Open book, note tests. Some classes she grades homework. Somewhat timorous.
Good Teacher, somewhat hard tests, doesn't round up on grades. 89.9 = B+
Very hard tests, tough grader, good luck
Good teacher, explaines well. Open book open notes tests (doesn't help)
Good teacher, 3 hard tests, doesn't drop any test, open book and notes, no HW
I'm not in 2nd grade, so stop talking like that!
valdes teaches really well, so you can understand. as long as you come to lecture, you will be fine. Her tests, well, are medium difficultly, but she is at times unreasonable with partial credit. no drops, goes by the standard percentage level.
She makes the difficult subjects very easy to learn. Tests are medium, but no partial credit (if you forget a negative sign you can drop a full letter grade on tests). Homework is not too hard, time consuming.
Best teacher at SJSU for math! She lets you have book, solution manual, practice or previous exams, and any notes you want on the test!! What other math teach do you know who allows that!!!!
She is a great teacher! Her tests can be a little challenging, but her lectures are very organized and clear and makes it easier. I definitely recommend this teacher.
Excellent professor, i have to recommend this professor to anyone take a math course, she has very good visual aids to help you learn, she also lets you use notes etc. on exams. Great!!!
Damn, all I gotta say is that open notes open book doesnt mean the test is going to be easy. She's a great teacher, knows how to teach the subject, do your HW too it helps. You better come prepared for the tests.
great teacher! keep up with her lectures and do all homework that is allowed on the test.
Good teacher, explains the subject well and shows that she cares about the subject matter. Very stern about the grading; she takes off for careless mistakes-no partial credit. Does not like engineering majors, so don't let her know if you are.
I had her before for Calc 3, but unlike that class, she did not provide any practice exams or homework to turn in. So even if you do all the problems like I did for Linear Algebra, her exams are extremely harder then the problems in the book and notes.
She's a good teacher, allows open book and open notes on tests but HER TESTS ARE NOT THAT EASY!!! SHE GRADES HARD TOO BUT she is really nice and helpful if you have questions go to her office hours.
Her lectures are helpful, but her test are harder then her examples and the book's exercises. She lets open notes but doesn't provide any difficult practice test questions she gives on the test. Goes to quickly. I do not recommend her only for Math-32
Professor Valdes is a very easy teacher, and her exams are too easy. Didn't get through all the material. If covering the material and understanding it thoroughly is your goal, consider a different instructor.
great teacher
She is good teacher for other math courses but for Linear Algebra she stinks!!!! There are no "Practice Exams" for that class to study off of!!!
YOU HAVE TO ADMITT HER TEST ARE TO HARD!!!!!!!! Her lectures are for doing the homework only!!!!
Her exams are easy just like the examples and the practice tests. You just gotta know your stuff because 50 minutes is not very long to take an exam. Just because it's open book/notes doesn't mean you don't have to study! She IS a hard grader though.
she is very nice....explains faily well....open note/book test...but still need to know the material......takes off a lot of points if something wrong....i would recommend her...
Her class is super easy. It's really easy to get an A. Her tests are exactly like the hw problems. She doesn't cover enough material and she doesn't give you the "bigger picture"/deeper understanding.
Stay away from Dr. Valdes. Tests are way too easy and goes way too slowly and doesn't cover all the material. Take someone else and actually learn the material.
She is loosing her touch,
(3)Midterms, Final, No HW. Very nice prof. She allows open book for midterms and final, however, NO curve. Easy if you know your stuff, difficult if you "just wanna pass the class."
She goes slow on the easy material, and fast on the hard material. Test are like the practice exams, but you really have to keep up to pass.
Take good notes, especially pay attention to those Maple lectures cuz she likes to put those on the exam. Doesn't curve but if u go over her sample midterms and know ur stuff, u should be fine.
She hella stinks for Math129A!!!! Math32 is easy and she has way to many practice exams to study and use on those test. But for Linea Algebra nothing and no HW! The problem in the books are do-able, but the exams are ridiculosly hard!! Don't take her!!!
Open book tests with whatever notes you want. Still have to study like a normal class because of length of tests but tests are moderate in difficulty. Allows calculators. Homework is not graded.
