She doesn't explain well, and she gives hard exams. She gives a lot of handouts and assignments. But she is a faithful teacher, and she expects you to work extra hard in her class. Good luck if you take her!
She makes you work, but you learn a lot. Her students do well in future classes.
Linda Nuss is not supportive. If you are experiencing difficulty, espeically in labs, do not ask her for help more than once. By doing so, you are opening youself up to critcism. She is short fused and intollerant. Beware!
Openly excited about what she teaches, which always helps in a teacher. Not an amazingly polished lecturer, but she is fairly new and gets the point across well.Overall, a good very teacher if you are a hands-on learner (she gives weekly/daily homework).
Linda Nuss is actually a wonderful teacher. She gives you handouts each unit and walks you through each problem. Her lectures are very basic, but easy to follow. I personally felt "spoon fed" through the course.
I have four words.....DO NOT TAKE HER...... I was in her lab and she was not helpful at all. she do not like questions, she is expecting you that you read the lab and you know all the answers for all the questions.
She is a good tacher who is excited about what she is teaching. She gives lots of examples about applicatins of chemistry to everyday life. She has an open door policy - not just during office hours.
SHE'S A PAIN!!! that's all i can say about her
Easy class but she is not particularly personable or helpful. Despite the ease of her class, she is not for everyone.
She was a good teacher, but if you're not willing to do a little busy work and go to class, it's a hard class. Her lectures were really clear. There was homework and quizzes just about every week so its easy to get a bad grade by falling behind
Nuss is very clear on her lectures. However, she does give you homework (crossword puzzle & book problems) and a quiz each week. She is a nice lady (on most days), but like someone had said, she is a little short fused in lab. My lab partner had recently experienced that in lab when she asked Nuss for help.
Prof. Nuss is the most unhelpful, impatient professor ever. Never willing to hear your side of the story, hates to answer any questions in lab - even though she talks too fast, and assumes you already know everything. Expects WAY too much from an Intro. class. I would NEVER talk her class again - even if my degree depended on it.
She is excited about Chem and not afraid to show it. She is a moderately hard teacher-you need to study hard to pass! Don't slack off or you will not do well.

This was my first chem class ever. I went in interested and dropped halfway through, totally discouraged. I didn't feel like she was there to help me. Her attitude was more like, if you don't get it now, maybe this class isn't for you.
Bland class! Great job with labs- really explained everything but Chem is not that exciting!!!Should have graded on a curve- not enough b's and c's ( and I got a B!)
not easy to pass. Not intelegent enogh for a professor. does not know answers at some Q. explains material very good trying hard to do her job very helpfull
Great professor. She saved us from another horrible professor. very helpful and organized. She put her life on hold to make sure everyone passed the class. Very enthusiastic and don't listen to the other posts! she really is a great professor.
Great professor!Great demos!Made class interesting for students who had to deal with CHEM from 8am-3pm every Sat. Teaching methods are clear & organized. She takes education seriously and as long as you keep up with the homework, quizzes & lectures you should do fine. If you don't have time to study, don't blame her cuz she does present her best.
She is super organized and knows how to explain things clearly. She has a great disposition and seems to enjoy teaching. I took Chem 317 with her and it helped a lot with Chem 305.
She was AWESOME! This is a hard subject and she made as understandable as possible. There is a lot of homework and studying that needs to be done and if you make the effort she will do everything she can to make sure you understand. She SAVED our Saturday class and sacrified some important things in her family life to do it. I highly recommend her!
This is a difficult class especially if you're not willing to put in the time and effort. Our class suffered severely until Nuss took over. She explained things in a clear and concise manner and was amazingly organized. She was more than willing to explain things over until you understood. Couldn't have passed without the Chem 317 class!
Miss Nuss is a very helpful, understanding, organized, and kind person. Her class and teaching style is what everybody needs to learn this subject. She is willing to help anytime you ask her and will explain till you understand. She is very patient and class oriented teacher. you have to study a lot for this class and this is the key to success.
Had this class in the Fall. Linda is so helpful and passionate about her teaching. She cares. If you have trouble, go into her office because she can explain any concept so that a child could understand. I wish I had had her for 305 because she really prepares a person for Micro. She is a wonderful instructor and person.
