Do not take biology from anyone else!! She does an amazing job of teaching a relatively intimidating subject. You will have one take-home and one in-class test for each chapter. Which is SO MUCH EASIER than one test over 5 chapters. And she's not borring, thankfully.
She treats everyone like you are 10 yrs old. She is very degrading and rude. I talked to other people taking the same course with other teachers, and their workload was about 1/2 of ours. She is very very strict and mean. Please do not take her for lab. I promise u, you will hate it!!!
Honestly...The best teacher that I have had. She is very clear and teaches in a way you can understand. Don't take this class from anyone else!!!
very degrading and rude. Picks her favorites. Not very helpful at all. Should be fired!
I just dont understand how anyone could ever say anything nice about this lady. Oh wait..she does pick a select few for her inner circle...other than that you're in trouble! She wont just be rude to you but treat you like a little child and scream at u in front of everyone. She is just terribly mean and hateful! Her workload was way too much!
She is the best teacher that I have ever had. She is demanding and forces you to learn, because you have a quiz every class. This is why I did so well in the class because I studied every night and learned the material for the quizzes. I would recommend her to anyone needeing this class. Do not take this class from anybody but her!!!
not a nice teacher
Great teacher! She makes you study, but it prepares you for the tests and department final. It is alot of work, but if you do the work you can easily get an A.
She is great! She gives a quiz for every chapter, that helps a lot with studying, keep you on your toes! She is hard! but she makes you think and study.she also knows her stuff! Quiz material are covered in class.she lecture out of the book.If you read the chapters before lecture and do your homework and quizzes, you can pass this class!
The day class started she noted that only 2-3 people would pass her class. I find that when someone tell you that you are doomed from the start they are no friend of yours
She is a very hard teacher and expects you to dedicate your life to this class. She gives take home and in class quizes on every chapter, which i did find rather helpful. She is a little degrading. One time she said that she could tell who was going to be successful in the health care field by your test scores and effort that you put into her class.
rude with a negative attitude.
She is definitely a hard teacher but not as bad as everyone is saying. I found it was easier to read the book instead of listen to her lectures. As long as you study you should be fine. Oh and the department final is way easier than her midterm so don't get discouraged; i bombed the midterm and still got a B+ in the class
For Biology she is the best. I know many other students who would transfer out of their other biology class mid semester just to get into her class. She holds a High standard but I think she is the best at helping you understand it.
Excellent instructor. Gives a lot of quizzes, but they teach you a lot. She really makes you think. Very fair.
I signed up for this workshop to help me with the original class because so many people had told me how hard it was, but her workshop is harder than the class. She has good intentions but she just goes overboard with the info she gives you and it really isn?t all necessary. Plus she teaches the concepts really slow so you have already been tested o
She is so awesome. I loved this class. I had others in my study group who didn't study and had bad grades. You must study--especially the first three chapters to get a basic understanding of the next few chapters. All of the quizzes help--no one quiz can hurt your grade. Take notes like crazy, study before class and you will do fine!
She is really nice... but the same as everyone else is saying the class is HARD.. and I personally thought she made it harder.
She is hard; her reasoning is that it is to help you succeed in your future BIOL classes. You must read the book, and then read it again, and then again. Her quizzes are helpful; they keep you on your toes. The final was ridiculous, way harder than it needed to be. Very difficult to take notes from; her slides are from a different book, read ahead.
She was the first teacher who really wanted her students to have a study group and I don't know about others groups but I liked mine and was very thankful. She had a trickier final than I thought and you have a lot of test and quizzes but it was great to have so much to study from. She isn't easy and REALLY STUDY for the final! I got a B+ :)
She taught from a different book and her questions were worded tricky on quizzes. There is a quize everyday of class. And a lot of mid-terms...... Very hard and am taking it again
I absolutely LOVED this class and would take another class from her in a heartbeat. It was probably one of the hardest class I have taken so far, but it prepared me so well for anatomy and chemistry. She wants her students to succeed, but not without some hard work. The study skills I learned, and the value of study groups have been priceless.
a true teacher!!!! she works in the field she teaches, cares about you as a person, wants you to pass and gives you all the help you need to do so. i love this teacher she should get teacher of the year!!
