Great teacher
She's the best!
She is a very good teacher, very through, very organized..Great teacher and very nice!!!!
She is very enthused about her subject area and she's very helpful! Great teacher!
I went into this class expecting to hate it and not do very well. Her teaching style is great - I actually ended up very happy I took the course. Very helpful and very organized. Good sense of humor helped with tough material
She is a great professor and allows you to use all notes, assignments, and the book for tests. She rambles alot and tends to confuse stdents during lecture. That's why the TAs are there, to clarify the lecture!
This class is not as bad as you might think. The work is long, tedious and a bit redundant, but easy.
Good teacher! Key to success...organize your notes because its all open book tests. Funny, dry sense of humor.
Good teacher but tends to ramble during class making you fade in and out of lecture. Tests are easy as long as you do all of your assignments and organize your notes, since the test is open book and notes. Overall an easy class.
Dr. Z is for sure one of thebest educators at VCU, her social and personality psyc classes are awsome, I learned a lot, and got all A's in the 3 classes that i have had w/ her. She is really helpful w/ navigating VCU's rediculousness too!
THe class is hard subject matter, but if you do the assingments then youllbe fine, social psych with her is interesting, however psych 214 is painful, and i hate her jokes jus lame
The material is difficult but she is able to clarify and assist with understanding. She also helped me to prepare for psyc 317. She is a very nice prof and is willing to help with other subjects if she can
Really smart professor, really interesting class. She was incredibly helpful to me - absolutely saved me semester. Pay attention and the tests will be easy. Fantastic professor though - would definitely take her again if I could.
the material is not easy, but she makes its easy to understand. I got an A.. easily. She's awesome.
A great professor; very helpful.
Basically, you have to go to class and do the work, but if you do, you will most likely get an A. She's really nice and very helpful. She's the only professor who teaches this class, probably b/c she really knows how to make the information accessable. I HATE Statistics, but she made it enjoyable.
Very well organized! You know exactly what is expected of you! I am awful at math, but she teaches it in a very clear way.
I love Dr. Z...she if amazing and incredibly beautiful!!!!!!!
great teacher
She's very informative and witty. Buy the book(s) because both her lecture material and book material will be on the exams. Dr. Z is very attentive to her students, as well. A wonderful professor. AND HER FASHION SENSE IS IMPECCABLE! - EC
at first her voice annoyed me she says "UM" too many damn times! but her teaching method is fine, you can tell that she wanna make sure you understand before she moves on to something else. I'm a girl but she's hella sexy and you couldn't tell that she's a Dr. just by looking at her. She smart.
Dr. Z is interesting, intelligent, witty, nice, and attractive. She is wonderful at presenting the information in a way that is easy to comprehend. Her tests can be difficult, but she goes out of her way to try to help you understand everything. The reaction papers help your grade too!
I'm a William&Mary student who has taken a summer class with Dr. Z and she's awesome!! One of the BEST profs I've had. Her class is enjoyable and easy to follow. You can't help but be interested in her lectures when she makes the topics applicable to real life, often with examples from her own experiences. I would DEF. recommend taking her class!
I have nothing but great respect for Dr.Z & the amount of work Dr.Z puts towards teaching her students. She's not only interested in teaching stats with real-life examples, but she is so good at realizing that a class like this needs humor and she brings it. I look for classes she teaches to take. I even invited her to my wedding and she came!
awesome professor!
Dr. Z. is totally the best prof I ever had, I recomend taking all of her courses
Very effective instructor. I recomend her to all my friends
Take all the classes you can get with Dr. Z. I mean it...do it....
I loves me some Dr. Z!
Dr. Z is hands down the best professor that I have ever had at VCU. She makes Statistics actully seem fun! She is extremely helpful and she uses real-life examples in her class. It is so great for her that she got promoted, but I wish that I could take a nother class of hers.
Took her for 2 classes excellent prof. Nice extremely helpful, makes stats seem like a piece of cake. Very cute, and knows her stuff. If you have trouble focusing while taking an exam in a large class, she will set time out to let you take exams in her office. Take her for all your psyc. course if possible. you will NOT be disappointed!!
