a tough teacher but OK if you get on her good side.

She's O.K. However, the text that was used was very interesting and she allows for a great deal of freedom for interpetation. There's a lot of group work. Be warned, if you're easily offended you may not like her.
This professor is great. She lets you read the primary texts for yourself. Is open to many interpretations. Keeps the class controlled (no annoying cell phones and late people) so one can learn. Those that don't like her are lazy and don't want to work.
The way she runs her class (as a huge discussion) is a great learning experience. It is fun and informative. She lets you do the learning yourself. I recommend her highly.
She is great. A completely different and refreshing style that keeps your attention and allows you to learn about the material and yourself. I highly recommend.
She is great! Class is interesting and you get a ton of tries to get your paper right. It is almost impossible to get a bad grade.

strict instructor. very insightful in her field
GREAT TEACHER.IF YOU DON'T LIKE WRITTING ESSAYS I ADVISE YOU NOT TO TAKE IT. SHE IS VERY UNDERSTANDING AND HELPFUL.YOU HAVE TO DEFENETLY READ THE TEXT AND BE ON YOUR TOES. ALSO NEVER BE LATE SHE DOESN'T LIKE THAT TOO MUCH. SHE WAS A GREAT TEACHER IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING
a very interesting class, teaches in a very interesting style, the focus is on discussion in small groups as well as class discussion. Learning is valued above doing busy work.
this is an interesting class. you are introduced to many religions. she's open to all opinions. the bad thing is that her essay papers. she expects the paper to be very detailed. you have to really work to get a B or C grade. but you get million of times to get a higher grade.
A lot of group discussion. did not have exams. Assigned two papers. Not a difficult class. I liked her method of teaching. She gives you several chances to improve your grade on the papers. not a bad class.
Very helpful and interested in the students understanding. The lectures were interesting and always looked forward to. The papers were long and tedious but if the student follows along in class they are well prepared. The class gets easier as it progresses.
I love this class. Professor is intelligent and knows her subject like the back of her hand. Only had one paper due which you get to revise and turn in as your final. Pay attention, she loves participation. If you want to learn something in college, take a class with her.
if you hate essays, not the right class
I didn't really know why she had TWO TA'S, it seemed very unnecessary. Definitely STAY AWAY if you are bad at essays or don't like them. She will make you turn in the essay 3 times and every time hand it back with "EXPAND" "MORE!!!" etc written all over it. Found myself writing the dumbest stuff just for the sake of "adding more" like she wants.
this class sucks the D I C K. she actually thinks she's helping students while she wastes their lives with her worthless information, activities, and assignments. i enjoy counting washing machine rotations more than this class.
Okay, this is the deal with Lam-Easton: she is smart, and strict, and she knows a lot. If you want to do well in her class then make the first draft of the first paper outstanding. She will give you comments, and so you make minor changes. Do make minor changes. Easy. And, be nice to the TAs, she listens to them.
Proffessor ir smart, but unclear at times and just gets on everyones nerves, the tas are more helpfull. She is very strict and treats us like highschool students and the class IMO is boring, if you are into philosophy and BS like that then take this class....class isn't too hard, but requires more work than is expected from a level 100 class.
You need to put a lot of effort into this class, but if you're willing to work, it's great. You need to be able to think, write essays, and follow direction. I loved this class and would like to take other classes taught by Lam-Easton.

Very smart lady and very insightful. This class is for someone who wants to be challenged. A lot lof analyzing and reading. Must have complex thoughts on material when readed. She is strict and dont walk in late. Not a class for slackers or ppl who think they can BS. She is nice and I loved her class. She is super nice if u do ur job
Prof. has great knowledge of subject. She expects a lot from her students. She can be very rude at times because of her high standards. She will try to break your spirit with the midterm, but just stick with it. I learned a lot in this class and would recommend it if you are willing to work hard. Not an easy class.
great teacher but she sometimes shows favorites
Class was decent. Only graded on 2 term papers and 2 rewrites of those term papers and attendance. Class wasn't difficult but it wasn't very interesting either.
If you have a large interest in the subject, take this class! She really makes you use your brain, and it really can give you a different outlook on how to read certain types of texts! If you're good with critical analysis papers, you'll do well! A lot of small group discussions, combined with entire class discussions! I highly recommend her!
She was one of the worst teachers I have ever had.
Class itself was not bad...not too hard, minimal homework but crazy papers. She plays hardcore favorites if she doesn't like you, class will be hell.
