EASY CLASS!! Great teacher!!
Great precal teacher. Very helpful.
i hated her! she was nearly impossible to understand, and she would not even stop to answer questions that students asked her. she was truly the worst teacher i have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
Dr. Ma was not the most approachable person in the world but was one of the best math teachers that I have ever had. Senior, Microbiology major

No partial credit!
I couldn't understand a word she said.
VERY EASY CLASS, just do the homework because you won't be able to understand much that she says, you might eventually catch on though.

She's really boring...make sure you attend class on quiz and test days and you'll be fine if you don't go any other times. She drops the lowerst test but doesn't tell ya till near the end of the semester. Just learn the material from the book, not her.
I think she was a pretty good teacher. I am suprised that people wrote such bad things about her. I could understand her fine, though she does have an accent. Go to class and do the homework and you'll be fine. I would take her class again.
Pretty hard to understand, but always there to help. This class was boring and hard, but I hate math personally.
Easiest Calc teacher, test questions come straight from the homework. I had her for two semesters and was an easy class. Sit at the front and you'll be able to understand her better. She's really nice and will offer bonus points. I would def. recommend her for Calculus.
Her english wasn't perfect but nonetheless she was still a great professor. She was always willing to give extra credit points if you wrote problems on the board. If you do her homework and pay attention to her examples it is an easy A.
The class is very easy to understand IF you keep up with the homework. Dr. Ma pulls all of the quiz and test material from the homework assignments. She is usually easy to understand and is open to taking questions.
She was very nice and helpful for those who did not understand the material. I would consider her to be one of the better math teachers i have had in college. She gives lots of grades too, so the course grade does not come from tests alone.
she is a very sweet lady, it's actually NOT difficult to understand her at all, despite other's comments. the class is average difficulty, you have to study but it is far from impossible and she is very willing to help.
She was a nice lady, but she was very difficult to understand. I could tell that she tried to teach where the students could understand the subject, but it was not a sucessful mission. I think that it depends on each students level of math comprehension, also.
Ma is hard to understand, she gets an attitude with students in class, and she takes off points for the dumbest****. Math modeling is a slack class and everyone knows that. She might as well give up being a **** and pass out more A's and B's. **** her.
she was kind of hard to understand, but the thing that made me mad were her tests. my quiz average was almost 100, i missed 2 days, and i still only passed one test. it was like she tried to make them extra hard. i was never good at math, but i figured this class would be a piece of cake. it wasnt.
She isn't hard to understand. You just have to actually attempt to listen to her lecture. The class is insanly easy if you have any calculator knowledege, but she's really helpful and does everything to help you. I would definatly take her class.
She is pretty easy to understand if you listen to her. The material is so basic, none of it is very difficult to learn. Maybe not the easiest teacher for MATH 1101, but the course is so easy anyway it's not hard to get an A.
awful. have to listen too hard. eh...boo.
She did not teach stuff that was helpful for JExam tests I taught myself everything!
She's not hard to understand, everyone just stereotypes her from the second she opens her mouth. She's give you hw each night & if you do it, they're all on test. And the person who said she needs to start passing out more A's and B's. You're an idiot.Grades arent "passed out" don't blame the teacher cause you did poor in the easiest class offered.
Dr. Ma is an excellent professor. I was scared of calculus, and it has been pretty tricky at times, but she offers a lot of help during her office hours. If you do the homework, you will know what will be covered on the test. She is easy to understand and is very helpful! Great!
Great prof! she is nice, smart, and cheerful! Her tests are seriously JUST LIKE THE HW! plus, she offers extra credit for doing problems on the board. MAKE SURE U DO YOUR HOMEWORK consistently!!! Take her!!!
The class isn't too bad. You have to keep up with homework if you want to do well on the tests. She gives extra credit if you do problems on the board. Go to her office hours to get a better understanding of the material if you are struggling. Overall a decent class.
Not exactly an easy class...I did really bad on the first test. She grades SO HARD. She does not think twice about taking off full credit for one tiny mess up. It's not exactly hard material, but she makes it a lot harder than it needs to be. BUT, she is a very smart lady and knows what she is talking about. be sure to do the hw.
If I did all the things students are suppose to do like study and glance at the HW then i could probably get an A. Actually I might just get an A anyway. Just make sure you learn the material; if you are smart enough to get accepted to the school then you should have no problem getting an A in this class if you kinda apply yourself.
Not bad but take Coverdill, I hear he's ridiculously easy.