Linda is extremely helpful and concerned about her students. You will have to work for a good grade in this class, but you will also definitely learn from it.
You have to really apply yourself to pass this class, but it's hard when you have a job and 4 other classes to attend to. The teacher is really discouraging because on the first day of class, she told everyone that only few pass her class. You have to dedicate your life to this class in order to pass it. Other students I've talked to said to me "oh, you should never take a class with that teacher. She fails most students." and now I know why.
Linda is an awesome teacher. Biology has always been my most favorite subject and by far she is the best teacher for this subject that I've ever had. Biology is not an easy subject, you have to really apply yourself and if you don't you will fail. People who gave her negative rating were probably just looking for an easy A.That's not how life works
Every chapter you have a worksheet and a quiz. We had about five tests total. The tests are hard but if you do the worksheets and study what she writes in red on her powerpoints you will do fine! On the first day of class she said she gives out a ton of A's. Just put in the study time and you'll get one!
I was really scared after reading the comments here, but she's extremely warm and approachable and makes lighthearted jokes during lecture. Everything that she tests on is in the book, so if you read it, you'll ace the tests (which account for 50% of the class grade). She gives extra credit for participating in a study group. She teaches well!
Awesome teacher! Very lighthearted and fun, always willing to help at anytime. You do have to work in her class to succeed, but those up for the challenge will find a whole new love for biology! If you study what she writes in red though you'll do well :)
Linda was my first teacher after 7 years away from school, and she was everything I could have hoped for and more! I learned SO much and got a great grade at the same time. She loves what she does and it shows. She loves people, too, and knows students by name. Very flexible and fair.
She is very good teacher, Biology is hard but she is more then willing to help, Love her
she's a great teacher, and you know she wants you to do pretty well. she writes killer questions though, the kind where you have to pick the MOST correct answer. I would suggest taking the intro to bio class before taking her class so you will do better because its a tough class!
She is the best teacher I've ever had! Not only have I learned A LOT...she also cares for her students and makes this class fun. But don't forget: it's a hard class and you have to put some effort into it...!
Like the last comment I ended up dropping her class as well. I found the way she tought frustrating. She would do slide show presentations on the chapter (1 chapter a day) so 60+ slides to go through. If she didnt get through the slides she wouldnt start where she left off at the next class. We would begin a whole new chapter. Hard to follow.
She is awesome! There is a lot of work, but you learn so much. If you do the reading and utilize your study group (which gives you extra credit), you'll be fine for the quizzes and exams. She explains all concepts clearly and provides her lecture slides which she higlights for studying. She loves teaching and her passion for biology is contagious!
Linda is an amazing teacher! Don't be fooled, you will have to put hard work into this class but it's definitely worth it. She very is passionate about biology and I would recommend her to anyone that is driven and willing to learn.
The teacher is very bright, that being said she assumes you should already know half of what she is teaching. This is a beginner Biology class designed to build the foundation for the next biology classes you take. I feel as though she doesn't really teach she just gives websites and worksheets if I wanted that I would have taken an online course!
She assumes you already know everything there is about biology and the items that you need to comprehend, she skips over and just tells you to know it inside and out and to be able to draw the process. HORRIBLE.
Very difficult! Linda is nice, and she is a brilliant individual. But, she expects her students to be on her masters degree level when it comes to biology. There is a quiz ever class, she hands out 30+ question worksheets for each of the 23 chapters you will be expected to know inside and out during the 16 week semester. A lot of work!!
Linda is a fantastic instructor. She cares about her students and even offers to spend time outside of class to help you. Biology is not an easy course, but I have found, through hard work (studying, utilizing study groups, etc) you can earn an A. Linda is the best choice for SLCC's biology 1610.
I liked Linda. Very knowledgable on the subject and clear on her expectations. Her class is hard though. Quizzes every day in class and her tests are insane. My friend took this same class from someone else and had a much easier time. I felt she treated the class like bio majors as opposed to what it really was, a health science pre rec.
Very difficult! Quiz every class period but she is very informative. Can't really afford to miss a class or you will fall behind quickly. Felt a lot harder then a pre-req class.
Hands down the best teacher I have ever had in my college experience. She expects you to understand concepts but gives you power points and work sheets to help you out. If you take some time everyday to study then you will do fine...but if you don't study then don't expect a good grade.
Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. She expects you to understand the material but gives you plenty of tools. Give extra credit for study groups. Linda knows whats up.
Linda is the best teacher i have ever had! her class is set up perfectly, even though it's hard. She's has you do a worksheet and a quiz for every class period but it helps you understand the subject so much more. I recommend her! be prepared to spend hours and hours studying
She is very clear and always willing to help. I worked very hard for this class and Aced it. Her teaching style/methods is for the purpose of maintaining information. If you are going into any type of medical or biology major then you need this teacher. I wish she taught more classes! She is AWESOME!!
I took this class in the summer, and it was actually one of my favorite classes, if that says anything. She was SO willing to help, her lectures were SO clear, and nothing surprised you on the tests. You have to study, but the homework assignments really help. She's totally nice, understanding, and knowledgeable. If you can, take her class!!
Linda is a very genuine teacher, explains the material on her level of knowledge. I would make sure you have taken chemistry before going to her class, as well as previous bio classes. She is very hard and you will spend HOURS studying every week. Be prepared to work hard or fail.
Linda is a fantastic teacher. Although her class is difficult, she gives you the tools you will need to succeed. There are worksheets and quizzes due almost every class, but they are fair, and help you comprehend the material. I highly recommend her!
Linda is extremely bright and has her standards set pretty high for an introductory biology course. Class attendance is absolutely mandatory. She provides you with PowerPoint files which she reviews in class. If you study what is discussed in the powerpoint and do her worksheets you will be okay.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Very degrading and rude if you don't understand a concept. She assumes you don't have any other classes, work, or family. I would not take the class from her again.
If possible, take this class in the summer. I can't say why, but you won't regret it. It's intense, but she's a great teacher and everything she tests on is from her powerpoint presentations. She even marks them with stars and highlights in red the important stuff that will be on the test. Studied more than average for this class but got an A.
Linda is Wonderful. There is a quiz each class (roughly 5 ?'s)as long as you read the chapter and powerpoints you will do fine. The quizes, powerpoints and worksheets are PERFECT to study for the test. Biology is HARD, Linda teaches you so that you can actually LEARN. Which will make you more knowledgable in your profession. READ BOOK your Chapters
Jemmett is awful. This is meant to be a beginning biology course and I spent the semester lost, got D's on tests with weekly tutoring. She refused my request for help or extra credit, as I need a decent grade to get into my chosen career, and said that I 'do not have an aptitude for biology' and made degrading comments in front of the entire class.
Linda is a very difficult teacher. She demands a lot and study time for the class is 10-12 hours per week. Her lectures can be confusing because she goes fast. However, if you put in the time and memorize the slides from her power points and learn the concepts, you will do well. Stick with her slides. The book is ridiculous. I didn't use it a lot.
Very hard, I used to love biology. She teaches as if you have already taken several advance bio classes. Tutor even said the worksheets are way advanced for what we should be learning. When questions are asked she makes you feel stupid and you leave class more confused then when you went in. Horrible
She was nice but would be kind of grumpy and rude if the class didn't do great on an exam. It's a hard topic so you gotta put a lot of time into studying. Her worksheets are hard and the wording is terrible but her exams were a lot easier than the worksheets. If you come to class there's a lot of extra credit oppertunities
Linda is not the easiest professor, but she is good at her job. She gives you all the tools to do well, you just have to use them she gives extra credit questions on the test. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying, but all the information is there.
very good teacher, she makes sure you understand if you have a question. She cares about your success. If you are there and are serious about the course you will do fine. This is not an easy class, you have to do your homework and pay attention.
Linda is not a good teacher, she likes to spend class time showing off how smart she is. She just reads off her slide show and does not go into any depth or explain anything. She acts put out when asked questions. Do not take a class from her unless you understand Biology and are determined to teach yourself!
Linda is a fabulous teacher. Biology is my worst subject. If I needed extra help she was always willing to help me. There is a lot of work to be done. Doing the worksheets has helped me to understand what we were learning. Great personality. Love her, wish she taught more than this class. Would recommend her to anyone.
Linda was an excellent teacher. I found myself excited to attend her class. She is tough but, if you study the information she gives you, you will do fine. I haven't been to school in 22 years and she really helped me and took the time to help me when I didn't understand the concepts. She never made me feel dumb for not understanding. Take her.
