Good class to take. You will get an A if you go everyday. Covers the material very very effectively and easy to follow. Very helpful with questions. She knows her stuff. She has a silly Canadian accent, just listen close.
Great Teacher, Class was very interesting. She gives you every bit of information you need to get an A.
Lindsay has been my favorite professor at Normandale: she communicates well, she's enthusiastic... Not too difficult yet still challenging. I highly recommend taking a class from her.
Not having much interest in Geology, I took this class to meet a general requirement but ended up really enjoying it. Lindsey is very knowledgeable about the subject and very down to earth. She does not require attendance but a lot of notes are taken in class so you really don't want to miss.
Requiring another science credit to transfer I took this class with little interest. Lindsay made the information crystal clear and interesting. She brought the classroom environment to a friend level. I highly recommend her as a professor! Thanks Lindsay!
I took a geology environmental course thinking of it as another requirement - with not much interest in the subject. She really did make me open my eyes to how we are leaving our so called footprints on this planet. In a nerdy way she is cute too! Yes, she is canadian but I am a fan of canada.
A wonderful teacher! She is extremely helpful and nerdy in a good way! Her humor helped keep my attention when taking notes. I would highly recommend anyone to take her class! Thanks Lindsay! Oh and don't pack your stuff 5 minutes before class ends she hates that!
Lindsay is a great teacher. She writes out her lecture notes on the overhead so you know what to write down. If you take notes you won't really need to read the book much. She has a sense of humor, too. She doesn't take a lot of excuses, though, for not having stuff done on time.
Very cool teacher with a sense of humor. She is very easy going and tries to make the material easy and interesting. I had no interest in geology at all, just took it to complete the goal and totally loved the class. Take this teacher and I am sure you will definitely enjoy the class!!!
Lindsay was AWESOME, she made the subject interesting. Projects were fun and relevant. Presenation was great, used both powerpoint and overheads. D2L use was very good as well. TAKE THE LAB! :)
Many students in this class had thought we would learn something about the ocean and its marine life - had we read the course description perhaps we would have realized it is not. What it was was extremely boring. Good teacher, friendly and willing to help out, go to class, take notes, study the notes and get an A. I never used the textbook.
I thought this class was going to be more about wildlife but i didn't realize that it was a geography class haha, shes a good teacher but kinda of distracting sometimes because shes a really sexy canadian.
You learn so much in this class and it's effortless. In my opinion, it is extremely easy to get an A and considering this its surprising how much you are still learning in the process. Very cool teacher.
Such an awesome professor and class. Lectures were always fun and interesting, as well as informative. She engages students in the learning process, and explains things in a clear, straightforward way, not to mention her great sense of humor.
Her class was easy but the group assignment is graded harsh. The online class is better, I wish I took that one, however, her class if you pay attention in class and take notes is an easy A, but you have to study! Awesome teacher she loves her job you can tell!!
One of the worst teachers ever. She just lectured the whole time...BORING!! Tests were hard and there was a project presentation for the final. Stupid.
All teacher does is lecture. You take notes and then what notes you take arent even on the tests making the test super difficult. Then instead of a final you do a very boring group project and present it. She also is not very helpful and thinks she is better than everyone else. Would not recommend her ever.
Guy please STOP saying good thing about this lady. She is not helpful at all..I regret why I have to take her boring class..
Course content was interesting and familiar to me, so the class was really easy. Iredale is distractingly attractive in that hot nerd-grrl way. Wish I had an excuse to take another lecture class with her. She's smart, and quite competent. Pay attention, take notes - you'll do fine.
She was a nice professor.. however, her class was BORING! She just wrote notes on the overhead and we copied them for the entire class period. Instead of a final, we had a group project and it was also pretty boring. I suppose that's better than a test though!
worst teacher i've ever had in my life. She was not helpful with anything, her tests were impossible, she doesn't give extra credit. Overall the most miserable experience I have ever had in a class. She doesn't care about her student's grades, and she is not willing to help. TERRIBLE. I will not recommend her to anyone, EVER.