Overall, Dr. Ma isn't too bad. Her lectures are pretty straight forward and not too hard to understand. DO THE HOMEWORK. It helps your grade and the questions on the test are identical to the HW problems.
I'm definitely a Math person, but this class was hard for me to get motivated about (especially waking up early). Dr. Ma definitely knows what she is talking about but was hard for me to understand at first and wasn't all that helpful during problem sessions. If you try hard you can get an A, but I would recommend taking someone else.
Dr. Ma is a nice lady and really knows her stuff. however, her four tests and final exam were really hard and time consuming. she absolutely does not use easy questions. the tests reflect the hw, but they are not identical questions. so do the hw! having a good hw grade can really help your grade. be ready to apply yourself if you take this class.
I withdrew from this class because I had no chance of passing after two tests. Her english is very shakey and refuses to repeat herself. I would ask for help and she usually would try but I could never understand her. Withdrawing from the class is the best thing I did all semester.
Taking this class was by far the worst academic decision I ever made. Professor Ma somehow managed to turn a 1000 level math class into Hell simply because the woman literally cannot speak english. If you are a math person and this sort of thing comes easy to you, then you will be ok. If you need any form of explanation or help, RUN from this lady.
At the beginning of the semester, Dr. Ma was helpful and her tests weren't bad, but after the Midpoint Withdrawal Deadline she started to make the class a lot more difficult than it should have been---the information on the tests started to drift away from the homework assignments and it a lot more difficult.
The woman barely speaks English and sometimes if you ask a question in class she will not answer it. Tests and quizzes are hard and doing the homework only helps a little. She will screw you over. i.e. if you are absent the day before spring break she will give the formulas you have to have for the project.
sh'es nice but Her accent is irritating and distracting. going to class helped. Luckily, I took calc in high school so i had seen most of the material before, so I pulled off an A-. I wouldn't recommend her unless you can teach yourself well and require little explanation because she is not helpful.she has an attitude when you ask questions.
SHE DOES NOT SPEAK ENGLISH!! she is very rude and cold if you ask for help and she will not answer questions in class. the absolute worst teacher i have every had! if you care about getting a good education or a good grade do not take her class!
Dr. Ma is a horrible woman! She hardly speaks English and never wanted to answer questions! I can tell she knows the material but she gets irritated with student initiative. I still made my A but I had to work damn hard to get it by getting tutoring & learning on my own! I do admit she omits the lowest quiz grade but still, DO NOT take her class!
Her English is fine, she just has a dry personality. Don't ask too many questions. Homework and attendance are not mandatory. There are 4 or 5 announced quizzes and 4 tests. The tests aren't difficult; the material is easy to understand. I never went to class and just read the book prior to the tests and made an A-. There are 2 projects.
Ma is a good professor. she knows the material like the back of her hand, but i found myself actually just trying to figure our was she was saying. it makes it to where you have to pay attention every single second of every day, or you are lost. they use JExam so it sucks. do the hw ahead of time and come in with questions.
She was a little hard to understand at some times (shes foreign) but other than, she completely prepares you for tests. Very nice, willing to help. Attendance was mandatory at first but she forgets to get you to sign in. I made an A in the class, with just a little effort. I recommend her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I am not one of those students who writes bad reviews for teachers when they get a bad grade b/c I got an A in her class. Even though I got my A she's a mean teacher. She hates to answer questions. I had to get tutoring just to keep up! You can hardly understand her accent. Do yourself a favor and take someone else!
It was a simple class, even if you're terrible at math. Attendance isn't mandatory and the quizzes/tests resemble the bookwork (not mandatory) and what she explains in class. Her English is extremely good and she has a dry sense of humor. She drops your lowest test grade and quiz grade. I loved Dr. Ma :) Easyyy A.
Typical decent math teacher with a funny Chinese-accent (the palabola is brinking!). Class starts with review of last night's homework, notes on the latest section, and then a quiz based on the previous lesson. Dry sense of humor and is occasionally annoyed with having to teach college math for dummies. An easy A/B if you do the HW and study.
If you can, take someone else. If you can't, keep up with the homework and make sure she answers your questions. Sometimes she might mock you, and sometimes she might not understand. Expect the one thing you have difficulty with to be worth 15 points on the test and for the first half-hour of class to be homework review. Most classes end in a quiz.
Quiz at end of every class. 4 tests and she'll replace your lowest if do better on final. 2 projects- one individual and one group. Overall pretty good teacher. Do homework so you can ask questions the next day in class. Her handwriting and teaching is really clear so you can follow along fairly well.
