Reading is a must. Prepare for actually writing and actually thinking about what you are writing. Overall, come to class do what she says and youll be fine. SHE HANDS OUT EC LIKE CANY DO IT. oh, and you have to track your own grade, so DO IT. or youll end up with an F and be like "wtf" . she is funny and lots of help during ofive hours!
She is very helpful but she will make you work extremely hard, much harder than other english teachers. Hard to get an A.
She is a great teacher who wants her students to pass. She is willing to work with her students and help them throughout the semester. Gives tons of extra credit and lets you redo writing to get a the grade you want. Attendance is mandatory. She keeps class interesting with her upbeat personality.
She is a veryyyy hard grader. Huge research paper at end of semester. Wonderful person but an extremely hard class. I would recommend a different teacher because she is an extremely hard teacher. However if you do get her, DO EVERY EXTRA CREDIT DONT MISS CLASS AND GO TO OFFICE HOURS... that is the only way I survived and got an A- (tried so hard )
She was a nice and funny teacher but when it came to organization she was terrible. She said it was really simple with her online calendar but it wasn't for example we had to do an online quiz and she said it was marked "online quick in the left tab" but it wasn't there. It was called something else
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She will give you lot of assignments, but you will get only 60~70 score. Every students hate her class. Last year many people change her class to other teacher's. She doesn't like question, so usually ignore student's question. Take other class. NEVER TAKE.
Hard class, but Nothing to learn. If you can, take other class. If you cannot, just take next session.
Don't take this teacher, she lacks the quality in explaining assignments then acts like it's you're fault if you come to her with questions. Compared to other English teachers she's the hardest grader of them all on essays and gives out a lot of work. Try to get another English class if you can.
She was an amazing teacher. I don't know what the poeple below me are talking about. She cares about her students work. You have to try in this class or you won't get the grade you want. It really makes you think about writing in a different way. As long as you try, you should pass this class. Also she gives out tons of extra credit ,do it
this profesoor is so confusing.she doesn't explain the material and if you do it wrong it is the student's fault. never take this class
Don't ever think to take this class with Linda. She doesn't teach anything during class and she doesn't help to get the right way in writing. too much work for nothing.
Never take this class. She just wanna earn money not teach. Lots of H.W. She thinks students are stupid even though she never teach.
For general education classes, you come across some amazing and some not so amazing professors. Linda Rogers has been the most memorable, knowledgeable, and easygoing instructor. You get great use out of the textbooks and she never assigns something unless it has some worth. I've learned to much in this course and I would definitely recommend it.
First of all, everything you need to know about this class is in the syllabus and the 'basic information' folder. She expects you to understand everything in there and don't be mad when she gets mad at you when you did't follow her guidelines. She gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities and lets you revise papers for a better grade.
I had this class at 8 am and you only get 3 absences so it sucked. She assigns A LOT of homework and work, way more then any of the other English 130 teachers. I personally would never take her again, try to get another teacher if you can, but her work is bearable, just a lot of it. She offers a lot of extra credit, SO DO IT!
She's very helpful as long as you take initiation because she isn't going to hold your hand and walk you through class. Tough grader, but very fair. Learned a lot from her class. She truly cares about her students and she's always willing to help. Huge research paper at the end and lots of homework, lots of reading and writing. Extremely worth it.
Linda is a great teacher, she made english not os boring because she is funny and entertaining. The big paper that is due at the end of the semester sucks, make sure you choose a good topic. I chose wiccans and absolutely hated it. Be prepared to write a lot... obviosuly its a wi class.
pretty nice lady. gives a good amount of homework and lots of reading and writing in this class. she called me out a few times in class. and you have to make a presentation for an event at school, like a video or a game or a poster board.
I love Linda. This class is very time consuming, but worth it. Linda helps to significantly improve your writing. By far the best class I've taken at Chico.
Amazing English teacher! She is always there to help, and has aided my writing throughout the semester. She is a fun teacher and is really funny. If you turn everything in, and make sure your trying, its an easy pass.
