easy class, but shes just mean!
learn to speak engish please. worst teacher ever.
Easiest ****ing class... EVER!If you talk really fast and complain about your grade... give yourself about 15 extra points!!!!!
WORST TEACHER! She needs to learn how to be on time to class, to TEACH and speak english! How can the university hire someone like her!
teacher is a witch, class is only easy of u have old tests
Micro Theory. She is bad!! She never acts personable, then tells us on the last day that we are a quiet class... Needs to slow down and care a bit, we are not taking a math race. Midterm average was 58, and she would not curve it.
Avoid her. She should learn how to speak ENGLISH. I don't understand how someone could be hired for a job where they must communicate and teach information to others yet don't have a basic understanding of the English language. It's inexcusable.
On the off chance that she reads this I'll try not to be too mean, but: PLEASE learn to speak English. You are not here to only do research - you are here to teach and you simply cannot teach in the US without a basic understanding of the language.
What is the department thinking?! I used to think that a basic fluency in E-n-g-l-i-s-h was important to teaching. Unfortunately winning an award for internationally diverse campus is more important then actually teaching. Dont ignore this, avoid he
it's ok, the final Is worth 50%. Her tests are not easy. Her english is strange but you get used to it.
I had Khana my first semester and thought that her accent was heavy, but at least she knew English. Wong always told us we were quiet, she was always late for class. This class was total bummer!
I agree w/ the past reviews. + she takes forever to answer any questions you might have. It's cute/funny how she refers to Principles of Micro as "baby micro." Grade depends on the midterm and final so make sure you don't fall behind in the course if you take it (not recommended).
linda wong has to be the worst econ professor ive ever had in my 3 years at bing.
Frankly, I didn't go to class very often... but whenever I show up to class, she shows her dedication as a professor and she REALLY wants her students to learn the material. Basing the entire grade on just two exams is mind-boggling, but she gives alot of hints during review sessions. Good Prof!
Nice lady, she looks tough but she's not. Class is not hard. DO NOT BUY THE TEXT, you dont need it. Look at the lecture problems for the exams... just go to class and take notes, you'll be fine
I took two classes with her. Why? The reason is that her tests are easy (for me anyway). Her accent isn't that bad. She has a bit of a British accent. The classes I took with her are all based on articles I printed off the internet. So...NO NEED TO BUY BOOKS. This class saved me a bundle.
terrible teacher who just doesn't care about her students at all. lazy. if this school gives her tenure i'm transferring.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
Horrible teacher, acts like a **** at random times. Takes out her frustrations of life in class. Gets angry when you ask her a question. also she has a thick Chinese accent. Obviously hates teaching, i dont know why she teaches. AVOID AT ALL COSTS (even if this is your major)
THE worst teacher you can EVER take in this department, up there with Britto, Bassman. Don't let the good reviews fool you: 2 tests determine your grade, tests are unclear, grading is tough. The most atrocious teacher I have had in my life.
wack. take it with someone else unless you want to fail
I dont know what everyone was talking about. She gave us the old test before the midterm which had all the questions. Pretty easy going class if you just go to class and know your "BABY MICRO" stuff. Pretty easy going since there are only 2 tests, midterm and a final. Just go to class and you will be fine.
The midterm was easy but how can anyone give her a good rating. Worst teacher I've ever had. She doesn't explain a thing!! Plus, the class average was a C- and she doesn't curve at all.
HORRIBLE ON ALL LEVELS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Although she has some accent, it's not that bad. you're going to get used to it. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you go to class and take every note.
if you go to class and take good notes, you don't need to buy the textbook and the tests come from the notes. definetely go over old tests very helpful in studying for midterm. one of the easiest econ classes i've taken.
easiest econ class. no work has to be done outside of class except for studying for the midterm and final. everything is out of the notes, so just stay awake in class.
easiest course
It's an easy class as long as you show up every day. Only downside is that there are only 2 exams, so there's no room for error.
the class is easy as hell, is economics what easier can it be?? just basic math and you are fine!, The only thing is that the professor is lazy!! she just lecture the whole entire semester. Two exams is you whole grade. thanks whatever god you belief that this is economic and not a hard subject because everybody would be failing this course, Worst!
she is not a bad person, but u'll hate taking her class SO BADly. she CANNOT teach. worse prof ever. time wasting jokes, confusing, boring, u cant learn nothing. she takes things way too personally, she often pick on students who question her. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, binghamton Uni is much worse off having her.
