Dr. Huang is a really nice teacher who always greets her students with a bright smile. She is always glad to help you in whatever problems you are having. I took her for both of my semesters in Organic Chemistry. She is very fair and understanding. It was a fun class.
She is one the best teachers i've ever had. very helpfull:)
Great lady but accent is a little difficult to understand at first. Tough class but she will help you in any way you can. Study..
Prof. Huang is a very pleasant professor. Always smiles. She sincerely wants her students to master the material and is always available to help them. But she is not an easy teacher. Study hard and be satisfied with a B.
I really didn't like her teaching. She has a tiny voice and an accent. I left the class with absolutely no understanding of the material. I basically studied from the book, her lectures didn't help at all. She's a very nice and helpful person, just a bad lecturer.
First off, Dr. Wang is a very nice teacher-always has a smile. But she is a very bad lecturer. Her lectures are all over the place. Didn't learn a damn thing.
I'm not so sure she's the fairest professor. From experience, she was unfair. She deducted points from me while giving full credit to others for the same mistakes. I think gives preference to certain students. She may smile all the time, but it's not enough to keep her as a prof. Avoid her.
Ling is very helpful always. She'll answer you almost all questions. Her exams are hard and sometimes tricky. She also makes mistakes in grading once in a while. She is not a good lecturer though because she's not really good at explaining stuffs. Sometimes she also goes over the materials too fast that she'll rush over them for the upcoming exams.
Very nice person who knows her stuff. That being said, she is a worhtless lecturer with rediculously high expectations. You can count on quizes full of things you have never seen before in class. I am a straight A student but could only manage a B with this instructor - and I've never worked harder in a class.
Dr. Huang is not an ideal professor for Organic Chem, especially if this is your first time taking an org chem course. Her lectures are unorganized, and unclear, and will not prepare you for quizzes and exams very well. It's true that she is a nice and friendly person, but that's not going to help get an A in her course.
She always smiles and is easy to approach. Her notes may be a little unorganized, but she does cover the main points of the chapters. She is hard grader but willing to curve. She has high expectations of her students, which can either raise them up or kill them. So, work hard and hard, or die: it's your choice.
Quizzes are freakishly difficult, and expect to see things you've never thought possible. She's a very good/nice professor, but the things she thinks up are crazy. To sum up, she covers the "fundamentals" in lecture and then expects you to do some critical thinking on her quiz/tests. Hardass class, prepare to meet your maker and lose that 4.0...
Her quizzes and exams are sooooooooooo hard, and it can kill your grade. if you are a ok student, don't even think about taking her at all.her expectation are so high that you can't reach them. i would highly recommend not to take her overall. take this class somewhere else but not with her.
She is a great teacher. She always smiles and has willing to answer your questions, even they are "dump" questions. She is so nice and helpful. The tests are always hard, but you have to understand this class is required for chem major or medical major so that it must be a hard class. Anyway, u should study really hard and will be ok if u r an "ok"
You know Ochem is hard, but taking this class with her is unjustifiably difficult. She's a bit paranoid, and grades unfairly at times, but if you can pass this class, you WILL KNOW Ochem. It's recommended that you take her since a vast majority of the class have taken and passed the ACS examniation (rec after completing ochem). ACS class avg: 89%
Difficult to understand. When the difference between alkanes, alkenes and alkynes is important, as in this class, and she cannot clearly pronounce the difference it is highly detrimental to learning. Also she misused phrases, saying one thing while meaning its opposite. Trests are difficult, look for many trick questions. Do not reccomend.
Super hard class... Teacher makes everything seem really easy 'cause she is smiling the whole time but it's totally hard when you get to the tests and quizzes. She's an extremely picky grader. Grades are not curved. With some studying you can get a C. She rarely every gives an A. If you have this professor... GOOD LUCK. B/c you'll need it!
excellent
A very difficult subject. She helped me a lot and as a result i scored high on the ACS exam.
Huang is a very nice teacher, especially a great tutor if you can ask your questions in her office hour. She doesn't have neat notes on the board, but you can make it neat on your own notebook. The way I like her is because she always explains why things go that way, not just let you superficially memorize everything. Hard quizzes and exams!
Professor Huang is a very good teacher. She is a tough grader and has high expectations of her students. Ochem is tough. You can succeed in her class if you put 15-20 hours/week. If you can't then it's not her fault you didn't do well. There is a reason why most of her students do well on the ACS. enough said.
