She doesn't speek very good english, hard to understand, doesn't explain what she writes.
She does not speak good english and never explains anything that she is writing on the board. On the test they are usually never any problems from the books. They are usually little parts of the problems which you don't cover hardly at all in class. Switch to a different class if at all possible.
I wasn't too thrilled about taking College Algebra but I think it could have been worse. Sometimes assignments weren't explained clearly during class time but Linda made herself availible at anytime a student needed her help. If you attend and try, she'll reward you with bonus points. If you need help, ask....
I was taking this teacher at OTC, I had an A in 050 and she made me feel completely DUMB! I would not recommed this teacher to anyone---Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! I attended class everytime and was still completely lost by her teaching style! :(
Decent teacher, pretty hard to understand. Make sure you do your homework because it is worth 1 test grade total. I had an A on the tests, but a D on homework so I got a B. She isnt too bad, she tries. Just be patient and do the homework and you will be fine. You might want to try and get a different teacher though.
Understanding her isn't the issue, but she rushes through her lecture because she assigns quizzes every day, so there is very little time to learn the new material.
Many people think that her accent is the problem but it is not. I did have a problem understanding her at all. The problem that i had was her coming down to my level. She cannot explain anything at all on a level that is below hers. And since the class is very fast paced it makes it near impossible to keep up.
At first this teacher was hard to understand, get over it. I think she is a great teacher, and if you have questions, it is your responsibility to ask. She answers any questions at the begining of class. You get a lot of homework, but its not that bad, and you have a lot of quizes but they are small and helpful. i definitely recomend this teacher!
Needs to learn how to speak better english.
She will scare you at first, but she definetely grows on you. If you attend class and do your homework, you will get a good grade. She is not the greatest teacher, so if you have another option, you may want to take that.
Worst teacher at Missouri State I have ever had. She's not hard to understand but she grades so ridiculously hard. She's terrible at explaining stuff and assumes we know what we are doing. DO NOT TAKE. I was one of those people who thought, "Oh I'll be alright, I have a 3.2" Now because of her I have to get an 85 on the final to just get a C.
So sweet!
Though the her accent can be a problem at times, she is really a sweet teacher who is enthusiastic about what she is teaching and really wants everyone to succeed. If you struggle in this class, you either aren't very good at math or don't apply effort, because the homework is simple, quizzes are easy, and tests have study guides.
Great teacher in the respect that she gives you the class notes and examples she is going to go over everyday. hard to understand. not very good at teaching the subject. however its just a college algebra class so if you know the information you'll do good on her tests which are easy and exactly like her notes
She is difficult to understand. She rushes through her lessons and everyone is left hanging with questions. Almost all homework is online. The homework is usually not what you worked on in class. She seemed very derogatory when I went and asked for extra help. Was not flexible with study sessions at all.
Very Hard to understand, and moves to fast
Great Teacher just make sure to show up everyday and do the homework.
She expains concepts very quickly and is often difficult to understand. Also, she assigns a lot of homework from both the textbook and online evey night.
"The student who does not come to my class does not pass my class" "The student who does not take note in my class does not pass my class"
She taught very quickly and assumed her students understood the material. She assigned book homework every day along with online homework, as well as a quiz everyday in class. So obviously, attendance is mandatory. The work is not hard but her tests are difficult and it's almost like she expects you to do bad on them.
Once you get over her accent she is easy to understand. Attend the class and do the homework and you will be fine. If you have any problems she is really helpful during her office hours. Easy A if you do the work.
She is very hard to understand, she assigns a ton of homework in the book and online everynight. She also has quizes every day. If you attend class every day it isnt very hard but I baisicaly taught myself the material with the online homework. I would not recomend her as a teacher for this course if you are not strong in math.
Very sweet lady and a lot of bonus opportunity, but it's hard! Don't take it if you didn't take it in high school!
I HATED math in high school. This is the first math class I took in college and I loved it. Dr. Sun explained things in a a way that I could understand!! Her accent is thick, however, you get used to it after a while. overall a WONDERFUL professor!!!!
This class was a struggle and I did very well in math in high school. She is hard to listen to, talks about things that are irrelevant to math, and is no help when you stay after class. Avoid her for this class.
this is the worst teacher ever way to high of a work load quiz everyday if you miss your done rushes through material doesn't attempt to help people understand the material just states it and expects complete knowledge on top of that she is rude joked about making girl cry in her office during class talks constantly about why your gonna fail.