She does a good job of teaching statistics for psyc and she uses good examples. She tests for understanding and not to trick you; great professor.
I definitely had a negative opinion about this class but Dr Z. totally changed my opinion, definitely one of the best prof. i've had! very helpful, uses real life examples in lectures. very fair in grading hw assignments and on tests, highly recommend to take all her classes
Prof. Z is absolutely great. Coming into psych 214 (statistics for the social sciences), I thought the class was going to suck horribly because it's required for psych majors, but she's great. I'm not math oriented (by any means) but she made lectures and learning very easy and fun and I ended up with an A for the class.
Dr. Z is an awesome professor. She gets you ready for 317. I liked the open notes/book tests. I just wished my 317 teacher was a great as Dr.Z!
I took her 2 of her classes. She is so intelligent. She is a great mentor and professor. She will make sure you'll get your money worth for the class.
Not such a big fan of her class. Lecture was boring. Don't even think about her letting you out early. Sometimes we had to stay after class was over. Worst of all were her tests. Even if you do well in lab her tests are extremely HARD! not to mention VERY LONG! Avoid taking this class with her.
Dr. Z is amazing. She cares about the students and she works hard until everything is understood. As for the exams, they are open book, so if you do the work you can easily get an A. In addition to being a great professor, she's also extremely hot. I adore her!
I love Dr. Z.. she's awesome. Great teacher, very smart, explains well, funny. Overall I really enjoyed this course, but the material can be a little confusing so you need to be sure to go to class AND lab.
I only had Dr. Z for one class, but absolutely adored her. She is a fantastic teacher and great role model. Definitely takes interest in her students and makes sure you understand. Subject content was boring, but is a required class so she makes it as 'fun' as possible. Class is tough, but prepares you for PSYC 317 extremely well. TAKE HER CLASS!
Linda was an excellent professor, she was incredibly organized and serious about her work. She made me much more interested in the topic.
Dr. Z is an unbelievable teacher. She is incredibly smart, witty, understanding, clear, thorough, and lenient. She understands and cares about her students in a way that I've never seen at VCU. And she's adorable.
Dr. Z is best person to take 214 with. Not only does she post the notes BEFORE lecture, she posts annotated notes AFTER lecture. How many teachers do that? Not only is she through in her work, she actually CARES about your grade. IMAGINE THAT! Do yourself a favor and take Psyc 214 with Dr. Z, you won't regret it.
Great professor. Exams were reasonable and we were allowed to use our books and notes. She posts annotated lecture notes and very thorough study guides online. I had the class at night so i usually just went to the labs but i still received an A. My lab instructor, Molly, was really good as well.
I Loved her class, she is a wonderful teacher and makes learning fun.
Amazing. She is very patient and easy going. She explains things very well. Awesome teacher. Highly recommended.
Good Teacher. She comes off stiff and her methods are pretty rigid. It's the definition of a lecture class. Class is fair, and she is helpful. A fair amount of work. Good idea to go to class, labs optional.
Dr. Z is an exceptional instructor -- intelligent, articulate, and always helpful. And not only is she great at what she does, she seems to enjoy it as well. I would recommend her class to anyone.
Wonderful professor! Always willing to offer help and is very encouraging.
Wonderful professor. Three tests all open book and notes. 8 or so lab assignments with one dropped. Powerpoint lectures. She is very clear and helpful
Extraordinary professor. Made a class that I had no interest in (statistics) ver interesting and easy. She is very helpful and clear. You won't regret taking any class with this professor. I'll take personality withher next semester!!!
Take this class if you can. Dr. Z is an amazing teacher! She works hard to make sure that everyone understands. Lecture and notes are easy to follow and everything is posted on Blackboard. She is the fairest grader I've ever known! Exams are open book, open note, but do require practical application of concepts. Lab attendance is vital.
Dr. Z is an outstanding teacher-one of the best I've ever had. Extremely clear in lecture and very, very helpful. She's super nice! Lab attendance was very helpful in understanding the material and counts for a large portion of your grade, so definitely go! I can't recommend her highly enough!