I would recommend taking someone else. You can obtain a good grade if you do the homework and study. Beware, this professor does get irritated if you ask too many questions regarding the homework. If you are struggling, either utilize her office hours or get a tutor. Her willingness to help leaves a little to be desired.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR MA! She is not helpful at all, her accent is very thick, therefore she is difficult to understand, and she is very impatient with students when they need help or ask a question in class. If you are a student that is not strong in math and absolutely need assistance, this professor is not the one for you.
Very difficult to understand, and not good with extra help. You either teach yourself the information or previously understand it. There's not a lot of class questions and she moves very very quickly. I would not recommend her.
You need to do the homework and come to class everyday to pass this class. There's a quiz at the end of the every class and these grade's can be helpful at the end. Do the homework so you can ask questions the next day. She's not really into answering too many questions during class, so come back during her office hours.
Very hard to understand and she beats around the bush a lot. She explains well, for math-minded people. She will not answer questions in class and instead refers you to her "office hours." Do not take her!!!
This professor is terrible. I had let her know on more than one occasion that I was struggling, but she basically flat-out refused to help. You cannot understand her. She laughs at "stupid" questions and is sometimes rude. I spend 7 hours 1 day in tutoring, and when i asked her to let me re-do a homework assignment, she refused. ABYSMAL EXPERIENCE.
A lot of people complain about Dr. Ma, but really, she is not a bad teacher. Sure, she is hard to understand at times, linguistically, but she knows her stuff, and at times even oversimplifies lessons. Really, if you have trouble in this class, you have trouble with math and will probably have a problem with any professor you have.
Dr. Ma is one of the better pre-cal professors here. Do all the hw so when you go to class, she will go over the ones you couldnt do the night before, pay attention in class, bcs she cuts to the chase, teaches you the easy way to solve the problem and answers qs. very helpfl & nice lady! i wld take her agn for any math!
She was AWFUL. Math 1101 should be really easy, but not with her. It is hard to understand her and pay attention. She is mean with students. She has no sympathy for those who miss a test or quiz no matter the circumstance. Sure she is smart. I would recommend not taking her, from what I hear pretty much all the other Math 1101 teachers are easier.
She is an awful teacher! AVOID! All my friends had way easier 1101 teachers.. LISTEN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
Though I ended up with an A in this class, I would not recommend this professor. She is hard to understand and is often degrading to students asking questions. Her tests are much harder than the homework and her lectures do not prepare you. The projects do help bring your grade up but it does not seem worth having this professor.
Pre-Calc! So Easy. Kind of hard to understand at times but was very approachable and would answer ANY questions. Little woman about 5 feet tall. Don't be intimidated by the accent. Do the online homework. Tests are exactly the same.
Horrid teacher. I dread class every day. This class has me petrified of losing my HOPE scholarship. Won't answer "stupid" questions, tests are impossible, and can't teach. Gets frustrated if you don't understand something that is "easy" for her. AVOID.
She is a bit difficult to understand and sometimes refuses to answer questions. If you suck at math, I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're okay at the subject, you shouldn't have a problem making an A. Gives quizzes everyday. Curves grade at end of semester. And she even let me make up my final exam when I got the time wrong.
This class was not at all hard. Based on all the comments I saw I was terrified to take her, but I have a 100 in her class. She has an accent but I have never misunderstood a word she has said. Do the homework and you will ace the test. She no longer gives quizzes and she doesn't take attendance, but I recommend going to class to learn the material
Dr. Ma is a dreadful teacher that refuses to answer questions in class. I hated that class and dreaded it everyday. The 2 projects are easy for Math Modeling, but the tests are ridiculous.
Professor Ma is a good teacher! All of these reviews about her are inaccurate. She helps you in class if you don't ask her a question she's answered three times. And it's Math, if you're not good at it, and you don't come to class, you don't do well. It's not her fault. And her accent is not hard to understand.
stat 4360 is SAS class. She si not stat prof, but nath prof. She never know about SAS
Take this teacher if you like to teach yourself. Otherwise, don't be expected to be hand carried through problems. The problems on the test are pretty much replicas over the class examples. My advice: go to class, take notes and spend 30 minutes over the material a day and you will get an A. She also offers extra credit if the class average is low.
Ma is not helpful at all. Do not take her. All she does is work out problems and doesn't explain anything.
Not helpful, even doing the hw and going to class, you can still fail the tests.