It took me a lot of time, but finally I understood the mechanics. The quizzes and exams are fair. The professor explains material well, and I did much better than I thought I was going to do, thanks to the teaching.
The semester has not even ended yet and she is just a pain. She is the lab teacher, and she is super hard if your even just a tad bit off the answer. It is difficult to understand her and she talks very soft. She only addresses the easy stuff and let you struggle with the hard stuff. Mind you, the easy stuff my 5 year old sister could learn on her
I found the lab teacher to be helpful and took much time explaining the material for the lab. She made it easier for me to learn and catch up.
Professor Huang is the best lab instructor I've never had. She is helpful, caring, and friendly. Highly recommend Professor Huang for chemistry.
She's nice & helpful if you ask but not the best teacher in terms of clarity and explanations. I had to read the book word for word to be able to fully understand the material. She speaks to low to hear sometimes and her accent doesn't help. She makes the topic seem easy and avoids going into depth. Try to avoid her if possible.
Difficult subject - excellent teacher. Enjoyed the lab. Quizzes and exams are difficult.
Professor Huang is one of the nicest persons out there. Organic chemistry is difficult but she was very helpful. She's very knowledgeable about what she teaches and will help you in a heartbeat, but you have to also do your part and study. Dont expect an easy A or even a B if you dont put in the work. I would take her for 421 if she taught it.
She was very nice and VERY willing to help you understand. Unlike most Chemistry teachers, she is actually happy all the time and laughs a lot. I really liked her.
Chem 420 is my most interesting class in SCC .Difficult material, but Prof.Huang explains them clearly. However, you must thoroughly understand bc quizzes and exams q's require your thinking, not just mere(stupid) memorization.*note:if you get A in this class, you must be very proud of yourself bc that is an true level A.Prepare to work hard or FAIL.
she is a very kind and caring professor and is more than happy to help with any questions. her lectures a little messy, she writes on the board. her quizzes/exams are difficult bc they require a lot of critical thinking and not just memorization. hard work is a MUST. i took ochem @csus, it was easy but i dropped. this was actually HARDER!!
Took Dr.Huang in Chem420 and am currently taking her for Chem421. You will like O.Chem bc of her. She makes O.Chem fun. 3 exams total + 1 ACS final. Her exams are hard and always contain shocking problems. Study and memorize your rxns bc u will need them everytime for her hard synthesis problems. She is extremely helpful and lenient. A is possible.
The course was taught by 2 instructors over the summer. Both were excellent. I did very well and hope to continue to take more chemistry classes. I found some of the exams and tests difficult, but the grading was fair - and I was allowed to correct some of the mistakes. Great class. Great instructor. Very patient.
I took Pro.Huang for both 420&421, and was happy in both classes. Her classes were always interesting, thought-provoking and challenging, especially with tests. The tip to succeed in her class is to prepare before class. Read the book! Do homework! Take good notes! DO NOT MISS CLASS. "A" grade is only for those who work their way out of class.
I took professor huang for both 420 and 421. She was a nice professor, always approachable. Her tests were challenging, but the amount of overall points that you can earn in the class will make up for whatever you miss. Study hard though, she is not an easy teacher ;)
MESSY lecture notes, but do ALL the problems in the txtbook and u should do fine on exams. Have 2 know ur stuff inside&out, challenging crit thinking problems, but ACS exam for final (easy). Gives bonus points to make up for the HARD exams, easy grading in lab, but lab EXAM challenging. LOVE her tests; HARD but u really learn ur stuff. :)

Such a challenging class with lots of ochem rules you need to remember. She has messy lecture notes. She will cover all the mechanisms you need, but it is up to you to study, understand and apply them to her synthesis problems. Tests are multiple choice and free response. I struggled a lot with lecture material, but the lab portion saved my grade!
Very, very nice professor. She's extremely approachable, and knows her stuff really well. Her quizzes are rough, and her tests are extremely tricky. You have to seriously know your stuff. Ochem will be tough no matter where you take it; it'll be the ACS in the end for the final. Since it's universal, focus on learning the topic well.
Ochem is a hard subject, but she teaches it well. Her whiteboard lecture is a bit messy- even she admits it, but you can rewrite them neatly, everything you need to know is there. Definitely can get an A in this class, you need to work for it though. If her notes are unclearyou want to ask about a scenario, she will always be willing to explain!
