A really nice teacher. She gives weekly quizzes on line, straight from the book. She gives an outline for each chapter which is good to study from. She makes the class fun with games. she is a great teacher and class is easy if you read the chapter outlines.
weekely quizes straight from book. had to actually read. her classes were basically reading stright from the powerpoint which made it pointless to go but she did incorporate some games into them sometimes. wasnt too bad. shes cool
Great teacher, read the book and look at the power point notes and you should do good. Summer class was fast pace but worh it!!
I recommend taking this professor. She is passionate about the subject and helpful. If you study the outline and powerpoints, you will find it impossible to fail.
The information in the class is very easy to understand and comprehend but she makes her weekly quizzes and tests so difficult by rephrasing passages in the book and forcing you to decipher the meaning in a short amount of time. All in all a good class, great professor. You'll learn stuff but it's not the easiest A you'll earn.
She's really good. Her class is a Hybrid course. Just go to class every day, because she occassionally has attendance participation grades, each worth 25 pts, which count toward your final grade. You have weekly quizzes, online, which aren't too bad. Just make sure to study hard for her mid-term and final, and you'll be alright.
She uses alot of powerpoint notes...so bring your labtop to keep up with her lectures. She also likes to assign atleast one group presentation. Her powerpoints will help you with her exams...I never bought the required text for her course and made a B+
great teacher. highly recommended
i took this class online.its very easy .. the powerpoints are no use! just read the book and take the quiz. it's a easy A but you must read the book in order to do good on the quiz.
learned lots
Took her for a couple of hlt classes. Come to class everyday cuz it's u will need those points. quizzes are straight from book so just read the book and know it! it's not hard if you read the book and know the material. she is a good looking prof as well :D
Interesting
Interesting class.Online class. Vivid pictures in textbook. Chapters are kind of long but are interesting and made quizzes easy. A quiz every week 2 exams comprehensive. Easy Class have to do second life activity (easy). The teachers helpful, quick to answer questions.
Don't need the textbook. Just use her outline notes to take the quizzes and test. Using Google helps for the very few questions not in the outline. 10 quizzes, midterm, and final (noncomprehensive). Online is an easy A.
Her class was very exciting. The power points were very helpful. She also lets you know what is on the test. Easy A
Took her for winter mini session. I recommend this professor to anyone. She is very helpful and i love her grading and workload format. As long as you keep up with the due dates of assignments, there is no reason you shouldn't do good. Timed quizzes. 2 extra credit opportunities. I give the class and professor an A.
Dr. Alastuey is awesome, I took her class "Foundations of Health" during the Winter Mini-Session and found it quite enjoyable. The class isn't hard, but it's not a complete blowoff. I read the book, wrote up good notes, studied them thoroughly and did well in the class. The class structure is clear and the workload is normal. Would recommend.
Interesting class if you want to know about today's issues with chidren's health. Very helpful and you will learn alot. Got a C+ for not putting too much effort into the class, thought i could blow it off
She's hot. Class was easy. Doesn't take attendance but she does surprise participation points for showing up which could affect your grade just a tad. Didn't ever take notes. Just be sure to show up for the review and study it so you'll make an easy A. Also, she assigned 3 activities that required essays. All relative.
I took this class online. I got an A. It is not hard. All you have to do is read the chapter, take the quizzes, do the midterm and final, and a second life activity. You have to know the details from the chapter to do good on the quizzes and tests. Prof. Alastuey is very helpful and nice.
The class I took with her is called Health Aspects of Human Sexuality which was online. She is very helpful and the class is not very difficult. The syllabus clearly states what needs to be done and the quizzes required have statements coming directly from the textbook. She is also quick in responding to emails. The material is interesting as well.
Great class. I recommend for summer and mini terms. You use your book alot. All quiz questions come from the book. Study quizzes for the final.
Wonderful Intrsuctor. Take all of her classes, escpecially if you're a Health minor. LOVED the class!!!!
Take this Professor for every Health course she offers. This is my 2nd class and earned A's both times. You will have to READ cover to cover but the effort is worth the A.