There is a reason nobody has given Dr. Z a bad review on here! I was REALLY dreading this class since I suck at math-however I ended up getting a B. Dr Z was great, very clear and always available to help. My TA for lab, Jess was also great. Make sure you do all lab assignments-they can really boost your grade!
Dr. Z joked with our class that her PSYC214 class would become our favorite class of the semester. Surprisingly, it was! She is SO x100 helpful and is obviously concerned with your success. She puts so much effort into the class and uses Blackboard frequently. I HIGHLY recommend taking her.
She is the best lady ever. Probably the best person the Psych/Stat dept. have right now! She takes care of her students and makes sure they do really well. Do all the assignments b/c lowest one gets dropped. Go to class. She'll know you by name at the end. She's awesome! Take her!!!
ONE OF THE BEST PROFS. AT VCU! Dr. Z is so helpful, intelligent, and is truly a TEACHER!! I hated Stats and dreaded this class-- I secretly kind of like it now and found the class challenging but easy and it is because of how concise and organized Dr. Z is with her teachng. I'm thinking of taking another stats class-crazy! Attend every class!
Dr. Z is awesome!! Before the semester started, I thought this would be the class I hated the most. It turned out to be my favorite and I got the best grade out of all my classes. Dr. Z explains Stats very well and will spend as much time on a topic as needed by students. I definitely recommend her!
Dr. Z is a great teacher. Fair with grading. Come to class & lab, turn in all assignments, & you should make a good grade. You dont need the book. She posts all of the Appendixes that you need for the class on BB. The SPSS manual was not used either except for a few data sets. I recommend Dr. Z, I was dreading the class and it actually wasn't bad.
Class is super straight forward- tests are open book open note but not necessarily easy!! Fair as can be. Helps a lot during office hours. If you have to take this as a psych major- you are crazy if you take anyone else!
The way she speaks reminds me of Kate from (Jon &) Kate + 8, but don't let that sway you -- Dr. Z is the kind of teacher that would make you want to change your major, she's so good. Seriously, Dr Z, teach a seminar to other professors on how to be a model teacher. The TA I had, Jess was pretty cool too. Soooo helpful! Between the 2, I got an A!
Dr.Z is a good professor. She makes the class easy by allowing open notes and book on tests. Go to class, do all the HW, study and you should get an A.
Dr. Z is great! All exams are open-note/book. All of her lectures (both annotated and non-annotated) are on BB for your use all semester. Class isn't mandatory but the lectures are extensive so catching up on your own is kind of tough. I liked lab better than lecture. I've opened my book twice this semester and I have an A!
Dr. Z's a great professor and really explains the material well. I'm awful at math but I've had little trouble in this class b/c of how great she is. Lab's are basically a repeat of what you learned in class that week so that's helpful too. Lengthy homeworks i think 8 of them (but they're helpful!) and 3 open book tests.
Great teacher. She's helped me a lot during office hours, even with questions about internships and grad school non-related to class. I plan on meeting with her again. There is a lot of material but if you organize your notes and practice the steps to all the tests, you will be fine. I'm NOT a math or stats person, and i've really enjoyed it.
ok, yes. dr. z is great (really).. BUT. i feel like she rambles too much in lecture. you can tell she tries so hard to make it easy for EVERYONE to understand but she will talk nonstop about even the simplest concepts/topics. overall, i'm glad i took this class with her and i'm confident i'll get an A in this class.
Dr. Z is a quality professor...she's kind yet strict, with a right balance of both. Her lectures tend to be stretched, but the assignments and exams are very fair. For lab, Annie was a great TA...her powerpoint lectures made everything so simple and logical, which was a lifesaver on the open notes lecture exams!
I really enjoyed this class with Dr Z. Waking up to make it to the 8am lecture was difficult but she is a very kind professor. She wants everyone to do well. I missed the final exam due to writing down the wrong time for it and she contacted me first to make sure I was okay since I missed it and allowed me to reschedule. Definitely recommend Dr. Z!
