awesome awesome class, highly recommend!
I dreaded taking a "fine art" at Mason. I dont like or understand art. But this is a great teacher who is fair, easy, and will get you to understand about art. After the 1st week or two this became my most interesting class. Very real and down to earth, not your stereotypical art teacher.
I thought Art History was going to suck but Professor Baumen was awesome! I have never skipped a class and I rarely find myself daydreaming. She makes the class interesting. The Papers are easy if you go to lectures and midterm and final are not that hard if you study.
shes made a boring subject really interesting..this class is highly recommended..!!
Dr. Bauman is GREAT!!! She made art history really interesting, and she's very upbeat. She's always willing to help if you need it, and she'll even offer help if you seem to be struggling. TAKE HER!!!
Antother teacher that likes to hand out a study guide. She tells you exactly what she wants and nothing else. For the test though u gotta know it well. Class is kinda interesting for an art class, but hard to keep awake in the dark. I'd recommend her.
Extremely interesting class. She's devoted to art, very helpful, and her lectures are spectacular. You will learn a lot. Assignments are clear and interesting. Ask her after class or go to her office hours, it will make things a lot easier. Loved her and her class.
I hated the idea of taking art history. But her class is excellent! She takes a dull subject and makes it fun and interesting. Gives a study guide for the 2 exams.
awesome proffesor!! Makes art subject interesting even for non-art students. Tests are a piece of cake (comes right off study guides) and 2 simple papers.
Loved her lectures - seamless. She takes great pride in her job and it shows. Comprehensive study guides and papers - which she is willing to read in advance and give feedback for improvement. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
great class. Make sure on your papers you pick apart what you are analyzing or else she will take off. She is very passionate about the subject which makes the class great.
Prof. Bauman is awesome! If you haven't taken her class yet, do! She makes Art History fun and exciting.
what can i say about this class and prof. Bauman, it was simply an excellent experience. She is one THE BEST teachers out there. She loves the course and makes u love it too. I knew nothing about art, but definitely learned alot from her class. Excellent and clear lectures...tells exactly what she wants....easy exams...Overall EXCELLENT teacher!
Great teacher, she loves the subject and will have you loving it too. She is very energetic and makes the class an awsome experience!
I'm a senior and only took this class to fulfill of my fine arts req.. My major is political science/internaional governance, so my interest initially was not very high. However, even though this was just a 100 level class, this teacher managed to make it interesting. I appreciated her high expectations which made me wish for more teachers like her
Great Professor. If you have to take art history, she's the one to take it with. Gives entire study guide over the course of the semester to make sure you come to class. Don't bother buying the book. It's expensive and I've never used it -- still got an A on midterm and final.
Easily the best prof. I've had at Mason. Extremely enthusiastic and interesting, her class is so easy that if you don't get an A/B+ there's something wrong with you. She makes it painfully clear what's on the exams.
Great just go to class and talk with her and you will be in
Excellent teacher! She made the class fun and enjoyable. The lectures were very clear and she got you involved with the artwork she presented.
Loves what she teaches, tries to make it fun for all. Work load isnt too heavy, the study guides she gives out for tests tell you everything that might show up on exams. Some don't need the book, but I bought it and it really comes in handy to look stuff up.
She's an awesome professor; very energetic and passionate about her teaching. The one thing I dislike about the class is the amount of materials needed to be memorized for the exams. Don't get me wrong, they are EASY, just too much to memorize for a 100 level course. I don't have to memorize that much in my Physics class.
Professor Bauman makes learning art history a pleasure. You don't mind sitting through class, because she makes what you learn exciting and interesting. Three simple projects throughout the semester, and three tests (including the final) which she gives you word for word study guides to.
Awesome professor!! Actually makes you want to learn this stuff! Very easy going, understanding, and humorous. Those moments she's full of caffeine are classic haha I wish more professors were like her. You will not regret taking her class. Just listen, take notes, and memorize what she puts on the study guides.
I'm sorry, but whoever says this class was an easy A must be on crack. The class was indeed easy, but it wasn't an easy A. Whoever says you don't need the book for this class is also on crack, unless you're a human recorder. The book is mandatory in looking up terms and other materials for the exams.
Amazing teacher. She somehow made Art History seem important, which is rather impressive. I know nothing about art, but she made the class fun, interesting, important, and even relevent. Some really dry assigned readings, but she makes up for it with her lectures. Take her!
Professor Bauman was amazing! So energetic about the topic! You do have to know the stories/myths to do well in this class, but the way she lectures, she actually keeps you interested! Highly recommended.
One of the best class, but you must come to class. But no sweat, because you WANT to come to class and look forward to it every day.
Bauman is an amazing professor. I had to take this course as a gen ed and I was dreading it. She has a enthusiastic personallity that will keep you interested throughout the class. She is funny and although her tests have no curve, she handout study guides over a month in advance. Excellent prof...take her class!
I was definitely not interested in this class, but found myself actually WANTING to go to class. She makes it so interesting. Also, with the 3 papers, she really helps you out, you just have to ask. She'll spend a whole class period going over what the papers should be like. Go to class, take notes, and study a bit and you've got it made.
Dr. Bauman is a wonderful professor. Her lectures are interesting and I found myself looking foward to class. She keeps the material interesting by the way in which she presents it, and her energetic and fun attitude make her a pleasure to be around and talk to. I have to say that she is my favorite professor in my four years at Mason.
She's a really nice professor, and the class is easy too. (this is 100 level) I want to recommend her.
I LOVE HER! This was the first class I've taken where the 75 min flew by! She's fun, inspiring, and helpful. Just don't buy the books, they're interesting, but you don't need them for the course. Take her! ;-)
BEST PROF AT MASON! I've had her for 101 and 102, and 101 is much better, but still both classes are entertaining and easy A's. DON'T BUY THE BOOKS. You won't use them.
Prof Bauman is one of the best at Mason. Not only did I learn so much about art history, I also learned that school is not just about getting grades. There is so much more to it than that. I ended up with an A- in her class, but I learned so much from her that I didn't learn from anyone else during all my years in school.
Dr. Bauman is the best professor on the face of the earth! I loved her class so much, I'm taking her ARTH 360 class in the fall. I thought art history would be boring, but she made me love it. If you want an easy and fun way to fulfill your fine art requirement, take her! She's great. =]
Class was not bad but attendance is manadatory she covers so much material it is crazy. SAVE money don;t buy books cause you won;t need them
She is the best teacher at mason!!! actually makes art history FUN!!! just take good notes in class and you shouldnt need to buy the book!! (i didnt have one and i got an A) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Probably the best teacher at Mason. She makes class so much fun! I wasn't looking forward to taking it b/c I know nothing about art, and I feel so much more passionate about art now...after 1 semester!!! Highly recommended to take her! You will get an A!
Awesome teacher, never new art was a great thing until I took her class, very easy, lecture was actually nice to listen to just study your notes for exams. Strongly reccommend
If you ever get a chance to take Prof Bauman DO IT! She is one of the best professors that I have ever had at George Mason! Her lectures can get a little long but she's a little ball of fire! Amazing woman! AMAZING!
Prof. Bauman is a wonderful person and a fun teacher! She has so much energy, which kept me engaged through her entire lectures, and she has a great sense of humor. She truly seems to care about all of her students, and she is very compassionate when there is a problem. My only complaint is that she sometimes was a little harsh in her grading.
The best and most memorable class I have taken at Mason. The professor was so enthusiastic and energetic, it was impossible to miss a thing. Going to class was like watching a play, you could almost picture everything. She gives you all the basic info you need to sound smart at a museum. Fair, but come to all classes if you want an A
This prof/class is unbelievable - one of the few classes outside of my major that I actually looked forward to in the course of the week. You become enchanted for an hour and 15 minutes twice a week, completely engulfed into the presented art. It's almost like you are walking through a movie plot that contains history and logic. You understand art.
easiest class ever. if you take the notes you'll be fine. theres really no need to read the textbook. tests are easy if you study and take the notes. no pop quizzes or anything hard. a few papers but they're pretty easy. she does take attendance though but her classes are interesting and definitely not boring!