Super nice english teacher but lots and lots of homework. It was a rough semester with papers due each week so get ready to grind. Very time consuming with multiple big projects. Make sure to show up to each class or she will lower your grade or cut you. Overall worth it. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Linda does EVERYTHING it takes to motivate her students to develop better writing skills. The class is structured so writing is pretty constant, but just like a sport you have to practice to get better. You can rewrite almost anything for higher points, & ultimately the grade you desire is a reflection of how much you care to seek improvement.
Linda cares so much about your success as long as you do too! She really makes you work for your grade, but she gives you so many opportunities. She is super sarcastic, but she makes the class super enjoyable. Linda relates the class to issues going on today and everything we read is RELEVANT!!
I looked up to Linda as a role model. She was one of my favorite professors I've had thus far at Chico. If you go to class and work hard, it will all be worth it. I learned so much in this class and she pushed me to be better a better writer, thinker, analyzed, and speaker. I think the people that didn't like this class didn't want to be pushed or challenged. If you want to become a better writer and push yourself to think more in depth, please take her. I am so glad I took this class!
This is the best class ever. Create a relationship with Linda and you are good to go. Linda is hilarious and makes you look forward to going to class, she is the QUEEN of extra credit so DO IT. She is the sweetest woman and tells the best stories, if you have Linda you are very lucky. Do the work and you will pass, do more: get an A.
If you are planning to go into writing this class would be for you since she pushes you to do better and if you take hard criticism she may help you to do that. However, she will call you out for being wrong in front of the whole class and is NOT nice about it, she once said I write like a third grader and will give out negative percentage grades.
Linda is a great professor. She brings up interesting points and the work she has us do is productive and interesting. However, she does not like students who do not participate and is a really tough grader. She will call you out in front of the class and definitely has students that she favors more than others. Definitely pushes your writing skill
The hardest english 130 class in chico, an extreme amount of work and very tough grading. On the other hand if you want your writing to improve this is the class
Harder than chemistry or calculus, an insane workload and extremely tough grading. more than 5 absences and your grade drops a whole letter. extremely unreasonable professor and extremely specific about everything. expect atleast 1 assignment due everyclass
Linda Rogers will make you a better writer, thinker, and well-rounded person. She will only accept your best. If you put in the effort, she will respect you and help you in your journey at Chico State. At first, I was intimidated by her, but by the end of the semester, she was a leading figure in my life. Do the extra credit and she will love you.
She plays favorites, and if you arent one of her favorites she will be mean to you in front of the whole class. You have to write a paper a week, which is way more than any other English 130 class.
This was the worst professor I have ever had. Starting off this is an entry level GE english class, yet she feels the need to shove her liberal propaganda down your throat constantly in every paper that you ever write and if you disagree with her she will give you a bad grade. DO NOT take this class, she assigns 2 papers a week and she's annoying.
She is a very interesting teacher. Since this is a writing class expect to write a lot, as in, I hope you don't have free time because she will give papers to write. If you are taking 5 classes because of a heavy major and want to have a life kind of, then I can't stress enough but DO NOT take her. She does have good feedback and is kind of funny
Linda Rogers will make you grow as a writer. She assigns a lot of work, but she grades fairly and puts you on a schedule that is easy to follow. The amount of extra credit she assigns is insane, and her curriculum is very simple. As long as you are prepared, you will do well in her class.
She grades tough, and she comes off mean you just have to get on her good side. Linda wants you to succeed so she expects a lot out of students. If you are looking for an easy English GE class I suggest you take another professor.
If you have the chance to take her class, DO IT! She is the type of professor that knows how to keep lectures entertaining and how to assign work that is never boring. She is great at connecting with students and makes her class fun and engaging, while also doing a great job at teaching effectively. As long as you put in the effort, you will pass.
If you're not willing to come to class every day and do every single assignment on time, DO NOT take this class. She is very opinionated and will remove you from the course if she notices you lacking. Ready to be put on the spot and called out for literally breathing while she's talking? She has very high expectations. Lots of extra credit tho.
