how many teachers do you know that can make Anthro interesting
This professor studied at Stanfurd, but nontheless she represents her education well, She is the Bomb! Go Bears!!!!!!! LOL
She makes the class very interesting. Awesome teacher. Gives out very good test reviews.
she discourages me from asking questions because she is so blunt about her answer it's kinda rude the way she responds like a put down overall her class is not too difficult she is hard to get a hold of
She was kind of scary at first. She is very direct and set on her course of how things are run. After a couple of weeks and if you really do your best, she proves to be an awesome teacher! She's excited about her subject and she is eager to share it!
I love her!! Yes, she seemed scary the first day and she informed us there would be a lot of work, but I was up for a challenge. I learned a lot from Dr. Kama'Ila and she encouraged me to think outside the box about things.
I've been waiting for a teacher to be blunt and responsive to those smart alicky people and the know it alls. She tells it like it is...no suger coating...love her class.
I took this class in the summer and it was surprisingly enjoyable. Classes went by really quickly and were interesting. At first she seemed a little intimidating, but she is very approachable and helpful. She lays down what is to be expected. Highly recommended.
Linda Kama'ila is a great Professor! She makes you think for yourself, she teaches outside the box. She is open to discussion if it is intelligent. Will not abide rude people! Life changing event, to take her classes! Intimidating but absolutely fair in dealing with students. A good soul!
Great professor! Difficult if you don't do the work, but as long as you come to class, take LOTS of lecture notes, and pay attention, you'll learn all you need to know to get an A in her class. I recommend her for all the Anthropology courses.
I think she is the greatest professor ever. She showed me what I could do. She made me fall in love with Anth. It is now my major. If you work hard in her class you'll get through it just fine. She is always ready to help and there when you need her. Follow her rules! She doen't have time for slackers. She is my idol.
Not an easy teacher, but after a while quite easy...plus, she knows what she's doing and how she needs to teach it to all of us.

I really liked the way she teaches. She's very clear. And also, she shows videos and models of primates, so that really helps. It's cool to know the origins of humans. It makes you think a lot. I recommend her.
ok teacher but misses class way too often. sometimes students get confused with her directions and she gets mad if you ask her to explain. somewhat intimidating. if you like videos take her class--
i agree with previous post. knows her stuff but too many class absences. "No Class Today" sign usually on class door.
I loved it! she is an awesome teacher..you learn soo much from her & she grabs ur attention to the subject.
Still waiting for the absences - when are those? She teaches the full time and people stay in their seats cuz it's usually interesting. Test was fair - she tested on what she taught.

Love this woman, she is very interesting and extremely intelligent. Her classes were always fun and the material covered was never boring. It was an easy A and all you have to do is show up and do the work.I know how lazy students can be over there(me one of them),but seriously this is nothing, wait until you transfer...that's where the fun begins.
She is a wonderfull teacher. The class is very interesting and fun.Her test are fair,i recommend her for a class.
shes cool! shes a lil rude, if youre an idiot and ask dumb questions. she only has a huge 15 page paper. snd test are easy!!!!
Lots of work to do. Very detailed timeline and essay. Sounds like a lot but easy A
This professor is full of information. Her lectures are interesting. SHe is a very care-free individual who is there to teach what she loves and does not try to impress you with her image. The assigned work might be a bit too much but worth it. I loved her class so much I took anthro 102 with her also.
This professor lacks communication which is vital to an online course. Does not keep to what she says. Very disorganized. Way too much work for 3 units, 3 papers of which one is 15 pages. Would not take another online class with her.
DID NOT LIKE HER AT ALL. Well she is a bit rude online... She expects you to know science and everything about it... one of her fave saying is... "you all should of learned this in 8th grade..." Makes you feel dumb for not knowing basic science. I would NOT recommend her at all!
She cancels class quite a bit. Be warned, you can earn minus points for giving "stupidly bad answers" on your tests. If you do not know a question on her tests, your better off leaving it blank. She is proof that "there's no such thing as a stupid answer" is only a myth. I wouldn't take another class with her if my life depended on it.
She is very rude! She asks for class participation yet, when she doesn't get the right answer to her questions. She ends up belittling you. I have to ask myself? Why does she chose to teach if she is not helping any student learn but is just there to judge them and belittle them.
one of the BEST professors in campus. you will learn a lot from her. she is very supportive and will answer any good questions you have, just PARTICIPATE IN CLASS! she also counts leadership and participation. shes NOT rude.. I WOULD RECOMMEND DR. KAMAILA for anyone INTERESTED in anthropology, shes an awesome prof. shes great. -gardy borromeo
I was very scared to take her but needed to get the class out of the way. She is tough but only cause she wants you to KNOW what she is teaching. As long as you put in effort you are fine. She gives you a detailed outline of what she wants in the paper. In the end I was happy I didnt go by other peoples thoughts.