Subjective and arbitrary grading, if she likes you, you'll get a good grade, if not, too bad for you.
If you do your work, she gives you the A. I am not kidding you. DO YOUR WORK! If you are not going to go to class, be late, or be lazy, then of course you get a bad grade. She is a fair grader, she helps you with everything you need. Don't be afraid to go to her. She will listen, and do what is best for her students.
Shes ok. Before entering the class I was excited until I found out we had to write essays. It wasnt that bad after, but she was a very hard grader. If you ask shel help, but if you dont understand something and dont ask youl never know. You will not get an easy grade. You have to go to class everyday, and never be late.Make sure you participate also.
She's a no-nonsense person and will not tolerate that behavior in class. That said, her class is HIGHLY refreshing in that it is very open to interpretation and THINKING. If you can handle writing detailed, thoughtful essays then this is a class for you. Challenging but thought-provoking at the same time. Take this class if you want to LEARN.
I hated this class. It seemed interesting until she assigned the first paper. I only missed one class and was never late. I tried so hard on my papers and still only received a B- in the class. I asked for help several times from her and from the student teachers and neither source provided much information. Seriously, avoid this class if possible.
Lam-Easton is an amazing professor. Definitely makes the college experience worthwhile. You should take this class if you want your life enriched. However, do not take this course if you're a screw-up. As for people complaining about having to write a long paper, it's true, but this is college. Get used to it.
I LOVED Dr. Lam-Easton's class. There is a lot of work but the work load decreases as the semester goes by while other classes increase the load. Attendance is MANDATORY. She's understanding and very informative. No final, but three portfolios and something due every week. Do the work, show up, participate and you'll be great! And you learn A LOT!!
She is good at explaining concepts. The class is very peculiar, though. Attendance is mandatory, the material is...interesting, to say the least. The class was enjoyable, but definitely hard to follow, not referring to difficulty.
This was a blessing of a class! Work was so painless, and putting together "portfolios" was a breeze, because you have so much time to do it, it's ridiculously easy, and help if you need it. Most classes were under 30 minutes, and as other classes became more laborous, her's eased up (she'll admit it!) GREAT GE requirement with so little effort!
I HAVE TAKEN 3 OF HER CLASSES AND PLAN ON TAKING ANOTHER. SHE IS VERY HELPFUL AND IS WILLING TO OFFER HER SERVICES TO ANY OF HER STUDENTS.IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO WORK,THAN DON'T BOTHER TAKING HER CLASS.ANY OF THEM.SHE WANTS SERIOUS STUDENTS WHO ARE PAYING TO BE EDUCATED NOT BABYSAT!YES SHE'S FIRM BUT FAIR!
This class was so easy. Attendance is mandatory just because you NEED to know the material for the assignments and portfolios and this is the only way you'll get it. 3 portfolios all very easy to put together. Professor Lam-Easton is very intimidating but a very smart and wonderful professor.
It's an easy class. She doesn't really TEACH, she just has you read the text book (like 10 pages top) and then reviews it, and then you get homework. homework is looking for media examples on religion and you analyze them. Easy-ish class, she's a cool teacher. class is mandatory. don't show up late. ask questions, she won't mind.
This class was AWFUL. Ridiculous assignments that have NOTHING to do with relgious studies. Subjective grading on the portfolio and in class. When you ask about your grade she gives you half answers and says she's not going to change your grade anyways. ONLY good thing is classes last about 10-30mins.
She is the most incompetent teacher I have ever had. She taught nothing. We had to figure out her idiotic assignments on our own. When we turned in our work she didn't even read it. She was rarely in class(15-20min.), but when she was she would find someone to yell at. Avoid the insanity at all costs.
This class is just wrong. The work load takes you HOURS to do. Im talking like 10-15 hours of work a week. One assignment was over 80 printed pages. I thought this class was going to be easy. I was wrong. Dead wrong. She doesnt teach, shes barely there, and she expects you to figure her assignments out by yourself. Dont take this class.
In the beginning, this class took SEVERAL HOURS of hard work but it cools down A LOT as the semester continues. she gets to the point in her lectures where she basically goes over what you need for your media ex. and portfolio. Classes can take up to 5 min to 40 minutes. Work hard and you will get an A.