My favorite professor in the 3 years I've attended GMU. Exams were easy, 2x papers limited to 2 pages double spaced, attendance highly recommended. Unless you have a friend who will share notes with you you should go to class. She made MWF 8:30-9:20AM classes worth it. If you call her Mrs. Bauman prepare to have a pissed off Italian to deal with.
Dr Bauman is the BEST teacher I've had at gmu. All around amazing person, amazing lectures, learned so much + learn about life and just living it to the fullest. extremely helpful and fair grader. as long as you attend class and do work you will do well. Also, if you want her to look over your notes she will and she will fill in spots/correct errors
Highly recommended for the Fine Arts requirement. Dr. Bauman is personable and student oriented. Her lectures are interesting, but don't expect much class interaction. She's also a perfectionist, so be sure to spell words correctly.
Um, wow? Whoever said "Greatest Professor at Mason" wasn't joking. She makes boring material look interesting and is EXTREMELY dedicated to being a fantastic teacher. The book is useless; don't buy it. 3 tests and writing assignments. Attendance is mandatory and you're graded on it, but why would you miss this class? It's fantastic!
Amazing teacher. Helpful, respectful, fun, fair . . . really every complimentary adjective. Just go to class and take notes or listen . . you'll get an easy A in what could be a hard subject. She makes the class highly engaging and VERY entertaining, so go to the classes.
The architecture class was a lot of fun, no need for book. Great teacher, attendance mandatory. Study hard and you will do well. Misspelling is deducted so know the words and know the buildings. Great great class.
One of the best professors at Mason. Loves her subject and gets you to love it too. Take notes, study hard, go to class and you'll do well. I got a B+ but I had to work really hard and I am a history and art history major. She just expects a lot from her students but what you give you will get in return. She is FANTASTIC. Take her class!
Take Bauman only if you are going to major in art hist. She clearly knows too much to be teaching a gen ed class. She expects too much from her students. Her exams are extremely hard. The study guides that she gives help a little. She's a cool person but you would have to study your "ass off" for atleast a -B.
I love, love, love her! I took art history 101 just for fun because of her. She is smart as a whip and sassy. Class is fun, but you learn ALOT. Mason better wake up and give her tenure before a wise school sweeps her away; robbing GMU of their best professor. She is so good I may take one of her classes after graduation. Oh, she's pretty cute too!
Great teacher, not as easy as everyone leads you to believe. Just study her notes, memorize the pictures, and understand the concepts behind them and you'll get an A/B. Attendance is mandatory/necessary to get the notes.
Wonderful teacher with a crazy cool personality (which makes for a very entertaining class)! Really knows her stuff and is passionate about the subject. She really gets you to like and appreciate art. Three exams (not cumulative), which are easy if you go to class, take notes, and at least glance back at the material. Highly recommended!
Crazy, Funny Personality. She gts you interested in what she is talking about. Runs around the class, its from all the coffee. Her test are hard with alot of information. i enjoyed the class but would not take it again. It was hard being a gen ed!!!!! Nice lady overall. Attendence is mandatory, she takes roll everyday.

Ok guys, I agree with what everyone said... but honestly, this is not an 'easy A' class... trust me, if you just want an elective in which you do no work at all and get an A do not expect this to be your class. I BUSTED my butt off studying and got a B+.... but, if you want an interesting class and teacher, then go for it... you will like it.
3 tests none are cumulative(even the final). 2 papers: 1 based on reading, other based on a trip to Art Museum in D.C.. Bottomline: Attendance is mandatory, class is fast-paced(hard to keep up with), tests are hard and the papers are time consuming, she's perky and nice but at the end of the day she's not worth taking unless you absolutely have too
Just as everyone says, there are three test non are cumulative. There are 2 papers not more than 2 pages. A very fun and outgoing teacher that I think made me interested in Art History...One of My favorite classes...If need to take Art History she is one of the best. I recommend her...
So .. she's literally one of the best professors I've ever had. I was having some grade issues and she helped me personally to get them back up. I've never had another professor take such an individual interest in student. Having said that, her class is difficult. You really need to study. But she is fantastic. I strongly recommend her.
Without a doubt THE BEST teacher I have had in my entire life. I took four classes with her while I was in college and they were the highlight of my undergrad studies. Her passion is contagious, her lectures are brilliant, informative & clear and she's such a fun person! Take all of her classes, you won't be sorry!
Good teacher. Pretty easy class. Attendance is mandatory but you get a couple of free passes, so you could get extra credit just for being there every class. Tests are pretty easy if you come to class, take good notes, and study. Also, do the readings. There are always questions on the reading and you usually don't cover them in class.
I have taken 3 classes with Professor Bauman starting with ArtH 102, then 340 then 342. She inspired me to get a minor in art history. Her lectures are amazing and keep you on the edge of your seat always wanting to know more. Her tests do require a fair amount of studying - but hey, it's college! YOU MUST TAKE A CLASS WITH HER BEFORE YOU GRADUATE!
This woman is fantastic. She is a brilliant instructor, helpful, funny, interesting. If you need your gen ed class this is fantastic you will fall in love with her! Textbooks are cheap. Just tests and she gives you everything that you need to get an A. TAKE HER!!!! :)
This is a hard class! dont think its an easy A, at all!! I found her to be interesting, but the exams are no joke. Go to every class, and write down everything. I mean everything. If you like art, you will enjoy, if not, look else where. She is tough.

She's amazing and funny. She made Art History so interesting! She had this way of telling stories from the history of art that just grabbed your attention. I always looked forward to this class and I will definitely take more classes with her before I graduate. Her tests are no walk in the park but they follow the study guide. TAKE HER!
She is very fun and energetic!! She makes the material interesting. You must attend class, she keeps track and it will help ur grade. She does not post anything up on Blackboard. Take NOTES!!! The study guides are very helpful and if you dnt know an answer ask her. She will help you. If you study you'll be fine. She's an awesome prof!!!
Take Symbols & Stories with Dr. Bauman! She is a great professor! She genuinely cares and wants to get to know her students! She makes class engaging, ineresting, modern, & purposeful! She never makes you do anything that is "busy" work, everything has a purpose! I'm definately taking another class (not a ARTH major) & keeping in touch with her!
This way the best class I took at Maosn. Dr.Bauman has managed to take a subject I thought I hated and make it something fun and interesting. You do need to take good notes and show up to class if you want to do well
I love her. She is so direct and makes Art History so interesting! This is my second class with her and I plan to take a third with her next semester. (ARTH 360) I'm not even minoring in it. Taking good notes and being to every class will surely get you high grades. She seems like a picky grader at first but in reality, she is very fair.
Great class if you are into art history. But be warned, it is a hard classs. I got an A but had to study my a** off. Also, she does not grade any of the tests herself. Her assistant does, and makes a ton of mistakes. Check your test twice and go see her.
Yes, you have to study. Yes, you have to go to class. However, Prof Bauman has more enthusiasm for her course than most instructors I have come across in a long time plus she is not bad on the eyes if you know what I am saying. She will break down what you need to know and is always eager to help anyone who asks.
By far the best teacher I've had a Mason. The one class i enjoyed going to and she made Art History easy to learn and kind of interesting. Recommend for anyone.
This is my 3rd class with her and I plan to take a 4th next semester hopefully. She's that good and gets you interested in the material. The text is a bit dry but she helps clarify it in class. This is the class that you work your butt off for a B and end up proud of it. She's very blunt and always energetic.
Awesome teacher, really funny and sweet, but can be blunt. Don't give her BS and you're good. Show up and take notes, and try to find a way to ask her about her visit to the Vatican Vault; it is THE BEST story you will ever hear.
