Ms. Smith is the easiest teacher in the Universe. If you want an A all you have to do is study your notes. Quizzes are take home and open book. No excuse to make anything less than an A on the quizzes, tests, or the class. I love Ms. Smith.
She is horrable at preparing your for the exams. She throws you out there in la la land and expects you to know every word from the almost 60 pages of notes...then gives you like 20 short answer questions.
i agree w/last comment.it wouldnt hurt to be a lot more prepared for an exam that counts for 30% of ur grade and is nothing but short answer and essay.plus i had no idea what to write 4 paper.on the other hand she gives those in class assignments and u get a good grade long as u write everything u c
Very easy class. All tests except the exam are open book.
Ms. Smith essay test are not at all hard. She is the easiest History teacher at UAB. Just study your notes and you'll definitely get an A in the course.
This was probably the easiest class of the semester for me. You get to choose what questions you want to answer on the midterm and final. Don't buy the book. Tests strictly from notes. In class assignments very easy. Very kind with grading. Take her if you want an A.
Ms. Smith is the easiest history teacher at UAB. Her mid-term and final is very easy. I took her for both of her history classes, and made a 100 on both of my mid-terms and finals. Her quizzes are take home and open book so no need to get anythig less than a A.
The only A I got this semester. Thank GOD for her! Anyone who didn't make an A either never went to class/never bothered to take notes/never read their notes. You can read over your notes once and be totally prepared for the exam. I made 100 on all of the tests having partied the night before.
She was very easy. Don't by the book. Take good notes and you have the exam. Go to class and you should be fine.
very entusiastic
Great teacher, easy to learn from, knows her material. Tests are easy, just study your notes. You shouldnt have trouble getting an A in this class if you go and take notes. She doesnt test from the book, only her notes. Sometimes tells what is on the test also.
This is a great teacher. she tells you when you get notes what will be on the exams and all you have to do is go to class and take notes and you are set. You dont really need the book but you have to have it for some in class assignments so you need to buy it. plus you watch several vidoes.
Easiest History Class I have ever taken, even easier than High School. Take notes show up for class and thats all you need to do. I made 100's on both mid-term and final without studying.
She is very easy!! If you have a friend in her class you can miss a few classes and still be on track. She is nice. She only gives notes, a midterm and final. she also gives writing assignment but they are not hard at all. I wouldd reccomend her to anyone.
a midterm, a final, a paper, a separate book to read with a quiz, and about 8 writing assignments. the class is easy. she lectures kind of quickly. make a friend and share notes. interesting lectures, too.
The midterm was pretty rough because I didn't know what to expect. All in all, she was a wonderful teacher and I learned a lot. It's just so difficult to stay awake in early morning classes! Go to class and you will do fine. Grade:A
She is the nicest and easiest teacher you could ever have. Those off days were the stuff too!
her test had some of the most random stuff on it and the exams were outta left field. but i guess i could have read the syllabus to read over the material in the text book but she had the wrong pages in there and never changed them
I never thought a history class would be so interesing , but she really made it a cool class.
she is so easy but takes alot of notes
Great teacher..you can learn a lot and make good grades at the same time.
Study for the midterm and final. Since the whole class period is taking notes, I felt like I knew it and didn't need to study that hard. That was stupid of me. But grading on homework assignments and papers are very lenient. go to class, take good notes, and study them.
I didn't learn anything in this class. Very boring. About 1/4 of the final was about a movie, Amistad. Not incredibly relevant.
This class is really easy. You'd have to completely not show up ever to fail this class. There are only two tests a semester and they are relatively easy. She also gives out class assignments which are easy as well. I only studied an hour for the midterm and got an A. Also she gives you a lot of days out of class too.
Shes great. Doesn't use the book just her notes for test. Shes really helpful and will work for you if you miss class. She also grades easy. I got an A on all the assignments with no problem.
Very easy. The study days are awesome too. Take her!!
Ms. Smith is a great teacher. She's really easy but she makes it interesting. I highly reccomend her!
Ms. Smith's test come STRAIGHT from her notes. As long as you go to class and take notes and study your notes, it's easy! Also, the class assignments are easy!
She is an easy and laid back teacher. She even gives us "assignment days" were we dont have to come to class! However notes are important so dont get to relaxed. The homework is great because it is easy (although tedious) points. She will tell you the main points that will be on the test. Study your notes well and you should do well.
She is a very good teacher. She will compromise if you happen to miss a test or an assignment. I actually somewhat enjoyed western civ.
Really great class. Interesting and not at all overwhelming.
