Loved the class while she was teaching it. Not so much with Dr. Wulff, but he's also good.
Very good and very nice lady.
Really liked Dr. Mayerhofer. A lot of kids panic when they get their exams back, cause the score is like a 50. But they just don't understand the grading system, which is really easy.
Better than Wulff in terms of lectures and stuff but the test was very similar to Wulff's. Was WAY too much material for the time she taught the class.
It was the most wonderful Professor I have ever had at SUNY. If she taught other classes I would take them. She was always willing to help in her office hours and if someone didn't understand the topic she would go over it again. She was very warm, understanding teacher and her lectures were very interesting and fun :) ..
She was the kindest women i have ever met. She really knew what she was talking about and really helped someone understand the material if they were having a tough time. Her tests are fair, and her lectures are always interesting. She laughs at everything. Great professor.
Wonderful professor. I really enjoyed her class and how she teaches. She's very sweet and helpful.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Mayerhoffer! She's so kind and very quick to help. Her material was difficult but she made it easy to understand. I would definitely recommend her.
I had her for Microbiology. She makes the material much easier to understand and, since I was taking 6 science classes, paying attention during her lectures allows you to spend less time studying outside of class. Her powerpoints are very detailed and paying attention in lecture just reinforces it all. Highly recommend her. Always willing to help.
I absolutely loved her! wish she was still teaching at Strose!her lectures can be boring but she tries to make them fun, she is super bubbly and very nice. She is willing to help her students and she tries to make class fun. Very easy to get in contact with, test can be hard just make sure you read! I enjoyed her class a lot.
Not a bad professor, the class wasn't too hard. Study the notes and textbook and you can do good on tests. There's HW assignments online that are impossible to figure out on your own, but can boost your grade a lot. Clicker points in class so it's important to go, but she does but slides and helpful outlines and study questions online.
Linda is a sweet professor, I just hate bio, and she talks too fast. tests are super hard and your attendance is in the clicker question
Linda's a sweet person, and she is definitely willing to help you if you see her outside of classr but ABIO 121 is so fast-paced and involves such an overwhelming amount of information that it's extremely easy to fall behind - you can almost never fully catch up. Overall, just stay on top of your reading and PAY ATTENTION during lectures.
The bottom line is that if you don't study for an hour for each hour of class time, you will certainly fail. She does her best to make lectures fun and interesting, but the material is just dreadful. This is weeder biology, not for the faint of heart. The tests are very difficult and make up 80% of the grade. You have to really work hard for an A.
Dr. Mayerhofer is an amazing professor. The tests are hard and there's a lot of info, but there's usually always a curve. She really wants her students to succeed and there's a lot of opportunities to get extra points back. It's very possible to get an A, you just have to work for it.
Not able to understand concepts of Biology because the way she teaches it. Went to class only for Iclicker points. Laughs on her own silly jokes. Exams have a huge curve. Some questions on exam makes no sense. Read Lecture outlines, slides and some topics from textbook. Large amount of information in short period of time. Not an easy A.
Dr. Mayerhofer is a phenomenal professor! She's so caring and loves her students. Don't be afraid to ask her questions because she loves talking to her students! She is also great at teaching the material. She would go over anything during her office hours. The material is hard but you need to put the time and effort if you want to do well.
She's really nice, gives great advices, always available to help you do better. But her tests are really hard. No quizzes.
Mayerhofer was a good professor. She really does care about every student she has whether it seems like it or not. She is willing to help you at any time. Class attendance is mandatory, but you get extra credit for going. Lecture slides are uploaded to Blackboard. Tests are extremely difficult, start studying weeks before them.
The professor is very nice and passionate about what she teaches. There can be a lot of homework which can some times be an easy grade and other times can be challenging. Sometimes what is on the homework is not taught until the date the homework is due or days after. The test are very difficult. Has clicker questions every class.
Professor is a really good at what she does, and she especially is really passionate about biology, proteins and especially llamas. Her exams are pretty hard because there is so much information to understand and after all it is biology... Has clicker questions every lecture so attendance should be expected. She does have a grading curve though!
Class was really difficult not because of the teacher but mainly there is just too much information to cover. Overall she really understanding and extremely helpful. Go to class you get clicker points ( doesn't matter if you answer wrong), Master Bio HW really helps do it ( answers are online just search), do the practice exams!!!!
She goes off topic in her lectures sometimes. She talks about llamas since it's her favorite animal. Her office is usually busy w/ a line outside but she can organize personal appointments. She provides a lot of resources to help understand the material (videos, articles and lecture outlines). She does go fast but don't be afraid to ask questions.
insane amount of material to study for, but hw online was a breeze and she curves sooo much. I got around a 60 for every exam and still got an A because of the curves! exams were 40 questions each with an 80 question cumulative final.
Her curves are amazing but she does not explain the information. You have the read the textbook and do outside studying in order to understand what is being taught in class.
Worst professor that I've ever had for Biology, did not explains slides thoroughly. Iclicker questions and exam questions do not match each other in difficulty. You have to go to class to get iclicker points, and do the homework to help boost your grade. Only 3 exams including the final, you're set up to fail, avoid her if possible.