She teaches this class well. Her lectures can be boring because of her quiet voice. I got sleepy a couple times. She does explain each concept clearly. Notes are taken in class from the handout notes she sends to you. There is online homework so there are due dates for it. Overall, the class is not that stressful and you can easily pass the class.
She is so kind and you can tell that she wants everyone to pass. She was kind of hard to understand at first, but you get used to her accent. Her lectures are long and there's a lot of material covered, but it's way better than reading the book, so go to class! She curves the tests. Lab hours look long, but realistically lab is only about an hour.
She is the best chemistry teacher I have ever known. She always care and helpful. Her lecture is comprehensive and clear. The lab and research project help us to feel confidence applying knowledge to master manipulation of matter. We can't imagine how much she has been doing for us. We are very lucky having her in Sacramento City College.
Professor Huang is one of my favorite professors. Always willing to explain until you understand a concept. Very helpful and wants to help you pass.
Don't get me wrong the teacher cares about her students however she doesn't understand how to fully simplify complicated material such as chem. She does have a doctorate in the subject but forgets that her students don't. Teaches directly from a confusing book. Doesn't know how to summarize information. Will cram as much as she can into 1 lecture.
Professor Huang is a really nice teacher, she'll help you with any questions you have. But her homework (which is both online and written), and her test questions are worded in confusing ways.
She is very quite and doesn't speak very loud. When you approach her she looks past you like you should know the stuff at her level go home and study. Her exams are longer than time allowed to finish. Would not take her class if I was to re register for this class.
Speaks too quietly to hear. Must buy expensive software for homework. When I went to office hours for clarification she said it's in the book. Gives 1 example of a concept and moves on. Did not look up to answer student's questions. She said her lectures are bad. If you want to pass be prepared to teach yourself with the book and internet.
If You come in expecting that you will be okay even though people told you not to take this class, then you are wrong. I am straight A student, and I usually spend about 20-30 hours every week studying for this class. But all of that studying goes in waste when you barely get a 50% on the quizzes. I would not take it if I were you. Take Reese.
1)100% self-taught class 2) 20+ hrs of studying does not help. You can never be prepared for her tricky exams. I spend so much time teaching myself, that I have little time to study 3)She cannot provide resources/ tips to help you succeed in ochem 4) online hwk program does not help! 5) Don't take her if you want an A! I have a C at the moment.
AVOID HER
After that horrible lab exam, I think I cannot even get a C in this class. You would expect her to be lenient since people are doing very bad in the class right now, but nope. She is making everything even more harder now. The lab exam was very long, worded weirdly. It was very difficult because I could not understand the questions.
Of course, during our year, she had to make everything hard. People got 40s and 50s on the lab exams, and I think I never felt anxious to get a C class in any class. I don't even know if I will make it 421. I studied so much, but it was all a waste. She needs to curve cuz this aint UC and the professors at UCs curve.
if her final is the ACS where students are compared nationwide for their knowledge on ochem, she should prep us well but nope. The way she teaches to her hard exams and grading MAKE no logical sense. You will go through the semester questioning why she does what she does---she lacks passion for teaching and her students. Rob us of our education!
Dr. Huang is a very nice lady. She is a dr. in this subject however & seems to have lost her ability to recognize difficulty levels & what is appropriate for a beginning ochem class. unfortunately, Dr. Huang expects too much of her students. it felt like the only way to really succeed this semester was to be taking this class alone.
Hardest class I've ever take. Tests and quizzes are way too hard. Make sure you read the textbook and watch youtube videos cuz only the lecture is not enough. Join the beacon. It worth 10 extra credits and you definitely need it. The online homework is totally useless.
ASK QUESTIONS, once someone asked her to clarify a concept & she spent the rest of lecture explaining. I couldnt go to OHs but she replies to emails. Lab exam easy, not much critical thinking. Quizzes can be tricky. Read the book. Do corrections for everything & confirm them with her. EC & exam correction gave me 4% grade boost. Good prep for UC.
She is truly one of the nicest ladies I have ever met, but I had a huge issue hearing her during any lecture because she doesnt talk very loud. Exams are tough and quizzes are tougher. Class examples and hw are not reflected on the exams.