Had her for Microeconomic Theory. The ONLY key to this class is to goto every class, learned this the hard way. Her tests are only on material from class. Don't read the book, it only confuses you more. She is very lazy, your entire grade is your two midterms and your final (actually ended up dropping 1 for us). Easy class if you pay attention
The Micro Theory class is about an hour and a half a week. She barely teaches anything from the book. I feel like I've learned nothing and I'm getting fairly good grades (it's november). I didn't go to class for about 2-3 weeks. Did great. If you read the textbook, you learn what she teaches and a lot more.
TERRIBLE TEACHER! She doesn't know how to teach. She wants her students to fail. She gave no practice problems. Our entire grade is based on the best of 2 midterms, 3 homeworks, and the final. Terrible! Do not recommend at all. Worst professor I've ever had. The textbook will be your best friend
She cant teach. Shes terrible. You won't learn anything.
Just an overall horrible teacher but her class isn't that difficult. She doesn't cover much material and let's us out 30 minutes early most of the time. Just go to the class, copy notes, and try to understand what she's saying and you should be alright. If you can though, don't take her.
the easiest class in econs. You just get few questions for the homework do not attend class actually. everything she teaches is on the textbook. I dont think her note is helpful. You will have only two exams and one final. Thoese are very easy if you just go over the chapters, its not difficult to get an A grade.
Don't know what these people are talking about. Prof Wong isn't bad at all. I didn't even buy the textbook and just off the notes in class I got an A-. She is VERY helpful when you go to see her personally when you have a question. Her personality and teaching styles may be erratic but she's good/easy nonetheless!!
I don't know why people are complaining. She is very nice and helpful in the class. You only have 3 homeworks which helps you a lot for the exams. Final will be very similar from what you learn from the class. As long as you did well in Intro level, this should be a piece of cake. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Do NOT take this class, and this is coming from someone that got an A. She is the laziest professor I have had at Binghamton, comes late to class, makes her TA do all the work, etc. She is pretty unhelpful...the material is pretty easy, but you are better off with a better professor.
If you're someone who depends on a teacher to help you understand material,DO NOT TAKE HER. She is absolutely useless. The notes suck, she glosses over many concepts and cancells classes because she doesnt feel like going. Material is boring so you don't really feel like learning it on your own, and she doesn't push you to do so. Avoid if possible
The worst teacher I ever meet in Binghamton. She even didn't give the key answer of exam to TA. And TA only can give us grade by her knowledge. And she always don't prepare before the lecture. Her English is so bad. I cannot listen clearly what she is saying
worst professor ever in history of all time. ALL TIME!!!!
I once asked the prof a quick question after class about something I didn't understand in the lecture. She answered the question, and made me stay longer to explain it back to her to make sure I understood it back and forth. I think that's amazing. She has some quirks, however she is really helpful and good at teaching.
Absolutely incompetent. Can barely get even a single concept across without confusion. Incredibly quiet and will give terrible (if not outright false) explinations on occasion. The textbook is barely used but reading it is better than her. Dont even try to understand her notes, the variables alone are impossible to understand.
Tough to understand but if you participate a little she will give you a good grade. Notes mandatory and being able to interpret from the graphs and formulas. tests are pretty much right from notes with a little bit more difficult examples. ACTUALLY NOT A BAD PROF just more expecting of students
Avoid at all costs!...that being said, you might have to take her as a last resort and if so, you must do the following to pass: sit up front (otherwise you won't hear her and you wont understand anything, read over the textbook (its quick bckgrnd info), go to discussion (thats the only place you'll learn anything, maybe). Other than that Good luck
Funniest professor at bing.
Taking this class with her will make you seriously question the university's hiring policies. Can't understand a word she says because her voice is practically inaudible and I have to rely on TA for almost everything. Just avoid.
