She was not helpful at all. The class was full of business students, but she insisted that we all be philosophers. She doesn't ake it clear what she wants, and it very harsh in grading. You really have to work your butt off to get a fairly decent grade
No Comments
We are Business Students not PHILOSOPHERS....She needs to compensate for that not us for her...
evil woman....if i had wanted to take a philosophy class, i would have taken one...she needs to remember, that we are not grad students and she needs to cut down on the cafeine
definitely not a business class
If you are into philosophy and its your life...this is the class for you. She does not realize that everyone thinks like her, we do not have the same ideas and interpretations. HARSH GRADER! There is no A for effort. Its do what I expect or die.
She is the toughest grader ever. She needs to be more leanient. Students have classes other than hers and she needs to realize that. I cant go to college and spend all of my time working on one class.
she's a tough teacher who grades even tougher. she doesn't give the kids a break especially considering we don't know philosophy as much as she does. but she expects us to anyway.
She's flacky, can never stay still for a moment. If you don't think on her "level" than forget it, you'll only get a B. You'll never get a definite/concrete letter grade. It's always this B-/C+ deal...come on??? This isn't elementary
She gives way to much work and takes philosophy way to serious!! The only reason people stay in the class is because we need it to graduate and no one else teaches it!
She's so great. She makes the class easy and fun. I can't believe people actually don't like her!

They need to take the "business" part out of the title of the course and just call it Ethics. Nothing about business was ever discussed. The information is really boring but with the amount of coffee she must drink a day, she almost makes it in
She's a fun teacher and it's very easy to pass her class if you make some effort to read the class notes that have the answers to all the quizes. The reading can be a pain from time to time, but overall I think she's a great teacher.
extremely demanding for 100 level just because she worked very hard to get a doctorate thinks the world owes her something immature abdicates using halucinagenics at least once in ones life and tries to make everyone a vegetarian she needs a little meat i
Very enjoyable class. She has a positive attitude & keeps the material interesting at all times. Papers are a little tough, but she is very helpful and allows for drafts. People who have complaints are ignorant to what a good teacher is.
she is a biased teacher! take her class only if you don't want to get an A or B+
Dropped after 1st day. Shes on a power trip. Quizzes every class my @ss. Dont bother
Very helpful and helps students understand the material. Has a genuine interest in the students and their success. The tests are a little tough, but achieving a B+/A- on them should not be easy with the proper amount of review of class notes. Cute too!
Prof. Cassidy may seem easy at first but her difficult essay exams and ridiculous term paper will come as a surprise. This class has almost nothing to do with business and is all about philosophy. She has a VERY harsh grading policy and you will suffer.
Don’t be fooled, it is entirely possible to get an A in her class. She’s a great teacher and a wonderful person!
too many essays, grades to hard, and is way sarcastic for a learning environment. papers due every weeks
You will do more work in this class then any other. She is good at explaining the material so you understand it. If you do all the work You can get a B+ A-, however she is a hypocrite and has a holier-than-thou attitude that gets obnoxious
Great class, pissy attitude. Tough grader, make sure you're a great essay writer!
Uses stories, examples, and funny drawings to get her point across. Explains long complicated philosophy theories by putting them into current terms/ideas. Serious about rules though (i.e. deadlines, plagarism, papers)
Extremely immature can not judge the coursework required for a 3 crdit class sadistic in her demands not funny maybe funny looking please complain to the faculty we have to get her out of here!!!
UGH one of the worst at Ramapo. I had her not long after she started there. VERY immature! And thinks everyone is BELOW HER. Her grading policy blows, tests are awful. Save yourself and dont take her.
Def on a power trip. But she is a pretty cool teacher, she gives you the opportunity to argue with her, which I always did. Her 8-10pg paper is extremely stupid and useless. The rest of the class is fun and actually gets you to think about morality.