Very intelligent and highly knowledgeable! She can be intimidating, but she just wants you to learn. Wow he class was such a wakeup call. I highly recommend taking any of her class, but especially her MAGIC/WITCHCRAFT/RELIGON.
So condescending. Implies everyone is a plagerizer and a cheater. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Tries to make the class so difficult.
This teacher is nuts. she expects the world out of you and more. i took her online summer class, it was ridiculous. i've taken summer classes before but nothing like this. only take her if you too are crazy! she thinks you should know everything and when you act like you do she shuts you down and rubs it in your face! DONT DO IT!
Dr.Kamaila is one of the most professional and knowledgeable instructors I have had the pleasure to meet. She challenges you so that you can be a better student. If you want the best education for yourself take the course, listen, ask questions and learn a lot. She gets annoyed when grown adults ask questions that she has already answered, big NO NO
Dr.Kamaila is a fantastic professor. She's very intelligent and very fair/honest. She makes you work for your grade which, as you are in college, you SHOULD be doing. Thank you Professor Kamaila. My major is Pol Sci, but because of this class I actually considered changing it to Anthro. Pay attention, attend, READ, do work & you'll be fine.
You need to attend or she will drop you. She makes classes really interesting and fun. The movies are great and interesting. She is one of the best teachers I have had at Oxnard College. I highly recommend her. She is so smart, interesting, nice, and makes learning fun. I suggest talking to her during her office hours, she is so knowledgeable.
Dr. K is one of the most brilliant professors I have had the pleasure to meet. Im on my second year & she never ceases to amaze me. The classes are extremely educational and fun, which is why we are here. Take the class listen and learn and you will get an A. Oh btw, she uses webstar, so be familiar with it in order to take test and review material
Again: Dr.Kamaila is a fantastic professor.
Amazing teacher! Her classes are exciting, fun, and a journey. I am honored to have taken two classses from her, and will be taking a third in the Fall.
Dr. Kamaila is an amazing, charismatic teacher. I have taken her Anthropology classes 4 times already and she has soo much information to offer. She is very fair. She requires you to pay attention. As long as you do what she asks and get involved in class--she will appreciate you and your effort. She is extremely helpful. I LOVE HER
THIS IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.
Excellent teacher. She is different than a lot of other teachers in the fact that she expects a lot out of you and actually tries to get you to learn something instead of memorizing it. If you want a new experience and aren't afraid of a new style of teaching, take her class.
Awesome lady.
There is nothing good about Dr. Kamaila that has not been said before. If you do the work you'll get the grade but most importantly you WILL learn. She is the best professor Oxnard College has to offer. I took 3 classes and its not my major. I loved her!
I have never had such an intelligent, well versed teacher who knows her stuff like Prof. K. Her knowledge of the subject and many others blows my mind. She is NOT rude as another student said. She states the OBVIOUS in a plain way to fix mistakes so you and others can move on and learn. She doesn't pull any punches and rightly so. A+++++++
The most intelligent women in the 805. She will teach you more about life in her one class than you can learn in a year. She is very tough, but if you REALLY want to learn I promise you that you will not regret taking her class. She will give you tough love, so don't be discouraged, Just take a min to think about what she's trying to teach you. -J
There is just too much work. Essays, discussion boards, films, quizzes, reading and extra reading, leadership participation which accounts 10% of your grade. No doubt you will learn if you do all that. If this is your major, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll find yourself drowning in work amongst your other classes. It's about quality not quantity.
For her essays, be sure to use lots of detail and outside sources. She loves information, especially use the resources she provides. Keep up with the work, and don't take the class if you plan on sleeping in. College is a place to learn, not be handed knowledge.
She was great. You do have to study n you do need to write but it's mostly mentioning those key points that she's looking for. You can earn extra cred too. She was very helpful and you are free to ask anything. Taking this instructor is a must. Initially I had no interest in this class but became interested because of her comments on things.
Having the book on time and reading the material is essential, participation is also a MUST! Overall the course is easy if you can make time to do the work. I really enjoyed her class and learned a great deal from professor Kamaila. She keeps her students involved throughout the course via discussions. Syllabus is KEY!
Honestly very chill prof. Very interesting subject. Relates well to students. Multiple choice exams. Can take exams twice if u want. Promptly answers students questions. Easy A. Would take another class from her.
