Boring he puts these stupid videos of himself on everyday. Take Vining if its for Basic Marketing.
Steer clear of this professor. His tests are anything but easy...do not correlate to his teaching. As for the project, it is amazing the amount of work it takes with little guidance(very vague). Advice, take another professor(any professor)
unorganized and skater-brained teaching methods. Says heres where we going ALL class and you NEVER go anywhere. Talks about grandmas cookies and has nothing to do with the subect we are on. Big name dropper and thinks he knows everyone.
He is nice, but the grading is a bit tough. Does anyone who knows him thinks that he looks a LOT like Donald Trump??

He's not that bad, but he does tend to drone on and on a lot. The class is a bit boring, but do the work, take the quizzes, and learn his notes and you will get a decent grade.
Do the work and study study study. This guy is one of the weirdest I've ever had. He is very vague with assignments and everything seems to be a joke to him. He also needs to buy a new hair piece.
BEWARE!! The worst ever! Teaches absolutely nothing! Spent 3 months on the first 8 chapters but only "2" days on the last 8! Annoying and Rude. Assignments are hard and he's no help! Avoid if you want to learn anything about Marketing!!!
Very boring and confusing class. Tests are hard, and not at all what was covered in class.
The prof. is very helpful and his quizes are easy if you follow the book to the letter and understand what is being asked

Horrible teacher, he doesn't explain anything, flips through slides at an alarming speed. He is rude and belligerent. he offers no help, only talks in circles. AVOID at all cost, it's an insult that this guy is allowed to teach
I was excited about taking this class in the beginning. I was ready to learn how to tye together all of the concepts I had learned in all my other markeing classes. What I got was an insane man who makes no sence. He will not answer questions, or help in any way shape or form. It is time for UMSL to find a new instructor.
WTF? Is a pretty common phrase in this class. Chew will not answer questions so don't even try asking for help. He's insane, and makes no sense. Bring your sunglasses b/c he likes to turn the lights on and off about 50 times each class. Warning: you may develop migraines as a result of taking this class. Too bad he's the only guy that teaches it!

Avoid this teacher HE SUCKS!He's very smart & knows what he's talking about but he's completely unable to transfer that knowledge coherently.I know it’s a required class but look for someone else teaching it. If you don’t you will regret it.The tests are almost as bad as his hair piece. Which is pretty bad, he looks just like Donald trumps brother
Overall it is easy, jsut read the book and print out powerpoints- he gives out all the information thats on the tests- no need to even take notes. Just keep up with everything, his eccentricities make for some interesting videos and stories- he is well prepared. Feel free to skip every now and then.
This guy is nuts! His tests have nothing to do with the subject material. To pass this class you need to read the book, his notes, and the powerpoints. Didn't learn anything about marketing the entire semester and still got an A.
i wouldn't recommend taking him. not all that difficult but class is BORING and you are basically responsible for teaching yourself. take someone else if possible.
Looks almost unanimous that he's an odd guy. I took the online class, it was impossible not to nod off. But the advantage was that (when I was awake) I could sit there and yell about what an idiot he was, which made me feel better. Be sure to study for the exams, a lot of the questions he'll ask twice. Not a hard A, though.

This dude lost his marbles a long time ago. Exams are tough, but extra credit is everywhere..take advantage of it! He isn't very organized, doesn't cover all the chapters before exams. Do not take as a night class, it is too hard to stay awake!!! Even with coffee! I am on my way to the final now, I am hoping for a B

There is a difference between knowing the subject and knowing how to teach it. This guy knows only knows the stuff- doesn't know how to teach it. Advice: Do the practice quizzes; nothing he says in class is relevant to what he tests you on, in fact, if you manage to stay awake you will be amazed at how dumb he sounds when going over his lectures.