Where to start... she is the worst professor I have ever had. She rambles about stuff irrelevant to math and then rushes through the lesson as if everyone already knows the information. She's hard to understand and there are quizzes everyday... If I can pass this class, lets just say it'll be something short of a miracle. You've been warned.
I thought she was sweet at first but that's just because I knew the material. Once I had to learn something new I realised she doesn't know how to teach. The notes are confusing and no matter how much she tells you to, she gets upset when you don't understand something. She is rude and I have to learn on my own. Worst teacher I have EVER had.
Tough professor and tough class, but she provides a ton of feedback and extra help for any student who wants it.
This class is tough, but if you show up, take notes and do homework, you should have no problem receiving a good grade. Yes, she doesn't put up with student's poor excuses/laziness, but she does put in so much work towards helping her students outside the classroom. She is very sweet and only wants her students to succeed.
Ms. Sun could be confusing at times (partly because of her accent), but you could tell she had a genuine interest in helping her students. If you show up to class, take notes, and do the homework, you will be fine. If you don't show up to this class regularly you will not pass it.
This class is very hard, but she is a very helpful professor. You have a quiz at the end of each class over information you learned prior to that class, which can be good for your grade or hurt it! With her accent she is at times hard to understand. She is very hard on her students and sometimes intimidating when asking a question.
Professor Sun's class wasn't necessarily easy but the way she teaches is really effective. She gives quizzes each class over the previous nights homework which really helps you retain the information. When she hands quizzes and tests back she hands the key back so you can learn from your mistakes. Her accent can be confusing at times.
Dr. Sun is a really nice teacher, she honestly cares if you understand the material or not. She has study sessions every single Thursday starting on week one. Her accent really isn't bad at all. Pay attention. Don't fall asleep. Go to study sessions. You'll be golden.
Professor Sun was a good teacher but she is a little hard to understand at first. She gives a lot of assignments but is always there for extra help. If you really want to learn the material you should take her class.
Linda Sun was extremely helpful and accessible. Students who say otherwise did not take time to attend her extra help sessions office hours. Her class notes are structured well. She gives testsquizzes back WITH an answer key for feedback. Her accent may be hard to understand for some, but if you can get over that, I'd highly recommend taking.
Linda Sun is an overall great and funny person. She gives quizzes everyday after class which in my opinion are extremely helpful to pass the tests later on. There is an online and a book assignment after every single class. It is a lot of extra outside work. Her accent can be difficult to understand at first but you will get used to it.
Probably the worst math class I have taken! She doesn't teach you anything just writes it in clads and expects you to figure it out. Gives quizes everyday even if class is over. If u ask questions in class she gets mad and frustrated with you because you are prolongin her lecture time. Highly suggest not having her as your teacher.
Professor Sun is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is disrespectful to students,is hard to understand and gives quizzes after class is over. She also doesn't like question,if you want something from her you better put aside part of your day to go see her in her office.
She may call you out if you are dumb. And if you like being told that you are going to fail the course repeatedly for weeks then she is the professor for you.
Linda may be difficult to understand at first, but that will make you pay attention to her even more. She expects you to show up to class every day and she takes attendance. If you do show up every day, she will add 2% to your final grade. I've taken this class 3 previous times with different professors and I should have taken her from day one!
She's not a HORRIBLE teacher. However, she is from China so its hard to understand her sometimes. She speeds through the class lectures and gives a quiz from the previous lecture. She also give extra help sessions but she doesn't really help you. If you have a question she will tell you to look in your notes. She complains about other classes ALOT
Professor Sun was exceedingly helpful and would provide numerous opportunities to become familiar with the material. She gave written and online homework, which meant that I didn't need to study outside of that. Because so much material is covered throughout the class be prepared to pay attention in class.
Not the easiest class in the world, but I felt that was more the subject than the teacher. If you have a hard time understanding Chinese accents you may want to take someone else. She gives extra credit on every test
She really works with you to make sure you're not falling behind. She shows you many different ways to do a problem so that you will find a way that works best for you. She is by far one of my favorite professors. Her tests are straight forward based off of the homework so you know exactly what will be on them.