Linda really values attendance and participation, so don't sign up if you can't show up and raise your hand. She gives more extra credit opportunities than any other professor I've ever had, and I've learned how to write better in her English class than any other English class I've taken.
MADE ME WANT TO DROP OUT OF SCHOOL. Never had anything nice to say. Her feedback is always negative. Terrible person.
The worst professor I have ever had. She will belittle you in front of the whole class for no reason. I had her during the virtual semester due to COVID, and she does not take into consideration what her students may be going through. If you do not follow the assignment's instructions PERFECTLY, she will give you a ZERO. SAVE YOURSELF!!!!
It's a lot of work, but it's worth it.
Do not take her class if you dont like to participate, go to class or writing lots of papers. You have to follow her directions perfectly. She is VERY sarcastic. Tough grader. Lots of homework. Got upset if we didnt have our cameras on. Will call you out. There are good moments, but doesnt last long. Im glad I didnt have her in person.
If you procrastinate, drop this class. If you are taking a lot of units, drop this class. Lots of work and is an extremely hard grader. Will give you extensions if you ask for it and will give you more extra credit than any other professor. Extremely passive-aggressive in class and will require you to participate.
I cannot express how much I despise this woman. She is one of the rudest people I have ever met. She picks favorites (mostly the boys) and will make your life a living hell if she doesn't like you. Loves to belittle her students in front of the class. Save yourself the trouble and pick another professor.
If you do not like talking, you are screwed. Your grade will be no higher than a C even if you do everything else. If you are not a perfectionist you will never get an A. You have to follow every instruction to the pixel or she will SPAM emails to the whole section mentioning how people don't follow instructions when her instructions are the worst.
Linda is really caring and understanding, but she often comes off as harsh and isnt afraid to really criticize you in front of the class. Overall, I learned a lot from her and she gives out a lot of extra credit, thats how I kept my A in her class.
Worst class i've ever taken, took it my first semester in college, she is not understanding even with COVID, and her assignments are so hard if you think you understand the prompt you probably don't, she never gives A's, she also calls people out so you have to make sure you are paying attention, IF YOU CAN TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
One of the rudest professors I have ever had. She makes comments to students like she's a high school bully. If you think college is stressful just wait till you take her class. If you do not follow her exact guidelines to the paper you will get an F, she picks on students every day which I found very harmful to my learning, pick a diff professor!!
Linda was an odd dichotomy. I had her online so the experience may be different. If you put in the effort, you WILL definitely become a better writer and researcher. BUT she is the epitome of negatively egotistical; constant arrogant remarks, and an attitude of intellectual superiority that was unbearable to hear. I'm top student in her class btw.
She is one of the most belittling and degrading professors I have ever had. She loves to make her students feel dumb and does not encourage a welcoming nor warm atmosphere in class. She expects you to speak every class yet is so rude to you and makes you feel so stupid. Worst experience ever.
Linda is one of the worst professors at Chico State by far. She is rude and doesnt give clear instructions. If you make her mad or show a lack of interest in the class your grade will go down almost instantly. If you dont do exactly what SHE wants you will never get above a 50%. She also LOVES to belittle her students in front of their peers!
Linda Rogers has been my favorite professor at Chico State, by far. She is extremely caring and hilarious, and she never failed to cheer me up throughout the semester. Her class has a very heavy workload, but it is mostly easy and manageable. My writing skills improved greatly after taking her class, so I would recommend her to anybody!
The type of lady to think your only taking her class this semester. Everything is so meticulous and time consuming and be ready to be flooded with messages if you dont follow the directions down to the pinpoint.
Linda does care a lot about her students but she can be really hard on them in ways that seem trivial. She does ridicule her students in class occasionally and assigns a lot of work for a class in which other professors assign much less. I would recommend finding another professor especially if you value your time.
Linda Rogers was so far the only teacher that showed she cared. She definitely wants all of her students to pass you just have to apply yourself. Although, she can ridicule you in class sometimes, it is to help you. Her expectations are pretty high but she is a great teacher and only wants the best for you! She also has a cute dog.