I have had her for a bunch of health classes and she is absolutely amazing. For this particular class it was called Health of an Elementary School Child we had a 10 question unlimited attempt multiple choice quiz for each chapter and the majority of those questions were on the final exam. It was easy. Book was used for EVERYTHING! Amazing class. :)
Great class, learned a lot.
I took this class online in a regular semester. If you take this class make it your only class. You are tested over about 200 pages of info. No reviews just read and remember 200 pages of info and you get 50 minutes for 50 impossible questions. Studied for days and still could pass the test. This is going to destroy my 3.8 GPA. :( BEWARE!!!!!!
I thought this class was interesting at first but it was very challenging. I had to frop the class because it was too much info. MEaning 200!!!! chapter slides. If you liek reading the book be aware.
I took this class as my first online class and it forever ruined my views of online classes. No notification reminders in blackboard regarding what is due, and when. Tests & quizzes are harder than you can even IMAGINE even after reading the book & "control F" the detailed notes I took while reading. Extra credit: FORGET IT!! Unfairly determined!!
I took her for online class and test are very difficult! im a fourth year student and have taken all my sciences and i still had a hard time with the exams. You must read book and go over slides. 7 exams during the semester. Be aware if you are not familiar with science material this is not a blow off class for online class.
I took this online and I don't recommend her. She gives you power points but they are mostly useless on her exams. You have to use lockdown browser for exams and only get one min per question.
This is my fourth year in college, and this is the second time I have rated a professor. The first time I rated was because my professor was so awesome, I wanted to recommend him. However, in this case it is the opposite. The tests are nerve wrecking bc you only have 1 min per question. Also, the professor was no help at all. I don't recommend her.
This is my first time rating teachers and I would say if you need to take this class, take it in a face to face class and don't take this teacher. This class is strictly online, her power points aren't helpful and it doesn't help prepare you for the tests either.
took her online. class was brutally hard. you really have to read carefully and listen to the narrated powerpoints (that you cant even understand. it sounds like a young teenager reading). DO NOT TAKE HER NUTRITION CALL ONLINE!!!! this ruined my GPA. she doesnt offer any other grades except the 7 exams and one quiz. no homework or study guides
Don't take her class. I thought it was gonna be an easy A class but definitely not what I expected. Tests cover almost over 100 pages and very detailed. 6 test total. The final is optional but cumulative and replaces your lowest test grade but it was very difficult. Doesn't curve at all
All the bad comments are exaggerated! No, she isn't very involved. No the powerpoints aren't helpful. The tests are heavily influenced by the TEXTBOOK! I must admit I didn't really put in effort until the 3rd test which is why I scored a C. I did get tired of all the emails from students complaining about everything! Justskim the book before tests
This class is not too hard if you study. You MUST read the textbook. Powerpoints are not helpful. 16 Quizzes and 5 Exams + 3 discussions all on Blackboard. I have a book for sale. If interested email [email protected].
This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I took her because reviews online were so good.. It was a trick! The tests are impossible..I read the book AND the powerpoints and it didnt help. We took the tests in groups and still could barely pass. I am a straight A student and barely got out of that class with a B. AVOID THIS CLASS!
I don't even think a certified nutrition specialist could pass her tests. If you take this class you better memorize each chapter for the tests.
I did not like this teacher as she never answered my emails, every chapter was 150 (literally) long!!! And you ' d better learn these slides by heart. I studied 3 days before the tests (her tests were super hard to pass). Extra credit and curve DO NOT exist in this class.. I wouldn't recommend this teacher((
Make sure you are looking at comments for the correct class. As for NUTR 2332,the tests are from the textbook. Study before tests, you only have time to look up a couple answers. You won't be able to look them all up. Know the math, know the numbers, know the definitions. Stay on track for the online class.
That was an easy A. You have to take notes and she will give you examples of whats going to be on the exam
This class is one of those where the amount of effort you put in literally equals your grade. Write outlines of the 2 chapters that are covered on each test and you'll do fine. People complain about her, but if you read the syllabus before you take the class, you should be aware of her policies. Make sure to take the optional final and read opts.
Dr. Alastuey is great!! I highly recommend her. She has you working throughout the semester but nothing to hard. No exams just a final. Take her!