Not the worst professor here, but she definitely makes this class harder than it needs to be.
she takes attendance sometimes, gives notes that are only problems and a couple formulas and she expects you to understand the material. she will take questions but gets frustrated easily. avoid if possible
Thick accent and not for those for who are not naturals at mas. typical crass setting and not too much work but sometimes attendance and homework is not enough, might have to get tutor or go to mls. recommend allison arnold instead
Her accent wasn't too bad, it made for an interesting "mass crass", BUT her notes were awful, and she was of no help in office hours, and there are no additional grades outside of tests as of this semester. MLC tutoring definitely helped, but it would be better just to avoid taking Ma in the first place.
These reviews are a little harsh. If you are any good at math and pay attention in class, you'll do great. The only thing that bothered me was her attitude about answering questions. Regardless, good notes + assigned (but not graded) practice problems = A+, my friend.
She was a nice lady but sometimes difficult to understand, you get used to it. I ended up having to go to tutor 3 days a week as well as office hours. Office hours are the way to go, she will help you more there. You can ask questions but she sometimes will make you feel dumb for asking.. Try to avoid..
I'm not a math person at all but ended up enjoying the class and got an A- as my final grade. If you do your homework, you'l be fine. It's really not hard and it's the fun kind of math. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS before tests...these are awesome. Her accent doesn't get in the way. I suggest Ma and this class
She is hard to understand, and does not like to take up class time explaining things further. She hates to have questions asked in class, and shuts them down after a certain point. She doesn't explain concepts well, which was awful for me, as math does not come easily to me. She does have two projects that are easy and boost your grade up a lot.
Go to class pay attention and do the homework you'll end up with an A. I understood the material so I never went to the review sessions or office hours so I can't really comment on her helpfulness. If you are not a math person dont worry because this class is pretty easy
Dr. Ma is a fabulous teacher. She will always answer your questions if you are consistently doing homework, and participating in class. DO HOMEWORK and you will make A's on all the tests. She is quick to answer questions through email, and enjoys working with students that put forth effort. I recommend taking this class. 5 stars
In my opinion the accent does get in the way. She really does make you feel dumb for asking a question - I don't understand that at all. I am having to get help from tutors three days a week and I am attending her office hours (which are more helpful than in class). If you like math then you will probably do well if not I do not recommend her.
Dr. Ma is goofy. Her accent is thick, but does not hinder her teaching. She really enjoys math, but sort of laughs at anyone who asks questions. Her projects are hit or miss and she won't really offer much help. The class itself is extremely boring and slow paced and SHOULD be an easy A if you apply yourself.
She is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Her tests are SO hard, basically impossible. This was her first year teaching calculus and if I could do it all over, I would not take this class. This class ruined my GPA. DO NOT GET MA!!!!
She is a nice lady. If you go to class and do the homework you will have no problem getting an A. I would wait until two nights before each exam to actually do the homework, but I still managed to get an A.
Dr. Ma is extremely difficult to understand. She easily becomes frustrated when asked a question and is very reluctant to help during office hours. I taught myself every concept through the book and tutor center, I went to class because it was manditory. 1101 was intense.
Mrs. Ma is something else, meaning that some days she was nice and others she wasn't. She makes you feel dumb when you ask a question. I did well on the test by teaching myself the material and going to the exam reviews. Not a hard class, but Mrs. Ma can confuse you.
Dr. Ma is an awesome teacher but just a few things: don't ask questions in class ask her after class (she's much nicer), go to the math test reviews, they help a lot. Print out the notes and follow along in class. DO THE HOMEWORK at least some of it. Her test are pretty basic and not hard. In all, she's a really good teacher but you have to work.
I really do believe that she means well, but she just isn't a good teacher. She knows the material very well which inhibits her from being able to relate to confused students. This results in her frustration as well. Tests always had surprises and office hours were worthless. She some how find the most complicated way to explain everything.
Oh man, absolutely dreadful. The language barrier causes constant misunderstanding. She misinterprets student questions and gives the wrong answers. This frustrates her as much as it frustrates her students and she doesn't deal with it with much grace at all. Painful, unfair, and just all around miserable. Do NOT take this professor.
Genuinely the worst instructor I've had in my entire schooling career. I cannot advise you enough to not take this class. Don't do it. Do not do it.
Dr. Ma was very confusing and hard to follow in class. I did the homework and aced the quizzes, but they were never like the tests. I took the class with a few of my friends and none of us passed. Beware taking this class because she is not willing to help at office hours, and will shut your questions down almost immediately.
Really confusing, is not sympathetic to the needs of the student. However, she is a very nice woman. But she is unnecessarily harsh about things and doesn't explain things clearly at all. If this class is required, definitely take it with a more helpful professor. I've heard good things about other 1113 professors.
