She gives you all semester to work on a ten page paper. The paper is hard, but you have 6 months to do it in.
I took online course and loved it! All the work is easy to access and very clear what you need to do and when it needs to be done by. You just log on and work anytime. Shelton is very good at answering e-mails or phone calls to help in anyway.

I took this class online. It was kind of hard. She makes you write a 10 page paper with 12 sources. She does give the whole semester to complete. I just thought she was a hard grader. I got a B in the class though.
Shelton is a great teacher--she even made grammar interesting and fun! She is a very easy grader, and her prime concern is that her students learn. She is willing to help outside of class, and very understanding. She is clear and explains things very well. I would highly recommend this teacher!!
I took this class online. She is very helpful, respectful, and responsive. I thought some of her "busy work" assignments were a little silly and more on a junior high level. Even though I did well in the class, I felt she was a pretty tough grader compared to other English teachers I have had.
It would be very hard to find a better english teacher than Professor Shelton. She explains everything in detail. She learns your name and it seems like she is concerned about each student. Alot of work is required but none of it is very hard, and it is worth it because you come out of the class such a better writer.
She is a really tough grader. She gave a lot of input on the papers but it seemed like she was trying to make you feel stupid. Overall I didn't like this class. She is way too hard on grading.
I throughly enjoyed this class and professor. English is not a fun subject for me, but she made it fun. Awesome! If you sign up for this class, plan on having fun and learning at the same time.
Overall it was a fairly easy class. I took it online, and everything was pretty self explanatory. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there is a TON of completely pointless busy work.
i had prof shelton for online english and she was great! very fair and very helpful!
She is an extremely fun teacher that has you so interested in Writing that it comes with ease and makes it exciting. Of all English classes I've had this was by far the funnest and most interactive. You prewrite using games and fun activities and you get to know your class mates.
She contradicts her own comments and a lot of them are not helpful. She doesn't breakdown your grade for you, almost like it was a random number she thought of. If given the choice I would definitely suggest another English prof.
I dreaded taking a grammar class, but Shelton made it enjoyable. I was never afraid to speak up and answer/ask questions. She was extremely helpful and an awesome teacher. I learned a ton in her class. I would definately recommend this course.
I am not sure if all the "fun" raters had the same teacher as I did. I guess I took it online. The course work wasn't difficult, there was just a lot. I spend more time in her class writing than actual learning. A whole lot of busy work. But I guess people think that is fun. I hate English education, and I am tired of being criticized!
I took this class online and didn't like her grading strategy. There were assignments I had questions about, and her response was that it didn't really matter because it didn't count toward the grade. She is very negatively critical in her feedback. Would recommend another prof if it is possible. I am going to retake just to get a better grade.
Did not like this professor, feedback was terrible, never really gave any helpful feedback. Would not recommend this professor at all.
Linda is a fun lady!I really liked how she incorporated humor in2 her lessons. It helped u understand the material and remember it better.I don't know why anyone would dislike Linda, she is one of the nicest instructors I've ever had.The Grammar class was alot of work but she is very fair in her grading. If u attend and do your work u will do well!
she make me feel like stupid. even though i really did my best at my work, she never said to me good speak. she also didn't make me not to study well done. i don't recommend her.
Ilike how Shelton really got you thinking about things. She has a pretty good way of I feel like she is biased towards her own opinion. I liked how we did our final paper in steps throughout the semester. It made it a lot easier. I would really suggest doing the notebook assignments, they will help your grade a lot in the end.
Shelton really makes an effort to make a boring, required class interesting for the students. She's very clear on her requirements and expectations. You have to go to class because there's a lot of in-class work that you're graded on. The class moves at a really quick pace, so don't get behind or you'll regret it.
Great teacher fun down to earth...the assignments are tough and alot but what do you expect for a 2010. she makes class fun. if your lucky she will keep taking classes to capitol reef that was awesome....
Linda knows so much about grammar. Taking her class has helped me understand grammatical rules more. A must take professor!!
Hard grader, focuses on content of paper. Funny, understanding, but probably not the best choice if you're looking for an easy class.
I have a documented learning disability and when I told her about it before having my letters ready she seemed very skeptical. After handing her the letter that said I require extra time for reading/writing assignments. She still docked points as if things were just late regardless of my docs from Students With Disabilities Assoc. DO NOT TAKE!