Quizzes and tests are straight out the textbook. You don't have to use the power points or the learning modules to make an A. Quizzes are unlimited and takes the highest grade, although you will not be provided the questions you've got wrong. There are only two attempts to tests (questions missed will be given) and the average will be taken.
This class is super hard and the tests are impossible! I have no clue how people were making A's in this class. I read and re-read each chapter, did the "study guides" which didn't have anything to do with the test, and listened to the horrible power points with 4 different people taking turns reading. Do NOT take this class.
She asked the most ambiguous and insignificant questions on exams and seemed that she wanted to trick the students rather than for us to learn to material. I have taken the more advanced version of this class (Advanced Nutrition) and received an A. Now in this Intro to Nutrition class I am barely hoping for a B. Do not take her for an online class.
Do not take her class. She has tests every other week and they are impossible. It is like she wants you to do bad. Will never take her again!!
Do not take this professor. The exams are every two weeks. There are 8 test total and they are impossible to pass.
Do not take this class she is NOT HELPFUL! she does not care about the students success. it is a waste of time to even do the extra "STUDY" stuff she has online for you because it DOES NOT PREPARE you for the test WORST nutrition teacher I've EVER had! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Quizzes are every two weeks and the "cumulative final quiz" will replace the lowest grade. If you miss a quiz you can not make it up. Quizzes were super hard and the book and powerpoints hardly helped. Her powerpoints were not helpful since there were multiple people narrating and some were just were just reading off the powerpoints.
Too many exams given in one semester (7 total exams) and she doesn't provide a review for her final exams. Her exams are hard because its timed which doesn't help. She takes top 7 exams but we take 7 exams so you better do good in all of them.
Would take again, easy class and very straightforward. You don't need the textbook also.
Idk about other classes but this class I took with her was an easy A. I went to class only two times and both the times I went I was interested in her lectures cuz they were actually interesting. I just stopped going cuz I found a job. Tests are online easy A
Attention all UH students do not take this professor. If you find that there is another instructor who teaches this course then take them instead. Dr. Alastuey made an entry level nutrition class seem like it was a graduate course. 7 exams every other week with 50 questions in one hour . I made an A- but had to work my tail off for it.
7 exams, optional final replaces lowest test grade, 3 discussion questions (1 post, 3 replies), and a service assignment. GET/RENT A PHYSICAL COPY OF THE TEXTBOOK!! Tests are on Blackboard, NO Lockdown Browser. 50 questions in 1 hour to make cheating more difficult. Test questions come from sentences in textbook, nearly word-for-word.
I would never take her again. She's not helpful and way too tough for an introductory course. Exams are ridiculous, 7 total or 8 if you take the comprehensive final (14 chapters total). No reviews provided.
This was a tough class, but if you study and get busy early in the course you'll do fine. Not a breeze class but worth taking.
I took this class to get my science credit thinking it would be informative and wouldn't take up a good chunk of time. Man, was I wrong. This class was one of my toughest classes, unnecesarily so. There are too many tests and no reviews are given. It seems like the professor makes this class a lot harder than it needs to be. BEWARE.
I took her online course and it is an easy A. there are 3 discussion post (1 post and 3 reponse), 5 learning modules that consists of 3-4 quizzes each (unlimited attemps) and 5 exams (two attemps and the average of both grades is taken).
She gives 3 quizzes for each exam, unlimited tries on quizzes. the test is pulled from same question bank as quizzes. exam pretty easy... after quizes attempts. 3 discussion pretty easy takes 10-15 minutes. overall great easy class def boost GPA would def take again because of how easy and straight forward.
This has got to be one of the worst online courses I have ever taken in my life! Exams are the absolute worst, doesn't offer any reviews and you only get 1hr to answer 50 questions that can only be found in the book, but even reading the chapters before the exams don't help at all, too much information to remember and pp's are useless!
You will NOT pass this class without a textbook as there are no reviews. I know very few people who made an A in the class but its not completely impossible just insanely difficult. There are 2 chapters per test, 7 tests and a final that will replace the lowest test grade, and mind that they are every other week. I
I made an account just to rant about how god awful this human is. First of all she is able to make a intro to nutr class way harder than needed with inhumane amounts of information. Her power points are as worthless are her and your only hope is the book. However her tests tend to take the smallest most insignificant details such as statistics.