Very hard to understand at times, but I managed because I find Pre-Calc interesting(being a Math major). Attendance is mandatory but doesn't effect your final grade much. Provides print off notes but tests are much harder than quizzes and homework. Be prepared to work hard.
She was a fine professor, and the language barrier issue has been overblown. I found her easy to understand.
She was very confusing and there was a lot of information to remember. There are a lot of notes and missing one day of class will make you fall behind. She gets mad when people ask things because she seems to think it's self explanatory. Don't take this class if you can avoid it. Really hard for basic math
After the first few weeks, you get used to her accent. However, she is VERY into teaching proofs that you don't really need, and her tests appear to be easier than they really are. Compared to my AP Calculus teacher in high school, her teaching style is a little odd, but not totally confusing. Overall, she's okay.
Her tests are easy as long as you do the HW.
At first, I was annoyed by the language barrier, but it's not too much of an issue actually. It's not an online class, but it might as well been. Test, quizzes, and homework are all done though WebAssign. If you do the required homework at a good pace, you'll do well in the class. It felt like she mostly just went over homework problems in class.
I liked Ma, I made an A in her PreCalc course and a B in her Calc course. She will help you of you go to her office hours. Do the homework and you'll be OK.
Her notes are helpful and printed out. Some of the problems she gives actually end up being on the test. She doesn't really care for questions and smileslaughs when you get questions wrong. Her accent also takes some getting used to.
She's a really sweet teacher and has lots of office hours that you could use to get help. If you do all the homework she gives, you are bound to pass the class! However, if you haven't taken calc 1 before you will need to actively ask for help in order to not fall behind in class.
She is a nice teacher. All you have to do is to take notes and finish HW. Tests are not difficult and almost from Hw.
She is the nicest professor! She has a lot of office hours and will help you. All the test and quiz questions come directly from the homework.
Dr Ma is a pretty good teacher. She gives a lot of homework and quizzes on eLC, so be prepared for that. As long as you do your homework, you should be fine with the tests. If you ask for her help, she will give it to you (She's available for office hours) Her accent takes some getting used to, but overall I would definitely take her again
Professor Ma knows the material as good as any other Calc II professor. It is still very difficult. She teaches heavily from the textbook, & it's CRUCIAL you pay attention. If I did not show up to class every day, I would have failed. Go to class. Go to the office hours. Actually DO the homework and you will be prepared for the four exams.
Calculus II with Ma was pretty easy. HW is 20%, and if you actually do it you should be able to do well on the tests. She doesn't include incredibly difficult problems that may appear in the homework. Most of her examples come straight from the textbook, though I still recommend taking notes. She will go over requested homework problems in class.
Attended every class and had a very strong background in Calculus 1, but struggled to understand her teaching methods so did not grasp any new concepts taught in her class. Did well on her homework but poorly on tests. Get ready to work and use lots of other teaching sources.
Look, this is just an extremely hard class. Ma was a decent teacher but she mostly just went over proofs and expected us to know how to do it after one example. Prepare for lots of homework and LOTS OF STUDYING. Also: if you took ap calc bc in high school and you're expecting this to be easy, DONT. I made a high a in BC and a C in this class.
Ma chooses the most difficult way to explain the concepts in class. Without the help from the grad students in the math dept tutoring no way I would have passed. It's do-able but if you really want to understand the math, don't take Ma.
You will be able to pass if you go to class. If you just rely on the textbook, you will struggle.
Professor Ma explained the concepts in the most difficult way possible. She copied her notes directly from the textbook, except, when she presents them in class she skips over a lot of useful sections.
Dr. Ma is a nice lady. And that's about where it ends. Her lectures are confusing and she is horrible with partial credit. Helpful in office hours, but class itself is horrendous.
Nice woman, not so nice of a professor. She understands the material, but struggles to make it understandable to others. Takes attendance almost daily. Plus is that her homework is the best study tool and redoing it will usually lead to success on her tests. Calc 2 isn't easy by any means, but taking it with her will make it much harder.
If you've taken Calc already, this class won't be too bad. However, if you haven't, Dr. Ma can be a little tough. She will let you ask as many questions about the homework in class, though, and gives lots of partial credit.
Ma was extremely sweet. However, her accent was hard to get used to and I felt like a lot of the time she worked out a lot of proofs. She took off kind of a lot for little mistakes on tests. She would work out any homework problem in class if asked which was super helpful. She also didn't allow any cheat sheets for tests.