Dr. Z was one of my favorite professors thus far in my undergrad experience. She is very fair! 3 exams open book/note but they are tough, but reasonable. Take Dr. Z she's great!
Dr. Z, is very helpful, if you ever find yourself struggling with the material visit her during office hours you will be so happy that you did. Not the easiest class but a B is easily attainable. All exams are open book, but hard.
I really liked Dr. Z. She's really helpful and really wants you to do well in the class. Its a tough course but if you go to class and study its not too awful. Tests are open book but kinda hard. I thought the labs were the most helpful though. I would definitely take her again!
Dr. Z was a solid choice for a professor for 214. I passed the class very easily and found her lectures knowledgeable (but the labs were even better).
The books are TOTALLY unnecessary. I didn't open the book not once throughout the entire course. You need to get a 70% average in both the lab and on exams to be able to pass the class. Her lectures are extremely boring and she comes off as a bit condescending so you can get by on just going to lab. Go to office hours for the best potential grades!
Dr. Z's super nice, but almost annoyingly thorough. She refuses to end class early to "get our money's worth" but a large portion of the lecture seems drawn out. Also, she takes weeks to grade tests. However, it's an easy A if you do the homework and bring all your notes for open book tests. Labs are a lifesaver- Cosima (TA) is an angel
Dr. Z is one of the most organized professors I've ever had. She's a total boss (in a good way) and always has her life together, I've really come to look up to her. Her class is very fair, but she always throws 1 tricky question in the test that prevents me from a 100. If you don't understand something in lecture, you definitely will after lab.
I love Dr. Z so much. We had 8 assignments throughout the semester, with them due each week and open note/book exams. I think she's great at explaining things but labs with Cosima always helped me understand fully. Both Cosima & Dr. Z will always help you if needed because they want to make sure you know how to do the problems and get you an A.
I love Dr. Z , I wish she would teach Psy 317 too. She really cares about her students and their grades. Ashlee is a sweetheart . She made lab easy and explained the material very well. This class was a blast!
She was fantastic. She is very organized and thorough and takes time to help any student who needs it. I had trouble with scheduling and she took time to really help me through it and gave me so much helpful information. Tests are open note and very easy if you print out all of the PowerPoints. Cosima was wonderful too!
You have 8 labs and 3 exams in this class! One lab gets dropped if you turn them all in on time and the exams are all open note. She post everything online and on blackboard. I only attended labs before exams because they give you A LOT of useful information for the exam and how to handle her problems! She's a great lecturer (dry material tho)!!!!
I didn't realize how great Dr. Z was until the middle of the semester when I fell behind. She really wants her students to do well and will be there to stay after class w/ questions and is easily accessible during office hours/email. great TAs too, going to the labs saved my grade. Oh and open note exams :,)
Dr. Z cares that you pass her class so she makes herself available during her office hours and recommends going if you are struggling in class. She lectures until the final minute of when the class is supposed to end so don't expect to leave early. Most of the lecture I zone out because she adds more detail than necessary about what she talks about
She is the best! She makes sure everything is explained in lecture and she really cares about making it a great class for her students. Go to lectures and labs and it's an easy A, they make sure everything is clear and you get to use all notes for the exams! I hate stats and math but it was a super easy A class for me!
Dr. Z is probably my favorite professor at VCU. She truly cares about the material she teaches and makes sure that information is understood. If not, she has flexible office hours and TAs that are phenomenal (shoutout Morgan :) ) You are graded by 8 assignments and 3 exams, which are open note. If you attend and pay attention, you can get an A/B.
Dr. Z is awesome. This course is difficult but she made it so that we understood what to do step by step. The tests are all open note but they're still difficult. You have to understand the material in order to do well. Take good notes, do the homework's and participate in lab and you will pass.
Dr. Z's 214 class was absolutely amazing. The material might seem intimidating at first but the way she explains it and provides examples for everything really helps understand the concepts. Everything was open note/book and the TA's were extremely helpful. Do the work, show effort in the course, take the notes, and you will get an A.
