accent is hard to understand
Total babe, back in her day anyway..tough accent but killer notes that were actually relevent to the tests, imagine!
If you can get over her impossible to understand accent and just copy her notes you'll do great. She gives really excellent notes and she is really nice. Don't bother to ask her for help cuz you can't understand her. She marks really easy. She gives you marks for ANYTHING.
She is so gorgeous and I plan on asking her out next year, love the accent.
Not to demean my critique, but I bet she's 50 and still a hottie. Those darn Russians, eh! Her lectures were great and she reminds us of areas where we are likely to misunderstand. Exams are tough but fair. I cruised to a B+ where I would've unfairly received a C- from Jensen.
Her notes are good. Her exams are fair, although additional text reading is required i think. Although the accent is almost unbearable to comprehend, but she makes it up with her notes.
Her accent is very hard to understand and she will think that you havn't read the pre-lab notes if you ask one question. She doesn't seem to eager to help in class or in the help sessions. Maybee it's just me and the rest of my class, who knows
She is mean. She likes to use her version of "I'm not angry, just disapointed," after every single question that you ask
She is very hard to understand and looks at you like you're an idiot if you ask her a question. I don't recomend her as a prof, chem is difficult enough as it is!

Very hard to understand. She is quiet and it is apparent that doesn't like to answer questions.
she was nice enough... but half the time i was unsure of what i was suppose to be doing because i could not understand her pre lab lectures....she confuses herself easily... i would not take a class with her again
Very boring lecture and does not have enough office hours.
She's nice enough, but doesnt seem too eager to answer questions or to involve the class in any way. Her notes are heavy on quantity, lacking in quality. But on a test, if you dont know something... just pull out the shovel, she's very generous.
going to class and taking her notes are a total must . she's a very picky marker, follow her class examples as close as possible when writing her exams. she's a hard marker . and it's close to impossible to understand her , she's got a thick accent.
Dr. Badalova is a GREAT instructor, she is the most helpful person i know. Just read her notes, and use the textbook from time to time, and despite her accent, her lectures are understandable.
God of a chemistry teacher.
Great prof in all aspects. Exams questions similar to example questions. Helpful in office hours.
be sure to go to class. You write notes all class but they are very helpful and tests are exactly like practice exams. Only thing is your hand might be sore at the end of each class from copying out notes.overall alright prof.
she isnt bad, the accent is kind of bad but if you go every day it becomes easier to understand. Her notes are helpful, but are basically word for word out of the lecture notes book that you can buy at the bookstore. Her tests are fair, and the questions are like the examples and questions in the text book
Spends the entire class writing notes and doesn't seem to take to students who ask questions, especially questions she views as "dumb" or "self-explainatory". Has no interest in being personable to her students, so she comes off as unapproachable. I switched into another chem class and I advise you to do the same!
Her accent is absolutely impossible to understand...she mumbles into the board half the time and writes notes all class. She will give you part marks for anything on exams which are almost identical to her practice exams. Overall not the best prof but not the worst.
This is a month and a half of my life i will never get back. I think i developed carpels tunnel in my hand from writing notes so much. SHe was next to impossible to understand, because she mumbles into the board all the time. I asked a few question and she looked at me like i was a retard and i should know the stuff i took in chem 30 5 years ago.
She is hard to understand but she marks very very easily I noticed. Most profs would fail you on the entire question if you missed a tiny bit of the equation...but she will deduct .XX marks haha.
Dont get a morning class with her. She has a very thick accent and if your not a morning learner you won't understand a word she's saying
good teacher, and doesn't teach too fast orslow.marks easy and cuts out questions no one gets right(which often happens on her tests.)the tests tend to be pretty easy, and comparable to the assigned stuff and what she does in the notes.know the theory very well cause she will ask for definitions.i say best chem teacher at macewan to get the best mark
Not a great teacher. Its hard to understand her sometimes due to her Russian accent. Her notes are all written and very unorganized. She never finishes a example problem, she will do half of it and then continue going. She is willing to help if you go to her office. This is a hard course, you must attend class and keep up with the work!
Usually its the students fault that they are doing bad in a course, but in this case its the teacher. She doesnt explain how to do problems fully. We write notes for 2 hours staight, and if there is a question she never seems pleased to have to answer it. Class average on both midterms was below 50, but she scaled the marks. Do not choose her!
Honestly, I get more help from others than her. She is not at all worth your time or money.
very hard to understand her, don't even try to understand her notes while taking them, study on own, she's pretty helpful if you go to her. i studied A LOT outside of class, her exams are fairly easy,
Very hard to understand. Does not explain things well at all.
She is very hard to understand i had her for my lab and its as if she talking to herself, she gives me weird looks in class and always tries to mark errors in my work even when its right
If you are an independent learner who does not need much help from a prof you will do amazing since her notes are straight from the lecture notes. If you are a person who asks a lot of questions you will hate her because she is hard to understand. I had her for 101 and 102 and i never got a mark under 100 since she scales her exams. I liked her!