Dr. Ma was not the best lecturer, but the tests in this class were not too hard. She posted the notes on ELC and took everything straight from the textbook. Homework is difficult because the textbook is not helpful at all, but Ma will help you in class if you ask her to work out a problem.
She's easy to understand. She provides multiple different ways of solving problems, with proofs given to make sure that you understand.
Ma is a good person, but not a good professor. She does not know how to operate Aleks and is more confused than the students are about operating it. The way she teaches is horrible.
Worst teacher to take for pre-calculus. Math is already hard enough at UGA she does not grade fairly if one thing is wrong she marks the whole problem wrong. Can't understand her because of her accent. Her math work on the board looks like chicken scratch and she picks such hard problems to learn off of. I had to transfer to a different class.
Worst prof I've had in my entire life. I'd rather be run over by a bus than take another class with Dr. Ma. The language barrier is super hard to get past, and she doesn't answer questions sufficiently. If you're confused, turn to other sources, because she surely won't help you. Tests are HARD, too.
Dr. Ma is one of the worst professors I've ever taken. She isn't very good at explaining things in detail from beginning to end. She often skips steps in showing how to work out problems. Even in her office hours her assistance didn't really help me get anywhere. The tests weigh the most and homework does little to help your grade.
Not the best. She is difficult to understand and her examples are not very helpful. However, she goes over homework problems which are helpful for getting your homework grade up.
Does proof based examples in class, and she was able to confuse me on subjects I thought I grasped. Worst professor I've ever had.
Yes, it's a hard class, but in my opinion, it's hard because it's calculus, not because of Dr. Ma. She's very caring and actually makes me laugh in class a lot. It's full of hard concepts to grasp but she teaches it well and makes sure you have every resource available to you.
The class is mostly hard because it's calculus, but Prof. Ma tries her best to make it easier. She is a super nice lady, but she has a very thick accent that is sometimes hard to understand. If you have a firm grasp on calculus you should be fine.
Dr. Ma is a great professor. The class is not easy, but that's because it's Calc 2. She gives you homework that could be a little tricky, but she answers questions. The tests are pretty straightforward (gives credit where she can) . If you do the homework and understand it, you'll do well. Biggest advice is understand the quizzes and homework.
Sure Calculus II is hard, but this made it worse. Big language barrier. Homework usually took me about 4 hours. Tests are extremely hard and nothing like the hw. If you didn't review math before taking class, you're screwed. First test I got 70, next I got 40 and withdrawed. Terrible experience for a freshman. Planning to retake at ggc.
Super nice and caring. Holds review sessions where she answers homework questions that are very similar to those on the actual exams. Even on exams, she will try to give you partial credit as much as she can even if you have wrong amswer at the end. If you DO your homeworks and review her notes she posts online, you should be fine with this class.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken in my life, but Dr. Ma is an incredible prof who really cares about her students. She is easy to understand and kind. If you do your homework, practice problems from the book, and go to her for feedback, you will pass. I made a 53 on an exam but still ended up with an A. Quizzes are super helpful for exam
She was a pretty decent math teacher, but I didn't really enjoy her teaching style that much. She posts everything (but the quizzes) on elc though, so that was very helpful! I can tell that she really cares about her students and if you're better at learning math on your own, I would recommend her!
l. The homework she gives is SUPER helpful, basically all I did to study and did well on every test. She's a really cute teacher but hard to understand and I would suggest if you take her to USE THE TEXTBOOK, then go back over her powerpoints and retry her problems and make sure you understand how she got to answer. Easy A if you put in the effort
Dr. Ma is the best professor I had freshman year. She loves math and that translates to joy and a fantastic mood in every class. She is constantly making sure her students understand and working to make the content as simple as possible. A common quote in our calculus class was, "We don't deserve Dr. Ma." Take Dr. Ma's class if you can.
Dr. Ma is a good math teacher. She does have an accent, but after one or two weeks you get used to it. Her homework does take a LONG time, but if you solve the homework on your own and how she intended, you will have no trouble on her tests. The only thing I did to study is re-solve homework problems and the lowest test grade I made was a 90.
Do all of your homework because it will help you in the end! She is a harsh grader, I failed the first test but got used to her grading and ended up with a B plus. Her accent isn't bad at all and she very understands if you actually talk to her. If you want an A go to tutoring !!!! Thats how I got good grades at the end.
Prof. Ma is nice and has an understandable accent, but she's a harsh grader and nit-picks your written work on the exams. I found the in-class lectures to be practically useless and relied on the homework to learn the content. She tries her best, but Calculus 2 is just a hard class in general. Expect a lot of homework in this class.