Hey whiners ? this is a university, not a pre-school! LLE makes you think for yourself - you will learn from her! Lots of writing? Yep, that?s what higher education is all about. If you are unwilling to work, do not take her classes. Plenty of dedicated students appreciate her as an RS educator. She is one of the very best!
She is the head of the department, and unfortunatnly a very cold person. She is very occupied with whatever she is doing, and will not make the extra time to meet with a student. Dont have an appointment? Dont even try talking to her. She will embarrass you openly, and not listen. She teaches just for the grade with no personal value added.
Everytime i went to her office hours it would be a walk and talk type of thing. I got 100% on everything because i just did all the hw (and there is ALOT). every class only lasted 20 mins. She explains things like 10 times and slowly. the class really had nothing to do with religion which sucked the most. ps. invest in a printer.
assignment a week, its big but the only thing. Do it right and show some intrest youll pass everytime its alot of work but as the semester goes to an end the portfolio was the best final ever
she barely teaches and i do not think we actually discussed religion once! she only discusses the next assignment and classes only last about 20 minutes. if you want to actually learn about religion do not take this class... also if you commute this class is a waste of time! a half hour drive both ways for a 15 minute class...she sucks!
worst teacher i have ever had at csun. she teaches for 15 minutes and picks favorites. one of those classes where you sit back and think, "why do u even teach if you hate students so much??" horrible. i do not recommend her to anyone, stay away!!!
This is a professor you do not take if you plan to be LAZY! The first week or two will be confusing, but that is expected, she even says so. If you are in college, then you are expected to work like a college student. Simple as that. The class becomes easy if you participate (give an effort). She may seem cold, but probably the best prof I've had.
At first i hated this teacher because there was so much work going on. However, the more we moved along the more i realized she hardly reads any of the work, she looks it over quickly and gives it back. Its an easy A if you do the work, however you don't learn a lot and yes she tends to let you out early. I wouldn't mind taking her again
This is a professor that you want to take if you want to have a writing sample for grad. school. Her midterm is a first shot at the final, the final is a huge revision--again, perfect opportunity for a writing sample. The work is only difficult if you don't do it.
Absolutely loved this class. She can be strict, but just don't cross her and she'll like you. Do the work and learn! I sure did, it was fun and interesting and really makes you think. I like this professor, definitely recommend.
Great teacher. There is a lot of work and she is very set in her ways about how the class should be run. However, she doesn't believe in wasting time, if there is nothing to teach then she won't. The work is all related to the class and there are really no tests or exams. She grades on intellectual growth more than anything else. Highly recommended
She definitely puts you to work, but that's part of the deal with college. Listen to her carefully, apply yourself, and if you don't understand - ask! She can tell how much effort you're putting in, and that will definitely make it or break it in the class. She will help if you if she can tell you are putting your best foot forward. Learned a lot!
Great teacher not hard at all very easy just take your notes pay attention and go to class if not you'll miss the weeks lesson! No final just a lot of work!
Great Teacher, No final, a lot of work, come out early!!
Good class, good professor
AMAZING TEACHER. she may try to scare u off at first. she is all about work. if you don't understand, still do the work and turn it in, then ask her questions like "if i change this and put that would it help" she wants to know that your learning. i REALLY enjoyed her class & i learned a lot BTW she lets you correct your wrongs, so don't stress.
Do not be scared off by her, she is slightly intimidating work-wise and she doesn't seem to be the nicest person right off the bat, but she truly wanted us to learn something. Her teaching methods are very different but I took away a lot from her. If we got our work done and on task, we got out early every day, and no final. Just follow her rules!
Do not show up late, do all reading and assignments and you will be fine. She has a unique style, but all work is practice for the final paper. NO FINAL EXAM! So when all the other classes are getting crazy, your work is already done. I loved her class, lectures were more discussion on readings. Left class early a lot. I definitely recommend!
This professor is a nice lady, however, I don't think she knows what she's talking about. The workload is ridiculous. Most assignments are more than 10 pages long. She doesn't read your whole assignment. She grades based on the first two or three pages. If you ask what you need to improve on she'll help you, but I do not recommend this class.
She is a wonderful professor! She may appear intimidating at first, but once you get past the first few weeks you come to truly appreciate her teaching style. The final papers she assigns for her courses are also one of the best ways to prepare for writing very long papers in grad school in any humanities or social and behavioral fields.
Do not show up late, do all the reading and hw assignments and you will be fine. Homework is necessary prep for final paper which is 10+ pages. NO FINAL EXAM! I loved her class, lectures were more discussion on readings. Don't take this class unless you are interested in doing the work and engaging in meaningful conversation. Classes ended early.