Chew is lost amongst his own thoughts. He is very knowledgeable BUT CANT teach any information. In all of his lectures, which are power points, he tries to use examples FOR EVERYTHING. This is where he basically is just rambling to himself, cause everyone lost! His tests are scattered m.c. from crap you did not even talk about! take someone else
Crazy...unable to teach, should not be called a professor. Smart man, means well, just isn't right..over here...
a lecturer not a teacher. if you ask questions in class, usually you dont get a clear answer, you get more questions.
I am taking him right now!!! 4 weeks class!!!! I would not advise anybody to ever do that! He spent first two weeks on first eight chapters, next week and a half on the next eight chapters, and he will spend one day on the following eight!!!! He only mentioned the project, which is a 9 page paper, two times. DO NOT TAKE IT AS A SUMMER CLASS!
I am taking marketing with him right now. He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. If you aske him a question you will not get a clear answer and be left with more questions. I recommend reading the book and doing the online quizzes. You dont have to listen to him or even go to class as long as you read the book.
Mr Chew knows what he is talking about but he knows it so well that he lost himself in his journey of teaching...and so do we. You will not learn many things without reading the book,he doesn't spent enough time on important topics.However, if you do the online quizz and all the bonus he gives,no need to be smart to take the class.
This guy is unorganized and he's quite the scatterbrain. I think I stared at his toupee more than the slides he was showing. He asks you to answer 90 MC questions and essays on the test, which is too much in my opinion. The tests aren't a true representation of what he tries to teach. A lot of his teaching aides are from the 70's or early 80's.
First of all, I just want to say that ratemyprofess.com is suppose to be an academic assessment not a toupee or what not. Second of all, I do agree that he is scattered, but he does challange us. I think his biggest problem is he knows Too Much to be teaching it; especially Basic Marketing. His lectures may be hard to follow but he is very educated

This is the worst class i have ever taken in my life! I am an A student and now i am worried about graduating b/c of this guy. The teacher is aweful! we have a test over fifty thousand statistic problems tom- ps: this is not a stat class, and the whole class has no clue whats going on!! Drop this class like your life depends on it!!

This class is a joke. I took it about 2 years ago and he was the same way is he today: scattered, doesn't care if you have questions, and very enthusiastic about his pocket pointer. If you can memorize 80 questions about of the 200 multiple choice practice sheets he gives you, then your good.
Got to love his movies from 1970! I think he has been using the same material to teach as when he broke into the game in 1874.
Worst class ever. Never once kept a straight train of thought, and really, did not teach me anything. My book was my greatest asset. I don't know how this guy is still on staff. He is however super nice, and whatnot, but nice doesn't help you understand marketing. DO NOT TAKE.
This teacher is all over the place, his blackboard site and powerpoints are disorganized and hard to follow, that is, if you can actually find the one's he uses for class since there are a multitude of unused documents up. About an hour of the 1:15 class period is used showing videos and rambling about subjects that won't be tested. Do not take.
Talks in circles. He is very into dropping names and has annoying verbal habits ("over here"). Website is horribly disorganized and has three different files of slides for one chapter, good luck figuring out which he'll use on any given day. I hated this class with a passion, which is too bad, I thought it'd be interesting. Stay away from this guy.
I sat in the same position as you a few months ago. Thinking all of these terrible cannot be accurate. Listen to me now and run ! Im a deans list student ; studied for 9 hours before a test and only got an 83. Entirely too much work, entirely too difficult.
He is fair in grading. But you have to read and write more than other courses. He seems confuse most of time.
Took this as a summer course and didn't expect it to be so intense. Prof. Chew said he wanted us to commit 40 hours to his class every week. On the second day of class we had four assignments due and I had no clue. The class is that disorganized. Now I am not getting a minor that I was 3 credit hours from receiving.
This professor makes the class needlessly difficult. I had to retake the class the following semester with Professor Carter (Who made the class fun and extremely easy). There were at least 6 other students who were also retaking the course because they failed Chews course. If you have any choice, do not take this professor.
Nothing even makes sense in this class. I had to teach myself. The material he teaches is all over the place and somewhat bizarre.