Professor Bauman is great! Her lectures are so enjoyable. She takes such boring topics and makes them interesting. I still remember the information i learned in her class! No textbook required.
She is so interesting and lively. she adjusts the class to the students' needs. She is a perfectionist. This class is manageable and it is easy to get an A with a moderate amount of effort.
I cannot say enough good things about Bauman. She knows what she's doing - she is funny, energetic, keeps the class interesting, clear about assignments. She is not exactly an easy grader but she is always willing to help you w/the assignments. If you're not an ARTH major but have to take an ARTH class take it with her or Butler you won't regret it
One of the best classes I've taken. INCREDIBLE professor! You will learn SO MUCH in this course. Be prepared, it's a no BS class. You are going to have to work, but more importantly use your brain and challenge it. I'd take any class with her if only I were an ARTH major.
Professor Bauman is amazing! She is so excited about what she teaches and it makes you excited to learn. Attendance is taken sporadically, but you never know which day so skip at your own risk! Definitely very helpful & has a great sense of humor! Take her class!!
She's awesome as every aspect!!!
This prof. is not easy at all. But her class is not boring at all. Not easy an A.
She knows a lot about the history of architecture, and she can also explain engineering. Never a dull moment in her class!
Hands down one of the best professors at Mason. There's a reason she has 15 pages of positive reviews. I never thought someone would make ARTH interesting to me (I'm a science guy and only took it as a requirement). I spoke with her during office hours a couple of times and she's genuinely a nice person. Wish she could teach all of my classes to me
Dr. Bauman is just WONDERFUL. Geneds are a waste of time for many, but like Dr. Bauman says, this class, ARTH 101, will be the MOST influential class you take (and this is coming from a science major). She ignites in your a fire to see the world, and is passionate about her subject, something that's hard to find amongst professors at George Mason.
This class is so easy. All you have to do is attending the class and you won't have have to study 1 week before exams. I only looked over the notes the night before and I got an A in the class. Professor Bauman is such an inspiring and interesting person you will not regret having her. Textbook was a joke, don't waste money buying it
I took this class as a freshman 4 years ago & still think she was one of my favorite/best professors at Mason! She is so passionate about art & so helpful. Definitely approach her for help & feedback; she's incredibly nice & helpful! It's a great class--you won't regret it! :)
I wish more teachers were like her! I'm a senior who needed this to satisfy a credit boy am I glad I took her class! She is so spunky, funny, sweet, & extremely approachable! She teaches the material well, attendance is mandatory she takes role but your going to want to go to this class. Her stories are insanely funny.
BEST TEACHER AT MASON. Took it as an elective and I've never enjoyed a class so much. She is very passionate about what she teaches and also very funny! She makes architecture much more interesting =)
Possibly best professor at GMU. Took this class as GenEd but looked forward to it the most. I loved her so much I signed up for 2 more of her classes and ARTH is not relevant at all to my major. You will have to put in study hours and word hard, but shes very insightful & interesting. TAKE HER. Theres a reason she has 15+ pages of amazing reviews.
She is clearly the best prof I have ever had. The textbook is not necessary. Attend every lecture and take all the notes from her class and you will be fine. She gives you a study guide, and with the notes you took, and some you can get online, you will do fine. Her class is not an easy A unless you put some effort on it. Love her class
She takes Art 101 WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. For a gen ed, it's way too complicated. She has a PHD in Art so she likes to think everyone will be interested. If you have to study for Art 101 more than major core classes, there is something wrong. Alot of memorization, no multiple choice, no powerpoints, no Blackboard. You HAVE to be in class.
Before taking the class, I dreaded having a 9am ARTH class. But it actually was the most interesting/funny class I have taken. She is so passionate and she makes the class a lot more bearable. Its an easy A if you go to class and take notes. The tests are almost verbatim from the lecture notes. Don't get the book unless you plan on missing class.
I learned a lot from the way she lectured. She's a great professor! very helpful, smart and motivating! Take her!
VERY nice! Don't bother buying the book. Not needed. Won't put slides online, must write them all down. If you can memorize definitions you should do fine. The professor is almost embarrassed that she teaches ARTH 101, she makes it harder than it should be, to make it like an upper level. She can't accept it's for gen ed.
This class was so much better than what I was expecting. Professor Bauman is so passionate and engaging that the information is easy to learn because she makes it fun to learn. No textbook needed which is great, but make sure you come to class because she doesn't post the slides. Take good notes and study and you'll get an A.
Good teacher, makes a required class fun and interesting. Intimidating on the first day, however is easy with grading on papers and tests are generally easy if you study.
Quit being lazy. Her class is much easier than other arth101's professors. I loved attending her class and hearing her life stories. She made the class VERY interesting and I wish she taught other classes as well. She gives you a study guide for her EASY exam. Obviously if you skip, you're gonna fail.
You should be so lucky to have Bauman as a professor. She is the best prf at GMU. She is fair, she is fun and she will work just as hard as she asks you to. She encourages intellectual discovery in art history, nurtures your ideas until they become meaningful to you. Your research will be your passion.
Professor Bauman is a passionate, engaging and challenging prof. She will make you want to learn ,and want to be in her class despite your intimal interest. She is very fair, if you do your best, she will grade you accordingly. I have had her for three classes and she has been fantastic in all of them. Take Bauman, you will love her.
Best Professor I have had at GMU. She makes class interesting No need for the book but be prepared to take good notes. One presentation and a group project
She is a true inspiration. I am an accounting major but she made art history so interesting that I ended up taking architecture with her too. Not an easy class but I learned a lot from her.
She is simply great. This class is not too easy but it is totally worth to take.
I absolutely love professor Bauman!!! After taking her class I seriously considered becoming an Art History major (not really but I loved her class). She is so engaging and passionate about the topic. Her class is not an easy A but easily attainable as long as you pay attention. Highly recommend her!!!
Best professor ever! so down to earth and enjoyable to listen to. I had no interest in art prior to this class but she made it so fun and enjoyable. Definitely have to study to get a good grade but she gives you a study guide. Most tests are written and she's very fair when she grades those so it's easy to get an A
Highly recommend! I was so nervous to take this class but I had no choice since I needed it for my ged ed. Dr. Bauman is an incredible professor! She made a subject I had no interest in VERY engaging and I loved it! It is definitely manageable to get an A (unless you're lazy). If you respect her & her class, she will respect & help you.
She's awesome, definitely makes the worth going to. The class is super fun, can get difficult, but if you go to class, take notes, pay attention, and study you will get an A. Take her class! Don't buy the textbook... if you're into textbooks just rent it. I rented mine, didn't use it once.
She is a horrible professor !! she acts like she's funny and cool in the beginning .. but when you actually start taking the tests you notice how harshly she grades her tests !! and she teaches art history as if shes teaching calculus or something really important ! DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU NEED TOO ! DONT DOO MY MISTAKE !!
Excellent professor. Definitely not an easy A, but you won't just go through the motions in this class. Active thinking required. She values your input and is fair and reasonable. Easily one of the top five classes I have taken at Mason.
Amazing professor. She's a riot and cares about her students and her class like no other. She doesn't feed the class anything but encourages you to ask questions and figure things out on your own. Gets the wheels turning in all the right ways.
Prof Bauman is really nice and funny. She cracks jokes all the time, and tries to make class fun. Her 1st exam is easy just take notes and follow the study guide. I would go through the study guide and write out answers for each section before exams. She gives extra credit for each exam so take advantage She takes surprise attendance so go to class
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She's so nice and funny and makes learning about art history very interesting. Three exams overall but straight off the study guide. One short paper due in the middle of the semester. Very straightforward and fun class.
Amazing professor! She makes you want to actually show up to class and her tests are straight forward. Super nice and funny too
She's the most amazing professor here at GMU. A down to earth person. She makes you think outside the box and respects your opinion. She inspired me to minor in Art History . A very dedicated professor.