She seems scary at first, but after a while she's easy-going and funny. The assignments are a lot of work, but she explains them well and if you budget your time well, you'll be fine. No tests, no midterm, and no final. She let us out of class like an hour early every day, but do not be late to class ever!
Professor Lam- Easton is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is clear and to the point with assignments. Class never took longer than half an hour. The work is semi-heavy but super once you get the hang of it. I recommend taking her for this class and I am sure any other class she teaches. Just do the really easy work.
Hmmm. She can be strict, cross, and particular, and her assignments can be very pedantic; her grading is harsh, as well. The good part is class got out within 20-30 minutes, but accordingly don't take this class if you commute far. Just do the best you can to fulfill the assignments, and try to focus on what she teaches.
Not the warmest and fuzziest person, very intimidating on day 1 but keep with it. There are no tests really, just Buddhist models, working in class groups and a big paper, which you must do a good job after draft 1 feedback. She never kept us the whole 3 hrs. She makes you think and provides no materials other than the texts.
Professor Easton is VERY intimidating at first, but she has a kind and caring heart. She wants you to learn, but you have to work for it! If you don't want to work for your grade, then don't take this class. There were weekly models, discussions, and one big paper. Attendance counts & participation is looked for. Never stayed the whole 3 hours.
Dr. Lam Easton is brilliant! I took her for RS204, RS395, RS310 AND RS390. She's helpful, caring, clear, concise and to the point. She has challenged me in so many ways, my levels of sophistication in writing and critical thinking have developed so well over the years. She is amazing, without a doubt!
I was disappointed at the quality of instruction given by this professor. She assigns a 10-15 page "model," and doesn't accept anything in essay format? Also, whenever students raised their hands, the instructor would often shut them down, and refuse to answer their questions. The two textbooks we used in class did not relate to the essay.
Very straight up and to the point
Professor Lam-Easton is an awesome Professor. She is intimidating at first but once you have had the chance to sit through a couple of her classes, she is great. If you worker harder than your average student, she gives you respect and helps you in any way she can. I enjoyed her class very much and she's interesting. Take her, you won't regret it.
This prof is very rough around the edges, but has a heart of gold. She wants you to think, not just sit there. Say something in class. No classes went full 3 hours. Paper assignment was very clear. Re-write chance to get the A you want. Read the books and do the models and you are good to go. BE ON TIME. She hates late comers.
This professor may seem like a strict lady on the first day but she really sweet and kind throughout the semester. During classes, she really made sure we understood the assignments. She does not give any tests but her assignments are very time consuming. The lecture rarely passed over 20 minutes.
Not the warmest professor in the world, but stick to it. She's really intimidating on the first day of class, but if you stick to it you will learn a lot from her and she'll start to soften up a tiny bit. As long as you do the work, participate in class and show up on time, it'll be a smooth semester for you! Definitely take her.
Everyone is right in saying she is intimidating at first, but she is truly a diamond. She has a unique structure of her class that was confusing at first, but really came into its own. She clearly knows what she is doing and has my respect. If you are ready to do something different and open your mind, take this professor, you won't regret it.
I feel like I killed a small forest, we had so many papers due. Every week a research paper. Class is like 5 minutes long usually lol so seriously don't be late. Don't buy the book, just take pictures of it from the library cuz we never took it to class really. Honestly, I only looked at it once for reference. If you can't write well, don't take it
This class was super confusing ! Dont take this class if you dont have to. I personally didnt enjoy this class at all.
Here's week five and I still have no idea what this professor expects for her assignments, not only does she use a weird layout for her instructions but they are super confusing like trying to build a furniture piece with foreign language instructions. I know I will fail but it is o late to drop so I will have to just let it be. DO NOT TAKE THIS!
Honestly, this was such a great class. She has a very specific outline for each weekly assignment so if you follow that you'll get all the points. Every time you finish a section there's a "Portfolio" where u can make up the points u got off from previous assignments and also an essay. The class was very easy. No tests or quizzes. Take it online!
SUCH AN EASY CLASS!!! Her weekly assignments were just based off the outline she provided. The people who said her class is hard were probably just lazy and didn't even try to follow her instructions. It's a very simple class. Read the chapter and look at the outline provided to complete the assignments. I took it online and got 100% in the class.