Dr. Mayerhofer's nutrition class was NOT EASY. She throws SO MUCH information at you at once. If you are a student who likes organized powerpoints and clear concepts that flow together, Dr. Mayerhofer is not the professor for you. However, she is VERY sweet and is open to answering questions.
Linda's class is pretty straight forward. You'll need an iclicker to receive attendance points, her lectures are straight off her powerpoints that she uploads to Blackboard. It's a 200+ student class so sit in the front to avoid others' conversations. Four exams were given in her Nutrition class, all of which were curved but still requires studying
She has an attitude that makes learning fun.
such a genuinely nice professor. biology honestly is ALWAYS going to be a lot of information no matter where you take it. to reduce the stress of volume of info in class, just read ahead in the textbook. super available and helpful in office hours. Just put in your work outside class and you should do great.
She's the cutest professor I ever had. She loves llamas and that's adorable. She's really helpful but you need to put in effort to get good grades. Biology doesn't come to you unless you work hard and she's always willing to help you improve your grade. She goes off topic sometimes but she's able to cover all the materials we need to finish.
Well to say the least if you want to learn, go the other way. She puts up a slide for like one minute, speed reads it, and then moves on without any explanation. She is a very sweet lady though and I really appreciate her humor!
Professor Mayerhofer is all over the place. She is a very sweet lady however her slides are paragraphs with way to much information and she doesn't go over most of the slide. Reading the textbook is helpful to a certain extend. She speaks very fast and goes off topic often. If you like straight forward professors do not take her class
Dr. Mayerhofer is a very caring and sweet professor. She tries really hard to help students learn the material which by nature can be tough. Grading - her grading criteria is clear (4 tests, 12 homeworks, and some participation). She curves at least 10% on her exams and drops the lowest. It is very possible to get an A if one studies consistently.
Her exams are nothing like what she teaches in class. I understand needing to make sure students understand the information but her exams are ridiculous. Even someone who knows the subject could get tripped up with her bad wording. Luckily she curves the exams. She has to or else everyone would fail and that wouldn't look good.
She puts up lecture slides for a minute (which is crammed with WAY too much information/definitions), speed reads it, and then moves on without any explanation. Her tests are confusing, but if you study the lecture slides/textbook enough you should be fine. She isnt the best professor, but she is very sweet and has a good sense of humor.
She is very fast when she teaches and the information is very specific. If you don't go toccatas you will fail and attendance with a clicker is mandatory. Her tests are extremely hard, you have to put in time to study. If you do her study questions and know the information you will do well lon exams
Really sweet professor, really wants you to pass. The tests are simpler than you think, the textbook isn't much help. Clickers everyday. Blessed curves. If you go to class and study outside it's an easy A.
Gen Bio 1 isn't an easy class, but she does her best to make it as easy as she possibly can. Tests are curved, homework is online, and she drops the two lowest homeworks and the lowest test grade. Tests are mostly concepts applied to situations rather than straight definitions.
Listen fam it's your own fault if you don't do well. Not only is Linda's office hours open twice a week, there's a tutoring group on campus taught by legit employees open five days a week. If you don't try to learn and study you won't do as well as you like. Also, textbook needed to buy. Online code with the book, that's how you do weekly hw
Professor Mayerhoffer was an amazing professor. She is a sweet and caring person. She drops your lowest test grade and two lowest homework grades. She uses clickers so attendance is mandatory to get credit. Overall a good class.
It is nearly impossible to receive a grade lower than a B-, if you do you didn't try hard enough. She curves each of her exams, the overall course grade and with the hw+participation it's not hard to pass her class. Her exams questions are tough but tbh it's a bio class. She's very bubbly and always willing to help out in office hours.
She's very sweet and great at teaching bio. Her lectures can get boring at times but she does her best to make a gen bio class fun and engaging. It is really easy to do well in class because tests are heavily curved and homework is really easy. Read the textbook if you don't attend/pay attention to lecture and you'll ace the class.
Linda has a sweet heart and a cute sense of humor she's bad. She posts her lecture slides which is helpful and she does drop the lowest test grade home work assignments. She reads the slides and hopes everyone just catches up. I would not take again but it is not impossible to pass. Just go to class and look up the answers for the homework
She is the sweetest and loves bio! If you can't pass this class then change your major because it only gets harder from here. Tests are easy and she curves each 1. Missed iclicker points can be made up at the end of the semester. Online HW due every Friday. Her tests always have typos on them. Im taking nutrition with her next semester.
Mayerhofer knows her stuff. She has a passion for teaching and wants the best for her students. will try to help you pass in any way. Go to the lectures, and takes notes on what she says, those notes are worth more than the reading. show up, participation is graded by a clicker. 3 tests and a final. do the homework and if you're struggling reach out
Nutrition is taught at a middle school level. If you have taken any science classes in the last few years, take this only if you need an easy elective/GenEd on your schedule. Attendance is only necessary for clicker questions (about 5-7 each day). Prof. Mayerhofer is enthusiastic, but be prepared for a huge (400 students) class of loud freshmen.
There is so much you need to know for this course it is overwhelming. The material itself is not too hard but the quantity you need to know for these exams is crazy. She curves the grades a bit so that was a plus. Shes also obsessed w llamas.