MY GOD. This woman is not only immature, but is also mean. She favors the males in the class, talks about her dog, draws pictures on the board and worst of all, referes to herself in third person by her last name. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!
Very interesting, really wakes you up in the morning. Lots of energy and is able to relate everything to the real world very well. Definately take her compared to the other professors offering philosophy 101
Lisa is very animated and knows her stuff. There's no midterm but her 2 paper topics are VERY hard & she grades them even harder. Her quirks like speaking in 3rd person & asking yeh? after every sentence may get annoying but give her character.Oh...she makes u pay $10 to buy a buffalo for the hungry?
she a total bit*h only thinks about herself, her paper is useless and she grades very hard on the presentation and on the tests....save yourself and don't take her!
This professor could possibly be one of the worst things to happen to Ramapo College. Shes totally full of herself, doesnt take an interest in any of her students unless they parrot her views and suck up in class. Not only is she stuck-up, shes an awful creative thinker, and a useless philo. teacher
She's OK. Demands A LOT of work. Sometimes she thinks Ramapo is the Ivy League. Not really much of a sense of humor either. She reminds of the red haired girl from American Pie.
Interesting
Don't take her if you don't have to. She is so stuck up and so stuck on herself. She is not helpful at all. Her tests are ridiculous. I am going for my second bachelor's and am older than her but she would try to talk down to me. Give me a break. Not helpful at all! Don't waste your time!
She needs a lot of growing up to do. Very immature and treats students like 1st graders. she expects a lot of work and is on a power trip. 20 quizes, 10 page paper,a presentation, reading every class plus the 4 books, give me a break.
She is not an easy professor and there is a lot of work but she goes over everything you need to know in class. She welcomes arguments against her, as long as you have reasons. Her classes are very interesting and she ties the material to the real world. A's are possible in her class.
She does not give a lot of work, but is a very demanding grader. Interesting class!
give me a break. she's crazy- assigns readings like crazy and thinks her class is the best thing at ramapo. avoid this if you can.
There's a lot of hype about Lisa, it seems you either love her or hate her. I thought she was really funny and supportive of anyone who spoke their mind. Her use of stick figures was very amusing. One warning: She is a harsh grader, so bring your A game.
one sentence says it all: worst professor for the class ever. loved philosophy before this class and now, I can't stand anything considered philosophical. thanks to her. stay as far away as possible.
Awsome professor....def. entertaining and makes class interesting....tough grader when it comes to the papers though but other than that i def. recomend taking her class.
easy class, alot of reading but you don't really have to do it just look over the notes she hands out before class. quiz every day but so easy. if you want a B take her every one gets the same grade for everything
She's pretty interesting and funny but gives a lot of reading, test each class but easy, right from class notes, test are easy but she's a hard grader.the only bad thing is that you have midterm final 2 papers and a class project on top of a daily 1 question quiz. Class has about nothing to do w/ business & she allows a 3x5 cheat sheet for tests!
ok let's get this out of the way. Yes she's hot. But if you take her for that reason your going to hate her. she will not give out A's. "A's mean excellence and excellence is unabtainable" She gets a lot of her teaching style from her mother (a grade school teacher) expect her to talk down to you like you were 5. I'm sure there is a better prof.
Great teacher. Very nice, and easy to approach her with questions. I had her class two years ago and we still talk in the hallway whenever we meet up. Very willing to help you with your one paper she assigns.

Extremely liberal and one-sided. DID NOT LEARN A THING RELATED TO BUSINESS! She is a very condescending person-- thinks she knows all, even though she has never been in the Real World-- went through to get her PhD without actually working. Has a horrible attitude, doesn't give a lot of clarity on the topics covered. My advice--DO NOT TAKE HER !!
If she notices you are above the rest of the class she will challenge you and will also tell someone when they're wrong...its actually rather amusing if they annoy her...she'd just say "no" and call on the next person...also discuses philosophy the way it should be by asking student opinions as in an open forum. One of my favorite Philo Profs......
she is a terrible teacher. she acts like she knows all and you know nothing. the worst teacher i ever had in my 3 years here. if you need to take this class, take it somewhere else or transfer
"This class was worse than a Greek Tragedy!"

