal experience. I really enjoyed the movie we watched, as well as some articles we discussed in class. Professor Hoffman, is very lenient and understanding to the fact that other then being students, we are also adults with lives and children. If I had to leave class a little early to work or pick up my children, she never made me feel wrong for having to do so. I would love to take her again for A&P 2��

I enjoy being in the class room of Dr. Linda Hoffman. She Made learning for us her purpose. She helped me a lot with the physical exercises in the gym. She gave fine lectures and gave good feedback on any questions we asked. She inspired us to learn from the quizzes and the text book. I would like to have her again

Super straight forward class. One paper, one presentation, one group presentation and just show up. You'll get in A/B guaranteed. She is entertaining even though the material is boring sometimes. Got the book and didn't use it. She cancelled class a few times because of a case she had, she's a lawyer also. I would recommend taking her

Her expectations were clear. The discussions were cumbersome; busywork, really (how she takes attendance), but the exams and quizzes were the bulk of the grade and all open book. She was hands off but that's what I want with online classes.

Dr. Hoffman's Pharmacology course was a great class. All 20+ chapters were covered in both the 10 point quizzes and 100 point exams. You were permitted to take the quizzes and exams unlimited times to improve your grade. She also had 3 discussion board with simple guided questions. We had to simply post a definition and comment.

Dr Hoffman was fair and reasonable. Microbiology is not an easy class therefore, it is nice and refreshing to have a teacher that understands that we have to work and have lives as well as trying to succeed in college

She is very understanding and will do what she can to help you pass the course. Permits you to retake quizzes and exams, which not only helps you learn the material, but can also boost your grade (highest grade is retained). It would be impossible to receive a low grade, especially if you put in some effort and complete all the assignments.

Very understanding of how busy life can be outside of school and more than willing to help students who may not understand the material.

Professor Hoffman has an extensive list of degrees which makes her very knowledgeable! She is very kind, compassionate and treats you like an adult. I liked that we were in control of our own grades with all tests and quizzes being online. If we needed anything she would explain further and was always willing to help. I can gram stain now!

You cannot go wrong taking a class with this professor. Very reasonable and understanding. She also loves to teach which makes learning fun.

Dr. Hoffman is one of the best BIO teachers I have ever had. She sets you up for success in the real world. Your grade is up to you; do the exams, quizzes, and homework on time and you will get an A. Lab attendance is mandatory, you cannot make up the labs. If you can, take her for Micro! She really cares. You need the lab book, not the lecture one

Dr. Hoffman really wants all her students to succeed. I found lab to be very beneficial and learned a lot. She allows her students to be in full control of their grades. You are allowed to take the quizzes and exams as many times as you want and the best grade sticks. She truly cares for her students.

Ms. Hoffman's class is very practical. It is centered around the lab and lecture books and is straight forward. Note taking wasn't necessary imo. It's structured so you get out what time/effort you put into it. You're able to improve your score on the online exams and quizzes. Overall, she's friendly, I learned a lot from lab, and didn't stress.

Dr. Hoffman is a very good teacher. She understands that students have other things going on in their lives outside of school. She is very helpful at explaining anything you are confused on.

The due date for every assignment is the last day of class (besides the research project). Attendance for lab is mandatory, but lecture is not. All tests and quizzes are online (except for the final).

Textbook was informative. I utilized it, to educate myself on my presentation topic. Others along with Dr. Hoffman provided background information on numerous infectious diseases. Conveyance portion; Dr. Hoffman can only do what she could, regarding students not having accurate materials to complete labs.

I definitely recommend Dr. Hoffman, especially if you're taking BIO175 for the nursing program. Grading is straight forward and along with online quizzes/exams, it's very easy get a good grade as long as you put in the effort. She's extremely knowledgeable and laid back, which helped out immensely with the hard content in both lecture and lab.

I really enjoyed this class. The grade was based on one presentation and multiple discussion boards. The class was informative and I feel that I have a strong understanding of the ethics involved in the medical field. The class is 5:30 till 8:40 but it is fun since we never stay later than 8pm.

It is great to be in her class. She's understandable, inspirational and offers great career advises as well. Her class is also more of a discussion which makes you learn MORE; I highly recommend her!!

All lectures are explained thoroughly. The class is mainly discussion based, with addition to online discussions. It was easy, but the information was still retained. Grading is reasonable, and feedback is encouraged

Dr Hoffman was a great teacher. The class is discussion based, so attendance is required. I felt that I learned a lot more since the class was discussion based, and I would definitely take her for another class. Shes super smart and gives great advice. The articles that we were required to read for the discussion boards were interesting as well.

Dr. Hoffman is more than fair. Her class is interesting, and she bridges the gap between the topic and the field very well. Her expertise in different areas is very insightful. She's clear and very diplomatic, and treats her students like adults, which is a nice departure from other teachers. The flexibility she offers was key to my success.

Dr. Hoffman creates a welcoming environment. You have a 500 word discussion board due every other week, a longer presentation on one chapter, attendance points during classmate's presentations, and a final critique for a classmates presentation 3-5 pages long. She is lenient on due dates and coming in late. Easy A as long as you participate.