She was amazing! Her lectures were easy to follow and as long as you read the textbook the homework was easy ( answers could also be found online). Her test were easy and directly from the lecture. She curves the heck out of the grades at the end of the semester and gives a bunch of extra credit,
Shes really sweet but lectures are so boring! Study the slides she posts online for the 4 tests (she drops 1). She gives lots of study tools. The weekly HW answers are usually on someones quizlet on google (she drops 2). Clicker questions are worth 1.5 points each class. Never touched the textbook.
Linda is such a sweetheart. She's always willing to help anyone in need. Her nutrition class is super easy to pass.
So I had Linda back in St. Rose. She was great there, but I was surprised to see her when I went to Suny Albany. But she made a huge difference. I had her for Bio II and Immunology, in both classes she taught wonderfully and graded fairly. Biology is my favorite subject so I like the professor to share my enthusiasm when teaching, and she does.
I love this woman and her sketchers. She always gets off topic so you're most likely gonna have to do your own reading from the textbook. She strongly encourages IBASS, which has helped me. She provides her classes with the lecture slides, review videos, review questions and old exam questions USE THEM.
if you dont go to class you wont pass linda is very kind and helpful going to her office hours really helps, she always curves grades, a textbook is required but i spent the whole semester without touching one if you need it a lot of places on campus let you borrow it, she tries to make the lectures funny with science jokes and she loves llamas luv
She is a very kind woman who makes her lectures as interesting as she can. The syllabus is not strict, it is very flexible depending on the pace of the class.
There are so many great things I can say about Linda and this class as a whole. Attendance is taken by iClicker, so attendance is mandatory but she does give makeup attendance points at the end of the semester. The tests can be difficult but there are curves. She is very helpful at office hours and always answers emails. Review slides before exams.
She's very nice, but you need to studying urself in order to get a good grade, focus on lecture slides, EASY A!!
Attendance is mandatory because she grades participation based on clicker questions. Sometimes she talks and talks but doesn't say anything at all. You have to read the textbook to pass tests are 70% of your grade. She loves llamas
Linda, Linda, Linda. She takes attendance through clicker questions, but allows 10 makeups. 4 tests, no quizzes, about one homework once a week. Loves talking about llamas and making jokes in class, but she covers a lot of material in one session. She drops 1 homework and 1 test. Very easy if you study and take notes (even though I dont do either).
Attendance is taken every day with an iclicker so you have to go to class so get your participation points. The lectures are pretty easy and she ends class early a lot. If you want to pass her class just show up and study using quizlet and the lecture slides. The book was useless and it costs over two hundred dollars so yeah.
How to pass her class: 1) Look up the homework answers on quizlet (Trust me, they're ALL on quizlet. Except the Current Event ones) 2) Bring your laptop and just write down notes 3) If an iClicker question pops up, just click 4) To study for exams: Study the slides & previous exams 5) If you have an A by the final, you'll be exempt from it
Goofy lady. She uses iclickers for attendance and participation that count toward your grade. She posts all her slides online, all the homework is online and you can easily look it up but the tests are hard you need study study a lot in order to pass and they are the majority of your grade. Only take if needed. Way too much work for gened
If you do not study or go to extra help you most likely will not pass the class. She is very sweet and LOVES llamas
Difficult class and way too much work. Homework answers are on quizlet. Textbook gotten only to get access code. Teacher doesn't teach enough and then speeds through chapters so lots of bad time management. Exams are hard. Class will make you think you are failing and then at the end somehow curve everything. Class is all unnecessary stress
Basically all you have to do is pay attention in class and be familiar with the material. She does give a lot of extra credit and if you take the few seconds to do them you can change your grade by a whole letter.
Linda is awesome! she goes through the lectures quite slowly but it makes it easier to understand. I printed out the slides and took notes based on what she was saying and it was the best method. She doesn't tell you to read the textbook often but it definitely helped. Homework due every Friday but all the questions are online.
Made bio enjoyable, her slides are very simple to understand and she goes at a fair pace. There are four tests and a final (no cumulative) and one gets dropped. Plenty of extra credit from participation and homework. Go to class because the clicker is used everyday and thats how you get your points!
If you don't read, or show up to class it will be very hard for you to pass. Sit and listen to her lectures don't bother taking notes on the slides, she gives you those on blackboard. TAKE NOTES ON WHAT SHE IS SAYING. Overall a great professor and super kind and genuine.
Really good professor but im not a bio major I was not really interested in the topic, but she really tired to make it as interesting as she could. Post all of her lectures online along with study guides for all test. Clicker questions are for participation, but she has makeups if you dont go. Also all of the hw questions are on quizlet or chegg
She's a real gem, but immunology is hard, period. She was throwing bonus points at us by the end of the semester and I still came up short for the A. Clicker questions for weekly quizzes and daily attendance make up a big part of your grade. Study guides for the test are kinda helpful, and weekly homework worksheets hammer home lecture material.
Good Prof. Overall. I'd class it something similar to the Anatomy and physiology I/II in term of rigor which to exception of heavy curve thrown at the end. The concepts are easy to understand but the multiple choice questions can be super tricky. I scored and A but most likely got a B- or B w/o the curve. Good lecture energy. Don't be lazy in it
Teaches way too many students by reading slides off the board. Teach yourself kind of class.