Whoever says you can't get an A in her class obviously does not put great effort to his/her studies. I received an A- in this class. She is hard but she makes you thinks, which is what higher education is supposed to do. If you are in college to expect to get through it the easy route then you should re-think of where you really need to be.
If you actually do the readings (easy, brief), you will definetely pass the quizes. Two five page papers are required - but worry not - IF you're a good writer and justify your positions, she WILL give you an A. If you're not a good writer or don't know how to write a philo paper, she'll help. Easy final. She is by no means an impossible A.
Wonderful professor. She is very exited about her class and makes it interesting and exiting for students. Makes you think. Readings are interesting and won't overwhelm you. Do the readings, participate in class discussions and you will get a good grade. Prof. Cassidy respects every student's opinion on a discussion matter. Highly recommend!!!
Really cool professor. Loves what she is teaching and makes it really interesting. Good class, I would def. recommend her.
She seems cool at first..... but this is an extremely writing intensive course. I wrote more in this class than in English comp. Quizzes everyday. Very HARD grader on papers. Be warned future Philosophers.
I rate this course as easy because we were able to do up to ten points of extra credit. On top of that, she is not an impossible grader, but she WILL hand out poor grades to students who write poorly. The class is very structured and she is available for extra help, so if a student wants to improve his grade/writing, it is very easy to do so.
It's important to understand going in that this class is ENTIRELY group orientated. She employs the use of "self-teaching" so essentially you and your assigned group teach the class, she does not lecture. Two major group assignments. If you don't like being stuck with the work (which I was) do not take her. Fairly reasonable with grading.
I'm an A student, especially with writing, and I had to work hard for a B. Unfair, hard grader. She is nice and funny, but it's misleading. On the bright side, she tells cute jokes and is pretty funny. I would not take her ever again, though. Screwed my GPA.
She is an excellent and funny teacher. She is helpful and will proofread papers ahead of time. However she is a tough grader, fulfilling requirements isn't enough, you have to go above and beyond to get an A. Its an interesting course and i would recommend it.
Interesting, Funny Professor. The Course is already interesting, but she makes it fun.. ALOT of writting work (if youre a bad writter you will get a low grade) The only down side is the group work.. I dont like my grade being based off other people. Two huge group projects- If your a commuter beware! I had a rough time with the group work..
Students teach the class, almost all group work. I found this to be an effective method. Bit of a tough grader but lots of extra credit. Cassidy can be unclear at times but she can argue for both sides and madiates very thought provoking discussions. Quizes and classwork is easy, over all an easy class if you do the extra credit.
Loved her. Fun, creative, and encourages class discussion. Lisa is demanding, but it is definitely possible to get an "A". The key is to actually read and have a well-formed opinion. She will help students with their papers, and she will discuss with the student where they need to step it up. Plus, her stick figures rule.
Difficult to please w/writing, and I get A's on my writing ALWAYS. Very interesting classes with much participation and terrific discussions. Too limiting in amount of room one has to develop a thesis. Many short papers, quizzes. LOVE HER!
Great professor. Tough grader but not impossible to get an A. Makes the class extremely interesting and is always in a good mood which rubs off at 945 in the morning. Has fun stories and drawings. Very fond...id def recommend her as long as youre willing to work.
Very peppy in the morning. She is a tough grader but fair. You will fail if you dont bring your books to class and if you dont participate in the discussions. Don't wait till the last minute to start your research paper. Writing ethically is hard but she offers office hours for help. I got an A....but I worked for it.
have had her twice and LOVE her. Full of pep, makes coming to class a pleasure. BRING YOUR TEXT! Can't take quizzes without it. Tough on writing, gives very little room to state a thesis and defend it, but if you do the extra credit, you can bump your grade a whole point. Class participation essential. Wish there were more like her around.
