she had a great personality and great teaching style. very aproachable. there is alot of information but she outlines it very well. her lectures are easy and all inclusive. you can get away without the book but you may need to reference it when studying for the tests. the tests are hard (short answer/essay) but if you know it you will do well.
Tests based mostly on lecture. She explains everything very well. Must go to class to do well. Grade made of 4 exams, no paper. Tests are difficult. Study all notes from class.
Awsome teacher! She has a great personality, and knows her stuff. She's tough but you learn a lot. Just read your text and attend class.
Very awesome teacher, probably top 2 of all time I've had at any level. She will know everyone's name by the second class, makes sure you know what is going on, personable, and fair.
great teacher, but tough. I would recommend anyone to take her if they're up for a challenge. Two research paper, 2 exam, and 1 finale. Read before attending class and study, study, study! This professor's class is work.
This class is a joke. 2 papers and you don't have enough time to do a good job on either. Never enough time to finish exams, and her lectures are terrible. I really regret taking a class w/this prof and would highly reccomend you take it w.someone else.
a nice lady but not a great professor. let to many memeber of class use meaningless person stories that hold up the class. reading the book is more clear then lecture. Three test are what you grade is based on and 20 to 30 % of my class failed the test after the curve on each test.
She is nice, but on a powertrip, her tests are impossible to pass. Take Harrison, much better teacher. With Bohan, you will pay for the class and you have a 50% of chance of not passing. Amazingly egotistical teacher!
Horrible teacher, stay away if you can!
The worst decision I've made at this school. If there ever was a case for "leave the ego at the door" she is the model!!! Uses archaic transparencies and moves too fast. Never fall behind in lecture because you'll be lost. Still haven't found a connection between her lecture, the text and her exams. Avoid her unless you want to risk your GPA.
This teacher is one of the few that always has an opening...for a reason! No power point for lectures and the class is almost impossible to pass, with this professor only. I think she has the highest failing rate in the psychology department. For your own good, even if you have to postpone the class a semester, take it with someone else.
YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING! I am an 'A' student and can't believe how uninteresting this professor makes this class. Loves to hear herself talk and not sincere. Worst professor ever. Take anyone but not Bohon. Easy material but Bohon doesn't teach it thoroughly. Big let-down!
I had Dr. Bohon for both 145 and 101. The students who say her class is impossible to pass must be expecting an easy A. Yes, 101 requires a lot of work, but if you put in the time you should be just fine. 145 was much easier. I just read the chapter summaries and got an A-. For 101 study the notes and for 145 study the book!
This is a really tough class but Bohon was amazing. She really wants everyone to understand what's going on and she's willing to work with you. She's clear on what she wants & is always available to help; also has awesome TAs. Hard class but you'll know the stuff when you get out which is needed if you plan on being a psych major. Recommended
those who did pass her classes with a good grade...good for you! but i bet there are more students out there who have reieved grades that they did not want. yeah..the class is hard, but we draw the line somewhere. shes proud that her class gets a low average for exams. biggest mistake ive made since attending CSUS! DONT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her tests are way too hard. Designed to keep the grades low. Doesnt test that you know the material. She tests that your able to figure out what exactly shes asking for in her ridiculous test questions.
Explains material well but don't take her if you are a slow test taker. Her exams are lengthy and don't allow you to even pause and think of your answer.Mastery of the material is a must.Inconsistent when critiquing papers. She always finds something new to mark wrong each and every time, so watch out because there are 2 papers for this class.
Good teacher... Expressive, interesting, helpful, and clear! Exams are from the book, and many of the questions are straight from the study guide which is on reserve.
She made the class harder than it was. Test were extremely difficult and confusing!!! Don't Take Her!!!
If you can avoid her you should. Her test are insanly hard and very difficult to complete in the time given. The sad thing is she teaches really well, but her test dont match her lectures. DONT TAKE HER
This is a formatable class. Stats & Writting & Pych-8 background will help alot. Bohan is a nice person. I have the impression that she knows the definitions very well, but lacks the ability to comminicate the concept effectively to the class. Her tests mostly cannot be completed in the alotted time. In my class the Mean of test #2 was 53.