I took this class as a requirement. Not knowing what to expect I was pleasantly surprised, she is a wonderful professor. If you need help - email her - she responds promptly. Be prepared to keep up with the reading, assignments, quizzes and you will do great! I was sad to see this class come to an end!
She is tough but if you do the work and listen to her feedback you will pass.
I took anth 101 in a 4 week online summer class. Overall it was what was expected. Offers extra credit. She unlocked D2L a week early and closed a week late, making a 4 week class into a 6 week class. participate in discussions, she gives feedback. all quizzes you are able to take twice and the better score is kept. She also grades on a curve
Dr K makes it clear that participation matters and is a big part of your final grade. You will definitely need to be reading everything to fully understand and pass this class.
I'm currently taking this class online. She marks discussion posts as mandatory and doesn't include due dates for all mandatory posts. I'm a fan of constructive criticism, but there is nothing constructive about her criticism. It's just "Well actually, you're wrong." Feedback is condescending. Shows off knowledge, doesn't actually want to help.
Expected more....
I agree with the people below my post I took her class online. && its true she marks discussion posts as mandatory and didn't have due dates.
Challenging class, but not difficult. Your college skills WILL be put to the test in her class. Follow her instructions and you will be successful in her class. She is very good about getting back to student of they have questions. *FINAL PAPER IS WORTH ALMOST HALF OF YOUR GRADE
Horrible online class. I've taken plenty online classes and this by far was the most disorganized and convoluted layout I've seen. Maybe the prof/course is different in person?? On posts she responds condescendingly. I am always willing to put in work in any class but its so all over the place & its not worth getting a bad grade.
I took the 9 week course and there is a lot of ground to cover for the short time. Dr. K makes it clear what she wants as far as assignments as well as level of aptitude one may need to do well in the class. This class is not for the faint of heart; what you don't know or understand you will have to make the time to research.
Dr. K is very knowledgeable and will answer and clearly explain any questions you may have. Personally one of my favorite Professors
Her class is extremely interesting, but that is because of the topic. This professor does not know how to talk to people. She comes off rude, condescending and belitting. I'm an adult and I don't think she would have gotten far speaking to me in this manner in person. Lucky for us both that I took her online class.
She's rude, you can tell by the way she discuss/talk on her lectures. (Mocks religion, belittles students who are clueless about basic science, can't stand being corrected, lots of H.W. strict on dues but shows up 10 minutes late on class, demands so much work compared to courses with bigger units. The only teacher that will flood your "canvas".
Do not have a personal issue come up in your life that prevents you from doing your work. This professor WILL NOT email you back and you WILL be locked out of your homework even for an honest and worthy excuse. LONG quizzes not a lot of time to take them. LEADERSHIP GRADE? Canvas set up confusing. Random extra credit shows up and vanishes quickly.
This professor is beyond RUDE and couldn't handle being corrected when she said a wrong information. Demands a lot of work as if she's the only subject you're taking but ALWAYS SHOWS UP LATE IN CLASS. Good at giving nonsense activities too like showing class the map of Europe (2 mins) and expects you to be able to draw it. LOL.
The lab for Anth101 is very manageable. If you keep up on Canvas with all the work you can pass easily and finish the class faster. She offers the deal of reaching 500 pts. in the class and you are done with an A. Most people finish 3 weeks early before the class ends, but if you keep up with the deadlines.
She comes off as rude and doesnt know how to properly explain the lecture.
Linda is a great teacher and her lectures are very informative. As long as you do your work and study before the tests, it is not really a hard class. I enjoy the challenge of learning new subjects and Linda is very generous with her grading as long as you do sufficient work.
I took her 8-week online summer course. She expects a lot out of her students as we are in college. She comes off belittling but don't take it personal, she wants you to succeed! If you put in any extra work on any assignment, she will give you extra credit! Check the class everyday! She responds to every discussion post, that is a dedicated prof!
You definitely have to work for that A, the tests are worth so many points compared to her mandatory discussion posts. You have several mandatory discussions and she wants you to view videos in which you would have to put time stamps. Take this class online not in person, I took this class as a last resort and passed but I put in some much time!
Professor Kamaila is amazing but tough! Shes well educated, caring, precise, and expects students to put above average effort in coursework as any college student should. Kamaila encourages critical thinking and incorporates fun activities for hands-on learning. Ive taken 3 courses with Kamaila, and highly recommend her. Just dont slack off!
By all means, if you are faint of heart, this is NOT the Professor for you. Kamaila is an amazing professor but at times, Ive seen, people are turned off at her assertive way of teaching. As long as you take yourself seriously as a student, you will have no issues. Kamaila is dedicated and puts a lot of effort into her material for her students.