Linda belittles and bullies her students, she seems to be genuinely mean-spirited. She is the worst professor I have ever had because of her attitude and treatment of her students. If she does not like you, she will go out of her way to embarrass you in front of the class. The workload is insane for a 100-level class. Take a different professor.
Linda just wants her students to leave the class remembering the material. If you do not want a class you have to participate in and actually do work do not take this class you will fail. You cannot just skim by in this class, but as long as you communicate with her and show her you are doing your best she will take care of you. Prioritize class.
Linda seems to not care about students or want to teach them.
I can say that Professor Linda Rogers is definitely a tough grader and only wants the best work you can do. As long as you follow her instructions and go above and beyond, she will give you extra credit and might possibly use your work for future student reference. She definitely offers lots of easy extra credit which anyone is capable of getting.
She is one of the worst professors that I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. Everything has to be done perfectly and even then its not good enough for her. The curriculum is good, if it had a different teacher then it would be a good class. She practically bullies and makes examples of students if you do anything that doesn't match her set ideas
She's one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She says she's "sarcastic" but its just to cover her being blatantly rude/disrespectful to students. Her work standards are impossible to achieve, nothing meets her standards. She is very controlling and demands you do extra work outside of the assigned/expected work. Be cautious if you take this class
Unrealistic workloads. More homework than any other class I have ever taken, and it's pretty much due every day of the week. Nothing meets her standards. Ridiculously nit-picky. Says she's 'sarcastic' but just belittles students. You will fail if you don't show up.
Her "class" makes you lose all remaining faith in humanity and in the education system. I have a theory that if you end up in hell you will just be tasked with reliving her class for the rest of eternity.
Goodluck if you take this class
This professor demands the most pointless work, any professor who requires a 3-page letter written to her about the class at the end of the year ON TOP OF FINALS is a professor who does not deserve a high rating.
I have never struggled so much class. She claims to be "sarcastic" but it's just a cover up for her bullying students. She will call you out if you aren't taking notes about stuff she's talking about in class that is 100% pointless to write down. She is so nit-picky about writing and even if you do the corrections she "gave" you, you'll still fail.
The workload isn't too bad and she is good about giving extensions. But her attitude is something else. She can be rude and in a bad mood, which will be very clear about her mood during class. She has some ridiculous rules and is hard to reach. The textbook you read in 130W is brutal. I fall asleep every time I read it.
Most nit-picky teacher I've ever had. If things aren't PERFECT she has no grace. Her sarcasm can be a bit daunting. Not afraid to kick you out if you're not paying attention, taking notes, etc. Made us stand up and do jumping jacks until we were "awake" to engage in convo. She does provide every opportunity to get extra credit and her dog is cute.
The tools Linda gives are good and her schedules + extra credits are accessible. It's a hit or miss with Linda. Her sarcasm can be rude and I figured out that a larger classroom would be a better environment for everyone so it wouldn't seem like boot camp. I have mixed emotions about Linda so I guess it depends on how you are with her.
Take another ENGL-130W class not this one. After a full semester with this professor, you would want to consider dropping out. I honestly think it's her health that's preventing her from lecturing at a hundred percent but my god was this an experience. God bless her heart at the end of the day.
I have mixed opinions, I did like her at the beginning of the semester when I took the class, but over time her feedback was about things that didn't apply to my papers. She does give students plenty of time to write papers, but sometimes the expectations are very high. As others have said, her sarcasm can be a little harsh. TAKE THE EXTRA CREDIT.
LINDA MADE ME QUIT SCHOOL!!! After taking a class with Linda Rogers I took a year off school. After having her as a teacher I believed I could not succeed in school, and that no matter how hard I tried I was a failure. She caused a mental breakdown and harassed me, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Listen to ppl when they say FIND A DIFFERENT CLASS! She grants lots of E.C assignments and allows you to turn in late work as long as you communicate. However, the work load is unnecessarily large, she grades harshly, and she can be demeaning/rude.Everyone COULD pass w a good grade but its not worth it. She made me cry uncontrollably.