She is a very good professor, would recommend her. Classes are fun but you have to do the reading because she gives pop quizzes. nothing hard. Just read before class, attend class, study from the study guide she provides and you'll get an A.
Professor Bauman is a great professor. She lets you know from the start how she wants things, and how the course will be. You probably should go to lecture, there are things she says that will be on the exams that won't be in the book or slides. There are daily "tickets" where she asks questions to see if you read. Recommend her if anybody!!
I took this class just to get my fine art out of the way Freshman year, but I thoroughly enjoyed the teacher as an individual and the class. The first half of the course is lecturing and memorizing architects and buildings and the second half is a fun group project where we create a campus building. Class is fun and easy, and she is clear and fun.
Simply awesome. Really enjoyed attending all her lectures. Super personable and engaging especially for a morning class. Gives out study guides before the exams that are very helpful! Recommend textbook to pass.
Full of energy and hilarious. Prof. Bauman actively engages and energizes the class throughout her lesson. Tests are not too difficult but require studying like any other test. Class attendance is not mandatory but you won't be bored if you go. Great professor and made what seemed to me a not so fun subject, much better.
You will DIE in Dr. Buaman's class. (In a good way of course) She is energetic and really cares about her students. She clearly teaches you about art and makes it fun. Her stories are great and make the class more interesting. The class consists of pop quizzes, but if you read you will be fine. Exams are clear and concise, just read and take notes.
Professor Bauman is one of the most inspirational and passionate professor you will ever be lucky enough to take a class from. Her lectures are poetic, mesmerizing, and interesting. She is so erudite in art history(As Professor Gregg says, it's two words art and history and you have to know both) and she will make you want to take more!
TESTS ARE HARD. she is a tough grader. dont take her if you are not willing to work hard study a lot. for a 101 class there is A LOT of material. i regret taking her. although i have to admit, she made class fun and interesting. but to be honest. she takes the subject too seriously. not all students are going to be as attached to the topic as her
There's 2 tests and a 3 week group project you can only work on in class. She's not into regurgitated answers, you have to think and make connections with the material for tests. She gives pop quizzes, half credit for being there and half for answering one super easy question. Basically free grade if you read, longest we read was 12 pages.
Learning art was quite boring at times especially during the end of the semester but she tries hard to make it fun. Pay attention to the examples and her PowerPoint slides she talks about in class because it'll def help you on the exams. She's very energetic and loves when people discuss their ideas. Study guides are basically exams.
She's a great professor. Took her in the morning and it was easy to pay attention in class because she's hilarious. Make sure you read through the textbook because she gives out pop quizzes from the book.
I took 3 classes with Dr. Bauman while at GMU - the first was mandatory for fine arts and the other two were out of choice because the first class was so awesome. She's an incredible teacher and she honestly changed my life. Tests are very tied to class material - if you show up and pay attention, you'll be fine. Tough but fair in grading.
She's a very helpful teacher that will cut you slack if you need it. I recommend her to anyone that is looking to take Art History. You have to take good notes to pass, there is no other way
Lisa is a very energetic lady. She can talk on and on about a work of art and gives very good information. Only downside is her old fashioned teaching method. She doesn't believe in posting powerpoint slides on BB. Also, no computers or phone use. Because of this, you must take all your notes by hand. If you can write fast, you should be fine.
Wow finally an Old School Teacher who doesn't let students surf the web while in class!. She is there to teach and does it well. If you hate art no problem you will still learn and have fun doing it. She will change your mind. Take notes, have fun and no worries there. Go over the study guides!
Most engaging class I have taken thus far. Prof Bauman is energetic and an incredible teacher. She really cares for her students and will remember you outside the classroom. Two exams that come straight from the lecture, a field trip, and a design projects. This is the prefect art credit for those who aren't artistic but more interested in history.
Lisa is phenomenal. By far one of the best professors I've taken while at GMU. She is inspirational, hilarious, down to earth and just an overall knowledgeable teacher. I would (and have) recommend her to anyone, regardless of major. She makes the lectures fun and her tests aren't too difficult if you take notes. TAKE HER, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
Amazing professor for art history. Take her if you can! She can relate to her students, and is extremely passionate about teaching the subject material. The tests are not challenging at all because she reviews what is on them before. One project where you go to the art museum in DC. Requires attendance and pop quizzes based off of reading. Easy A!
Dr. Bauman is one of the most inspirational people I've met at Mason. Her lectures are clear, fun, and I always walk out retaining 90% of what was taught.
This is the most hardest class I ever took in my life. Geesh for a 100 level I felt as if it was a 300 or 400 level. Her test are so HARD!!! My goodness, there is so much memorization, get ready to study. I would suggest you take someone else. There are two test and a group project and field trip project. She doesn't post her notes on blackboard.
Dr. Bauman is exceptionally brilliant but for someone who is not very literate in art, I really struggled. She is REALLY hilarious and has amazing lectures. Although I did not put in enough effort into this class, I would absolutely recommend her. She will help you but get ready to be productive!
I originally thought I was going to hate this class and it would be a bore, but I actually looked forward to this class every week! She has a ton of energy and is hilarious in class. DEFINITELY TAKE HER. She doesn't put PowerPoints on BlackBoard so you have to show up to class to get the notes or else you're lost. Her exams are straightforward.
I came into the class thinking I would hate it, being a required gen ed and all. Lisa immediately changed that and it ended up being my favorite class. She is really funny and super passionate about her class. Tests are straight forward, go to class and take notes and you won't need the optional book.
Dr. Bauman is one of the best professors for Art History! She's super helpful and her lectures are hilarious and fun. Tests are straight from the lectures and super easy, but you do have to attend class, because she doesn't post powerpoints on black board.
As a person, she is funny and awesome. As a professor, she is strict and wants you to do the work in order to get a good grade. She does help you out in case you get stuck.
WONDERFUL professor... kept class interesting with her energetic personality. Attendance is important as she doesn't post PowerPoints to blackboard. Provides study guides--exams are pretty easy. I loved this class and would definitely take it again. Gave me a new perception on art. (textbook was barely used just fyi).
Strict teacher, the two exams are so hard. I put lots of effort, however, I got an A-. The textbook is not mandatory, just come to class and take notes. The field trip and design studio are interesting. If you want to fulfill your fine art requirement, I will recommend you take the DANCE125!!!
Attendance isn't mandatory but she does not post to Blackboard so GO TO CLASS. I'd never taken an art class in my life but still managed A's on every exam. The museum field guide assignment is basically a guaranteed A if you put a little effort into it. Dr. Bauman was literally an angel and I loved her and the class to pieces!!
A decent human being could not complain about anything for this course. Lisa Bauman is a very engaging lecturer so, preface: attendance is not mandatory but you will fail if you do not go. However, lecture is entertaining so you WANT to go! Would take again in an instant.
Such a wonderful woman and really wants her students to succeed. That being said you have to work hard in this class, if you slack or do not try on assignments, you won't do well. Her exams require a full understanding of the material so her 300 level classes are not for people looking for an easy A. Her classes are meant for students in the major.
Lisa is fantastic! If I could take her class again I would. She is hilarious and approachable. As for the actual class make sure to take each test as there is only three given and make sure to do each study guide. Take clear, understandable notes because she doesn't post the lectures on blackboard. Otherwise, she is super great!
She is the best professor I have ever had. She is kind, inspirational, and knows her stuff. If you ever get the chance, take a class with her.
Amazing professor and I highly recommend her!! She is so funny and gets students involved in learning the material. I am not an art student by any means but this was probably my easiest class. 3 tests all based on pictures and knowing the concepts. No memorization of photos. Show up to class and take notes and you will pass. TAKE HER!!!!!!
Bauman is a firecracker! I love her! Very sweet and really knows her stuff. Grades hard because she wants you to understand the material, not just memorize it. If you are struggling she will go above and beyond to help you. I am so happy I took her class. It was challenging but entertaining.