The worst thing is she assigned textbook homework AND online homework for every. single. lecture. I wouldn't mind one or the other, but both is too damn much. In-class tests are not terribly hard, but are impossible to finish. It was quite frustrating. Her accent itself (Cantonese) is not too bad, but she is not always clear in her lecture content.
I recommend taking her TR class, she's more lenient as far as time and capacity of the lecture. However, there is an INSANE amount of homework. She gives great printed notes. She tells you to ask questions but will be rude and tell you how many times she's repeated it. Stick to your notes &show up to lecture. Study for exams, they're 50% of grade.
Linda is a good professor, and she wants students learn better. After class, she is not as serious as in class.
would not recommend her for math 135. pushes people to ask questions and makes them feel dumb when they do ask questions. assignment sheets are unclear
Mrs. Sun is a great teacher and I would recommend her to anyone. I was worried about her accent at first but she will repeat herself if asked and will make sure the information is clear before she moves on. Her notes are great and she has extra help sessions if you need them. A good choice for college algebra.
Daily quiz and usually 1-2 hours of homework. There are 3 tests for which she provides review, then final. Turn in the review and get extra credit. Tests are out of 105-108 points because of bonus points. She has an interesting personality that's hard not to laugh at, but she talks pretty fast and has an accent.
Professor Sun was one of the toughest professors I've had at MSU. Her accent is extremely heavy and hard to understand, which sometimes interferes with her notes (a lot of typos). I'm not good at math to begin with and this class just made me struggle even more. This class is heavily based on test scores and you have written and online homework.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had! very rude, talks too fast, heavy accent, gives insane amount of homework! quizes almost every class and lots of book and online work.
The method of her teaching is very professional. The test and quizzes are very easy, just similarly with the homework. And Linda will give you note every class, it's the most important and useful part of the textbook, so you don't have to read textbook. It saves a lot of time.
Very good teacher, she knows what she is talking about. If you put in the effort and attend class, she will do everything to help you succeed. Lots of homework, but doing it helps you over all in the class.
Linda is very smart but her accent is very heavy and often interferes with comprehension. The material is not all that difficult but if you need a teacher who is very engaged and gives lots of class time to questions and explanation, this professor is not for you. She answers questions fast and makes you fell dumb for asking them sometimes.
One of the best teachers I've had at MSU. She goes fast but it helps you get all the information you need before a test. She's always available for help outside of class and I would gladly take her class again for MTH 340
Hours of homework each class. She teaches the class in a negative atmosphere. She will make you feel dumb if you ask questions. Grade is test heavy but there is a quiz at the beginning of each class. If you are slow in math and go to the extra help sessions she will remind you that you are slow and that she 'does not have time to help you.'
Strict teacher that gives a ton of homework, but explains math to be understandable and makes sense. I am not good at math and she makes it relatively easy to understand. Has a pretty heavy accent, but sit in the front row or two and its easier to understand her.
Professor Sun was exactly what the doctor ordered to pass College Algebra. She clearly explains what you need to do to be successful and it's as simple as going along for the ride. If you go to class and finish your homework you will pass with a good grade. It's as simple as that!
She is a solid teacher. She is pretty good at helping you out if you need help, has extra help sessions and is always willing to meet with you in her office. I would definitely take her again!
Linda sun is actually a very good college algebra teacher. She can be funny at times and goes off topic to talk about her home land china. She often thinks that this is the only class you are taking and expects you to show up early to class when you have tests. She is good at explaining some things but she can make you feel stupid sometimes.
This class isnt easy but if you do what she says you need to do to pass you will. If you really listen to what she says youll actually learn a lot. Ask questions.
This class stressed me out so much. Math is not an easy concept for me to grasp, and she didnt help. I could not attend her extra help sessions due to a conflicting class and she made it out like I was making excuses. I was afraid to ask questions or speak up because I felt stupid and ashamed.
I am fairly good at math and taking this course with her was not what i expected. she was hard to understand and was excessive with homework and quizzes every day. Also she would just read the examples and wouldn't work out the problems to show a visual. Do not recommend taking this professor
Professor Sun has a pretty heavy accent, but you get used to it over time. She encourages you to ask questions in class, but occasionally misunderstands your question or can make you feel stupid. She assigns a lot of homework, but you usually get 3-5 tries on each question. Pretty average for a math prof/class. If I can pull an A, so can you.
The worst teacher I ever had! Even if you ask questions she will not help you and makes you look stupid. There are open note quizzes every class but they are still so hard. She explains things in the most complicated ways and grades so hard on everything. Do NOT take her.
