if you are suffering from insomnia, take this class.
AWESOME!
Tests are impossible, 300 level difficulty. Take BIO with other teachers.
too early in the morning. didnt pass a single test and made a C in the class, final vocab is easy as hell.
She explains well in class but the tests are very very hard. Takes alot to get up that early in the morning and studying everyday is needed.
Pretty boring but no attendance policy. Get the notes from a friend and study before the test and you should do fine.
Here is a professor that reads her notes off of her powerpoint slides. Boring is the 1st thing that comes to mind and another problem is she can't answer some of the questions we ask her in class.
tests are hard as hell, but the curve is nothing to complain about. the class is generally boring and almost impossible to sit through at 8am.
Great professor and very helpful both in class and out. And what a hottie she is. Keep up the good work :)
she is a good teacher...everything u need to know is on her slides, so just copy everything u see and u will do good.
I think she is definatly one of the better BIO professors, but still hard as hell. I got a D but i did mess up on the first test. Just do the work in the lab and you should be fine.
Dr. Potts is so hot!!!!!!
if you dont like bio, this class will be even more boring then it was in high school, i dont remcommend taking it in the morning, youll fall asleep...but if you go to all the class, read the book, and review sessions it helps a lot, if not you wont dogood
the only reason i didnt drop this class was because the **** was hot and i needed to take it....I cheated on every test, never went to class and came out with a B...test are the same just questions put in a different order...
I came to this school wanting to become a bio major and now i'm not so sure. This is definitely a WEED OUT course..appearences are decieving. The lecture notes seem easy..just wait for the lecture exams, their impossible. Only lab will save ur average.

Professional lecturer...enough said. Her tests were very hard, she couldn't answer the classes questions and admitted to us she had to read the chapter three times to understand it.
course if very hard but Dr. Potts did a good job explaining everything. Shes a good teacher, the material is just very hard and if you're not too good at science, dont expect an A in this class. Go to lab and study for the little quizes to save your grade
Her tests are very hard! I studied for them for hours and still didn't get the best grade. Her lectures are informative but somehow everyone seems to be dissatisfied with their grade. Overall tests are impossible and the lab saves your grade.
In lecture I think she's too smart and needs to come down a level, she's one a the better bio teachers I've had. Exams are VERY hard, go to lab it will save ur grade.
Don't take this class unless it's required. Lectures are all powerpoint and tests are hard especially if you don't study. Do well in lab to help your grade. Dr.Potts curves the tests alot, she cares about her students, probably the best bio teacher
Print out all the slides & take notes! If you don't listen in lecture & fall asleep like i did, make sure you read the book! All the test material comes directly from the book. If you do well in lab it will boost your grade. Very lg. curve at the end.
Potts on the shape of cells: "Cells are round.....like the earth is round"
Dr. Potts is very fair in her tests and with her grading. She is a great teacher and really sparked my interest in biology. Be prepared to work in her class, though.
I hated this class. I studied my notes from lecture for hours and hours and felt like I understood the material until I got to the exam. All of the exams were very hard. I bombed all of them! Do not take this class if it is not required.
Great teacher! Take her. She will really teach you biology.
I think that Dr. Potts is a great boilogy teacher. she gives really good analogies to help understand the material. she really wants her student to pass. she drops the lowest test grade. But be prepared to study the review sheets and they will help
Potts is good at explaining and the class is not terribly difficult if you actually go and read the text. She drops the lowest test grade and curves each test about 10 points, but that just shows how badly some people do. My best suggestion: READ!
Don't fall asleep in her lectures and you better understand of you will spend more than enough hours studying alternate information. Take good notes and do vocabulary during class so you don't waste time. Review on CD-Rom is awesome for a good grade.
Biggest witch at unc-w...isn't there something wrong with your tests if you have to curve a 74 to an A???
Wouldn't recommend taking this class if you don't have to. She's very boring and most people find it hard to stay awake, therefore, they don't learn the material. I studied hours on end for her class and normally had a hard time making a good grade until she added a curve.
I went to this class on the first day and for tests only and i made an A in the class. Ridiculously easy.
mrs. potts is a really good teacher. she isn't hard but you do need to study some for her tests. she knows her stuff.
she may have been boring in her tone, but she did make a point of stopping to make sure everyone understood what she was talking about and did her best to explain it when someone was unclear on the material.
Class is boring, but everything is on the notes she gives u in class. Tests are tricky... she phrases the questions in a very tricky way. Made a B in class and never went after the 1st week. Lab saves ur butt when it comes to grades, so if u must take it take it with her and do well in lab.