Dr. Z is awesome. With this being another virtual semester, she was as prepared and ready for any type of technically difficulty as she could! She can tell even if not in person, whether youre trying or not. Always available for zoom meetings and helped me so much! If youre confused, ask her. She makes everything sound so much less complicated.
Dont buy the textbook. She's super sweet and understanding and makes the content fairly straightforward. She takes a while to grade exams but that bc she tries to go thru every single question and do her best to give u partial credit. Holds weekly office hours where you can come in to ask questions, rant, or have a laid back convo. Loved her
(covid sem) one of the few profs i've had who actually tried to cater to students. office hours at least three times a week with her and/or TAs. material is spread out well, and simplifies concepts well. open-note/book exams. literally one of the kindest and most understanding profs ever. content wasn't difficult imo. wonderful prof/class overall.
A really kind professor with amazing feedback from herself and her TAs. There are lot of As on RMP, but the averages were usually in the 60s-70s. She has EC for lab corrections. Do all 3 of them. Even if you might not get everything right. It could save you. Overall an easy class and if you need to save money, do not get the textbooks (esp SPSS).
Its statistics so of course it was hard regardless of the professor. Checkpoint and assignment each week. Some tests
Made this class extremely easy!! Her lectures were super helpful and was always there to help you if you had any issues with the material. Her TA's were helpful too when giving feedback on assignments. 100% recommend taking her.
Dr. Z is a very kind and accommodating woman. I struggle heavily with math, and did not pass her class. She was easily accessible via email, and does a lot for her students. It was very difficult for me to get the help I needed with an online-asynch course, and I didn't find the TA sessions helpful.
Pretty easy if you're paying attention. Lectures are long, but honestly if you just study the Powerpoint and the example problems she basically walks you through everything you need to know. Assignments are open-note so as long as you know where to look you should succeed. There are three opportunities given to resubmit work for a better grade.
This professor had a hard time understanding the rules in place by SAEO for students with accommodations. Also relatively unhelpful when struggling. Wouldn't take again with this professor, dropped then took with another professor and got an A+.
Dr. Z cares deeply about her student's success in her class. The material is tough, but her lectures make it much easier to comprehend. Tests are long but she is generous when giving credit (show your work!). Homework is harder than exams. Dr Z is willing to help her students whether it be academically or personally. I highly recommend her class
Dr. Z is great! She loves to teach psyc 214 so she is very passionate, she has a lot of experience teaching this specific course and has it down to a science. The syllabus has every assignment and grade clearly stated and given with plenty of time to complete. If you need to take psyc 214 this is the professor to choose!! Her TAs were also great!
She is a pretty average and good teacher. She offers a lot of help if you need it. The material can get challenging but she is knowledgeable.
Dr. Z knows her stuff and cares about her students. All expectations are very clear. You're graded off tests, assignments every 1-2 weeks, and lab checkpoints. All are fairly easy; you can revise/resubmit a few assignments. I didn't touch the textbook once. Most lectures aren't mandatory but checkpoints acted as de-facto-attendance for labs.
Linda is pretty kewl. Highly recommend her
Great prof. Attendance for class not mandatory, but labs have a checkpoint that are /10 points, so attendance IS mandatory for lab. I would highly highly recommend attending class; she walks you through exactly how to approach each type of problem and why you do what you do. Didn't use the text, open note tests, accessible for help if you need her.
Dr. Z is amazing. The tests are open-note and open-book. She gives lots of examples and review sheets with information on them. Attendance for the lectures is not required but is important in labs due to assignments. She's very helpful, so attend office hours if you can. Dr. Z doesn't really use the textbook, but it is a good reference.
a lot of this class lies in receiving help from the TAs. it's a very difficult class, and sometimes dr z can teach it in a way not very good for beginners, but overall she's a great prof. i'd recommend sticking through the classes and showing up even if it's a long class or boring and what not. dr z and the TAs work really hard and they are awesome
Dr Z was honestly one of the best professors I've had. She genuinely cares and makes stats make sense. My basic stats professor made things needlessly difficult, but Dr Z got me back on track. I genuinely loved the class. The grad TAs were also amazing and very accessible outside of class.