This class was awful! She has many irrelevant assignments and it is a waste of time. If you want a class that you can just build your paper at your own pace do not take this. You will be required to write long summaries on each source (12)and do book work on the side. It was a huge waste of time. After this class I changed my major from English.
This professor is really great at teaching in that she allows you to step outside of your normal perspective on grammar and how we use language. She also realizes that students are all at different levels and is very empathetic. Favorite professor so far in my 2 years at UVU.
I love Shelton! She is a great teacher! Who would have thought grammar could be such a fascinating topic? She goes beyond simply teaching commas and colons. She also engages students in debates on what is grammar, should we teach it, how should we teach it, and more. This class both brushed up my grammar skills and expanded my mind :)
Shelton is probably one of the best professors I've had at UVU. She really wants to help you with your assignments and, in my class anyway, really cares about the students. There are a lot of papers, but not needless ones. They are all meant to build into your final, so you don't have to write it in one setting. I loved this class! Very helpful.
Shelton is the best! Her class was, by far, my favourite. She is so much fun and I loved almost everything we did in the class. The textbook work wasn't as enjoyable, but overall, it was helpful. I definitely recommend taking her class if you possibly can.
Best class I've ever taken. Shelton is an amazing professor and engages the class. Also takes her students on a field trip to Capitol Reef for 3 days if interested. I absolutely loved her class and definitely recommend it!
Linda is very sweet. She also has a wide margin for an A (92 and up I think) which is awesome! I loved how all the assignments and papers lead up to the final 10 pg one so it was a lot easier to write when it came to it. She responds to email rapidly and is willing to prolong deadlines if there are problems. I recommend her!
Linda is great! I loved her class and she has a HUGE sense of humor. No final exam, just a paper and an oral presentation of the paper. Really an easy class that blends the entire semester together. Follows syllabus almost completely and she's really understanding if you miss class. She is one of the best professors that I have had. I recommend!!
Don't take it from her if you want someone who is going to read your paper and tell you what was wrong. She will just mark you down and tell you that you should have wrote it better. You wont learn, you should be an experienced writer before you take class from her.
Linda was a great teacher, she taught me a lot. She grades each paper herself and corrects it giving you pointers. She is funny and understanding! Also she is willing to help ANY time, I emailed her in the middle of the night and she emailed me right back totally willing to help. I highly recommend her!
Many assignments were quick, easy A's, but the essays are NOT. Her instructions are vague, yet she grades hard. She told me I was on the right track with my rough drafts, but then tore my final papers to pieces. I felt she was very unclear and even contradicted herself. She doesn't give 100% on papers because "there is always room for improvement."
She is AWESOME! she's funny and makes class entertaining by telling jokes and stories that relate and help us understand the subject. She made grammar FUN! not too many tests (multiple choice done on a scantron) and a paper or two. Definitely recommend taking her! She's like a spunky, young, funny version of my grandma!
very unclear does not know what she actually wants your papers to be about. You get to choose your topics but she is very particular. Grades harshly!
She is THE BEST professor I have ever had. She makes things incredibly clear and she teaches the simplicity of things without making you feel stupid. She is so helpful if you don't understand something and she is very approachable! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR! SHE'S INCREDIBLE!
Shes wonderful, and considering i hated the subject thats saying something. Learning about research papers is tedious on a good day but shes fun and smart and thought provoking and i never dreaded going to class. It certainly is work but never more than can be handled. You may not like the subject but you walk out with skill.
Took this class as a hybrid, then needed to drop the class a few weeks in due to some schedule changes. She is a great professor, generates good discussion, interesting, and fun. However, as far as a 2010 course goes there is a LOT of writing: Way more than other professors for 2010 Several page papers due almost every week along with assignments.
LInda is so nice and so much fun. This class really prepares you for all of your other college classes. She will help you with anything, and she is way funny too.
Linda is awesome! This is the most interesting, most fun, and most relevant grammar class I've ever taken. The best part about Linda is that she thinks grammar is stupid so while she is teaching it, she admits it has flaws and encourages discussion about it.She brings in readings that challenge the idea of traditional grammar. Take this class!
If you take this class be prepared to write a lot. Linda is a harsh grader with the major assignments. Most of the assignments were a waste of time. She is not helpful and her instructions are unclear. She told me I had a good topic to write about and my summaries of articles were good but then tore apart my final paper. Don't take this class!