Calc 3 is already tough, but she makes it worse. Don't even think of signing up for her class. She doesn't care about her students, you'll see.
hate her!
make ur test harder!!!!
freaken easy
Dr. Valdes is a great teacher with a great attitude. She deserves a great rating.
Great teacher, teach with enthusiastic. Open book test, and answers can be found in text. Easy Exams and curve. Definitely recommended! No BS.
Always cheerful and friendly. Her lectures were pretty clear. She does not give out homework which in this case is a pity because you really have to work hard to keep up with what she is teaching. But tests were all open-book. 3 midterms plus a final.
Great teacher! You'll learn a lot -- don't ever worry about not passing this class, and if you're semi-decent at math, don't ever worry about not getting an A!
Friendly, kind, and approachable. Prepares lecture outlines on website. Doesn't assign homework and open book, open notes exams and final. Do the problems for each section anyway so you'll understand the topics on the exams. Cal 3 can be hard to understand, but she makes it easy. Easy A.
Excellent professor. Open-book, open-notes, open-homework for exams/midterms. Explained all material clearly, posted all documents online. Homeworks were graded, but it helped me be motivated to actually *do* them...which got me a B in the class.
Prof. Valdes is one of the best math professors I have had in San Jose Sate. Her exams are a little difficult, but since all of the exams are open notes, you should not worry. Go Valdes!!!
Exams are very easy. Lectures are okay but could be clearer. Very nice (too nice, she had no control over the class) and personable. Take her if you otherwise have a full load and are looking for an easy A/B in a technical course.
She can't teach this course!!!
Valdes has been one of my favorite profs at San Jose State. She is interesting, fun, nice, and definitly gets every student involved in the class. I am glad I met her and would recommend her to anyone!!!
she's alrite...yeah tests are open book, but u wont hv time to use it much..tests are tricky too..dun think u can slack off with this prof..but she's very nice tho..
Midterms and Final are open book, open notes yet the class is a class you have to keep up with because you dont have time to look everything up during the exam. Slight curves on exams, overall an average class.
She is very nice and her tests are fairly easy. The test problems are not hard, but she words them differently than the hmwks which is what makes it confusing. She is an ok teacher...there is room for improvement on her part....if you take her class consider office hours. If you do the hmwk and understand it then you should be ok with the class.

She's the best instructor. The way she teach made me understand the material easily. All midterms and Final are open-book. Pay attention to the examples she wrote on the board and write them down! That is so useful for tests. I never really studied before exams. I just had to prepare what I needed to know and remember where to find them. A+ Teacher
Why are her test harder than homework and lectures???
unfair grading, and talks to you like you're a baby. very nice, but plays catch-up by rushing through sections
shes just a **** period
I took her class a couple semesters ago and I hated this course. The homework assigned doesn't match up with the Midterm and Final. If you're look for a class that is not meaningful, this is it.
lame ass teacher
PROS: Open book, open notes, open HW/Solution Manual, Basically... OPEN EVERYTHING. (INCLUDING CALCULATOR!!, and more importantly, previous tests) CONS: Most people think the class is going to be a cake-walk, but if you don't do the HW, you're not gonna pass the class.. 3 tests, and then a final. Lot of time/effort needed, but it's well worth
I loved her some much I took her five semesters in a row, too bad she doesn't teach anything else I need. I had her for Math 32, 42, 129A, 112A, 142......She is the best teacher. If you do all the homework you will do fine on her open book open note tes
If you can't pass her class or have problems with the work. Then basically you're an idiot, slacker or both. She is very clear and if you have problems she basically goes over the homework problems in the study sessions.
She's a really good teacher who shows emphasis on what she teaches. There's no HW required and her midterms are straightforward and like the ones she puts on her site from the past classes. Really the previous rater was correct. I'm pretty lazy and sometimes don't even go to class or do hw but so far I'm still getting a B. Just bring your book and notes for the open book and notes midterm and just try to match the problems on the midterms with some example problems they show in the book. A really good class

Great teaching. She empasizes points, but not to make anyone feel stupid. Tests are super easy. No homework. She tells you what the problems are going to be on the tests, and it's open book and open notes. She also gives you all her past tests with answers to practive with. Take her if you can.