Excellent teacher...I do not get Biology but she really helped me to understand it. There is work to do. She was always helpful and I to every chance I had to get extra help from her. If you don't study you will not do well. I would highly recommend Linda to anyone. Best teacher so far. Will miss taking her class.
Her rating for helpfulness should not be more than a two. AT MOST. she is not a good teacher.
Okay people - you have to understand, that this class is just difficult- its a lot of dedication and work. Key thing to do, is study like crazy, every single day. Study groups will be your BEST FRIEND! Linda is amazing teacher - Hard, but well worth it. I worked my butt off to get my grade and I'm proud of it. Wished she taught more classes!!!
To be frank, this is the best coursework and instructor you can take to best prepare you for the medical field. Linda is smart, challenging and passionate. If you can adjust to her style of learning and testing, you will excel if you apply yourself and use study groups. If you are not fully committed, this class will weed you out. Period.
Linda's teaching is clear and interesting. She will apply the material to her clinical experiences. Her worksheets and tests are hard, but she grades accordingly. You can do the worksheets with your study group, and she gives valuable bonus questions on the tests. She gives a great foundation for your other classes.
Awful teacher, take it from someone else. I started taking her class for a few weeks and transferred to another one. Tons of homework and quizzes. I took it from another teacher and passed easily. She requires a lot of you and makes it way harder than necessary.
This class is for people who want to learn, plain and simple. It's not for people who want to breeze through Biology. It's for the serious student who isn't afraid to but in time and effort, who is determined to LEARN a TON of material that will help them in their future careers as medical professionals. I loved this class and everything I learned.
Linda is amazing. She's hard that's for sure. But it's all worth it. You will study your butt off and think she's the worst but by the time you hit the final, you'll be thankful she pushed you. She's funny and keeps class interesting and can relate her lessons to just about anything. I highly recommend her unless you're not prepared to study A LOT.
Welcome to college. This is one of the most challenging classes I have taken, and required a lot of study time for tests and assignments. I absolutley loved Linda as a professor, I wish that she taught more biology classes. She provides everything you need to pass her class and will answer any questions you have. Show up to class, do your assignments, and study for testsquizzes. As long as you take it serious she will be willing to help you.
Linda is extremely smart. She has an extensive background on cell biology and is an active member on research projects. The class is difficult if you don't study, you have to study smart! She always makes herself available to students before class. Anyone interested in a medical career should take this course. She helps with critical thinking!
I rated Linda at the first of the semester. I didn't think i liked her and I complained that she wasn't helpful and she expected us to teach ourselves. I have really changed my mind about her and the class. First yes it is an intro Bio class meant to weed out people who cant cut it. Go in ask for help, email her work hard and u will pass.
Absolutely loved Linda. She's an amazing teacher who is obviously passionate about her subject. There were extra credit problems on the tests, which was awesome. Some people say her tests are hard but she tells you exactly what to study. This is a can't miss class and be prepared to study a lot.
Linda is very knowledgeable. She is specific in what she wants you to learn not only for her class, but for future classes and careers as well. She does what she can to help you succeed and expects you put in the effort to learn as well. Encourages study groups, gives extra credit, shares her work experience in the real world. Solid base builder.
Do not take this class unless you have 15 to 20 hours a week for homework. Many of the students would attend 3 of her classes to "get it" Be prepared for 4 to 5 hours a day to study and do homework. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ANOTHER 4 CREDIT CLASSS!!!! She makes her tests extremely hard and smiles about it. One midterm the avg score was 60.
I have not have a harder class in 3 years of college. She tells you right off expect 10 to 12 hours or more a week for homework. Take her if you have no life, job, kids, because you'll have to study sometimes all night. You have to know the answers from ALL angles, because she likes to do "all the above are correct" or "A and B" are correct.
Here's the deal with this class: if you are looking for an easy A, or are just trying to get your generals done- do not take it from Professor Jemmett. This class is perfect for you if you want to get a good base of understanding for future classes, and really want to learn. You will have to work hard for it- but you will learn so much! Loved it!