For the first couple of weeks, she comes across as a "funny/sarcastic" teacher, but towards the end, you are drained from her extremely rude and passive-aggressive personality. She expects you to read an essay a day prior to every class, taking notes on the essay itself and the author. If that isnt enough, there's papers on the "TSIS" every Friday.
Linda doesn't teach great and doesn't explain what the assignment is. She is a tough grader for no reason and says she's sarcastic, but that's an excuse to be very rude to students, even calling them out. She even attacked the whole class for something she messed up or didn't explain. The workload is too much and makes you read a lot before a class
She would call people bums. If you asked her a simple question, she would refuse to give you the answer and make you ask other students. She would give up teaching and force students to teach. Gives poor feedback. Homework every week for the textbook. At the end, you have to send her a cumulative reflection, which is completely unnecessary.
She is the type of teacher that won't be liked by everyone. She is sarcastic and expects a lot of her students. If your format is not perfect on an assignment she won't grade it. However, she did teach some important skills that many of my previous teachers simply didn't teach as well. She also gives out opportunities for getting a better grade.
Very rude, would often humiliate students
Linda is not an effective teacher. She grades harshly without clear justification and uses "being sarcastic" as an excuse for being openly rude to students, even calling them out in class. she has blamed the entire class for mistakes from her own lack of communication. workload is excessive, requiring a heavy amount of reading before each class.
She bullied me out of that class halfway through the semester. It's a freshman class, but she makes it WAY TO DIFFICULT. I absolutely do not recommend her, take Matteucci.
Linda is a strict grader and expects perfection in assignments, deducts points or giives zero for mistakes. She does offer a lot of extra credit. Assignments are straightforward, but attendance and punctuality are very important arriving late will not be taken lightly. She cares about students' success but can sometimes come off as a bit rude.
Linda Rogers was the most dehumanizing professor I have ever had the misfortune of being around she'll call you a bum in front of the whole class for being late & make you write it next to your name, her standards are insane, you are never allowed to make a mistake, she makes her allergy everyones problem, do not take this class.
When I first read the ratings of my professors, I thought people were exaggerating. They are not! This class is genuinely purgatory. She grades more on MLA format than actual content, and she grades harshly. Almost none of the homework she assigns is of value; most of it is busy work. She also abuses Pronto and forces student engagement on it.
Material in this class was confusing and absurdly graded. She is mean and utilizes sarcasm and public humiliation to "encourage" her students. She is passive aggressive and overall unwelcoming. When I would reach out for help she would literally respond with the word "um" in a message or email. Very unprofessional. Overall WOULD NOT recommend.
go to class
I love Linda! She can be tough but wants you to succeed. She gives great feedback and always has clear grading criteria. She makes you want to work hard and you are well rewarded for it! She is also very funny and gives TONS of extra credit. I learned a lot from this class. She's also super flexible and allows you to go to whatever section you want
Claims allergies to perfumes, skin and haircare, etc. "It's so bad I carry an epipen", but you have no control over people outside of the class or anywhere else that wear perfume. Why are you there in person? Emails all students 2 business days before that you will be kicked out if she decides she's "allergic to you".
Always yelling her personal opinions that should never been said in a classroom like ever.
Political! Lot's of homework don't take!!!
Difficult classes and a tough grader however she does a good job teaching the material. Has an allergy to scent products and a mandatory attendance policy as well as requiring office hour meetings.
The other ratings about sarcasm are true, but are very exaggerated. When she is sarcastic it is painfully obvious. Her allergy to perfumes is not hard to deal with, just don't put on cologne, you can still wear deodorant. people complaining about politics: If you are unready to share your opinions in a classroom you should not be in college.
In all of my years of college, this was one of the worst classes I've ever had. Will assign things based on emotion (upset at the class). Will answer questions and make you feel insignificant for asking. Makes you feel unwelcomed in the classroom. For me it was one of the worst classroom experiences. Do whatever you can to avoid this class.