Open book and notes on tests! She prepares for her lectures well using formulas and visually on the graphing calculator. She is absolutely wonderful and am bummed that she is on leave for the next year:-( Fav math teacher at SJSU!!!
She hates engineers so be careful. If she doesn't like your class than she'll try to cover more material. Very moody, but she's pretty easy, so its worth the torture.
she outlines for your notes online, you just print and fill in the blanks. very organized and comprehendable teaching at a slow, but not borin pace. has practice exams online very simiar to what the real exams are like. In her lecture you are actually learning not just taking notes really fast.
Excellent! I like her well-explanation lecture, challenge exam, well-structure outlines. Best!!!
great teacher
When we filled out the teacher evaluations, one guy near me wrote in big letters 'DO NOT FIRE'. 'Nuff said.
She is hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. My C- is completely my fault- I simply didn't do enough homework for one of the midterms. I failed the second midterm so bad I couldn't get anything else besides a C. I would take her for every class I have if I could.
She is very clear in her lectures, and used computer graphics to good effect in explaining the material. She allows open book and notes on exams, so if you know where to find things, you shouldn't have trouble. I wished she would have assigned some homework, because it was too easy to slack off!
Open book and note tests, however, she has tough tests and grades tough as well. This style of teaching should be commended. Do homework to do well!
This teacher is extremely easy. Open books and notes for all tests and finals. She curves too. But she assigns way too much problems for hw and doesn't check them, which made me develope the habit of not doing my hws!!
Awesome teacher. Hard subject. Somewhat easy tests. Do the homework and you should be fine.
Your entire grade comes only from 2 exams and the final. Also, it seemed like she explained only enough so we can get certain questions right on the exam but not so that we truly understand the concepts. Exams are pretty easy though but she grades somewhat harshly.
Valdes is a great teacher! She is very organized, and her teaching style is fantastic and clear. Yes, the test and final are open book and open notes. There is no homework. I got a C-, and F on my midterms. Studied my ass off for the final, and got a C+ for the class. Clearly, math is not my strongpoint. If I can pass, then you can pass.
She is the best math teacher i had so far. Her class is very easy and she explains stuff very clear. I totally recommend her for math teacher.
I am not satisfied with the grade she gave me....but to be true..she is the ANGEL for mathematics...she culdnt teach any better....Take her if you have getting bad grades in previous math classes...she'll totally change your opinion..
Dr. Valdes is one of the best teachers I've had at SJSU. She made Calculus 3 crystal clear to me. All of her tests are open book, and she has previous midterms dating back to the fall of 2001 that you can use as practice exams. You can't get better than that! Homework is mandatory though, for it is grade. I highly recommend her!
Extremely clear on the teaching. Math can never get more clear than her teaching. Even I know most of the material already, I still enjoyed her lectures. Open book on all the exams, dont need to memorized the equations but need know how to apply them since open book = harder test. Very kind and willing to help teacher you get candy for going:)
Great Teacher! The class is new and I hope it evolves into a more application based class rather than the teaching tool class it is now.
Take this teacher. All her exams are open book and no quizzes. The homework is brief and you may need to do extra problems but its no big deal. The homework problems are all evens and way more difficult than exam questions. She has all her past exams on her website and tells you exactly what to study for the final. Great teacher.
Wonderful prof. I understood the material from lectures and homeworks, and did well on the long open-book exams, which tested the pertinent info without being tricky. She made me even more interested in math, enough to double-major! It's a shame I cannot take her for any more courses; I'd take her for anything she wanted to teach.
she is very clear and concise. u need to do all the hw because the tests are open book and notes. valdes is one of the best teachers ive had, do the hw and study for the test and you will get an A. she also has old test and keys online that have problems similar to the test(and you can use them on the test!)
TAKE HER!open book, notes and past exams allowed on tests-however time urself! try to ur best on the HW-no quizzes, goes step by step on every problem she does in class.clear, nice, and excelllent teacher
Prof. Valdes is a good teacher. Her lectures are easy to follow and she goes over a lot of examples. The final though was pretty difficult, but she curves a little bit.