I enjoyed Linda!! The class is very hard but I studied my butt off. Definitely get a study group. It will save you. She makes you work for it but if you're willing to work hard, you'll get an A. To the person who said, if you have a job or kids to not take her class, don't pay any mind to that. I have kids and work and got an A. You can do it!
Wow!! She was insanely tough and very rude!!! Worst teacher I have had at SLCC. My face was in my book for about 6+ hrs a day! She has quizzes every class! Her midterms are on 4-5 chapters at a time! Only gives extra credit if you are in a study group with 6+ people (2x a week)!! If you take it from her... record the lectures & good luck!
This was my first Biology class in college and she was the worst pick I could have made. I was surprised to later find out how many students in my class fell in the same category that I did. I recommend to take her only if you've had Biology classes before because she expects for you to know a lot of the material before hand.
Linda is AMAZING! but she is tough. If you are going into a a medical field I seriously recommend taking her. Her class is hard and she is very picky about spelling, etc. But when you get to Anatomy and Philology you will realize her class and all the hard work was a life saver.
Tough teacher, but she'll tell you exactly what you need to know for tests, and she's very fair.
This class is fantastic. Yes, you have to study and work hard (surprise! College!), but I haven't ever taken a Biology class and I earned an A. She stars and reds the important information from her slides that will be on the test. I never read the book, never was tutored, and never studied more than 3 hours per week on the class. Love Linda!
Expect to actually study for this class, but also the assignments are not too bad. She doesn't try to trick you and she makes a point of telling you what will be on the test. She has a lot of tests but if you listen in lecture and do the assignments they aren;t too bad.
What this boils down to is I didn't feel like she taught me the material. I learned it myself. Beyond that there is no possible way to understand what she wants you to learn/know. All of her questions on tests and homework are basically tricks which are "supposed to make you think". If you can take a different prefessor... Do so.
LInda knows what she is doing, she says you need to study 12-15 hours but I did 1 and got an A- . her tests are hard and there is a work sheet and quiz for every chapter but she has good powerpoints and lectures, dont bother getting the book
Linda is very knowledgeable but when you ask her to explain in more depth she brushes it off and will not go into detail. When you ask questions she makes you feel dumb before answering it. If you are going into the medical field and actually need to know this stuff I would recommend her. She just makes it harder than it needs to be.
Linda is a great professor, and when she says, "This will be on the test." Or, "Know this by test day." She means it. She encourages anywhere between 12-14 hrs of study time per week. Which is accurate by all means. You really have to dedicate yourself to this class. It's not easy, but she teaches you everything you need to know to pass her tests.
Not helpful what so ever, taught myself throughout the course, she's so annoying, talks too much, tests are brutal, the whole class will be confused and she just laughed thinks its funny that the subject is difficult. I learned a lot just studying on my own yet she didn't take that into account of my grade. Don't take this course with this teacher.
This class was incredibly difficult, but I have learned a ton. I did have to get two different textbooks, because the department requires one, and she highly recommends the other. Hers is a lot easier to understand. She cares about her students and is passionate about what she is teaching. She also tailors her class for the medical field.
This professor is difficult and unhelpful. During class, a student asked to clarify, but she just suggested the student look it up in the book. Most of the material she teaches is more advanced than the course. Many times she exceeds the allotted class time, then tells you if you go, you will miss important info. Plan on teaching yourself!
I absolutely loved Linda. I was scared to take her class at first because everyone said how hard she is, and they were right she is pretty hard. I went back as a non-traditional student and so I had to be on my toes, but I loved this class. She is so smart. You do have to work hard, but its so worth it. One semester of hard work pays off.
Linda is a great instructor. Her understanding of Biology is extensive. She is a fair grader, but you have a work to get a good grade. She is not interested in you getting a good grade she is interested in you understanding the subject and succeeding in the future classes. If you stay on top of the subject matter and study, you should do ok.
Linda is awesome! This is coming from someone who will most likely have to re take the class, but I will certainly take it again from her! She's got a great personality and I find her lectures entertaining. Tests are pretty hard but there is never any surprises on them. She will tell you what will be on the upcoming tests during her lectures. STUDY
Linda is a great professor! With that being said, her class is NOT easy. However, I left the class feeling like I actually learned a lot. -Rarely used the textbook. She puts everything you need to know on powerpoints, and makes it clear what will be on the test. -Quizzes every day--these are good study materials. And she lets you drop 3.