The WORST teacher that I have EVER had. I had to use the textbook to teach myself the entire course.
Absolutely one of the worst professors I have ever encountered. His MyGateway page is a jumbled mess of links, pdfs, personal advertisements, and a million other unrelated links. Finding anything in that jumbled mess is a chore in itself. Adding to that, his homework assignments are vague and his "clarifications" are anything but. His constant hawking of his personal business endeavors is inappropriate and unacceptable. Avoid this man at all costs.

Online Class. Teacher is horribly unhelpful. If you email him questions, he will never actually answer them. His lectures are horribly confusing BUT he gives handouts before tests with multiple choice review questions from each chapter. They are word for word on the tests.It makes for an easy A on all your tests. He also hands out all the essay ?'s
He was the only option when I had to take it and I promise you the terrible reviews you read about him are all true. It was a chaotic mess & ultimately a miserable class experience. He has no organizational ability and it makes his class needlessly difficult and totally fustrating. Its just crazy nonsense & a miserable class. Avoid it if you can!!!
Wierd but nice guy.Had a low F on first test,dislayed concern with emails frequently and recieved B+ in the end.Very unorganized & boring but lenient.About 10 hw and 3 test & a major project thats VERY important and takes time.A lot of EC available.Very good test study material,took me one test to find this out tho. I took his online basic marketing course and it is unbelievable this man still has a job. He uses all of his old lectures and old syllabus, etc. The due dates on everything are all wrong and you are just supposed to figure it out. All responses to emails are generic and not helpful. By far the worst teacher you could ever possibly have.
I was warned not to take his class but my schedule gave me no other choice. I took his online course (my 5th online class from umsl) Never have I had a class that was such an utter mess to find anything on the blackboard page. I ask the professor a simple question and when I get an answer back it makes NO SENSE!If you can't avoid him, GOODLUCK!

Lol, he was absolutely awful! Try to find something on his gateway for the first time is next to impossible. He seems extremely smart, but has problems with structure in his teaching method. Do NOT TAKE HIM, if you actually want to learn something. He gives good reviews for his test once you actually find them. Also, his classes can be frustrating.
He is a really nice, funny guy but he's pretty inconsiderate in answering emails or answering questions. The test are really hard but he post them before you take them!
Very unorganized, out dated & trying to find anything on Blackboard is impossible! Doesn't tell you the date that you are having a test but the day number. If you ask for help he belittles you. Was going to write to Dean but found out he's tenured in and head of the board. DO NOT TAKE HIM! You will be sorry!
This professor is extremely unorganized. He is very knowledgeable about businesses and marketing, however his knowledge gets in the way of his teaching. I’ve e-mailed him several times and his answers were very vague and two or three words. He is a wealth of information, not a teacher
I've never had to deal with any teacher as difficult as Chew. Finding anything on mygateway was a joke. its almost like he enjoys confusing his students. Once i actually figured out how his weird system worked, the class was do-able. extra credit is available and he does give reviews if you manage to find them
Do not take this professor. You learn more how to manage the stress he causes than about marketing. He's the worst professor I've ever had. Unorganized, doesn't answer your questions, it's possible to get an A in the course if you can study all the chapters covered plus his review material.

Teacher has a lot of knowledge, however very unorganized. My ONLY tip for you is to look VERY hard for all the materials -- Use all the chapter multiple questions quizzes he posts under course documents and STUDY THEM HARD! He uses them on exams. Also, questions appear on his quiz to turn in. Do all M.C. if you want to have a shot at earning an A.

1) Never expect a clear/concise answer for anything. (You will walk away from each question asking yourself "why did I even ask"?) 2) His mygateway is outdated and cluttered 3) Expect 90 mc exam questions 4) Do not expect to pass by studying his lectures 5) Your book will be your best friend 6) RELAX (If you can)
Unorganized and confusing. Class assignments wen't bad and he gives point for attendance, the tests were pretty hard. But his classes were hard to sit through. His microphone makes him hard to understand, and he is very arrogant. Pictures of himself all the time and likes to hear himself talk. Hard just trying to understand and listen to him.
There's no need for me to repeat what others have already said but Professor Chew no longer teaches at UMSL so don't worry.