Lindsay is one of the best teachers at Normandale, she has clear expectations, is well organized, fair, and brings real world experience to the course. Her tests are fine and she only keeps the best two out of three quiz scores. Besides the group project on Energy, the course has little homework. She is fun, knowledgeable, and a great teacher.
Great professor - you will have to earn your grade.
Really clear and straight forward and increidbly nice. Just take the notes. Topic is really easy to understand, I learned it all in my 7th grade Geology Class. Take the Lab, its easy and you might need it later on. If I would have studied for the tests I would have gotten an A. But I went in after only reading over my notes each time and got a B.
She was my lab teacher and I wish I had her for my class but I did not. I learned more in her lab then my class. At first I thought she was not going to help me when I needed it, but later I took the time to talk to her and let her know it was hard to have a lab teacher and a different class teacher. She took the time to hear that and was helpful.
I took this class online. She is consistent in what she wants from you. She is available to help you if you need help. This was a great class. Thanks to Lindsay I have an interest in Geology. I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
I took her lab as a supplement to the online GEOL 1110. Lab is a lot of fun. You will get a good grade if you go to class and do the work. I was a little nervous about a science with lab, but this class was amazing. Lindsay is an asset to Normandale. Take her class!
I took her online geology lecture and lab. Great professor. She made me wish I liked science more. She's very helpful - ask questions if you're confused. She makes class interesting and gives 30 points of extra credit in her lecture class. Attendance in lab is important. Study for tests and make sure you READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! Take her class.
While Prof. Iredale is certainly friendly and outgoing, her teaching method of daily notes off the overhead got old after about the second week. The material is extremely dry. The unit on "sea sediments" was particularly uninteresting and painful to listen to. I'm still waiting for the "lab-like experiences" that were promised. Must be the notes.
Love her! A lot of worksheets to do. One or two every week but they're easy points. The exams are difficult.
Oceanography is very boring, to add to that there is a lot of note taking in this course. Class is not terribly difficult though. 4 test including the final(which is not comprehensive), weekly homework assignment, and a group project that is very easy which I'm sure most of the class gets there good grade from.
Professor Iredale is very funny and loves teaching geology. She's very helpful with answering questions for exams and homework. If you attend class everyday, take notes, and participate you can pass her class with out any trouble. Her exams can be a little hard if you don't study for it. Also, there is no textbook for this course.
Very energetic kind knowledgable teacher. The tests are completely based off in class notes which are very well structured and easy to follow. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. She will tell you this the first day of class. Just study your notes for the testt so that you have them memorized(I reccomend making note cards) and you will get an A.
She is a very passionate teacher and loves what she does! Great teacher, and very helpful during office hours. She will go through step by step all your homework problems. The class overall is super boring, I fell asleep a lot during class. You just copy notes from the overhead and tests are kind of hard. I got a "B" in the class.
Loved her. She doesn't have a required textbook, but if you show up and pay attention in class you'll be totally fine. She's great at explaining and making sure everyone understands what's going on. She makes you work for your grade, but is a great help if you really want to do well.
Just great!
Lindsey is a really great professor and is always very helpful, understanding, and willing to answer questions. Geology is a lot more than looking at rocks and you will definitely be challenged throughout the course.
Probably the only online class I've enjoyed! Amount of course work was manageable. Her powerpoints are very helpful and easy to understand. I barely used the textbook; I mainly used her power points. Quizzes and tests weren't too difficult. She answers questions quickly, and is very helpful during her office hours. I would recommend this course.
Prof. Iredale is great! She really pours herself into her class so that her students will have a chance to gain the passion that is Iredale.
Taken two of her classes. Great teacher. Teaches you textbook information then has you use and apply the information on assignments as though you were a Geologist.