I enjoyed this class. Her lectures were very straight-forward & easy to follow. Very easy class, tons of days off for "assignments" & gives very clear exam review days. Take her!!
There are a lot of notes to take; however class never was longer than 30 minutes. 3 or 4 assignments due throughout the semester, mostly definitions of terms. Go to the review day before the final. Did not do too great on her 2 tests, but ended with a B.
Oh my! I love Ms. Smith! She KNOWS what she is talking about, and she makes it fun! She makes hilarious side comments throughout her lectures. Yes, there are a lot of notes, but she covers her subjects well! She only gave 2 tests, and prepared you well for them. She also gave 4 assignments that were long and tedious, but worth learning for the test
She is an extremely easy teacher. You take a midterm and a final which is straight from the notes. She also gives you four out of class assignments which you can easily make a 100 on. If you are looking for an easy class, this one is it.
Easy class with a very interesting teacher. She really knows her stuff and if you dont make at least a B out of this class then it is definitely your own fault.
I liked her a lot as well as her class. I hate history, but she made it interesting. There were a few "history lab" assignments, but nothing unbearable. Only 2 tests, 100 questions each. Good overall. Take her.
She is a great teacher, even if you don't like history very much she makes the class interesting. I suggest you take her if you need a history class.
Professor Smith has a way of speaking that makes her lectures interesting. Her tests are relatively easy if you pay attention in class. She doesn't really use the textbook. Homework assignments are online and you need the book for those, but you can get the online version of the text and do just fine.
Gives long boring lectures and has an annoying raspy voice. Be prepared to write 5-6 pages of notes for each lecture.
Interesting in her lectures gives you all the facts,a lot of writing. She gives not study guide for her test all on notes. Test are very broad you must study the notes.
Very good at lectures. Not boring, and yes you'll take notes, but she repeats if needed and slows down for you if you need her to. She wants to make sure you get what you need. Tests are broad, but it's all from notes. Just listen and you'll be fine...and in her class it's really not that hard!!! Loved her.
Ms. Smith was my favorite teacher this semester. She made History interesting and gave a fairly simple mid-term and final. It was nice to have those days off for assignments due the next week. This was my favorite class this semester and I recommend her to anyone taking History 121. You will take many notes, but it will be worth it. Knows her HY!
I loved having Ms. Smith as a teacher! She is really great at giving lectures (she tells you what is important, is funny, very smart). Gives a lot of study days and a lot of videos! We only had a midterm and a final, with homework grades. She doesn't require attendance, but everyday she gives like 5 pages of notes, so attendance is important.
Very good class. She is a good instructor. She makes it interesting and relevant. Good course.
you do not need a textbook for this class but be prepared to listen in lectures. her test questions come directly from her notes. i personally just thought she was rude but as an instructor she told you what you needed to know and realizes this is a CORE CLASS
Great teacher! I have taken her for HY 101, and plan on taking all of my core history classes with her. She talks the entire time and as long as you take good notes and study them you will do fine. I would recommend her to anyone. If you miss a class be sure to get the notes because she covers a lot in that short time.
Fantastic professor! Book is not necessary. This semester she used my history lab but instructed us to buy access straight from Pearson which saved us all $60! Don't miss a class because she gives a TON of notes and bring your laptop so you can keep up with how fast she gives them. Great, understanding professor who doesn't want to waste your time!
I love Mrs.Smith! Her class is not boring at all, she interacts with everyone, very sweet and helpful. You do not need the book. But I would bring a lap top to class to take notes! Her lectures very informative, and her test are easy to study for. I highly suggest her!
She was awesome
Her tests are directly from her notes. If you want to make an A go to class and take notes. Her notes are very basic and easy to follow. The online assignments are pretty hard but she gives plenty of bonus opportunities. Linda Smith makes history fun.
She is an awesome teacher. I hated history but she made it tolerable. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!!! Just wait til class and she will show you how to just buy the online code so you can do the assignments!!
She is great. Straight forward from notes.
IF you attend UAB and planning on taking history 120 or 121, PLEASE take Ms. Linda Smith. Her class is easy! Attendance is mandatory, she checks row everyday unless on study days. Her tests are based off her lectures. She gives you EVERYTHING you need for the test. RECORD HER LECTURES! Also she gives Extra credit. She's awesome! Nothing bad to say
Professor Smith is very nice, but this was a very challenging class. I've taken upper level history courses that were easier than this 101 class. Her tests weren't terrible. But the online homework tests that she doesn't write are killers. Take lots of notes! Ask for help! Study a ton! Take another professor if possible bc this isn't easy.