DO NOT TAKE BOHON FOR 101! Tests are long and can barely be finished in the allotted time. The lab pretty much is useless to the lecture unfortunately. No application of lab works towards lecture. Do not be on the bubble to pass because she will not help u out.
Very hard. She teaches in a way that doesn't relate to the lab class or the book. Her test are long and very hard. You have to do homework but she tells you the book is always wrong, so your left very confused. She really doesn't know how to teach the information to you cause she can't make up her mind on what the right answers are.
Bohon is a really sweet teacher, very knowledgeable and friendly if you have questions. 101 is such a hard class but she made us really understand the material, and her tests are not bad like others have mentioned. I cant imagine anyone doing poorly in her class, it was pretty easy (:
Dr. Bohon is very knowledgeable, but her class is poorly planned. She changes assignments last minute and is vague when giving assignment instructions. She also has a horrible temper, which does not manage well. Do not offer your honest opinion- even if she asks for it- unless you are prepared for her to freak out on you. This class is by far t
I would not recommend her. I was a straight A student and had trouble passing her class. Also, she made the information seem more difficult to understand than it really was. I would take someone else, if you can.
Very good teacher. She is tough, but very informative. She makes the topics interesting. Attendance is a necessity though. It's really tough to skate through if you don't attend lecture and take notes. I've also heard she is the best for 101. I didn't take her for that and now wish I had.
Shes hard but you learn alot. Cares abot her students & is available.Take her for 145 too AVOID HARRISON. Heard very dissappointing stories... Bohon is a good teacher so if you want to go to grad. school take her.
Dr. Bohon class is tough, but you learn a lot. You definitely earn your grade in her class.
horrible teacher. she tends to talk to you and treat you as if you are a child. overall, she is a know it all and will take extreame pleasure in proving you wrong
OMG I've never hated a professor so much before! She's terrible. The TA Joyia is worthless too. She gets pleasure from watching students do poorly. Makes you hate social psychology when I used to LOVE it. I HATE HER!!!
Dr. Bohon is a really good teacher. She asks students for examples in order to help students relate the concepts to their real life, which will help on tests. Her tests are tough, but if you study and know the material, not that bad.She is very prepared and organized. As others have said, you definitely earn your grade.
I don't know why she doesn't get better ratings on this site. She was a great teacher. She made it very interesting and her tests didn't seem that hard. Just study her lecture before class, read the book (though you prob could just read lecture) and you will ace the tests. She was actually one of my favorite psychology teachers.
She was extremely nice! Tests are not that bad, as long as you come to lectures & do the homework, everything is easy! Kept hearing this class was hard, but Dr. B made it very easy and would review until you understood the material. Take this class with her!
Dr. Bohon is very nice. She lectures from powerpoints, but does not provide them to class. I used my laptop which works out fine. Half the test is from the book. Worse psyc book, yet. Many definitions and theories are ambiguous. No study guide. Attendance and reading highly recommended. Took during summer, not overwhelming. Interesting subject.
Grade=3 exams(50 mult. choice questions each).Take DETAILED notes in addition to the powerpoints, attend all classes & READ THE BOOK!1/2 the exam comes from the book & things not mentioned in class. It also helps w/ understanding concepts. If you do all that & STUDY A LOT, you will do fine. Class isnt hard, there is just a lot to study. I LOVED HER!!!
boring. annoying. NOT FUN!
Took her for social psychology. She was too busy to grade any of our work during the semester. We went the entire semester with half of our stuff ungraded. Went into the final with a B, I know i tested well, but came out with a C. Never got my grades back, and I really don't believe she ever graded anything. Very frustrating. Wouldn't take her.
Seems nice on the outside but can take a real patronizing tone with her students. I found it strange that she'd encouraged discussion only to promptly cut off any one who presented a dissenting point of view. Tests are difficult but she grades on a curve so it evens out. The Class is definitely passable but not sure how much you'll learn.
An interesting class but the instructor is not very engaging, knowledgeable, or open to discussion.
Her lecture notes are not provided online, so attendance is important. When she lectures, she does a great job explaining the information and answering questions clearly. Fishbowl questions and Quick Writes are important, and help keep everyone on track. Make sure you read the book!!!! Evolutionary Psych, especially, is great and I recommend it!