Lindsey is a gem! She is passionate about the subject and it shows. She truly wants her students to learn and gives many options to earn a good grade. I thought the exams were kind of difficult, but they aren't the only say to earn points. Definitely take her class if you are looking at Geology!
Lectures are pretty long, but Linsdey is a very nice& funny professor! Only 4 homework assignments through the semester which are tough because she really makes you think like a Geologist & she drops the lowest exam grade. You work for your grade, so not an "easy A". But worthwhile to take with her! You won't regret it :)
I took both the online Environmental Geology lecture and the in-class Environmental Geology lab with Lindsey. The online lecture is the best online classes I have ever taken, and I've taken 7. Her notes are clear & she is consistent and fair. This is a great class for non-science majors who need a credit! P.S. study the quizzes before her tests!
Lindsey is a great prof, easy to talk to, explains things clearly, makes sure that you understand the material. She only assigns four or five homework pieces over the semester, and while the tests may be tough, she gives you all the information you need to pass. Make sure to review the powerpoints before each test - it really helps!
Professor is not helpful, doesn't explain the work, worst class I've ever been in, she grades tough, rush through topics, I wouldn't recommend anyone to take her class.
She is not very helpful, she doesn't explain the work with much clarity, this has been the worst class I've been in & this is my 4th semester, she grades tough, she rushes through topics, I wouldn't recommend her class. She is disorganized. The textbook was basically a waste of my money too!!
She knows her subject matter very well. She is a very tough grader. She doesn't explain things very well. She makes her tests tough.
Amazing professor! Lectures are so interesting. I took environmental geology and she made it one of the most interesting classes that I've ever taken. She's so fun and so good at explaining thing so everyone understands it.
Lindsey really made me understand and get passionate about the material she is teaching. She is a very easy grader, and will help you if you have any questions. Get ready to do quite a bit of homework though. Pre class work, class work, and quizzes are all due once every week. The work doesn't take very long though.
Never in my life have I had a professor this difficult! Lindsey forgets her students are not at her level of understanding and assumes they know what she is talking about. She is not easily accessible outside class. And she changed the entire course to a flipped classroom and your homework load involves a packet, two quizzes, and lecture EVERY week
This teacher expects you to take a quiz and do preclass homework before you even learn about the subject in class every week. There is no book for this class so the only information is from short, non specific slides she posts. All we do in class is in class work she teaches for 10 mins then we are on our own in a 2.5 hour class that isn't a lab.
I took her online Geology class and Geology Lab obviously in the classroom and these two classes did not correlate whatsoever. I thought the lecture each week on the online class would go along with the lab that week, but I was wrong. The class isn't that bad, but definitely take them separate semesters or not with her if you like organization.
This class was only hard because of the tests, they were timed and it was really hard to get through the all of the tests on time. The labs and quizzes are very easy, you do not even need the textbooks but the tests are very hard. I only got a B because of the easy lab and quiz points. I would not take this teacher again but it wasn't horrible.
She is an amazing teacher, responds fast and is fair. She updates grades usually the next day. Grading criteria is straight forward and there is no surprises. I would take this class again. The labs don't need to be 100% correct to get a perfect, just have a basic idea of whats going on. She is a great teacher!
Ms. Iredale has set up a course that works perfectly for what I wanted in an online science class. The class is work-at-your-own-pace; as soon as you complete each section quiz with an 80% or better, you can move on to the next. Unlimited tries at quizzes, tests (3 of them), and homework. One big project, but plenty of time and clear rubric.
YOU MUST COME TO CLASS. She does think you know everything so be aware of that. She lectures before the lab. I recommend getting with a good group that is willing to help you out when needed in case the professor is busy. The labs can get confusing/difficult at times, which is why it is good to either ask a group member for help, or the professor.
This is an online class. I loved how she set it up as unlimited amount of tries(must get a B so 80% or higher to move on and for the next lecture to unlock along with quizzes/exams). It was set up to move at your own pace which was personally also very nice. Stay on track!!!