I really enjoyed Dr. Hoffman's class. She is fair and if you do the work, you will get an "A". Most of the class is discussions and a presentation.

Great class. The online option did not have great reviews so I opted to take Prof. Hoffman's class. I do not regret my decision. She is very fair and entertaining. I enjoyed the reading and discussion on the peer reviewed articles. The class is almost graduate level, discussions and no exams. With a required presentation and participation.

The class is operated on a graduate level, where there are no exams, but participation is necessary. The textbook she uses is easy to read and understand, yet very informative.

This is my second time taking Dr. Hoffman's class and I really enjoyed it! She is fair in her grades and always explain what needs to be done to succeed in her class. Dr. Hoffman is the professor to take for Microbiology!! She helps keep you alert and awake in class. Memorization is a key factor in this class, so if you are good with that, then this is for you! She really takes the time to make sure everyone understands and is on the same page. Very funny as well, I always looked forward to her classes!!

Dr. Hoffman made Bio 175 a very interesting class for me. The last time I took any biology class was in 10th grade. I was self conscious about lab and being able to do the experiments, but she helped me tremendously. I feel like she was very thorough with what was expected from us and the class in general. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hoffman.

Be ready to present in front of the class. Dr. Hoffman believes that this is one of the best skills you will develop in her class and I agree. It is a shame that the COVID-19 interfered with this but the online Discussion Board option was just as useful. She is fair and reasonable. ty

I went into Ethics fearing that it would be super hard and boring. Dr. Hoffman made it anything but. She is amazing! She really makes you think about things. Her assignments were not bad at all. I looked forward to class every single week. She is very caring and has a great ear for listening. I really enjoyed this class and definitely recommend it!

This class was converted to a ZOOM course. I was not certain how the professor would handle the labs but they were fun and relevant. Attendance was mandatory but you did not have to stay for lecture. The lectures were helpful but since the exams are all online and open book, I found that my time was better used to just take the tests and quizzes

Take this class if you like a no bs instructor. You definitely learn the material and there is a lot of work since we cover 14 chapters but you can retake your quizzes and exams over as many times as you need. The test are open book so if you work through the test, you only need to take it once. But you have options. I would take her again.

Professor Hoffman is a very genuine person. She really enjoys teaching and is great with immediate communication. She is very loose with deadlines, having hard deadlines really only when midterm and then final grades are due. It's easy to complete all assignments for the course within a few weeks. Her lectures follow the book's chapter by chapter.

Professor Hoffman wants you to get an A. She conducts discussions that not only give us space to share but also learn a lot from each other and our different experiences, also no pressure to share! Grading is loose, only hard deadlines are midterm and final grades. She's got some great stories herself. I'd definitely take her again.

Deadlines are flexible besides midterms/finals, so there's plenty of time. This class was just amazing and I learned so much from her and the other students!

I really enjoyed this class. It was graded through participation in weekly discussion boards, a final presentation and a 5-page critical analysis paper. This class was very interactive. We discussed a variety of ethical issues after reading a common chapter or watching videos. I learn a lot. The ZOOM lectures were interesting but OPTIONAL.

It's not easy. It will take work but she is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had. She is willing to help and you can tell she loves her job. I think this course was manageable, however, aw it still required work. The work required for this class wasn't extremely strenuous but it still covered the wide range of topics relating to the overal course material.

IIf you attend class diligently, getting grades is not difficult and is fun. Many discussions are helpful in practical situations. We have a lot of discussions, read books, and share opinions on each other's topics. I recommend this class.

I think that Dr. Hoffman was a great professor. The class itself was fairly simple and easy to complete, if you attended class. There are A LOT of discussion boards as your assignments, which wasn't my favorite. Class was interesting and fun to attend throughout the semester. She is extremely knowledgeable and extremely fair. She really wants you to succeed, but you have to do your part as well. She is fair with grading, and values your opinion. If you are taking an elective class, and are in the medical field, this is the professor and class that you want!!

I thought the class design was very manageable. All assignments are opened at the beginning of the semester and there are no penalties for submitting assignments early/late. As long as you do the work and provide your best work you'll pass. The textbook is smaller (like a average chapter book novel) and easy to read, which I enjoyed.

Dr. Hoffman was an excellent teacher. She taught so many different aspects of ethics. Her discussion boards were my favorites part of tis class. I also loved the book we had to read for part of our presentation.

Professor Hoffman was great, we had free range when it came to turning in work. She is very understanding about late work and gives time to turn things is. Her teaching methods are great and has a great sense of humor. Only flaw is the reading of books but thats just a personal opinion.

Professor Hoffman is amazing. Her class was easy as long as you stayed on top of the work, but even if you get behind, she will still give you full credit once you completed the assignment. Textbooks are required for the class as all of your chapter assignments are in the book and the final is based on the other book. Highly recommend her!!