Not much to say on her teaching style since it's just PSYC4, but she's interesting and a good lecturer. Really strict and a bit intimidating though. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are two minute quizzes almost every class day that make up 50% of your grade. Top 40% of the class grades get an A, the next 30% get a B, etc.
I think Dr. Bohon is an awesome professor. Her class is not easy, but if you work hard, she will work hard for you! I had an awesome experience in her class and would definitely recommend her in the future!
all you have to do is attend the class regularly, because she gives pop quizzes in every class section being the class meets only 1x/wk. no need to buy the book the questions are basic questions on psych careers. Just attend the class that's it.
legitimately the worse psyc professor I've ever had. this woman made it extremely difficult to come to class. I completely regret taking her. she looks nice at first glance, but she's condescending. she basically thinks she's better than everyone else. doesn't grade things in a timely manner. I ended with a B, but avoid at all costs!
I enjoyed the class, because the class is about psyc careers she had guest speakers for most of the programs. I found her nice and encourages questions at the end of class. I found the class overall useful, and going to class every week is important because of the pop quizzes they are about half of the final grade.
This class was unnecessary and pointless yet the professor made it seem like the information was crucial. The course content is dry enough and she did nothing to spice it up. I had A LOT of problems with her as a professor and would NEVER take a class with her again. She basically did an in class assignment "at random" every single day of class.
She's probably my least favorite professor, ever. I understand the class teaches us the basics but she would lecture us on brainless things as if we were kids, like how to properly enter and exit a building, classroom and elevator (i kid you not). She also snapped at a lot of the students, she had a major attitude. I'm not a fan.
I found her to be rude. Unfortunately I have her as an assigned advisor as well as a professor. I went to talk to her during office hours and she brushed me off like I was unimportant. She has a constantly "holier than thou" attitude and always talked down to us. Absolutely no help at all. I strongly recommend you find another professor.
Despite an engaging lecture style, the professor's grading criteria is nonsensical. The curve is not a true curve, and it's impossible to get more than a rough idea of your grade until the semester is over. She also is not above lying about the work of theorists she disagrees with to convince undergrads that they aren't worth looking into. Sad.
She is very arrogant. Not nice at all. The only class you should take with her is 4. Because it is generally an easy class. and you would have to be with her only 1 a week for 50 min. which is more than enough!
Unhelpful, arrogant, and plain rude. She does respond quickly to emails but is she very short and responds as if you should know everything and doesn't provide any background information. It it is a pointless lecture class and I think it should be changed to online.
i have taken 2 classes with her and got a C in both which is unlike all of my other psych classes. she is a very nice professor and willing to help. but due to how ridiculously hard her classes are i will not take one again.
Super nice professor, not rude at all! Willing to speak with her students and while she doesn't give study guides, tells students that if they read the chapter and make their own outline, they will do well on tests and it's worked for me! Lots of easy points, especially with fishbowl questions and quickwrites.
Dr. Bohon's lectures are interesting and she uses a lot of example; however her exam are TOUGH. BE READY TO READ THE BOOK. She curves all the exam scores which is good. She has some short writing assignments which helps to boost your grade if you follow the instructions. Does not post PowerPoints and expects students to take note by hand.
Tests come from a test bank, and wording of the questions are often unclear. she won't consider making study guides, practice tests or even proper review sessions, If it means more work for her. Lectures are pointless, they cover at most 10pgs of a 50pg chapter you need to know. 3 easy writing assignments, study the BOOK & you'll pass.
Grade comes partially from read and writes but majority from tests. Read the book! Really helpful if you apply yourself and if you ask for feedback. Cares about her students (knows us by name not just a face or ID number).
Dr. Bohon is an entertaining lecturer, and she knows the material well. I did what she recommended (read the book + attend lectures), but I still found her exams difficult. If you go to her office hours, she will help you. I recommend reading the book. I felt that attending the lectures was not necessary. 3 Reflect & Write Assignments.
The only negative thing I can say about her are her exams and how difficult they are. The majority of her exams are based on the textbook rather than her lecture, but I would say attendance is helpful if you don't understand a concept. Memorize the textbook, and you should be able to pass.