She is too much. She got like 3 to 4 quizzes thru out the week. There's also discussions posts, and there's a lab work, and Excel work to do. I would recommend to take this course online. Her work is a lot, and I would not take this course again. I wish I knew someone took her class before I stuck with it now.
Intro level class. 4 credits. Weekly: 4 part lab w/discussion and quiz, lecture with quiz (hard), AND workbook sheets (computer knowledge mandatory Excel and Google Earth). I'm a strong student, worked at least 8 hrs/week on this class. TOUGH! She does answer questions and emails. Don't leave until the last minute. Fact heavy. 3 weekly quizzes.
I took this class online and it was quite easy. It is at your own pace, which I loved. There is only one quiz and one assignment for each "week" but you have unlimited attempts to get yourself to an A (awesome, right?). There are 3 exams, but you get 2 tries for each one, and there is only one project which is basically a long powerpoint.
There's no textbook. which makes access to info limited. There is also a pre class and lecture quiz due before every class period. She is also a very tough grader so make sure you ask questions. The exams are take home, but there're hard when the only info you have are PowerPoint slides and online articles. Read the entire PowerPoint slide!
There is pre class work & quiz due before every class. There is no textbook either so, you have to take good notes on the PP slides. She is very vague with her explanations. The tests are take home but, it's all short answer. Everything in this course is subjective. I remember her saying " There is no right answer" in the beginning of the course.
I took both GEOL 1110 and 1111 online, Lindsay was a great professor. She cares about the topic and her students and has a simple grading structure that makes it easy to succeed as long as you do all the assignments and put in some effort. It was the first time the online lab was offered and it was actually enjoyable and pretty easy.
I enjoyed having Lindsay as an instructor. The class is not too homework heavy, just notes and quiz each week with an exam or project at the end of each module. She makes zoom meetings interesting and has her students engage in lots of group work which I personally like. She is however a tough grader but if you put in effort you will be fine.
Tough class to get a handle on at first, but she outlines the important concepts to grasp in her lecture slides. Lots of reading and she tests on the lecture and the book, but you get 3 chances on quizzes. Not a tough grader on Lab assignments, but if you are just doing the work to get it done, you wont pass the quizzes or test. Take good notes.
This course is definitely not a copy and paste quizlet course. Finding answers to HW and quizzes was found mostly in lecture slides and textbook. The tests (not proctored. Timed one min per Q) were more difficult though I recommend making a google doc of quizzes and HW Q's before the test it will help answer them as they share some similarities.
PowerPoint were posted for each topic with important info. Weekly quizzes and short homework assignments were based on the lectures. There are no hard deadlines except for the end of the semester, which allows you to work at your own pace. Tests are difficult, but are extremely similar to quizzes. Professor Iredale is lovely and very helpful.
This course can be tough at times, but if you pay attention to details and utilize the resources she gives you (PowerPoint lecture, video explanations, etc.), you will do fine. Lindsay shows a reasonable amount of flexibility with students and responds to emails quickly. Solid professor and class overall.
I loved Lindsey and Environmental Geology. I took the class in-person hybrid style. At home we read lectures on power point slides and took an online quiz. In total I spent about 1 hour per week on those combined. In class we did group work and took a quiz at the end. Her grading was fair. I thought it was very interesting and applicable material.
if you just want credits, take this class. but if you want to learn anything, find a different class
Looking for a class to learn about geology, not stress too hard, and do it online? Don't even consider this class then. Weekly quizzes are essentially your homework and they are everywhere. On top of that, she assigns incredibly difficult online labs that are "homework," but you take with the quiz category? This class made me rage out loud a lot.
Interesting and easy class. The weekly quizzes are heavily based on her lecture and the exams and heavily based on quiz questions. Would recommend.
I only took the lab portion of Lindsey's Environmental Geology class. The lab activities each week were interesting and engaging, and the schedule for the class was really manageable. No homework, everything is completed in groups during class time. Jen's grading method is great and encourages learning. Overall a great experience!