Professor Hoffman is a joy. She truly wants her students to succeed. The outline of the class is easy to follow. She helps any way she can to ensure your success. The assignments are reasonable, and make it easy to get an A / B as long as you follow the outline.

Dr. Hoffman is very open-minded, flexible & sets reasonable time frames to complete assignments. She did a great job organizing her class design, uses discussion board assignments and the lessons align with the chapters in the textbook. Option to work ahead & to complete weekly assignments vs weekly Zoom meetings.

She understands most of the time when people are taking an online class it is because we don't have the time to come in for lecture. As long as you do the work you get the credit even if it is not submitted on the due date. Reading material is easy and weekly assign. wasn't bad either. I would recommend her for anyone taking healthcare ethics!

The assignments were very manageable. It is an opinion based class so your answer is never wrong! If you need help with anything she responds to emails quickly which was very helpful. Every assignment posted she always commented something positive! I highly recommend taking this class.

I highly recommend this course! There are weekly chapter and discussion board assignments, but the work load is totally manageable with a few hours spent per week. Dr. Hoffman responds quickly to emails and is very helpful. She truly wants her students to succeed, but you do need to participate and put in the effort.

I honestly would take every class she teaches. She cares about her students and gives them ample time to complete assignments.

She is fair with the grading. I just wanted to let you know that you can submit your work by the end of the semester. They put a lot of thought into the curriculum. The assignments are easy to manage and great thinking pieces. Overall, I felt like I was there for curiosity and not for a grade.

Professor Hoffman does a great job at making the class manageable while still interested in what you're learning. The texts were easy to read and required you to do enough work to stay engaged but not feel like its taking up a ton of your time. Definitely would recommend!

I would like students to know that Professor Hoffman works with you and is fair. She clearly states what is needed to do to make the grade. If you have an issue and email her, she will get back to you as quickly as possible. I recommend taking her and this course.

Nice, manageable workload

Dr. Hoffman is a great professor, I'm not just saying that for a higher grade but she really is great. Even though it was an online class, it never felt like it, she was always one email away for help and questions you might have of the assignments.

Professor Hoffman made her material very easy to understand. She was very helpful when questions were asked and caring and understanding if you needed more time on an assignment due to a personal matter. I normally do not like taking solely online classes, but Professor Hoffman changed that for me! I would highly recommend her class to my peers!

I thought this professor was very informative and also very kind. Her grading system is very simple and easy to achieve a high grade from. Overall, I enjoyed having her as a professor and I would love to have her again if I could.

Professor Hoffman is one of the best professors that I have ever had. She understood and gave grace when I was going through some rough times and was patient and helped me to catch up. She is flexible with her work, allowing for more than one method of receiving credit for work. She also responded to my emails and questions throughout the day.

Very easy class. A reading, some simple chapter questions, and a DB every week. Does her best to be conscious of her students' various schedules by having flexible deadlines. Not as hard as CCAC's other philosophy classes: this one is geared more towards nursing students and the like.

Assignments aren't due until end of semester. She uses AI. Discussion Board heavy class. Final is a powerpoint. I didnt really like the voice over part or trying to get enough information to make it atleast 10 minutes. Class is very easy to get an A if you do your assignments. Not about right answer more based off your opinion of information given.

A step above the rest. Was lenient with when work was due and really wanted you to learn and retain the information learned at your own pace. I appreciate the style of teaching.

I enjoyed this class. The teacher allowed us to do the work at our own pace. The work was mostly opinion-based discussions. I enjoyed talking to my peers and understanding different perspectives on the different topics. I was so interested, I asked my friends their thoughts on some topics for fun. 5 stars! Great professor! Clear instructions!

They are very kind and helpful, If you are falling behind you don't have to worry, she will reach out to you and make sure everything is okay and if you need any assistance. Always sent encouraging words to everyone and made sure everyone passed. Best professor I've had!!!

Professor Hoffman is an excellent professor that cares about her students and their success. She always gets back to your questions and emails and does not penalize students for doing something wrong, she will let you know what you need to fix and give you back the points. This just shows she truly wants to see you succeed.

Professor Hoffman's course was well designed and clear. She allows you to work at your own pace. Support materials were offered for each assignment to help students reach her expectations. I truly appreciated the feedback given throughout the semester.

Took as a summer class and very easy to do. All I had to do was 1 discussion board a week, comment on another students DB, and end of chapter questions (simple and quick). Easy class to take with other classes or working a full time job. Great teacher and super understanding as well. 10/10 recommend

From this course, I found Dr. Hoffman's professional abilities to be exceptional. It was clear that she cared deeply about student growth, both academically and ethically, and created an environment that supported thoughtful reflection and respectful dialogue.

The Cadwell textbook was understandable. The class design was nice; I like how people are able to work at their own pace. The discussion boards were fine, and the length of the videos were reasonable. The final week got a bit hectic with the workload. I didn't really care for the thought experiments. Yes, I would recommend this class to my peers.

Although this class was online, it was engaging and fun. There are weekly chapter questions from the book and discussion posts. Professor is easy going and understanding. I would recommend and take other classes with her.