Professor Huang was such an amazing professor. I had her for Chem 305 and shes probably one of better professors out there. Shes very understanding when it comes to homework and quizzes. Shell extend homework quizzes if needed to help students succeed in class. She just is so accepting as a professor
Took Dr. Huang for both semesters of ochem and really loved the class. She's a great professor that genuinely cares for her students and her class is a great environment for learning. Her quizzes/exams are tough only if you didn't study; but if you have good study habits, doing well in this class shouldn't be hard. I highly recommend her for ochem
Ms. Huang is an amazing professor. She is very flexible with the days for quizzes. She let the class use a 3x5 index card for chapter tests but not the final. She goes through the material very fast because theres a lot to cover within a days lecture. However, she slows down and gives a more thorough explanation when questions are asked.
She is one of the most caring and patient professor I've ever seen. CHEM 400 is a vigorous course and please do yourself a favor by setting the right expectations from day one. Know your polyatomic ions, chem calculations, see tutors, and read the chapters before coming to class, it will help you a lot. Prof. Huang is there to guide you! Recommend!
Very sweet lady, however not a great professor. Homework and studying does not reflect quizzes. Does not review for quizzes or exams. Does not curve or offer extra credit. I spent almost every day of the week studying for her class thinking I knew the material and I still received D's and Fs on quizzes. Do not recommend taking this class.
Dr Huang is clear from the beginning that Chem 305 is a really tough class. She has even said that she wonders if 5 units is enough for it. There is a LOT to learn. If you want to be successful, it's important to read the book, go to lecture, ask questions, and do the homework. Her quizzes and exams are tough, but the labs are pretty chill.
Very sweet lady. Lectures at times lacked clarity, and I found myself relying pretty heavily on the textbook in order to fully understand the information. Make time to read the textbook and do the homework on top of going class to fully understand the material. Lab was pretty relaxed. If you make time for the class, an A or B is attainable.
Professor huang is a tough grader. Lots of surprises on tests and quizzes and are confusing. She trys to teach fast to get done, speaks supeeerrrr low and unclear. And forget about hearing her in lab because thats not going to happen! No study guides , or curves! Extra credit seems impossible but is offered. If you can take someone else do it!
Im a 4.0 student at Sac city im great in studying but somehow this lady knocked me down hard. Her lab exam was brutal. Questions were not in the lab material, but in a ochem lab textbook not offered in the course. This class is alot of memorization, flashcards is a must. You have to be ahead or you will be behind. When she says easy, it won't.
AVOID HER! She does not know how to teach her lectures are poor and almost not worth showing upto i went evryday
The lab exam is easy if you paid attention to your procedure. The tests are easier than the quizzes. If you do the online hw and understand how to do it, it will help you finesse the quizzes if you take your time. I think her tests are medium difficulty. They're not tricky. Skim the Second Language book before class.
Squeaky voice lecturing too fast. Hardest O chem teacher. I drink a Bang and study my butt off, I read the chapters twice. Practice a lot of questions, still fail her exams. Average score on her exams are around 60 percent. People drop out of her class. If you think you have an ego and smart enough to take a challenge, her you go. But I warned you!
She is a good Professor but her lectures are so boring and she tries to fit in everything a within 15min right after a quiz. The main thing I learned in this class was how fast can I copy the work before she is done. She speaks very soft and mostly too quiet but she does give credit for chem lab work- it doesn' need to be correct it, just finished.
Probably the best Professor at SCC shes tough, I was doing bad when class started then after talking to her she made me realize I can do better she will talk to you she will communicate with you she will teach you perfectly if youre willing to learn I ended up with a B. I took her for both years and learned a lot from her. Thank you you rock.
I originally had professor atkins for my chem 305 choice but unfortunately was switched to professor huang. Even though I got switched, I greatly recommend professor huang! Shes caring and yes she does speak very quietly, but her lectures were super easy to get by. She also allows you to use a notecard for quizzes and also an 8 x 11 for the final.
Really nice and understanding professor. Lecture attendance isn't necessary but you should still go. Try to keep up with the homework and sit in the front. Try not to be late because her voice is quiet and any sound prevents you from hearing her. Highly recommend her! Do your work and study, she may allow note cards!
Dr. Ling Huang is an excellent Professor. I took her Chemistry 305 class in Fall 2019 and it was challenging. However, Dr. Huang is always willing to help when you struggle. Lectures are straightforward. I will suggest to always show up to her lecture and Lab. Dr. Huang also offers extra credit. Dr. Huang, thank you for everything.
Professor Huang is really an incredible professor. Shes incredibly smart and she explains things really thoroughly and throws in jokes from time to time. You def. have to maintain your effort to do well, but she is so flexible and supportive I cant imagine not having her as a prof. It was an online summer class so lectures were recorded too!