Linda is super hard but I learned a lot from her class and I feel prepared for my next classes. Study her power point and worksheets and you should do well in her class.
Linda is a good instructor, however, I wouldn't take a class from her again. You need to study before class because she will make you take quizzes each day if you've learned something the class before. You only get 10 extra credit points if you meet with a study group two times a week, so be careful and do well on all the assignments and tests.
She is very rude. She is straightforward and tells you exactly what you need to know, what you will be tested on and how to prepare. She reads slides to you and rarely goes into more explanation than what is on them. But attendance is required and if you have a study group you will receive extra credit
The tests and quizzes are not hard if you keep up and don't miss class. Extra credit on all tests. When she suggests study groups do it. The worksheets can be really hard and wordy. She wants her students to know the material not just memorize it and will expect you to know it and how to apply it. She likes questions that are thought provoking!
Linda is not a teacher, she facilitates a course. Class is a quiz of previous lecture, followed by a power point read w/ little explanation. If you don't learn this way, will need to teach yourself. One worksheet/chapter w/ difficult questions. Great learning tool for me. Peer consult needed when I struggled. No Surprises, just not helpful.
I did not know about rate my professor when I signed up for this class, boy do I wish I would have. Linda was an extremely difficult teacher. For a beginner class she treated you like you were an idiot if you didnt understand something, especially when going to her study groups for help. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Test heavy , difficult test giver. No give with this instructor . Miss a class wont pass at all and very hard to catch up . Doesn't use text book given by department . Wouldn't suggest taking this professor if you work and go to school. Wont accommodate for anything. Instructor takes pride in failing students.
Linda is a very tough grader and likes to ask what she calls 'thought provoking' questions. HOWEVER, she does teach the material very well. She wants to make sure that you're understanding concepts rather than memorizing facts. I recommend printing out the lectures before class, it helps and is a great study tool. If you study well, you'll do fine.
It is a HARD class but completely worth it. I feel like I have learned SO much! I am not big into reading... but with listening to lectures from her and on Khan Academy everything turned out great! Towards the end of the semester I feel as though she wasn't as intense. Also extra credit after tests and she drops 3 quizzes. I would take her again.
One of my all time favorite professors. She teaches by giving you the big picture rather than just memorizing facts so you actually retain the info. You definitely have to work for your grade there's a quiz and hw almost every class. You learn SO much. Loved the way it was all taught, tests are not hard if you fully grasp the material. Quick grader
Linda is a stellar professor who makes biology interesting and exciting! Truthfully, I hated biology prior to taking this class from her; but now it all makes sense and I love it! Be sure to read the chapters, study at least 3-5 hours a week, and be in a study group. If you are struggling, then attend her workshop or watch the "amoeba sisters."
She knows her stuff, but she is an extremely difficult professor! This is an intro to college biology, but it was actually more advanced than that. You HAVE to study like crazy in order to get a good grade in this class. I learned very quickly that I couldn't go in to any of her tests feeling prepared even if I studied and felt really prepared.
Linda asks "thought provoking" questions, these are used to make you reason through and be sure you have a good understanding of the material. Show up, be present, ask questions in class or you probably won't pass. She holds a workshop, I highly recommend going whenever you can.
So this professor was a bit like an elementary teacher. She is easily annoyed with students and if you dont have answers for her ready when she asks she makes you feel quite uneducated. She also brags a lot about where she has been and what she has done in biology and she expects you to know everything off the bat.
Linda's class is difficult but definetly worth the amount of work. Grades are comprised of three exams, quizes and homeworks for each chapter. In her powerpoints she bolds what you need to study for the exams. This is beyond helpfu! Linda also offers extra credit. I would not reccomend taking this course during the summer. DON'T MISS CLASS!!!
This teacher's class Is difficult. She expects you to spend 13-14 hours each week studying. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS DURING THIS SUMMER. She is very rude and gets annoyed easily. She has favorites and will ignore you if you are not one of those people. She knows her stuff but acts like we are biologists. This was suppose to be an intro class.