Linda is the kind of professor that makes you love the subject. Grammar is tolerable at its best, but Linda made it interesting and fun. She is a very skilled instructor and she knows her subject matter. I believe attendance is key for receiving an A, but I never wanted to miss her class, so this wasn't a problem.
Professor Shelton was one of the best professors I have had. She is always there for you when you need help during office hours, after class, and she is invested in student's success.
Professor Shelton is not a teacher for the lazy or for the procrastinator. She is willing to work with you and will talk to you about grades if you want to know why you got a certain score. You will generally be writing a paper every week, but as long as you keep up with homework, you won't get bogged down.
She is literally THE BEST. She wants her students to succeed and wants you to get the best grade possible in her class. She does one on one conferences when it comes to midterms and your final paper. And she doesn't do a finals test! Your last research paper is your final and you finish the class a week early! Definitely has been my favorite.
I loved taking this class from Linda. She is great! She was very understanding about everything. I turned in a few assignments late and she didn't mark me down for it. All she really cares is that it is completed and that we did out best. There are a lot of papers but she is willing to help you and accommodate.
She was a good english professor. There were times in her class where she loved talking about political and controversial things, which wasn't too relevant to english. But overall, she stayed on track. Her grading for papers is very fair and she gives great feedback on how you can improve. I would take her class again.
Linda is a fantastic English teacher. She explains things clearly and openly. She will be the first to tell you that the assignment is odd or might not seem worth while, but she explains the why behind it. She is open and honest when she gives feedback, and really gives you keys to succeed.
She is like the little grandma that everyone wishes they had. She wants her students to pass and will help them make that possible. If she sees your effort, she will work with you. The whole semester was spent on writing the final paper, by building it piece by piece. She's funny and really helpful.
I loved Linda! She was so fun. Even though there was a lot of homework she made it worth it because she would help you through it. We did a lot of group assignments and group talking. I would take her class again.
Professor Shelton was one of the best teacher's I've had my entire academic career. She helps you understand the why behind the papers she gives. She is very clear on her expectations and is very enthusiastic on what she teaches. She uses the book pretty exclusively, so Google will not save you.
Professor Shelton was by far the best English professor I have ever had. She works with each student personally in order for them to be as successful as possible. She also has you work on one subject all semester long so all of the work you do is helping you develop your final paper. She is super compassionate and loving to all!
I had some health issues this semesters and she was very caring and willing to help. Class was a little boring, it's mostly just grading your grammar worksheets together, I almost wish it had been a little bit more challenging. Careful though, she was a much tougher grader than I expected for the big projects.
This is probably the best English professor I have ever had. She is moderately animated when she talks and is never a bore. She has no latework tolerated in her syllabus, but if you have a really good reason on why you'll be a couple hours late or a day late, she'll let it slide. She really connects with the students and knows their situation well.
I took Professor Shelton's online 2010 class and it was pure hell. She does not grade fairly in the slightest. One assignment was an annotated bibliography and I got docked 15 points because my sources apparently had nothing to do with my topic, and they most certainly did. She grades way too tough and in the oddest way. I do not recommend taking.
I took the class online and there was a lot of discussions with classmates which I liked. Spent whole semester building pieces of the final paper each week and Shelton gave excellent feedback to help you do well. She went through each persons paper and left detailed suggestions on how to write better. Easy class if you know how to write a paper.
This was the best designed online class I have taken. Her lectures are straightforward, entertaining, and informative. English is a strength of mine and, as such, this class was rather easy. However, I wouldn't suggest an online course for those who find English/writing challenging.
Overall, she was fine. Make sure you turn in all your work before the due date or its not worth any points. Everything you do leads up to the final paper. She gives good feedback and doesn't expect too much other than you do your work and make sure its on time.
Professor Shelton was one of the BEST professors Ive had. I enjoyed going to her class every day. We wrote 3 papers through the semester and had one final essay. Before each paper was due, we had a peer review in class which was really helpful. She also had opportunities to meet with her before the final paper and get feedback. Take her class!
I really enjoyed Professor Shelton's class. The assignments were thought provoking and fun, but there are a lot of them! The midterm, and most importantly the final paper, are going to make or break your grade in this class. If you make sure to invest the time needed and to read Professor Shelton's feedback, you will get an A and enjoy doing it!
Shelton was rigid as a professor. I learned a lot in the class, but it felt like it all came from teaching myself. The quizzes were easy because you could take them an unlimited amount of times to pass, but the tests were impossible (and I'm a good test taker). Grammar is hard, and having a rigid professor while you're learning it made it harder.