Brutal , she was my lab instructor cant barely here her plus she seems to despise you if you need help !!
Difficult to understand because she has a strong Slavic accent, mutters, speaks too quietly, and looks at the floor when addressing the class.
She has excellent notes. If you understand her notes -- you'll do good in her class. I didn't even have to refer to the textbook (which is not usually in most classes taken in University). You're in university -- you should know how to learn stuff on your own or read the textbook (the prof shouldn't have to do it for you).
Sit close to front so that you hear everything she has to say, and take the notes. Tests are tough, involving considerable conceptual work and difficult questions from the text. Not as bad as she looks, if asking for help, just be precise and sincere. She is a fair marker too.
Do not take Badalova for your lecture! She is OK for LAB. She makes no sense in class -doesn't explain the examples she gives, just writes them on the board. The learning you will do will be on your own. Her tests can be hard, but she does scale the marks to reflect it and she is a generous marker. Still very bad though:(
Nice, but very shy and quiet, with a thick accent.
Fairly good professor. You just need to really pay attention.
She is the sole reason I dropped Chem 101. She docks marks from your lab reports if you ask too many questions, and has more than once said "I don't know" when people ask her for help.
well she has a russian accent.so hardly got wht she was saying, most of the times it seems she is talking to herself.whn u ask for help, she would say, "i don't know".she is not at all helpful, the worst teacher i had ever.never take her class
Awesome lab prof if you get on her good side
in the beginning it was really hard to understand her, this was extremely frustrating.. she does her best to get her point across, she really knows what she's talking about -very intelligent :) she writes help on the board and she's always available out of lab hours to help you! she helped me get from 60% back up to 80% :) she cares about students!
Professor Badalova is great and gives every student the opportunity to earn a good grade. Fair marker
Lioudmila was a very helpful instructor, she was very approachable and did not hesitate to help any confused students. My mark to date is higer than it as in the 101 lab which must say somethig about the teaching.
She is very nice but is very difficult to understand. I often didnt know what she was saying when she was explaining the procedure. However if you read the powerpoints before hand and read through the lab manual you will be fine. There are quizzez and lab reports but they are pretty easy.
Lioudmila is scary at first because she looks so serious and she's initially difficult to understand, but when you get to know her she's really wonderful! She is so friendly and talks to you like you're a friend instead of a student. She cares about your success and knows what she's talking about. I would encourage you all to take her classes.
She is a really nice prof and explains each lab clearly.
I had her for the chem 101 LAB. She never smiles, has no expression, I could barely understand her talking as she has a very thick accent... I think its Russian or something?.. She is pretty good other than that.
Thick russian accent. Very intimidating. However, one of the nicest people I've ever met! Once you get over the intimidating facial expressions she can produce, this chem prof knows her stuff and will try her best to help you understand what you need to know!
Great lady! Def recommend her.
Good instructor! Review sessions at the end 100% worth your time goes through all material needed for final. Easy marker too. Accent is quite strong but nice lady once you get to know her a bit!
hard to understand, doesnt easily make her self available outside of class
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! she barley talks and when she does its hard to understand. She tends to stand over students while their doing the lab without saying anything. Went to her office and did not understand anything, docks marks for no reason off reports. Biggest mistake of taking her class. She is a sweet lady but she cant teach!
She is a hard marker especially with sig digs and units. She is hard to understand so it's hard to pick up concepts. She is only nice to the students who manage to finish first. Word of advice: do not screw up on the first lab. She's scary.
She's not as bad as everyone says she is. She isn't scary. However, her accent is very strong and because of it I could not ever understand her.
I would not reccommend taking her class. Her accent is very hard to understand and she tends to stand over students as their doing the lab. Went to her for help and didn't understand anything. Don't take her class.
I'm not too sure why Lioudmila has such bad ratings. Yes, her accent is a bit difficult to understand, but you do get used to it after awhile. If you are work hard, pay attention, and are willing to learn, she has no problem with helping you out. I personally loved her and went from almost failing labs in highschool to high 80s and 90s.
Lioudmila is very difficult to understand, not only because of her strong Russian accent but also her quite mumbling. She likes to stand over your lab table and just smile.. say nothing, just smile. Her review for the final was absolutely pointless.. it made no sense. Just an overall VERY confusing prof, and i would not recommend taking her class
Lioudmila has a super thick accent, I just had her for the lab but it wasn't so bad. She knows her stuff and can be a little short with students, but overall isn't terrible. One day she pushed back our 8am lab so we wouldn't have to wake up as early, she can be thoughtful! If you study it's easy to get a B or higher.
Very soft spoken, and heavy accent, BUT, if you pay attention its not an issue. Very nice teacher, helpful when you need something explained.
Lioudmila is not as scary as she seems. She's very nice when you talk with her. GO to her office if you're having trouble! I went several times & she was very helpful. Her accent IS a bit hard to understand, but you get used to it. Somewhat difficult course, if you work hard on the lab reports and get help if you need it, you should be okay!