Terrible grader. Quoted from the professor: "If I can take off points from something, I will". Does not allow any form of extracredit under any circumstances, even if the student is struggling from the beginning.
Professor Bauman is an amazing professor who makes this course intellectual stimulating. as long as you show up to class, listen, and take notes you will do fine on the exams and the project or the final aren't too hard either if you put in the work. definitely would take a class with her again.
Professor Bauman is a gem of George Mason. She is deeply intelligent and you will walk away from each class a better thinker. She makes things challenging in a productive way. You have to study and take time with this class to get an A, but she will make you want to earn it. Definitely recommend.
In addition to the usual tests after lectures, no slides are posted. To pass you have to go to class and take notes. Instead of a final she had groups made for a final project. My class was an architecture history class so it might not apply to her other classes, just a warning though.
She is hands down the most amazing professor you'll ever have at GMU. She's down to Earth, hilarious, and very clear in what she wants from her students and what she teaches. You will actually walk away learning a bit more about the world, even if your major has nothing to do with the class. If you have to take social science, take her class!
Quiz every week and it is 5% of your overall grade. Two museum projects which required you to write an argument paper. The two essays graded harshly. Although Dr. Bauman told the class not only once but many times to NOT write a sandwich essay (Hook, intro, body paragraphs, and conclusion), and she announced it like it's going to be very easy. Howe
I really enjoyed her class! She's teaching you to look at art and think critically, which can be applied other subjects and real life. She makes the material really interesting and wants you to succeed; so if you're struggling you should visit Office Hours early on. Overall a 10/10
go to class and TAKES NOTES, as no slides are posted unless there is an exam. LOTS of MEMORIZE!!! If you are bad of memorizing, maybe you'll have a hard time to pass the exam, as you Need to SPELL CORRECTLY the terminology in the exam: buildings, architects, locations, structures, etc. lights off during class for showing slides.
Dr. Bauman is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are very engaging, and as long as you take notes and can memorize things, she's an easy A. I love her so much and I wish I could take her for all of my classes.
She is one of the best professors that I have had here at Mason. She is incredibly hilarious and inspring in what she is teaching. The class consists of 2 tests which are 25% of grade each and 2 group projects that are each 25% of your grade. Actually have to go to class since she doesn't post her lectures.
I'm stunned that anyone can give a poor rating to Dr Bauman. They are obviously the students that never showed up nor applied themselves to the small amount of effort required by this course, and are now complaining because they weren't handed a passing grade. You have to go to class. Every answer to every test is given in her lectures.
SHE IS INCREDIBLE!!! I absolutely loved her and she made art history so much fun! She does require attendance because all her quizzes are lecture based and the notes aren't posted, but she made going to class so much fun that I never minded going :) She loves it when you interact with her and will try and learn you by name even in her giant lecture
Phenomenal professor! She really makes an effort to help you as much as she can. She curses like a sailor and runs around the room. She is very funny and easy to talk to one on one. She tries to get to know students which definitely made me enjoy her class even more. She lectures all class but she is open to students adding in their thoughts.
The main purpose of this class is to design something. She always assigns a group project of some sort. She's an amazing professor and very responsive and willing to help you. Tests are not really that difficult but are generally self-explanatory and full of discussion so you can really break it down your way.
She is honestly one of my favorite professors at GMU. She makes her lectures really fun and interesting. It's honestly a simple A if you just show up.
She is such a good teacher. During lecture, she will tell stories about her family and her experiences and she swears a lot but it makes the lecture so much fun. For my class, we had a quiz at the start of the week and she took off 2 of the lowest grades. There is no final but there are two projects (they're easy). You wont regret taking her class!
If you are interested in any form of art you will love this class. Professor Bauman has a way of connecting with students and really being able to open your eyes to the world. After taking this class, I look at a lot of things from a different point of view. Would definitely recommend to those who aren't art majors, but it doesn't matter either way
She is one of the best professors at GMU. She is so nice and sweet. Lectures were always entertaining and she has a great sense of humor. She cares for her students and was always there to help. Easy to talk to and the class was an easy A if you attended lectures and paid attention. I would definitely recommend her!!
Prof Bauman was really great! I'm not an art person, but this class was very interesting and engaging. If you need to knock out an art elective, this is the class to do it in. I learned a lot and honestly enjoyed it a ton.
AVOID!!DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS FOR YOUR ART CREDIT!!-ESPECIALLY IF YOUR A MATH/SCIENCE PERSON WHOS USE TO JUST KNOWING THE FACTS!! she makes this class so HARD for a INTRO CLASS!! she wants you to think out side of the box -coming from a student who ACTUALLY tries their best in school
Yes, she's super friendly and nice but she's all about getting your money's worth out of this class. Even though this is a 100 level class, she makes it seem like its beyond that. DONT TAKE ARTH. FOR YOUR ART CREDIT IF YOU WANT AN EASY A CAUSE THIS CLASS IS DEF NOT THAT!! Get ready to actually think and make connections GOOD LUCK and PRAY FOR ME
Ok I took this as my art elective class. This was harder than my main core classes. I legit had to study so hard for all the exams. It is not multiple choice so you basically need to know it. She doesn't post PP on BB so you have to come and take word for word notes or else you'd fail the exam. This class stressed me out. need to word hard for grde
I loved Dr. Baumans art history class! She is very passionate about her work and always energetic. There are no exams, just a weekly quiz on the material from the previous week so it is an easy A as long as you pay attention and take notes.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN AT MASON! I CAME IN THINKING THAT ART + HISTORY WILL BE SUPER BORING, BUT OMG DR. BAUMAN IS A REAL GEM! HER LECTURES ACTUALLY TAKE YOU ON AN ADVENTURE INTO THE PAST! SHE MAKES SURE YOU GET THE MATERIAL! SHE IS SUPER COOL!
She makes a boring subject somewhat manageable. The quizzes are straight forward. You have to attend class to do well because she does not post her PowerPoints on Blackboard.
Professor Bauman is my favorite teacher. She is so passionate about what she teaches that it makes the class very interesting. She has quizzes every week about previous material. If you study for them, you'll be fine. She has two projects about going to the museum, which was fun. There is no final and attendance matters.
AVOID !!!!!!!!!
Great professor, inspired me into the world of architecture. as long as you come to each class, write notes, solve homeworks, study the study advice well, you should do really well.
Amazing lectures, I have learned so much about Art and its history because of her. I feel like I can share what I have learned with my peers! She is super enthusiastic! Either take notes in class or read the book, some of the quizzes are tough (drops 2). 2 fun projects that involve a trip to DC, not too bad. Attendance is mandatory.
Amazing professor, absolutely loved coming to this class and learning about art history when it doesnt relate to my major at all. Shes hilarious and caring. She gives quizzes weekly on tuesdays and there is one big art museum project. The attendance grade at the end can boost your grade from B to an A- so show up!!
HIGHLY recommend for your art credit. I struggled a bit at the beginning with the weekly quizzes, but then I contacted Professor Bauman who very accessible and very helpful in giving methods to improve my grade. She is hilarious and made a gen-ed very enjoyable. She treats students like students. As long as you do your part she will do hers.
I loved her! Honestly the most interesting professor iv taken so far. Her classes make you want to hop on a plane and go see all the art in the world. The class is an easy A if you give it some effort. Totally worth it!
HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. I thought this would be an easy class to take as an elective, this ended up being the class I put more effort into to pass than my core classes. Do not take this class if you'e never taken art history before. It is not easy. She gives A LOT of homework, the exams are extremely hard and the textbook is dreadful!
Best professor I've ever had!!! I took her as an elective but she taught me a lot more than just art. Her class consists of mostly lectures but everything she teaches she's passionate about. She teaches in a way in which you are interested and actually understand. I would without a doubt take another class with her!! BEST COLLEGE PROFESSOR!!