Her English 3020 class dishes out asinine amounts of homework. The summer semester hasn't even been a whole week and she's already assigned over 20 quizzes! 20 QUIZZES! That's insane! In addition to that, each of the quizzes and the homework were extremely time-consuming subjects! How has she not been fired? Do not take her 3020 class! It's awful!
I took English 3040 with Shelton and she was great. It was an online class, but she still managed to make me laugh. I only wish I could've taken it in person.
I would email professor shelton at 10:30 at night asking for an assignment to open early or to request something to be fixed on canvas, and she would respond instantly. She was always super kind, and even called with me a few times. She's super caring, gives great feedback, but does have a lot of homework and extremely high expectations.
Linda was patient and flexible. I enjoy her class and will recommend her!
All A's until I took her class. She was a good teacher until she asked us to write about any controversial topic we wished. I picked a topic, submitted my paper & she gave me comments on how she didn't agree & told me not to write about this topic again. Few comments were about english writing. Afterwards, she gave me C's on everything I turned in.
This professor only cared to assign textbook reading. If you want the knowledge just buy the textbook.
I enrolled in a fast-paced summer block class, which posed some challenges. Nonetheless, Dr. Shelton's teaching was excellent. I sought assistance through the Canvas inbox, and her quick and friendly responses were incredibly valuable for an online course of this nature. I made improvement throughout the course and she helped along the way.
Love her and her classes, she was always ready to help you and was very flexible when it came to doing homework. I recommend choosing this class with her since it will be fun and also very easy to pass.
Super easy to work with and is willing to help you out if you are struggling in the class.
I loved English 1010 with Professor Shelton! She's funny, responsive, connected and gives lots of opportunities for success. She's a fair grader, though tough on her papers, but allows you to take quizzes until you get 100%. Her lessons are clear and build on each other as you're learning to write. I'd definitely recommend her.
Professor Shelton was great! This course is a bit challenging but so long as you attend class regularly and put in the work you will do well. She posts great study guides for the midterm and final though, so if you go off of those and take notes throughout the semester to study with you will learn a lot of really helpful information!
I really appreciated this class. I was worried I wouldn't be skilled enough in writing to do well in this class. She wasn't too harsh in her grading. It felt fair and she gave good feedback so that you could do better next time. I really appreciate this class and I learned a lot.
Shelton is a good professor. I took her online class, she is easy to get in contact with and was patient with all of my questions. Textbook is free and for the most part assignments were fairly easy. Some of the grading material for assignments weren't very clear and some of the links weren't working. Overall an easy class!
I cannot recommend her 3020 online class to -anyone ever-. Here is all the issues that she has. -She assigns minimum 4+ hours of homework every day. (Comparatively to other classes, she had 4 times the amount of assignments.) -Her content is extremely dated (half her content inaccessible due to age) -Finals included content that was never covered
Do not take her online 3020! Issues -4 hours every day of work/studying. -Dated and inaccessible content (Content links didn't work or had to be paid for.) -Puts content in tests that she doesn't cover leading to lost points. -Teaches grammar yet fails to apply it to her quizzes and tests. -Has 1 piece of PowerPoint content for every 5 quizzes.
This class started off well until we had to pick a controversial topic for our last two papers. She didn't like my topic and the side I was agreeing with and would grade me poorly because of the side I chose and would leave very passive aggressive comments on my papers. Lots of busy work as well.
I loved this class! Very easy yet I learned a lot. Shelton is good at teaching and made class fun. The class was very organized too which I enjoyed, so if I was ever unable to attend I could easily find what we did in class.
I love Shelton! She's got a sense of humor and makes the class fun! She has a lot of interactive activities, and she's super helpful with improving your writing. Her assignments are pretty simple, and she offers help if you need it. She has a PDF of the textbook, so you don't need to buy one for her class, which is super helpful.
Professor Shelton was excellent, not only was she so funny, but she made the class fun and easy to participate in. The class is super easy to catch up on if you fall behind (all of the work is on canvas) , and she is a great communicator and got back to me usually within the day when I would message her on canvas. I highly recommend!
Linda was honestly such a great professor! I took her English 1010 online. Her assignments weren't too difficult or time consuming. We had 3 major assignments. I struggled alot with my classes this semester, when I reached out for help she was very understanding and worked with me to get my grade up. I would highly highly recommend her!!