Professor Ma is a great teacher. I've taken two classes with her just cause she was the teacher. I'm okay at math, but she makes learning the material worth it. Don't get me wrong the class in general is rough but the professor has lots of resources to help you out. If you take advantage of the resources and her office hours, you will be fine.
Super sweet and caring teacher. She is willing to help her students. Do your hw and go to class bc it will pay off in the end. Lectures were hard to follow just bc of the online setup. Calc 2 is a hard class but stick it out with Dr. Ma bc she'll try to help you as much as possible.
I took Calculus 1 with Dr. Ma, and let me say, I have never had a harder time learning Calculus 1. There is no reason the rigor of this class should be so high. Attendance is "mandatory" but lectures are USELESS. Spend time learning material on your own. Be prepared to learn the HARDEST versions of each problem from each unit. Know everything.
I don't recommend Dr. Ma's class. There is so much homework (pre-class assignments and then webassign) due every night at midnight. Her lectures are generally boring and useless. Her tests and quizzes are always so hard and she writes the hardest possible questions. It would be hard to make an A if you haven't taken calc before.
She's not a bad professor at all, she knows what she's talking about and has a deep understanding of calculus. However, the pre-class assignments are a pain to do and don't prepare you that well for class. She teaches relatively well and she is a sweet and caring person. Just know that she has a thick accent which can make it hard to understand her
Literally all the material is supposed to be self taught and the only thing Dr. Ma does is do a small amount of practice problems in class. She definitely expects her students to know more than any actually do.
Dr. Ma is a great professor. I'm not gonna lie, this class is a lot of work and you really need to practice, practice, practice if you want to perform well on the exams, which are a must if you want a good grade. Definitely go to tutoring even if you are a little unsure because you can expect exactly what you are unsure about to be on the exam.
from someone who acc did good on the ap calc bc exam and retook calc 1 in college for GPA boost, this class was hell. we have pre class videos which are just questions and not teaching the material properly. tests are 6 questions, 25 point questions. work really hard to get an A. don't take this professor if u don't take this professor
Dr. Ma is a great prof! Assigns fair amount of hw (abt 40 question/week) spread over 2 due date(many can be looked up). The toughest part is the tests, but most are hw problems with more steps (very doable). She does have an accent, but to me her accent was very understandable and didn't detract from her teaching! Dr. Ma is great, take her classes!
Decent teacher and really nice, but she is just not a goat professor in my book. Ya dig.
Many people overlook Dr. Ma. Although she is a genuine professor and a really sweet person. It's difficult to sit in the classroom without smiling and admiring Dr. Ma's character and charisma. Although, the course is difficult, it is something you should prepare for and not fault the professor. I would definitely retake the course in a heartbeat..
Marks of every small little detail. You can get every question right for the whole semester and have like a 90.
Dr. Ma is such a good calculus professor! Her teaching style is very straight-forward, and she gives so much partial credit on tests and quizzes. There is a lot of homework and a quiz pretty much every week, but it really helps prepare you for the tests. Take Dr. Ma's class!!!
You can tell she really cares about her students and how we understand topics. Lectures are well-paced but can be somewhat boring/unhelpful. She's a tough grader but if you show up to class and do your homework her class won't be hard at all.
Compared to my friends with other calculus professors, Dr. Ma was one of the good ones. Her class structure is very straightforward; it included short weekly quizzes, homework sets, and four tests. She gives great lectures and practice is similar to the actual test(gives partial credit). She was very understanding about attendance when I was sick.
Dr. Ma was a very sweet professor, always smiling and willing to help with more complex & confusing problems. She did well explaining topics, although some got confusing at times. The homework was time consuming and could be very difficult. She graded very meticulously, which was a bit frustrating, but overall she wasn't the worst. I enjoyed her!
Good but tough, I would recommend taking a different prof if you have a harder time with math in general. If you're a math wiz though it'll be a breeze.
I thought that Dr. Ma was great for this class, she gives heavy curves on tests, but the tests are hard and short, she has weekly quizzes and she has weekly HW. But I thought that her class gives you a great hold for what Calc 2 is. Definitely recommend!
Class is one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken, but Dr Ma makes it more manageable. Go to class and do your homework and you should be fine for the test. Class had 3 tests and a final, with homework and weekly quizzes. Don't take this course lightly, but if you put in effort and ask questions you should get through alright.