Terrible teacher, I went to her office hours for help and she pretended to care but when I handed in the project she gave me points off of things that she helped me with. She's tough with grading, makes you know how to spell the names of architects and buildings that are completely ridiculous.
LOVE HER. LOVED her class. First class that taught me to think! We didn't just regurgitate her lectures. We actually THOUGHT about stuff. Her lectures are easy to follow, but you'll need to take good notes and ask questions if you don't understand. And tests come from the lectures so attendance is a must.
Good sense of humor, very down to earth person. Treats everyone like adults. Just come to class and take notes and you should get a good grade easy.
Hands down, the best professor I have taken at Mason. She genuinely wants you to get an A and if she sees the class having difficulties, she will try a different strategy to try and make it easier for us to understand. I wrote a funny comment on my quiz and she took time out to email me to say that she found it super hilarious. Genuinely love her!
She's an amazing professor that makes class interesting, but definitely won't take anyone's BS. No tests, just quizzes and if you don't buy the textbook, you have to make sure to come to class because she doesn't post the powerpoints. She also gives in class exercises randomly once in awhile.
She is sweet and has amazing lectures, but her exams are structured poorly and her TA is an extremely harsh grader. The group project is demanding but she primarily grades you on completion. She is extremely funny and approachable and makes architecture easy to understand, but this is a challenging course overall. Good choice if you like art.
Possibly the best professor GMU. Not only is she excellent at teaching, but she does a fantastic job with getting to know students and making the class interesting. Also, her class includes a group design project that is both easy and allows students to get creative amongst each other. If you need an art credit, definitely take her class.
She is a kind, funny, caring professor who genuinely wants you to understand the material. She makes you think critically and analyze, something that most art history classes don't do. No use of the textbook, but she gave lots of primary sources to read for hw. Pay attention and take good notes. Overall a great class taught by an amazing prof.
Prof. very fun. Key things about ARTH342: -Participation is 10% but you get 2 free passes. 6 short hw, 1 score dropped. -Exams are FAST. -Rent the textbook if you never took ARTH before. -Take detailed notes. No laptops allowed. -Her 3 key points for artwork analysis: Patron significance, visual analysis, connection to other artworks/concepts/vocab
she makes art history so exciting and interesting. she is so genuine and passionate. there are biweekly quizzes and you have to show up to class to get the notes and do well. there is 1 project but it''s super easy. she makes sure her students have everything to succeed. she's a great professor.
Professor Bauman is very funny teacher. She makes the material relatable and easy to understand. You have to make sure you take notes because the class is based on what you learn in lecture. The quizzes can be tough sometimes but as long as you study hard you can pass. There is a project but it is really easy to do as long as you put in effort.
Dr. Bauman is so knowledgeable and personable--she cares about each of her students and wants them to have the best learning experience possible. She makes her lectures so engaging and comprehensible, and she even does study guides for tests! One of the best professors I've ever had.
For a class that I took as a 'general elective' for credits, this was way too much work. Only take it if you have a genuine interest in the topic. There is a lot of work and it is time consuming. She is nice. You will learn a lot. Tests are hard. Tough grader.
I loved Professor Bauman. I came into her class not knowing what I was getting myself into but her amazing lectures and personality made it worth it. She was always willing to listen and she's very caring. However, if you want an A you have to really work for it in her class. She made me grow a liking for art that I never knew I had.
She is one of the most amazing professors I have ever met. She is exceptional in her lectures. I can't reccomend her enough. The thing with her class is that it is lecture heavy, but only attending and listening is enough to get an A.
Bauman was one of my favorite professors. The lectures are fun, she brings in models, and so detailed. The tests aren't that hard because she gives you a detailed study guide and the answers are given on the slides. The end group project is so fun, we got to build a visitor center. I highly recommend her!
The class itself is very fun and engaging. She cracks jokes to relieve tension, and isn't afraid to explain controversial works of art. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she was very understanding of peoples issues, and even bumped everyone's grade up by two points to make up for having to take the class online!
One of the best professors I have ever had. She is really funny and outgoing in class. There are three exams, no quizzes, and one project that involved going to the National Gallery of Art.
Professor Bauman actually dives deep into the content she teaches and expects you to take lots of notes. Makes lectures engaging and cracks jokes all the time! Exams aren't too difficult as long as you study beforehand. Make sure to do the homeworks as they will be your stepping stones to the final project.
BEST PROFESSOR AT GMU! She makes the class extremely fun and engaging. If you show up for lectures, participate a little, and take good notes you will pass with an A. The only reason why people do bad is because they barely show up or pay pay attention. The material is very simple and easily comprehendible. All tests/quizzes were multiple choice.
I loved Professor Lisa! She by far is one of the best professors I have had at GMU. She is hilarious, I always enjoyed all her lectures. As long as you attend lecture and take good notes, you will do well on her exams. There is 3 exams and 1 project, which was not difficult. As long as you work for it, it should not be difficult to get an A.
Best teacher at GMU hands down. She cares about your future, your success, and tries to expose you to new ideas and perspectives. Shes an amazing story teller and entertains the class with her passionate renditions. We had 1 project (very easy) and 3 tests (straight forward & she prepares you). Overall: amazing, easy, best Mason Core Ive taken :)
Professor Bauman is one of the best professors at GMU. Her lectures were engaging and always hilarious - she has an amazing sense of humor. For each exam, she provides a study guide and none of the exams are cumulative. You can tell she actually cares about her students and wants them all to have an excellent experience in her class. Easy A.
She's very caring and humorous. She was flexible and handled the online shift (COVID-19) very well. There are 3 exams and 1 easy project to visit the National Art Gallery in DC (or online tour). Lectures aren't posted on BB and the content has a lot of historical info on art concepts, so if history isn't your strong suit, consider another course.
Dr. Bauman is a fantastic teacher! I've had her for two classes now and she gives 100% in each. Super passionate about the topics and its very clear she has extensive knowledge in her field. Her lectures were always engaging & fun, she is super nice & responds quick on email. Tests required some effort but if you have good notes you'll be fine.
Taking ART 101 online, nice teacher, exams are fine, study questions were not very useful but they were ok... two short paper, many quizzes and two exams.
Took her in the fall and my ENTIRE class was doing terribly. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEE don't take her class. At one point 80% of the class was emailing her about how hard the class was and she blamed us for not studying enough. This ended up being the hardest class I took all semester. Plus she can be snarky. AVOID HER.
I don't know what that earlier dude is talking about. I was IN that class and it was amazing. And at the end she emailed that over 70% of the class got an A or a B. Srsly great class; she cares a TON.
One of the nicest and most helpful teachers I have had at Mason. This class, however, may be the hardest class I have ever had. I am getting A's so far... but the assignments are challenging. Not long, but challenging. Incredibly challenging. Put your thinking cap on.
Professor Bauman is one of the most passionate teachers I've ever had. Her lectures are awesome and engaging. I like art history a lot so the subject matter is fun, but it is also challenging. She makes you think and draw connections not just memorize things. If you wanna learn and maybe also fall in love with art history take her!!
The whole class is based on a 3 part project (which does boost your grade somewhat) and exams. She assigns like 4-6 videos each week as part of a module and each video can range from 7 minutes to 40 minutes. The class was wayy more difficult than it needed to be. You can not get the answers to the study guides anywhere but the videos and its hard.
She gives online lectures every week. These videos have no captions which are not accomadating for me due to the audio levels i would have to rewatch just to hear her clearly. The exams are based on the lecture videos which you think would be easy also bc its a 100 level class but she makes it harder than its suppose too. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID
Prof. Bauman's class was fun and her lectures are cool. I've seen her get some low ratings for the difficulty of the work. I guess people are used to basic multiple choice questions where you're regurgitating facts. But she's wonderful and yeah her work makes you think hard, but if you pay attention and put in effort, you'll be good to go.