Ms Nuss is a great lecturer. She is a commited professor and has great web site info. I feel very pleased tyo be in her Chem class
this teacher is awsome...she's such a great teacher ever..although the class is hard, but if you study your note for the quiz you'l be fine. but one thing you must do (be accurate on your lab)do it correctly w/ur partner DO NOT COPY SHE HATE CHEATING very much she grades hard but fairly she funny and awsome in lecture also she prepare for online th
Difficult subject & lots of work but Prof Nuss keeps scheduled office hours and is willing to help anyone who has any questions.
Prof. Nuss is very organized and easy to follow. She also encourages people to stop by her office hour to get needed help.
this teacher is friendly but was too intense. she doesn't give you an inch to spare. i dropped this class about a third of the way through because it was just too demanding, i was worried it was the class, but when i took it over the summer with another prof. i got an A. i do not recommend nuss.
I can't believe i have to take this HORRIBLE teacher again only because nothing else works with my schedule!! she can't teach she can't answer questions and i did NOT learn ANYTHING! she's too old and boring, i tried really hard to stay awake! DO NOT TAKE HER!! next sem. is going to be a nightmare for me
She's one tough cookie. Keys to her old quizzes/exams are on her website and it REALLY helps to study them. Take notes and study your notes as well. Her lab quizzes are open notebook. Know your significant figures because she takes of minor points for every single one she finds(those sig figs add up!).
Wow, she got horrible ratings for the Chem 401 series. She wasn't that bad, just study the keys to her old exams/quizzes and you'll be fine! Yes, lectures ARE boring...but stay awake and take notes. The notes will help you a lot on her exams. She also gives out review exams + the key. I only studied a day before her exams and I still got an A.
Nuss is a challenge. Study the practice exams!!! And lectures are mandatory. Especially if you're not sure of the materials. She is very helpful, but only if you let her know you need it. Her exams are fair and her lectures ARE helpful. She is also always on top of things. I would take her again.
Great chemistry teacher! I've had other chemistry teachers at this school and they were plain awful at teaching chemistry; they taught you how to solve problems without teaching the concepts behind it, but Prof. Nuss taught both, and well too. Class can be pretty challenging, but it's worth it. She's always willing to help; you just have to ask.
Prof. Nuss is very good for the average student. If all you care about is the topics of Chem 401, you can do much worse than Nuss. But if you are like me, and you want to actually learn the material, she's not great. Very clear on her labs which is nice, but holds her students hands, which gets annoying.
Professor Nuss is extremely concerned about the progress of her students and their understanding of the material presented. She material in lecture is presented in a comprehensive and clear manner. There is much emphasis on quizzes and tests, so be prepared. Her labs were a good summation of the lecture material.
A rare chemistry professor. She cares about her students and teaches chemistry very clearly. Her tests and quizzes are based on notes and textbooks. Every lab is related to class. She gives 110% every day.
BEST INSTRUCTOR IN SCC!!EASY TO GET AN A ^_^
The worse teacher ever! Her lec notes and textbook have nothing to do with the test. She tries to confuse you with the questions she asks on the test. She is never striaght forward at all and always tries to confuse you. Doing well on homework and labs wont help you in the class. I"ve always recieved A's in chemistry and she gave me my first F!
Prof. Nuss is such a good teacher! Her tests are solely based on lectures and are fairly easy. You just have to look over your notes & she even has past exams for you to study from. She is just a little picky with the lab notebooks.
To me, she is kind of clear about things, especially when you come to her and ask. You'll find out that this Chemistry class is easier than Chem 400 with less concepts to remember. Yet, there're a lot of mathematical problems and if you're a math person then you're fine. "A" is kinda easy if read the book+do mastering hw+ worksheet. No room for lazy
I really learned a lot in this class. As long as you do the online homework and all the lab write-ups you shoould be OK. Be sure to check-out the old exams and review sheets she has on her web page. They really help a lot. The text is helpfull, but the exams come mostly from her lecture notes, so try not to miss class!
Professor Nuss made a tough subject understandable. She was always willing to help any time I had a question. She is by far the best science teacher I have had!