She is always willing 2 help & has reviews b4 tests. PwrPt in class is very boring, so many catch up on sleep. No quizzes in class, so u dont have 2 go. Tests r very difficult, even w/the curve. About 30% fail rate of the class. Labs r very easy though.
AHH! Dim lights, dull lecture, no enthusiasm. Big curves on hard tests. Terrible teacher but fairly easy class. Don't need to read text, just look at pictures and read notes. SOOOO boring. If you have the option, take someone else.
She is soooooo sweeet. She does everything she can to help her students. If u go to the review sessions u will do well on the test. She curves fairly and lets u drop a test grade. Biology is boring but she is the best teacher for it.
She is soo boring and she rambles on and on about stuff we don't need to know for the tests. She does curve but her tests are really hard.
A nice lady who really wants to help, but often her explanations are very unclear. Hard to stay awake in class, but you have to take notes to pass. Uses lots of pictures to explain things, which was sometimes really hard for me when I didn't have concepts or notes in writing. Hard tests!
Very boring class. She gets off topic and tells you stuff that you dont need to know. She talks a lot about what you learn in other classes but doesnt talk a lot about what you should know for her class. Its hard to stay awake in her class.
Classes are boring as anything, either fell asleep each class or didn't go because it would just make me fall asleep. Tests are impossible, her review sessions are pointless. I wouldn't recommend at all.
very smart lady. she knows what she's talking about. everything is very straight-forward. as long as you copy down the notes that she puts on the slides and study, you'll do great, but you have to understand the material to be able to apply it to the test questions.
Is Molecular Biology Bio 345? I cannot remember. She is not a bad teacher, just straight from the book so it can get boring. She definitely knows her stuff. Make sure you study because her tests can be a little long.
I had Linda for freshman bio, and I don't remember if I learned anything, but i don't care. Dr. Potts is an uber-hottie!!
Good teacher and nice but HARD TESTS
This class is very easy. You don't even have to go to class because she gives you review sheets. The tests are alright, not hard not easy, in the middle. Some of the questions come from the chapter tests in the back so be sure to check it. I would recommend taking this class highly.
She is a very smart woman and a great teacher. review sheets are helpful, and reading the book isnt really necessary
she is a very good teacher, very clear. but her tests are so freakin hard you REALLY have to study and UNDERSTAND everything from the notes.
Yea, she's a good professor, although the book really isn't necessary. She gives you review sheets, so reading isn't necessary either, just study! Her tests can be hard if you don't and she tends to stick to opposites (as far as definitions go)!
She is a really nice professor always willing to take the extra step to help BUT.... this is a really difficult class. There is an unbelievable amount of material to cover for each test and she tends to make the tests a little too long for the amount of time given. It is expected that you pretty much memorize EVERYTHING.
Dr. Potts is not a great teacher. She knows her stuff but is not good at explaining it. Her tests are EXTREMELY long..mostly short answer. Study daily as they are tough and she expects you to know every frigging detail, after all, she does! She is willing to meet with students and tries to help, but those sessions are not helpful either.
Dr. Potts is an enthusiastic professor--I found her lectures very interesting. Tests were difficult, but came from her lecture notes--you had to be able to apply information you leaned--not just recite what you could memorize. She has a very generous grading system--she drops lowest test grade and curves the rest.

She is a very good teacher. Test are really hard! You have to have a firm grasp on the material because the questions are really in depth. Learned a lot! Do your best in lab because it really helps your grade, and she even drops the lowest test. I would highly recommend her!!
Dr. Potts was a great teacher. If you are planning on taking the MCAT, OAT, DAT, or PCAT, def. take her class, you WILL know the material. She is a very awesome teacher and very fair when she curves the tests. I would advise everyone to take her!!
This is a difficult course for most. You couldn't really ask for a better professor for a hard course. She is thorough. If you are having difficulties with something just speak to her about it. She is more than willing to listen and to offer suggestion.
def had to study for her tests but she was an excellent teacher, by far one of the best in her field. willing to help you with everything. come to class and take notes, look over the notes and you'll do fine in the class.
This was the easiest class I've had so far. Read and do the practice quizzes on the CD and you'll do fine. I went to class the first week, and on test days and ended up with an A; not because I didn't like her, but because it was an 8am class.
If I had taken this class without knowing that I want to grow up to be a mol. biologist. I would have changed my major. She is undeniably one of my WORST teachers of all time. She rambles the whole time, has ridiculous tests and DOESN'T DO RESEARCH! Her experience in the field is 16yr old! She's a lecturer! why is she teaching upper level classes?