By far one of the best professors I ever had at Normandale! Her class consists of weekly quizzes which are very helpful and unlimited tries until deadline, exit assessments, and weekly lectures/powerpoint to read. There are 3 modules & a following exam for each completed module so 3 exams total. Exams are very similar to exit assessment & quizzes.
If you want an easy grade, while putting in low effort don't take this class online. Majority of your grade relies on your exam score. If you think you can Socratic your way through the test or assignments, no you won't. The teacher is very nice and responsive though
Professor Iredale has the entire course planned. You'll get scored immediately once you finish an assignment/quiz (you can retake them). If you take it online, you work at your own pace with soft and hard deadlines. She provides multiple ways to understand what is being taught in each chapter. Overall, take her class, as a good grade is guaranteed.
Iredale was okay. Tests were the biggest impact for grades, and labs were the most difficult part. Her notes were difficult to understand, and I had to reread them multiple times. We'd have to read all notes and assignments before each lab. When I needed help on a lab, she did explain it clearly and then I was able to understand.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! The grading system for this class is so confusing you won't know where you stand till the end of class. The content is difficult for it being a 1101 class. The feedback provided is extremely vague and doesn't help you at all.
This class was so hard for an 1100 level. 3-4 assignments due each chapter PLUS 3-4 quizzes. Her "lectures" are just powerpoints, so no real instruction for anything but the labs. Overall, a huge amount of work for an entry class, but she is very nice and will help if you ask. She also gives multiple tries on most assignments, so you can catch up.
Amazing professor!!! could not have asked for anyone better. She is one of the best professors I have had. If any one is looking for a Geology teacher I would suggest her 100%. She is so kind and respects everyone. Very helpful! I just could keep going on about how great she is!!!
Professor Iredale is excellent; no complaints. When I had any problems, I could schedule a meeting with her and discuss what I needed to do. Her lectures taught me so much, and all the work seemed meaningful. Advanced knowledge checks are easy as long as you do the work and do the labs. Just do the work and you will pass.
Very tough grader. We had assignments for each unit, but you got multiple attempts on each one which was nice. The only thing about it was that she was very vague in her feedback and made it very difficult to earn a 'complete'. Your grade was based solely on completions, but they were very hard to come by in Advanced Knowledge Checks.
Lindsey was so chill if you understood what was expected for you. She wrote the online textbook she provides, which means she really understands what we are expected to know. She really wants all her students to succeed and gives you multiple chances to do so. If you reach out and talk to her, she will help you. There is a lot of reading, beware.
The grading system is unique but fair, making class enjoyable. She's easygoing and clear about expectations. Pro tip: Don't save AKCs for the end of the semester—she grades them harshly. All-in-all, I enjoyed the class.
Extremely convoluted grading system, if you miss 5 out of the 41 short quizzes, the max you can get is a C. She also runs lectures to the last minute so there's no time to complete graded assessments that you can only do 1 per class of. Nice lady but not a good teacher.
HORRIBLE. Absolutely DO NOT TAKE!! I got my first ever B in this class because she was unclear about the grading criteria! Straight 4.0 in High School and kept it at Normandale for two years, then lost it with her class. You're not able to see your grade throughout and it's completely determined on the Advanced Knowledge Checks, which are SO hard.
Odd grading system but shows multiple diagrams to help explain and goes over it in class MULTIPLE TIMES. Explains the material well but you CANNOT miss class (requirement). Each test has a rubric for the topic and it is open book. For tests, focus on what you feel is your strongest and ALWAYS attempt one each week. Easy B but hard A. Great class!!
I know the grading system is intimidating, but it works in the students favor. Lindsay wants all her students to get an A. She actually cares that her students learn, instead of regurgitating facts. There are multiple chances to re-do assignments, as long as you get the work done in a timely manner. Take this class if you actually want to learn!!!