I didn't read out of the book once so don't waste your money. She 'marks red' or 'stars' material that will be on the test in her PP's. Use this to your advantage because it makes a huge difference! Her class is very hard if you don't study the red or starred material but if you study tests will be a breeze.
Shes simply not a good teacher. She stumbles over her words when covering very complex material, making it even more confusing. Shes not helpful when people ask questions. She masks trick questions as "thought provoking" which just means she didnt cover it. Instead of being a thorough teacher she suggests you just google things you dont understand.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take this Professor unless you have time to breathe biology and chemistry combined 24/7. She goes extremely in depth so fast which is unnecessary. She is also very rude, condescending, and thrives off of failure. This class was very frustrating and i love biology.
Linda is a very tough professor. You really need to study at least 2 hours a day to pass her class. If you put in the work will understand biology in great depth. I learned so much from her. She is great at teaching the criteria.
Linda was so kind and you felt like she really wanted you to succeed. She gives endless extra credit opportunities and you can tell she loves what she does. She's also very funny! At the end of the semester, the whole class felt like she was our grandma who was tough but loved us. The class relies heavily on the textbook and lectures are long!
I highly recommend Linda! This class is hard but so worth it, especially if you plan on taking more biology classes because you will remember almost everything and apply it to your future courses. This class and professor helped me find my new love for science and biology and I will always remember this class.
Linda has been one of the best professors I have ever had. She makes sure you actually learn the material, and if you put in your effort, she will make sure you do well. In my opinion, pretty easy A for the difficulty of this kind of class. I would highly recommend her if you are in it to learn, and not just get the class over with.
I really liked her. I thought she was fair with grading and understanding at time. She wants to understand the material well. She gives out a LOTS of opportunity to pass the class. She gave out extra credits which was very nice of her. At times, she can make you feel stupid but she is willing to work with you.
Very hard course! DO NOT TAKE IT OVER SUMMER. Linda goes extremely fast and acts as if you have studied biology and chemistry your whole life. She can be rude & make you feel dumb. She does give a lot of extra credit opportunities which is the only reason I passed. I would only take the class from Linda if there are no other options.
Great instructor! The class is very difficult but Linda does a great job giving you all the material to get a good grade in this class. Also gives a lot of extra credit to bring your grades up at the end. Study hard and be on time and show up to every class!
Linda is tough professor! she is incredibly smart but she is not an easy A. She states she wants you to have a text book but I never used it. I recommend recording her lectures, and getting a study group together. That being said DO NOT MISS CLASS; if you do have someone record the lecture for you. Good Luck !!
She has all of her lecture materials online and lets you know exactly what will be on the test. Attend additional workshops that she teaches--it helps significantly. The textbook helped, but her slides are pretty much the textbook summed up. There is plenty of extra credit if you're willing to do it every week, or meet with a study group.
I highly recommend enrolling in Linda's BIOL1610 lecture, especially those preparing for the MCAT. She will help you build a solid foundation in Biology. Expect to put in the hours - Worksheets for every chapter, quizzes each class, research paper, 4 exams plus a final. Review powerpoints and go to the workshops, they will help tremendously.
I had this teacher during the covid-19 crisis. In the middle of the semester we had to transission to online. It was a very fast pocess and she has very low commucation. I missed a test and she did not let me take it the next day. She told us about that test 14 days before we actully took it. She was very unhelpful and talks down to you.
Took this class during the COVID-19 online transition; she was very present and available. Linda is one of the best professors I have ever had; very clear on how to get an A, and offers plenty of extra credit. Easy class if you are a good student, hard class if you're inconsistent or lazy. You don't need the textbook; I didn't use it once.
Linda is by far the best biology teacher I have ever had. She makes it really easy to understand and learn the material. She uses stars and red to underline what she expects you to know for tests and quizzes. There are quizzes every class. She also teaches the workshops which help a ton. You have to work hard for a grade but she makes it do able.
I got a C- in biology before SLCC. Linda was beyond amazing! I had used the workshops before, but never had someone so wonderful and easy to listen to, interactive, and non-judgemental. I highly recommend her! Biology can be tough but she makes it easier and very understanding, accessible hours, wonderful workshops! I wish she'd teach everything!
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. She did not help at all and it was all homework and lecture. I would NOT take her classes ever again. Worst college experience by far.