Definitely the best bio professor you could have. She is so knowledgeable in her field, and is very fair.
I either went to sleep in this class or didn't go...and I made an A easy. This was such an easy class, just look over the power points and read a little and you'll do fine.
Dr. potts is very helpful and always willing to talk to you outside of class, however she is not a good teacher for bio 325. her test are ridiculously long (108 ques-50 min). --by the way this is bio 325 not 204. her field is molecular bio, not gen. bio. so as far as being knowledgeable about current material not in the book, i would agree with no
Dr. Potts is a great teacher. There is a lot of material for this class, but she does a good job at giving students keys to remember things. She's really really nice too. I would definately recommend taking her class.
Dr. Potts is an excellent professor. She knows what she is talking about and is extremely helpful. I highly recommend taking her anatomy course.
I can't say enough about Dr. Potts. She is awesome. She presents the material in an easy, understandable, digestable manner, which makes her a great professor (unlike Ballard who knows the info but can't teach it down to the level non-Med students can learn). Plus, he gets complaints of being intimidating and non-approaching. Potts is the better!
Dr. Potts is an amazing teacher. She is so willing to help students and really wants you to learn. If you pay attention and study, you will succeed in her class. Definitely recommended!
Horrible teacher. Talks way to fast and does not stop for 50 minutes.
She is a good professor with a kind heart only her tests are impossible. She makes the tests so that you basically have to be certified in everything on it. The time limit and the amount of questions she gives just make the tests even more impossible. Taking this class will definitely cause you to take it over again.
Horrible! Do not take her. I got an A in a&p1. Then took her for a&p2 and failed by .2 and she would not help me out on it. I went to her when I was struggling and she just pushed me out of her office with advice that is common sense. Her tests are ridiculous, I spent countless all nighter's in the library. Do not take her.
Anatomy is really tough no matter who you take. I took ballards class and got a D. So i retook it with potts and have a B right now. You MUST know the material really well to even get a C. I like potts teaching better. She explains well. If you have to take Anatomy.. good luck!! Study hard if its what you need to get what you want.
Let me begin by saying - I don't hate Dr. Potts but if you can find a different professor please take Anatomy with them. The tests are horrible thus the reason that Spring 12' class average was 63% . Don't expect to get an A or a B in this class unless you have a background in anatomy or plan on studying for at least 10 hours daily.
I think if you follow directions, read the material before coming to class, take notes on her handouts and read the material again afterwards, it will sink in. With the amount of material covered and intense exams, you can't surf Facebook during lecture or cram 10 hours the night before. Trust me, I guarantee the ones complaining did just that.
Dr. Pott's is a very friendly and intelligent professor, but her exams are impossible. Doesn't matter how much you study, if you don't learn to take the exam format you're screwed. There is not enough time alloted for the exams also, and you don't have time to sit and think. You must know the answer immediately. HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. EVER.
Expects way too much from what little time you have. She just gives so much information without the time or help to truly know it.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I knew all the info by heart and could recite it but her test were presented to you in a completely different way than she teaches. She talks to you like you already know the info rather than... teaching the info. I would def take this course at a different college.
All she really did was lecture the entire class. They can be really boring and confusing if you don't already know the info. This class is definitely doable if you study a lot on your own time. I would say that's the key to the class is studying the notes and powerpoints.
What a terrible waste of hours. Even pouring over the material daily won't answer the tiny nuances that the exam questions will ask you to differentiate between. As a straight A student I can say without a hitch that this class was HORRIBLE.
Lectures aren't mandatory but if you miss more than 1-3 the entire semester, you can kiss passing goodbye. She talks super fast during lectures and talks to you as if you already know the info. She doesn't stop to further explain things. Her test are nearly impossible and are in a totally different format than the notes.
Dr. Potts is great! I like her a lot and she seems to really care for her students. The exams are tough, but that's because the material is tough. It can be overwhelming at times, but you have to take it a day at a time! Great class and SO much better than Bio 240!
She gives you all the notes beforehand this makes it much easier to pay attention and pick up on the interesting topics she brings up in class. Nothing on the test is not covered in the written notes. That being said her tests are about as hard as they can be.
Potts is a great teacher, human anatomy is going to be hard no matter how you spin it. If you go to class she will tell you specifically what you have to know. I took her for both A&P I and II. I also had her as my lab TA and that is where she was most helpful. She wants to help, go to class, read her lecture notes and power points you'll be fine.