She is very entertaining, and you really learn. She cares about students. Best teacher i ever had. Needless to say extremely hard. Must be willing to work, and shes a harsh grader. If you have time to work take her class.
ugh shes terrible RUN!!!!
A smart woman with a good sense of humor; you can tell she is intrigued by the subject she teaches. Just don't come in late to class!
Her demands are ridiculous. I have a near 4.0 GPA, please trust my opinion on work loads. This woman was absurd. Grades writing in a ridiculous way, and gives no structural freedom to writing assignments. Not a mean person by any means, but not a good professor. I honestly did not learn anything, and this class ruined 5 semesters of straight As.
Terrible! I hated this teacher, and I'm an excellent student and was interested in the class prior to taking it. She's flighty, ridiculous, doesn't teach, gives way too much work, holds you til the last minute, has an attitude...the list goes on. Avoid her.
She is probably my favorite professors i have had thus far. She is a hard professor, but she teaches very well. Her expectations are clear and if you get extra help and do every single assignment you are sure to get an A. I honestly tried to get out of the class the first week because i thought i was sure to fail, but I ended up getting an A!
Pretty easy class, learned a good deal, she could given less assignments and the group work gets a little old after a while.
Do not like her at all. She is not helpful outside of class. If she does not like you, then you have barely any shot of doing well. She loves group work. She may tell you she likes something you do, but your grade will not reflect it.
Had her for summer class online. Horrible teacher. Course work is ridiculous, if she doesn't agree with your opinion youre simply wrong. Like others said,if she doesn't like you will suffer for it. Going into healthcare, I thought I would enjoy this class but ended up hating it within the first week. Things get repetitive. Avoid if you can.
Had cassidy for Critical Thinking and Philosophy of Beauty.so much spunk and effective professor.expected to have done the readings which are interesting & she goes over them in class.Alot of components to yours grade.SO MUCH HELP:meets with you before tests, helps with papers, and overall cares about her students.take her!even for a gened!
Non philosophy majors beware. If she doesn't like your major she will find ways to decrease your grade. I'm a science major and had a perfect score in the first half of the semester, but once she heard I was a science major she started nitpicking my work until I had a D at the end of the class. The work quality didn't change, she did.
Ok so it's not an easy A; But she makes the class so interesting you will definitely learn a lot. Half of the semester your grade is based on homework assignments and the other half is based on test which if you are paying attention and doing the readings, you'll do just fine. In my opinion I'd rather have an interesting professor and do more HW
Great teacher, fair, respectful, not a pushover, really makes you think. Great class for real life when you graduate!
The worst professor I have had yet. I had the highest average at the beginning and by the end I had dropped to a D. This was a common experience with my classmates. We were not Philosophy minors and she held that against us. This was after the drop period ended. She graded our writing so harshly that by the end we were all barely passing.
She is tough with her grading. Expects you to write your best always but offers her help anytime. I took this class online in the summer. weekly online discussions. learned a lot and she improved my writing skills like no one has ever had. she gets to know her students even in an online class
Terrible teacher who is disrespectful and unfair to her students. She does not follow her own syllabus and will not help you outside the class, even if you go to office hours. Does not take responsibility on anything. Worse professor in Philosophy department.
I love her so much. Her grading is hard on papers but if you come in to her office hours she will help so much. Honestly was a tough class, with a lot of reading. But she's an amazing person and helps so much with papers. Offers extra credit too
Essays are graded harshly, but she is willing to help and welcomes students to come to office hours. I have had three classes with her and each time she has offered 100 points of extra credit assignments, so if you get a bad grade it is easy to make it up.