Professor Mayerhofer seems like a great person. I am just not a fan of how she teaches as well she gets so far behind for no reason. HWs sometimes have material that hasn't been discussed yet due to her being behind most of the time. In my personal opinion she shouldn't be teaching a large lecture like abio130. Overall average.
Good professor, very clear on what you can do to pass the class. Tests are incredibly hard, however, there are a ton of assignments that allow you to do well in the class.
Go to class. Units go by so fast. Participation points are earned every day. The textbook is a waste of time, as long as you pay attention in class you'll be fine. As for studying, LOOK AT THE STUDY SHEETS SHE PROVIDES!!! The tests are almost identical to those. She gives many opportunities for you to make up points so pay attention to those!!!
Take notes before, she goes fast & tests include many things that she says during lecture but aren't included in the slides. Many opportunities for points, just do all of the assignments & go to class daily & you can get an A w/o good tests. Many opportunities for bonus and extra credit. Never got higher than an 80 on an exam & still got an A
Linda Mayerhofer is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She made me glad to be a biology major!
She gives 4 points every time the class meets with clicker questions. its a heavy workload. Lots of studying Her tests, quizzes, AND homework are difficult. make up participation points act as extra credit so those help your grade as well. If you study and show up to class, you'll get a good grade.
Mayerhofer is an extremely nice woman. For such a large lecture, she handles it well. She has curved all the tests by 5-15 points, though it is usually because she makes so many errors on the exams. You can get an A in the class, even if you completely fail an exam. Just show up, do iClicker, and do all of the homework and quizzes.
Great professor and makes the class work for every student. Perfectly set up class with all resources available. If you fail you probably did nothing to pass, she gives extra credit, allows you miss some hw, quizzes and tests. Makes the classes fun and interesting. I'm not a bio major and I found myself interested in the topics. Highly recommend
Mayerhofer is hands down the best professor I've had in my first semester of college. Biology is not an easy class, but she gives you opportunities to get extra credit and usually adds 10 extra points to your test. You definitely have to read the textbook carefully and listen to her lectures attentively. Drops lowest HW, quiz, and test scores 10/10
Mayerhofer is an excellent professor and is passionate about her job. Even as this course is an intro level it is very test heavy and you have to read and do the homework in order to do well in the class.
Lectures drone on. You have to be there majority of the time for iclicker points. She was a decent professor in all aspects except when it came to the homework, she never kept on schedule with her lectures but would continue to expect the homework on the original due dates anyway. It got to a point where I was teaching myself the material to pass.
lots of homework and quizzes to help your grade. adds points to every test when you think you did bad. lots of extra credit. easy to do well especially if science isn't your best subject. very nice and passionate about science as well
Mayerhofer is extremely kind and caring about her students. The tests are hard if you don't study, so just review the slides for each chapter and STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS. Those make the exam way easier. If you fail the course you genuinely must have tried to fail because it's not hard to pass at all.
She's a great professor who loves biology and loves teaching it to people. She makes lectures fun by doing lots of movements or dances to show how things were working in the body. Never read and I passed but read if your having trouble. She does homework, quizzes and tests. She also provides a helpful grading calculator so you know you're grade!
She's a super nice teacher, but she does treat us like we're children and her class is hard. Especially for students who aren't science majors, it's hard to understand the criteria. Participation is easy, tests are very long, difficult, very detailed, all her own questions. The homework isn't too bad but it is her own questions as well.
Linda Mayerhofer was one of the best teachers ive ever had. She broke down the coursework so everyone completely understood. She was very generous with extra credit and on the exams. I actually learned in her class compared to other teachers that rather you complete the work than actually learn it.
Professor Mayerhofer was one of the most caring professors I had. Shes's the sweetest. She genuinely wants you to do well in her class. Her exams are a little difficult, but she does drop your lowest grade and exams will be on what she discussed in lectures. So, if you study you should be okay.
Dr. Mayerhofer is really nice and approachable. Grades are based on HW, quizzes, exams, and participation. Even for non-Bio majors, she makes the material understandable enough for me. She also gives extra credit surveys to help boost your grade.
I took a 2nd class with Mayerhofer and she was amazing as usual! Immunology is much more difficult and the content is far more complex. But Mayferhofer explains the material as thoroughly as possible and is super sweet and caring, will do her best to help you. Very accommodating when classes were moved online!
Easiest A I have ever gotten. The tests a very easy, she gives a lot of extra credit. reading over the slides is enough to pass. Participation matters because she uses clickers so if you arent in class points will get deducted. Not graded by few things and lots of curves are given
The most easy and fair classes I have taken this semester. Theres no final or midterm just a quiz every 2 weeks but its not hard if you watch the lectures and read the textbooks. There are also peer tutors for this course that a lot of people said helped. Only one project for the end of the semester. Shes caring and very understanding
Linda's obviously passionate about biology and super caring. If you took AP Bio in high school it's an easy A. If not, it's still easy-going, just go to lectures. The modules are straightforward and she drops the lowest score in each category. No final exam. Overall, great course and professor. (The class was hybrid, not fully online)
She gives a lot of extra credits, honestly to keep your sanity and pass have group chats to help. The capstone at the end is optional. Do the discussions it helps your grade a lot. She takes a while to reply back to emails so wait for a 2-3 day respond time. I wouldnt take again she basically wanted you to teach yourself.