I really hated the way Ms. Smith ran her lectures. She just stands at the front and talks. She writes nothing down and uses no visual aid. Taking notes is a nightmare, a laptop is a necessity if you can type faster than you write. Also, her homework was terrible. It was not relevant to the lectures at all and was EXTREMELY difficult.
She gives verbal lecture notes, so class attendance is essential. As long as you write everything she says and study it, you will pass the class. The tests are directly from what she says. If you watch a video in class, she will ask you questions about the video, on the test. Very simple. Just study and attend class.
The lectures are her tests so be there to take notes on the lectures. Personally, she talks at a pace where you can take clear notes.
She didn't go into detail on most topics, and she doesn't go in order. The only problem I had was she talked too fast for notes, and I'm a fast typer. Almost everything she said was on the test. She curves tests. The study guide is the key terms we discuss in class. Doesn't follow the book. The book is used for the online homework. Have to buy code
You should attend class, because all of her exams are primarily based on what she says in her lecture, and reading the book will not help. There are online assignments that count 25% of your final grade, so do them! She's nice, but speaks quickly, so write/type fast. She will repeat herself if asked. Not a hard class if you attend lectures/study.
Listen to every word that she says and write it down to study later. Every question on the test is directly from her lectures not the textbook. If you watch a movie, then expect there to be questions on the test. Do not buy the textbook from the bookstore, you can get the ebook version through a website she will give you for $60 cheaper.
I actually enjoy this class. Her lectures are LITERALLY the test so pay close , and write every word.
Loved to go to class to listen to lecture. Was very good and gives you everything you need for the test.
Exams straight from the lecture, you have to write down everything she says. Very difficult because she goes fast. Makes us watch very long videos with questions that will be on the exams. No visual representation, she juts talks at the front. Would not recommend.
Definitely take your laptop to class if you have one and can type fast. Exams come mostly from lectures (no powerpoints, just her talking), but all the homework comes from the book so make sure you read if you want to pass those assignments. Not the easiest class I've ever taken but an A is definitely more than doable with a little effort.
She is an ok teacher. Be sure to go to class everyday to get the word list. There are only 3 test in the class and the 3rd test is the final only and on that section. The history labs can be fund on quizlet so those are easy A's! He test are going to be based on what she says in class and not on the lab assignments. Test are about 50 questions.
Each class she provides a word list that she will lecture off of. She makes connections between history and life now. She is passionate about the material and allows for extra credit.
Large class size and very simple. There are 3 tests based solely on what she says during lecture, and some online homework assignments that use the book. Don't buy the physical book, you can get the etext and access code online for cheaper.
Be prepared to write. She structures her classroom between her just talking, and history channel movies. She gives no study guide, just key words to guide you. If she sees you trying to do well, she will help you by giving extra credit.
She does not go over the material required for the history labs, only for the tests that she gives. She drones on and on during lectures. She is not easy to access when you need a question answered
Wonderful lady. Lectures aren't TOO boring. Has somewhat of a monotone voice but very kind and very caring and understanding
She wastes time at the beginning of class to allow you to copy the list of terms she will go over that day, lectures off of what she knows and has given the wrong dates a few times. She jumps around from subject to subject and mentions things that no one really knows about. 3 tests, 4 homeworks
Be prepared for notes but those notes will help you pass the tests if you pay attention. The test is only on notes and sometimes videos. We never use the book but you do need an access code for MyHistoryLab, because those assignments really help your grade. She goes slower in lectures but that is a good thing, more time to copy down lectures.
Took US History in high school? This is for sure a good class to take. The content is essentially the same. It's a simple and straight forward class with only 3 fairly easy tests (if you study). As far as Prof. Smith, she does her job well and offers several worthwhile extra credit opportunities. Just go to class, listen, and take diligent notes.
Drones quite a lot during her lectures, do not buy the textbook, as you can get an e-book for much cheaper. If there's a video shown in class, be prepared to see it on the test.
pretty good overall. I made B's on almost every test but still passed w an A.
Great professor. No slides to go off of so everything is written from what she says. Therefore, you miss class won't pass unless you can get notes from a friend. Very nice and understanding though!!
roll is passed but attendance does not directly affect your grade. sweet professor, very understanding. not many assignments and are relatively easy. every class is a lecture with her just talking at you with no slides or anything.