If you show you care, she cares and will help you out. Lots of homework, but doing it helps . She gives printed notes every class! She's a pretty normal math professor, just be ready for some nagging about attendance. I'm awful at math so trust me when I say this class is better than others.
This instructor explains things in a very difficult way to understand instead of doing it the easy way. She also doesnt explain why she does something. She encourages students to ask questions and then acts like youre stupid instead of answering. She gets very upset when students dont show up & wastes the first 10 mins of class talking about it
Professor Sun is seriously the best math instructor I have ever had. She is very hard on you, but really wants all her students to succeed. The class is no joke and pretty tough, but as long as you stay focused and show up, you will do alright. She is very good about giving feedback and is happy to help her students. She's also pretty funny!
Professor Sun is a good professor. She does provide a lot of homework from the book and online but it's for the best. She is always in her office hours and she provides extra help sessions every Thursday.
Professor Sun explained the material very well. I liked her sense of humor too. There is a lot of homework, but you'll do fine in the class if you do all of it.
She gave me the worst experience in college and I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend her. Many times she would lecture us how we were not good enough and we need to drop out. I even would go to tutoring and asked her for help, she said to me, "I don't know how you got into my class." I was also in the hospital and she refused to take my day late homework.
Professor Sun is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She moved her class to zoom due to covid and that only makes it worse. She is difficult to understand, you are unable to read her handwriting. And worst of all, she does not explain the process. She does one practice problem and by that expects you to know whats going on. 100% DO NOT TAKE!
Hard to understand, cannot pronounce certain words. Goes too fast and does not explain why we do certain things. She actually hardly ever explains, she just does and we copy the notes. Homework and quiz 3x a week. Sends the notes for you to print off like an hour before class.
She is a very great professor, but it can be kinda challenging talking to her outside of class because she doesn't always understand what you're saying. I had to get her to give me extra time on a test because of my disability, but she had no idea how to do any of that, and she didn't believe that should be allowed.
DO NOT RECOMMEND Linda Sun is very confusing to understand. She does not answer homework questions in detail (just a few word email). She does not fix online grading errors made by Pearson. Tests are not like study guides. She does not give extra credit. She will not round your grade. Good luck :)
DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE WITH LINDA SUN. This is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I taught every single lesson to myself throughout the entire year. You can barely understand her speaking because she can hardly speak English. Her "help" for homework is "look at the notes" (which are horribly written). Overall, she is a horrible teacher.
TAKE THIS CLASS SOMEWHERE ELSE. If you have a question she makes you feel like an idiot. She says literally everything should be review like we should already know it. If she is doing the class on zoom you cannot read her handwriting and she is very hard to understand. Finally the week of our final my grade was dropped 6% due to her having it wrong
I really enjoyed having her as a professor. Sometimes she went a little fast or didn't have a very clear example, but she was very helpful when a student asked a question and explained things in many different ways. There were homework and quiz assignments after almost every class, but they were very helpful.
Homework & quiz assigned for every class period. There were times when I got the first part of a problem off by 1 decimal place & she counted the entire problem wrong even tho I did the rest of it right. Tough grader, not lenient, LOTS of hw. Would assign us random Blackboard quizzes on top of everything without warning. She's nice, but tough.
Professor Sun is the most insensitive frustrating math teacher Ive ever had the displeasure of having. She spends so much time in class nagging about students who are not in the zoom and dont take the tests. I do not care about these students to be quite frank. She focuses time in class complaining about students who arent even there.
Worst teacher I have ever had. She spends lots of the class almost trying to be intimidating saying how students are not here means they will not pass her class. She also spends way too much time on how not to do problems which is very confusing. 6 quizzes given a week plus online homework and random paper homework occasionally.
Professor Sun clearly knows her subject matter very well, but she is not good at explaining it to non-math brained people. If you aren't already good at math, then you will struggle. She pretty much reads from her notes for her lectures. When asked for extra help, she says to read the textbook before coming to her.
She expects people to be there every day but she seems disappointed instead of angry. She gives lots homework but its worth a very low percent of your grade so you can practice the material. If you hear how she talks in classes responses to questions dont come out as rude but misunderstanding. I appreciated her teaching style it kept me in line.