She will make this class as hard as she can for you. She cut down test time because we did "too good", we had to install a lock-down browser (bye-bye online notes) to do any quizzes or tests because we did too good again, she threatened us with webcams for tests. The best is that the grade on canvas means nothing and she will tell you the last week
This was honestly by far the worst professor I have ever had. When the class average was good she made everyone install a lock down browser even though the tests were open notes. None of her lecture notes helped with the worksheets, quizzes, or tests. Then at the last moment we all found out that our percentage grade means nothing. do not take!
Tests were impossible, doesn't give half credit for anything, frequently went off on tangents during lectures, extremely difficult grader. Save yourself and don't sign up for her class. Would give a -5 if I could.
horrible
Linda was one of the most difficult teachers I have taken. She makes you feel dumb if you ask questions. There aren't very many assignments in this class, but you have to study a TON to pass. One thing I did like is that she did workshops online that really helped me get more materials to study. Very hard class, glad it's over with.
Linda was such a fantastic teacher. If you attend all classes, read all lectures and do your homework, you will receive an A. The students who say she was hard, must not have been doing their homework honestly. She is very clear on what will be on the tests. Her review sessions are phenomenal!! Writing the research paper was my fav part.
She provides you with lots of videos to watch that can help. If you watch those and study, you should get an A. That being said, I dont think shes the best to take if you are going to struggle with biology. She acts as if everyone has a basic knowledge of biology and chemistry and if you ask her a question she cant answer she doesnt like that.
Linda is a great professor. Yes, she can be a little condescending when answering questions, but she really tries to set you up for success. She tells you exactly what you're going to be tested on and expects you to do your work. Her teaching style with Powerpoints and lecturing worked well for me and I left her class feeling like I learned a lot.
If you get bad test anxiety this professor is not for you. She zooms past information at the MANDATORY Zoom meetings and makes it virtually impossible to understand and interpret the information. The quizzes don't even match what you learn within the course. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
This is the hardest class Ive ever loved! Linda Jemmett knows the final is hard core, so she makes sure you know your stuff, even offering amazing workshops several times a week to help you grasp the concepts.
Professor Jemmett is THE BEST BIOLOGY PROFESSOR. I am so lucky, thankful, and happy I got to learn college biology from Professor Jemmet. Professor Jemmett gives real world examples throughout her lectures (as in working in the medical field) which is super encouraging to relate to. Recommendations: Go to ALL of her Workshops!! U get Extra Credit
Professor Jemmett is a very good instructor. I took Biology 1610 as a summer course. This is a difficult course to take in the summer as everything is condensed. She will tell you exactly what you need to study and do to pass her course. If you put in the time you will do well in her class.
I haven't taken biology for roughly 10 years now and jumping into college biology was absolutely nuts. Linda was an amazing instructor with deep knowledge of biology. She does not sugar coat and sets expectations at the beginning of semester so you knew what to expect. I'm surprised I made it out alive but grateful. One of the best teachers ever!
She offers extra credit if you attend her workshops, and it's probably necessary in order to pass her class... her lectures in class aren't enough. I think my biggest frustration was that she didn't post grades until the very end of the semester, so it's hard to know how you're doing in the class. I don't recommend taking her class.
Linda was definitely my most favorite teacher. The class is very hard and covers a lot of information, but she lets you know the first day of class. Lots of reading. While attendance isn't mandatory, you'll regret missing class. Super important to attend workshops if you don't understand something & they give extra credit. Would highly recommend
Linda was a fantastic teacher, it's really nice having an instructor who cares about the material that she's teaching. If you take advantage of the exam topic reviews that she runs it will help a lot. She offers extra credit worth full letter grade at end of each test. She does seem to be tougher than other professors though
Overall the best professor I've had! This course is challenging, so don't expect to pass without effort. However, this professor's lectures are highly engaging, and she always manages to correlate the material to real-life experiences. In addition, her workshops are amazing, and just attending them grants you extra credit.
Linda was amazing! It's a tough class, but she goes over everything you need to know. I didn't read the textbook often, doesn't hurt though. GO TO ALL THE WORKSHOPS!! They help tremendously and you get extra credit. You need to put in the effort to understand concepts, not just memorize facts. I studied 3-4 hours outside class each week.