A woman with no heart or soul. Avoid her and her classes she's the devil.
l lot of reading and long tests (1 hour, 50 questions). The problem is she is not flexible at all. I got food poising and was down for 4 days, of course a test fell within those days and she would not let me re-take it. I am working on becoming a dietician, and this course was no fun.
I took this professor for Nutr 2332 as an online class. The class was easy. We had 3 discussion post, 7 exams/quizzes, and the final was optional (could replace lowest test score). I would take this professor again.
Dr. A makes this class fun with guest speakers. Show up and read and you'll get an A. Homework is turned in by hand and she could misplace your papers so always keep a copy with the date on it otherwise you'll get a zero for that assignment as she is very specific about the no late work policy.
Online course, easy A but you have to be sure to do all your work on time, no late work policy strictly enforced.
Pretty easy class. Lectures were just a lot of guests speakers. Some of them were interesting while some dry and boring. 2 random in class quiz? counts for 5% of your grade (i missed them). Exams are based on powerpoints that you go over yourself. Exam is online, 10-12 questions, 30 minutes. Assignments are very easy, must be turned in, in class.
She follows the syllabus Do your work there are quizzes due like every other week 3 discussions 5 Exams
I took her for about 5 classes online and one hybrid. She is very matter of fact, whats on the syllabus is what you will be doing. Even after Harvey, nothing changed. In all the classes, i had to read the book. So be prepared. Overall, she's a solid teacher. I didnt love but didnt hate her. Do the homework, read, and you can get good grades.
The test were extremely hard, and only gave an hour for 50 questions, the power points include useless information that does not help at all and they are all over an hour. She made this into class harder than it needs to be. Online classes are made for flexibility yet she only has her tests open for two days which is ridiculous
A great professor that wants you to understand nutrition. Quizzes and tests come from powerpoints and are more common sense about health initiatives. An easy A if you pay attention. The other 5 assignments are physical copies to be turned in class.
If you are going to take this course take it in the fall or spring. Took it in the summer expecting this professor to be the same but had to drop due the summer professor grading ridiculously hard without giving any indication of what will be on the tests. I would take her instead fall or spring to get a better grade with more fair tests.
Probably the easiest science class I have ever taken in my life!!!!!!!!! Literally, take her if you can. I did it online and found it so easy to do because she gives you so much time and she follows the syllabus down to the bone. 7 exams, optional final drops your lowest, 3 DQ, one assignment, and that is it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR THOSE WHO ARE BUSY
everything is online and straight to the point you will have 3 discussions that you will have to post and reply to peers
Super easy class! 3 easy discussion posts which can give extra credit, 16 quizzes with unlimited attempts, and 5 exams with questions straight from the quizzes! Just keep up with the deadlines and do the quizzes and you will pass with ease.
Easy A, Highly recommend to anyone!!
There were three discussion questions, a nutrition service work assignment (volunteering, interview nutritionist, etc.), 7 tests and an optional final to replace either missed test grade or lowest test grade. Super manageable, you just have to be very aware of the deadlines because she will not remind you.
My favorite professor on campus. She's very understanding and is quick to respond to her emails, you can really tell that she cares about teaching and wants for everyone to learn the subject material. The assignments are simple, the test are pretty straight forward. I also took this class while being in PSYCH 3337 which complemented the material.
If you are taking this class online, you're in good hands! The exams are easy. The only thing that I was annoyed were the busy discussion board questions. Other than that, a solid class.
Very easy A, quizlet is your best friend.
There was 3-4 quizzes and a test due every 2-3 weeks, and there was no final. Loved this course, would recommend.
The class was very educative. Shes so understanding, allowed me to retake my test when my WiFi failed me. All the class consisted of was 3 discussions, 7 tests, final (optional), and a nutrition service work assignment and essay. Very easy A
Easy A class. Do not need to buy the textbook. Be sure to keep up with discussion forums and due dates. Unlimited attempts to do quizzes. Tests were all online.
Know the slides, do the discussion and project and you'll pass no problem. A hint though, the posted slides are not enough to pass the test, you need to know the lecture slides from each chapter. Interesting class and a nice introduction to nutrition as its supposed to be.