She is really nice but she cant teach
She's honestly a really good teacher. She did a fantastic job at changing up the class so that she could properly accommodate online students. This class is one of the most organized classes I took this year. There was a quiz and a few assignments that were both due every two weeks. The class is content heavy but her lectures makes it feel easy!
Professor Mayerhofer is one of the sweetest teachers iv'e ever had. You can tell she is extremely passionate about what she teaches and she provides so many extra credit opportunities and chances to do succeed in her course. 10/10 wish I could have her teach all of my classes.
I'm not a bio major & I had her online, but it was the easiest class I ever had. 7 modules - 2 case studies, 2 interactive media, 1 quiz for each module... so lots of work but everything was simple, just time-consuming. No attendance required. I went to probably the first two classes of the semester. Easy A
She's like a second Mom.
Very difficult quizzes, and she is very all over the place in lectures. Quizzes on a lot of material all at once.
Professor Mayerhofer is extremely accommodating and explains the material well. Her slides do go a bit fast but she makes sure to explain them one way or another. She genuinely cares about her students and keeps the environment fun and positive.
Test/quizzes were 5 questions in person and 20 online so no need to study just get a 90-100% on the online portion. Lowest grade dropped. HW assignments were easy and someone will always send the answers in the group-me. Only problem is I'm ending the semester with no knowledge of Biology but at least I got a 96%. Participation assignments daily.
Dr. Mayerhofer's tests are challenging. I would study for hours and even though the test is online, they are still difficult. Her lectures feel very long because she fits a lot of information into one class. Overall, she is a really nice woman and will respond to emails very fast to help you out with everything.
She is truly passionate about biology, but unless you listen carefully in class you'll be lost. She loves to do "except" questions to test our knowledge on the material. It's easy to get a good grade but if you really want to learn you must pay attention and ask questions. Take advantage of Ibass (tutoring center) as they help clarifying the info.
Dr. Mayerhofer cares about what she's teaching and is very explanatory in class. She's super sweet too! You're given several weeks to complete the hw for each module and the online part of the test is open note. If you don't attend class and use your clicker, there are makeup assignments you can do, and you have multiple attempts for the hw/test.
Ive missed many lectures due to health issues and Professor Mayerhofer is very responsive to emails. You can tell she cares for her students and provides a welcoming, informative lecture.
I had to take retake this class when I transferred and let me say THIS IS EASY. My last professor made this stuff seem like a battlefield, whereas Linda makes it feel like a bakery. Do the HW (which is a lot of the grade) and put forth 50% of your effort. An easy A if you know how to read, and she also just gives extra credit for some reason.
She's literally the most amazing professor ever, I love her so much. Highly recommend taking classes with her - she really cares about all of her students and just wants them all to do well. She also teaches the material in a way that makes sense and offers many other resources for help with bio or just life in general.
I took this class as an elective and got an A. I did not open the textbook once the entire semester. You have to show up to her lectures every week bc she does like 5 clicker questions every class, which she uses for attendance. All of the exams were online and you are given over an hour to complete it, so it's pretty easy to cheat.
If you do not attend class, you will be lost and will not understand what she is saying. She reads of slides at times, and does not really explain! Participating with clickers could boost your grade pretty high!
Mayerhofer is super nice, she provides all of the lecture slides so you don't really need to go to class. There are quizzes every few weeks but she gives two chances to take them (Online) and counts whichever score is the highest. If you attend lectures, you will realize that she teaches as students copy notes which can make it hard to interpret
She was sweet and you could tell she loved what she was teaching. One of my biggest lectures so it was sometimes hard to get ahold of her. We had "clicker quizzes" which were easy if you pay attention but you need to buy a clicker remote which was kind of annoying. The class was so big you could definitely get away with missing a few classes
The course textbook is a free pdf available, although it is unnecessary to open it. The class uses clickers for participation and short quizzes. The tests are 2 parts, the 1st being the clicker and the 2nd an at-home online quiz. The class is tough to fail and is made to be easy on grading with multiple attempts on every assignment/test.
Literally one of my favorite professors. Genuinely cares about all of her students and will do anything she can to help you. The material is really challenging, but no exams. Only homework and quizzes with 3 tries each, and participation points using clickers in class. Highly recommend taking any of her classes
She is SO sweet. The lectures weren't the most interesting, but that is mainly just because of the kind of material. Her grading system is extremely fair. Makeups for participation, multiple tries on quizzes, multiple tries on homework. Take this class! Just do the work and you've earned your A.
Such a sweet professor. Lectures are long and can be boring but it's just the topic being taught, as the material isn't hard. There's clicker questions for participation points that you don't have to get correct. The homework and quizzes are fairly easy and she drops your two lowest grades for each assignment category. Strongly recommend.
One of the most easiest classes you will ever take!!! The professor is also very kind and easy to talk to.
Professor Mayerhofer always has a positive attitude. I would recommend taking ABIO 117 for an easy gen ed. The whole class was entirely virtual, so there was no pressure when taking quizzes or doing the homeworks. I wouldn't mind having Professor Mayerhofer again in the future.