Tetxbook is unecessary, just buy the access code. She is very clear. Don't underestimate her class. Working hard is mandatory. Buy the materials and always be prepared. She is very strict about lab. Ask lots of questions and participate in class actively. Study her previous exams. LOTS of math involved, so make sure you know how to solve problems.
Not recommanded
Good teacher. Can be annoying. Very intelligent. Lots of hw and lab work. I only studies 2-3 days before tests (4+Final) and always did well. TONS of calculations, get good calculator!
Dr Nuss is awesome. Chem is SO hard for me but she is clear, consistent and helpful. The class was very tough and she is quite strict but very fair in her grading. I learned a ton. I have never been prouder of getting a B in my whole life b/c I have struggled so much with chem. Don't expect to get much sympathy if you aren't working hard though.
Lectures: attend it if you want to do well. Labs: didn't have her, had dr. agnew heard she was tough in lab. Discussion: the tests calculation portion seems to highly relate to her discussion worksheet so do it and use this time to ask her questions! Tests: books and lecture notes! Finals: ACS test, much easier than her regular unit tests!
The class was hard... I'm a returning student after 10 yrs absence but with 5s in all my science APs... She was giving me a C but at the end let me pull up to a B by completing mandatory lengthy computer HW. She's very organized and meticulous, but not at all interested in the health professions.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to do all of the homework (online and discussion worksheets) in this class. Since the emphasis is on calculations, the more you do the better off you will be. Her test are lecture dependent, so go to class! She is quite helpful if you have questions, so go to her office hours if you need help!
Overall, she is a great instructor. Lecture is straight. Test comes from this lecture-no twist or surprise in the exam but must be quick to answer in a short time. However, if you are working, don't take this class. There are tons of HW and lab write up. If you really want to learn the chem, go ahead and take it. She is a master for this course.
She is a great professor. You will learn a lot. You have a guranteed A if you read the textbook, pay attention and take notes during lecture, do your best in lab, go to beacon, do practice exams, and do the mastering chem throughly. Sounds like a lot, but its not. I did it and got an easy A. BEST CHEM PROF ever
Very good professor, definitely knows her stuff. It's not an easy class but very manageable, no surprises on her tests and she does give practice exams and tons of worksheets which do help. Mastering chem is essential to get the proper amount of practice when doing calculations (there are a lot in this class). An A is attainable with hard work!
Nuss is super organized, after having her you will be disappointed with other teacher because they will not seem as organized. she is realistic about the amount of work she is giving (its alot for this class) and within reason allows late/or extensions sometimes for reduced points. you must have your prelab done!
She somehow managed to make Chem 401 very easy. The class was not bad at all. You do need to put in your time, but an A is very attainable.
Very passionate and helpful, she will answer questions and clarify as needed. Labs go with material covered and are very useful in understanding material. Reading before lecture is required and that is very useful academically, also easy points on reading quizzes! Tests are not difficult and homework is relevant. With her, CHEM401 was a breeze!
Nuss is a great teacher. She gets cranky real fast if you don't listen to her. Overall the class was relatively easy. I have a more difficult time in Chem than Bio and I still got an A, but their was a lot of studying involved. Read the book before class and work the sample problems before class and you'll get an A too!
La La Loove Nuss! I'm so glad i took her! Only thing hard was getting to class at 8am but other then that she is super helpful, approachable, and sweet. She is super organized, from reading quizzes, to lab, to exams, etc. don't get me wrong, it's a lot of work, but everything helps you understand the material
She is a horrible professor don't take her. home work is extremely difficult and pointless. You cannot pay attention in her class because she is very boring, she is really bad at explaining things her lectures are unclear and also the exams are difficult to pass.
she is very unapproachable. and treats every student differently.even if you and your lab partner have the same answers, you will probably get different grades. her voice is obnoxious and makes it hard to listen to her. She is a really hard grader, expects everyone to be chemists. the homework is INSANELY difficult
Chem 305 is a hard and fast class. you will need a tutor just to help understand the martial. She assume that her students are not trying hard enough but it's really her that is not helpful. If you need help in class forget it. Her answer are unclear and rude. She is very critical and judgmental. I have never met a cruel prof like her before.
