Very easy! She gives multiple choice Tests and Quizzes!! Strongly recommend to any student who has trouble with math.
She probably one of the nicest teachers on campus. a stickler for the rules, but if your in a situation she will do anything to help you out (if its affecting your classwork).Explains everything clearly and answers all questions no matter what. The only way to fail this class is if you dont do the few online assignments or come to class on test day
Mrs. Blum is a great teacher for someone returning to math and needs a helping hand through their first college math course. Her lectures are organized and helpful. Her grades are plentiful and can be easy. Study and (as with all math courses) do the suggested problems and you will have no problem in this class.
I'm not so great at math but she explained everything crystal clear so I did well. Tests and quizes come directly from notes and reviews that she hands out so do them! She takes attendance but you need to go to class anyways to get the notes. Lots of little 'easy grades' to help boost overall grade. Definitely reccomend taking her.
Shes a descent lady but her class is not as eay as most people make it to be. Shell go over a topic and if you dont get it, then u have to go to her office. I learned more in my actual algebra and trig classed in high school than in her class.Shes very organized though and approachable although shell answer u "WHAT?!" at times.i recommend A. Jones!
Great teacher! She is very nice, and explains everything very well. Tests/ Quizzes are mostly multiple choice. She's awesome!!!!
Best teacher there is! I have trouble with math but she has multiple choice tests and quizes so just put 2 and 2 together! :)
she was a great math teacher. her test were fair and she gave study guides with the same type of problems on the test. You should definitely take her.
Professor Blum is super easy, she explains everything in full detail as if it your first time taking algebra. She stops to answer questions and will slow down for you. Her quizzes are easy and her tests are the exact replica of the test review. She is a must take!
Prof. Blum is a great professor. It's the class that is pointless. Everything taught should have been taught in primary school. Regardless, Professor Blum is very enthusiastic and helpful. Only take this class if you absolutely have to.
Mrs. Blum was the best math teacher I had had my whole educational carrer. She truly is helpful and cares for her students.
I wont lie its a hard class, and the tests and quizzes are tough if you dont understand what your doing. she offers a lot of extra credit and will help if you need it and she also has personal tutors to help. GO TO CLASS AND DO THE ONLINE LAB'S ON TIME.
Easy class, she is very clear and will help if needed. She gives extra credit if you go to at least 2 math tutoring sessions before each test. She gives 4 quizzes and only grades the top 3 quizzes. The test are not that hard and the only homework is to do the mymathlab stuff.
Mrs. Blum is a good teacher! She goes through sections pretty fast, like 2-3 in a class. She goes over problems step by step, and if you don't ask questions, she quickly moves along. If you took Algebra 2 in high school, it's EXACTLY the same thing, even easier. Do homework before test/quizzes and you'll pass just fine.
Ms. Blum was an amazing teacher. She taught so understandable that I felt like she was teaching us as if we were kids. Her test and quizzes are a little difficult but if you know what your doing you will be good.
Very good teacher. She teaches step by step. You get extra credit for attendance. I received an A- and I did the suggested home work problems. Go to class and do the suggested homework.
She cannot teach! I got out the class with an A by teaching myself and attending tutoring. She does not give many extra credits just random ones to dont go in the class expecting them. If I had to take her again I wouldnt! Do the assigned hmewrk and attend tutoring! She will not bumb you up to pass!
Great teacher. Make sure you at least try the homework. The homework is pretty much what will be on the quizzes and tests, so if you know what you are doing on the homework, then you will be fine on the tests/quizzes. Always be in class, she gives extra credit at the end of the semester if you didn't miss a certain number of classes!
Awesome teacher. Definitely take her. Doesn't have an attendance policy. If you miss less than 6 classes she gives 10 extra points on your final. Drops lowest quiz grade. Drops lowest test grade (including final exam). Homework is helpful. Basically the greatest teacher ever. Explains everything and makes it so easy. Couldn't be any better.
Very good teacher. Offers extra credit for attendance as well as for going to tutoring. She also this semester started offering online reviews that if you do yo get extra credit on quizzes and exams.
You can't use calculators. Quizzes are fifty points, tests 150 points, and the final exam was 300 points. Homework is only 10 POINTS! Do not take her unless you already understand math extremely well. She can't teach. Before each test/quiz you have to hold up your phone and show it to her so she knows it's off. Ridiculous.