Her grading criteria was clear and easy. She has 4 tests, and multiple projects. She grades easily on all the projects. She drops one of the tests if you do bad on one which is super helpful.
Very easy A. All tests/quizzes were online. Remember to keep up with the discussion boards
I took this class during a winter mini session and it was very well structured! We had about 14 chapter assessments (lockdown no camera) and three discussion posts with three replies which were very interesting to do. We also had a final but if you did well on the previous assessments, it should be a breeze. Overall, the class was a fairly easy A!!
I actually had her for KIN 4300 online. Everything was super easy. 3 discussion posts and about 10 quizzes spread throughout the semester. No lockdown browser but it was all timed. If you pace yourself and know your stuff and participate in the discussion posts, it's an easy A
Great professor! The class only had a few assignments which consists of 3 discussion posts, 10 quizzes, syllabus quiz, midterm and final. Easy A. The only way you'll fail is if you don't do the work. She also offers bonus points at the end of the semester.
I took this as a session 6 class, so everything was crammed into 1 month but was doable if you pace yourself. The class was interesting and concepts weren't too hard, just make sure to read the textbook alongside the powerpoints. You get 2 attempts on each quiz (calculator allowed) and you will use proctorio with your webcam and screen recorded.
This class has me on my last breath. I am taking a full course load (including classes such as microbiology) and this has been the class that has had me struggling the most. NO LECTURES, does NOT let you see your attempts on the assessments so you have no idea what you got wrong. Questions are incredibly specific, seems as we are set up to fail.
Literally anatomy was easier than this class... Did not provide one single lecture, made us read a bunch of textbook pages and somehow expected us to pass ?? don't let the old reviews fool you it is NOT an easy A. Did not provide any help at all and didn't let you see what you got wrong. She's the only option for NUTR at UH though so good luck.
Anatomy 1 and 2 are easier than this class. There are 2-3 assessments a week that are stubbornly long. Most are at least 95 plus powerpoint slides and on top of that, the questions are VERY SPECIFIC. No lectures and just expects us to learn on our own.
Of every class Ive taken at UH, she may be among the worst professors I have ever had. She provides no lectures, has incorrect due dates in the syllabus which she takes points off you for, claims to do no exams except for a final, but there are 80 questions due with assessments every 2 weeks. You have to essentially memorize the whole book to pass.
Beware anyone taking her post covid, she changed her teaching style. Took her for 4300&4302 same format. Theres multiple assessments every week where 90% of ur grade come from. 40 questions each w/ SPECIFIC questions! REQUIRES WEBCAME! U MUST study its no blow off class, she has unclear due dates. She doesnt teach EVERYTHING is through connect.
Do NOT take her class I am warning you now. Do not let the old reviews fool you like they fooled me. Her teaching style is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT now. For this class, you HAVE to buy Mcgraw Hill access code to take the assessments she assigns you. Also, she does NOT teach be prepared because this is a self-study course. READ THE BOOK or you fail.
All I have to say is good luck to anyone taking any of her classes. I had her for 3 classes now and these reviews are old, she changed her grading format. There are 2 quizzes every week and they require camera, its all through connect so the questions are extremely specific. She does not teach anything you have to read on you own or you will fail!
This professor provides no lectures. It is a DIY class(should this be a thing in college?). You have to teach and study yourself. Oh and dont be fooled by the extra credit at the end of the semester, it wont even round your grade up 1 point. The tests are very specific. Not a good intro class, but this is the only professor to teach it.
What can I say this was one of the worst classes i have taken & ive taken anatomy & physiology & microbiology before. As an intro class I didnt expect for it to be so difficult. No lectures. Extra credit didnt even help. Theres so much information we have to memorize & the questions are VERY specific. This is supposed to be an INTRO class
This class was more difficult than it should've been, especially for an introduction. Assessments basically require you to memorize the book as the questions are very specific drawn randomly. No lectures, purely SELF STUDY. It was very difficult compared to my other classes which were higher in course level. Extra credit was a mere 5 points.
Horrible class. Professor does not teach whatsoever. This course is self study. You study / read the textbook and PowerPoints she provides and then take the webcam monitored assessments which include very specific questions. Mind you, the PowerPoints provided by the professor are over 100 slides making it impossible to recall all the information.