She is easily the worst teacher i have ever had in binghamton. She teaches off book and puts random crap on the exams that were never covered. Going to class doesnt even help because she not only can't teach she also speaks so quite that only the front row can hear her. DO NOT take any class with her unless you ABSOLUTELY have too
This class is a disaster, wait to take it with someone else
RUDE. UNCLEAR. DISPASSIONATE. She is the epitome our failing education system. She breaks rules that are in place to protect students, uses grades as bribes, is rude to her wonderful TA, refuses to give examples, gives VERY poorly written tests, and consistently shows up late/ends early. DID NOT GET MONEY'S WORTH --> AVOID AT ALL COST
Really not as bad as some people say. As long as you attend lecture and actually try to listen you'll do fine. Definitely requires attention and attendance. The tests are doable and the Ta was super helpful.
She is very unclear and the class was very scattered. I had to withdraw because my first midterm grade was an 18/60, only 3 points lower than the average. Very dangerous to take this class.
It is a terrible professor!!Avoid her!!!!
While you may think that even with a bad professor, one can do well in a class with some hard work, this is not a class whee that is possible. Wong actively works against her students and you can not do well in a class where the teacher works against you. Makes me question Binghamton's high ring policies. She is the worst prof Ive ever had at Bing.
Is Linda Wong easy? No. Is every class easy? No. Linda knows her stuff, and most of the people who write such spiteful reviews never show up to class, and act surprised when she puts stuff that she only taught in class on the tests. She is very expecting of her students, but with hard work, an A is possible. She knows who puts in the effort.
She is very unclear and the class was very scattered. i got an A from her class but need lot of extra work in class
oh my god, she is the worst professor I've ever had. It's like she's not even TRYING to teach. I would rather take 5 other Econ classes just to avoid taking one class with her. AVOID AT ALL COSTS AVOID AT ALL COSTS AVOID AT ALL COSTS
She has an accent which makes it hard to understand at times, but her lecture notes are extremely important, so study her notes and the textbook and you should do fine. If you don't understand something, just ask her in class. She is good at answering questions, don't get frustrated when she does mistakes, just verify the answer again and again.
AVOID! Tests are very hard and she barley gives you anything to study from but the class notes which don't make sense. Calc based class. Almost the whole class did horrible. 3 tests and a project.
Prof. Wong is amazing, so I am confused by her ratings on here. The people who complain on here probably didn't go to class. She condenses the information a lot so you don't have to read the textbook, which saves you a lot of time and effort. The people who couldn't get over non-native English speaking professor and skipped class didn't do so well.
She is incredibly disinterested in her students and more importantly their grades. She picks clear favorites and structures her class quite randomly. Tests are difficult and long. She did not pay attention to the project so as long as you provide her with some good sources you'll do fine. Econ 443 and Econ 444 were the exact same.
Mean. Rude. Dispassionate. Crude. Disrespectful. Arrogant. Not organized. All of which would describe Linda and her teaching style. Her class is full of random information, with no textbook for foundation. Truly the worst experience I have had at Binghamton. Four years at Bing and I just made this account specifically to write a review about Wong.
Linda Wong is an amazing professor. She teaches everything in class. No book required. Only way you would do terrible in the class is by not attending and not listening. Other than that everything is in front of you. Tests are difficult but if you look carefully you see that it is set up so that a 60% is a B. If you participate she will reward.
She doesn't use a textbook for the class and instead uses papers that are free online. She isn't very organized and comes to class late most of the time but she doesn't post any notes on Blackboard. She says you don't have to memorize formulas but the way the tests are graded you need to. Grades are on 3 midterms lowest dropped and cumlative final
I believe she is a teacher who genuinely cares about her students. This is a 400 level class so don't expect it to be easy, however, if you show up to class and go to office hours you should be fine for this class. She is always willing to help. Not for those students who hate math.
The only notes you will have are the ones from class and they are very unorganized, she has no references. The only thing she does is post irrelevant articles on blackboard and tells you to read them because the students "have nothing better to do." The tests are extremely unorganized and the TA grades the tests irrationally, it makes no sense.
If youre wondering what her class is like let me give you a quick sketch: Prof: Any questions? Student: Prof: Wow okay. You really should know this. I will not go over it. How do you not know that? ... Prof: Why is no one participating and asking questions? Repeat for the term.
I cant say that I recommend taking any of her classes. For what its worth Econ 443 and 444 seem to be the exact same material. However, the only reference you have are her class notes and random course readings. Very dangerous to take this class.