Prof Huang is AWESOME! I have attempted to take chemistry twice before, and both times I ended up dropping the course because the teacher was horrible. Prof Huang made chemistry interesting and enjoyable to learn. She really cares about the success of her students. Don't expect an easy A, but if you put in the effort, she WILL help you do great!
Quiz worth 30 points every 1 to 2 weeks, 2 200 point tests, one 300 point final, aleks homework, labs due every week, and a lot of extra credit! This Professor records her lectures and posts them, super clear with whats on the tests/quizzes. If you pay attention and do all the assignments its very easy to pass. Professor is very nice as well!
Prof Huang was amazing!! I havent taken any Chem class since HS, but she did great with the lectures and was always quick to respond whenever I emailed her. Gives extra credit and will always help you. Weekly chapter quiz/lab, 3 exams, and 1 final and 1 big lab report. Good load of hw depending on chapter unit, but she will extend if needed.
I would not say Professor Huang was difficult it was more so the work. Chemistry is hard and is my weakest spot. I thought I could pass without asking for help but once I hit a D, I knew I would need help and Professor Huang always was easy-going and understanding. She has a quiet voice but other than that, AMAZING. I wish i could take her again.
Very disrespectful professor. Talks super quietly so you can't hear her very well and when you ask for clarification she gets upset so going to her for help is highly intimidating. Class is based on a lot of memorization so you either know the material or you don't. She's shown a lot of microaggression too so caution if you're a poc.
Dr. Huang is an amazing professor. Chemistry is a pretty difficult subject, but she made it easily digestible. She provided lecture notes and explained the materials thoroughly. She clarified anything you had questions on in office hours and lab days. She has a sense of humor and she's so sweet. I wish she taught other science courses!
I took this teacher in spring 2023 and she was amazing. One thing I didn't like was that she speaks very quitely, but overall she teaches very well. She cares about you learning, but also about you passing the class. It's a difficult class but the professor makes it easy.
Professor Huang is awesome! First, the class is hard. ANY organic chemistry class will be hard. She made it a lot better though. She is really understanding and open. She doesn't doc points off if you turn things late. The class is usually curved and she often offers quiz / test corrections to help out. Oh also sometimes extra credit. Best Prof!!!
I'm taking her for Spring 2024 semester, online and in person. She's very kind and softspoken! I don't know why some people are writing so many bad things about her when she's literally the sweetest and most understanding. She lets you make up work you missed or did terrible on. She wants you to pass the class. Just make sure you complete your work
The best professor ever She was very understanding. When I first saw her rate, I was nervous, but it was nothing like what I actually experienced. I think her voice and accent were okay. when I was sick, she was willing to accept late work. Just homework and one lab per week, and also quizzes. The rest are three exams, with one being the final.
The professor does a poor job of teaching. She brushes over important topics while emphasizing minor concepts. She falls behind during lecture so gives extra lecture videos to “catch up”. The examples in class and homework are not representative of questions found on exams. You have to self-teach to keep up (if you even can). Take precaution!
Professor Huang was absolutely amazing and caring. It's obvious that she wants you to succeed and does her all to ensure that you do! For our class she gave us extra credit opportunities and curved multiple exam scores, allowing us to get a passing grade! I was excited to come to her class every Friday even if it was an 8 AM.
The reviews are not really great although she is caring, she doesn't actually teach well and makes the course really difficult, I learned more in Chem 309 and it was much easier. I don't recommend her unless you want to teach yourself everything. Your choice.
Overall, the professor is caring and understanding. Is willing to accommodate to the class. Uploads lecture videos weekly and provides outlines to take notes, which helps. However, this is not an easy class. Allows a cheat sheet for exams, even with that, tests are still hard. Exams are not curved. Offers extra credit opportunities.
This professor was amazing. Lecture notes are important as they have info needed for exams. Homework can be challenging, but she will answer all your questions. She does reviews before exams which are helpful, she also gives plenty of extra credit, both for going to a tutor and other opportunities. She is willing to work with you to improve grades.
He is a wonderful professor I will highly recommend him
She wants you to succeed and that was my favorite thing about her class. She is great with answering emails and questions. She is very soft spoken making it hard to hear her and her tests were confusing sometimes but she gave us 50 xtra credit points at the end of the year. If you do the homework and try, you'll get the grade you want.