She is so sweet and her lectures are amazing. She's really helpful through email since its an online async course. She provides study guides and they are helpful if you pay close attention to her videos then break down each thing she talks about. Her exam has multi choice, short response, and fill in blanks. Visitor center group project was easy.
I absolutely LOVED this class. She has tons of energy and enthusiasm and it comes across even online. You have to watch the videos and use the study questions, but then those questions are the exams so it's really direct. Group project was cool
Prof. Bauman was super nice! This class was extremely easy, the lecture videos can get pretty long from one week to the other but pay attention to everything she says/answers for the practice questions (all the answers are there). Because fo this, I struggled a bit with the weekly quizzes. And the final project is extremely easy! She's awesome :)
She was an amazing professor and very easy. Video lectures do take up a lot of time and you have to watch them to answer the study questions. No exams, and quizzes are open note. I would highly recommend her. Easy A. She is also very nice, understanding, and passionate about the subject of art.
She is the best teacher I've ever had. The class is insanely easy, no tests/quizzes/exams. 2 projects, 1 group project, and a graded sketchbook/notebook. She's an easy grader as long as you put in the effort, and she's very understanding. Lisa is also HILARIOUS (and i'm not over exaggerating). 10000% recommend this class and this professor.
An amazing professor!! There is only one graded project other than the exams and it is so easy! The only issue is that if you don't take notes or listen to the lecture, you won't pass your exam. She gives extra credit on a random day in class so make sure you show up. She is so passionate about art and brings life to the classroom, take her!!!
Professor Bauman was such an amazing lecturer and made this class fun and interesting! I was never into art and now I have a new interest and love for it! You have to take notes and pay attention in class, but thats not hard since she never makes it boring. Theres no homework but only tests that were open note and one easy project (no presenting)
10/10 professor. Very understanding and when taking her class you can see the passion she has for the subject. Tests are pretty reasonable, study your notes and you should be fine, and the final project seems to be fun. Would 100% recommend it to any students who needs to take an art class.
Lisa is clearly very passionate about art history! PLEASE go to class, if you go to class you don't need to buy the textbook, she also always has a cumulative study guide up on her slideshows before lecture. Take notes because you can use them on your exams on a notecard. No homework and 3 exams and an easy project. Very interesting professor.
Professor Bauman is the professor you want to take if you're looking for fun, meaningful, and an easy-A general elective. Art history has never been this fun through my whole life and the lectures are super fun & inspirational. 3 multiple choice exams (40Qs) with index cards, 1 easy paper, bunch of EC opportunities if you show up in class.
This class has 3 exams and a writing-focused project. Listen to her lectures well; she gives a large notecard before the exam so you can use it on the exam. The exams can be tough if you don't take good notes. Attendance isn't required but she gives a TON of extra credit. No homework and barely any studying.
Lisa Bauman is one of the best professors I have ever had. Clearly she loves students, loves the material, loves to teach, and is really good at it! Her lectures are enjoyable to listen to and participate in. Pay attention is class, because exams are directly over covered material. Super fun group project in last month of semester. 100% best choice
Absolutely the best professor I've had at Mason. You have to put in the work for sure, but if you do, you'll be rewarded with excellent feedback, hilarious jokes, and a super fun class to enjoy in the midst of a hectic semester.
One of the best professors at GMU. She is so energetic and genuinely hilarious. She made material that might be boring for some students incredibly interesting, and made learning easy.
Professor Bauman is amazing. She inspired me to pursue architecture, and gave me so many opportunities to strengthen my application to architecture school. She clearly cares about every student and will follow up with you about anything you need in the class. She's one of the best professors and teachers I've ever had. If you can, take her class.
Amazing professor. If you are interested in Art History for sure go with her class.
One of the best professors I've had. SUPER nice. She sends emails when you do good which only made me wanna do better. The class I took was during summer and online. It was 5 weekly quizzes (one quiz at the end of each the week) and two projects that were taking pictures of houses in my neighborhood and buildings near me. Only, slightly long videos
Professor Bauman is far by the chillest professor I've had. We only have 3 exams and had one assignment the whole semester. Attendance isn't mandatory but you'd have to go to class and take notes on her lectures for the exams. It's mostly vocabs but for the last two exams it has more. Gives out extra credit to students that attend. Easy A class!
I'd step in front of a bus for Lisa. Her tests require critical thinking, which was hard at first, however she is the kindest and most caring person I've ever met. She genuinely cares about your wellbeing, and makes sure you're keeping up with work if you show signs of slacking. She has the best personality, and an even better passion for teaching.
Mrs.Bauman was wonderful and took a lot of pride and joy in what she taught. I learned quite a lot from the semester and I respect her for that. BUT if you have little to no interest in art or art history do not take the class because it is not an easy "A" at all. You do have to put in some type of effort. Besides that it was a stress free class
Great professor. Definitely loves her work and is passionate while also making the class interesting.
One of the best professors I ever had. I liked her so much I took her again for a minor elective! She's very energetic and bubbly which keeps her lectures very interesting. She is also very funny! My only issue in her ARTH 103 class was that the quizzes asked very specific questions not always covered in her study guides. Still, take her!
I took this class because it sounded interesting and easy, and I need an art credit. I found out that it is interesting, but not easy at all, she gets the best out of you. She does tend to go a little fast on the lectures, but majority should still end up getting the point. I've developed taking her class, she's a great professor.
Professor Bauman makes art very interesting, especially if you have no interest or understanding of it. She has a lot of energy, and she is funny. We get extra credit points for each test (3) which helps a lot. There are 4 projects as well in the class, but they're easy. Make sure to go to lectures or you won't pass the class.
This is the most fun course I have taken at GMU so far. Professor Bauman is an incredible professor and very entertaining. The class relies heavily on 3 projects, 3 tests, and attendance. Getting an A is very achievable since the projects are creativity based and for the tests you are given a front and back half paper to write notes on.
She's such a sweetheart and her class is very easy if you go to the lectures. She gives extra credit on exams for just showing up to class, you can earn up to 8 extra points on the exam for showing up to class. One warning though is if you're not interested in art history DO NOT TAKE, it can get super boring and hard to learn.
Lisa Bauman is super nice, loved her, she cares for her students, gives good feedback, she also does extra credit out of nowhere which really helps with exams because she adds it to your tests. The class will be boring if you are not interested in art and the history of art. Tests are 50 multiple choice, you get a cheat sheet but they're not easy.
She is very energetic and tries to make the class interesting. I found it to be a difficult because I am not personally interested in the subject so for me, it used to get boring. Difficult to take notes because she goes by very very fast. Cheat sheet which kinda helps but not a lot because there is a lot of info. 3 tests and 4 projects.
One of my favorite professors at this school and I'm not even an art history major. You will absolutely not regret taking a class with her as her lectures are so engaging and she's so passionate about what she teaches that it rubs off on you. The work isn't easy, but it'll pay off if you put in the effort.
The reason why the class is challenging is that most of the grading comes from the exams. You have to do good enough to actually do well in her class. However, she gives extra credit, which is an advantage. Her extra credit does boost the grade, even if the exams can be hard.
Class is lecture heavy so be prepared to listen and take good notes because most of your grade is from the exams which are based on the lectures. She gives a lot of extra credit to students who show up and pay attention in class.
I'm not much into art or history, but Lisa made it very interesting, and I found every lecture very interesting and informative. Next to no outside of class work, along with some extra credit for attending lectures made the class very easy.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He lectures are structured like stories that are easy to follow.
the best professsor ever
She makes the class very interesting. Actually learned stuff here.