I was scared going in, but this was honestly my favorite class all semester. I learned a lot, discussions were fun, and the class itself wasn't too hard. The only things that were pretty hard were the papers bc she grades those pretty tough, but like the comments below, if you go to her office hours (GO..) you should be fine. she's there to help u
You have quizzes every class based on the readings assigned for homework. There is a fair amount of reading, and each class you will teach about the reading with your group. You also have blog posts. She takes CEC very seriously. She is a very intense grader with papers because writing philosophy is unlike the writing style of your other courses.
I thought the tests were easy and the discussions were nice. She had us do group style teaching to go over reading, and that's cool. When it comes to papers though. She told me that I did not know how to write a paper. She did not help at all and was mean about it. I had never gotten below a C on a paper before this class. I wouldn't take her again
She is a funny woman, great lecturer. Tough tough tough paper grader, she expects you to be a philosopher. The exams are easy, quizzes are easy, and offers extra credit. Not an easy A at all, but definitely a fun class. Group project and research paper was pretty annoying, but you get through it. its a higher level class!
She is unclear with her grading criteria using the word, "spicy" to determine if your thesis is well put together. If she doesn't agree with your paper she will not give you a good a grade. She doesn't take anything late and is very strict on going to office hours for every essay. There were no tests but the readings were extensive.
Never have taken a philosophy class before but LOVED her class. Assigns reading every week, not too much, talk about it in class. Papers are tough but she is there to help if you go to her office hours. Overall class wasn't too hard. Loved her as a professor. Thinking about a philosophy minor because of her!
Definitely an easy class, but definitely not an easy A. I really worked for the grade I got, but I generally like her. You have to go to class though, especially if you don't understand the material. She does want you to succeed though and take advantage of her office hours cause she's the most helpful then.
Good Teacher, but mostly makes you teach yourself, which i enjoyed. 4 tests easy quiz each week and gives a lot of extra credit.
She's tough if you're a science person and you mostly only write science papers. Her grading especially of essays is close to impossible. More than once she gave an essay and no one received an A. She's really really nice and always helpful at office hours but I would not take her again unless I absolutely had to. Be prepared to work HARD for an A.
Lisa Cassidy was by far one of the biggest influences in my life this spring semester 2016. Granted I love philosophy but her critical thinking course is amazing if your looking to expand your mind. Theres work to do for her in class all through out the semester not many test but a few papers. I would take her again.
She could get a little rude sometimes and she does use "spicy" all the time to describe what a thesis or topic should be which is confusing. She grades papers really really hard
This class definitely is one of my favorites! The assignments are small and sometimes time consuming but really easy. A LOT of extra credit opportunities! Raw point scale so its easy to get an A. She is a great professor, super funny. Tough essay grader but if you go to office hours she likes that. Definitely recommend.
I'm a Bio major that has to take a lot of science classes, but I chose to opt out of a lot of them for her classes, which shows she's worth it. She does give a good amount of papers, but if you go to her office hours, she proof reads them an unlimited amount of times. Her exams and quizzes are easy, so long as you take minimal notes. Show you care.
The class and material itself was interesting, but she is a very harsh grader. She expects you to know how to write a philosophical paper on your first try (for this paper the highest grade was a B-). She is unclear and gives a lot of papers. Not to mention you cannot read her small amount of feedback because it is illegible. Not worth it.
Bioethics class I took in the summer. Summer classes can be tough since it is a 4 week class but this kind of hard was on another level. Weekly long readings, quizzes, discussion forums, papers, videos to watch. ALSO a group project, research paper, and reading a novel! All in 4 weeks! I work and have a life. Amount of work is ridiculous. AVOID!!!
Cassidy is an awesome professor that leaves the ball in your court. Everything and I mean everything is written out on the syllabus so no excuses. Cassidy even reminds her students when assignments are due. You have to try to get a good grade and you have to try and fail. The choice really is up to you. There is a decent amount of work.
You always work in a group, makes things easier. Always need the textbook on you (1), can't take quizzes without it. Really interesting stuff, teaches like no one else I've had. A few papers & homework. Discussion heavy. You have to work for your grade but it's an easy A if you do. No presentations or projects. Taking her again next semester.