Dr. Bohon is a very nice lady and she really cares about her students. That being said, I dont think I have ever struggeled and worked as much for a class as this one. Her tests are from a test bank and they are VERY difficult, sometimes even to understand the test questions. Please make sure you are ready to work HARD, this is not an easy class!
Prepare yourself to read the chapters and relate it to lectures. Interesting topics, however, tests are VERY challenging. NOT a bitter student, but received an overall D after doing most quick write and getting 3 C and 2 D in class.
You gotta read the chapter & do the quizzes beforehand so when you come to class she will elaborate further in details. Exams were not really based on the textbook bc in her words, it requires you to critically think to get the right answer. received a C on the first exam, went to speak to her, she came off really rude as if I was stupid.
Exams: I studied the way Prof. B suggested and read ea. chapter twice (literally). I got a C every exam. Essays: She has the online component of the class grade our hand-typed essays. Tip: Don't use big words. Professor: She seems nice but carries a self-fulfilling prophecy about her students. We are only "average" but that's "okay".
The ad psych content was created by Bohon herself. I needed this for an extra upper division and I regret it. Questions on exams are incredibly specific, all 4 exams are mandatory, though not cumulative. If you don't go to class you won't have her lecture notes, which are not similar to the book. I would avoid this class if at all possible.
I have only interacted with her through email since this was a winter online class. The textbook was not needed, BUT you wouldn't be able to do EC through connect. But connect usually gives users a free two weeks so if you can power through them. 3 easy essays, discussions and exams. I did not regret taking her at all. I highly recommend. Easiest A
3 week Winter intercession. 1 paper 500 words each per week. 1 discussion posts and 2 responses each week. 1 exam per week all answers found on google. Easy A!
This class was a breeze, the material was fascinating so I found it pretty easy to do the reading. All of the answers are online to the quizzes, but going through the material was still a must. The essays are auto graded and I received 75% on each essay. I would suggest including much more detail in essays. Teacher was nice and responsive.
The extra credit was helpful but the essays were automated so it was hard to get an A on and if you didn't get at least a 3 on all of the elements required for the essay expect a grade lower than a C. The test at timed 1 minute per question. Kind of hard for a person who has a hard time comprehending.
I adore Prof Bohon! She is so brilliant and kind. Her lectures are so engaging and well thought out, she really helps you make connections to make the information stick. Her tests (3) are no joke but if you go to lecture and take good notes you'll be fine. Three (very) short writing assignments make up the last 1/4 of your grade. Highly recommend!
Interesting and amazing lectures. Friendly. Caveats: no technology, study guides and doesn't post slides. Essays graded by a system and not her. Exams seem like she's playing mind games. MUST READ TEXTBOOK because some exam questions refer to examples in book only. Someone you'd wanna form good connections with. Knowledge may not reflect exam grade
Professor Bohon is a good teacher. Yes, she is a tough grader and you really have to study for the exams. But I have probably learned the most out of her class then any other psychology class I have ever taken. She's very entertaining and fun.
Dr. B is amazing! She is a very good lecturer and always answers questions. Quizzes are on quizlet too so it is like a free thousand points. 3% extra credit report too. If you do all the work you can get a good grade in the class. Exams are tough (remember the studies and make your own examples). Make sure your essays are short and to the point.
Biggest tip- get your essays pre-automatically scored first!! You get 5 chances to get an idea of your score and improve whatever it asks you to. It's sort of a hidden button that you need to find. Remember to be straightforward and include a lot of definitions and elements in the essay. Also, the test has a lot of examples from the book so read it
Dr. Bohon has such a good vibe that you can't help but like her. She genuinely cares about her students understanding the material. The TA graded our papers, which I did not like, but otherwise Dr. Bohon has so much knowledge and made this class a breeze to learn in.
Professor Bohon is friendly, but success in this class requires your ability and willingness to teach yourself the material, as she models this class on the flipped classroom method. She does not offer extra credit, and wants you to "struggle through" the material yourself. The majority of the grade depends on two essays, so be prepared to write!
Had her for 145 and received a B so I took her again for 121 now I'm taking her again this summer for 130! She doesnt offer study guides so exams can be tough if you dont study (145). Success for 121 is majorly based on 2 papers which is passable if ur open to feedback. SPSS work is mostly independent so get a good group to work with and ur fine
Basically, you just have to read the book, do a few discussions, and take 3 exams. That's all. That said, the exams are not easy. On our first exam the class average was 58%, but she curves. There was a 3.5 page extra credit paper that you could write as well.