It is difficult to not do well in this class. Her grading system is very lenient and all assignments are standalone, not based on the lecture. She drops lowest grades, offers a bonus quiz if you did not do well, and all assignments/quizzes have multiple attempts. She uses a clicker but there are also graded options to make up for missed attendance.
shes a bit boring, but it might just be the material tbh. shes so sweet and is very good with late grades and makeup work.
Very easygoing. A decent amount of work but its more tedious than difficult. Not hard to well in this course.
She is a super nice lady, and she always give out extra credits and accepts late assignments. Her hws are super easy too, she has many quizzes as well, these quizzes could a bit difficult if you don't really read her reading materials.
Homework is kind of annoying and tests are hard, but overall its not hard to do well in class as long as you review the slides and look over the textbook a little
Awesome. She is so caring and understands our problems
Mayerhoffer is fun for bio, not boring in the lectures, easy assignments, not overly hard testing and you wont have to work too hard outside of class
Her assignments are pretty straightforward. It feels like busy work because they don't relate to the class material at all but still an easy way to boost your grade. You need to do a lot of studying for her tests because the questions are very specific, it caught me so off guard. There are opportunities for extra credit. Very sweet lady.
Her blackboard is super disorganized; shes also always behind on chapters. Her work is fairly easy, but have nothing to do with the exams because you get to the exam and now youre confused asf and failing. I rate the class an overall 6/10 cause lectures are boring and no one ever pays attention. Tests are a -10/10. l
The tests are specific, the homework is related to the tests (at least generally), the homework is easy (you get three tries), the Professor tries to make her lectures as engaging as possible, and the Professor is approachable and willing to help.
Good professor and passionate about teaching. You have to put in time outside of class to do well on her tests. Even if you don't do well on her tests, the homework assignments she posts can help your grade. Going to class gets you participation points which also go towards your grade. Would definitely take her class again.
Overall, ABIO 130 with Professor Linda was a very interesting class, as I learned a lot of new material. However, the class is lecture and test heavy, and participation is a HUGE part of the grade. Be prepared to bring IClicker remotes every class. One complaint is her test grading policy, in which each question is worth TEN points.
Her class is fairly easy to do well in. It's cumulative points up to 1000 points and she offers extra credit. She gives a grade calculator so you can know how you are doing. You get 3 attempts on all homework so it is pretty easy to do well on those. Tests are heavy in material but she gave a curve to us every test. You can't miss class except once
I really did enjoy this professor, she was sweet and always helped us. You get three homework attempts and attendance points even if you get the clicker questions wrong. The only genuine hard part is the tests, but she gives a nice curve to them that should do you good if you put in the effort. Biology is hard, but she helps make it just a bit easy
She's one of few that teach this course and gets a lot of hate, but it is a hard topic/weed-out class and she does have to teach 400+ students at once. She is VERY generous with test curves, is understanding/ allows making up participation credit, all assignments have 2 weeks to complete and are not that hard. overall good! just a LOT of content
Super sweet lady. Always willing to go over exams during office hours. Incredibly easy and straightforward class. Do the work and study for exams and enjoy that sweet, sweet 4.0.
She pretty much has the whole book on her slides. Hard to study for exams.
Professor Mayerhofer is a great professor! HOWEVER, she has changed this classes criteria since the last review. There are now 3 EXTREMELY TOUGH tests counting towards a large portion of your grade. BEWARE!
Prof Mayerhofer's lectures are extremely long, she will use the entire time almost every time. The tests are NOT straightforward and are very difficult. The textbook is free but she tells you not to pay super close attention to it. She uses a clicker for attendance, so you have to buy one (ebay is the best place to buy it)
I took Linda before and enjoyed her at the intro level, but this class was a beast. Lectures were so jam packed with information only for the test to have 4 or 5 questions per chapter. The tests are what made this class so hard. There was a big curve since everyone did so poor, but still there is way to much to learn. I would find a different class
Passionate about nutrition. About 1 assignment a week, if any. Attendance not mandatory however she does clicker questions as sort of an attendance
I am taking her nutrition class and it isn't that difficult. The homework assignments are light however the tests are pretty hard. She does give you a study guide which is nice but I noticed a lot of what is on the study guide isn't even on the test. She is really nice and understanding and her lectures don't put me to sleep.
Kind and caring professor. You will use clickers a lot for participation and quizzes. If you do not enjoy biology this class will be a chore.
This elective is super easy, assignments arent too difficult and you get a lot of time to do them. participation is counted through clickers but you also have chances to make it up through online assignments which is super nice. Tests can be dense but we get study guides and a lot of time to prepare, everything we need is posted on blackboard.
Very easy class, and obviously cares about her students
Dr. Mayerhofer is very brilliant, but sometimes struggles to realize we are all not as smart as her so lectures can be hard to follow. She allowed us to bring in a pass sheet for exams which SAVED my grade. Very sweet and willing to help. Go to class to get those participation points!!! They add up!
Sweetest professor ever. Cares so much about her students. You can bring in a pass sheet to every test, and sooo many extra credit opportunities! Best prof ever!