This was my second time taking the class, but my first time was with another teacher. I found her to very thorough and fair. She is very nice and interested in whats going on in the students life. She is strict on due dates and makes no exceptions. She is willing to help and offers many extra credit opportunities.
Mrs. Blum is a good teacher. You get what you put into it. She will not give you a grade. That being said, she gives you ample opportunities to get extra credit. Take advantage of all of these. Seriously.
I've always hated math, but Blum made it very easy and interesting. She made sure everyone was on board, listening, and understanding. She always replies to emails and has flexible hours. Go to her for help, it's the only reason I ended with an A. I took her for two semesters.
She seemed organized and helpful. However, If you are kind of weak with math, be careful, as she expects you to already know algebra before taking the class.
I used to dread taking math, but Mrs. Blum really broadened my understanding math, and I love it now. There are plenty of opportunities to do well in her class. She gives reviews, online practice tests, which are extra credit opportunities, and suggested homework in the textbook. She is pretty helpful and willing to answer any question you have.
She was a good professor, however when I took quizzes, she would take points off of my work because it "wasn't the way she taught" even though I always got the correct answer. You'd think that it only matters you got it right, but it has to be right "her way." I'd choose another professor.
Due to the snow days our semester did not start until two or three weeks. Professor Blum thought she was behind, however she wasn't. She goes extremely fast and if the answers on test and quizzes aren't the way she taught them .. she takes points off. Plan to take tutoring along with her class. I wish I could switch professors.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR, if you have forgotten math from high school, you might want to gain knowledge quick. She teaches very fast,so attend every class. She expects you to know everything and gives smart remarks when you don't. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Just study for the tests. Don't stress over any of the quizzes there not worth anything really. All 6 quizzes is equal to only 15% so.. just average like a 60 on them and do the prep tests over and over before the tests and youll probably get an A.
I really do not like math. I took 102 in the fall and had to take this class for GF. Mrs. Blum teaches very well. All of the tests and quizzes come from the notes and homework. DO THE HOMEWORK. She has homework checks and the grades can help you in the end. Great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go so you don't get behind.
I am horrible at math, but she helped a lot.
She is really good at explaining things. I failed this class first semester, then when I took her class she really made it so much easier to learn. She does give a decent amount of work but its worth it because all the homework problems are the ones on the quiz and tests. Take her if you're bad at math!
The hw assignments can be up to 30 questions a week and the hw check only has 2 questions from that. The quizzes are hard and test are hard. She doesn't explain anything to you, you're supposed to just know. No calculators. She also isn't very flexible outside of her office hours.
Tough, no nonsense teacher, who does a wonderful job presenting the material. Taking detailed notes on the materialexamples in class, which are much clearer than the book, helps. She gives many options for extra credit, and is always ready to help if you need it. This class moves fast, so keeping up on the homeworkstudying regularly is a must.
You have to work really hard in this class in order to get a good grade. Fair grader. Study for all quizzes and tests and do the HW before it's due (it helps a lot). She's really chill and nice. Easy to follow when taking notes. I'm taking her again for Math 162 and I cannot wait to have her as a teacher again.
This was one of the best math courses I have taken in my entire life. Professor Blum makes everything clear in the notes she gives. She's the best math teacher I have ever had.
I loved professor Blum! I really came into this class with anxiety and she washed all of it away. Yes, we had a lot of homework, but it all contributed to a very easy grade in the end and helps you do better on your tests. She almost always throws in some extra credit to help you out. She is very helpful, and I would take her over and over again.
Starting the semester I thought this would be an easy class considering i took it in high school. That being said she would take points off for stuff that wasn't done the way she taught it. the test were almost nothing like we learned they were if not 50% harder than the stuff that she reviewed. I will have to retake pre-calc now just warning.
Very difficult to learn. She often contradicts herself. Im very bad at math already and everything that i've learned has been from me teaching myself. Her tests are incredibly more difficult than the problems that we work on and many of the problems that we do work on don't even show up on the tests. Definitely would not take again
Unless you are great at math, I would not recommend you take this class. She lectures way too much and way too fast. About 90% of my class failed this class with this exact teacher.