She's a very quirky woman which makes classes interesting. You need to do the readings, and I found many of them hard. But she lets you work in groups the whole time which makes it easier on you if you didn't understand one of the readings. The online forums/videos were also really interesting.
Wonderful professor. I graduated a few years back and had the urge to give her a solid review. I use things I learned from her classes on a daily basis. She will challenge you. She is hilarious in the best of the ways. Do the readings and embrace her feedback. You will improve as a writer and you will develop more sound arguments.
I really enjoyed going to class- we just had a lot of interesting discussion on really cool things! She was pretty funny and interesting, I did enjoy the class. But, she gives A LOT of work outside of the class. She is an easy grader on little assignments, but she is a REALLY harsh grader for essays. She does grades your drafts though.
If you are taking this class in the summer just dont. She seems like a great professor, very knowledgeable and fun. But the assigned work was absurd. I understand the idea behind taking online classes and the workload but this was crazy especially when you have a LIFE TOO. Sometimes I think professors forget we have other things going on
Posts additional required coursework as a "just for fun" assignment on top of the other extensive assignments that are due. Even if you really take the time and try your absolute best (handing in completed and well-thought out assignments/papers on time) it seems like it's never good enough for her, even if you follow rubric guidelines.
bioethics spring 2020: Holy moly this class was difficult. There was ONE philosophy major in my class and thank goodness he was in my group. She puts everyone in groups and that's your group for the semester. Frequent quizzes. 2 extremely difficult papers. Homework is to read A LOT of philosophy material. On the bright side she is funny and bubbly.
Cassidy is an amazing teacher who inspired me to get a philosophy minor. She's kind and hardworking. Cassidy really knows how to engage students in conversation and approach uncomfortable subjects objectively. I really loved how she forces students to be critical thinkers. She's a tough grader but provides excellent feedback. You'll learn a lot!
She is a really tough grader and oftentimes her feedback isn't that helpful. Shouldn't be teaching freshman.
Professor Cassidy is hands down one of my least favorite professors. I had her for PHIL321 and I hated the class. She gives out so much homework and is a very strict grader. Its a Gen Ed class and Ive never had so much homework in my life. She takes this class way too seriously. But besides that, shes a nice ish person.
In class, she is very nice and says she will do this and that to be fair but outside of the class is when everything changes. The things that she said she will do she doesn't. Keep your own grade log and check Canvas frequently because she will change your grade out of nowehere.
The readings were always very interesting and the class discussions were the best part of class. Get prepared to spend a lot of time editing your papers. She's a tough grader but you WILL become a better writer! She truly cares about the topics she teaches and it makes the class a lot better!
Avoid if you can. Too hard for class level/gen ed. Wants a weird, specific formatting for essays and the thesis that isn't standard for college level writing. Too much writing, too. An essay due every week on top of 2 forums that are also the length of an essay. She will take points off your essay without leaving ANY reason why. Will not give 100.
Awful. Too harsh of grader for an elective. Never in my education career have I had a teacher have an issue with my essays. Seems like she doesn't want you to succeed and will find something wrong just to take off points. I normally gets A's on my papers. Easily worst prof I've had. Avoid her at all costs if you can.
Professor started off so nice but at the end was terrible. Do not ask her about your grades because she takes that as being disrespectful! Additionally she was never clear in her emails when asking for help, rather made you more confused than you already were. Overall she starts off sweet but then gets rude very fast.
Interesting class, but can be challenging. Lots of writing assignments, with specific formatting. Textbook is a must-have. Engage in discussions to do well. Unstuck AI proved helpful for study prep.
Lisa Cassidy is easily the worst professor I've had at Ramapo College. She accuses students of heavily of AI usage, assigns a lot of readings and has a paper due every other week. Be warned before taking this class