Dr. M was great this semester, she is such a passionate and caring professor and always keeps her students first. Grade is mostly 3 exams worth 200 each out of 1000 total points. Lots of opportunities for extra credit, she does track participation through iClicker but the textbook is free online. Know the notes and make sure to use a Pass sheet.
Dr. Mayerhofer has a bio major questioning her bio major. Homework assignments are easy, tests are killer. She lets you bring a note sheet to the exam, but the questions are obscure, so the sheet is no help. I sat in the front, took notes, and attended almost all lectures. Lots of extra credit though. Bad at answering emails. TA is great!
Linda was great this year. It's apparent that she cares about her students and thats very important. It's essential to note though that tests are a huge part in your overall grade so make sure you look at your notes daily and take time to review. Also take advantage of the numerous extra credit opputunities she gives to help boost your grade.
Dr. Mayerhofer is good but every thing is explained through slides and no videos are shown in class, she also finishes some chapters 1-2 days before the test leaving less time to learn. Her tests are very specific, pass sheet is allowed + bonus points are added. Lot of extra credit. No cumulative tests. Harder for people with less biology exposure.
lecture is very easy, can get boring but when it comes to exams she lets you have a pass notes sheet that you can wrote on and bring the day of the exam and provides you with exam questions on the chapter that actually helps, also adds 30 points to every exam
very patient and open to answering questions
Very sweet and passionate professor! She teaches thru slides and there is a homework assignment every 1-2 weeks and there are 3 exams worth 200 points (20% of your grade each).
considering i got a 65% on two test and each test is 20% of your grade, as long as you do the homework assignments (that you can look up answers) and as many stupid easy extra credit assignments, you can easily get an a or a- in this class. she is a very sweet lady and although attendance is a part of your grade, it is an easy way to get points
Dr. Mayerhofer is a lovely p
Professor Mayerhofer is very very very nice. You can tell she cares about her students. She gives a HEAVY curve on her tests and provides extra credit as well. If you go to class, do the homework and extra credit you wont even need to take the final.
Lots of grades, just show up to class and write the entire unit down on the PASS sheet and you'll do fine. She's really nice and understanding as well. I didn't pay attention at all and still did really well on all 3 exams because of the PASS sheet. Recommend for sure.
Professor Mayerhofer is very kind, she wants her students to pass, and will give you many opportunities to do so. Her lectures are pretty boring, but attendance is required via iclickers, so focus more on filling out the PASS sheet on your own time, as it's the most helpful thing to have on the tests (there are 3 40-question multiple-choice tests).
I absolutely love Linda!! She is so sweet and kind and truly cares for her students. She added pass sheets which were lifesavers. The class was somewhat long, and I didn't understand everything that we learned but she truly does try and teach to the best of her abilities with Nimmy.
Professor does give PASS sheets. However, you can write the slides WORD FOR WORD and still get a bad or even failing grade without curve. There are only 3 exams and there are makeups for them, but they are harder. One question on there was what her favorite antibody is. Don't take if you can escape. Extra credit is nice but wont save you at all.
Great, kind, and generous professor. Class itself was a bit hard to stay focused because its a huge class and lectures straight from notes slides, but she throws in jokes here and there and makes it somewhat interactive. Also certain days we have the last 30 minutes to have a fun discussion with friends around you. She gives a ton of extra credit
TONS of extra credit. Really nice professor but her lectures are so boring. Too much information for a gen ed class. She gives us iclicker answers so not too hard to get. a good grade. 50-60% exam average so just make sure to do well on other stuff. We get to write a pass (cheat sheet) for all exams.
I took this course for my bio elective. Lectures are at 9am but she takes the attendance, so you have to get ready for that. She does the make-up things if u miss the class or discussions, but no extra credit. Also, questions on the first exam cannot be found on the slides. It was really difficult as well. I would avoid this class at all cost.
This class is an absolute mess. 3 classes have been canceled now total, but the schedule for exams hasn't budged. Nothing on the lecture slides are on the exam, so you have to memorize the textbook and guess what might be on the exam since the questions are very specific. Oh and she doesn't respond to any of my emails. None.
Honestly, Prof. Mayerhofer is a professor that is quite lenient tbh. On exams she skews the grades and that is a big reason why many people in her class pass. She cares about what shes talking about and attendance matters cause it is apart of your grade. She also has diet worksheets and it is not that hard. Her class is okay, sometimes boring tho
Great for gen bio but if you are considering taking immunology.... This entire semester, I studied at least 10 hours a week and worked like crazy to do well on the tests and had an A. Well the final exam came and she put material on it that were not in the slides and combined multiple concepts into 1 question. There was no way to prepare.
Great for gen bio but do not take her immunology course. I got an A on every bio class except for her's and Im probably gonna fail her class.
ABIO117 is excessively lengthy and heavy for an elective. There is a significant amount of homework and assignments, and it feels like thIS professor assumes we only have her class.
Professor Mayerhofer is not a horrible professor but she is very obnoxious. Instructions are fairly clear though at times her organization can be difficult to navigate. Most times I was able to get ahold of her she brushed me off and directed me to her TA which felt very rude and unprofessional especially when the TA would direct me to her.
cutie
Nice lady, but not a great teacher. Her PowerPoint were crammed with information that half the time she did not even cover. She would often lose her train of thought as well. Her tests, we often felt did not cover what was covered in class, or just totally came out of left field.