Do ALL hw in ALEKS. This is how you learn most of the material. If you can't teach yourself algebra take MATH102 or be prepared to go to tutoring. This class is not hard if you put in the effort and study for the tests. Attend all classes and you get 10 extra points on the final. She can be strict with grading tests so write down all work!!
She's very strict and can be very negative a lot of time by saying you won't pass. She's a good teacher, just hard mentally.
I LOVED PROFESSOR BLUM! She made my transition to college easier. She explains things very thoroughly and she gives partial credit even if you get the questions wrong. She also offers a lot of extra credit that can be easily done. You cant miss a class though. The curriculum is really fast, so its essential to be there or else youll miss content
Professor Blum was amazing! As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework (online and text), you will get an A. She offers a lot of extra credit too that helps you pass the test. Just dont have your phone out because she hates that. Sit in the front so shell know your name.
I am not very strong with math courses and I adjusted into this class very easily even though it had been years since I've taken a math class. She gives partial credit on quizzes and tests and is very thorough during her lectures. Do the homework and attend class regularly, should be a pretty easy pass.
Rude whenever you ask questions, doesn't explain concepts well, gives a lot of homework thats due in a short period of time even if she doesn't finish the chapter. Doesn't grade fairly and I honestly believe she doesn't care about her students. DO NOT TAKE HER. I withdrew because I had a c- in the middle of the semester and could not receive help
She made the concepts easy to understand and walked us through all problems. She was lenient on tests and was receptive to all questions. Highly recommend!
Pretty solid teacher. Explains everything step by step very thoroughly so that everyone can follow along easily. Is very strict and gives little leeway. Only graded on homework after tests are taken and I only had 3 tests. Overall, good but stern.
I've always struggled with math so I was pretty worried going into this class, but Ms. Blum quickly put my fears to rest. She gives great, clear instruction, and if you have a question she'll work with you until you understand it. She also gives extra credit opportunities for every test and the homework is easy and well spaced out.
Great! I felt good at math for the first time, she is tough but her class notes were really clear and the tests were always just like the notes. Class moves fast but she answered all of my questions during office hours and through email whenever I had them. There are extra credit opportunities for every test, and she gives partial credit.
She gives you a chance to get extra credit on the tests and helps break things down so that they're easy to understand. I'm not the best at math and this class is easy. If you do the classwork, homework, and practice tests you will get a good grade.
If you struggle with math, this is the teacher to take. She makes her own lecture sheets that you can print and fill in along with her. She also creates her own tests so make sure you understand the material because you will not be able to cheat in this class. That being said, she will go out of her way to help you and she is very patient.
I went to her lectures and they were nice and short. She was very lively and offered a lot of easy extra credit opportunities. Homework was online on Pearson and tests were easy if you do the practice tests.
My computer froze up on me during one test and she never let me re-take it. Other than that, she's not a bad teacher and just show up to class to pass.
Mrs Blum is good at explaining things, she is really strict about phones and is at times a tough grader. Only reason I got a C is because I suck at math, if if you're okay with math you'll be fine.
She explains things well, has guided notes, and gives some extra credit. Not the nicest or most approachable. Her tests are always easier than she says. I passed by the grace of God, because I cannot learn math online. If you like my math lab, this is the class for you.
Mrs. Blum was an excellent teacher, but you have to pay attention and show up to class to pass. She gives extra credit and study guides for every test, so as long as you do those you should pass. She explains all of the problems in depth so PAY ATTENTION.
Take her for math!! I am bad at math but she made every topic easy to understand. Her guided notes are key!! They help so much. Fair with grading, attendance is mandatory.
Ms. Blum was the all-time best math professor I've ever had. She has guided notes (I suggest printing them out) and they walk you step by step through every topic. She also provides extra credit opportunities for every test. She's always available whether it be by email or during office hours. I couldn't have asked for a better professor!
I took Professor Blum for both Precal 1 and 2 and she was the most amazing math teacher I have ever had. She gives good notes and if you have any questions at all she is more than happy to answer them without embarrassing you or making you feel stupid. She is very caring about her students and she will meet with you during her office hours to help.
Professor Blum was easy to understand and welcoming to class participation. If you skip class, you'll be lost the next class but not hard to catch up or get missed notes. Uses guided notes but takes unnecessary notes by hand. Offers extra credit everywhere and drops low grades. Do the homework/study guides and you'll do fine on tests.