Let me start of by stating that tutoring is mandatory. Her PowerPoint are not her but from the book's company. So if you can't understand the book then you're screwed. Her words can be find offensive. If your failing, she will tell you to drop. You will need 8h a day just for studying. Most learning is done on your own. Good luck.
Notice the only good comments about her are from more advanced chem courses? She is not good at teaching intro. She expects everyone to be chem majors. Grades really hard. Tests & quizzes are insane. Homework is a waste of time.
Hard class. If you are a lazy student you will not pass. This class takes effort and that is a good thing. Prof Nuss is a good teacher that has to cram a lot of info in just one semester. Pay attention and do your HW. Study for the exams and you will be fine. Approachable during office hours. Take her for sure if you are majoring in CHEM.
she is hard to talk to-has an "im better than u" attitude. I expected this class to be hard-& it is. But her poorly written lectures and waste of time homework make it even worse. She is a tough grader. Expect to spend a lot of time in tutoring!
Not the best chemistry professor. Her grading is really hard, she expects us to know everyting. Homework is extremely long and difficult. Also the exams are really hard to pass. you will always be lost while she is lecturing and would have no clue what she is talking about. TAKE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Nuss should not teach chem 305 it is an intro course and she expects her students to be advanced. Other professors take their time and are WEEKS before ours because they want the students to actually learn the material! Plus she is rude. She makes excuses and is always late and is super unclear. So many people have dropped and I get why.
Prof. Nuss is good teacher, she can be tough and a bit picky but this subject is very dense so she doesn't really have a choice but to move at a faster teaching pace. This class is A LOT of work. Homework takes long hours, studying is definitely mandatory, and pay full attention to lecture or you will easily fall behind. I would take her again.
I don't recommend her. She is boring and not good at teaching. I don't like her attitude towards students. Her final study guide isnt even helpful at all. Wasted my whole semester.
I had never taken chemistry before (not even in high school), so I found that reading (& re-reading) the text & attending Beacon workshops to be absolutely essential. Students complain that she is too tough & expects everyone to be an "expert" but I disagree. She is very fair but expect to put a lot of time into this class. She does NOT curve.
Mrs, Nuss is a good teacher. That said, you will need to dedicate 5 to 15 hours per week to HW and study because this is science, and science is a (worthwhile) challenge. Knowing or brushing up on fractions will help you, as will taking CHEM 317 concurrently. If you're dedicated she'll make sure you're equipped with the resources you need to pass.
She is amazing! Very professional. Lectures are very interesting. She is clear and always willing to help. Only 3 tests. Extra points are in tests and quizzes. In test everything that she is giving in lectures. No surprises. Very fair. I am an ESL student and I got a high "A" in her class. If you are on chem or med career, take only her. I will!
She is a very good teacher she will say in the first class meeting that you cannot pass if you don't do the homework and she is telling the honest truth. She likes to make sure everything is clear before moving on and will always help you when needed. Only 3 exams and e.c. on quizzes it's really not hard if you pay attention. I definitely recommend
Prof. Nuss is a great teacher. She will give you every tool needed to get through the class . This is one of the hardest classes you will take and you need a teacher who is present and available. As long as you do the homework, study, apply yourself, ect, you will pass. She will make every effort to help you pass.
Her lectures are absolutely a waste of time. Her lectures are literally her reading and writing off printed lectures, which is not helpful at all. Study guides are not helpful... The only thing that was actually helpful in her class was the practice exams she posted on her website. I would have probably done well if only her lectures were better.
Hard class, but you have to expect that with Chem. Its not easy. Prof Nuss lectures from notes. Dont just take notes from what she puts on the board, be sure to write down what she says as well. Easy points for hw and lots of extra credit opportunities. Be prepared to study at least 20 hrs a week. Very nice lady, will help you if you ask for it.
Nuss has a great teaching criteria on what each student should know in order to be successful in the class. Her lectures are long but are well understood. She gives 3 exams and 1 final which are really tough. Study guides are given but don't really help you at all. Homework is done online but be ready for a load of it. Gives extra credit. Focus!!!
I would never take Nuss ever again! She likes to bring down students and not encourage them. Study guides are not very helpful, tons of online homework. Also she is horrible at writing notes and explaining how she got the answers.