Dr. Ma is a great prof. she makes everything accessible outside of class and the homework is pretty easy but well prepares you. She has quizzes every week that are grade boosters and 3 tests. The course material is pretty easy after you get the hang of it except for the last unit which killed me.
Dr. Ma was a great professor who cared about her students actually understanding the material. She was great at answering questions and her lectures were a good measure of what was on quizzes and exams. Lectures are interactive to make sure students understand the concepts. Overall a great professor and I would definitely recommend taking her!
Dr. Ma tried hard but this was pretty much a self-taught class. I ended up having to transfer into the UNIV class and it was definitely the best decision. If you haven't taken AP calc or something similar before I do not recommend her.
She just goes through the PowerPoint every class, so you really don't have to show up except for text day. There are so many online resources for this class that you can just use those to learn the material. However, she is extremely unflexible if you have some kind of issue. The quizzes and tests are rough.
Dr. Ma is a lovely person who is very charming. However, going to her lecture felt super useless. She's not good at explaining things, so I switched to a UNIV course. She would be super offended if I asked a question I didn't know how to solve. Dr. Ma also assigned many webwork assignments, so be prepared to do homework for her class constantly.
I took Intro to Math. Modeling, and it was the hardest math class I think I've ever taken. Dr. Ma is a very sweet lady who really tries to help you understand (and she might curve tests and give extra credit if people do poor), but I taught myself the whole semester and really struggled. For an 1101 it is insanely hard- good prof, bad class.
I had been advanced in math my entire high school career, but scored poorly on the placement test, so I was placed into MATH 1101. Dr. Ma is a sweet lady, but I learned nothing in the class. The way she teaches is purely off of lecture slides and she rarely elaborates on the problems we practice and often moves too fast to even comprehend concepts.
She is a nice lady, but sometimes doesn't explain stuff thoroughly and expects students to understand difficult concepts with little review. After the withdraw period she actually started to grade a bit easier, which I appreciated. She also let our final exam replace our lowest test grade which was clutch. She's not bad if she's your only option!
As nice a lady as Dr. Ma might be, this class cost me sanity. She fails to elaborate on topics covered in class no matter the level of difficulty. She offers no extra credit, error carried forward is not offered on tests, and the class is generally a pain. If I had to take this class again, it would not be with Dr. Ma.
Dr. Ma is one of the nicest teachers I've had but the class was so difficult. The tests count for a big percentage of your grade so if you don't do well you're stuck in a bad spot. I did not feel like I learned much at all and was confused throughout the entire semester.
Professor cannot explain or teach well, but does drop 2 quizzes and 2 hw. The lowest test grade is also replaced by what you get on the final.
She clearly cares about her students, but be prepared to show up for lecture because attendance matters. Also, there is so much homework assigned outside of class to the point HW counts the same as a test grade. Her tests are very difficult.
Dr. Ma is one of the best math professors at UGA. She provides plenty of examples and test practice materials. If you study her examples and practice tests, you WILL pass. She curves tests and is very generous in doing so. She has a quiz about every week, but she drops the lowest 2 and some are take home. She has unlimited tries on HW! Recommend!
Dr. Ma knows her stuff but her execution is poor and it's hard to understand her lectures. There are weekly quizzes, should be easy points but she's a strict grader. Her tests are MUCH easier than homework tho and she gives a lot more curve points back for tests. But if you do take her be prepared to teach yourself most of the material.
Lingyun Ma is an amazing professor! She cares about her students and is accessible outside of class. There is homework every week and it's a bit long. There is a quiz every week, but she drops 3 quizzes. Her tests are long, but if you studied you should pass. She is also very generous in her scaling. She replaces one test with the final. Recommend!
Dr. Ma's class started out straight forward and pretty easy but as the semester progressed and the content became harder I felt her teaching skills declined and she never really answered questions asked in class. She also does not give a lot of partial credit on both quizzed and tests making it hard to get an A in the class.
Dr Ma is pretty good for calc 2. Certainly not the best, lectures are pretty unclear and can be confusing and not concise enough for me. I personally never learned from her lectures. That's really my only complaint which could be a big deal depending on your learning style. What is great about her is she grades very generously and curves tests.
Dr. Ma's class is challenging but manageable if you stay on top of the work. The lectures can be unclear, so I found using resources like Unstuck ai really helpful for study prep. Overall, put in the effort and you can do well.
Lectured only but didn't make sense. Doesn't answer questions. Ridiculously hard tests and final, no extra credit. I had to put in TONS of outside effort to even achieve this grade, and I am typically a straight A student.