Personally I'm horrible at math but this class was a great experience Expect to work hard weekly with online modules due at the end of the week!! show up to every class with your guided notes its the key to passing this course. Fav thing about Blum was that she remembered her students by name through class participation. Stay organized!!
I took Professor Blum for the compressed 6 week course, and as long as you attend each class and participate in the homework you'll do well. They print out all the notes and walk you through examples in class, and review material prior to the test.
I would recommend this teacher if you are fairly good at math. If you aren't so good at math, I would suggest that you look for another teacher. She moves through modules fast. She does give good notes and i would say to pay attention and don't miss any lectures because then you will be lost in the class. does provide half credit on exams.
At first, I thought she was going to be pretty severe, but she actually just gets to the point well. She doesn't allow phone use in class, but that's helpful for me as far as keeping focus. She gives notes and works through problems. She's a very good math teacher and made me really enjoy math after being terrible at it in high school.
Professor Blum comes off strict, but she is very nice. There are no electronics in class, except tablets for notes. The homework is hard to do bad on since you can submit answers multiple times until they are right. She gives lots of notice for tests and due dates. She gives good feedback on tests and is very organized and prepared.
She may come off as strict when you first get in the class, because she doesn't allow phones or other electronics out while she teaches. But that's only because she wants you to learn and pay attention. She gives out notes on the modules which helps out a ton.
May come off as strict with no phones, but she wants you to succeed and get your moneys worth out of the class. always available for questions&prints guided notes. loves to incorporate the class into her lectures & uses participation. Helps you keep up with dates, gives info for quizzes and study guides. I will definitely take her for business calc.
The best teacher and person! She's tough but only wants everyone to succeed. She's very helpful and will help to get the extra help if you're struggling. Just do the work on time and ask questions when you need to in order to get a good grade. She won't let you have your phone out, and I have mad respect for that.
Her lectures were very helpful with understanding the material. She explains things pretty well in class and we did a lot of practice problems. She also does also offer extra credit for tests. Make sure to go to class as much as you can because it is hard to get notes you missed.
Great professor for Business Calc. Would definitely recommend taking her.
She was good at being organized and was pretty stright forward. I didn't find her lectures particularly helpful, but I think some really liked her style. She is very fast paced, and if you haven't studied trigonometry before you should or else you might struggle in the class. Also, do extra practice because the homework doesn't prepare you well!
I don't agree with her cell phone policy, but otherwise I think she grades fairly and effectively teaches the material as long as you show up and study outside of class. I had to study a lot because I'm not very good at math. She provides a good review sheet for the final that's actually pretty similar to the real thing. You will need to study.
Very good at teaching statistics, sucked at math before this course but she does well explaining each topic. Coursework is average make sure you complete HW and pre-test for better understanding. Best to attend all classes. Allows calculators and gives formulas on tests.
I respect this professor. She is great at teaching calculus. She is a fair grader. I believe even if you get the incorrect answer, she gives you points for showing work. Yes she doesn't like phones, but it's only because she doesn't post lectures so she wants everyone's attention so she doesn't have to repeat herself. I highly recommend Mrs. Blum!
A good professor. She understands what she is teaching and teaches it amazingly. She doesn't want you to be on your phone during class. She wants you to pay attention and learn. I have never been good in math but I understand everything going on in this class. She gives a study guide before the test and they are similar to the test.
DO NOT MISS CLASS. You'll never catch up- especially in 163 (there was no course listing for that here). She talks fast and doesn't wait long enough on examples for you to actually try. She does care but if you miss a quiz or exam, no matter what the reason, you won't be able to make it up. It's not all on her though, the material is hard.
Prof Blum is pretty good of a professor she understands material and will re-explain if class appears confused. Allows for participation which makes for good engagement. She is able to explain things well but she is a bit fast paced during class wouldn't be the best time to ask questions for understanding.
Prof Blum is intelligent and on-task every class. BUT she moves extremely fast so you must pay attention. She doesn't provide online notes and isn't open to going back so attendance is mandatory. You must buy the class assigned calculater and bring that to class. She hates people being on their phones/having in earbuds so be aware.
She was a great professor, all you have to do is all the extra credit and homework. YOU HAVE TO STUDY. don't expect an A if you don't put in the work. She answers all questions but is a tough grader.