Do not take this Prof Sun unless you are great at math and can learn on your own. Very tough grader will take off points for the slightest things. She is very smart but cannot teach it in simple terms. Teaches directly from the notes. If you want above a C/D in this class, you will have to go to tutoring every day.
She is a tough grader and very strict, but it works out. She's a little blunt but pretty good at explaining the concepts and is open to feedback on ways to remember things. Overall average.
Linda Sun was the most inspirational professor I have ever had the opportunity of learning from. 10/10 experience. She made many jokes throughout the lesson whether they are suppose to be interpreted as jokes is unknown to me. I love Linda Sun, LIVE LAUGH LOVE LINDA.
She barely speaks English. She talks very quietly as well. She does however explain the lectures pretty good. She says she is open for questions but when you ask her she doesn't really clear up your problems. When she grades, she counts off even the smallest mistakes. Be ready to take a lot of quizzes (one each class) and a lot of homework.
Good professor, be aware that there are quizzes at the end of almost every class. If you don't have strong previous knowledge on math, this class will be hard. Sometimes she lectures super quick so I would have to review material on my own time. Attend every class, or you will fall behind quickly!
she is wonderful at explaining things in class. Homework every night, and a quiz every class. if you don't show up, you'll fall behind. She will do her best to help you. No extra credit, the 4 tests make up almost your whole grade so go to class and do the homework or you will fail. She replaces your lowset score with your final.
I actually really loved this class (Precalculus). She does go fast but will go back and explain when asked. There is a lot of homework, but most don't take that long and actually help you get a better understanding of the material. Attendance is definitely mandatory, you go over a lot in a class period.
I had to drop this class after the first two weeks because this class was too much for me. She bragged about students failing/dropping her class, and actively encouraged us to drop. She is difficult to understand, rushes through concepts, and has tests literally every week. Also, this class does not pick up where MTH 101 left off!!
Professor Sun is dedicated to her student's success. As long as you go to class and do your online assignments, you will pass. She will respond to emails quickly and is super helpful. A good thing about her class is that there is so much work that you could fail multiple quizzes and online assignments and your grade won't be affected.
Rude & passive aggressive, will actually tell people to drop out, complains about students daily. Will indirectly call you unintelligent if you ask for help. Seems to enjoy it when people drop her class, will tell the class why you are gone if you miss class. Accuses people of cheating with no proof, if you have poor mental health avoid this lady.
If you want to take a class that has tests worth your entire grade on material the teacher never taught, then this is the class for you! Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. The teacher's lectures were difficult to understand, and she never reviewed any of the material. I had to teach myself everything.
You will have 3+ online homework and quiz assignments weekly while also taking in class quizzes. Grading on all the in person quizzes is very tough and doesn't tell you where you went wrong. Online quizzes are nothing like the assignments. She also spends half the class telling you to take notes and show up to the class. Get a different teacher!!!
I'm not sure why Dr. Sun doesn't have a better rating, she is phenomenal. She's tough on her students, but not harsh. The amount of extra work she puts in to ensure that her students succeed is astounding. If you're worried about doing well in math, Dr. Sun is the right professor for you. She's also very accessible and available outside of class.
She spends about 5 minutes every class talking about the absent students in class. She has no sympathy at all. If you don't do your work, that's on you and you just missed out on a lot of points. She's just mean. She always talks about how her classes are doing so much worse after the pandemic and blames it on the laziness of the students.
Professor Sun seems like she takes pride in failing those who are "unfit" for the class. There is a slight language barrier so either sometimes YOU can't understand her or she won't understand you. If you ask a question, either she'll just point to the board and say "it's easy" or she'll explain something else. She's also a board blocker.
Just a terrible professor
Professor Sun's class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of homework and in-class quizzes, so staying on top of the material is crucial. Attend every class and use unstuckstudy for extra practice - it really helped me grasp the concepts.
Worst teacher I have ever had
Horrible experience. Told us most of us were going to struggle or fail the class. Seems to take pride in students struggling. Theres a bit of a language barrier and she goes really fast with 1 example per concept. Stands in front of previous examples blocking view. I switched to a different professor.
Linda is passable, if a C is what you're going for, and willing to put in hours of studying. Homework after every class, lessons are short, minimal examples and explanations, textbook was essential. In-class, graded quizzes during every class, moderately hard. Tests are possible, but difficult. Unnecessarily difficult class. Switch to Fan Zhou.