Most inconsiderate professor. Literally 100% self taught. It did not even seem like we had a professor at all! She does not care about her students at all. Ya its an online class but Ive had other online professors actually put some sort of effort. No review for the final either. Feels like professor did not lift a finger for our class
This was the MOST time consuming class I had this semester despite having 3 science courses on my schedule and it was not an easy A. We had 13 chapter assessments (40 questions each and proctored), a cumulative final, and 3 discussion posts. Professor does not round up your grade ex. 89.9% 90% If you can, just take it at a community college.
Worst Professor I have ever taken, & I only have 1 more semester till I graduate, so Ive had plenty of Professors & she is by far the worst. She doesnt actually teach, the power points she provides are from McGraw Hill, which are over 60 slides each. And she wants us to MEMORIZE the book just to pass the assessments (90% of ur grade btw).
She seems like a good person. There was 14 assessments, 3 discussions, and a final. You have 2 to 3 assessments due every 2 weeks, each powerpoint was avg 100 slides and the assessments were video proctored on Proctorio with 40 Qs each. It's doable but be ready to read. She also gives an extra credit assignment toward the end of the semester.
I would not take this professor asynchronous. This is a "read the book and good luck class." The professor does not provide any lectures. I was hoping to retain information from this class for nursing school, I came out knowing almost nothing. I wish they offered this class in person because maybe she'd be better.
Achieving an A in this class is definitely possible, but a little difficult. If possible, try to take it elsewhere, but I think it's able to be pulled off. Do not put anything off until the last minute, try to retain as much information as possible because the final is comprehensive. Extra credit was provided and helped a lot, be on the lookout.
This class is basically self-taught. You're going to have to read the chapters and make sure you really know the details. I recommend reading them and taking the assessments right after. 14 assessments, 3 discussions, 1 final, and extra credit is available. It isn't crazy difficult, but keeping up with the reading and trying to remember was hard.
This class is a self taught class. You do everything online so time management skills matter. The assessments are long but not too hard if you study a lot. She gives 2 assessments every 2 weeks to help with our schedules. There is a textbook and also mcgraw textbook to help you learn.
Only take her online you have 10 chapter quizzes which are worth the most, 3 discussions, 1 syllabus quiz, and 1 final. Assignments are due every 2 weeks. ONLY TAKE HER ONLINE DO NOT TAKE HER IN PERSON. There is LOCKDOWN and CAMMED be warned.
Class had LDB quizzes due every week, 2 discussions, and a presentation project about addressing a health issue in a specific workplace/population. She takes attendance at random times during semester, so show up. Very easy and fun class, just do work and project in timely manner.
Class consists of 10 40 question proctor enabled quizzes, 3 discussions, a final exam worth 60 points, and 10 bonus points for filling out a course evaluation. As long as you read the textbook and slides she gives you should do fine.
super easy class. graded on 2 random in class assignments, 5 quizzes, a self monitoring assignment, 2 packbacks, and a discussion board on a book. the quizzes are a little specific but if you study/read the textbook you will be good. lectures are pretty interesting and you sometimes have guest speakers visit.
This class is mostly self-paced, so managing your time well is key. The assessments are challenging but doable if you consistently study the textbook and materials. unstuck ai was a big help for quiz prep.
Her grading criteria is clear, and gives you a bunch of extra credit (20pts added). However, her quizzes and final exam (comprehensive) both need a webcam to take. This is all in McGraw Hill. Has 2 discussions and a small essay, both of which are graded in Packback. Easy grader on the essay, so just make sure to keep up with the assignments.
Honestly this a really chill class just make sure to read the textbook if you want to do okay on the chapter assessment/quizzes. There is 10 assessment throughout the class and two Packback discussions and a really easy essay. She is a easy grader so don't stress too much. Yo don't need to go to lecture and it is not mandatory. Also extra credit!
Very chill class, all quizzes are lockdown browser + webcam, has a self-monitoring assignment and a 16 hour audiobook assignment you have to do a discussion on, but if you do it throughout the semester you'll be fine. she randomly does 2 in-class assignment days, and course eval is extra credit. recommend her, very easy if you make some time!