She's not a bad prof; after a while you start to understand her accent and it's not too hard to figure out what she's saying. She's extremely dry however, and seems very unapproachable. Never seen her smile, but that's not relevant to her teaching ability I suppose. Big plus - only teaches you what you need to know and makes very fair tests.
She can be described in one word: scary. She has a pretty thick accent which is hard to understand. I would definitely not take her, she makes you feel little and intimidated... Avoid.
Yes, she has an accent which is sometimes tough to understand but it is easy to get used to. I did better in the lab then the lecture do to my terrible lecture prof. Missed a lab due to sleeping in and Lioudmila was very good with helping me make up that lab. Very smart woman, just tough on her grading a bit/ struggles w/explaining. Very Caring!
I've had her for 101 and 102 labs and honestly, she's a good prof. She tells you how to do the reports and marks lab reports fairly. Yes, her accent is tough to get through so it would do good to pay attention. She's quiet but very patient when you have questions. You can tell she cares about her students. I'd recommend her as a lab prof
She is actually not a bad instructor at all. She is a bit dry, and make sure you sit at the front so you can hear her. However, she is a very fair marker compared to the majority of Chemistry teachers, and she even gives hints for the quizzes and lab exam. If you listen and write down what she says for the lab quizzes, it will actually help you.
Dr. Badalova is a great prof! Yes her accent is very thick and she sometimes will start to mumble things that you will not understand but she really knows her stuff. I asked her a lot of questions and went to her office hours and she is really helpful! She is a tough grader so make sure you don't ever forget your units or significant digits!
Super nice prof. She has a thick accent that's sometimes hard to understand, but otherwise helpful. Labs are easy and so are the quizzes if you do the practice reports. Final lab exam was kinda tough.
I had her for both Chem 101 and 102 and she is great. She will often write answers on the board for questions in the lab report she thinks are hard or will give you really clear guidance on how to do those questions which other lab profs don't do. She can be intimidating but she is actually really sweet.
I love Lioudmila because she just makes you laugh. She is very caring and will quickly respond to emails and will make time for you to meet up with her. She gives you lots of help with reports and finals by writing notes and answers on the board. She is great and will always help you to understand concepts even though she looks intimidating!
Extremely rude and seems to not care for her students or others. Would not recommend whatsoever. Also the heavy accent makes he extremely hard to understand and she gets impatient when asking questions
Dr. Badalova is absolutely amazing! I had her for CHEM 101 and CHEM 102 labs and honestly she is a blessing. As long as you put some effort into your reports you will do very well. She sends out awesome tips and guidance to help with your reports and how to study for the quizzes because she wants her students to do well! Take her class!!!
Yes, at first, Professor Badalova may seem intimidating, but it gives you the sense that if anything goes wrong during the lab, you're in safe hands. I didn't find her accent at all difficult to understand, and she gives amazing notes and help to those who need it. Overall great professor!
Lioudmila is a good lab instructor, the biggest issue I had was trying to hear her during the labs. She has an accent that isn't too bad to understand but she talks so quietly. Other than that she is very caring and may seem intimidating but once you get to know her she is great. Her lab work is straightforward, if you pay attention you'll do good!
Did not include a syllabus and hid most of the important info in a giant lab manual which was annoying to find every time. Did not have the labs prepared properly for most experiments. If you are reading this, DO NOT take Inorganic Chemistry (CHEM 232)
Dr. Badalova was an okay chem 101 lab instructor. She was very difficult to understand (accent in conjunction with talking extremely quietly). Overall, she was nice when you asked questions, but was not good at answering emails. Tests were difficult but reports weren't bad!
easy marker, fast replies for questions.
I enjoyed my time with Dr. Badalova! She has an accent, but it's not hard to understand her if you are listening. As long as you do the assignments properly and answer everything thoroughly, you'll do good. She provides excellent notes which tell you precisely what to do on the reports.
She was so nice and I enjoyed her labs, her instructions were quite slow and long but beneficial since for the most part I knew clearly what to do for each lab. Lab assignments weren't too difficult and she let me submit a portion of an assignment I forgot to send on crowdmark after the accepted time. Loved her.
Lioudmila Badalova is an okay lab instructor. I found her to be kind of unhelpful. I remember asking her a question about if the things she wrote on the board were needed for the lab report and her response was "I don't know it's just my job to provide this too you." Not super helpful...
Wouldn't take her again unless I had to. Coming from someone who's always been a good and respectful student, she makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Very long lab explanations that you can barely understand due to her HEAVY accent, and overall not very helpful. Emails were unhelpful too. Avoid if you can.
(For Winter 2024) ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PROF EVER. The CHEM 232 labs do not have to be that stressful. The lab manual is created by Badalova, and the procedures are not even clear. When some people ask her, she expects us to know 100%, which is atrocious. She is absolutely rude whenever people ask her a simple question. It's 2024 its not 1980s Uni.