Her ability to convey material is goodish. Your ability to take GREAT notes is crucial in this class since tests are only on lecture facts, examples, and assigned readings. You will have to study to do well, but she is fun and caring if you are respectful. She specifically stresses topics that are tested and is a joy overall.
Wong gets a bad wrap. I took this my spring semester senior year and was fearing after reading all the comments on here. The class went fine, all you have to do is go to class and take notes. 3 tests and a final, and 1 gets dropped. No textbook, hw, or presentations. Only 40% of the class gets a B- or better.
One of the most disorganized classes I have ever taken. Material is based on very dense academic literature with no homework examples given. Demonstrates an understanding of the material she teaches but fails completely at explaining it understandably. This class is a GPA bomb, avoid.
THE worst professor Ive taken thus far and its only been one month into the semester. The way she lecture is confusing, and the way she lectures seems like shes reading off a dense textbook. She WILL evade your question during review sessions and its pretty much up to you to take down notes and teach yourself from the readings. Would rate 0/5.
Beware. It was already unbearable tolerating her in-person lectures, but the fact that there was NO more curriculum planned for the remaining portion of the semester (online) was appalling. Class still was given 2 more exams, a paper, presentation AND cumulative final to do in the absence of course materials as well as... her. A messy "professor".
Worst professor I've ever had. When the class was put online, she was not accomodating at all.
She is super condescending to all of her students who ask questions. Only reference you have are her notes that she does not explain. No textbook for framework. No hw or practice questions. She doesnt proctor or grade her own exams. Please, if you take any piece of advice from this page and care about your GPA, do not take a class of Linda Wong.
Smart, but a bad teacher. She grades ridiculously harshly and talks down on her TA. If you ask her a question in class she often responds that you "should already know", doesn't answer. No one in my class got higher than a 60 on her midterm. Questions on tests are very different than class material. Lectures are confusing. Unprofessional behavior.
This is the only professor I have ever seen who can make every single student angry.
She is truly incredible. She loves students who care and as long as you show effort and interest you really can't go wrong. The class isn't necessarily the easiest, but exams are really straight-forward. Everything you learn is on the exam, there are no surprises. 1 debate, topic of your choice, however you cannot pick if you are for or against it.
Professor Wong's class was one of few I looked forward to going to and never had a problem with anything towards her material at all. She made it easy for myself and the class to understand the topics easily and was able to help us all out for the comprehension aspect in the long run. I would so take another course given by her in the future!
Professor Wong is by far the best economics professor I've had at Binghamton. She can easily break down complex subjects into digestible segments and isn't afraid to go over past material to make sure her students fully understand. If you attend and ask questions to make sure you understand lecture, you can definitely do well in her class.
She is sooo condescending to all of her students who try to ask questions. The only reference you have to study are the notes. But she does not explain when asked. AVOID her class
She grades ridiculously harshly and talks down on her TA. If you ask her a question in class she often responds that you "should already know", doesn't answer.
You are not sure if this is an econ course or an abnormal psych lab. You'd find out why
Is she okay??
There is some clinically wrong here. A few minutes of interaction should make it obvious. Avoid unless you have to take her course
The topic is interesting but she manages to turn you off completely. There is definitely some mental health issue that affects instruction and how the prof interacts with students. I wish the department does something so they hire people who love teaching and do it well.
Erratic, rambling and disorganized. She is so bad another prof, Prof Wolcott , cautioned us not to take a course with her
Pay attention, attend lecture, ask questions when confused and you will do well. Professor Wong is very willing to clarify material, you just have to ask. Many concepts are not difficult to understand if you pay attention and take thorough notes. There are no trick questions on exams, questions will be based on material directly covered.
She is not a good prof. The last review was written by the department (Barry Jones) to boost her up
I am not sure why some students give her a low rating. She is kind and adjusts to the needs of the students. She tries to make your life easier. one of the nicest professors in the Econ department. very smart lady and lectures are so fun
Do not take this class. 90 percent of your grade is based on tests. The tests are very hard, and she does not give any practice exams to help with studying. The review sheets are not helpful either, as most of the concepts on them are not actually on the test. If you care about your GPA, do not take this class.
I don't understand why this professor has low ratings. Attend class, take notes, ask questions, and you'll do fine. She only tests what she teaches, so you shouldn't be surprised by tests. She provides all the necessary information, so you just need to do the basics.