VERY rude. Always late. Nonsense activities. Worst professor.
Professor Kamaila is a tough grader but as long as you are very descriptive with your answers, follow the directions, and do the reading you should get a good grade. She also always gives feedback on how to improve your work.
Im taking her online, this is my 2nd week with her and I already want to withdrawal. She is a super tough grader, which is fine. However its the way she gives the feedback , SO MUCH ATTITUDE. I most likely wouldnt retake her course. I thought this class was going to be fun and interesting, but she makes it stressful.
professor Kama'ila was a tough grader but gave the best feedback in order for you to better yourself the next time. she genuinely teaches you all college standards in her class and is super honest, i'd take her if you don't understand how college necessarily works because her feedback can become helpful.
Professor Kama'ila is a tough grader but gives feedback for improvement. I took the full online class with no zoom meetings. The class is very linear to follow since she relies on the course syllabus. I recommend going over the syllabus at the beginning of the semester to clear up any questions since she doesn't reply to emails quickly.
I took her online course and came to realize this one of if not the most unorganized professors I have ever bore witness to. Her assignments were all over the page, the due times were out of order so easy to miss assignments due because she would post them near items due in weeks. Her assignments also reeked of little to no effort on her part.
This professor is very clear and informative. If you are sensitive don't take her demeanor personally, she is very matter of fact. Class was very interesting. Lots of reading and lots of research. she is a fair grader.
This class is just bad, lazy teaching, in fact none. Very long passages explaining assignments yet leaves huge room for confusion. Each student does almost each assignment completely different so it's obviously a common theme. NONSENSE assignments, FULL OF NONSENSE, lazy assignments that take 4 hours to do and are only 20 points. So disorganized.
She does not lecture in any way, there is no textbook to go off of which would be fine if she would at least give us worksheets to read before giving us assignments but instead Canvas is filled with assignments and nothing to go by. She expects students to google/youtube everything.
This Professor is unorganized, video and creating silly content heavy. She gives no clear expectations for her class. She is very passive aggressive and pretty rude when asked a simple question. Do NOT take.
This class may be easier to follow in in-person format, rather than online. The text type info comes from many different sources. Lots of open ended questions. Effort counts with this Professor.
I'm taking her 8-week online course and it's awful. Her instructions are written sloppily, everything is disorganized. Most of the course involves written "lectures" that seem to have no purpose or summaries of long videos. I really wanted to enjoy this class but with easily given assignments that demand tedious work, I only care about passing now
This professor is absolutely awful. This is a one credit class and I had to do more work for this class than all my other classes this semester combined. She gives very unclear instructions and you have to re-read the instructions like ten times just to somewhat understand what is being asked.
Half of the assignments have nothing to do with biological anthropology. The assignments are not related to a text book and the professor does absolutely no teaching or lectures, you have to google everything to learn. You have about two assignments due every other day and they are worth around 20 points but take about 5 hours to do each. Awful.
Hello all, I just wanted to let you all know that this teacher is incredibly passive aggressive with her responses, and instructions really confusing. I've had to do assignments that are for no absolute reason to be more harder than my 3 other classes. Although I did take this class initially since I was interested, I was just more worried to pass.
There's no reason for her to have students doing extremely long and meaningless assignments for 4+ hours just to receive 15 points. She gives unclear instructions then will tell you the point of the assignment is to "figure it out." Then when you turn it in, she blows it up and marks you for every single thing she considers an error. Not cool.
I was appalled at every aspect of this professor & her class. Not only is she incredibly inconsistent while grading, but her assignments are very confusing and could take students up to 8 hrs to complete for a mere 20 points. Her rude/snarky public comments towards students in discussions are shameful, & she believes wikipedia is a trusted source.
I took the lab class this semester and finished it in about 4 weeks. Once you achieve 400 points you get an A and are done with the class. Don't get me wrong, assignments can be lengthy but if you knock out all the assignments in the first few weeks you won't regret it because as the course progresses it gets harder.
I took Kama'ila for the Anthro Lab and its a lot of work (its a short class and thats to be suspected) her syllabus is not very clear and didnt answer emails. she seemed to have given up on the class by passing a buch of student including me I felt like I didnt learn anything! shes not the worst but there is better Anthro teachers at OC!
I took her Lab after I took Anthropology 101 she is pretty direct with her assignments, but she really likes to be nit-picky towards the work especially if it is a lot of work. but on the upside if you do a certain amount of assignments, you can end the classes early then the semester. (I don't know if thats allowed but she did that for my class)