She's a fantastic teacher.... if you go to lecture and study like crazy for her tests and having her for lab is a big bonus. I'm taking her BIO241 next semester.
MOST DIFFICULT CLASS OF ALL TIME. The material is already difficult, but Potts makes the test impossible. Save yourself and take this class at a community college over the summer.
Okay, Dr. Potts is a very clear professor. You do NOT have to have an anatomy background to get an A, but you do have to study at least three days a week. I crammed before every test and throughout the week before the exams and got a very good grade in both anatomy classes by Dr. Potts. Just pay attention and study. You don't need the book.
Great instructor
Potts was a hard teacher, yes, but if you are willing to work at it and use her study guides that she gives you, she is a great professor! It is not an easy A, but if you attend her lectures and if you read through the study guides and spend a little bit of time on it daily, as well as study hard for the tests, you will be fine.
This class is tough regardless of the teacher Prof. Potts is nice and quite friendly but as a transfer student I felt isolated by the fact I had never taken a class with her. She assumed everyone had previously had classes with her, and makes her class very difficult for those who haven't, as she has a unique style of absurdly difficult tests
Tough subject taken to the extreme. Exams are ridiculously confusing. Final was a BOOK with questions that touched on completely different concepts from what was on exams. Avoid.
Dr. Potts is awesome. I took her for both Bio 240 and 241. She really wants her students to succeed. It's definitely tough and you need to work for it, but she really drills concepts into your head. If you want to go into a medical field I highly reccomend. Her tests can be tough but she is very fair with curves and grading. Would reccomend!!
Dr. Potts is awesome. She provides you with written lecture notes that are pretty specific and detailed so you can come to class and listen rather than trying to write everything down. You get what you work for in this class. It's a lot of material and studying everyday is the key to success.
This class is ridiculous! I studied every day, went to every single SI session & had a private tutor & still didn't pass, primarily because her tests seem like they don't even come from the material. She clearly does not know how to make a proper test. If you are coming to UNCW DO NOT take A&P1 or 2 there at all, take it at a community college.
Very nice teacher and answers your question in depth, but sometimes talks to you as if you already know some of the harder information, which makes it harder to understand. Tests are very hard but there is usually a curve that makes your grade go up almost a letter grade.
HER TESTS ARE VERY VERY HARD almost like they're meant to trip you up. Some of the question format seem like they set you up for failure even when you feel extremely comfortable with the information at hand!
She is awful. do not take her at all! her test are like Ballards. she will give a 55 question exam and you will have only 50 minutes to take it. I would take Spradley, he exams are so much easier and a better teacher.
Potts knows the material she's covering, rather than reading it off the powerpoints. However, her tests are hard and the wording of the questions can definitely trip you up. She asks a lot of, "which of the following statements is FALSE?" questions so read the questions carefully. I've lost so many points on exams over that and the limited time
This class is AWFUL. If you miss one lecture, you'll fail the next test. Honestly, she does not know how to clearly present material for a college student to understand. She thinks you are in graduate school about to become a doctor and should already know everything. Her tests are awful and averages are always below 60. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Dr. Potts doesn't see how difficult it is to take a 50+ question exam in 50 minutes. What made me realize that this class was gonna beat my ass was after taking the second test this year (bones and muscles). I need time to visualize all of those million things in my head. How can I do well when I don't have time to think about anything?
DON'T TAKE HER! If you actually enjoy the topic, don't let her ruin your dreams and any hope or aspiration to succeed in the subject. The final is 200 questions and she claimed it was easier, but she was wrong bc it was impossible! She will ruin the subject for you AND your GPA. :))) When the overall average is a D, I think she failed as a teacher.
Potts' class was the hardest class I've ever taken, BUT if you're willing to put in the work and study everyday, you will succeed! She definitely knows the information well, but her word choice on tests can be very tricky and you're only graded on 5 unit exams and a comprehensive 200-question final exam. There's also a huge curve at the end.
Dr. Potts runs a hard class but she is not the hardest anatomy prof at UNCW. Word of advice, print out her summaries and memorize everything on them while using the powerpoints for reference. She genuinely wants students to succeed and if you put in the time you can. The curve at the end is generally really big because exams are so difficult.
While it's obvious Dr Potts knows and is passionate about the subject, she seems to forget that her students are on a bit of a different level than she is. While in class and studying, you'll feel confident in your understanding of the material, but come test time, good luck! Her exams are absurd, with averages in the 50-60's. Very discouraging...
Loved Dr. Potts! Clear lecturer and very encouraging to students. So sad she's retiring!