Very nice lady! Lectures everyday, no daily assignments, revel assignments a month, 1day designated for completing assignment(class not mandatory this day) also class not mandatory on day before the test, but GO! To study w/class . Doesn't use book in class, but revel assignments come from the book (assignments on quiz let) test from notes/ videos
Very easy class, but make sure you do well on exams (75% of grade). Not very organized. She talks quickly, with no visual aid, so make sure you record the lecture or write down everything she says. Just study a couple hours the night before each exam, and go to class, and it's an easy A.
Great professor. Take good notes and you'll do fine.
This was an amazing course. the start of each unit she would give a list of words & then lecture around them. I made a quizlet based on the terms & just studied that & aced the tests. we watched a movie for a few classes. Tip though - take notes on a PC bc she lectures quickly. Easy tests. HW is online. Tested just on lectures though. interesting!!
She is very nice and willing to explain things in depth if you have questions. Class is all lecture based meaning if you missed class the notes will not be accessible online. Attendance was taken each class and extra credit is offered.
If you don't attend class, you have no way of getting the information. Most people fail the tests if you don't take it seriously and remember the details. She is not the kind of professor to just tell you test answers
She was amazing! This class is so easy, all you have to do is take good notes in lectures in order to do good on the test. She explains everything to you and if you have a question, she will answer it. She goes a little fast but all you have to tell her is to slow down and she would try her best. I don't like history, but I loved this class.
Mrs. Smith really has a passion for History and teaching her students. She gives a list of words at the beginning of each note section that she will test on and you need to take notes based on those words. Her grades are Revel Quizzes (online, can use your online book, easy) and her tests. It is an interesting and easy course with minimal effort.
On the week of the test, you can pick what day you want to take it on. Gives a lot of study days. Attendance can bump you up if youre on the verge! Can find answers for the quizzes on quizlet. However, the test questions come from lectures
can't say i enjoyed this class at all. tests were ridiculous. no powerpoint, u just take notes on what she says and pray that it is actually on the test. no matter how much you study, you won't make an A on the test because her lectures and tests are completely different. she does give bonus points for each test, which sorta makes up for it though
Not many grades but such a good professor. show up to class because all the test questions are from her lecture. take good notes though. tests are super easy if you just read the notes you took a couple times and they're multiple choice (she also gives out a ton of bonus points) super nice lady and highly recommend
If you don't show up to class you won't do good on the tests because ALL the notes you get are from her lectures. This is a class you actually have to study and try in
There are no powerpoints only lectures. You have multiple quizzes and like 3 tests. She gives you a topics list each chapter and lectures on it. However, not every topic on the topic list is on the tests. Multiple questions on the tests were never discussed in class. Good luck making a 100. If you fall asleep in class you will be marked absent.
There are no powerpoints for her lectures, so you really have to take notes on everything she says. If you miss class, you lose a ton of key terms that will be on the test. The test is worded exactly how she says it in class though so as long as you study your notes you'll be fine.
If you're someone who needs a powerpoint or many assignments to do well in a class I wouldn't recommend taking her class. We only had 3 exams and a couple of quizzes. Every test is based off what she teaches in class, so if you don't show up you wont pass. She did give extra credit at the end though. Just show up, take good notes and you'll pass.
As a history major who is very passionate about the subject and has learned a lot of the same material before taking the course, no class has been as soul crushing for me as Mrs. Smiths HY 102. She makes no effort to engage students in lectures and is clearly not at all passionate about what shes doing. History can be fun, but not in this class.
I got into a bad car wreck the semester I was taking this class and had to miss a lot of class time. She straight up did not care and told me things were still due online. I ended up dropping this class because she would not work with me at all. Participation was also a grade
I took her for HY120 and I definitely WOULDN'T recommend her class. For one there's no powerpoints so you have to take notes as she speaks ( it's fast). I bought the book for this class too and literally never used it because it wasn't really relevant to what we were doing in class. The homework is easy if you search it up but the tests are hard.
This class was super easy and clearly structured. The lectures are interesting and she goes slow enough that you have plenty of time to copy down all the notes, and the tests are EXACTLY the notes. Just show up, pay attention, take notes, and study the notes and it's an easy A.
Only have a few grades for the class which rely heavily on exams, but she gives multiple extra credit options and lots of review opportunities. She gives the class word lists to take notes on in the lecture and most test material comes from them. She is extremely understanding and tries her best to add crash Course and other fun videos as well.
She's great. I have her during the all online stuff and she has taken it well. She goes over the key words list and tells you what you need to know with a little bit of filler then you go and take the exam and that's that. She will admit when she has made a mistake grading something which is very nice. Recommend as a filler course!