Professor Mayerhofer is super kind and wants students to succeed. Lectures can be dry, but the PASS sheets and Unstuckstudy are lifesavers for acing the exams. Easy A if you put in the work.
I found the amount of busywork to be ridiculous.
She was really good however she can be a little strange at times. I took her Bio 130 class and would say take advantage of her extra credit she offers a lot of it. She uses Iclicker to do her attendance.
Class was not mandatory because there were makeup assignments but I recommend attending lectures. Exams were online and open notes but some of them were really complicated and difficult. There were homework assignments and other assignments. Overall a pretty good class and professor.
Professor Mayerhofer was an amazing teacher. She was a nice teacher and all her assignments were take home assignments. they were all online based and you technically don't really have to go to class. You just have to sign in and do your clicker questions for participation. I would definitely take her class again.
Professor Mayerhofer is amazing. If you do all the work and put forth the effort you should be fine. The textbook is free and optional it is mostly used to enhance your understanding and you need an iclicker subscription to get participation points.
This was a class, where if you showed up, paid attention and did the work: you will pass. The class is designed where it is hard to fail even if Biology is not a strong suit. While everything is virtual, lecture is there for a reason. You should still attend (very concise and engaging) if you want a good score and gain understanding.
Super helpful, very interesting. Only a little hard to reach outside of class, but once you figure out how it's easy. Very kind as well!
Class is super easy since everything is online. Content-wise, I didn't learn/internalize much of the info but that's probably my fault. Lectures can be a lot sometimes but you can tell she loves what she does and teaches. There is a textbook but not required to use it. LOTS of Extra Credit. Stay on top of things and you will be fine.
Professor Mayerhofer is an amazing professor, she gave students many opportunities for extra credit, it was a bit hard to pay attention to lectures honestly, but she did try her best to make lectures interesting.
You could tell that she's a kind person and that she tries but her slides were horrible and either had way too much information or misses key information that she expects us to know for the exams. Her exams were horrible but the good thing is she provides plenty of extra credit opportunities as well as other things that make up for exam grades.
GREAT CLASS
Mayerhofer is a really good prof and clearly passionate in what she teaches, classes can be boring sometimes, but I would reccomend this course and her as a prof!
She's decent - nice but not interesting. Her grading system differs from most, which can make getting an A harder. She assigns lots of work and offers points through online attendance polls, quizzes, and exams. Stay on top of your grades, attend class, and engage with the material often enough to do well on those assignments and you'll be fine.
I can't overstate how much I enjoyed this teacher. I had taken the class twice before with other professors and couldn't pass so I withdrew and thought I was just a bad student. She created a safe and welcoming environment that helped my blossom into a 4.0 student. I wish more at UAlbany were like her but she's a diamond in the rough.
She's the nicest professor you'll ever have, but the lectures don't always match up with quizzes. Luckily exams are all open-note.
sweetest, happiest lady ever. impossible to fail her class
so sweet and funny she tries so hard and is amazing you can really tell she cares
Additionally to teaching the basics of biology, Professor Mayerhofer also includes units throughout the semester about time management. This is particularly helpful for any college student, but also for life after school, as time management is a quality employer look for in college graduates.
Professor Linda is a great biology teacher who truly supports her students. She explains lessons clearly, connects them to real-world careers, and helps students build skills they can use professionally. She's patient, organized, and always willing to help, making the class both supportive and career-focused.
she's so sweet and genuinely does look out for her students. her lectures are a little boring but easy to understand. her quizzes and surveys are super easy to complete too, easy grades. no midterm or final either and she's really understanding. sometimes she will randomly grade the iclicker questions though so beware. overall, she's pretty chill.
She is passionate, but man the lectures are a drag. No wonder no one pays attention. I really don't like the structure of immediate quizzing ever lecture. I would much rather have traditional class exams. Because of this cheating is rampant and there is no curve. To get an A you need 95+. I feel this is ridiculous as this just encourages cheating.
she's one of my favorite professors i've had. she genuinely is passionate about her teaching and cares if you get a good grade. her lectures are a bit of a drag. she only gives quizzes, no tests, and occasional extra credit opportunities. she's flexible if you work with her and let her know things in advance. overall, i really liked her
Professor Mayerhofer clearly knows what she's talking about, she loves Bio as a whole and is always very interested in everything she teaches. the class is not hard at all. If you show up, you get an automatic 60% for the class, and the weekly quizzes are Googleable. If you have to take bio, take it with her!
The class is huge but she is really nice and understanding. She reduces four quizzes so if you do bad on a quiz too, she will cut off that grade. participation matters but you're allowed to miss up to four days and still get in 100% attendance.
Professor Mayerhofer is an amazing professor. She truly enjoys teaching bio, which you can tell through her lectures. She is always happy to help with concepts or answer random questions. I'm so sad that I won't have her next semester.
A very easy class. the only work to be done is one weekly online quiz. in a way I wish she made the class harder because I didn't feel the need to prioritize this class since there was only one quiz each week. lectures are kinda boring, and iclicker is required for participation. she's a very very nice lady passionate about what she teaches.