This was a great class to take over the summer. You have to keep up with the reading and chapter quizzes, but it's very manageable and I got an A without any stress. We had 3 exams and 4 discussions.
I had confusion about the last class assignmnt; I received 3 points out of 4 available, as a result lost 1.6% of my total class grade. This led to a 1 letter grade drop in the class, down to an 89.97% Bohon wouldnt allow me to leave a comment on message board to make up the 1 point. She was inflexible, didnt care. Not student centric class
Might as well not even have a professor for this class. Used the textbook only, she uses autograde and doesn't even read your essays, there are no lectures and assignments have no description or title. Must look in the syllabus for all assignment descriptions and due dates. Auto grade would tell you one grade, then the final grade would be 15% less
Taken Winter Intercession 2.5 week section. It was fairly straightforward. You would use Revel and read (4-5) chapters and embedded in each Chapter Sections were quizzes and Journal Prompts that needed to be done. A part from that you also had to submit three auto graded essays which were difficult to get a good grade on. Lastly, 3 exams.
I took her asynchronous online course, and she uses an auto-grader for her essays through revel and it is the most annoying thing. Even if you write everything it asks for in the rubric you still can't get a high score. Other than that the class is interesting and the professor seems kind!
I don't know why Professor Bohon has so many poor ratings. She is on it and is responsive to any questions. She sends out weekly reminders with pointers and instructions. I found her Revel essays to be very easy and straightforward as long as you read the rubric. Seriously, read the rubric and you will do very well on the papers.
If you can avoid this class do so. Her exams are half your grade, and they are ridiculously difficult. She gives you very little time to complete the exam and then she expects you to know the exact word the authors used in the text.
Professor Bohon does not accept any late discussions and gives half credit for any late exams and quizzes. She also requires assignments to be turned in at 11:00pm instead of 11:59. If you take her make sure you stay on tip of assignments and pay attention to the time.
Communicative, responsive, & helpful! Bit of a tough grader on discussions. Essays graded by AI; I found them easy (100% each time) but I know others found them challenging. My tip is to start early, offer lots of examples, and read the prompt fully. The relaxed class pace makes it easy to work ahead. Great class to take over summer!
Take her! Her tests are difficult, but as long as you read the book and attend lectures, you will do good. STUDY! The Revel essays are easy, just be straight forward. She is very nice and go to her OH if you have any questions. You will learn lots of interesting things in this course. Also, go in depth on discussions for full points :)
As a note taker that is very detailed oriented with effective notes. The exams don't allow sufficient time to look at the notes taken in class. Her grading is a big chunk on the exams and writing portion.
Professor uses Revel and it has quizzes and Essays that are auto-graded but even if you follow the rubric the auto-grader will not give good grades for the Essays. Exams are very difficult and you get 1 minute per question. Be careful using grammar correcting such as Microsoft Word or Grammarly she uses Chat gpt Zero and it will flag it as Ai.
Dr. Bohon is an excellent professor! We had four non-cumulative exams, each with a time limit of one minute per question. The paper is also heavily weighed, so you need to invest much effort into writing it. The course was very interesting, and I learned a lot about personality. Overall, putting in effort is essential to achieving a good grade.
Doesn't post lectures, must attend class & read txtbook to pass. Old school & problematic. No electronics in class. Exams hard & majority of grade. No study guide. This class did not use nuance or address problems of cited studies. Eugenics excused as evolutionary psychology. Use critical thinking if you take this class, question what you learn.
The class was primarily chapter/video quizzes each week done through Pearson/Revel, with some discussion boards and 4 exams + 1 cumulative final. I found it to not be too difficult because of how self-paced most of the work was, though the Canvas exams were timed and a little more stressful. But overall, not a bad class. Just make sure to study.
Dr. Bohon was an alright professor, some of her grading criteria was unclear at times. We had weekly reading assignments through revel which were not too bad. There is one paper that is heavily weighted. There are five tests total and make sure not to miss those, they are only open for one day which is slightly annoying. Quizlet is your best friend