This is a class that requires a lot of time and effort, but it isn't impossible. She is clear, and will help you if you ask for it. She gives extra credit on every test and homework assignment. You will definitely benefit from a study group for this class. I was able to pass with an A. I would absolutely take another chemistry class with her.
I'm certain other students had a different experience taking her, but for me, it was a nightmare. Professor Nuss is definitely not someone you want to have for an 8am lecture. She talks to the students in the lecture hall as if we are still in high school. It's demeaning to the point where she can make you feel like crap if you're not expecting it.
I agree with the previous in that Nuss degrades, nitpicks, and isn't very sincere. Maybe she's tired. Maybe she should retire if her joy is assuming everyone is guilty of cheating and loves to point out when students miss class. This is college. Get over it! Lectures are painfully dull. Definitely take another professor of you have the option.
She's awful! Takes points off, & makes excuses when you ask her why she took them. Tests don't match up to the practice exam or study guide she gives. Its like shes trying to get her students to fail. Lectures are long, & shes very condescending towards her students. She also thinks everyone cheats and has to sign your in class work to get credit.
She's the worst chemistry professor I've ever had! Her class is very centered around technicalities, not actually understanding concepts. Just copies from her notes during lecture & doesn't explain. She was even teaching new material the day before the final. Takes points off for small things & scolds you like a child if you make a mistake.
There is not much else I can say about Nuss that has not already been addressed in previous comments. She is a very stereotypical grumpy teacher. She scolds the class like a mom and treats us as if chem is our only priority. She has the ability to be a great teacher but she needs to change her approach and overall outlook on teaching.
Professor Nuss is really good. I found her so helpful. I usually go to her office hours if i dont understand anything & she always help me out. Exams are not bad if you do the homework and pay attention to lecture notes then you should be fine. She gave alot of extra credit points in hw as well as in exams. she is straightforward in what she wants.
She didn't teach much of the material, writes a bunch on the board for you to copy, but lacks explanations and examples. Did not help prepare for exams, relies on students being self taught. Did not learn much from this prof.
Professor has high expectations, taking partial points off of small things such as sig figs. However, if you put forth the effort by doing the HW, attending labs, not skipping lectures, she is thorough in her lectures. Likes to give chapter quizzes that act as a litmus test to see how you are doing before unit exams. Lots of chances for points.
Her lectures are in-depth and writes her exams based on what she thought in class. If you have a hard time understanding something she takes her time to explain the process. If you participate in the Beacon tutoring you get extra credit. She also post previous exams as help tools for exam prep. She's amazing!
Take notes during lectures and you'll get an easy A. I only used the textbook when doing homework for exams I only reviewed my class notes and previous exams she posts. She explains things in a different way if you do not understand it, just ask questions.
Take someone else if you can. She expects everyone to be a master in chemistry. More than half the class would fail the quizzes or test. Just a heads up
The professor has few instruction in class, which make all of students confused & if you ask question, she will rude & don't answer your question. The grading rule changed and changed make us annoy. She use other teacher's exam & which didn't match with the study guide she gave.
She was a really great professor. She gets really excited about the material and cares about whether you actually understand the material. I definitely recommend taking CHEM 317 with 305. It gives you time with a chem professor where you can get extra help and you get a unit for it.
Lectures are, Chemistry lectures. They're boring. This class is a hodgpodge of subjects that gets overwhelming, especially by the final which was incredibly hard. Homework helps to understand subjects and is a must. This class will be your life for 4 months. Lots of work both in and out of class. It could have been worse.
Just go to class and do your hw. study guides are really helpful.
This class is a lot of work no matter who you take it with. I think she prepared me well for my future courses however I think she could be more welcoming in with students. She was somewhat condescending and I would not consider her approachable. The thing that threw me off the most about this class is she gave ACS final without warning.
I was taking her class and dropped it! Her test was nothing like her practice exams! She was not approachable and had very little to no office hours. Half of the class dropped and instead of helping the rest stay in she would just brag about the people who were doing good. She accuses people of cheating all the time. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
By far the worst chem professor i've taken. she isn't approachable at all. Her tests are nothing like her study guides and shes plain rude. She isnt helpful and since shes paranoid of people cheating she accused multiple people of doing it.