I will say she is a very sweet lady, and if you email her she will respond in a few hours. But her class is difficult because it's full-on lectures where she goes really fast, and then you have her test which has a short-timer. She gives extra credit but only gives 60 seconds for a 3 question quiz. You need to take good note to pass this class
She talks super fast and you have to take notes as she talks. No slideshows or anything.
Great professor! She lectures around her list of words and her test come straight from her lectures. You have to watch and take notes or you will not pass. I have always hated any type of history, but she made it interesting. I would def take her again.
Definitely recommend! Each week she gives a word list and lectures off of those words. The zoom calls were also recorded so if you missed one you can go back and watch it later. She also has bonus opportunities. Just take lecture notes, Watch videos she uploads, complete revel assignments (answers can be found online) and thats it. Overall, Easy A.
There's a few quizzes and some extra credit opportunities, but the tests are so hard and will make or break your grade. You can understand all the material and still fail the exam so I wouldn't recommend taking this class with Professor Smith. Not a bad class but overall, the exams were unnecessarily hard and rushed.
The class itself was not that bad, she adds videos from YouTube and other recourses that have nothing to do with the test so the module tabs were a little over crowded, so be sure to click over each individual tab to make sure you're not missing any lectures. Very disorganized though.
Smith's lectures are non-stop note taking, but her exams are quite easy if you study. Although her lectures can be tiring, the class is very interesting and she makes it easy to understand. Show up, take notes, study the key word list, and you will do great! She is very nice and I would definitely choose her as a teacher.
WORST MISTAKE EVER! If you are passionate about history, you will be fine. But if you are like me and taking this as a major requirement, it's not worth it. Grade is 75% exams and only 25% online work. 2+ hours a week watching disorganized lectures. She gives some bonus but the average test grade is mid 70's at best.
She gives very little assignments, 2 quizzes maybe every other week and 4 test for entire semester. Test are fairly easy is you are familiar with the information. The test are lockdown browser. Gives bonus opportunities each week you have a quiz. Total of about 8-10 assignments.
shes super sweet and tests are super easy if you study! shes really clear about what will be the on the test as well. 10/10!
Weekly lectures/videos, 3 exams (lockdown w/camera), 5 Revel assignments, and 6 small bonuses. Take good lecture notes, study, and you'll do fine. My only complaint is I felt like we didn't cover some questions on the exams, but others did better so maybe I'm just dumb. She wants you to succeed, is enjoyable, and is easy to reach. Same as HY102.

I absolutely loved taking this class. Her lectures are always interesting, she provides additional resources, is extremely helpful if you have questions, and is all-around a wonderful professor. Some weeks there is more material to review, but if you watch the lectures and take notes, you'll do just fine. She is always available if you need help.
I had Professor Smith for HY101 and history was amazing in her class. Class is very lecture heavy and I loved her lectures. Would recommend studying week in advance if you want to do good. Taught from a word list and would go in depth. Does offer bonus opportunities. I would 100% take her again because her class was amazing. DO NOT SKIP HER CLASS.
Very lecture heavy. The tests are unnecessarily hard and specific and it will hurt your grade. I do no recommend this class, especially online.
Her exams (at least for the online section) have some incredibly specific (& pointless) questions without a reasonable best answer. You can spend hours on hours studying for the exams and still not get an A (all questions are mcq & 2 points each) Not to mention the exams are worth 75% of your grade.... Don't take this class, not worth the headache.
This class was extremely disorganized and difficult to follow. You could take notes on every single lecture, get to the exam be confused. Do not take this class!
This course was extremely disorganized and the exams made up 75% of your grade with little to no other assignments. The teacher also said ''I think" in her lectures leading me to have to fact-check her. I had to seek outside help in lectures. The tests were specific to the point where there was no one clear answer. I do not recommend this course.
The class was so easy. The class is mostly 1-2 quizzes every other week and we had 3 exams. With it being not so many assignments, you do have to do good on the exams or you will not pass the class with a decent grade. Overall, it was an easy A.
Sweet lady but cannot stay on a topic or present a lecture in a linear and clear fashion for the life of her. You will have to go back and forth and back and forth in your notes from topic to topic and its very frustrating. She never gives enough information and if she does its irrelevant and won't be in your notes or on the exams. Time to retire.
Exams include material not in the lecture. 3 exams worth 75% of your grade. Had to pay for a movie to write a paper on and she deducted points for a high plagiarism score even though the high score came from my CITED SOURCES. Good luck 😵‍💫