Professor Bauman is really great! I don't think you can regret having her as a teacher. She is so real and funny, it makes students more excited to go to her class. The classes are pretty lecture heavy though, so keep that mind mine. Additionally, I found the tests/exams to be challenging. But overall, she's a great professor
The class itself is really boring, but the professor made it way better as she is knowledgeable and enjoyable to listen to. Pretty much 3 tests is all you graded on and each has 50-75 questions to study which is quite ridiculous. I got this grade because of my own fault. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND IF YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ART AND THINK THIS IS EASY.
She is a bit weird. She will call you out for talking or being on your phone. Lowkey passive aggressive. Wished her assignments were worth more. Exams are super hard and long for no reason. Lecture is extremely long. Grateful for the extra credit though!
I would 100% recommend her for your art core! The lectures can seem long, but she makes it interesting/fun (just make sure to take good notes/pay attention as the slides don't provide enough info!). Also, I would recommend her arth 101 class if you are not so into group work/projects (arth 103 is rlly collaborative, while 101 is individual work).
This was one of my more enjoyable classes of the semester, she is super caring and will genuinely try to help you get the grade you want. Just make sure you show up to class and you will get a good grade. Exams are a bit tough.
I highly recommend having her as a professor, attendance is mandatory but she is very passionate about her classes which makes the lectures entertaining. She's always there to listen if something wrong and really prompts growth. Her tests are kind of hard but if you follow her lectures and make sure to study your notes before you should be fine!
Professor Bauman herself is pretty nice but thats where the good ends. I have had elementary teacher's with more useful lecture slides to help you learn. She treats the class as if 90% of her students aren't forced to take the class, her exams are super hard. If you do not have a genuine deep love for art she will make your life very miserable.
This professor makes a 100 class more like a 400 level class, she has no sympathy for students forced to take her class. Her class notes and study questions are almost as useless as her herself and as a stem student who has taken many hard classes, she is easily the worst professor I have had at GMU, PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY.
Absolutely horrendous professor, worst college class I have ever taken in my life, definitely should be more like a 400 level class absolutely not 100 level.
If I could take more classes with her, I would!! She's so bubbly and amazing to talk to. Try to reach out to her outside, you will love her, even after the semester I still would stop to say Hi and just won't forget her character. Her classes are very lecture-heavy, so pay attention and take notes. But it's very easy!
Nice professor but that's it, most of information on tests aren't even included in the presentations posted online. Meaning, you have to come to the class to take NOTES and if you miss out on information, you're screwed. Was studying for days only for tests questions to ask information that I did not learn from the presentations posted online.
She is an amazing lecturer and a sweet lady. She clearly cares a lot about what she teaches and makes her lectures very interesting. There was only 2 homework assignments for the semester and they where fun. (not essays) You will get a little lost in the content if you miss a bunch of lectures.
Prof Bauman is energetic, passionate about her subject, knowledgable, and commands respect. It's a lecture heavy class until the last month when we go into the mix and do a design project in groups. She's incredibly kind and caring and I would take her again!
This professor is full of herself and thinks students do poorly because they have poor reading comprehension and has nothing to do with how terrible she is at teaching. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE.
If you need an easy art credit, this class is not for you. A rating over 5 on a 5-point scale should tell you something is wrong, do not be fooled by the rating. The Only way to succeed in this class is if you get every word out of her lectures because the PowerPoints won't help you.
Extremely snide professor, quite possible the worst professor I have ever had
Although the content wasn't the most entertaining, prof. Bauman definitely tried her best to make the lectures enjoyable. The tests weren't difficult as you get a list of study questions and she allows a cheat sheet on exams. She also gave many hints on possible FRQs. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but would get extra credit opportunities if there.
Prof. Bauman's ARTH103 is a lecture-heavy class, but her passion for the subject makes it engaging. Attend every class, take thorough notes, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy ai for exam prep to succeed. An enjoyable Art core option.
Such an amazing professor, she cares so much about architecture and that enthusiasm makes the lectures so engaging. Her exams were ripped directly from her material, and her projects were fun and didn't feel like a bear. 2 Exams, 3 Projects (Individual, Duo, and Team). Learned so much about architecture in the class.
The class is few assignments/essentially no homework so the 3 exams and 2 projects are worth your entire grade. That being said Dr Bauman is incredibly passionate about the subject making the lectures incredibly enjoyable, she is an easy grader on her projects, she gives extra credit in class, and she lets you have a cheat notecard for her exams.
Great professor, makes the subject very interesting even though Im not a fan of art history. Make sure to attend every class because she gives extra credit at the end which increases your test score. There are 2 projects one which you have to go to DC and visit a museum and the other one is a video and answer questions. The tests are a bit difficult
Basically just take notes and attend class. She let you have a cheat sheet to use on the test, but the TA creates it and grades it. My grade is bad because I don't attend class lol, but if you are interested in art then would highly recommend, and if you don't then would highly not recommend
shes great. shes good at engaging. i can actually learn from her even tho im not interested in art history. gives a lot of easy extra credit. tests are easy since she makes it clear what will be on it.
As long as you show up to class you should be fine. She gives out extra credit often (you can have up to 5-7 extra credit points for every test), and theres 2 midterms 1 final. She's passionate about her work, which makes it interesting to sit through, but this certainly isn't an easy A.
Dr.Bauman is an amazing professor and you can tell she's passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures were interesting and she made them easy to follow. Attendance is not graded but she gives extra credit if you go. I recommend taking notes on lectures because she lets you make a cheat sheet for exams which really help.
Very bad and does not care about her studnets...
Honestly super easy class, the projects are fairly easy and she grades well. The extra credit is a card passed around after most classes, it's also your attendance. You get credit for writing a line of answer even if it's not correct, and she'll email you the right answer at no cost to your grade. Overall chill, oh and good slides to refer to.
This class was so interesting and fun. Professor really made the class engaging. There's 2 projects and 3 exams (final is not cumulative) that are pretty simple. She gives study problems that help with all the exams. Do them during class, plus notes, and you are good to go! Do this and you won't need to buy the textbook. Generous with extra credit.
Extremely class. She gives a lot of extra credit so if you show up to class you should pass all of your tests. There's 4 projects that are super easy.
Every lecture is engaging and the professor is funny and real. There's only 3 exams (none are cumulative) and two projects. Be sure to attend ALL her classes, the exams are heavily based on her lectures (she does recommend getting the textbook if you don't like showing up for class) and she's generous with extra credit. Loved taking her class.
One of the worst class and professors I've ever taken so far she just made my life even more hard than it already was. The only good thing is that she's nice and but that's it. Her lectures are extremely hard to follow cause of how fast she goes and the power points are so useless. And worse the exams are so hard even after studying the questions.
There's 3 analysis assignments that are fairly simple. But the 3rd was a long reading. idk if she'll keep that assignment but heads up in case. There were 3 exams. Her slides barely have info on it so attend class, pay attention, & take lots of notes. She does give you a study guide of what to expect. LOTS to remember for exams & very writing heavy
Honestly a 400level class, her study notes and slides are barely useful for the 3 tests that make up your entire grade, did i mention that this is a 100level class? theres no reason why a art class should be this hard. stay away or take it online
If you're going to take an arts credit for your Mason Core, take this class. Professor Bauman is extremely entertaining, funny, and articulate. Class is designed specifically for non-art students. Lecture slides are good; assignments are unbelievable easy and so are exams. She also hands out extra credit at the end of most classes.
easy A if you go to class, listen, take notes, study for the exams using the materials she gives you. key is to actually listen to what she's saying as the slides she has have no words- only pictures, so if u dont take notes during class its over for you.
This class was honestly the best, Dr. Bauman was very engaging with her lectures. There are extra credit that you can get throughout the class which also will be your attendance at the end of the semester, you also get more extra credit for each exam you do. The exams aren't hard at all if you are attending each class and taking notes.
The fact that it's a 101 class is insane on how difficult the class was. Her lectures and study guides did NOT helped me at all for her exams which are terribly LONG. Her and the TA are very nice and the 2 assignments were fun and easy. But overall I did not like the class, take it if you love art.