This professor uses Honorlock if you are outside of a Smarter Proctoring testing area. She makes it very difficult for students in rural areas to take their tests. She also requires certain calculators, which are only available online. Constantly required me to redo the Honorlock pretest trial run because one thing was amiss (no calculator).
The professor was straight forward with how the class went. Just be prepared for lots of homework and do not miss due dates. The class has a lot of information that you have to learn and the tests are pretty hard. As long as you watch the videos to learn the material and then do your homework for practice, you can get a good grade.
requires in person tests even tho its an online course. doesn't allow u to make them up for ANY reason. I almost failed bc I missed a test for having covid. weekly lectures, assignments, quizzes (& discussion boards & more assignments if you take w/ SI). 3 tests and a final which is part in person & online.
Just don't take her class.
Extremely organized/disciplined/structured class. Ungraded but mandatory attendance - if you miss a class that's not a review day before the test, you will be lost. Participation-based homework and timed online quizzes. Personally, quizzes were harder than the tests. Explains concepts clearly. Extra credit opportunities given for every test.
She manages to explain everything wonderfully. I didn't need outside resources like Youtube or anything. I loved her lecture format, she printed out the lecture notes AND used them. There were no guessing game of what would be on the test, everything was straightforward (which is helpful). She does not make it hard to succeed in her class.
i hate my life
Excellent professor! She goes slowly over the first few questions when introducing something new and will clarify further if needed. She also gives test reviews that mirror the actual test so there are no surprises when you take the exam.
She sucks as an online teacher, do not take 103m ONLINE! Her videos never go into depth and her tests are not comparable to her videos. I alr go to tutoring and study every day, but I asked her ONE question, and she answered with attitude and differed me to ALEKS or tutoring. Like don't take her unless your excellent at math. Shewon'thelpyou at ALL
This professor was not very nice in her emails and would answer you with an attitude. She is a very tough grader and does not give much help besides telling you to look at ALEKS. Her tests do not match the study guide. Super hard grader and did not really walk through and help show you what you were actually doing wrong on your test.
This Prof. is the worst. Her video lectures are not comparable to the test she gives. She does not help you at all. Is completely rude. And this is a waste of time. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE.
Prof. Blum is a math nerd with a god complex. Her rules, expectations and grading criteria are that of a 400 level class she wishes she taught. Save yourself the trouble, pick someone else.
I think she is a very god professor and explained the material in a clear way that made sense. I will say if you want to do well in this course you do have to study and put in some extra work. However, she is very good at answering questions and making sure her students are prepared for tests. I really suggests taking this professor.
Not a good match for someone who struggles with math. The negative reviews are all accurate.
I absolutely loved Professor Blum. Everything in STAT130M was done through guided notes and guided homework. This made it extremely easy to follow. Professor Blum is EXTREMELY strict. If you struggle with rules or time management, I would not recommend this class. She was perfect for me, but assess your learning style before you commit.
I would not recommend her to anyone. Her lecture videos do not match the level of detail or complexity found in the tests. Little engagement with her students unless it is through a T.A. Brutal examination of written answers, she does little to offer further guidance. If you struggle with math, consider looking elsewhere.
Do not take this class. This is the first "C" I have ever gotten in my entire academic career. No amount of studying or going over her material will save you.
Professor Blum's RMP score is driven down solely due to her being a math professor in a 100 level course. Nothing that is on any of her exams is a curve ball. She goes over every possible question in her notes and example problems, and as long as you follow along, you will do well. She answers questions very well, also.
My experience with this class was okay. She was fine at teaching, it's just that her tone of voice can be stern / down-putting at tines. Very serious about "following directions" and rules like no phones to the point an announcement in class would be made if violated. Workload in this class was fine; If you did the work on time, you should be fine.
Gives review problems for test, and format is completely different on test. Cant miss any assignments, gives no late credit. She is very annoying and thinks she is teaching at an ivy school, when she is teaching at ODU, lol.
Had an incidental involving an error on my smart proctoring, ended up being unable to finish exam. Refused to let me finish and gave me 0, saying I earned it. Highly don't recommend.
She has clear expectations from the first day of class. She doesn't allow phones, and if you can follow that, she is excellent. She has worksheets for you to work through the problems, so you have notes. She is very organized and goes over all HW/Quizzes and anything significant in the announcements, so you don't miss anything. Highly recommend.
